He's a really nice teacher. Very helpfull. the night before the exams he opens a chat room for 2 hrs in case we have any questions.
He is a nice Teacher and wants students to succeed but does a lousy job at teaching the material. all he does is read the ppt slides... Also for the level of difficulty of the class he should workout more problems than he actually does. Very Nice Guy but BAD teacher :( take someone else unless you want to teach yourself.
Great teacher! The class is hard enough but he is willing to stay after class and extend office hours and sends helpful reminders and emails. I have emailed him and he responds within the day. Most UH teachers do not! Take Him
He is a very helpful guy and his reviews are basically the exam more or less... would strongly recommend him for this class!
Very helpful professor. If you study the material, especially the problems that you go over in class, you will do very good. Very detailed in explanation if you need additional tutoring time.
He is very helpful, but the material is extremely hard. 2 exams and 1 final that covers ch1-15. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it's helpful if you attend. Book is painful to read. Don't procrastinate or fall behind because it will be hard to catch up. Overall, this course is tough and the professor did all that he could.
Very helpful Professor who really knows his stuff. I enjoyed his class and would strongly recommend him to those who really want to learn.
Professor Seltz is a super nice guy, unfortunately he reads off of the powerpoint slides a little too much. I just wish he would go through the examples more thoroughly. Mostly though, Intermediate accounting is really tough as it is, no matter who you have.
it is probably best to read off the book. It is also kind of hard to pay attention in class:/
Dr. Seltz is boring and reads straight from the slides and adds little to whatever PPT he has. This class is basically useless and you have to teach yourself. He is bad with clickers and wastes lot's of class time.
My dad taught me not to say anything if I didn't have anything nice to say...but he's not reading this. THIS PROFF IS NOT A GOOD TEACHER. He wastes WAY too much time asking questions & waiting for the answers-if no one knows he will continue to wait & say he has all day. Reads from PP & does not give review sheets-just reviews the class before exam
I know that sometimes people read reviews and think "Oh he cant be that bad, these people must just be harsh." this is not one of those times. He is a really bad teacher. You can take him for managerial and teach yourself, but for intermediate you will fail. He is super boring, makes corny examples, and u r paying to teach yourself, i promise!
Class is boring to the extreme. Your book is your lifeline because that's what you will learn from. If you take this class just be prepared to teach yourself. Maybe he'll change next semester but who knows, I wouldn't take the chance though.
He does not know how to teach. All he does is read from the power point. He will no do any practice problems in class. You have to teach yourself. Intermediate is a very very hard class, take it with someone else. Accounting cannot be learnt solely through power point presentations. Take Kilic or some other professor. NOT SELTZ, u'll cry later.
Mr. Seltz is a really nice guy,but Terrible teacher. If you have a good handle on accounting before the class you can make it. If I were you and had to take him, find out when Harris teaches the class and sit in her classes. She is a much better teacher. He never really goes over examples, Harris does! Go with HARRIS!!
Worst professor ever! Doesn't know how to teach at all. Reads straight from slides. Do not take Seltz the average grade on the test was a very low C and that's with a 10 point curve. Over 100 students got below a 50!
Level of teaching is not up to the level of requirements on exams. Gives 2.5-3 hr exams and 95% of class is still there until the end. Goes over ppoints in class, which you can do at home, then try to teach yourself. Started with around 65 students and only 12 remained after the 2nd exam. Class average is a low C, not a pretty GPA even if you pass
Seltz is a really nice guy but he's not the most interesting professor. To succeed in this class, you have to teach yourself and read everything prior to the lecture because he expects you to have read the material. He reads straight off the slides. Basically he wants you to be independent.
Seltz is really nice. He won't go over material if he figures you understand it, but if you don't you better ask! He's way less scarier to ask than Harris. & he will walk you through until you understand! His example ?s in class prepare you more for the exam than the book. Exam ?s are tricky & he gives almost the exact questions/format in class!
Before every exam, Seltz gives out 10-15 problems in the textbook to work. Those are going to be pretty much the exam questions with a slight twist and different numbers. Do well on the projects and homework, they equate to a test grade (25% of course grade). All I did was study the whole day before the exam, 12pm to 2am and I got an A.
