I struggled terribly with math 27 and was dreading another math class. Mr Vasta's way of teaching is amazing and he explains things so well. He made his own book which gives you enough hw problems so you know how to do them and it is so cheap! He is awesome and i am loving the class!

Joe is the best math teacher I have ever had. I took two classes from him, Math 30 and analysis and he really wanted to make sure we understood. He's quite the character and dresses up for halloween. He's not afraid to make a fool of himself, and he is really entertaining and doesn't make me fall asleep! he explains things well and the tests aren't surprise tests, he prepares us well for them. Listen. I've taken Joe for 65A, 65B and 83. If you have to take any of those classes, and you want to pass, take Joe. It's not that he's easy, he's just interested in teaching YOU the material. As efficiently as possible. No homework, all grades depend on your exams. However, the exams are consistently fair.

Joe is one of the best teachers on this campus. He actually teaches you the material, and the unassigned homework is pretty much the tests. If you have to take math take him.

Vasta rocks! I liked math before, but he had me leaving class with a gigantic grin on my face--no kidding! He has fabulous pneumonic devices to help you remember important stuff. Also, I had to take a week off for surgery, and he was incredibly understanding and accomodating, and his tests were never harder than the homework.

Great, 5 Platinum Stars! Vasta's humor will keep your attention, and he uses great visual examples in class. Your grade is based on 5 tests and 1 final, which "resemble" homework problems. Vasta grades fair and gives partial credit. Go to his office hours, Vasta is easy-going and extremely helpful.

He is very clear and explains multiple ways to understand things and is exceptionally entertaining while doing so! The ratings are right. Joe has to be one of the best calculus teachers EVER. He puts a lot of effort into figuring out the best way to teach the material so students can understand and he is hilarious! He doesn't dumb down the material, but he teaches so well that it seems easy. Would definitely recommend this teacher.

He teaches very well, for sure. But, he grades really hard and is very picky. I can be quite frustrating especially when you only have 50 minutes to take the test and you get marked down for not rounding. Your grade is only based off the tests and 1/2 of my class failed the first two tests. So yeah.

He is a great teacher and breaks it down so everyone can understand. He doesn't waste time teaching you 10 techniques for each problem, which really makes it easy to comprehend and digest. But he's a really hard grader and 100% of grade is tests. Bottom line, do you homework every night and you'll pass.

By far one of the BEST math teachers I've had for math. He's so helpful and is always willing to take the time to clarify and answer questions. Class is taught at a good pace. Tests are fair, he's never out to trick anyone. If you do the homework you'll do fine. I'd take him if I were you. Oh he also writes neat and big, so taking notes is easy!!!

hmwk isn't mandatory but it definitely helps to do it, the tests are extremely impactive on your grade since its the only way you get points. Upside? A very fun, quirky teacher who has a different way of explaining things so it's interesting and not boring.

This was my first math class back to school in 9 years. Prof Vasta knows that some people find math as boring and makes class interesting and fun. He is very helpful and will suggest other methods for you to get assistance, if you need it. All around great guy. I would take the rest of my math classes with him if i could.

For a long time I had been struggling with algebra and could do anything but when he explained things, they suddenly made perfect sense. Linear analysis, great class! Mostly because Joe makes it good, first funny math teach I've ever had,and its a great teaching style I think You can remember some of his quirky humor regarding certain topics so they are easier to remember. Joe's understanding of the material actually fools you into thinking that you understand it as well. In a good brainwashing kind of way. The tests are very similar to the homework. Getting a B is not hard, just time consuming. Ask Questions especially when you feel hung up on something.

His lecture does far better at teaching linear algebra and differential equations than the book. I only used the book for the homework problems. Never read a page.

Vasta is hilarious and really makes math class less painful. He doesn't collect the homework and the only points in the class are from tests, so if you're not self-motivated, take a more structured professor. However, if you're the type who can make yourself study, I highly recommend him. The textbook he uses comes free as a PDF.

I LOVE Joe's class. He's such a funny guy and really makes going to class more fun. His tests are very fair, and he is very clear about testing material you have covered in class lectures. Homework was not for credit, so grade is based only off of exams and final. Linear Analysis isn't a class to sluff off, take him, do the homework. :)

Always rockin' the jorts! If you have an uptight sense of humor you won't enjoy the class. Lecture is very straight forward and clear. Homework is optional but you HAVE to at least look at it. Tests are worded like the HW. He can be kind of tough grading, especially format. See him in office or say hi around campus, the mans a walking comedy show.

He is the bomb. He's incredibly smart but doesn't make you feel stupid. He's super funny but not at the expense of any of his students. The biggest thing to be aware of is that (at least for Ordinary Differential Equations and Linear Algebra) there are no quizzes and you don't receive points for homework. 100% of your grade is dependent on tests.

I had him for linear algebra/differential equations, and he was fantastic. His lectures are clear and his tests are reasonable. Also, I've never had a professor who can get a class laughing as hard and as often as he does. He made what can be a dry and theoretical subject interesting and often enjoyable.

