no textbook use at ALL.lots of group work.reading.writing. 3 papers worth 20 pts each. essays are easy as long as you have time to write. participation is important in his class. good class environment.
Excellent, verly helpful and always available to help his students. if you can't decide take prof. Joel's class you won't regret it.
VERYYYY GOOD PROFESSOR.. ALWAYS AVAILABLE TO HIS STUDENTS.. HELPS IN EVERY WAY. A LOT OF GROUP WORK AND NOT TOO MANY DEADLINES
He is a very nice, friendly professor! Always helpful and available to meet with the students at his office, library, coffee shop and even the subway. Not too many deadlines except one major project. Take him!
Joel was a great professor. A lot of writing but always available to help his student. I love his class and your not going to regret it! one of the BEST professor!
joel is a kool guy....very helpful....extra credits where ever needed....he is not very strict at all...he is down to earth and kool....but wen eva a project iis suppose to b sub, mmitted u dont gotta stress cuz he dont stress....once all is handed in at d end of d semester its all good....i got an A in his class i recommend dis professor
VERY GOOD PROFESSOR> TAKE HIM
Joel Kuszai seems to be one of those rare types of professors who really wants to be make the effort to know his students and not brush them off like most professors. He seems to want to make the class enjoyable and fun, and I really hope that he does.
Joel seems to be a really cool professor and all, but the only problem that I have is that his class go pass by rather slowly at times and goes a little overboard with the jokes. Other than that he is a very laid back professor who attempts to make teaching fun.
I don't know what to really say about Joel since he seems like a very cool guy to be around outside the classroom, but I find the class very boring. I will admit that Joel is a laid backed and easy going professor, but I feel like the class serves no interest to me since there is too much crappy old literature to read.
Despite of Joel's laid back attitude, I find this class to be one of the the most boring classes that I have ever taken. I also find him to be very disorganized when it comes to grading assignments and handing them back to the students. I feel like nothing gets done in this class and need to distract myself to not fall asleep.
I find this class to be very boring and the worst two hours of my life.
Nice professor who is easy going, but I feel so damn bored in this class. I feel like I don't get anything productive out of the class.
joel is the best professor you will find in qcc. ---take him!!!
Nice Professor and easy going, but very boring.
A rather easy class to get an A, but I wish that the material in English literature, but the projects can be a bit creative. Kuszai is a nice person and all, but can be a bit of a procrastinator when it comes to grading.
I felt that English Literature was one of the most boring classes that I ever had since I felt that it lacked creativity and excitement. Joel was actually pretty flexible with the projects and work, but takes forever to hand back work.
He was deff a awsome teacher...i loved his class..and he tried really hard to help u in any way possible
Joel seemed like the type of professor that is willing to help the students, but I felt like he was a talker and a bit stubborn at times. The class was easy though, but felt like a huge pain in my ass.
Joel is a cool professor. He doesnt like it when you're late to class so be on time (even though he sometimes isnt). if you just do the work he asks you to do then there's no reason why he wont give you a good grade. Writing 2-3 short stories really isnt that bad when you go with the flow. Just show that you put effort into it and you'll get an A.
It is true that Joel doesn't like it when students come late, and I don't blame him for saying so. I was rather easy to get an A in the class, since there wasn't really much to do in terms of quizzes. He did give plenty of projects for students to do, to boost up their grade. One of the easier, if not the more interesting professors to take.
changes due dates 2 much.unreliable.wont hand back rough drafts for long periods of time.talks a lot of jiberjabber.crucial classtime is wasted.cant count on him to take initiative.changes curriculum 2much.ull never kno wut he wants from u. I gota A in the class and im still confused as of what he wanted just save yourself the stress!its not worthi
I do agree that the biggest problems with Joel Kuszai is that he can be a bit stubborn and it does take a long time to receive back work. He is a friendly professor and all. I felt the biggest problem with his class was that there was no structure and it felt like we didn't do anything. I love the fact that the final was take home.
I do agree that this is a nice professor, but he doesn't seem to conduct the time very well. He takes forever to give back papers and he seems to be more of a talker than a doer for me. Sometimes I felt the class dragged at times, since he talks a lot.
