Professor Swingle is terrific. Engaging lectures, accessible for office hours, and he'll tirelessly explain problems until you understand them. On top of all that, he's a great human being.

Easily the best course and the best professor that I have ever taken.

What can I say? If I could take every class during my college career with Prof Swingle, I would.

I never imagined stats would be so interesting. Prof Swingle was simply incredible - he truly cared about me as a student, checked in with me when he knew I was struggling, and even met with me on two Sunday afternoons to go over my questions. I wish all my profs shared Joe's commitment and dedication to students. He's a warm and brilliant prof!

I LOVED SWINGLE! I don't think that I would have enjoyed the class if it was taught by any other professor. I struggled through Soc 190 and was dreading getting this requirement done with, but I actually really enjoyed it. Swingle was extremely accessible (even amidst his wife's labor!) and was always willing to help. I appreciate this!

Yes, I really really really enjoyed my professor. He knows how to balance between creativity, fun with statistics. I love his enthusiasm for all his students. I love how he is so personal with all his students. He is a great teacher, who will teach you more than just probability and z-scores. Professor Swingle really has a passion for his students.

Professor Swingle is a great professor! He always encourages us to think critically and independently and makes himself extremely available during his office hours and through e-mail. He utilized in class time and lab time to its fullest. He also made the statistics piece of the class much more accessible and kept us engaged through it!

I would highly recommend Swingle to other students. I have never really liked math or statistics, so I have to say that the only reason why I actually started to like stats was because of him. He was always smiling and happy to teach class, which made it a lot easier to come to class. He was very helpful during office hours and stayed late.

Swingle's personality really makes this class. I don't find statistics particularly interesting but his effervescence makes me enjoy it. He is very available in office hours and after class. If he explains something in class that students don't understand he goes over it again until we do. He is very patient!

I would highly recommend Prof Swingle to other students. Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to take other classes with him; I feel like a basic stats class is not enough to showcase all of his incredible teaching abilities. He is very warm and extremely approachable. If confused about anything at all, it took literally one trip to see him.

I would definitely recommend Swingle as a prof! He does a really good job explaining the material and also does so many examples that it sometimes a little repetitive. But the repetition is probably a good idea for some students. He's easy to talk to and is always willing to answer questions. Besides being a good prof, he's also just hilarious!

YES!!!! He made class fun, was very clear in explaining things, wrote notes out neatly, made amazing handouts for us, and was very approachable and helpful at office hours!

Prof Swingle is an absolutely fantastic prof. Not only is he approachable but it's clear both in class and during office hours that he genuinely cares about his students. He's fantastic at explaining concepts and is always willing to give you an extra hand in learning the material. If he isn't already tenured at Wellesley, he should be!

Prof Swingle was great and I have been recommending him to everyone I know that must take this course in the fall. Prof Swingle is extremely entertaining and I loved coming to class for this reason. He also tries hard to make interesting problems which also helps engage students.

Professor Swingle managed to keep me awake and interested in an 8:30am class, and that's saying A LOT. He was super helpful and had really challenging assignments but I honestly think that if you study the material well and go to office hours, he is really fair. Put in the work, and you'll be rewarded.

I would recommend this instructor for sure! Professor Swingle gives very informative lectures and very good notes. His problem sets and midterms relate to what we learn in class very well. He offers great help outside class and genuinely cares about all students.

I recommend Professor Swingle. he is very funny and is very good at entertaining the students while giving a very concise and easy to understand explanation of concepts. also he's class is well organized and he gives you lots of opportunity to practice the concept until it is in your head.

He was engaging in class, his notes were clear and made sense when you went back to review them. His midterms were on the material we were taught, he didn't surprise us with any trick questions. He also made himself available to students outside class, often taking time to schedule office hours at a variety of times to accommodate his students.

Hearing Joe Swingle talk at Spring Open Campus made me come to campus for professors like him. I'm so grateful to have taken this class with him because he truly knows how to make problems challenging and add application but also ensures that you have a solid understanding of the concepts, which other professors at Wellesley don't really do.

Hard professor and really makes you work for a good grade but I definitely walked out of the class with a very solid understanding of material that I sucked at before. Really engaging lecturer too

Stats is dull, but he taught it clearly and engagingly. I walked out on the last day feeling I'd learned a lot.

He's funny, nice, and engaging during class. Joe explains concepts well, but perhaps not always in a structured way. This class was really easy and his tests match up to the psets and what we do in class very well.

Professor Swingle was maybe the most enthusiastic professor I have had, especially at 8:30. He also was very helpful outside of class and made sure that his students understood everything taught and he made sure to make time if we could not come during office hours. I greatly appreciated that.

Really really liked this professor. Thought he was incredibly welcoming and kind in office hours to clarify any issues. Always there to help students. Lectures were very interesting which is saying alot considering the class was at 8:30 in the morning and statistics tends to be rather dry (for me at least).

He really challenged me (as a novice to all statistics) to think more critically. I think I definitely grew alot from this class in terms of analytical ability.

He made himself very available not only during office hours, but outside of them as well, and if meeting wouldn't work, he could be easily contacted for emails as well.

Professor Swingle really made early morning lectures enjoyable to understand with an unending supply of (corny) jokes - he's super enthusiastic and always made me feel welcome in his classroom!

I love Professor Swingle! He has so much energy and a great sense of humor, which makes it the 8:30 time of the class a lot easier. He takes time to get to know his students, and is very accommodating of us. He provides lots of handouts and lecture notes and practice problems for us to review and I appreciate his organization system.

Professor Swingle is my favorite professor at Wellesley! He truly makes an effort to make stats more enjoyable and uses examples that lighten up the class. Cannot recommend Professor Swingle enough! He is a ray of sunshine at this institution!! He is incredibly clear, helpful, and kind. He is always transparent about his expectations on problem sets and exams so that there are no surprises. His lectures are very informative and he very clearly explains topics.