Seltz is a really nice and patient teacher. He isn't as great at teaching as Harris but at least he won't ridicule you for asking questions. He will give you examples before the test so make sure you study those! Also go over homework until you fully understand it! Do well on first few tests because they are the easiest. 5 Tests and a Final!
Dr. Seltz is nice as a person. For some reason I felt that the entire semester he was expecting the students to be really engaged. His questions were weird. He started calling people out. He was like mad inside and even started giving mini sermons on how we are gonna suck at life if we don't put in effort or start reading his 155 page documents.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!! He does not know how to teach. He reads off of slides (that he didn't even make). He gives examples but only verbally goes over it. If you are a visual learner you will not understand. Had to try to teacher myself. Tutors are useless as well. I suggest finding a different teacher.
Please, I beg you, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. By now you have some experience with accounting classes. Ask your self, do you want to learn accounting from verbally from power point slides without any kind of visual calculations on the board? It's Intermediate 1 Accounting! TRUST ME!
If u wanna go to a totally irrelevant class, listen to weird questions, hear scary stories, and teach urself accounting at home after u fail ur 1st midterm, take him!
I choose Dr. Seltz's class in my first semester. He is professional! His PPT sides cover every things of the textbook. I review the PPT before the class, and then use textbook as reinforce, and get a A! He is very glad to help student, so just ask him if you don't understand! His lecture is very clear. Review is important as he said at very begin!
This class is great especially if you have an interest in accounting. Clickers are used so attending class is pretty important. The homework on MyAcctLab makes the material really clear. Professor Seltz really wants his students to understand the material so don't be afraid to answer questions in class.
Professor Seltz is a great teacher. He does not only teach you the book but also what goes beyond the logic. I appreciate his real life stories. He does not write a lot of stuff on the board but he tells you the important things that you need to remember. As college students, we're old enough to take notes of what we consider important.
Dr Seltz is a well decorated professional in the accounting industry. He has over 20 years experience working with some of the top accounting firms and this helped a lot throughout the course as he related almost everything to real life practices. His slides cover a lot that is not covered in the book. Curves exams. This subject needs effort though
The course itself is an easy one but the professor is not good. He undermines his students, cannot hear very well, and asks a lot of questions you cannot possibly know the answer to. When asking these questions, he gets angry when you don't answer. Clickers every class. Do NOT take. If you must take, go to class for clickers but study powerpoints.
GREAT!
I decided to pursue audit as my future career because of professor Seltz and the course he taught-advanced accounting. He responds emails very quick. He concerns about his students. One of the best professors I have ever seen. Highly recommend to take his courses.
Dr. Seltz is a good teacher who wants you to understand the material well. He answers questions in class or email(prompt). He expects you to take initiative and do most examples and homework on your own, and then ask questions; this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Challenging material, but I got an A. Understand the concepts and assigned problems.
Take Professor Seltz for Intermediate, he is there to help you and makes the material easy for you to understand. He doesn't over complicate the chapters and tells you ahead of time what you need to know for the quizzes and exams. Make sure to go to class and do the problems in the book.
Main focus was to teach concepts, which is helpful in order to do well in problems.
Professor is very knowledgeable and very helpful. He responds to questions or concerns very quickly. No textbook -- so I recommend you showing up to classes (although he does not take attendance). Would take him again!
Grad class, students are professional, the expectations are clear, it is up to you to do the work and stay current. Lots of material is covered by assignments, study guides and lectures help you to focus on the material you need to understand in order to earn an A.
Nice professor that really tries to help students understand the material. Class and material is easy. The main thing with Seltz is that he does not write enough problems on the board. Visual learners will have a hard time. If you listen to him as he walkstalks you through the problems you should be okay. Ask questions he will help!
Professor Seltz is an awesome teacher. Unlike Harris where she treats you like a kid and the materials she puts on the study guide really don't help you , everything in this class from quizzes and HW is on the test, so make sure you understand them! I like a class thats straight forward and not alot of hocus pocus like Frameworks is.
So boring and confusing!! Easy grader. Attendance not mandatory but there are in class quizzes.
