This guy is one of the best, he's right there with Heinrichs and Rosik. He _extremely_ animated - at first I found him nutty, but then I realized he was just trying to entertaining. There was a lot of hw, but most of it was easy and if you did all of it, it's an easy A. I even got a 63 on 1 test and still managed an A. Definitely recommended.
He is a great teacher. I enjoyed every class with him. He jokes around a lot which I enjoyed. I would recommend this teacher to anyone.
He's very INTERESTING! he's funny. Sometimes he's just wierd/funny. Overall, his teaching is GREAT! I'm hardly tired in his class because he makes it fun! Your lab manual will definately help you in your exams. Taking notes wil DEFINATELY help you pass! I would DEFINATELY RECOMMEND HIM!!!! HE'S AWSOME! :) I'm not kidding.
Joe is an energetic (almost hyper) teacher that cares about his subject, in this case Intro to Oceanography. He graded us 1/3 on homework, 1/3 on 4 tests during the semester, and 1/3 on final exam. His tests are straightforward and he doesn't try to trick you. He is very approachable and willing to help. I highly recommend taking classes from him.
I heard that esci was "easy",still, this was a hard class!READ the book info to reinforce the lab manual.The4tests gradually get harder. Not a bunch of homework:20pg/book,5pg/lab a week.Joe is friendly in an eloquently psychotic sort of way(don't give him candy!).He is a great instructor AND his favorite band is Type O Negative!Use his office hours!
I think he's really good! He's very easy to understand. If you still don't, he'll break it down for you. He's really hyper and funny! :) Go to class, take good notes. Make sure you look at your syllabus. Sometimes, he doesn't tell you there's a quiz, it SHOULD be on the Syllabus. If you ask, he'll tell you. You hardly use the text book. He's Awsome
GREAT professor!!! one of the best he made class so fun that I actually wanted to come to class. He is very hyper (one time furing class he was giving a lecture and people were starting to doze off he cawed like a bird in the middle of class)but serious at the same time. He made the class very enjoyable!
Joe was a really fun professor. Lot's of energy which was nice for a night class. He is really helpful and will go out of his way to help you get a good grade! Tests are challenging, but you learn a lot. Do your homework and you will pass.
Joe is a great teacher, he fills the room with excitement and adds humor to everything. You would need to hand in every week the lesson that is due, which is about 5-8 pages long (fairly easy since he goes over them during class). The only problem are the tests, they are pretty complected.
Awesome professor! Very animated and easy to talk with. Professor is very approachable and very passionate about his curriculum. His passion keeps you entertained and informed at the same time. Take Osborn's classes, they are great fun!
In my two years at Century, Joe Osborn was my favorite teacher! He is funny, loud, and very nice to talk to. I was already interested in Oceanography before I took the class, but he made it much more entertaining. His lectures are some of the best I've ever witnessed. Homework is fine. I recommend Osborn to everybody.
This is one of the best teachers I've had so far. He's clear in his expectations, fair and willing to help you outside of class. You can tell that he's actually passionate about teaching and the subject. He's always in a good mood too which makes gives the class a good atmosphere. Take his class!
Extremely talented.
Great teaching skills!
Fabulous teaching skills!
This is the best teacher I have ever had. Period. He will go out of his way to make sure you understand the material. He's quite goofy and eccentric within the class room, and it makes for awesome lectures. Take him if you get the chance, you won't regret it.
Best teacher I have had to date. Passionate about the subjects he teaches, extremely fair grading, and a overall great personality. Would take a course again with him even if I didn't need the course, enjoyed his class that much.
Great teachers!!! my favorite at century! Take anything he teaches, hes very intellegent and teaches very well, clear and understandable. I do not like science, but went every day and got an A. do your homework and study moderatly for tests and youll do great.
Cup of Joe in the Morning! Is the nickname that my buddy and I came up for him. Solid teaching skills and exciting! Want to learn stuff? Take him.
Superb instructor. His lectures are fast paced, but if you take notes and do all the homework getting a good grade is easy.