Although I didn't take this class voluntarily and it was primarily to fulfill requirements, Prof Swingle is very caring and compassionate to students and met with me on several occasions to ensure I understood what was happening in the class. He reached out to me when I struggled on the first exam, which made me feel like he particularly cared.

I was genuinely never bored in his class; he used really interesting examples and analogies to get his points across. He is incredibly helpful in office hours and during review sessions and is truly such a great person. I always felt supported and confident in my work because of his kind words and incredible teaching style.

Prof Swingle is a gem. He was very helpful. Many of the lectures were review but Professor Swingle made the lectures interesting and funny, which made me enjoy them nonetheless.

Absolutely! Professor Swingle was super supportive and passionate about stats. He brought energy to each lecture and gave a lot of time to help in his office hours. I took this course as a IR-Econ major requirement. I also just wanted to learn more about statistics to enhance research.

I would recommend this instructor to other students. He is helpful and he tries to be there for us. The amount of resources given to us was immensely valuable, like the short videos answer explanations and the review sessions were all extremely helpful.

The concepts we learnt generally speaking are just super useful to know for the future which I really appreciate. Prof Swingle is extremely understanding which is always necessary but esp so more now than ever. He is very accessible outside of class hours which is very valuable and helps us understand and learn instead of getting stuck.

I had a better grasp of why statistics is a vital tool for real world applications. Swingle has lots of OH and his explanations for problems make stats very understandable. Has really funny stories too. The exams are difficult but he gives you lots of practice problems to prepare. There's a lot to cover, so the pace is fast. Exams your grade.

Absolutely love Professor Swingle! He is very accessible outside of class and will help you through any problem as long as you ask! He wants you to feel comfortable with the material and will check in with you if you are struggling. Lectures are very informative and he is clearly passionate about the subject he teaches! Cant recommend him enough!

Econ 103 is never going to be interesting, but Professor Swingle is as close as it gets. The tests are similar to the PSETS but can sometimes be a little bit harder, so be sure to do the practice tests.

Prof Swingle is the best! He helped me to care about and enjoy math by teaching with examples of its real-world applications. He is super caring and sweet and was always willing to sit down and work through questions outside of class. If you're taking QR, take it with him! And I'm sure he'd be amazing for other classes as well.

Prof Swingle is amazing! He sticks around for office hours far overtime and even when he is at home with his family; he makes statistics fun to learn and tries his best to show how interesting statistics can be. I'm not the biggest fan of statistics but when Prof Swingle taught it, I found myself thinking "wow that's so cool!"

Prof Swingle is amazing! The most valuable course feature were the quizzes. They were difficult than the actual exams which prepared us to deal with problems of varying difficulties. I would strongly recommend this instructor because his teaching style was helpful. He also provided lots of opportunity to receive help and was always there for us.

Loved Swingle as a professor, but the workload often felt unmanageable. Lots of readings and assignments (both a paper due a week before finals and final exam that was essay questions) Lectures were amazing and the content was very engaging! Super flexible and understanding professor, too. (You're kind of screwed if you don't do readings though)

I learned alot in this class! Most valuable were the engaging lectures, problem sets that could be resubmitted for higher scores, and a super-organized Sakai site with videos in case I missed a class. I appreciated Joe telling us exactly what problem set questions to be working on after each lecture. He worked so hard to insure we understood stuff.

Completed final exam today -- I'm done! Exams were challenging but fair. Great course, great prof clearly devoted to his students. Textbook wasn't great but lectures were amazing. If you take this class, try not to miss one. Wish I were getting an A but can't fault Prof Swingle for that. Summer starts now!!!

Favorite professor at Wellesley so far. So so glad that I took the class my first semester here, and he was one of the main reasons I decided to major in sociology. The readings and assignments were all so interesting and inspiring. The class discussion also had good vibes, supportive and encouraging.

Greatly enjoyed the class. The psets were interestingly more difficult than the exams, and sometimes the calculation process could be a little painful. Professor Swingle managed to teach stats in a fun & engaging way!

Tests are definitely doable if you understand the PSETS. Definitely take advantage of his office hours - he is great at walking you through any challenges you are facing.

Professor Swingle is the most kind-hearted professor! He helps his students build more confidence in math and makes difficult equations feel very approachable. Sometimes the homework's deviated from the class lessons but he always had the best intentions of having us learn and challenge ourselves.

Probably one of the sweetest professors at Wellesley! I could really tell that he cared about his students and was very passionate about teaching. Problem sets were a little tedious at times but, he was always very lenient about extending deadlines when he could tell that the class needed it. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience in this class.

Super funny and so sweet! He's engaging and you can tell he cares about each student as a person. His assignments are pretty straightforward though a bit tedious, but he's accommodating and will extend deadlines for you. Make sure to come to his office hours, especially if you're working on a problem set. He's also easy to reach by email.

Extremely caring and personable guy! Teaching is kind of all over the place/confusing and fast paced if you don't read the textbook. Very easy to get behind! Problem sets are extremely lengthy, but great practice if you actually take the time. VERY accessible in office hours, super inclined to help you out if you go to as many OH as possible!!

He is genuinely the sweetest and funniest professor I've had here. I wasn't a fan of his lecture style because he tended to overexplain things and I wasn't always sure what was relevant (I ended up spacing out and teaching myself the content much quicker after class a lot). But that might just be my learning style! Definitely recommend.

I graduated many years ago and Professor Swingle is one of the best professors I have had - clearly structured teaching, very engaging style, and inspiring class vibe. Many things I learned in his class are still relevant to my day to day work :)
