He is a great teacher. Just don't miss any class! It's hard to catch up. If you grasp concepts better with a different style of explanation, this is your guy. Don't think the class is easy, though, and don't expect him to be a pushover just because he's nice. Go in it wanting to learn and you will!

He is the best professor you will ever have. He makes everyone love Bio again. His lectures on on overhead and his pictures help greatly. He just has so much energy when he lectures so it is never boring. His labs are fun and get to the point. The projects are fun. He's not bad to look at neither!!!

He is a great professor, you have to study a lot for his tests, because there is so much information. He has quizzes every monday for lab and lecture. His tests are all essays. His labs are very boring, no dissections at all.

Known as the Professor of the Year 2005 at Bakersfield College. His BIOB3b class is the best course I've ever taken in BC. Even though it's hard, you'll learn to love it coz he makes it so interesting. His tests are in essay form and take note of this, memorizing his notes won't help you gain an A

Dr. Joe is passionate about what he knows & eager to help you understand things the way he does. Class is very interesting, though you have to work hard. Makes lab & lecture very interactive; but, no dissections. Great Prof., but makes you tow the line. Also very organized; Wish they all were. Thx!

Study for the quizes they add up. He can be tough, but he's fair, fun, helpful if you have trbl, & a damned good teacher!

You will wish lectures were longer. He is very funny and has a great sence of humor. He will explain the same thing over and over untill every student understands. He is very tough grader. On your tests make sure to draw pics and diagrams to back up your answer. If you have problems just talk to him he is full of useful info.

One of the best teachers I've ever had. Achieves the hallmark of teaching: he makes you interested in the subject material. Lecctures are helpful and informative, they are also by far the most entertaining. Field trips are optional but worth it if you do have the time. Tests are comprehensive but pay attention to the lectures and the're no problem.

dr. joe made bio fun and interesting. one of the best professors at this school. His lectures are interesting and never are boring. His exams are essays, but if you go to class and UNDERSTAND his lecture notes, you'll be fine. He is willing to help and don't be afraid to ask questions. Take is summer school class. It was way easy.

Dr. Joe is GREAT. If you read your lecture notes and understand the materal you can pass the tests. Make drawings and diagrams!! He made Bio very interesting. Lab is also fun.

Extremely difficult class that requires a diligent study habit to acquire an A. Although the class was hard, he is the best teacher. Biology has once again become interesting. Understand what he is talking about and you'll do fine.

If you're looking for an easy A. This is not the class or the teacher for you! He's not easy but he's one of the best teachers at BC. Very dinamic, funny, and creative with his teaching techniques. He's very helpful if you are willing to ask for help. I wish there were more teachers like him.

The best teacher I've ever had! You don't have to come to class, but you won't want to miss even one! It's fun and a great learning experience. If your going to be a teacher you can't miss his class, it will give you hope that you will enjoy your job. He loves teaching and it shows in his class.

Dr. Joe is awesome! I re-took the class and got a B. The only thing I did different was Paid Attention! Take the notes, be on time for class, and pay attention to the lecture.

Dr. Joe is a fantastic teacher. he is clear with the material and in what he expects. to get an A you must do the work. his tests are not that hard. they are essey format(more like short answer). he is very very nice and make biology a blast!!! if you have the oportunity to take him take it!! you wont regret it. Don’t miss out on the Dr. Joe experience. He is a great teacher, very fun, and loves biology. All you have to do is show up take notes and take advantage of his office hours he is there for you. The work load is not bad and you have a blast. Take Dr. Joe!!!

Mr. Saldivar is an awesome teacher as long as you take notes and really pay attention you will have no problem. Go to his office hours ask questions that are unclear or you will regret it.

Dr. Joe is awesome! Just go to class, take notes off of his lectures, do well on the labs, do well on the projects and you WILL get an A! his tests can be tricky sometimes. His lectures are really fun and entertaining. He is really clear and easy to follow. His quizzes are pretty simple. His trips are really fun. Take Dr. Joe!

Dr. Joe is AWESOME! After having Prof Kelly I was kind of scared to take the next bio class. Dr. Joe made this class so much fun. I enjoyed everyday. Very funny guy. Dr. Joe knows his stuff and explains it in an easy way. As long as you understand what you're doing in lab and take good notes in lecture you'll be fine. Wish he taught all bio classes

Professor Salidivar is the best there is. He made Biology soo much fun and so interesting i still remember what i learned... I would really really recommend this class.

I really enjoyed Dr. Joe's class. He is really enthusiastic about the subject he teaches, and the labs were really fun. The class was pretty easy, BUT I failed to turn in one major assignment, and it dropped my grade down a letter grade.

