if u dont get an A in this class you're just retarded
Mancuso is the best professor!! He makes learning fun......and its an easy A
if you don't get an A, you should reconsider college
He rocks! Interesting with flare and dazzles the audience. In the closet still however! Cool guy though
great professor, very easy, tons of extra credit
No Comments
Awesome, is funny, keeps u awake, and u actually dont wanna miss class. Plays sometimes boring, but exams taken straight from lecture and plays
If you have a pulse you will get at least a B. If any intelligence is lurking upstairs whatsoever, an A is extremely likely.
Excellent teacher....knew what he was talking about. I mean he IS a director. He can be corny but he's mad funny. I had a good time in his class..if you need a boost in your GPA this is the way to go. Show up, Laugh, take some notes, and you're good.
one of the best professors ever. it's a fun class, he doesn't keep you long and it's never really boring, he's a funny guy most of the time. easy A if you listen during lectures and take the notes he tells you to
anyone who doesn't get an a should be demoted back to elementary school. so easy...i think i went to class twice all semester.
REALLY easy class if you have notes from First Class. All in all, I guess it's interesting but jsut get the easy A.
super easy except exams are essay .. a little bit harder then theater apps but its still an easy A class...
Mancuso is nice, hilarious, and an easy teacher. Though people may not come to class, beware that his notes ARE important, so its worth coming to class. The exams were straightforward..from notes & plays.
Funny guy, great class. Easy A. Take notes and listen to lectures, tests come right from lectures and plays. Most of the plays are great
This class is an easy A, but you have to go to the plays and take notes in lectures. Exams are right from notes and plays. He is a funny guy, and he lets u out early
read the other comments, easy class
His class is extremely easy!! The variety of plays are excellent. He is VERY FUNNY! Exams are streight from the notes! If you show up to class you are sure to get an A and a lot of laughs!
Really easy, and a really nice guy. Lecures are funny and informative, and plays (at least the ones I saw) were good. Take this class over the summer if you have nothing better to do. He is very expressive, and almost acts during the lectures. Easy A.
Funny guy, can be serious at the same time. The plays are good and a great class to take!
Mr. Mancuso is hilarious, even brings his dog to class. His dog falls asleep when he starts to lecture. haha
if you take no other course during your college career take this one. he's fun and the class is so easy!
it's sooo much harder than theater app. the tests are harder and the plays are way more boring. i would recommend avoiding this class.
as much as people say you don't need to go to class i think you do. don't know what people find so funny about him, but an easy class nonetheless. gives extra credit option.
nice guy, funny class, decent lectures, easy grades
Great class! So much fun, very glad I took it. Professor Mancuso very nice, understanding and funny. The plays were great! I definitely recommend.
GREAT GUY .. FUNNY AND INTERESTING .. CLASS IS EASY .. GO TO THE PLAYS AND YOU HAVE YOURSELF AN A .. CLASS IN INTERESTING SO GO TO THEM
Easy and fun

silly old man who tells funny stories, just go to class and take a few notes, and see all the plays, you'll get yourself an easy A
Ahh.. one of the joys of Rutgers. THis class is easy, fun, and just enjoyable. There's little that you have to do, just show up and see the plays. OF course it helps to love theatre. The man rocks, take this class!
it is an awsome class. it helps if you are interested in theater. it is an easy A...but it is so worth taking.
Go to class + see plays = A
All you have to do is see plays (make sure to stay awake i nthem) and go to the class, OR buy first class notes.. I got a B somehow, god knows!?
Great Teacher! His class is easy all you have to do is see the plays and get the notes from class... it is worth taking.
great guy...easy class...go to plays and lecture pay attention write some stuff down and you will get an A
I was expecting to see some good plays, but I must've caught this class during a bad semester. We saw the worst plays I have ever seen, and didn't even get a chance to see anything on Broadway. Compared to other theater app classes, I think his was slightly more difficult (still fairly easy).
Compared to other theater app classes, this one was fairly difficult. If you didn't go see all the plays, which were all terrible, you did not do well on his exams. I was hoping to at least see one good play, but all of them were about the same boring thing.
Very easy class. The plays were not so convenient, but they were worth watching. Exams follow the same format as the lectures, so TAKE NOTES.
Very fun class, really nice teacher. I enjoyed all his interesting stories and some of the plays were pretty good. As long as you take notes and see the plays you'll do fine in the class. But you'll only enjoy it if your interested in plays somewhat.
I LOVE MANCUSO!Best prof at RU.So funny and interesting.Wish I took class earlier so I could have taken part2.Have to be an idiot not to get an A.Love him and the class.Looked foward to going to the class.TAKE IT!!