Joe is the best science teacher I have ever had. He makes a boring (in my opinion) topic become exciting! I highly recommend him!
Funniest. Guy. Ever. I really enjoyed taking his class. He's very clear, approachable, and friendly. He can get a little side-tracked in class, but that's not a bad thing. The class was very interesting, we had 4 exams, 3 of which are pretty easy to ace if you study for them. Didn't really read the textbook he assigned at all though.
Joe tries to entertain the class with his lectures which make them interesting but at times, he tries too hard. I feel he favored students who took his classes before. He does not like when students miss class (can be very short and condescending even when you tell him in advance). Also, due dates for lab exercises are only stated verbally in class
I have always disliked school, and I have only ever had one or two teachers that I found bearable. Joe Osborn is not only bearable, he is the best teacher I have ever had in my 14 years as a student. This guy walks on water. For the first time in my life, I actually found myself looking forward to going to class! Thanks Joe!
Joe is the happiest and funniest professor I have ever had!! He really cares about his students and is extremely helpful. He is really intelligent in the subject and loves his job. I enjoyed attending class and I learned a lot. As long as you do your hw and attend class you should receive an "A" :)
Wow, Awesome teacher and we all know that most of Centurys' teachers suck. very reasonable guy. kinda of out there but you get used to him.
Great professor! Approachable and friendly! Definately enjoys what he teaches. Provides extra credit. Hmwk is out of the lab manual. 4 exams. Out of 4, there was one that was tough. Exams consist of matching, vocab and T/F. If I had to take another course I would take him. He uses PPTS for discussion & all info for exam is on those.
Awesome teacher! Knew a lot about what he was teaching and made the class fun! All of his exams where pretty easy, he goes over everything with you in class many times before the exam so you know what to expect! over all my favorite teacher so far at Century!
I just completed Intro to Oceanography and I wanted to let someone know what a gifted professor you have on staff. His lectures are informative and entertaining, he is highly skilled at making difficult material approachable and interesting. One of the best teachers I have ever had. I really appreciated the class. Thanks!
Intro to Oceanography was swell. The content was extremely interesting and detailed, and covered a wide variety of topics. Joe is a great guy and gives a good lecture, and his exams aren't terribly difficult if you come to class. My only complaint- the homework was a bound booklet of busywork. None of it was hard but it seemed unnecessary =/
Joe is just super. I've never met anyone like him - especially a teacher! He is so excited about the material and SO knowledgeable that it's pretty hard to go wrong in his class. He'll definitely keep you in your toes. The class was fun and I really enjoyed it and enjoyed having him as a professor. Is the class EASY? Heck no. But it's FUN! :)
One of the best instructors at Century. He makes learning fun and interesting; he's very helpful and clear on what he wants you to learn. A must take instructor! Only word of advice is don't buy the Earth Science text book, never used it and I made it out of the class with an A. Buy it if you know you will be missing a lot of class time.
Joe is the man! One of the best teachers I've had at Century. Really likes what he teaches, and will go out of the way to explain something to his students. He explains things very well, and is crazy when he does it, but in a good way. Also, if you go everyday you're guaranteed a good grade.
Joe is a great teacher! I took a 3 hour long night class and he often let us out early and kept the class alive and interesting even tho everyone was tired. I would recommend him to everyone. What you learn in the class is exactly what's on the tests, and if theirs something you don't understand he is easy to contact and get help from.
I took him for Intro to Oceanography this semester. Hes an amazing teacher! full of life and very eccentric! Hands down- the best teacher ive ever had! it wasnt an easy class, but it was so fun!! definitely worth it!
Energetic to be sure. Overall, a good teacher. The class is pretty boring itself IMO, 3 hours of lecture from PowerPoint, pretty much every night, with an occasional short clip thrown in. If you have no interest in the sciences I would not advise taking this class.
Best professor I've ever had. Nobody has been so friendly and fair as Joe. He makes learning fun and he makes you feel very comfortable in class. Tests aren't easy but he tells you exactly what you need to know!
