very good teacher. helpful and nice. has a whole webpage for his students where he posts work and announcments of quizes and tests. lets you know if he will collect homework, only does a few times a semester. explains the math really well. i highly recommend him!
hes a cool dude, he teaches well, and is willing to help if udont understand
No Comments
He goes to quickly on notes and he not very helpful.
one of the best teaches I ever had put the fire back in math for me he was very helpfull and makes sure you know the info before giving ou a test he is great.
Examples very detailed to the point and he is willing to help you any time
He is THE BEST professor in the school, byfar. He is helpful, and presents the material in so many ways, there is one you are bound to understand. TAKE HIS CLASSES IF YOU CAN!! You will not regret it!
He is a very nice teacher and he makes things VERY clear so you can really understand them.
He makes this class go by quickly at times, but other times it's just boring. But all in all a good teacher.
Very helpful, explains everything very clear, does excellent reviews in and outside of class
Prof Glickman is an excellent instructor. Goes at a good pace and makes sure all students understand material. Does good reviews for quizes and tests. Problems on quizes and tests are exactly from review sessions. Always willing to help during office hours. Highly recommend. By the end of this class you will be a better math student, garunteed!
great guy.. explains things thoroughly.. always around to help.. i highly recommend him..
Clear, concise and infinitely patient.
Mr. Glickman is a great Math professor. Allows formula sheets, graphing calculators and attendance is not compulsory. Just make sure you pay attention and take good notes!
Tough class... I can't really say I studied much or did the textbook homework. I made sure I took good notes and looked them over prior to exams. The take home assignments also help a great deal for exam preparation. I would recommend Prof. Glickman to anyone looking at taking Calculus I.
joe is very clear and precise .. willing to woork with you and understands his best characteristic is his teaching ability i understood evreything
I admit I barely studied for the class. He was extremely helpful and posted up the notes on his website and if you earned an A in the class you didn't have to take the final. Really nice guy.
Great teacher...cheat sheet can be used during tests which are vital..If your going to take Calc make sure you have him.
glickman is so helpful with his notes, he'll go over any questions on the homework. although homework is given every night, he doesn't collect it. he has takehome quizes every other week and he has in class test that makes up your grade. his online site math.hvcc.edu is extremely helpful. he says he doesn't let students make up test, but he does.
Takes a difficult class and makes it more manageable.Very willing to give extra help and encouragement. The best math teacher I've ever had.
I hated math before taking precalc and THEN calc with Glickman. I no longer attend HVCC, but he is by FAR the most helpful, caring professor I have ever had. Knows how to teach effectively and genuinely wants students to succeed. Take him and you will actually learn and not be miserable in a math course!!
Beats me why a Physics/Applied Mathematician would teach a course based in logic and theory. Glickman is a nice guy, but when it came down to it, he simply did not have command of the material. Long pauses and frequent referrals to the textbook were all too common. I recommend anyone serious about math to choose an alternative.
Kind guy. He makes learning easy, but moves at a fast pace. Lots of homework which needs to be done to do well. Puts notes online which is handy. Always has practice problems before an exam. You can use a cheat sheet for every exam which saves you. Very professional.
nice, guy, is kind of a tech geek, missed 2 classes to go to flordia and watch the space shuttle launch... anyways hes cool and looks like mr. simmons from hey arnold lol
Excellent teacher and very fair with grading. Lets you use cheat sheets for exams, which is nice in the short run but cripples you when you cant use them. He is a very fair grader, but makes exams extra hard/tricky which brings down your grade. Final was a beast, brought down everyone's grade.
Im not sure what a lot of people are talking about his quizzes are easy, tests are extra hard, and no use of cheat sheets used in pre-calc
First half of the semester was really tough, but after the midterms it became lots of fun. It's a difficult class, but rewarding when you get it right.
Great Teacher when it comes to explaining things. Is very understanding and will take time out to help you when you need it. Scheduled 3hour study sessions for tests which was of great help. Over GREAT teacher and I would recommend his to any and everyone.
Extremely helpful. He explains things through so it's easy to understand. Sometimes speeds through notes. Hands down the best math professor I've ever had.
I had really cool professors for Pre-Calc and Calc1 but he beats them both! You can always count on him for help
Pretty tough course as it is,but he's better than the other professors I've had. Not terrible but not super easy either.