I found lectures very helpful, because you won't have a textbook to rely on to prepare for the tests. If you listen professor carefully you will have an exact idea what will be on the test. Keep up with reading assignments, attend lectures and you will have an A. Quizzes are easy, based on the text you read. Professor always responds to your questi
This course does not require a textbook. All the required materials are posted online. Tests are not hard but you's better read assigned materials and take notes in class. Topics might be a lot but he is good at clarifying them. I like how he relates his experience to each topic. I recommend him and this course.
He's really a boring lecturer, wish he wasn't so monotone. If you ask for help from him, he answers it but makes you feel stupid about asking in the first place. I would skip class all the time if the clickers weren't necessary.
I took him for my first semester with no choice left, and I wouldn't take him again ever and ever. He went over everything so fast including the powerpoint and class problems. He got mad when he asked questions and no one could answer. Clicker questions were quite hard sometimes. There were 3 tests, 1 project (which was easy) and 12 online HWs.
Professor Seltz is well-prepared to class. He will provide you with all the documents you need to be successful in this class.
I would highly recommend Professor Seltz. Advanced audit contains a lot of material (with no book), however, he breaks it down and emphasizes the important parts. You can do well on exams as long as you read & understand the material. He provides a good review before each exam. He has great experience in the field and that reflects in his teaching.
As Professor Seltz once said, If you put in the effort to learn, he will put in the effort to help you. Managerial accounting is a tough course, but Professor Seltz explains certain concepts with clarity and would help if you ask questions. He gives real life examples and is always there to answer any questions. Great professor.
Honestly this class is so hard. If you don't need to class stay away. I am a math major who thought accounting would be interesting, I was wrong. Seltz is nice but you end up teaching yourself from the book. The book is your only hope.
I took Prof. Seltz for Managerial acctg in spring 2014. He does not write or work out problems on the board but he explains how to get the numbers. He teaches everything there is to know about the class and real life applications. I wouldn't say he's an easy A but you work for your grades. I wish he'd teach a higher acctg class like advanced acctg.
Seltz is a good teacher. He does explain things pretty well and is kind of funny. Homework uses WileyPlus (Which is horrible), one project, and all of the tests are graded on a curve. Just make sure you do not try and get clicker points for another student. He will go off on that.
Alot of homework in this class. 3 tests, first one is worth the most. Just do the reviews and keep up with the homework and you'll be fine. In-class group assignments are probably the hardest part of this class, so pick a good group. Easy A if you keep up with all the work.
Seltz is a pretty straight-forward professor. If you listen to his lectures, the material is pretty direct. Make sure you do read the textbook because you will need it for homework. He is a great professor.
Very dry. Class was very boring. Didn't work out problems at all. Tests were completely different than in class work.
If you are planning on working in anything besides audit, do not take this class. I work in tax and thought it would be beneficial to take this class to get a little more understanding of audit for the CPA exam. Bad idea. He tells you to read the pdfs on blackboard prior to class then spends the class reading them and saying "blah blah blah" a lot.
Prof. Seltz is really knowledgeable! The class is easy if you attend class and participate in his lectures. He might be a little fast/unclear from time to time, so don't be afraid to ask! You can get an A if you put a reasonable amount of time to it
As for someone who knows no knowledge of accounting, his lectures are very confusing. He gets straight to the point and his handwriting is horrible when solving exercise problems. But at least you can go to the tutors and ask for help.
Class Not required for the degree plan or for the CPA exam. Took the class because I was interested in learning more about Audit. Very boring and he lectures for the duration of the class. He's a very qualified professor and has lots of experience but struggles to teach effectively. I would avoid taking this professor, I was disappointed.
He's a really nice guy. He goes very fast through lectures and you won't do well on homeworks/tests if you just rely on his lectures. You must do A LOT of work outside of class! I read the book, did all the extra problems, went to class, and did my homeworks/pre-readings and I got an A. Smartphones are NOT allowed in his class!!
Amazing professor. He really cares for his students. You just need to take the time to ask him questions and participate. Make sure you do your own clicker work he checks and is strict about that. Very straight forward and intelligent teacher. I made a 100 in the class (after curves).
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! He is the WORST managerial accounting professor at UH. When he works out the problems in class, he does them wrong. He makes mistakes as he's teaching as well. He can't even respect his students, take one look somewhere other than his eyes and he will call you out for being on your phone and turn disrespectful. Avoid!