Great Teacher.
Joe makes learning interesting and fun. He likes to give humorous analogies that help you remember what he is teaching. I highly recommend Intro to Oceanog. because there is a lot of interesting stuff to learn about the only planet we have to live on.
The Most Interesting Man in Energy. He keeps the class fun and exciting. Only reason I rated the instructor less than all 5s is that he could have used the text book a little more.
You use your lab manual for everything. I've never once looked at the big text book that we had to buy. But apparently he hints at it near the end of the semester. Every day was fun and he jokes around all day. He broke a few meter sticks and did cartwheels just for the hell of it. He's super cool. But the two weeks was intense. Stay focused.
The man, the myth, the legend - the one and only Mr. Joe Osborn! Joe is a top quality, one of a kind professor at Century. His teaching style is second to none. Oceanography class itself was good to go; very interesting, learned a lot, and not overly difficult. Take Joe, with confidence, for any class he teaches. You won't regret it.
Great teacher and very fun, can not be stressed enough how energetic this guy is! always jumping around making jokes. I'm not sure where he gets his energy but he will always make class enjoyable. He is extremely dedicated to his students always staying after for anyone that needs help. he is always asking for people to stay after to better prepare
GREAT TEACHER!! i loved his class! Earth science was difficult but he made it attainable, he also understands how difficult it can be remembering everything so he makes an extra effort to help every student that asks for it, he also gives out plenty of extra credit that will help out a ton! he is a very energetic teacher! never a boring class.
Joe is one of my favorite teachers ever! He is very funny and obnoxious but a great teacher. You will definitely need to put in major study time but he and his tutors are always available to help. You will not regret taking this class, especially because the labs are just assignments on paper. Dont need textbook.
Joe is as advertised in the comments on here. His lectures always made sense, and assignments were usually pretty straightforward.... very flexible teacher in terms of working with you.
Professor takes pride in what he is teaching. Give great perspective about topics. Teaches to every type of learner. Super enthusiastic about being present and working hard! Made you want to come to class! The lectures and labs and textbook was a must! Fast paced summer class but, completely prepared us to expect work and ask for help!!
He is just awesome! Energetic, clear, hilarious. He also knows how to teach the subject in a way that even the most dummy will get it with just a reviews of the material at home. Relax, enjoy, and ask questions if you need! Tests might be hard but just make sure you understand the main concepts, also hw is time consuming but easy. HAPPY FRIDAY!!
I had a morning class with him and it made it worth coming! He is so hilarious and very excited to be teaching you. If you need help he will explain it all and be very clear about it. He's also a good guy!
Joe is a great teacher. Although Earth Science isn't really my thing, he makes the class enjoyable. He's very clear and good at teaching. There is some homework, but it was very helpful to understanding the class. Very easy A, would highly recommend. I didn't even touch the textbook, but you will need a workbook.
Homework and tests are tough but you could get A's without even showing up, HOWEVER, he's super funny and knows what he's talking about, so I usually showed up. Homework is minimal and there's about 4-5 tests, but you have to study for them to get even a B. There is extra credit as well.
Super goofey, high energy guy. Never felt bored in class, gave great lectures. The last few tests were somewhat difficult, but I got 95%-100% on all of them. As long as you go over lecture notes a couple of times and read the chapter I think his class is an easy A. Gives extra credit as well. I Would highly recommend taking a class with Joe.
If you show up for Lab, participate, and do the weekly group assignment, you'll pass with an easy A. This course was a 3 hour lecture but it felt more like 6. His tests were extremely hard but his grading wasn't too bad. If you do all the assignments and extra credit, you should do well. Class is alright but Joe is AWESOME!
First of all, Science is just not my thing. I took his Energy Concepts class and surprisingly got a B! He is very willing to help and his door is always open. I definitely recommend taking good notes and ask questions if you're confused. He does a really nice job with making science "fun". Overall-- great professor
Joe is an awesome professor! He makes earth science super interesting and fun. He wants the best for his students, so he's always willing to help if you have questions or want further understanding. He talks super fast so Study! Study! Study! And go to class! His exams/tests are no joke!
