Selzler is really great a making you understand what he is talking about! He does great demos and is very funny at times. Tests are right out of your notes and homework.

Very, very clear and organized. Makes a subject that could be very confusing into something very fun and exciting. Lectures are informative and not boring. Always eager to help and make sure you understand the material. Easy due to his clarity and tests are fair and off the notes. Definite A+.

He's quirky and weird, but it keeps you interested and awake. I hate all science and barely passed in HS, but got an A here. It's easy if you come to class, do homework, and study a little before tests. I only used the book when he occasionally assigned problems from the book, so you can buy the book or copy pages from the book in the library.

This guy is pretty cool. I would say the easiest of the teachers for Chem. You should be able to pass the class easily if you pay attention and do the homework. Tests are average and he lets you use a 3x5 notecard on them, unlike other teachers. Kinda goofy during lecture. Very high energy usually. Explains things well. All online quizes at home. No in class closed book surprise quizes like my old teacher Oliver. Checks to see if you need help in lab, sometimes too much though.

he does a good job explaining everything. He assigns way too much homework though and there are many HW problems that he doesnt explain how to do in class. The tests and quizzes are kind of hard too. The lab is really easy though, as long as u do the minimum. He also is available often for homework help. I always email him when i have a question and he usually answers me in the same day as long as i send it to him early.

He's great! He teaches cleary, he's funny, straight forward and he's willing to help you. you can't silde through class without holding up your end of the bargain, but thats alright because he more than does his part. I wish I could take more chemistry from him.

This class is hard! The test don't seem to match what he teaches in class. I managed to get a B. I did all my homework, did not miss one class, and studied for every test. Besides the subject matter, which is hard to understand I can only guess I should have studied more. I liked him despite the fact that his test were so hard.

his class was very fun and interesting. he went over the facts way too fast.when it came to homework i was confused.he grades really tough and most of my class failed. i got a d in this class after tutoring studing and even going to his office. take another teacher unless you love chemistry.

I had taken Chem and failed before and was slightly daunted by returning to school after a long absence. Boy was I lucky to get Joe as my first teacher. Very helpful, made you get excited about chemistry. As long as you attend every class and do the daily work you will pass with no problem. Same with Lab!

I had him as a lab teacher but not lecture. I really wish I did he is an amazing teacher. I recommend that you take both classes with him. He is very clear on the labs and is extremely helpful, he walks around the whole class period checking your work and makes sure you understand and if you dont takes time to clearly help you so you do.

selzer is an awesome teacher. he made chem sound so easy. his lectures are fun and interesting. he gives a test after every two chapter. there are also quizzes in between. is homeworks are pretty easy. he does take attendance so after 8 absences he will drop you. i recommend him for chem majors. i will definitely take him again in the future.

Dr.Selzer is one of the best chemistry teacher in VC. He explains very well and help you to pass every tests. There are 5 tests in the CHEM20, and one final, quiz can help you to upgrade your overgrade. There are some extra credit assignments in his class. I got an A in his class, but the final only 144 out of 200. I strongly recommend to take him.

Quite possibly the best teacher at Ventura College. Even if you have very little interest in chemistry I would recommend his class, he's incredibly enthusiastic, and his class is a comedy show to watch. Read, do homework, go to class (you wouldn't really want to ever skip anyways, I knew people from other classes that watched for fun) and its easy

I took his chem for health sci in the fall of 08. He's a bit goofy, but he is plain awesome. There's a sign in sheet for attendence, homework is straight from the book, and he tells you exactly what he expects you to know for the tests. I used to hate chem, but he made me change my mind. I highly recommend him if you need chem!

Mr. Selzer is a great chemistry teacher. All tests are based on his lectures. He's helpful and eager to clarify any questions. You still have to study and understand the material, but he guides you as much as he can.

He makes the subject super easy to understand. He is very enthusiastic and makes learning chemistry fun and interesting. He can make a child easily understand chemistry. There are 5 tests and many quizzes and homework assignments, but it's all very easy 'cause he is a great teacher. I totally recommend him!

Great teacher. Takes attendance. Go to class, take notes. Don't really need the book except for HW assignments. I just studied from class notes and got an A in the class. There are never any surprises on the test. Final is cumulative but he gives an outline type study guide - just go over old tests and quizzes, he leaves out the harder concepts.

