Great professor! He's hillarious and very knowledgeable, but his tests are difficult. He gave a lot of out-of-class group assignments, but I learned a lot and worked hard. Not an easy A.
Great teacher! Very, very funny. His class is never boring! Tests were pretty hard, but he grades on a curve. Would definately recommed his classes to anyone.
Hilarious! The best teacher I've had...
An amazing teacher that's lots of fun. Take one of his classes if you can! If you study your notes, you should be okay on the tests, but they are a bit tough.
He was very funny. he didnt care if you came to the class. The test were difficult, i would say. Nevertheless he is a good teacher
This is an amazing class. Students are required to teach a class, and write a research paper. Tests are EASY and the class is a great learning experience. Definately recommend class and Horvat.
He is a great professor! He's really entertaining and layed back. I look forward to going to class. I wish he taught every single subject!
he is a very intersting person take this class just to laugh!
Funny teacher, makes leaning fun. He does not require a book or attendance but you will not want to skip his lectures. He post slides online so you will not have to attend.
He uses profanity often, but other than that, he was a great teacher. I thought his tests were easy, he grades them out of the top score in the class. Very laid back, really funny.
best professor i've had so far. he is profane, hilarious, and helpful. he made this subject extremely interesting.
This guy is awesome... He is way funny and extremely smart. He has been teaching forever and really has the art perfected. All the previous comments about profanity are pretty funny, I don't know why people get so worked up about a professor who is comfortable enough to be himself around his students. Great lectures, informative and funny
super easy and fun teacher. he uses stories that are easy to remember and are very helpful on the tests. all his tests are graded on the curve and there is no homework in this class. there is no book required either. take him if you need psychology!
One of the best professors I had this semester. Even at 7:30 a.m. he was upbeat, funny, and interesting. His lectures are easy to understand and he has a great delivery to make you remember the information. A few of the test questions are from the book but mostly they come off his power points. His passion for psych makes this a great class.
All lecture, no book required. Nothing posted online so attendance is mandatory being all 5 tests are from his lectures. No homework, but must study. Profanity, but SO funny that it makes you WANT to go to class and listen to him and his stories applicable to the material.
Fantastic teacher, easily my favorite this semester. He makes the material interesting and relevant, and he feels that whether you show up or not is your choice. Im not sure why people are complaining about the swearing, or that the exams are so hard, its not bad at all if you study. And all the swear words he uses are in the bible! lol
Horvat is a way good teacher. His power points are good study guides. If you skim through the subjects in the book that you talk about in class, you should do fine. He is so damn funny, and he has a way with making you remember the material. I plan on taking another class from him.
Horvat is an awesome teacher, he's funny, he swears a lot and knows his stuff. He gives no homework and does 4 tests a semester. I went in knowing a little bit about psychology and came out knowing a whole lot more than when I went in to it. He's willing to help you and explain things after class if need be and provides lots of extra credit.
He is so funny. I looked forward to his lectures. The tests are straight forward, but its easy to mix things up. Overall I thought psychology was a tough course, but Horvat made it bearable
He's way funny and a nice guy, but I really didn't learn that much in his class. He seemed to get off topic a lot, and his tests are way hard. Overall he was just OK, not great.
I don't remember the class number but I took Abnormal Psych from him and he is AWESOME. He's Hilarious! And very easy to learn from. His tests aren't too tricky either and he does want you to succeed. Very low stress level class. :D
Great guy, fun class but very HARD. Tests are unexpectedly difficult. A little of extra credit is offered, but that is time super consuming work for only 5 points- I thought. I really liked him, but I would not take his class again.
Horvat was great! No HW, just four tests. They would not be considered easy. I studied hard & got B's on all of them, but with the curve it bumped up to an A. Opportunity for extra credit. DO IT! And it helps to go to SI, he gave us practice tests.
He's so hilarious! Contrary to other reviews, this class is very reasonable. Tests are a bit hard, but he curves them so it's easy to get an A. The hardest part is getting around to reading the textbook (he has ?'s only from the book). Pay attention and you'll do great! 4 tests + EASY extra credit
This professor was a blast to take. His tests were difficult, but I always felt prepared for them. He would always take time to slow down and explain something more clearly if somebody didn't understand. I really didn't need my book, I just took good notes and was fine. I would reccommend this teacher to everybody. He is fun and fair.