Easy easy class. You will get an A if you take this class. Just go see the plays...they can get alittle annoying after a while though. Easy midterm and final...offers extra credit..He's a good prof. and very funny too. I would definately take him again.
the exams were harder than theater apprec because of essays. many pointless in-class discussions about things that have nothing to do with theater. otherwise, it wasn't that bad.
U C 9 plays (some are boring, but some are not), take 2 exams, show up 4 class (I did other homework during this class most of the time), and get an A, there's extra credit 2, enough said
This man is nice to the max. He knows every eatery within 5 miles of every show. He's a very good teacher, is an easy grader (just go to class - it doesn't really matter if you pass out at some points), and take his class. Nacho cheese in a bucket in your underwear. JOE MANCUSO IS THE BEST TEACHER EVER.
oh man. mancuso rules in every sense of the word. What an enjoyable class and a great man. Honestly this guy is funny as hell too, and not in that corny teacher way. He is the funniest teacher i've ever had and I wish I could take another class of his again. As long as you go see the plays, you'll get an A. I guarantee it.
summer session: benefits of taking it during the summer are that you only need to see 4 plays. He promised midterm 1 would be multiple choice and true or false. 15 people failed his all fill in the blank exam (out of 72). He gave ample extra credit on the final, and I still got an A - despite getting a 70 on the one midterm for the course.
he kicks ass to the max baby yeahhhhhh and he is very sexy by the way
Well it's not THAT easy...I think all the jocks failed it. You have to take notes and memorize that stuff cause exams are fill-in. BUT he gives extra credit and the final was a LOT easier than the midterm. So you can't sleepwalk through the class, but you only need to try a lil. Also, he's funny but class is still boring. Sorry.
very easy class. Mancuso is funny and laidback, for the most part. He gets a little anal during exams. Getting the tickets you want for the plays is a pain in the ass! ppl. will steal ur tickets if you are not there on the day they hand them out. Lectures can get a little boring, especially toward the end of the semeter. overall, its a GPA booster!
This guy is pure genius!! His classes were so extremely entertaining and information!! He had a lot of great stories. Show up to class, go to the plays and you WILL get an A. Some people failed this class and it is beyond me because not only is it easy if you show up, you'll be missing out on a lot if you don't show up. Highly recommended!!
Class? what class, i didnt even go and got a B. Easiest Professor ever.
Easy A. Actually attend the plays and go to class and take notes and you will do fine. 2 exams with a generous curve. He will try to be funny and entertaining and is overall a nice guy. The TA's were annoying though, especially the girl.
So easy. Class was actually entertaining but you can skip it and still do well. Huge curve and an extra credit paper. Awesome professor!
mancuso was so nice! everyone says easy A, but you do have to either go to class or look at someone's notes if you are unfamiliar w/ theatrical terms. i studied 1/2 an hour for exams and got an A, do the extra credit paper its so easy and takes barely any time and can help with those few extra points, very interesting class-definitely recommend it
I LOVE JOE MANCUSO!!!
I LOVE THIS GUY!! I try to take different professors to learn the most possible but I couldn't stay away from him. I am taking him again for TheaterContempIssues and couldn't be happier. He is so funny and brilliant-don't listen to those who say not to go to class!! Don't lose out on Mancuso and go to the plays too!! Easy A if you do the previous.
Easiest class anyone could take at Rutgers if you follow these things: Go to lecture, take down good notes, watch the plays, and study the same day before the exam, and it is guaranteed an A.He is the funniest and most brilliant person ever. This class is fun and not much studying. Only study TWICE for Exams 1&2.Didn't do extra credit, got an A.
Easy class. Go to lectures and plays. Though I did wish sometimes he would just STFU and let everyone leave early.
really easy. go to most of the plays. if u missed some, ask around about them. get notes from someone. questions are straightforward and the exam is really short and easy. extra credit opportunities too.
This class gets to be boring, you talk about issues that effect your life and not about the aspects of theater like you do in theater app. However the exam was pretty easy and he's a really good guy.
EASIEST CLASS EVER. DONT GO TO CLASS, except to pick up tickets. Split the cost of First-Class notes with friends, cheat, and you will get an A EVERYTIME
EASY CLASS go to plays go to class midterm/final=cake walk!
Easiest A anyone could ever get. I ended up going to most of the classes because I enjoyed Mancuso's lectures. The only problem was the NY plays were not on any tests, and the first play we saw in NY was absolutely terrible. Otherwise, great GPA boost.
This class is easy to get a B+ in but if you want an A its a guessing game. Exam questions ask about minute details of plays no one should have to notice.
The class is very easy and the teacher is really nice.