Took Dr. Seltz for managerial accounting and the course was overall okay. The coursework is simple but you do have to read a lot and study multiple hours a week to be proficient. Work on the chapter study guides and you should be okay. Learn to manage your time and an this course should be an easy A.
do not take this professor. accounting should not be just about listening to lectures. he talks the whole class then skips through powerpoint. handwriting for workout problems is terrible.
Professor Seltz is an old school professor - he will read from the board and talk monotone , he gets very upset with the use of smartphones and laptops at times. He is very boring to listen to, but a great person when you talk to him outside of class. His grading is largely based on effort as well, very fair also. Good guy but very boring class.
Lecture can get boring, however, it is still important to attend class and pay attention. There are many assignments, some more time consuming than hours. There is no textbook so be prepared to read A LOT. You will have to work for your grade. Also, no cell phone/laptop use because you will get called out and he will stop the lecture to address you
He is really old and speaks very softly. He goes on about things for way too long and you get lost. Prepare to teach yourself about the material.
I only attended class because of the clickers but I never understood the professor, I prepared myself for the tests wit other professor's lectures.
He isn't as bad as people say he is. He just speaks monotone and says "blah, blah, blah" a lot. The course is based on your points out of 420, 360+ points is equal to an A. His tests are departmental and fairly easy. As long as you complete the homework and the test reviews, you should realistically make an A.
Attendance is mandatory for clicker points. Boring lecture Can easily pass the class with a B
He is a great and straightforward professor. He really wants you to learn. The syllabus is clear with grading scale and deadlines of all assignments and researches, 4 personal researches, 4 quizzes, 4 team projects, 2 exams. There is no book and there is a lot of material on Blackboard. Be prepared to read a lot but it is rewarding.
He's really great at simplifying concepts. Go to every lecture bc you never can be sure if there will be clickers (which are the hardest part of the course). Did both the prechapter and homewks (easy pts) before he lectured on the chapter, and it helped with the clickers. Stay off your phone- it's annoying that he has to stop and discipline people.
I thought this professor was fine, but as the semester wore on he become an unfortunate person to be around. He spent more time fussing at students about being on their cell phones or mumbling than lecturing. In addition, his lectures were functionally useless. I stopped going to the lectures and studied the online materials and got an A.
The class isn't too hard and he isn't horrible as a professor either. I forgot to do the first 4 pre-chapter assignments and still made an A in the class. Just don't use your phone because he will call you out on it. Be respectful and he'll show the same. We also had clicker questions after most classes. Try to pay attention and study before tests.
Hated going to class because he just read off of the powerpoint, and got off topic all of the time. Not a good lecturer - I would not take him again. Boring to listen to, and did not project his voice well either. The least he could do was engage the class more once in a while? Uses clickers, McGraw Hill homework, 2 exams & 1 comprehensive final.
From the very first day introduction speech, I knew I would never be attending the class. Yes, the lectures attendance is mandatory for accounting 2331 and 2332 because most students go on to take the CPA and need a certain number of face to face hours. Read the book, his lectures are somehow less than helpful.
His lectures are extremely boring & all over the place. The tests however are not that hard & are graded on a curve so as long as you do some studying a few days beforehand you should be okay. Only 9 of 12 homeworks were counted, the prechapters are easy, and there are clicker attendance questions. Will be an easy A if you do the work.
Worst professor Ive had here at UH. It sucks that the lectures are mandatory due to his lectures being completely pointless. While the classs tests are nearly all math related professor Seltz just loves to rant on and on about an example that will not help in any way. Id do better if I could just stay home and study. Dont take his class!
If you can take a different professor, I would highly recommend that you do! He's not a great lecturer. He quite literally just reads off his PowerPoints. Every now and then he'll try to engage his students but most of us don't know what's going on so none of us answer! I ended up just teaching myself most of the material.
First day of class, I was about ready to transfer to another professor. He's just really hard to listen to and the subject matter doesn't help it. But really the reality of this class lies in how much you self-study. He answers his emails promptly and sees to it that he does his job - but if you rely on lectures, I recommend you take another prof.
Required to show up to class for clicker points. I think he is really boring and hard to follow. Tests were pretty difficult in my opinion. If this class wasn't made online because of COVID 19, I definitely would have failed this class. Class was made online, and therefore was easy to pass, so take from that what you will.