Horvat is by far my favorite in the psych department. He only has 4 tests, and as long as you attend the lectures it's an easy A. He also has a lot of funny stories from real life scenarios which keep the class entertaining! I would recommend him to everyone!
LOVE!!!!! HIM!!!!! He is my favorite teacher I've ever had! He is SO FUNNY! I still laugh periodically just thinking about some of the stuff he'd say and his very animated facial expressions. lol. Really gets you to understand and be interested in subject matter. You have to study a ton! the 4 exams are EVERYTHING and they're hard but it's worth i
Take notes and go to his si classes and you'll do fine! My hardest class but I learned the most from him!
Great professor! He really cares about his students, but this class is not easy. Go to the SI's, do the practice tests, extra credit and you should do well. I got B's on the test, but he curves them so all of them were changed to A's. I gave up on the text book after the first test. The 5 Q's from it were so hidden I didn't bother & still did well.
I love Horvat! He is really funny and is pretty much the only reason I keep going to class. He explains psychology in a way that it is easy to understand. If you take psych take it from him.
Dr. Horvat is the best! He is hilarious and very entertaining. The class consisted of attending lectures and taking 4 exams, which were graded on a curve, but were not easy. Study the powerpoints and show up for class. I barely opened my textbook.
Study! He's funny and a great guy. Some of extra credit is weird, but over all good class.
Interesting class
If for no other reason, he is one of the most interesting people I've ever met. His classes are extremely straight forward. Take notes on everything he says and you will do well. I regret not taking more classes from him.
Dr. Horvat is a wonderful instructor. He explains things well and keeps students engaged. He wants students to succeed and will do a lot to help you along the way.
Awesome
He's super funny and makes class fun. His jokes and stories were the best part of my day!
Dr. Horvat was one of my most memorable professors at Weber State.
I liked the way he engaged everyone into the class. The people in the back didn't really get picked on, he is just really funny, and i enjoyed his class.
Overall, this class wasn't very hard. He provided many real life examples to help understand new concepts better. The tests are a little hard, but if you use all materials and study groups provided, you will do just fine.
He is probably one of the most funny teachers I have ever had. However, his tests are really hard. If you go to his study groups and go to the classes and talk notes on all of his slides then you should do good. Do the 4 homework assignments and get the 4 days of random attendance and it's an easy A.
One of the best teachers i have ever had. His humor kept me intrigued the entire class. Attendance wasn't mandatory but you honestly want to go to this class. The tests are very difficult and require a lot of studying. Other than that, best class i have had at WSU.
Best Psych teach I've ever had.
This is the best teacher I've ever had! He is very entertaining and loves to keep the class involved. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you'll do better if you show obviously. Very fun class!
Fun class, very entertaining. Tests were difficult, most info came from lectures, going to the reviews and studying a lot helped. He curves the exams which helped. He kept you interested and even though it wasn't mandatory attendance I always wanted to go because it was a fun class. Study hard, read the book and attend lectures and you'll do fine.
Very fun class! You need to make sure you try to make all the class lectures, a lot of test questions come from the powerpoints he shows. There is a test review after every section covered which helps a ton! I did very well on the tests just by studying the powerpoint notes and attending test reviews.
He is definitely the funniest teacher I've ever had. The class is pretty easy if you show up. Basically if you take notes on his powerpoints you'll do fine. Almost everything on the test is in them except for a couple book questions. In all I would recommend him.
He defiantly keeps the class interested on the material. I would recommend him to anyone! He does move fast so make sure to go to class and take notes! Make sure to read the book because his tests are tricky and can potentially harm you if you don't read the book. Attendance is mandatory but he's a great guy and willing to help out.
He is absolutely hilarious! This was my favorite class to go to my first semester. He lectures very well, keeps students involved, and you learn a lot! He only has 4 tests, curves them based on the top score of the class and drops the lowest. So pretty much just 3 tests. However, the tests are pretty tricky and someone in my class is a genius.
Interesting, funny, and very experienced in the field. Probably my favorite teacher, and got me interested in possibly minoring in psychology.
Hilarious teacher, died laughing several time. Tries to keep the class involved. Tests are mostly based off lectures and are multiple choice, he also gives review preparations for them. Then drops a test at the end, which really helps. Very knowledgeable teacher.