GREAT teacher. I have changed my major and will now have to take more CHEM classes. I was so sad to find that he doesn't teach every single CHEM class at VC. That's how good this guy is. Best professor I have had at VC. He is so enthusiastic about teaching chemistry! He really took his time to help students and help them understand. He has a great sense of humor and did said random stuff that'd get the class laughing out of their seats! There's a lot of work but as long as you study hard you'll pass!

Professor Selzler is passionate and very knowledgeable about the subject he teaches. His in-class instruction is clear and easy to follow. Assigned homework is relevant and really helps to gain a better understanding of the subject. Definitely one of my favorite professors, and I'd gladly take another course from him.

Other for being great in lecture, I highly recommend taking his lab class. He is always clear on explaining the lab/ procedure and extremely fair on grading lab reports. Show up to every class, do every pre lab /post lab. If you have trouble on them utilize his office hours he is always willing to help and is very approachable. :)

can sometimes do experiments in his lecture classes which makes the class fun, homework is easy until the test come, be expecting up to 5 pages for the test, worst part is he puts about 3-4 chapters in one test period so its very difficult to remember and pass. he is a fast speaker so its difficult to keep up with him while he is talking.

CHemistry is hard, but he make it pretty bare able and if you do the homework and pay good attention, passing is with a good grade is a breeze.

He is the best he definitely knows how to teach his class and is very passionate about science. He makes you work for your grade but you will totally learn a lot in his class!! He is also hilarious he cracks some funny jokes, he does take roll , plenty of homework, around 8 quizzes and 5 tests. Gives study guides for every test i recommend him :)

Lots of in class hand outs so showing up is a must. Honestly he is so easy to learn from it is worth it to show up anyway.

Definitely expect homework. He gives hw pretty much every week so make sure you do it. Not doing some hw assignments hurt my grade in the end. Skipping class is skipping notes which is basically your ticket to an A. Don't do it. He's a really cool teacher and keeps the class fun. Just don't be disrespectful or anything and you'll be golden.

Professor Selzler is the best chemistry teacher/professor I've ever had. Chem V30 was an everyday class (M-Th), but he made class fun by making chemistry jokes or showing us an experiment to help us have a better understanding. He gives out review sheets and they REALLY help, so I recommend doing every problem, even the easy ones.

This class was one of the best classes I have taken. Lectures were not boring and included many jokes. Really explains the context and makes sure everyone understands what is going on. Not a lot of homework 1-2 pages. Lab is easy to do the experiments if you just do exactly what he says. Lenient on grading too so show all your work for some points.

One of the best teachers i've ever had a t Ventura College. He is funny, and always willing to help his students inside and outside of class. Thought this class would be really hard and boring but he makes it fun and teaches very well and effectively.

Best prof I've ever had. He legitimately cares about your passing, understanding the material, and enjoying his lectures. His mixing of comedy and energetic language into his lessons is reminiscent of an early 2000's Bill Nye the Science Guy VHS tape. I found myself looking forward to his lectures as relief from the hum-drum of all my other classes

I rented the book and didnt open it a single time, so that's your call. If learning chem doesnt make you smile, Joe's cheesy jokes will. You wont regret it.

Joe is an amazing professor. He makes chemistry fun. If you are struggling in class with the concepts he will help you out. He is available outside of class as well.

As long as you show up to class and keep up with the assignments you should definitely be fine. Prof. Selzer definitely makes chemistry easy to learn by explaining it in such a humorous way. Often times after lab he would help students who needed any further help! Transparent with grading and when assignments are due.

HILARIOUS. Very nice and intelligent man! I dont feel intimidated asking a question after class. Make sure you do all the hw. His quizzes and test are pretty hard but thats why you need to put hours after lecture & lab to pass. Its not my favorite class but seltzer makes it worth going to.

Best chemistry professor at VC! Makes class very fun to go to and communicates the subject matter in a way that is easy to understand. Course is very straight forward and as long as you keep up with your work and study for quizzes and tests, you'll be fine. He is incredibly hilarious and I would DEFINITELY take him if he taught OChem!

This guy is the GOAT of chemistry. I took him for lab and lecture (V01A & V01B) and it was great. I wish he could teach other subjects because I like his teaching style. If chemistry is your cup of tea, you're chilling. If not, then he is willing to help out and explain the material. Kinda reminds you of professor Frink from the Simpsons.