Joe is awesome! He truely enjoys what he is teaching and does a great job ensuring that the students enjoy learning. If you do the homework and ask questions you'll be fine. Gives you all the answers as he lectures. I wouldn't buy the textbook, only the lab book.
Super fun teacher, makes you interested in oceanography even if it's not your thing
Awesome instructor
Joe is by far one of the most fantastic people EVER. His class is always interesting and fun and he gets straight to the point of what you need to know to do well on his tests/quizzes. Haven't touched the big textbook once but the small work book is extremely needed. You don't NEED to show up to do well, but I suggest you should.
Joe is THE best professor i've had at Century. I never once touched the big textbook but you must get the lab book. That is 96% of all your assignments. I've missed a couple days here and there but still getting everything done on time and doing well on the tests. Everything is in D2l. But if you go to class, he WILL point out whats on his test.
Joe is a fantastic teacher! He is extremely passionate and knowledgeable about the stuff he's teaching. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he makes you not want to miss class. Didn't really need the text book at all. Pay attention and work for it and you'll do fine. Great class, great professor!
Prof, Osborn is one of the best and more enthusiastic teachers you'll have. Although he is funny and loud, it doesn't get in the way of his teaching. You'll learn if you apply yourself, and he'll help how ever much he can if you just ask. Would recommend to everyone!
Enthusiasm for days! He made lectures fun and informative. Studyingmust. Attendancebest 2 ur ability, otherwise email him! Offers extra credit 2 go 2 a park w/ classmates for a guided observation, helps a ton & is beautiful. Linked all topics to every1 in some way, which was also a learning tool. Tests are tough, flash cards are the way to go!
He is extremely charismatic, and it is a class that is enjoyable, even if you do not prefer the sciences. I would totally take it again. He makes school seem like fun!
Very hyperactive, funny, and loud. Swears in his lectures. It will be easy if you like and understands science/natural disasters. Will be challenging if you don't.
Joe is awesome! Enjoyed attending his class. if you don't show up you are going to struggle! Lectures can get a bit long but he makes them fun. I would take this class again. If you put in effort towards this class you will be rewarded, if not you will struggle immensely .
He is one of the best professors I have had in a long time. He is full of energy, loud, there was even a little bit of cursing but he made this class so interesting. You can tell that he loves what he does and wants the students to love the class as well. The tests were not easy but he goes over what is going to be on the tests and finals.
Joe is absolutely hysterical, but he's very lecture heavy (although he puts his powerpoints online for you to review. Homework is critical to passing his class, and the homework itself is pretty easy (except you need to be in class to get the homework). Joe is also super accommodating though so you shouldn't have too tough of a time.
Great teacher. Very helpful as well. It is a hard class at times. Participate and show up.
If you fall asleep in this class, I applaud you because this guy's voice is so loud that I wouldn't be able to nap even if I tried. Good thing though because he makes you attentive even when you don't want to be. He explains science in an easy and understandable way. His tests can be hard but you just gotta show up to class and do the work.
Joe is a great guy! I would take his class again because he's know what he's talking about. Didn't use the textbook but an awesome addition for learning material. Test can be difficult but he's more than willing to go over them with you. Show up to class because he'll give you homework answers!!
Joe is great! He's very nice and makes earth science very easy to understand. He's very energetic (if you are sensitive to swearing, be aware that he does occasionally curse) and his instructions are clear. The only problem is that if you don't show up to class, you won't pass. He doesn't take attendance but his lectures are essential for the tests
I will say this. Joe is an excellent professor and he is very energetic in his lectures. Hilarious and keeps you entertained. Its definitely a tough course and I honestly wouldnt be surprised if I failed but I would definitely take the class with him again. Just learn to take good notes and you should be good.
Would recommend. He makes this class really fun to learn (even though it's tough). He will spoon feed you the answers, you just need to listen! Even If I failed that class, I would take it again just because Joe made it a lot of fun.