Intense course with lots of textbook reading if you're taking it online in a 7 week block. Gave useful tips, weekly chat sessions, and study guides which helped a lot. Never met him in person but seems like a great professor!
Horvat was really cool! DO NOT buy the book unless you feel you absolutely need to. I barely used it at all. His stories and rants are amazing, never had a teacher so entertaining before. He offers a little bit of extra credit, but the rest of your grade comes entirely from tests which are EXTREMELY difficult so be sure to go to the reviews.
Dr. Horvat is hilarious, there was not a day in class that I didn't bust up laughing. He makes his lectures interesting and will occasionally tell you questions that will appear on the test. The only difficult thing about this class was the tests. Some of the questions on his test are worded strangely which makes hard. Overall though a great class!
How 2 pass: Go 2 the test reviews. Instructor has never seen his slides b4 the review. It comes str8t from the test. Prioritize your schedule around the reviews (move classes if you have 2). usu@1:30 -Doesn't drop lowest test grade anymore. -Go to class, copy slides, also write what he says. Horvat is a blessing 2 the world. Funny. Have fun.
This was the hardest class I have ever taken. I get straight As and barely passed. If you're not a psychology major and just taking it for a minor credit it will kick your butt! 4 tests and they are so hard! No assignments to pad your grade either
Horvat is an awesome guy and is really funny! He enjoys his students and like to make them feel uncomfortable haha. His lectures are interesting and great, but his test are worse than trying to undo a bra on your girlfriend for the first time, AKA, nearly impossible it seems like.
Horvat is awesome. You won't regret taking him, he's seriously one of a kind. I laughed so much in this class. He's funny and has a lot of real world experience that pertains to the subject matter... If you go to class you'll do well, plus I looked forward to his lectures so hopefully you will too.
Funny, experienced professor. Great examples to help understand, but very dull presentations, and at times cruises through the slides, and does not post slides until you beg him. Exams are only lecture based. The only other homework was a couple article readings. Fairly easy class.
Excellent and funny professor. His lectures were clear (Very important to take good notes and study them, because that is basically the stuff that is on the exam) DO NOT BOTHER WITH BUYING THE BOOK! just go to review days and study well. Only 4 exams in total.
Took it online. Read and take the exams. He drops your low score. Got an A on the first 3 exams and basically had the last three weeks of the semester off. Sweet!
Horvat is a good teacher who enjoys this subject. His tests are tricky and you must study hard. I loved the information, so it wasn't hard for me to be nose deep in my Psych book for hours. Plan on studying hard and being in class.
I took Psych 1010 from him and loved it!! He is so funny and explains everything really well. He is willing to meet with you if you have any concerns and answers questions in class. He offers extra credit but dont be late turning it in. There isnt any homework aside from the reading, but you might be able to scrape by without the book.
I LOVED his 1010 course. He always had me laughing, and even though the class was at 7:30 in the morning, I always wanted to wake up and go. Missing class is not suggested because he does not post notes online. 4 exams, studying is necessary and you can earn 10 pts of extra credit (TURN IT IN EARLY). Super interesting and he's a great teacher.
Professor Horvat is one of my favorite professors at Weber State! He was super funny and made the 2.5 hour long class enjoyable. Your grade is based on 4 tests and they are straight from the lecture. If you take good notes, you should do well. The book is a waste of money. He presents the material in a clear manner and gives great examples to help.
Learned a lot from him. Only 4 tests through the whole semester. Makes the lectures funny. Take notes for sure... Test reviews throughout the semester are what made me pass the tests.
Super super funny and so entertaining!! The only thing you do is get lectured (take notes) and then take 4 tests throughout the semester. There is a test review before each test and the lady who does them pretty much just gives you all the answers. Definitely an easy A. DIDN'T EVEN OPEN THE TEXT BOOK, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.
Horvat is my ideal professor. He is hilarious, an expert in his field (he worked as a forensic psychologist... so this guy has some great experience and stories), approachable, and makes the concepts clear and easy to understand through his use of examples and stories. Take the time to make flashcards based off the lecture and you'll do great!
His lectures are what he bases most of his tests on, so pay attention in class. He is generally very strict about his syllabus so don't ask for exceptions. You will learn and talk about sensitive and controversial subjects so if you can't handle that then this might not be the class for you. Don't expect an easy A.