My favorite class at BC. he is a very good teacher that knows wat u need to do to get into med school. He offers a lot of opportunities to enhance your resume like research. His tests are tough, but not impossible. 9 A's my semester says that he was a fairly straightforward teacher.go to his office hours, he is helpful beyond belief

GO TO CLASS!!! Science has been the most difficult subject for me. However, Dr. Joe is an amazing teacher and is always willing to help!!!! Do what is required and you will pass! If you don't try, u will fail. His tests are easy for those who study and impossible for those who don't pay attention and don't study!

He is a great teacher but his tests are killer. ALWAYS ask tons of questions and grill him about the subject. The more you ask, the better you'll be in the class. His tests are all conceptual, they arent like bio 3a. If you just study the notes you might get a C on tests. You HAVE to understand the subject inside and out to do well in his class.

Dr. Joe is a good professor. He's a funny guy, enthusiastic about his subject, and really nice. His field trips are also great. His exams on the other hand are pretty tough. You can't memorize the stuff, you have to really know it. I am not a biology guy, so this class was really tough for me. Ask him questions and visit his office hours!

Imposible to get an A in his class. If you're lucky maybe you can get a C, but don't expect more. He grades really hard and his tests are confusing and horrible! So, if you need to pass with a grade B or A DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS because you will just stress yourself. However, if you want to have fun take his class, he's fun and REALLY goofy.

Prof. Saldivar is the best! This class is overall simple and straight forward. Class assingments, projects, and the Lab Exam are fairly simple.Study for the small quizes and read the Edell book, because the quizes are a piece of cake if you take my word for it. He is amazing. His class was straightforward, if you apply yourself and LEARN not memorize an A is a piece of cake. He is by far the best teacher on campus. I love love love Dr. Joe. Read Edell and go over the notes for 20 mins a night and you'll be fine. Field trips are awesome!!! Plus, you don't need the text book, tests based on notes.

Dr. Joe is by far the best educator I have experienced at B.C. He understands that his course is a gen ed requirement and that many people struggle with the concepts. His lectures and labs are interesting. He makes the material relate-able and interesting with humor and pop-culture. HE CARES ABOUT HIS STUDENTS SUCCESS! He is always willing to help.

SCIENCE WAS NEVER MY THING! I WALKED IN THINKING IT WAS GOING TO BE THE HARDEST CLASS BUT HIS TEACHING STYLE IS SO MUCH FUN! UNDERSTAND THE SUBJECT DONT MEMORIZE AND YOU WILL DO FINE ON THE EXAMS! FINAL IS OPTIONAL. NO NEED TO BUY THE BOOK. GRADES ON A POINT SCALE SYSTEM.

Seemed really nice and a great teacher, I will defiantly sign up for his class later because I was on the waitlist and couldn't get it. He seems amazing but if you wana get in you better be enrolled before trying to get in off waitlist

This was my favorite class to attend this semester because his lectures are always hilarious and informative. There are lots of quizzes in his class, but only the Hela ones are sometimes ridiculous to answer. The exams are a pain. Whatever lecture notes you get, take those and go elsewhere to find DEEP information on how to apply them.

he is super hot and super entertaining!my favorite professor in BC ever!the class is VERY HARD! i got a B,and i study really hard for this class, i spent almost every weekend for this class!You have to study a lot, its Biology!He is a hard grader as well!Study for the little quizzes, 3 quizzes a week!The lab mannual is hard to finish too!exams too.

Professor Saldivar is a wonder Biology B11 teacher. I got an A+ in the class and didnt really have to work that hard because his lectures were soo good and he only tests on his lecture notes, which you can copy word for word during lecture. He will make Biology interesting and fun. Visit him during office hours and he will help you. Best professor.

This is by far the greatest professor I have ever had. He quite literally changed my life. He is passionate and very knowledgeable. The class is challenging, but if you are passionate about bio, listen to Dr. Joe, he can teach you a lot. If you are not looking to learn and be challenged, don't waste anyone's time- take a different professor.

Dr. Joe is one of the best professors if you have the drive to learn. Quizzes at the beginning of every lab and lecture so don't be late! Study for his tests, and answer the SLO's to study for the tests. If you are not a biology major, do NOT take this course. If you are lazy, do not take this professor. An excellent teacher with a great sense of humor. Very understanding but at the same time, pretty technical. His tests can potentially be tricky mainly due to critical thinking skills. Don't be late. Take down some good notes, and it might be one of the best classes you've ever took!

He is an absolutely great professor! One of the best classes I've ever taken. The labs and quizzes are very easy. However, the test are where you lose the most points. As long as you study hard you'll be fine.

Dr. Joe is an amazing and funny teacher however I made the mistake of taking the class in the summer which went by so quickly. The exams had too much weight and impact on your overall grade. It is a great class and the field trips are fun. Take notes but learn the material inside and out. Don't take the class in the summer. Take studying seriously.

Dr. Joe is one of the best bio professors I've had. He makes lectures interesting and they are easy to follow. Does go off on tangents that kinda comes back to the point. Labs and Quizzes are easy points. Tests are half multiple choice and half essay. Don't forget to study for the multiple choice which is where you lose the most points.

