he is the best he is very helpful and very flexible and beleives in you if you show some effort he is not an easy teacher but he explains things so well that you'll fasinated by math he is very realistic and logical about life & understands your problems
over all a good teach, well rounded in his skills, gives great notes so pay attention. I learned by referring to the notes and his examples.Trys to make class looser and fun but be careful what you joke about what I mean is don't say "math is ridiculous" it upsets him. Take Yorba and take good notes
Good teacher if you have to take Math 170. Will prepare you for Math 180. Very helpful. Does not mind if you visit his office hours asking for help.
He simply does examples on the board with little or no explaination on why its done. Does not relate his own experience to the subject. He is otherwise a good intructor if you are a self disciplined learner.
Good teacher, very patient, not hard if you try. But do your homework it is worth allot.
hes so cooolllll become one of his hard working favorites and ur in!
Iloved him so much. He is really nice and answers any questions that you have. He makes the subject matter very easy. Do homework and study guides for tests.
very good teacher is very open to helping you succeed in his class. If you try he will see that and help you.
Good teacher...thought he would be hard, but he's on your side.
he is ssoo coool

he's very cool
Great guy, his class is still pretty tough but he actually honestly wants to see you succeed
challenging class but yorba is a good teacher and a great guy. He helps a lot in his office hours and tutoring center
Keep up on the homework and study the class notes. He'll really work with you if he sees you trying. GREAT GUY.
He cares about his students and is a very nice guy. Do the work and study for tests and you should be okay.
Overall, Yorba is a good teacher. Tests are 85% of your grade in this class! If you are a good test taker, than this class is for you, but if not, do not take this teacher! He makes it sound like he doesn't care if you don't come to class, like "it's up to you" sort of thing, but about 10 people got dropped in my class, including myself! :( no joke
If you have any disabilities (learning) don't take him. He doesn't care.
Great Teacher! Yorba is willing to go out of his way to help you out. He doesn't only just tell you what is going to be on the test, He'll help you out on the test. If you get stuck on a problem he will lead you in the right direction.
Yorba is nice. He teaches the material alright...and wants the class to participate a little bit. Stats is tough but he understands that. He checks homework when we take test. If you have any questions during a test ask him and he is willing to be extremely helpful. There is a project at the end of the year, but he is very helpful, one on one.
Mr. Yorba is a very intelligent man. He maybe intimidating but he is willing to help you out all the way. He make sure that you understand it and wants every student to succeed in his class.
A really challenging class, but he really does know his stuff, yes he may give little speeches here and there, but for the most part hes pretty good, he challenges you to do better
Best teacher I have had in a very long time! Math is not my subject but his teaching style is very clear and it makes it a lot easier to understand. He really does want you to succeed and is willing to take the time to help you out...even re-take an exam. Just put some effort into it and it will go a long ways
Horrible. His tests are killer. I was confused with everything.
He really cares if his students pass or not. He will go beyond what he has to to get you to pass the class. If you are having trouble and visit him during his office hours, he will consider it at the ending grade and maybe even drop one of your test scores. Great teacher.
great teacher! i've always had difficulty getting math, but his style of teaching made it very understandable...and i don't hate it anymore! he really cares if you get the material.
knows what he is talking about. gives out a pre-test that closely resembles the actual test
Good teacher. Tests accurately reflect the material he covers and he does a good job preparing you for said tests. The homework load is reasonable. He is laid back and approachable. I didn't notice him embarrassing any one. He seems happy to help. I recommend him to any calculus students.
The class is a diffifcult class but mr. yorba does a good job preparing you for the final--which is HARD. He teaches straight from the book, and most of the class is spent doing example problems. He is philisophical and gives many symbolic anecdotes. He gives a pre-test that is similar to the actual test. Work hard from the start and youll be fine.
This was one of the best math classes I've had. Mr. Yorba had lots of office hours and was always willing to answer questions. He always told us what was on the test and even gave specific examples and problems to us before hand. If you need calculus this is a great way to get it done.
super nice teacher. class is difficult but he is always willing to help. always there at office hours and makes sure you understand the topics. attendance is a must tho!
He will only help you if he likes you. Whenever I asked a question he would go around it and wouldn't even finish the question. He was useless in helping me. But when other students in the class had a question he was more than happy to help them. He is very unprofessional in that manner. Besides that he is very boring and goes off on success rants.
oh my god, he is TOUGH. homework is only 10 percent of your grade and the other 90 percent are TESTS which are hard.
HARD LIKE YOU WOULDNT BELIEVE
It is true that he will only help you if he likes you. Personally I thought he was a jerk, but i hear good things about him from everyone else. Iv'e had him twice and the second time, he was a jerk, its a 50/50 chance he'll like you, just take scott or frost
Pretty upfront and simple class and professor. Don't fall behind and you should be fine.
Not great at explaining concepts or at post homework questions, but he will try to help during office hours. (I went to the math lab often) He is fair, though and grades this class on a curve.
good math teacher. he lectures a lot about the learning system in general and compares the world to math/student/learning... but overall, fair teacher. just get your work done. he gives sample exams before test which are VERY helpful
The tests are fairly easy as long as you study, do all the homework, and attend class. He is helpful during class and during office hours. Only annoying thing about him is he goes off on tangents that have no relevance to stats.