This dude rules!!! His lectures are awesome, most of the plays were actually good, just go the plays and show up at class.
I honestly just took this class as a GPA booster. However, the plays are actually pretty good and Prof. Mancuso is very funny in lecture and obviously knows what he is talking about. I say definitely take this class if either you need GPA booster or better, you are interested in THEATER!!!
There are a lot of shows to see and you really need to have an interest in theater and need to go to lecture. The tests are easy and sometimes random, missing one class can make you miss three questions. It is very easy to get an A with a little help from extra credit but I still dont advise it if you dont like theater. Mancuso is great though.
Easy A unless you slack off. Everything is in the notes, and you do have to go some boring plays but it's not bad and some of them are actually good- I got to see Avenue Q! Take the class but you won't get an A if you never show up.
This class was pretty boring when he was not making jokes, but it was a good class. Some classes are more boring them others. You can skip a few plays or take turns going, not many questions about them on exams. Exams are pretty easy as long as u GO to class and take notes...GPA booster and a good time!!!
Easy. Great elective. Make sure you go to plays exams are based partly on them but the questions are supper easy.
go to the plays and go to class. you may think this class is an EASY A but its not that easy!!! make sure you go to to the extra credit plays as well they do help a lot. he's a great professor holds your interest and he is really funny. take this class with him hes the best!!
Mancuso is the BEST! He's intelligent, insightful, and hysterical. Even if you're not very experienced in theatre he'll find something about it that will pull you in. He's a great lecturer and a fair grader.
funny and nice teacher
Mancuso is amazing and very entertaining. Take this class!
This class is a joke..only went to class once and still got an A..exams are very easy..just have to get first class notes and go to the plays..there around 10 plays so it is a bit much but they are entertaining for the most part..he seems like a good enough guy so maybe going to class is fun but it is not a must..besides all that he curves too..
:) ... easy A if you attend class and go to plays.. .hell i went to 6/10 plays and i passed both exams... kind of funny...
easiest class in the world if you go to the plays and lectures. If you are the kind of person that likes to skip lecture then do not take this class. If you make it a habit to skip class then you will never force yourself to attend these awful plays. If you are willing to attend all the lectures and bad plays for an easy A then take this class.
Mancuso is a very interesting person. He will keep you laughing throughout lectures!
Go to all of the plays. That will determine whether you will get an A or a B in the class.
I liked theater app better than Theater contemp, but I got an A in both of them. Here is a big word of advice, do all the extra credit available! If i didn't do that, I would definitely not have gotten an A. Make sure you see all the plays and try to look for repeating details (like slogans, etc), because they will be questions on the test!
I took a total of 3 pages of notes the entire semester, barely showed up (enough for a few notes, and to get tix) and did fine. He does give notes inbetween his long winded and often boring speeches that ARE on the exam. 2 exams, no papers unless you do the extra credit. Bring a book, a gameboy, something.. I was over his humor by the 2nd class!
Easy class... did no extra credit but still got an A. His exams are multiple choice and very easy. I must've missed about 3 plays but still managed to get the questions right on the exam b/c he went over each play in class. Some classes were interesting like the show case and guest speakers, otherwise, they were pretty boring.
Great teacher, somewhat funny, but extremely easy and very approachable. I got an A and missed half the classes and came in late the other half.
Take the notes he tells you to take. He's a pretty funny guy. Go to the plays and pay attention because he asks questions about the plays on exams that only a person who attended will know what the answer is!!
easy, must go to plays, take notes in class, a gift at rutgers.
nice guy
He does think he is the reincarnate of Anton Checkov and acts as if he is the end all on theater. But he is still brilliant and has a sence of humor, which is great to have a professor who is also a person.
Great professor! He is really funny and knows what he's talking about. You MUST attend ALL plays to do well.
great guy, tells great stories. go to class, its mandatory and its fun
Great class! Mancuso is funny and makes theater painless.
His class has to be like the easiest class in the world!!! Take the COURSE !!!
mancuso should have 30 chili peppers
amazing. nothing else needs to be said. it's not just an easy class, you learn a lot from an expert on the subject. and i gave him the chilli pepper because he deserves it
great guy and I def recommend you take him! very very easy A :)
Fun teacher- Show up in class & take notes (he tells u what to write and what not to)... he even has given some questions in class, so just pay attention and u get an A. Loved the class
He's my best experience at Rutgers. Everything about his class is fun. He's hilarious and tells jokes during class and makes fun of students in a playful way. It's extremely easy if you see the plays and listen to him. He tells you what notes to take pretty much. This class would probably be more fitting if it was called Story Time with Mancuso!