Dr. Joe is seriously amazing! His lectures are in depth, and if you don't understand he has no problem explaining it to you further. If you're struggling he tries to help you out, and he is so approachable even for office hours. He is very knowledgeable, and his class may be difficult but if you do well in his class, you'll do well in others.

Dr. Joe is one of the most caring teachers I've had. He would personally talk to you about anything. You would have to read 2 books throughout the entire semester. There is a 5 question comprehension quiz on the books at the beginning of every session. Every session consists of an extremely entertaining lecture. There is 3 exams and a final exam.

Best professor I have ever had. His exams are based on his lectures so take detailed notes. Lab exams are easier than his lecture exams. Make sure to earn every point possible on his quizzes, labs, and projects as they are worth a large portion of your grade. His exams force you to truly understand the material rather than just memorizing it.

Dr. Joe was an amazing professor who helped me understand science the way my high school teachers couldn't. His lectures are very long and informative, but he keeps you laughing and engaged. He's happy to help (when you ask for it), and he treats everyone with respect. His essay questions are tough, but studying will help you IMMENSELY.

Dr. Joe was my lecture professor, and although I didn't have him for lab, I heard he was great. He is a high energy lecturer so class is never boring, and he is very accessible and is available to answer all questions. Quizzes every class, but they're stupidly easy. Just take good notes and you'll pass with AT LEAST a B.

Requires the reading of 2 very uninteresting books that you get quizzed on every class period. Grades very tough, almost no one has a A and last semester no one in his class did either. No curve miss 250 points out of 2500 total and you cant get an A. As a person hes likeable but when I comes to grading hes very unforgiving on tests.

Im not a fan of science, but I took B11 in the summer and it was probably the best class I've ever taken. He is super interactive and wants to help. Dont be afraid to see him in his office hours. As long as you do the homework and study for the exams you should be fine.

One of the best professors I have had so far. He's caring, funny, and knowledgeable. But! you have to work for the grade you want. There are projects, weekly quizzes, labs, and his tests are hard and a lot of points. Make study groups and ask questions! Literally go to him and ask for help on labs. Book isn't really needed. his exams are the only thing you have to worry about in this class. labs are pretty easy and book quizzes tended to be as well. you have to read 2 books and take quizzes every week on a chapter, its not hard but reading can be time consuming. i rec to underline any unique fact in the book reading bc likely it will be a question.

the labs and reading quizzes are pretty easy. However, the struggle you will find is the exams. That being said, he is very available and willing to coach you through everything, utilize his office hours and email. Don't even think about skipping class, you will not pass. His passion for teaching really shows in his enthusiastic approach towards lectures which sparked enough curiosity in me to find my own love for learning. My advice to incoming students would be to take the time to truly understand the material, don't simply memorize it.

I will probably never have another class or teacher like Dr.Joe. I was amazed by professor's Saldivar self-awareness. He knew that this class was basically an introduction to biology, and he did amazing in explaining to students basic methods, and terms in biology. Saldivar is great for those who are willing to learn by reading the material and doing the job.

He is an amazing professor. sometime he will share answers which might be in the exam or in the weekly quizzes though the answers comes in the form of a question. All you have to do is understand what is he teaching you and understand the materials. he is very friendly and tries to help however he can. I would highly recommend him for the courses.

Great, funny, genuine & caring professor. LECTURES: ask questions if you're confused. Memorize & understand notes. QUIZZES: reread chapters the morning of quiz days, will be asked for small details you may have missed. TESTS: don't write an essay in essay portion, keep it short and to the point, you give too much or too little you will be docked.

Funny and willing to help, however one of the hardest professors I've ever had. Tests are HARD and he is a tough grader. Grading criteria is fair and just. PAL tutors were unhelpful and provided incorrect info, it is best to see Dr. Joe in person for any questions. The daily reading quizzes and projects are easy and helped balance the exam grade.

Dr. Joe is a great professor and person. He teaches the subject very fluently, however he is a tough grader when it comes to exams. This class is the only class I'd emphasize studying at least 5 times a week. Visiting his office hours can be very helpful, but I'd definitely not take more than 3 courses including this class if you want to pass!

Great guy, he was always more than willing to offer any kind of life advice along with studying tips. He is very throrough with his grading, and a LOT of people failed. If you want to challenge yourself and actually learn, I recommend his class. Study your notes and the SLOs very thoroughly before exams and start studying a few days in advance.

I would always be excited to go to his lectures because of his fun energy and cool stories he would tell. Attendance isn't mandatory but he doesn't post lectures online so if you want to pass, go to the lectures!! Labs were usually fun and quick. He grades based off of you're understanding, so like on exams there's a lot of free response questions.

It is an invaluable skill to hone and I appreciate Dr. Joe's teaching approach that focuses on critical thinking.