I thought friendly, helpful, and intelligent Republicans did not exist until I met Mr. Yorba. His exams closely mirror the homework questions, and he does plenty of examples in class. Good guy!
Yorba is an excellent professor. He is a laid back guy and very accomadating. Practice tests are given the week before an exam and the exams are curved. Homework is manageable and great practice for his tests. Attendance is imperitive, he always takes role. Overall great professor and I would take him again!
Best stats teacher at scc! He was the 3rd stats teacher I took there and blew the others outta the water! He pounds each concept into ur head so u'd have to b a serious slacker to get a bad grade. Just don't let him see u txting in class, he'll lecture about it for the entire class.
People seem to like him for stats and such, but I do not recommend this professor for Math 080 at all. After the second week, he starts flying through the material so fast and when even top students ask for clarification, he berates them for not being able to keep up with lectures. Doesn't explain the material well at all.
teaches at a fair pace. but i wish he would stop his rants every morning. we could get more work done if he would just realize that the students are actually paying him to teach math. he gets very angry if students come in late and takes up all the time in the world to embarrass them, which goes off into another rant.
Class is not that easy, but it is definitely do-able. Prior knowledge of the 1st year of calc180 is needed to be able to keep up in this class. If you are willing to put in the time and effort, Mr. Y will work with ya, but he is not just going to hand you the grade you want. Need to come to class and try not to be late.Goes off on funny tangents
Yorba definitely gives more than enough ample opportunity for us to show we know the material. He is clear with what is expected from the first day of class. Yorba is the best professor I have had- with advice on life & teaching styles. If you speak up & he goes out of his way to help you! No Extra Credit but fair with grading and gives partial
Excellent teacher. I am an older student, but he is very willing to work with me, until I am where I need to be. Shows me respect because of my age. Took him for Math 060, 080, and Stats 219. He lectures alot on discipline, and he expects his students to do what they have to do to pass the class. He's a good guy, and very easy to work with.
Best Math teacher I've ever had! We have to admit that math is a pain in the ... but Mr. Yorba finds the way to encourage you and motivate your studying. He is very consistent: theory-exercices. He likes to answer questions and IF YOU SHOW INTEREST he will turn the class into a great environment for learning. You can pass his class. A=impossible:(
Mr. Yorba at first seemed like a pretty swell guy, however he is not a good teacher, He rants about things nobody cares about, he rushes through notes. He also believes in favoritism and is helpful to the ones he likes. Also he is WAY nicer to girls than guys, when girls are late he doesn't get mad, but when guys do he yells or makes a scene.
Make no mistake, this class is NOT easy. However, he has given so many opportunities to redo tests, and turn in homework late. This class will be stressful, it will be tough, and it will require that you show up to every lecture. Take him if you're ready for a good challenge, otherwise don't waste your time/money.
Waste time on his little rants, is more strict on attendance than it was in high school.
Honestly Guys, Im just rating this teacher so none of you guys will make the same mistake I did. He doesnt teach the material properly, he confuses you even more. I had to retake math 80 so i took it with him, I literally used my notes from previous math class. Take math 80 with williams shes awsome!!
Can agree with previous post. Favors women over men, will ask guys why there late and cause a scene. But chicks whom are consistently late escape, with just a glance. Seen it first hand. If your a guy taking his class, you really are playing the lotto.
Very helpful professor, really wants his students to succeed. Great at what he does. Offers students chances to make up bad grades. Tangents in math class are AMAZING; they help break the monotony of math. If you want a PROF that only talks about math take someone else.
The worst math teacher I've ever had. Doesn't explain the material, just does a hw problem from each section and then goes off on tangents unrelated to the class. He favorites the students that do well, and he will drop you if you miss too much. The last test and final make up around 60% of your grade so if your struggling beware. Take Francis!
It really sucks that yorba is the only teacher for geometry at SCC. He does go on random rants to waste class time because he has the syllabus pre-planned and the way he teaches the class is by practice problems so if you don't get it you are screwed. Take at SAC with someone else so u don't waste your time.
Hard class but he teaches it well if you're willing to put in the work. The class was second semester calculus, and a background in math is a must.
HE IS NOT HARD IF YOU PAY ATTENTION AND SHOW UP. HE LETS YOU RETAKE THE TESTS IF YOU DO BAD SO THAT HELPS A TON. DONT BE LATE!
HE IS NOT HARD IF YOU PAY ATTENTION AND SHOW UP. HE LETS YOU RETAKE THE TESTS IF YOU DO BAD SO THAT HELPS A TON. DONT BE LATE!
Horrid teacher! The worst on the planet!!! Does not explain ANYTHING! I had to learn everything on my own. Don't take this teacher, he does NOT teach.
I really learned a lot in this class. I like his lecture style. He does problems out of the book in lecture and it makes it a lot easier to do the homework. His test were really easy and so was the final. I finished this class with a 98%. Highly recommended!
Very helpful and reasonable. Take him if you want a better understanding of the class. I added the class 2 weeks late, recieved a 61% on the first test, and got 100% on the rest. Great teacher.
