Joe is a very good professor and constantly goes over the material to beat it in your head. He is also funny and this was the easiest class I've taken. His tests are so simple and easy, he gives out hints which turn out to be answers on the exam; it's practically a guaranteed 4.0.

Nice guy but it was his first time teaching bio 145--he didn't understand the concept of "introduction"..this class is an intro class...but he really does know what he is talking about..however...he is not a good match for someone with no biology background

He was a great guy. He really knew his stuff. He's funny and it's a pretty easy class. The downside is he's kind of slow and can get off track, so when you have a lot of material to cover it can be irritating when he gets off track. Overall an easy prof and a nice guy!

Good instructor who tries to be helpful to his students. When he is wrong about something, he will admit it. Keeps things amusing but, sometimes has bad days-swears to the point of several F-bombs (I've never had a teacher do that before). Lab exams have questions that prompt the answer. Uses class notes and overhead of the textbook. Doesn't post.

Joe gives you the notes for in class and tells you what to study for the exams. Study the notes and you will be fine. He is a cool teacher but swears ALL the time and sometimes its degrading. The only grades you get are the grades on your exams. There is no homework or quizzes. You are going to have to study a TON for this class.

One of my favorite teachers! He keeps the class interesting and relates it to real life which help you remember it. He will only ever test you on things in the notes. The text book and lab manual could be purchased to study from but are not necessary to pass the class. I would highly recommend his class!

Awesome teacher! Whoever said not to take it with obviously didn't try. He is extremely helpful and only goes over what is expected to know. If you need extra help he is more than willing. Class is somewhat challenging, as it is supposed to be. Joe is the best, though. Explains everything in great detail and gives you real world application. I had joe for anatomy and hes a really great and funny guy but he lectures most of the time in class. Your grade is based solely on the exams but the exams are really easy if you study.

A little more organization and focus and the 3 hour class could really be 2.. I appreciated that he focused on the important things. His exams were fair and if you study a 4.0 is easy to get.

Mixed feelings... He's ok, however he cusses a bit too much. It comes across as unprofessional and disrespectful to the students. Also, he goes off on tangents and gets off topic. Besides that, an A is attainable if you study the outlines he provides. You don't need the book that much and he drops the lowest grade. Some extra credit on lab exams.

The tests were very easy, Joe always told exactly what would be on there. Hilarious guy, makes lecture fun. Gives some extra credit on the exams. You have regular exams, 6 in the semester, so you are constantly being tested on material. Which is nice, you aren't tested on a bunch of stuff half way. DEFINITELY TAKE WITH HIM!! Highly suggest.

If you don't take Joe, I don't know who else you're going to take. He is one of the best professors I've ever had. He has a Puerto Rican accent which makes you pay attention closely but he makes this class fun & easy. Show up, pay attention, take notes & you'll pass! "YOU'RE A DAMN GENIUS!"

Show up and pay attention in class. Whatever he lectures on or writes on the board is what he tests you on. No tricks, no gimmicks. He's fair and straightforward. Good reading comprehension and basic understanding of terminology is a must. Maybe, take medical terminology, BIOL 121, or level 100 human anatomy before taking his class.

Professor Ortiz graded and handed back quizzes less than 24 hours after the class turned them in. He builds students up and encourages learning in a fun, effective, and creative way! Overall, I wouldnt take this class with anyone else!

Joe is one of the best professors you will find at LCC in the Biology Department. Everything that he teaches relates to the medical field and he provides great examples. The more you participate within labs and lectures, the more you understand concepts.