Joe was one of my favorite profs this year. His personality is AWESOME! He makes science really interesting and his lectures are both educational AND entertaining! However, the class itself was very challenging. Make sure you come to class and take TONS of notes. I would have failed without the class tutor, so make sure to see him for extra help!
Joe was one of my favorite professors I've ever had! He makes his lectures fun, yet straight to the point. I truly appreciated his humor throughout the semester as well. Just do your homework and attend class and you will succeed in his class.
Joe gives lots of homework and you have to be in class to pass. It is not an "Easy A" but it is worth it and Joe is a great instructor. He is very loud so its hard not to pay attention. He is really funny and easy to talk to. If you don't understand something he will talk you through it. Joe was awesome!
Joe is one of the best professors I've ever had. I took him for Natural Disasters. He really cares about his students. It also helps that the course content is interesting and Joe is HILARIOUS. You're never gonna doze off in his class. You get an easy assignment maybe once a week. Nothing too crazy, and exams are pretty straightforward. TAKE HIM.
Professor Osborn was really unorganized and would "forget to post" assignments and give us two days to do a 15 page lab manual with no textbook. He wrote his own lab manual and didn't get enough copies for students to purchase so he scanned the assignments in for us to print but not the information or the content in the book part. It was so hard!
I think Mr. Osborn kind of gave up during this covid season. Like other classes this year, it was mostly based on your will and strength of self teaching. No zoom, only office hours. Gave you a new criteria every week. If you rely on in-class teaching, don't take his classes during pandemics.
There were no video or live lectures but there were power points that you could look at. I basically taught myself the entire course from the book and PowerPoints. Also the final is 25% of your grade, and most of the rest of it comes from other tests. I definitely would not recommend taking him online.
To all of those below who are complaining, what did you expect during this time of COVID. Get a grip on reality and realize you are not the only ones who have been inconvenienced during this pandemic. I think Prof. Osborn did as good as anyone could be expected during this crazy time. I was always able to get help, all I had to do was ask!!!
It is clear Professor Osborn has completely given up on teaching remotely. Lab manual is your only source of learning and there is really no teaching done at all by the professor. I've had to wait several days for an email response to a simple question. While it's not super difficult, this class is super frustrating and not worth the time or money.
Joe has been my favorite professor so far. This class was challenging, and he was super helpful and always willing to help. He explained things easy and clear. You can tell that he cared about what I was learning. I wish I could have him for all of my classes. Thank you Joe for everything you have helped me with! You are the best!
Great professor, makes the material easy to understand. Did lectures every day, but I enjoy that. Tests are super easy if youve been paying attention in class and study a little. However, he did talk politics fairly often and took his mask off every class.
Joe is very energetic, so if you don't like teachers that are very loud, don't take him. If you don't come to class almost every day, you likely won't pass. Also, be sure to make a friend or two that can take notes for you if you ever miss a day. Office hours were a huge help and Joe's class is usually open to use
If you skip lectures you will not pass. Joe makes lectures very entertaining so I actually looked forward to going to class. You can usually find him after class if you need help. He gives the answers to the tests out during lectures so you will pass if you pay attention.
Best teacher I've ever had. Joe is super funny and flexible, always had lots of energy to make boring parts fun. Super interesting class as well. Make sure to take notes and sit near the front and you'll get an A. He makes it clear the first day that showing up to class is a MUST to do well. Tests aren't too hard. Take this class!
Joe is funny and has great lectures. He is always willing to help with any questions you might have. He says you "need a textbook" he never had us use or open it, I recommend saving the money. The class itself was okay, if you are looking for an easy science credit this probably isn't the class for you.
I took Earth Science with Mr. Osborn over the summer. This class was 8 weeks long, so attendance is extremely important. There was an optional textbook and a required lab manual. I did not purchase the textbook because he covers most of the material in class. He lectures the entire time, but keeps you interested (and awake).
As long as you come to class and participate, you will pass. He is very understanding and always willing to help students understand the topics of the homework. His homework is not hard. His exams are bit tougher. He is very energetic, ready to go, and helpful. As someone who has trouble with Science, I strongly recommend him.