Took it online. This is how the class is: Weekly chats to review reading from text. every 4th week is an exam with a provided partial and vague review/study guide. the exams aren't consistent to the guides or chats. exam questions are worded like an encryption. Don't email for help because he won't provide it. less than ideal. don't do this online
I took this class online. Dr. Horvat's online classes are an independent study format. There is a scheduled weekly chat that helps clarify the material and are very helpful and essential to succeeding in the class. He drops the lowest test score. 1 research paper, which is pretty easy. 4 exams. No homework. I would take another class from him.
You learn a lot of cool stuff about mental disorders. Impress your friends by taking this class, and diagnosing them with mental disorders.
I took Horvat for Pych 1010 and I really enjoyed the class. The first unit is definitely the hardest but stick with it! He has a lot of experience and I liked learning from him. If you are struggling GO TO THE STUDY REVIEWS BEFORE THE TEST! They are SO helpful! He has good stories and keeps the class lively, even the early morning classes!
Don't buy the textbook. You'll be fine without it. Although don't miss his class. Being there in person definitely helps you remember the content better rather than just copying notes from a friend. That's because the guy's hilarious and has really memorable stories to the content. Extra credit up to ten points & only 4 exams-your entire grade
Dr. Horvat is a very great professor. Psychology 1010 is completely based on tests with an option 10 extra credit points that's highly suggested. I recommend laying an emphasis on his NOTES and writing down what he says. Some of these reviews suggest you don't buy a book; however, everyone is different. RENT the book, and see if it helps. STUDY!
Amazing lectures! He has worked in the field and it shows. His stories really help bring concepts to life. Take good notes, because much of what he says isn't in the book, yet shows up on the test. He also brings in several guest speakers that were fantastic. He is very funny, and that keeps the class time flying by. I would definitely take again!
I took the online course and it was awesome. Prof Horvat was very clear about what he expected from his students and he was great to get back to you when you had questions. I learned a ton considering it was an online class. You do have to do the reading. Easy A
The good: -He is super funny! He makes class totally enjoyable -He grades on a curve -He is hyper energetic The bad -sometimes he goes through his lecture slides too fast -he won't post his lecture slides online Professor Horvat is a comedian! Sitting through his class is like sitting through stand up with Dane Cook or Louis C.K.
Do not take an online class from Horvat! Forensic Psychology consisted of 4 exams that were compiled of material from 4-5 large chapters. There is a weekly chat where he asks you a few study questions, but they don't prepare you for the tests. He is lazy and wants to end asap, so he will do the final a month early, giving you a week to study...
Horvat is so funny! He tries to engage the class and make it easier for everyone to understand. He makes you work for your test grades but answers any questions. 4 exams and offers extra credit. No final. Don't skip class because you'll miss all his awesome examples and ways to remember things. He is wonderful!
You do need to be in class. He does care, but he is not going to baby you. He wants you to actually learn. I would take him again in a heartbeat.
Not impressed.
It was a mediocre course.
Absolute best professor I have had. He is so hilarious and gets the class engaged from the beginning. He is a genuine professor and will do what it takes to help you with anything. He is down to earth and makes learning so much fun. I would love to take more classes from him. I highly recommend him, don't pass up an opportunity to take his class!
Horvat has been my favorite professor by far. He gives great examples, and will answer any questions you have. He is very funny, sarcastic, and loud. Reading from the textbook is required because he does not cover everything that is on the tests, in class. His lectures are great and if you miss class, you'll miss a lot of information.
He was a good professor, I just had a hard time with how he teachers. You need to go to each class because most of the test questions are from what he says in his lectures. You only have 4 tests on your grade so you must do well on the tests to pass the class. Funny guy, does not have too many boundaries so don't take if you get easily offended.
He is a very friendly, very funny professor. Be mindful about your ability to show up to class. Only 4 exams were given all semester. None of his lectures or powerpoints are available online.
We have 4 exams for the whole semester that determine our grade. His exams are so hard to pass because he tells us 3-4 chapters to read and only tests on one certain chapter so you never know what the test will be like. His way of teaching is having us read from the text book on our own. When you go to class you'll probably fall asleep.
Tests are hard, must attend class. Extra Credit opportunities but up to 10 points. 4 tests in the whole semester. His lectures are amazing.