This class was definitely my favorite class that I've taken so far! I learned so much about chemistry but he made it so much fun and his lectures were always full of jokes and fun experiments. Because of this class I have decided to continue taking chemistry classes and I left this class with such a strong understanding of basic chemistry topics.

Joe is a very nice guy. He really cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed. I had a lot of fun in his class and learned a lot. He makes an effort to help everyone in the lab and will take time to explain things to you individually. He always made his lectures entertaining. He would tell jokes and do cool experiments.

You know those nerds in the movies that you really love just because of how geeky they are? That's Joe. Joe teaches chemistry by making it fun and exciting for you. He always has a ton of energy. It's 8 am and this guy is literally bouncing off the walls, jumping off desks, and lighting stuff on fire. Do yourself a huge favor and take his class.

The best chem professor ever! He is very willing to help you out if youre struggling and his lab is fairly easy if you pay attention to the lectures. He goes through each experiment before hand and makes sure to answer any questions if we have many. We have a quiz on each experiment so make sure you know what you are doing!

Really Fun lectures, but very informative which is great material is very understandable. Dont be afraid to ask questions he is very helpful!

By far the best prof I had this semester. You can tell he genuinely cares about making sure his students succeed. He assigns recorded lectures that are easy to understand and homework that is done both online and during zoom meets. Definitely a great teacher and would recommend to anyone! I took his lab as well and it was just as good as class.

He is so funny, his lectures are quick - class time is spent doing worksheets with others which is a God-send. His recorded lectures are great, quick and easy. And easy points. He allows multiple opportunities for extra credit and the guy is hilarious. Ive never had a more fun, easy going teacher that knows how to teach just as well! Amazing class

By far the best professor ive had , his lectures are clear and understanding, there is alot of homework but its chemistry so expect that, can be challenging if you dont keep up! But its not bad at all , he makes chemistry so much fun! Youll look forward to seeing him in class! Highly recommend!! We need more professors like him :,)

He is the best science teacher I have EVER had! Hes so fun and funny and clear on what he teaches and you can tell hes passionate too. Hes always available for help with his office hours and emails back quickly! You will not regret taking this class!!!!! Used the book at times as a over view but you can learn from him and his video lectures!

Professor Selzler is a great teacher. He clearly knows chemistry. He makes his grading and instructions clear. Willing to help and explain things to you. Always makes class interesting and makes it fun. I had him for Lab but I wish I had him for lecture too. I still say hi to him even after a few semesters of not having him. I strongly recommend!

Great teacher you can tell he loves what he does!! The work isnt too bad and pretty straight forward. Would recommend and his teaching style makes the work easy to understand!

I am close to finishing his class for the Spring 2021 semester, so it's been entirely online. He is a very good teacher; he's happy to answer questions and really goes over the topic you are learning. The only thing is that the workload - regular chemistry class AND lab - can be a lot.

Professor Selzler is awesome! Hands down one of the best professors I've ever had. Don't be shy to go to his office hours if your doing his class online, he answers all your questions. He made math so much easier for me!

He's a great instructor. Makes Chemistry so fun and explains it in the best and concise way possible. I always look at rate my professor before I register and the best ratings here are 100%. Shorter lectures for a science course but they're perfect. He's a funny and tremendous guy, you'll love it.

Professor Selzler was a kind, funny, and very smart chemistry professor. He makes chemistry very easy to understand. If you ask questions and do the homework you will do well in his class. It is not an "easy A" because you have to put the work in to earn the grade, but I highly recommend him as a professor. He is amazing.

Joe Selzler is one of the best professors I've ever had! Before this class, I made myself believe I hated chemistry which wasn't the case. Professor Selzler made me LOVE this course. Straight to the point, very caring, explains everything, and he is there to help you. It's a heavy course, but he makes it much easier. I passed with an A. Take him!

Took him for both the lecture and the lab course this semester. He is accessible and willing to answer any questions. Prof Selzler genuinely cares and makes it so the lectures are understandable for his students. He provided study guides for all of the tests.

