Professor Caughran is the best! He truly cares about each of his students and wants to see them succeed. His classroom style is flipped, so be prepared to read the textbook. While this might result in a little more work, it definitely made me know the material better when it comes to the test. Don't let the class being a little hard scare you away!

Professor Caughran is a good teacher and has great jokes and examples. However, if you are taking a subject that he teaches with another professor, it is very difficult. It is clear that he is in charge of grading and is very picky when grading the tests. The tests were not indicative of what we learned in class.

You are expected to learn everything yourself through the textbook and come to class ready to answer questions. I would not recommend the class if you are someone who has limited background knowledge of chemistry. If I could go back I would take the gen chem version because they have actual lectures in class and the grading scale is much better.

If you are someone with a limited background in chemistry do not take this class. You basically have to teach yourself everything with limited practice of the content. The test also dont reflect the content he shows in class.

Mr. Caughran is an amazing person and cares about his students, but I did not like his flipped classroom. If you want to take him, make sure you are EXTREMELY disciplined and will read the textbook before class, or else you will fall very behind. If I could go back, I would take regular chem instead of honors because of the stress of this class.

Such a great professor and the classroom was always an amazing learning requirement. Chem is hard, but if you put in the hours outside of class, it super doable. I was always bad at Chem in high school, but I really learned so much in this class.

Couldn't say enough about Mr. Caughran. He is awesome. Chemistry is hard, but Mr. Caughran is on your side throughout the whole semester. If you have the chance to take him, do it!!!

I hated this class, but not because of Mr. Caugran. I struggled heavily and he was only there to help me. I would say that I learned a lot about chemistry even though it was brutal. Also warning this is a flipped classroom which I personally have never experienced before and I found it very difficult to learn this way as an auditory learner.

Caughran was a great prof to learn to study for exams from. I made Cs and Bs on the tests (lowest is dropped) but managed get a high A on the final which brought me up to an A in the class. Do all the practice problems offered in the textbook (or as many as you can) to prep for unit tests. He's likes to talk with his students so go to office hours!

Chemistry is super hard, but I would take it with professor Caughran every time if I could. He cares so much about his students and truly wants us to succeed. There is a lot of homework, but it helps a lot for the tests. If you work hard in this class you will do well.

Only take this class if you are ready to practice exercises and read content every day. Study from the first day as the first test was really fair and doable, I don't know about after that because I withdrew ... READ BEFORE CLASS & KEEP UP OR U WILL BE LOST. Dr. Caughran also lectures in a very specific cadence but he is very funny and kind.

Professor Caughran is probably one of the only caring professors in the Chem Department here at UGA. While his Honors Chem 1 class is extremely difficult, if you take advantage of his resources, you should be able to get by. His classroom is a flipped classroom and it is almost imperative that you read the textbook.

I would not recommend taking his class, especially as an incoming first year. He expects his class to take up most of your time and uses a flipped classroom method. I would recommend just taking the regular version instead of the honor version.

Caughran clearly understands chemistry extremely well. But he is so tied to his flipped classroom method that it becomes detrimental to the students' learning. It is very much his way or the highway.

Mr. Caughran is super funny and does cool experiments during class. He follows the flipped classroom so reading before class is important, but much easier if you took AP Chem for background. Heavy on homework and reading. Tests are pretty difficult, but the final is easier. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he does clicker questions during class.

Professor Caughran's class is challenging, but engaging. The flipped classroom approach takes some getting used to, but the resources, like the textbook and unstuckstudy, really help with exam prep. Stay on top of the work and you'll do well.