The most famous easy A at rutgers. Take it with Cuse. If you take it with the other guy, you'll have to work and study.
Very good guy. He really knows his stuff. It is by far the easiest A to get. Just see the shows and your set. I went to every class simply because I enjoyed going. It really is that fun... seriously!
Hes amazing. Took the class based on others word had no interest in the arts and I can honestly say this is the best class I've taken at the university. Easiest A. 100 on the first exam. Went to lecture once a week after, Missed 3 plays and still got an A. Take him! His class is fun as well I actually liked going to lecture!
you are allowed to pick your top 3 choices from about 8 or so dates that you would like to go see the play, and they give you tickets for one of those 3 dates, so sometimes they are on weekends. Def recommend doing the extra credit for this class and to see all the plays. (no textbook)
He's a nice guy. The lectures can be fun until it comes down to the audience feedback and then it's a bit dull. Plays vary in how good your experience will be. There were only two plays from the list I liked. Also, going to NYC is a bit of a pain, not to mention more expensive, for performances. But in all, an easy class.
I had mancuso for theatre appreciation and it was the best class I've taken at rutgers so far. All you have to do is watch the plays, pay attention in class and take good notes... then study 30 minutes befroe the final and the midterm and you'll get an A. guarenteed. 38 kids out of 45 got an A in my class on the first test
best class at RU.... even if u dont have to take this clas...take it. its a great gpa booster!! my fav class so far at RU! u wont regret it
Theater Appreciation class. Fun class. Easy A if you go to class. Only 2 exams (that's it). No papers and no textbook. 2 exams make up your whole grade and they are the easiest mult choice exams you'll ever take in your life. Have to go to all 8 mandatory plays though if you want to pass. But if you do than its an easy A
GREAT CLASS! He's a funny guy who really knows his stuff. This is by far my fav class I've taken at Rutgers and I feel everyone should take it. Even if you don't like theatre it's interesting stuff and an easy grade as long as you take notes and see a majority of the plays.
this professor is the man. attendance isn't mandatory, but you end up wanting to go to hear this guy's funny stories. NO textbook, NO papers, and only 2 really easy exams. Enough said.
easy B if you don't go to class, easy A if you go to class. honestly, you don't have to go to any of the plays and you can still get an A. some of them are boring as hell
This class is an amazing GPA booster. You have to attend all classes in order to get an A (or at least cheat off the person next to you). Mancuso's the man, he's hilarious, and his class was the highlight of my day. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
mancuso is awesomeee! if you don't go to class/the plays, you can probably pull off a B or B+, but i don't know why anyone wouldn't go to class, because this man is hilarious! go to class, and you'll definitely get an A, it's ok to miss some of the plays too, because they're discussed in class.
MUST TAKE!
We played hangman yesterday in class... now if that doesnt make you want to take this class then i dont know what else to say! 10 plays (one is a broadway show), 2 possible extra credit, midterm/final, he's so funny and tells a lot of stories... take the class you wont be sorry!!!
I would not say this class is the kind where you register and you patiently wait for an A to show up on your transcript. It is easy though if you attend all the classes and copy down basically everything he says (or get the notes from someone else), and attend all 9 plays. If you do the above, you'll be good for the exams. The class fun. I enjoyed
For anybody who has ever said take this class for an easy A--WRONG. you actually need to go to class and take notes and go to all of the plays..which are time consuming and usually suck. Mancuso is funny but theater apps is probably the most overrated class ever. Thanks to this class I have less appreciation for theater than ever before.
Teacher is excellent, knows the field and have the passion for it.Now,it is unacceptable the way they make the students go to NYC to watch a play so late. The plays start at 8pm which means you would be walking the streets of NY at10:30pm. NJ has many playhouses.Yes, an easy A but need to take notes.
No textbook used, but you MUST attend class and take notes. His exams are fairly easy if you pay attention in class. Know the answers to questions from articles & go to the plays & you will def get an A.
The teacher is very enthusiastic about theater. The class is extremely easy. The only thing you need to do is go to class and takes notes or get someone to do it for you. The exams are cake. Also, it is very easy to cheat, you sit next to people and he doesn't even change the order of the questions. Overall an easy class, just very time consuming.
PLEASE READ. This class is NOT the Easy A you will hear it is. The people who tell you that cheat on the exams. This class is an easy A IF you go to class and take notes, go to the assigned plays, and read the NYTimes Articles he assigns. If you do those things and study a bit, then yes this class is an Easy A. But if you don't study it is NOT!
Awesome.