His teaching style is very oral with minimal visuals, especially when introducing a new concept. If you can listen, it will make sense. The exams are difficult but he is easy to reach in and out of class, and very respectful. When I had to take online classes due to covid-19 it was much harder to learn since he was not familiar with tech.
Professor Seltz is not a bad professor, it's just Accounting is not interesting to teach in an auditorium of young adults. He just reads power points and waits for questions, and he does genuinely answer every question. Downside is clickers in almost every class and they count for 15% of your grade so get ready to be there.
The accounting department makes these accounting classes way too hard. Attendance is mandatory, there are projects, quizzes, and homeworks. But professor Seltz is the best professor I've had so far. I finally understand what's going on. I'd say he's the best given how strict the department. The tests are monitored. (online because of covid)
Okay professor
He's a decent professor who does care about his students. Attendance is mandatory because there are polling questions. Lots of homework. Lectures are nothing too exciting. You kind of need to read and pay attention if you want to do well in this class.
This was the first-ever class I had to drop. During the first week of attending a lecture, I knew already that this style of lecturing ( reading straight from PowerPoint and going off-topic a lot ) was not gonna be good. Professor Seltz makes you turn your camera on even though it doesn't really help lol. Polls are required too. Self-study is best
I had a great experience with Professor Seltz. He was not always the most interesting lecturer, but all information needed for exams was provided. He gave a lot of analogies to cheerios and truck tires. Classes were well structured and designed to optimize material retention. Study for exams plenty in advance. Thank me later!
Prof Seltz is your average accounting professor. He's overall boring, but he makes sure you understand the material. He's a very approachable person. I will say make sure you understand the due dates. He does not remind you when anything is due, not even the day of. So if you miss out "that's on you" (his words, not mine).
He goes on rants. His notes are messy and all over the place. When doing polling, instead of telling you "Here are the questions, you have 5 mins to answer them", he instead will break it down by seconds and tell you how long it should take you in his opinion. The overall outcome is just massive anxiety with no real learning taking place.
Took him for ACCT 4335 (Audit). Exams are 75% of your grade, smartbook is 10%, homework is 10% and Apollo WP quizzes are 5%. He grades very toughly on all short answer questions and Apollo WP quizzes. If you don't read the chapter, do the practice questions, redo the homework and rewatch his lectures, you will not get an A.
Take a better professor
Tbh his lectures are boring when compared to Weber, but assignments are pretty easy, and polling isn't bad. But no matter the professor, this class is not an easy A; you HAVE to study. Overall, he's meh and even Weber.
I got into a car accident this semester. When I asked for an extension because I was hospitalized and he said no, "no exceptions." Do not take him. His lectures are super boring and his exams have nothing to do with the material he teaches. The kaltura lecture software is also horrible. It lags and malfunctions all the time!
This class wasn't easy, but if you listen to the lectures you'll be ok. There are 3 exams, 1 lecture with questions and 1 homework due every week. Just stay on top of the assignments and everything will be fine.
The professor is extremely dull. His lectures consist of reading from a PowerPoint while answering the course questions. If you have to reach out to him for help you're out of luck, because he is not a fan of putting in effort for his students. Also, this course is unnecessarily difficult, almost 20 new formulas for each test with no formula chat.
Seltz makes himself extremely available via email or zoom. He is very helpful outside of class and loves when students ask questions in class. His assignments and tests are tough, but it is an advanced course. This class was a 4 hour night class and he went the full 4 hours every single time, so be prepared for that. Awesome professor, I recommend!
This class is difficult, but Professor Seltz explains the concepts and topics very well. His lectures are not action packed, but I felt they were supplemental to the readings. I would recommend taking Seltz if you seek to pursue accounting as a career because he gives real world applications of the course work.
This professor does not know how to teach. He is very boring in his lectures and does not make anything interesting. I recommend taking another professor. Teaching yourself is an option but in his synchronous class he does unexpected polling, so you have to attend the zoom call.
This professor does his best to support students in comprehending the material by encouraging participation in classes and having review sessions. HW and smartbook assignments, projects, and polls can achieve full credit by meeting past an obtainable threshold. Exams are curved generously, in which a missed exam can be replaced by final.