Horvat is hilarious and his lectures are never dull! You don't have to participate in class, but it helps a lot if you do. All the exams are multiple choice, but he never gives a study guide. How much time he spends on a topic in class is a big indicator of how many test questions there will be on it. He's a great teacher and it's an easy class
If you don't like group projects and homework, take this class! He is hilarious, and gives fantastic lectures. Everything on the tests is covered in class (I didn't use my book much). He doesn't mess around, but he is an easy A where you'll actually learn something if you attend class and take notes. No assignments, ex cred, only 4 tests, no final.
Absolutely awful. Only 4 exams determine your grade with 40-65 multiple choice questions only. His lectures are useless as he goes off on long stories that have nothing to do the content of what we are studying. I spent at least 28 hours total studying the textbook from cover to cover, but that never helped my grade. Terrible, stay away from him.
This class was the worst class I have ever taken at weber state. Maybe he is better in class than online. I later took this same exact class from a different professor and received and A and actually enjoyed the class. He just thinks you should know everything in the book.
one good thing before I tear him to shreds, the real life stories he provided were memorable. I genuinely hated his class. he was a horrible professor. all exams had incorrect grammar, which was distracting. He freaked out & cancelled class because he saw a phone out and his exams were difficult, unclear and didn't make sense. i made a mistake.
He was very helpful not only in class, but also in helping me to decide my future. He genuinely cares about his students and does what he can to help them. He made my psychology class memorable and I would love to keep taking classes from him.
Horvat is hilarious, intelligent, and a straight shooter. Don't skip class or you won't pass the tests. The only things assigned in class are tests. They aren't hard if you come to class and skim the book. I would absolutely take his class again, I learned a lot.
Horvat was awesome! Abnormal psych is a hard class, but he is a great teacher and makes the work worth it! If taking online, READ THE BOOK before chats!! That's all it takes to pass the class.
Only graded by 4 tests. No homework. One test is dropped. All test material is from textbook, he does not offer anything else. Class was easy, but I did not like Dr. Horvat or how he chose to run the class. The only voluntary help he offered was a 1 hour chat session once a week where he asked the class questions about the reading material.
Dr. Horvat is one of my favorite Professors. He is super funny and makes class fun. You have no homework or no final, which is super nice, but his tests are very hard. You HAVE to read the book before taking the test. Notes are pretty heavy so it is better to not miss class.
Dr. Horvat is very entertaining and knowledgable. The grade is made up entirely from 4 tests throughout the semester. His lectures and the book were the only learning material. I prefer a study guide and more assignments to contribute. I couldn't develop my learning style to meet his teaching style. Attendance isn't mandatory but, DON'T SKIP!
No homework, just four exams. Make sure to read the book before class, it helps a lot. His lectures are awesome, but at times a bit repetitive. Fairly easy class if you study a bit and touch up on chapters. Really interesting professor that talks about a lot of cool cases he has been on before.
Easy to pass if you take good notes in lecture. Your grade is determined by 4 tests that are based almost completely on his lectures.
His class was interesting but defiantly difficult. You have to make sure you read the textbook. Group chats are very helpful, memorize every question that he asks because 90% of the test is the exact same questions and answers. If you attend and participate in the group chats your are going to do better in the class.
I took this as an online block class during summer. To be honest, I could have taught myself the content seeing as the only thing we did was read the textbook and take tests based on the material we read. However, he did have weekly chats which helped tremendously on the exams. He is very straight forward and will not budge on late work or rules.
I loved this class, and Dr. Horvat is very entertaining. It was interesting to hear about real life experiences. I liked that the class only consisted 4 exams, no assignments or presentations. I thought the exams were easy if you were in class for the lectures. No offense, but I don't think some of the intro commenters learned how to study yet.
Would NOT take this class again. He is a funny guy but his test are a killer. I came to every class, took detailed notes, studied for several hours and still couldn't get A's on his exams. He has no other assignments to help boost your grade. Four tests, that's all. I plan to retake the class to get a better grade.
Interesting professor. Had a lot of personal stories to add to his forensic Psy class, I also took his abnormal Psy, Psy3010, and there was a lot of overlap. The entire grade is dependent on 4 test so if you don't test well beware, but he does curve it based on the best score in the class. Harder online then in person.