What a great guy! Lectures are painless. It's basically story time w. Joe. Pay attention to his hand. If he says something that'll be on the exam, he goes to the podium and crosses it off a list. Exams are easy GO TO THE PLAYS. No discussions this sem bc of snow and back problems. we fell behind. usually good convos though. ENJOY!
It's an easy A with Prof. Mancuso. Exams are based on plays and his lectures. Multiple choices are fairly easy. Enjoy the class !
AMAZING professor, so much fun to be in his class. Go to class, see the plays and it's a piece of cake. Going to class isn't tough because his lectures are so entertaining. Get some culture, take this class and have a blast!
EASY EASY EASY!!! Midterm took literally 5 minutes to do if you studied a little. Easy A with a hour or 2 of studying before exam. Go to class and pay attention. Take notes. Go to plays. Really doesn't require much effort. His lectures are interesting and funny so def worth taking it. Some plays are horrible and others aren't that bad.
easy A. but you do have to put a little effort. his exam questions come directly from his lectures and the stories/presentations during class so you have to go. ! cause some exam questions are weirdly ridiculous that you wouldn't know the answer to unless you went to class.
This was the only lecture that I really enjoyed going to. I'm a slacker in general, but I did not miss deadlines to book dates, wrote extra credit papers and attended most of the lectures and plays and ended up with an A! TAKE HIM!!
Very very easy class but you definitely should goto class. Most of the exam questions come directly from things he mentions in lecture that you would not know otherwiswe. That being said goto class, goto the plays, and you should do very well
best professor at rutgers, without a doubt. if you don't take him, you will regret it
Very easy, fun class. Tickets cost $135, which was charged to term bill. 1 play was in NYC, the rest in NB. No textbook. Exams were quick and painless if you took notes and studied them at least once. He is hilarious in lectures and explained everything we needed to know, word for word.
he is amazing!!!!!! he is a very intelletual professor, and his classes are fun cause hes a funny guy. GO TO CLASS!because exams questions include things from his life and life stories! easy A!
Just go to class and pay attention and take notes, and you'll do fine. No textbook. Just exams. Make sure to take good notes because stuff comes on exams. And go to the plays because exam questions (some) come from them. Extra credit papers and a bunch of other stuff. Really funny guy and cool dude. Just make sure to take notes!
This guy is not as funny as everyone says. He tries to be but hes not. You have to attend eight plays on your own free time and provide your own transportation, not for me. Easy if you want to listen to his uninteresting stories and got to broadway twice and campus six times even if you live far away from the city or campus.
I wish there was a way to rate this class more than a 5 for easiness. 90% of the class could care less about theater, and take is simply for its easiness. But is you're in the minority and are genuinely interested its a good introduction to theater. Mancuso's a good funny guy, but honestly the class needs to be made harder. I know its not an honors
This class is relatively easier. But it does NOT mean that it doesn't have anything meaningful. I actually learned alot from this class. The teacher is nice. I suggest more people to take this class.
ummm... easy. go to plays and class, which are both fun and it's an easy A
Probably one of the most interesting classes I took here at RU. Lectures are always fun to attend; he tells funny stories to relate to the material. Even if you hate theater and plays, he will make the class entertaining. Exams are relatively easy if you just go to lecture and pay attention (it's hard no to). Take this class! Highly recommended!!
Really cool guy. He'll help you with anything and his classes are fun and interesting. just go to class and the plays and you'll get an A.
Easy class. Just go to class and play and get an A. Although class and plays are fun depending on personal interest, but he selects all kinds of plays so you can't hate all the shows. :)
Very entertaining guy. If you want an A you need to actually go, some of the test questions you'd never know unless you were there. This was my favorite class to attend though, he has tons of stories and makes everyone laugh. Very easygoing. Some of the plays were bad, but they change every semester. Learned a lot about theater. Take his class!
Professor Mancuso is the best. His class is not difficult, and its probably the most fun class you get to go to. The exams are not hard as long as you go to the plays and most of the classes. The class is def. a GPA booster, but you have to put in a slight effort to get an A. If you need an elective or an easy fun class, take this class with him!!!
Taking Theater Appreciation with Mancuso is a unique Rutgers experience like eating a Fat sandwich or going to a football game. If you're looking for some theater love, discount tickets, a GPA booster, or just a jolly good time, this is an absolute must-take course!
EASY A if you attend class! Don't rely on studyblue, just go to class because it's enjoyable the majority of the time. Plays vary semester to semester but I greatly enjoyed all of the ones I saw and this class really revived my interest in theater. The final exam for this class was the easiest final exam I have ever taken my entire life. TAKE HIM:)
This class is a joke. It's super easy if you go to all the plays and still easy even if you don't. The plays that aren't student productions are okay but the Mason Gross ones really suck IMO. All you need to know is stupid general information. Two plays in the city which was a bit too expensive especially after course fees. Not cool. Easy A though.