Seltz's lectures were a little confusing. As long as you study the material from the online textbook, you'll pass the exams. The final is cumulative and does polling! The work was average in terms of difficulty.
WOW, where do I even start? By far the most boring and useless professor I've ever taken. Seltz is one of those professors that are 80 yrs old and have been here long enough to just not care anymore. He does the bare minimum to not lose his job, and that's it. Get ready to teach yourself EVERYTHING. No second chances on tech errors or anything.
lockdown browsers for all tests final replaces one of two tests lectures are boring same monotone for an hour and they are a quiz in the lecture. I got an A but i wouldn't reccomend him all answers for hw usually online.
Seltz's lectures can be dry, but staying engaged and using resources like the textbook and unstuck AI make passing this course manageable. Attendance is mandatory, so be ready to participate.
Worst professor! UH fire him. Waste of my time & money. No text book, no notes. Unstructured lectures. Jumps around many documents. Goes through 30-40 pages in 3 minutes or stays on a paragraph for an hour. No background information, no progression, or connectivity between topics. Very difficult to follow along. Never felt this frustrated and lost.
Please don't take this professor, his lectures are boring and unengaging. He doesn't take a lot of time explaining the slides and lectures. You pretty much have to teach yourself everything. I learned more from YouTube than from this professor.
I am worried this Professor is goin to ruin my perfect GPA. He is the worst professor at Uh. He does not know how to teach. He confuses more than help understand. Seems like he is talking to himself and is difficult to follow along. I hate the fact that attendance is mandatory. Boring class. Tough grader. Learned nothing from him.
Horrible. 3hr online class with cameras, fine. But he tends to go past the 3 hours multiple times. Also has ZERO breaks during the class and will call out people who turn their camera off for like 2 minutes. Maybe they're using the bathroom??!!!? Such a frustrating class...
Terrible professor. He likes to talk about how his class is about being a professional, but he ALWAYS goes over the 3-hour class period. But when it is time for exams, it is 2 hours from 6pm, not 2 hours from when you start. He talks about how he made this class by himself to prepare students for the work evironment. Not much has been learned.
He made this class himself... very unorganized. He is all over the place and very confusing. He is an old head, expecting students to already know everything. I already interned and the work environment is much friendlier than he describes. I really did have an awful experience. Can't believe it's required class for Master's program. Waste of money
He talks about being better, faster, smarter... but I feel like the lectures were a waste of my time. Had to have cameras on but it was a waste of time. My graduate school experience was great, he was the one exception. He needs to do better. Do yourself a favor and find a different professor.
The worst professor I had (grad and undergrad). Talks in circles and makes little sense. Does not give time for dinner or bathroom breaks (class is 6-9pm). He will call you out if you turn off your camera for a second. DO NOT TAKE HIM NOT MATTER WHAT. I dread this class.
Very good professor, his lectures get boring sometimes but he knows what he is talking about and cares for the students. Besides that the class was pretty difficult, but every guide was on canvas. Would recommend!
The professor has a lot of material available to prepare you for exams. He has end of chapter textbook answers which my ACCT 2301 professor did not have. He also has recorded lectures of each chapter, which I have found helpful when I have missed class. He tells you straight up what you will need to learn and what to throw away for each exam.
He is one of the most difficult professors I have ever met. I have taken class ACCT 4335 - Auditing. - The material is hard, but he gives us 5 written short answers on the exam, including 41 questions in 75 mins; it's worth a 45/100 score. Just 7 students got 70s. I was studying seriously, but I got under 40. Many people got 20s. Drop this class.
IMO avoid this professor. Almost feel like he's purposely making the course harder than it needs to be. Exam 1 average was a 48 and is wanting us to do a re-exam...? No study guide because apparently "everything in the PowerPoints is important."
Professor Seltz is a good instructor; however, his teaching style can be ineffective for beginners. He moves at a very fast pace, which can be difficult to follow. That said, he does provide a wide variety of materials in the Canvas modules for students to study on their own.
I gave a four only cause it wasn't entirely his fault. The university auditing curriculum was atrocious and all our sections were failing across all professors. The exams are so heavy and can really mess you up. As long as you make a high score on one of them you can breathe easy. Ace every other assignment