Joe is truly an awesome professor. His lectures are hilarious and he truly makes an effort to connect with students. ODELA is a very abstract course and many of the textbooks out there do a poor job of explaining it. Joe manages to break it down both using mathematical terms and lamens. HW is a must, not collected but it's great practice for exams.

He knows how to make you laugh and have a good time while you're learning. He balances breaks within the lectures to make class more enjoyable and light hearted.

I had Joe Vasta for Math 242 last semester, and I received a D+. I underestimated the tests at first and after receiving very low test scores, it was very hard to bounce back. If you do all of your homework and study for every test, you will pass. He is a very down to earth teacher, and I would highly recommend taking this class.

This is how professors should be like. Although he is hilarious, he's also an amazing professor who just genuinely loves teaching and enriching students. Although there is no homework and the class is based entirely on exams, they are fair and are just like the reviews. This is college y'all, you have to do the homework to pass any of your classes.

Vasta is the real deal. The guy is patient, funny, and incredibly smart. The man works for the DOD cracking codes and saving the world (that's not even a joke). He also cracks jokes. Funny ones. Homework isn't mandatory but it's the only studying you'll need to do. When I did my homework I got a 110% on my test but when I didn't do my homework I got a 65%. Math was actually kinda easy and he made it fun.

Vasta is my favorite, makes math super easy & is hilarious. Grade is based only on tests. He wrote the book, which is where the hw is in & hw is not graded but is very similar to his tests. As long as you do and understand the hw, you should do good on the tests. Also, he has an EC question on every exam. Gives points for attendance.

Prof. Vasta is a surprisingly good professor. He is pretty lecture heavy, but entertaining enough to keep you paying attention. Tests are fairly straightforward with minimal curveballs. But tests are the only thing in your grade, no hw, no quizzes, just 5 tests and a final. He is very funny and genuinely cares about his students. Solid teacher

Joe Vasta has a great approach to his lectures: focus on examples, which explain how to complete each problem and reveal patterns and shortcuts, and ease the stress of the semester with humor. His lectures are enjoyable and effective. Homework and attendance are not graded but absolutely recommended to complete in order to succeed in this class.

Joe Vasta is one of the best profs I have ever had the pleasure learning from. Probably one of the funniest people I've ever met as well. I have never been a math person, but Vasta breaks it down really well in an easy to understand way. He understands how non-math people think, so if you're more of a humanities person, this is the guy to take.

Joe is entertaining and makes class as fun as possible. That said, Math 230 is a complete joke. This class is stupid easyI have no idea why it's a requirement for Cal Poly. There are days where it's almost physically painful to sit through class because of how basic the material is. That said, do the HW so you don't forget the simple tricks.

I really enjoyed taking linear algebra with Joe. He gives very clear lectures, doesn't give manditory homework, which was a huge plus for me, and had tests that were quite reasonable. Joe is a real gem. He really cares about his students, and it shows in the way that he teaches. Be prepared, your grade in the class is based solely off of tests. I took precalc (A) and calc 1 (B) with professor Vasta. The lectures are thorough and entertaining. He's the best professor I've had at Cuesta. HW is assigned (not collected) for each section. Exam questions are the same difficulty as the HW. You will get a higher grade if you complete all HW. Maybe review some trig before the semester begins. :

Love the class! As a math nerd, and even my normal side, this guy keeps it light and fun. He also stays on track with where we were at in our understanding; meaning he keeps the lecture at the pace of where the class is. Occasionally he pushes forward, but that is only when he thinks nothing is lost by doing so. Excellent ability to connect!

I say lots of homework, but it is all optional. Even though it is optional, it is the best way to study for tests. Which just so happen to be the only thing in the grade book. Besides that, he is a great teacher, extremely funny, and he spells math out in a way that makes sense to anybody. Wish he taught all my future math classes.

Every class he has you rolling on the floor with laughter while teaching you what you actually need to know for Calc. Just beware of his tangents that happen every hour or so. Mr. Vasta is a pretty great teacher overall and he is able to make jokes about how math class can be boring at times which is funny and enjoyable. I would say that any aspects of the class that I didn't like come from the fact that I hate math and are not the fault of Mr. Vasta. Mr. Vasta made math class as enjoyable as it can be.

It's fun to do the class because you can tell he knows what he's doing and that he cares about you succeeding. The class was fairly easy but not a walk in the park either. You need to work for a good grade, but if you simply attend classes and do the homework, you'll easily get an A.

Professor Vasta was such a good professor! I took this class in high school and really struggled, but with Vasta it was SO easy! He explains everything really well, I wish I could have taken 265B with him as well. He is super nice and helpful when you reach out. Def recommend him!

Joe Vasta's a great teacher. I wish I had him in person, but even with online lecture videos I would laugh out loud sitting at my desk at least once per video. His lectures are mostly working out problems which were all very similar to test problems so if you pay attention to the lectures you should be good.