Great professor. I'm terrible at math and lazy so I did poorly in his class but he's a fantastic teacher. Patient, has command of the material and always available for help. The course is outlined in detail from the get-go.
He's an amazing teacher, very patient and understanding. He always gives you more chances and even if you've been slacking in his class and being lazy he still treats you like a student who is trying to get the A and help you. He doesn't like it when you're late to class.
WORST MATH TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! Everytime I went to him for help he talked down to me and he made me feel stupid. He does his lessons too fast and loses your interest very fast. I've had a lot of teachers in my life and he by far is the worst teacher I ever had. I would not recommend him to anyone.
Professor Glickman is an excellent teacher. Really covers all bases, and truly cares that you succeed in his class. Homework was optional, besides a few take-home worksheets. Quizzes and tests were often, but usually 5 or 10 questions and relatively easy. He does like to crunch some stuff in the last five minutes so be prepared to stay for 50 mins
Glickman is absolutely the best teacher, he is very fair, patient and understanding. I highly recommend you visit him during office hours because he will help you like there is no tomorrow and would appreciate your interest. His 50 min class is 55 min but great teacher- he takes attendance and based on it he will decide whether you deserve a curve
I took this class last semester with Glickman. I'm a terrible student when it comes to math, I never understand it. He's a good teacher, he knows his subject very well and will help you out if you need it. I felt like he didn't really care about my grades though I was doing poorly. Overall good teacher, but I wish I did better in his class.
He starts with fundamentals so everyone understands before he gets into the more difficult stuff. He will answer any questions you have and has a lot of patience. He will accommodate you if you notify him ahead of time. Go to class, pay attention, do the work, go for office hours if you don't understand something and you'll be fine. Def recommend.
understanding, helpful, clear, patient. I recommend.
Before beginning new material , he briefs the class for a couple of minutes with examples from the previous lecture. He lectures with with clarity and is concise. He exposes all pitfalls to avoid. Uploads all his lectures online for review. He's great! Highest recommendation!
Math sucks, lets just get that out of the way. But Glickman is there to help. Office hours are great and he really helps. His teaching style is clear cut and he goes over anything you don't understand. A little heavy on the homework, but doable an I'm pretty lazy. He's a really nice guy.
Professor Glickman is one of the best professors i have ever met for math. He is really very helpful. The way he explains everything, its very clear and he is always ready to help the students outside of class. I would love to take my other math courses with him. He is just an awesome professor.
Professor Glickman was one the best teachers I've ever had. His lectures are very well prepared, and you'll get his undivided attention during office hours or even after class. I've had very few teachers that care as much about the success of their students. That being said, you still need to put in the work. I highly recommend taking his class.
Not a bad teacher but the way he words his test are hard. He will tell you to practice things that won't be on the test. I would take his class again.8
His lectures are long but he makes it so a 5th grader can understand any material. Which in my mind for math is a good thing. He is a nice guy and offers help whenever you need it. He loads all his lectures and answers to tests and quizzes online which helps a ton. I would recommend you do the homework, you will do much better on tests.
Professor Glickman's teaching methods are solid and easy to understand. He always gives you a break when you are straight up with him. I found him to be very kind and helpful and always willing to help. He always seems super excited in class and he teaches good memory aids. I found his tests to me fair to medium easy. He helped me a lot.
Joel Glickman is the best Professor I'd ever had! Very easy to understand and follow along. This professor would ALWAYS help you out, don't be afraid to ask. To pass this class you have to always show up to class and do your HW. I would definitely recommend him for math 150, or even calc. Awesome guy!!!
I hate math with a passion, but Glickman was a very good professor. He gives optional hw every night, it really helps your grade on tests if you do it. i wish i had done more! If you struggle with math, he is definitely a good professor to have, he's got good office hours and is willing to help, you just have to put in the effort
Professor Glickman is a fantastic lecturer and has a real zest for mathematics. He was extremely helpful during office hours and was always receptive to my visits and ALWAYS willing to explain. He had to miss a class so he made an hour long YouTube video on series. He also provides students with graded take home assignments that mimic real tests
I have never been good at math but I actually ENJOY going to Glickman's class. It fly's by! He is always willing to help and will reply to an email within minutes even if it's 9 P.M. Attendance isn't mandatory but highly recommended. Do the review he provides before quizzes and exams. If you are willing to put in effort than take Glickman's class!