Make sure you go to the plays. Get the notes from StudyBlue; they're basically the same for every year. Extremely easy A. He uses some questions for exams based on stories he tells in class so that could be the only hard part about exams. Overall so easy. Take it
If you dont mind seeing 9 plays and traveling to the city then take this class. He spends 90% of the class telling stories and then the other 10% giving notes. It's not a hard class but attending all these plays makes the class tedious. Personally if your looking for an easy annoying "A" here it is
SO EASY. Just go the shows and go to class and take notes. Exams are REALLY, REALLY easy and are directly from the notes and shows. If you don't get an A in this class you don't belong at Rutgers. Put in a little effort (as in study the night before exam) and you'll be fine. Really nice, funny guy too. Classes are entertaining.
hes an easy professor and material are very easy but YOU NEED TO ATTAND CLASS AND TAKE NOTES. ALL QUESTION ARE FROM THE NOTES. if you dont like seeing plays then its not your class. if you want to have fun during your semester and go to the city to watch play this is it.. but you need to balance your time.
He puts up with a lot of people disrespecting him during his lectures, he understands that this class isn't the most arduous at Rutgers but he is amazing. He tells about what he wants and how he wants it done. IF YOU ATTEND CLASSES OR GET THE NOTES you will be fine, go to the classes and just put up with the 5 minute/week workload! TAKE IT
amazing guy. Very funny
AMAZING PROF. BY Far the easiest class I have taken. Go to class and take notes because it will be on both exams. The exams were both easy and go to all plays because its worth the A in the course. GPA BOOSTER.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU'RE LAZY. Sure class isn't mandatory, but the exams arent that easy even if you know about theater. & you have to go to like ten 2.5 hour plays on your own time! SO time consuming it sucks! And I like theater! You need to know little details from the shows for exams, not plot. Take dance appreciation.
If you dont get an A in this class, you should seriously drop out of Rutgers and call yourself a failure. Easiest class at rutgers with an awesome helpful, energetic, funny professor. I would retake the class just to hear this man speak.
these are the types of classes you remember years from now. this man loves his craft and genuinely cares about his students. you will get at least a B for signing up for class. an A if your ears work. an A+ if you takes notes and go to class. trust me youll want to go to class. word up joe mancuso..the realest dude since uncle phil
Mancuso is the greatest person you will ever meet. This class is an easy A and great GPA booster. Attendance to plays and performances are required but his midterm and final exam are so easy, it makes up for everything. I highly highly recommend this class for anyone who has not taken it.
There are tons of questions from the plays! If you don't go to the plays your screwed! I previously heard there was one question from each play but this semester I counted 12-15 play questions on the exam. Make sure to get all the notes from the various performances in class too.
super easy class. you have to try to fail, it's that easy. seriously take the class if you need a gpa booster.
Not a bad class. Go to lecture in order to get an A though. Just reading the guides on studyblue and going to plays is not enough. Nice guy, with a great sense of humor and really good stories.
Mancuso is hilarious!! The class gets boring sometimes but over all it's an easy A. You don't have to go to class but it will help because he literally tells you what's going to be on the exam. Take his class!!!
GREAT professor! Definitely take this class, he loves what he does and is hilarious
Really easy class, but attend the plays and most of the lectures. All the plays were good and hes a really funny, awesome guy. Take this class!
Great professor! Make sure you go to see all the shows. He keeps the class interesting. Just don't go to class hungry because he likes to talk about food.
Easy A if you go to all the plays. Fantastic teacher too.
It's an easy B lol. If you want to get an A, go to every single play and pay attention, every single class and take notes. DO BOTH EXTRA CREDITS especially if you miss a play because you never know when you might need those extra 6 points. I needed those extra points.
You need to go to class and pay good attention to his lectures besides going to all the plays; that's not enough alone. He doesn't use powerpoint he just rambles so its hard to follow and if u miss something u are screwed for the exam. if u don't have a lot of free time do not take this class (8 plays, 2 ec plays)
Easiest class at RU. I got a 50 on my first exam because I didn't know what to study. Go on STUDYBLUE and memorize EVERY SINGLE WORD ON IT and it will be easy.
Easy A if you go to all plays, memorize all info on studyblue (exam questions are all on there) and do the easy two extra credit papers. didnt go to one lecture besides the first day and got a 98. if you dont get an a in this class there is something wrong with you. mancuso is also a great guy and very personable
Course is a combo of attending live theatre, lectures by Prof. Mancuso, and talks by visiting actorsdirectors. Wide range of topics covered from the Meisner acting technique to discussions of each production. Prof. has a dry sense of humor; lectures are interesting and fun. Lots of opportunities for extra credit. Highly recommend Prof. Mancuso.