I took it psy1010 in person and attendance is encouraged. Horvat DOES NOT post his lecture notes or slides online so if you miss a class, better hope someone has some good notes that you can borrow. Taking him in person would be a better idea than taking the class online. Online he only provides study guides and the rest is up to you to figure out
He makes you read the book for all the exams and if you dont remember the book word for word you will fail. He quotes exactly what is said in the book and excpects you to remember the 120+ pages for that quiz. Questions that arent word for word are very vague and usually have 2 answers which could both be right.
Dont take this class from him
Worst teacher for this subject!!!
Hilarious professor, interesting lectures. Didn' read the textbook, took two previous psychology classes and didn't feel like there was anything especially new that was in the text. The tests were definitely written personally by Dr. Horvat, as there were spelling mistakes and questions seemed to be subjective to Horvat rather than facts.
He was very clear on what he expected from his students, and how to prepare for the tests. He is a bit slower than expected when responding to emails, but overall a great professor.
I took the online class, which was completely based on your ability to read and remember 3 huge chapters for each test. Tests are graded on a curve and there are only 4, but he does drop your lowest one. The test are hard to understand and are worded confusing with poor answer options. Pick a different professor unless you have photographic memory.
Honestly probably one of my favorite professors ever. He is hilarious and tells stories about different things he has experienced that are relative to the topic. Attendance is not mandatory but he doesn't post the notes on canvas so you definitely have to be in class or know somebody that can give you the notes. Exams are the only thing graded.
Took 3850 online and it was very easy. He provides a study guide for each test and then tests on those exact questions. He says that you have to show up to chat to pass but he's lenient on requirements. No homework, just four tests and he drops your worst one.
Horvat is a really nice guy who just wants to help you pass. There were no assignments or class work other than tests, so you have to study and pay attention in class because those tests are the only thing on your grade. He's easy to contact and willing to help you out if you miss any lectures. Overall, a great guy and chill professor!
You'll definitely need to buy the textbook for this class. No assignments, just 3 exams. (I took the class online). Dr. Horvat gives you a list of questions to answer that will help with the test, the answers are found in the book. Study these questions!! Dr. Horvat is an okay teacher. He 's very condescending in his communications with the class.
This class is pretty easy. He gives you a study guide for the 4 exams and you answer the questions using your textbook. He holds a weekly discussion and you can ask questions and he'll help you. You take 4 exams and he drops your lowest score. The study guides are the questions on the test just worded a little different so they are not hard.
Solid choice of a professor, lots of note taking from the powerpoints. The powerpoints were only shown in class but he would make sure you could get the notes down. ( need to ask him to stat on PowerPoint or go back). Hence, you need to be in class. He was very reasonable with his grading.
(This did take place during Covid-19) Don't take this professor! He rambles off of subject quite he fell behind in lectures. The final isn't cumulative. The tests are some questions that included his ramblings. Gave up on teaching during Covid-19 and had to learn from book. His tests still had lecture only ramblings. NotEnoughRoomForComplaints
He is not a terrible professor if you are great at teaching yourself. He holds "lectures" through the text chat and answers questions from the upcoming test. Other than short explanations, he doesn't teach us anything and it is all up to you to learn/study. There are 4 exams throughout the semester with no assignments which can be a good or bad.
At first I was excited that it was only 4 tests and no exams. BUT we're in a class chat that is like being caught in a group text. If you miss the chat you have to scroll through everyone talking and its a big headache . I really just had no idea what was going on. Some people can learn that way, but I couldn't do it.
during the pandemic he didnt care if you struggled or anything, your grade is based on 4 tests. passed 3/4 and couldnt do my 4 on time bc wifi and he failed me so i had to withdrawal. the guy is not nice let me tell you, dont make mistakes with him he will just flat out fail you. he gets distracted telling jokes the whole class.
Your grade is made up of 4 test. He refuses to help you with questions. The class is allowed to ask 4 questions combine. I have never had a worse teacher in my life. He does not put anything on the calendar. He is extremely rude and talks down to you. I would never recommend this teach to anyone. He also puts no effort into teaching.
Dr. Horvat knows his stuff. He's worked this field for a long time. I took him for forensic psych and it consists for 4 tests. He provides you with a study guide that follows the tests perfectly. If you're willing to put the time in, you'll do great. Absolutely taking him again for abnormal and criminal psych.