Prof Selzler is really funny and generally doesn't make things more difficult than they should be. He does allow for late work, just make sure you email him. I took the hybrid class which meant I could either go in person or Zoom, but *everyone* had to be there for the tests (like one every other week). Would definitely take this class again

This professor was very much hands down excellent teaching for chemistry. He will show you how the equations are done and then he will make you do the work yourself. Although his test was kind of a challenge I was still able to learn how to convert and identify in his lectures. Just be sure to pay attention and prepare to do homework.

He makes learning chemistry really fun. If you do the homework and pay attention during lectures you will do well. Exams aren't too hard - are based off lecture/hw. He also gives you study guide before exams on what you should memorize and what you should know. I also took him for Lab and he goes over the whole lab before you start.

HE IS THE BEST! i took his 8 in the morning class and my goodness he kept me awake haha! he is funny and can REALLY teach chemistry. Even if you didn't get the right answer he will at least give you credit for 1. showing your work. 2. Trying your best on the problem. He really cares about his class and how he teaches his subject and it shows!!

Joe Selzler is an AMAZING professor!! (10/10 would take him again) He's very understanding and gives out extra credit during exams (turn in a notebook). He gives study guides for every exam and allows for note cards. This is the BEST professor I've ever had (take him for lab too). Easy A if you study and do the homework.

Awesome teacher! Does a good job at pacing out the amount of work given for homework during lecture. Will check your lab for you if you ask so you can get full credit. Likes to make a lot of jokes that relate to better understanding the subject.

Professor Selzler gave me an interest in chemistry. Great teacher, great class.

I took Professor Selzler for both the CHEM V20 lecture and lab classes, and he was a great teacher. He was very enthusiastic and made lots of jokes related to the material. Also was willing to answer all questions. His grading policy is loss of 10% credit for every day late, so turn your assignments in on time. Attend zoom or in-person for lecture.

Great professor, I just didn't pay enough attention in the first half of the semester so I got a B in the lecture but an A in the lab. He will expect you to keep up with the class and won't take any sort of late work past the due date or grace period he gives for homework in lecture or lab reports. Amazing man overall, would definitely recommend.

Honestly got me so excited for the prospect of chemistry. Hes really funny and actually a very good chemistry teacher, I wouldn't recommend missing any days as even just 1 makes it hard to catch up but hes very understanding.

Hands down the best professor I've had in my college experience. I had heard from many people that Chem1B was very hard, but professor Joe Selzler made everything very easy to understand. I absolutely loved his lectures, he made it very fun to learn

What more is there to say that all the rest of the people on here haven't yet? Such a caring guy who goes out of his way to ask how people are doing and genuinely cares about students. Makes his lectures more interesting than most chem teachers with their own experiments and is also very helpful by staying after class to answer questions.

Prof Selzler is the best chemistry professor I've ever had. He's very knowledgable, approachable, and will help you in any way he can. His lectures are super helpful as well because he passes out handouts that outline the entire lecture and they include practice questions. Chemistry is an easy class to fall behind in if you don't put in the effort.

Best chemistry professor! Provides packets to take notes; to follow the lecture. Makes the lectures fun, interactive & provides demonstrations. Allows 2 quiz retakes & drops lowest homework and quiz score. Extra credit is earned if you show your work from your homework in a notebook. Do your homework & pay attention in class. Strongly recommend.

Definitely the best chemistry professor at VC. I've taken him for multiple chem lecture and lab classes and he is very clear and helpful. You do need to show up to every class or you will get behind. Tests are majority of your grades so study and ask for help if you need it. 100% would recommend any class he teaches.

Loved him! I had on of his 8am classes and he was always ready to teach with high energy. He is so passionate of what he teaches and is one of my favorite professors. Just sign up for his class, you would regret it.

Prof Selzler makes chemistry surprisingly fun. He's clear in lectures and generous with partial credit. The exams are fair if you do the homework and use resources like the free textbook and unstuck ai for study prep. Definitely take this class if you can.

Amazing teacher. 4points ec with every test. 4 test and 1 final cumulative final exam. He loves teaching he gives in class demonstrations frequently. Must attend class as it is very easy to get behind. He is always willing to give you addition help, examples, and will post videos with addition questions with step by step instruction by him.

Best professor at VC, hands down. Easy to understand, as long as you pay attention, you won't even need to read the textbook or look for any supplemental resource. I've taken him for chemv01a, chemv01b, same experience every time. Take him if you can!!