This class is not super easy! You have to go to like 6 plays separate from class (easy to forget). Everyone ends up doing EC. I have several friends who did not get As. You can only do well on exams if you get the old ones or find them on study blue. I just BARELY got an A.
His pet peeve is when the entire class starts to pack up early so be sure not to do that or he will have no problem calling you out in front of the entire lecture hall. Basically show up, listen, respect him, attend the plays and you're golden. He may be an easy A but his class is so much more.
Professor Mancuso is great. Easy class. No textbook. Just listen and take notes. Gives good examples that make lecture stick with you. Requirements: Order plays before deadline, Attend plays, write a 1 page (more or less equals points off) paper on just 2 of the plays (attach ticket stub or lose points) Mid-Term & Final. Easy A. GPA BOOSTER!
Mancuso is really easy, his midterm is like word for word off study blue except there is 5 questions from each play you see. Some stuff he says in class is included on exams but even if you get those wrong you'll easily get an A. 2 one page papers due, opportunity for 6 points of extra credit. Good luck, it's a joke.
Joe Mancuso could be one of the best professors in all of Rutgers. The guy has a true skill to capture a whole lecture hall's attention and keep them entertained with his story-telling for an hour and 20 minutes. He truly inspires students to see the parallels of life and theater. By the end, I was happy I took his course, and you will be too.
YOU HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION TO HIS LECTURE AND TAKE NOTES. This is not a class where you can't just doze off. If you take notes and go to plays, it is easy A. There is one midterm and one final. I did alright in the midterm, got an A on the final. He does offer extra credit.
You need to work for the grade. But it is 100% possible to get an A. There are many extra credit oppertunities. Take it only if you have couple of friends. There are many plays to attend and it would be fun to go with friends. Tests are easy. Straigh from class notes and plays.
Loved this professor. He is by far one of the best I have had. I took this class as a GPA booster, but it turned out to be my favorite class of the week. His lectures are from his real world experiences and his stories are so funny. He keeps you engaged and cares about every student. Definitely try to take a class with him!
LOVE HIM he's hilarious he starts class late and ends early so it's not even long. You do have to pay attention for the test that are super easy and the guest speakers are amazing!!! If he taught any other class I would take him again!
I love this class! It opened my eyes to the world of theatre
This class is easy, but, you do need to actually go to class and the 6 required performances to get an A. (Missing one play is probably ok). Just go to class, take minimal notes, and go to the plays. Then just read over notes before exams and you're fine. Just one midterm and final make up basically your whole grade. Offers extra credit too
Great class. Super easy as long as you show up, listen, and take a few notes. Two mult-choice tests make up 90% of the grade. Fair warning: his stories show up on tests, not just theatrical definitions. Shaves 10 minutes off the beginning and end of lecture. Offers up to 6 extra credit points on your final average. Class is better with friends.
Definitely take this class with friends. Only two exams, but need to attend shows in order to know whats going on. Also, stories from lecture show up on exams. It's an easy A and there are also 6 points of extra credit.
I thought Mancuso was really funny. There wasn't a class that I didn't laugh. If you show up to class and pay attention to his stories you'll do fine, don't even need to take notes. Most of the plays are interesting, some aren't. Theres opportunities to do extra credit. Final answers are online
Okay teacher.
I don't see how anyone could not love Mancuso. From day one, everything he explains is crystal clear. His lectures are full of personal stories that can show up on the exams, so it's good to go to class (not like you'd want to skip such an interesting class anyway). He brings in awesome lecturers and picks local plays along with some in NY. Easy A.
Easiest A ever. You'd be stupid not to take him.
Theatre Apprec is easy ONLY IF YOU GO TO CLASS AND TAKE NOTES simply write down the little facts and definitions he says go to the plays and do one or two extra credit and you will pass with an A. just showing up will not get you an A i tried that on the midterm and got a C, ended with an A because of extra credit.
I only went to 2 plays, maybe 2 classes the entire semester, didn't do the extra credit offered and got a B+. Just google "theatre app rutgers midterm" and someone will have posed all the terms on quizlet or studyblue. For the plays, you can get by with summaries. Take the class with friends for groups, study for exams together & you're golden!
Keeps talking about himself all lecture long - the whole lecture is based on him and his life experiences. AND he tests you on these life stories.
He is so kind, funny and a great professor.