Nicest person you will ever meet. He is real personable and as long as you do the homework you should be okay. Best professor at the school
Fantastic professor. Explains things very well, makes it very easy to understand. Scans and posts all notes on his website so you don't have to take notes in class, you can just listen and still be able to look back later. Tests and quizzes are super easy. Responds to emails within minutes. Will help with anything you need.
He knows the subjects hes teaching very well but cannot teach it. Very awkward man and it seems everyone in my class hates him. Will take off 1/4 of a point for the smallest things. Teaches you things that will be on the test, a day or two BEFORE the test. Tests are very hard and worded poorly and will contain some things he barely even went over.
Wow, just read the previous review. I was in the same class and had a completely different experience. Yeah, he reviews material a day or so before an exam, but he's been teaching that same material weeks before the exam. Yes, you gotta pay attention, but I found him to be a great teacher and learned a lot. He's also very approachable for help.
I am easily the world's worst math student, but he got me through this course. The curriculum itself is very quiz and test heavy with little room for extra credit, but he is a VERY good teacher and recognizes when you are working hard. Brilliant and interesting dude, and very kind as well.
Professor Glickman is a good teacher. I took the hybrid Calc I course and really enjoyed it. He knows the material very well and explains it in a clear and understandable way. The tests aren't hard if you keep up with the lectures. Also, he posts a lecture for each topic in words and a video which I found extremely helpful.
90% of grade is tests/quizzes with no room for extra credit, but the material on tests is clear. His lectures are clear and well explained but sometimes he rushes. The average Final exam grade was a 57%, but there was a small curve adding about 7-8%. Out of 32 students, there were 4 As and 4 Bs, so 75% of people got C or lower. I got B. Recommend
This man got me through calculus. I took his class online, but I saw him more than most of my other professors. He made himself available for 8 office hours. If you think you can cheat out this Professor do NOT try. I heard others say he will find out. The graded consists of 20% 25-minute online quizzes, 5% DB, 10% HW, 35% Exams, And 30% live final
He is a very good professor. He is very organized. He cares about students and always willing to help. He doesn't require you to do homeworks. He gives takehome assignments. The final was easy. The tests were exactly what he taught. He loves answering questions and helping students, and sometimes gives extra credit.
Professor Glickman is great! He is really brilliant but he doesnt look down on other people for asking simple questions. I took a hybrid course with him. His videos are very well put together and go over each topic thoroughly. The only problem is that he would go over the same info in class. Overall he was a great calculus professor.
He is the best math professor I have ever had. He made Calc II one of my favorite classes. The tests are exactly what he tells you to study for, and he always shows you the derivations of various formulas. You can tell he is passionate about teaching. 10/10 would take him again for every math class.
Best teacher I have ever had online! What sets him apart from other professors though is he goes above and beyond to help students. He responds to emails quickly with very helpful & detailed answers, spends nights and weekends doing review sessions before an exam, and utilizes blackboard very well. Expects a lot from his students in return though!
10/10!!! I took the class asynchronous. Prof. Glickman offered his support throughout the entire course. He had comprehensive recorded lectures and offered office hours twice a day, four days a week. I was constantly in office hours asking questions and we really connected. He answered every question I had completely and seemed to genuinely care.
Simply put, the best math professor in the area! I took his course online and the recorded lectures were top-notch. Can't go wrong with his course.
2/10 would not recommend. If you have no personal life or job and take no other classes than go for it but the work load is crazy and he like to have us take tests on Friday so cancel your plans.
Horrible experience, lacks even basic knowledge of Mathematics. Impersonal, rude and do not recommend.
I'm bad at math but managed to do fine in this class. He's nice and cares about his students and is always available to answer questions in class. He also has take-home assignments which are basically the tests, there are also review days right before the test. If you're struggling on a test he allows you to finish it during his office hours.
The first and only class I've struggled with at HVCC. Glickman is very intelligent but goes way too fast, often it's hard to keep up with his lectures and when I've asked a question, he doesn't quite give a clear answer. I get very nervous about tests too as its so hard to keep up with all the info, normally an A student but my class median is a B.