The subject is tough and you really need to put effort into learning, but prof Vasta makes it easy. Mr Vasta is a really amazing teacher. I took this calc class online, and the only points you received were through the tests you took, which meant we had to work harder on the tests to prove our understanding of the material. If you ever got confused on homework problems, we were able to email them to him and he would write out the steps.

Vasta is an amazing Professor. The only downside for taking this class was that I had to take it online during covid. Even despite that, Professor Vasta's video lectures are top notch. While they can sometimes get lengthy, they do a great job at teaching the material. Only exams are graded, so make sure you do the homework and watch all lectures.

He's a dork, no question, but that is what makes this class fun. Attend class, follow along, try to solve the problem as he's solving it, and try and use the tips he gives. Do the homework while fresh out of class. Only the last exam is cumulative, if you have an A before that, sometimes the final is optional to attend.

I already miss him :( I took this professor last spring during online COVID and his lectures were great. A little on the slow side but you could always adjust the speed of the video. The tests he would give out were taken throughout the whole day. Talk about stress-free. Not sure how the format is for in-person. Anyway, he's a true gem<3

Mr. Vasta is the light amidst the storm clouds. I have pretty bad mental health issues, so I'm pretty bleak when I arrive at school. But when I enter his class, he always manages to put a smile on my face and makes everyone feel welcome. He teaches us what we need to know and is good at helping students who have questions.

He is a great teacher! His lectures are very enjoyable. He works out example problems rarely skipping steps. He makes sure everyone understands the material. About an hour into lecture he will go on tangents. Although the it is not graded, you really should keep up with the home work. You will likely do better on the exams than if you hadn't.

Vasta was a super chill teacher. I struggled with the class a bit due to my own misunderstandings and it was confusing to me. But, he actually is a pretty darn good professor.

He's pretty funny and understanding. He makes many lessons very simple to understand by employing methods or steps that make the equations quick and easy to understand. He doesn't try to trick you; the tests are more like homework, and all you have to do is practice and ask questions.

Vasta was one of my favorite professors at Cuesta so far. His lectures were clear and engaging and if you miss class he also posts videos of his lectures on his websites. He makes a lot of jokes and has little sayings that help you memorize the content.

It is a very self-motivated class, in that you need to show up to all 3 lectures per week and do all the 3 to 5 of the homework on your own time. I've taken Dr. Vasta's Calculus and Differential Equations class. He is one of the best professor I had at Cuesta College. He makes hard materials easier to understand. Definitely 10/5. I suggest taking his classes whenever you get a chance because you will be up for a great semester ride.

I failed my first semester of Calculus with a different teacher and I hated that class but then I retook the class with Vasta and I ended up loving the class. There are still some difficult topics and you need to have some solid algebra skills but he breaks it down to make everything less complicated while also making you laugh at times.

Professor Vasta is a great guy who keeps classes fun while still teaching you a great deal about Calculus. I would highly recommend you take him. No mandatory homework just five exams and a multiple-choice final. Class isn't technically mandatory as all lectures are on his website but make sure you talk to him if you do otherwise he may drop you.

He is by far the most genuine person you will meet on this campus, he goes above and beyond for his student in my humble opinion. I greatly appreciated the clear and conciseness of his lecture videos which include essentially all the tools you would ever need to become successful in ODELA! Quite honestly the best Professor I've had, and my favorite instructor even compared to those I've had in high school etc. He only gives tests, but it's only one every three weeks. Absolutely recommend taking odela with this man. Vasta teaches in a way that makes sure students will understand, instead of just by the book. Yes he only grades tests but as long as you do the homework then you will be perfectly fine, the tests are exactly like the homework.

Dr. Vasta is simply the best. ODELA was one of my favorite classes and he teaches it extremely well. Expect to put some time into this class because it can get pretty dense at times, especially since most people take this along with chemistry or physics. Only downside is, he doesn't do many applications. But overall, it's an awesome class.

I had a great time with Vasta's MATH 287 class! He's really funny and explains things very clearly. All of the lectures are online as well, so if you miss class those are a great way to catch up. There's one extra credit problem on each of the five midterms that are worth 5%. Ten out of ten I would absolutely recommend taking him.

His class is graded just based on tests and homework is optional, but doing the homework basically guarantees success. Everything was explained well, lectures were also available online to re-watch as needed

W teacher, entertaining and always made the class worth coming!! I only got a C because I didn't wanna take the final exam and have to learn 5 months worth of material in a few days.

Mr. Vasta is by far one of the best math professors at Cuesta. He is funny and keeps the class engaged. The hardest math I have ever taken but because he takes his time to really teach the class, he made it easy to learn. DO THE HOMEWORK! I can't thank him and Dr. Hilbert enough for this past semester.

Professor Vasta was an amazing teacher and explained the units very well! This class required no homework turned in, but would benefit you a lot to keep up with it. At the end of you keep your grades up you won't have to take the final! He was the best math teacher i've ever had, and truly cared for his students! I highly recommend!