One midterm (70% of grade), two quizzes (one is 15% and the other 10%) and 5 % for reserving tickets for the plays. GO TO THE PLAYS!! He asks detail questions about what went on during the play & also keep the play bill he asks about information in that as well. Overall the class is really easy if you take the time to study your notes/Quizlet!!
Joe is extremely a good guy. I love him so much, although I am an international student and I do have language barrier. Anyway he makes the course so easy and made me easy to understand. 100% attendance is strongly recommended because exams all come from what he said. Just Showing up, studying in groups, get bunch of notes from American students.
Easy class if you put some time into it. You have to attend the plays because he asks specific questions that you won't be able to get from online summaries, also you need the playbill because he uses that to make questions. He is so funny and makes lectures interesting.
Professor Joe Mancuso is an absolute expert in the subject of Theater. I took this class for a core requirement and it was entertaining every time I went to class. The way he lectures is so fun and entertaining it's like going to a play every time he teaches. Very humorous man and be prepared to go to a lot of plays while you take this class.
caring & funny
Prof Mancuso is such a nice man. he really does care for his students. His class is very easy as long as you don't skip and pay attention. Its good to have a friend in the class though, you have to see at least 8 plays.
mancuso is a great professor. his stories are entertaining and all relate to the topic. kinda strict with talking and phone use. the plays are mandatory (the exams are based off the plays) brought in so many entertaining guest lecturers. he also offers 2 extra credit opportunities this was a great class overall easy A
Professor Mancuso tested us on very specific things that were only mentioned once in a very light manner during lectures or plays. My peers and I are struggling to even get a C. We studied for the final for hours and yet only knew half the answers due to how specific the exam was. The final even had grammataical and organization errors. Not good.
Everyone told me this class was going to be easy. He's a chill dude and low key funny but the exams were extremely specific to the plays we had to go to. I took this class for the easy A which is above a 92 and it is not worth all the hype. You have to spend hours outside of class to go to plays and know random stuff.
Thought this would be an easy A class but it is not at all. Everything from exams being on the littlest and most specific things to test errors on his side to him complaining about the most mediocre things. I am a straight A student yet I have a C in this class. Such specific questions on the exams were just ridiculous. I don't recommend this class
Not an easy A. This class is for theater enthusiasts only. Exams are very hard. Coming from a honors pre med student.
Class is an easy elective, but not as easy as everyone makes it sound. Very easy to get a B, but good studying is needed for an A.
So you better attend this class because a lot of questions on his exams are about his stories he tells during the lecture. YOU ARE going to spend massive time outside of class cus you have to go watch 5 to7 theater shows, 2 to 3hours per show outside of class. in nyc, princeton etc which is super annoying. other than that, its easy for sure
Honestly, just show up to class and go see the plays. You'll get an easy A.
He's passionate about theater and dedicates class time to tell life stories. I missed a couple classes but always got the notes from friends. I even missed two plays (1 cuz I didn't feel like it and 2 cuz of the snow); so if there was a video of the entire play, I would watch it online or I would read a synopsis. He was my first A :)
He's amazing and funny, he cracks jokes during lecture. Exams are based off of what he says during lecture so u MUST attend. We have 6 mandatory plays, two in NYC and the exams are also based off of those plays, so u have to go and see them. The class is easy, I got an A, missed a few lectures but got notes from friends. Pretty straight forward
Very difficult not to get an A. All you have to do is register for all the plays, and go to most of them. Only 2 exams, both about plays and lectures. Pay attention in lecture and take notes in detail, but if you dont, get notes from someone who takes them meticulously. Offers VERY generous extra credit. Spring 18 is his last semester so take him!
Amazing class and amazing professor. He is soo easy but you definitely have to pay attention in his lectures. His exams consist of the plays and his lectures. An easy A tbh
Probably the easiest class offered at Rutgers. This spring will be his last semester though so if you want a GPA booster, take his class. No work in the class other than going to the 6 plays. Midterm and final both non-cumulative. "Studied" maybe an hour before each exam and managed to get an A in the class. Super easy and he's a funny guy
If i had gone to all the classes i wouldve got an A. Go to class hes actually interesting and tells great stories. And the plays are cool although going to ny twice was inconvenient. Spring 2018 is his last semester so take him. Hes a really great professor.
although this was prof mancuso's last semester, I still have to write for him. he is so amazing. like, I'm so sorry for everyone who did not take him. you truly missed out. easiest A at the rut.
Mancuso is LITERALLY the Santa Claus of Rutgers, he's incredibly jolly, has relatively interesting lectures (coming from someone who doesn't care much for theater). The people complaining about this class being hard were the people who didn't take notes or didn't show up at all. I had a 74 on my first midterm but an A overall just from showing up.