Joe is a very engaging teacher which is rare to find. If every professor had this skill master as Joe does, school in general would be much more fun. Highly recommend.
I took as many classes with Joe as I could and he is by far the best professor I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. Joe always comes to class prepared, energetic, and ready to teach! He encourages conversation during class, and is always more than willing to help if you don't understand a certain topic or homework problem.
Attendance doesn't matter but it will affect if you fail or not. If you miss a class day you will continue to fall behind. The lectures are online and you can go over and learn stuff by yourself but it will be a lot harder. Also, you won't know when to turn in homework. The lectures can get boring but he does his best to make it entertaining.
Labs were always due the day of exams so there was no way of knowing whether or not you were doing something wrong before being tested on it. Grading system was often unclear. Lab manual was written by him so if you didn't understand the way he explained something in class, it was no help. Weirdly vocal about climate change being "exaggerated."
Easily one of the best professors I have ever had! Engaging and caring with students, but also very funny in class. I would highly recommend Professor Osborn, and I usually don't like science courses!
He is one of the best teachers at Century hands down, he teaches in a way that's extremely memorable and helps you on the tests. He's super quirky and a total oddball. He's very passionate about what he teaches. but if you're looking for a class to cruise through and get an easy A don't take his class.
If you show up everyday there is no possible way to not pass. He is so fun and entertaining. If you need to take a lab class, TAKE THIS ONE!!
Joe is an excellent professor that is full of energy and makes his lectures interesting. Joe knows his material well and gets his students engaged in learning. The grading is very fair because assignments and tests are equally weighted and there are extra credit opportunities to boost your grade. Attending class is mandatory for passing.
Prof Osborn was a very thorough instructor. New his content and made it fun to learn. Would recommend for science classes, particularly lab classes. Lots of hands-on stuff which kept it interesting. Attendance is not required, but this is an in-person class and there is lots of in-person activities.
Very personable and his lectures are unlikely to put you to sleep. Gave plenty of opportunities for extra credit. Homework is not too demanding and you probably don't need to study too hard for tests if you take notes and pay attention during lectures. Not a class where you will be stressed about your grade if you engage with the lectures.
Was my favorite professor so far! Very passionate about the subject AND cares about everyone success within the class. Being present in every lecture is important if you want to pass the exams/quizzes. Overall, great professor and class!
On the first day of natural disasters, he began a rant about climate change not being as bad as it seems. I dropped it, because a natural disasters course that dismisses climate change's impact on them is incomplete. Very irresponsible. He seemed like a fine teacher, and I liked his teaching style, but I wouldn't recommend this course to anyone.
One of the worst professors I have had the privilege of taking at Century College. I do not know why his rating here is so high because he is the worst at teaching. Not only that, he assigns homework like there's no tomorrow and expects you to know it like a pro. I would not recommend him or any course he is teaching to anyone.
He is very nice and funny, maybe a little loud when you first go to his class. He often gives you some of the questions from the tests for you. I didn't struggle on many of the tests in his class except for the rocks and minerals tests. The class is VERY lecture heavy for some units, so it's hard for me to sit through the lectures for 2.5 hours.
Professor Osborn is energetic and engaging, but attendance is key. Use Unstuck AI, study groups, and office hours to succeed in this fun, non-textbook class.
Homework packets can be intimidating, but it's all easy IF YOU SHOW UP TO CLASS. Wanna do well? SHOW UP. Don't be like me with a C in a class you love. Joe is my fav prof so far. Real good energy, hilarious, a bit of a yapper & he knows it but its all chill:) Joe loves Petrology, Type O Negative, and showing off his box of agates on his desk lol
I loved prof. Osborn! I took intro to oceanography as a senior in HS before going to get my BS in Marine Bio, and i feel like the class set me up really well. My only complaint is that he doesn't really believe in climate change... but we all have our own opinions! :) He was super enthusiastic about teaching which was great!!