He's one of my favorites, his class is NEVER boring :)
This class is definately not easy, but prof. Yorba makes the difference. He teaches you exacly what he wants you to know. Tests are very close to the homework problems and study guide. He is funny and loves to go off the subject making the class less stressfull. If you don't fall behind, go to MASH and do the homework, you'll be fine.
Best teacher for this class. take it with him!
He was an amazing teacher. He doesn't have unrealistic expectations. He collects homework only before every test, so save them. I loved it this way. It wasn't like everything was due everyday. He gives practices tests out and if you study those you'll pass no problem. I loved him. He's so funny and he is so nice.
Good man, good teacher. His expectations are clear and precise. Teaches exactly what he expects you to know. May seem a little unorganized at times and likes to go on rants every now and then, but overall a solid teacher who wants success from his students.
I love this teacher. He was very helpful and nice. He truly cares for his sudents. Go everday to class and do homework and practice test and you will pass. I loved this class so much. Would definately take him again.
He really tries to help!He doesn't mind repeating things and makes math fun. Lets you turn in homework whenever and Lets you retake a test! He is the best math teacher i have ever had but you have to work because math is not easy!
Professor Yorba ceems to really care about student learning the material. He give students every opportunity to pass his course. The material is difficult and requires study, but he'll explain anything you don't understand. He tends to get a little advanced when he lectures, but will explain what he did if someone asks. Awesome math professor.
He's a really fun teacher who tries to take the boring dryness out of math. He may veer off topic with his stories but he is really helpful and accepting to questions. He grades fairly and is really easy to talk to. I got a C+ in his class but it was a condensed summer course... (summer=beach) Would take his class again!
A really great teacher. His lectures were easy to follow and understand, and he goes through LOTS of examples to make sure the topics are clear. In 105 he allowed us to have cheat sheets with whatever we wanted on them for use during the tests, which was a HUGE help. Sometimes he goes off topic, but he tries to make the class interesting and fun.
I took Math 70, 160, 170, and 185 under Professor Yorba. He is by far my favorite math teacher during my experience at SCC. He answers questions, helps greatly during office hours, and teaches the material well during class. If you are serious about understanding mathematics, then I recommend having Professor Yorba as your teacher.
He was a great professor! Loved his teaching strategies. He is one of those professors that actually care about you being successful in this class. He is also very honest. He loves student participation! I highly recommend him.
TRICKY QUESTIONS... HE PUT A QUESTION LIKE NO IT IS OR YES ITS NOT, STUFF LIKE THAT DIDN'T DO WELL WOULD PERSONALLY RECOMMEND ANOTHER TEACHER FOR STATS
Mr. Yorba was an excellent calculus teacher. I took the summer session and he taught the material very clearly and was very helpful. He is one of my favorite teachers I've had.
I found his tests relatively easy, and straight forward. There weren't really any "tricky" questions as someone else put it. He's a big picture guy, and he's a fair grader. Highly recommend.
Yorba is an awesome professor! He goes over lots of examples so everything is clear. He's a very fair grader and his tests are reasonable. He does go off topic sometimes but that keeps class interesting. Don't forget to take your math roofies!
Prof Yorba made the way through calculus more smooth for me. I have no more anxiety for math. Without him forcing verbally, I worked hard to get an A. Although he is not picky on attendance, students cannot make it through without being in the class. So, be there and get the notes. You can use all of your resources on quizzes but not on the tests.
Really helps students understand Statistics concepts by framing it in easy-to-understand ways. Goes through a lot of homework questions with students to make sure everyone is on track, and 4 tests throughout the sem to make sure you're on track.
He's one of my favorite professors, and i normally hate math. Take him if you can
Good professor. He was very clear about what was expected on his tests. The notes we took in class came right from the textbook and he made sure to do an example from every section he assigned for homework. It made the class much easier to follow.
Second time taking statistics and Prof Yorba was amazing. Make sure you ask hw questions and show interest. He will appreciate it. He wants you to pass and will put in extra effort to help out. Goes on tangents a lot just about life, but besides that I would definitely recommend him.
Retook calc and chose Prof Yorba. He is a great professor, super nice and is clear about what he wants. His tests are straightforward and he did a problem from each section of our homework so we would know how to approach our homework. Highly recommend.
Yorba is an excellent professor. Algebra has never been so clear to me. He is always wiling to answer questions, and is flexible on due dates as long as you communicate with him.
I am currently taking Stats with him and he is great! The subject itself is difficult and I am not doing well because I haven't put the effort. Compared to the other professor's teaching this course, he is by far the easiest! Just study and do your homework! It is not an easy class! You slack off, you fail. But take this course with him! Sweet Guy!
Mr. Yorba is a wonderful math teacher. His lectures are very clear and easy to follow. Lots of homework, but you must do it in order to understand stats. Do not miss class or you will fall behind. He is extremely fair and will be there for you. A Very nice guy, I highly recommend him.
Yorba is a good man and a good, understanding teacher. He wants you to succeed and pass his class. Don't leave at the break and do all the homework. Go to his office hours and don't be on your phone in class.