Im sure being a professor during Covid is hard. That doesn't give you permission to be rude & talk down to students when they dont understand the course. Im not a C- student, but the way this class functions is hard to follow because its all over the place. He does give you test questions before, but that did not help the way I expected it to.
There were no lectures at all. All learning was through reading the textbook. There are questions that you are supposed to answer that are similar questions as the test, but some are very vague and he is looking for specifics. There are chats once a week and he will answer 4 questions. Only 4 tests, very strict. Wouldn't take again.
LEARN ON YOUR OWN CLASS. Do not take if you want lectures. You have to learn everything yourself. This class is based off 4 tests worth 25% of your grade. No assignments, only reading. If you get behind your in trouble. READ READ READ. I found this really hard because the tests were so stressful knowing that if you did bad no way to make up.
Prof. answers 4 questions per chapter & deletes class chat if he feels not enough students log on. This was a virtual class without a set class time. You teach yourself from the book and your entire grade is based on 4 tests and 1 paper. Gives reviews for tests but doesn't include all test answers. No lectures & no late work accepted. Lazy prof.
This professor might be good in person, but is seriously lacking online. I do appreciate that he provides some answers to the tests, but in the online forum this class is hard to navigate; the entire schedule, the dates and quizzes, are found in writing on one page. Only quizzes, not inspiring.
To be fair, he did warn us at the beginning of class that all we would get was 4 tests and the study guides for them. I'm not the best test-taker, so maybe that should've been my cue to run. However, I don't think that the study guides he provided were specific enough. Some questions were the same on both, but others were way harder.
Easy to do online. Just go over the study guide, read the textbook, and take the exams on time. Few questions he will go over each chapter but most questions you will need to figure out yourself. Textbook was all facts no bias opinions. I liked it.
Absolutely the worst professor I've ever had. You have no homework but once a week you have a class discussion where you can ask 4 questions as a class. I was having a hard time understanding a concept and he said "sorry, the class already asked 4 questions for this week." Your whole grade is based on test scores, so good luck. You're on your own.
Horvat false under the stereotype of old professors that refuse to change with the times. He even goes as far as to say in the syllabus itself that his methods have been effective for 42 years... he's either ignorant or a narcissist. If you don't mind reading, this class wont be too hard, but if you hate textbooks you should stay far, far away.
Professor Horvat is a cool dude but not a teacher. He lectures and then tests. If you don't learn by sitting and listening to an old dude talk for an hour and 15 minutes then don't do it. He doesn't let you look back at powerpoints so your note taking has to be perfect. He's teaching you to memorize not learn. only graded on tests nothing else.
Professor Horvat was by far my least favorite teacher at Weber. He lectured in class but didn't really explain anything, it was so hard for me to pay attention to his lectures. He provided a lot of extra information in his lectures that was not on the test. No study guides. Our only grades were tests. 10/10 do not recommend.
Dr. Horvat is an excellent abnormal psych professor. His lectures are more like comedy specials than anything else! He has 4 big tests (not cumulative) that are the entirety of your grade. Take good notes during the lectures and have someone ask you questions from your notes as your study guide. If you study, you'll get an awesome grade.
This professor ruined what could've been the most interesting psych class I've taken. The entire class was only graded by exams, no assignments or any other material. The exams were extremely difficult and had tricky questions and often contained misleading formats and concepts that we barely briefed on during his often tangential lectures. 1/10.
if you want to take a class without a teacher this is your class. Teacher was rude and confused in the four messages confused the whole time. you're only allowed to ask 4 questions a section as an entire class comical.
Awful professor. Has no empathy whatsoever. His exams are tricky and very difficult. The ONLY extra credit he provides is if you attend a naloxone training... like we're all supposed to have time to do that? If you have the chance to take this class with a different professor DO IT. Ruined what could have been a really cool and interesting class.
I only heard from Professor Horvat 3 times throughout the semester. You basically read the textbook answering study guide questions as you go and take the test. The tests were really similar to the study guides so it wasn't too difficult but he writes his tests and the wording could be weird and hard to understand.
If you are someone who does great by learning straight from the textbook, no teacher interaction, and excels at exam-taking, this class is actually an easy course to add to a class schedule with harder classes. The whole grade is just from 4 exams, but they're almost word-for-word taken from the study guides.