Mr. Glickman was one of the best teachers I've ever had. He was very good at explaining how the math worked in a way that we could understand it. He recorded all his classes so you could go back and watch them at any time. He also had great review classes before tests. His final review was so good that I got a 100. He was also very approachable.
Homework is helpful in getting comfortable with class material. Has multiple ways of teaching each subject. Understands that students are human beings. There was one question on an exam that too many people could not do, and mentioned that he realized he did not spend enough time on the related material. Wiped it off exam if it hurt your grade
He moved quickly, did not give instruction, gave too much homework, and graded our work in bulk at the end, giving us 60s, with no comments. He was a harsh grader for the smallest mistakes, even though he made many mistakes in the examples he gave us. I also know that this was not only my experience with the course but others as well.
One of the best professors I've had. He responds to questions very quickly and in detail over email. He uses freely available online textbooks, so we didn't have to spend any extra for the learning materials. Genuinely great professor who can tell when you're really putting in effort to learn the material, and he puts in effort to teach as well.
Joel is what all teachers should strive to be. I felt he actually wanted his students to learn the material and had put real effort into his class. Something that sadly a lot of professors don't do. I tend to get anxious about talking to people and asking questions but every interaction I had with him was pleasant, and helpful.
great professor. If you put in the work, you can pass with an A because he really wants to pass. He has review for every exam that is literally the exam itself. The only con is that the homeworks are super long and very difficult to do but prepares you mentally for the exams which allows you to understand the concept of everything.
I took a math 180 12- week sprint calc class with him for dual enrollment credit. He answered emails very quickly, and was always happy to answer any questions I had. As the class was online, he was also very good at accommodating times to take tests if you could not take it on the day/ time it was set for.
Great professor, cared for his students, and gave many opportunities for reviews. He was willing to put in as much work as you were willing to put in as well. He can teach in many different ways and will help guide you with anything you're confused about. I took this course online because this was the only one available to have him as the teacher.
An amazing Calculus 1 instructor! He provides very informative lectures, and he does a superb job explaining theory. He's responsive in returning emails and he's extremely accessible for any questions. I can't recommend him highly enough!
If you want to learn Calculus, he is the professor to learn from. Awesome professor. He really cares about his students and emphasizes learning new knowledge. Responds to emails quickly and helps many students during office hours prior to and after class. His Zoom reviews are literal "gold mines" to his tests. You will succeed if you participate.
I can't say too much as I had him online and didn't create much of a teacher-student relationship but from what I saw he was very flexible with his online students. His lectures were very clear and well-taught. Very easy and nice to reach out to for help. I don't see why someone would want to take his class if they needed calc.
I took the Hybrid course for Calc 1, which was put together very well. Glickman is passionate about teaching and cares about his students. If you tell him you're struggling, he'll help you. Put in the work for this class, and you should do well. However, you have to do a TON of online homework each week, so be aware of that.
What really blew me away about Professor Glickman was how he seems to bend over backwards to help his students succeed. Every test had a 2-hour Zoom review beforehand, and he encouraged anyone who didn't understand any homework problems to reach out via email. That's one downside, though - there's a lot of homework, but it's definitely manageable.
He was always available and responded quickly to emails, which made it easy to reach out for help. he was clear with his instructions and overall a very supportive and knowledgeable professor. Highly recommend
Glickman is an amazing professor who wants everyone to succeed. He was lenient on opening up online quizzes that were past due and once or twice gave me credit for a question that I typed in wrong but still got the correct answer. His lecture videos allowed me to grasp the basics of calc hw and for harder stuff I emailed him. You must put in effort
Amazing Teacher! Lectures are clear and on-point. Test material is relevant. He holds optional office hours and reviews before each test, responds to emails and does everything he can to help you succeed. There's a lot of homework, but it's actually helpful and not redundant, and he's happy to give an extension if you give him a good reason.
Glickman is the reason I was able to pass precalc after failing it before. He's the only teacher I'd take for anything calc related at hvcc. He's always available to help answer questions through email, gives reviews before exams, and teaches in an organized/structured way. You can tell he enjoys teaching and really wants to help students succeed!