I honestly wonder what this dude does all day. There are no lectures, and the four exams are auto graded. The class as a whole is allowed to ask 4 questions per week. This is the laziest professor I have ever had. The only time I ever saw him was a short video explaining the syllabus, but it was from 2009. P.S. all the exam questions are on quizlet
I loved Dr. Horvat. I took both abnormal psychology and forensic psychology with him. Yes, your grade is based off of four exams, but if you attend class, take notes, read your textbook, and study, you'll be fine. The exams are also taken out of the highest score, so if the highest score in the class is a 55/60, he takes all the exams out of 55.
Professor Horvat shows zero empathy towards students. His questions and lectures are extremely confusing and I'm doing horribly in his class so far, when I'm usually an A student. He doesn't provide Powerpoints or study guides, so if you don't pay super close attention to his boring lectures, you're done for.
One of the worst professors at Weber. Grade is based only on exams which are based solely on boring, convoluted, lectures, not a textbook. No study guides. No notes allowed on exams. Lectures have almost nothing to w psych. Just gruesome recaps of crimes and personal stories. I learned literally nothing. Waste of time and money. So disappointed.
Joe spends the first day exclaiming that we can drop the class if you don't like his policies. HEED HIS WARNING AND DROP THE CLASS! He distributes learning materials differently depending on the classes test score. If you are in a class that does not score as well, then you won't recieve as many learning materials as a class that did well?! Wow...
Overall he is seems like a pretty nice person. He gives clear expectations of everything. Worst part is your whole grade is based on 4 exams that have to be done in the testing center, a signature assignment, and one extra credit opportunity. There is a textbook listed but you really don't need it. He'll pretty good at answering questions.
Professor Horvat is disengaged with realty. He mindlessly reads his slides, and he tends to go off on long side tangents about his "interesting" life as a professional psychologist. It takes away from the learning experience, and it is quite boring. I opted to view lectures afterwards on a recording that played at 2x speed. It was still slow for me
Had to take tests in person even though it was an ONLINE class. Super grumpy old dude
This professor should have retired long ago. His teaching style has not adapted with technological advances. The man uses powerpoint without starting the presentation. He's doing his best, but it's barely enough to convey the information. Horrible professor who is coasting on with tenure. Does not care about the students' education at all.
Professor Horvat's class is a mixed bag. While the lectures can be dry and tangent-heavy, the exams are quite challenging. Using unstuck study and the textbook proved helpful for staying on top of the material. Overall, an average experience.
This was a topic I was very excited to learn about but I do not recommend this professor!! I reached out to him to ask for help, he told me that I should be spending 13-15 hours per week studying, rewatch the lectures 3 times (1.5 hours long), and to spend 45 hours studying for EACH exam. Which is insane for a 3 credit elective class.
He does not seem to understand the concept of an online class. He should have retired a long time ago. The exam questions don't ask much about abnormal psych and are geared towards strange details he discussed in the lecture videos. His lecture videos are so long because he is constantly off topic. All the exams are due in the middle of the day.
He has a lot of experience in the field, and shares stories related to the topic. One of my favorite professors I have had yet. Class is fully online including tests. Open notes exams with extra credit opportunities. As long as you pay attention in class and take notes, you can easily pass.
Avoid this professor for Psychology if you want an engaging class. Lectures are dull, full of off-topic tangents and rely on outdated slides. He withholds test materials from struggling students and blames them for issues. While knowledgeable, he's slow and dismissive, more interested in ranting than teaching. Find another instructor if possible.
This is my last semester for a Bachelor's degree, and this has easily been the hardest class I've taken. It's not a difficult subject or content, but the professor does almost nothing to teach you. He rushes through slides then doesn't provide them for students to review. Information on tests is the least relevant information designed to trick you.
Should have listened to the review that called this guy a grumpy old man.
Take any other psychology professor if possible.
He is very charismatic, but that's it. This is pretty much a self taught course with an old man reading off of slides like a robot. No help from the professor when asking during class he said that I could talk after class. After class he just shifted my lack of understanding of the subject on my (the student) shoulders. Wow
Unrealistic test expectations. Given very limited time for very difficult tests. Given no material for the class besides listening to zoom.