I thought he was a great teacher. He would help you no matter what. There was alot of writing but it wasn't that bad. We used the website alot. He is also funny but dont be late to his class, play with cell phones, or interrupt anyone when they speak
He was such a good teacher thati took him for english 102
While I will admit that the class was easy, I felt that it was rather boring. He seemed rather disorganized when it came back to handing back work and seemed to not keep his promises well.
Prof Kuszai is a different breed of teacher in the Queensborough catalog. This class is designed for students that have clear interests in political, social and cultural issues and are willing to take initiative toward developing ideas & projects concerning chosen field of interests. lots of interaction in class, very energized class discussion.
I will admit that he is one of those different type of professors that doesn't go by the usual by the book procedure. It was almost as though the person in the class outside of the class was different ways. In some ways, it was almost like a discussion class and not really an english class so much.
kind of unstructured class. but he takes any idea in writing. different teaching style, new world and not that hard! also he's very kind and respectful but no text in class and being late!
It is indeed a rather unusual english class. It doesn't really have the usual structure that the other english classes have. He is a rather nice guy and all but I wish that it would have been more organized.
It is indeed a rather simple and easy going class. It felt as though I didn't really do anything in there.
He wasn't very organized and left the class very confused. No structure in his classes and makes you plan out your semester. DONT TAKE HIS CLASS UNLESS YOU HAVE TO!
Do not take this class unless you have to. He has no structure and makes up the class as the weeks go on then grades you based on how he feels. There is a lot of writing and unnecessary research.
In many ways, it felt like a class in which you didn't really learn anything. The only reason I ended up in the class, was because the timing worked out and I thought he was going to be a good teacher. I felt rather bored in the class and felt that my time was wasted.
cool proff... come on time because he doesn't like late....very helpful
A really nice professor and all but felt that I didn't really get anything out of the class.
Well, Prof Joel is very open minded. You really can see that he loves literature. Basically we wrote essays, and talked a lot! It was extremely boring and i don't recommend taking anyone's 4 hour Lit class, just because of the course not the Prof. It was easy though, show him you're dedicated to getting your work done and you should get an A.
I will admit that the class itself was rather boring since it felt as though hardly anything was going on and it felt like one big discussion group which in some ways it was good. However I will admit that this class wasn't really that difficult.
he is a really nice professor that understand his students.wanting everyone to get a good grade while keep telling us to do our works.i think u should take him.even though there is a fact that he's talking a lot in class and u might feel a bit of boring in times.however, it is worth taking because u will learn something while doing several essays.
I will admit that the downside to Joel is that he is not very good with giving back work. However he is very engaging with his students and he seems to rather popular. He can be a bit dull at times but I will admit that it was just good to get a different perspective on writing.
Don't mind the comments because I did learn a lot of things about literature and I've learned more from his class then any other English class I took. Sure he can be be unclear sometimes, but nobody is perfect, that's why you ask questions. You will write A LOT but it's worth an A which I got. Wish I had him for 101.
I do wish that Joel would have been a little more constructive while teaching the class since it was a little boring at times. However what was great about him was how he seemed like a rather easy going guy and the students loved. He sure did have his own unique way of teaching.
Papers were worth 1-5 points. Final paper was worth 20. You need 100 for an A. Doesn't keep a grade book so make sure you're keeping track! Basically im at the last week of my semester & he won't tell me my final grade because I'm pretty sure he doesn't even know what it is. Easy class, fun sometimes but really annoying when it comes to your grade
Professor Kuszai has an engaging personality, but unfortunately lacks structure. Lectures are opinion-based. His 8 2-3 page Papers do not follow academic standards; he grades us like we are in high-school- so it is an easy A because it is not challenging at all. Discussions are not productive; few people spoke. Also he doesn't keep a grade book.
Honestly didn't improve my writing at all. Nice guy, just way too lenient.
There was no point to this class. He pretty much just talks all class long and at the end of the semester, he gives you a sheet to grade yourself. He doesn't take attendance either.
Love this professor as long as you keep up with your assignments easy A and can enjoy every but of class
Beware he gives a lot of unless writing assignments. Which are do within the following week. But good with lectures.
Supposedly he's willing to help, but to be quite honest all he does is joke around. He only cares for students who aren't struggling.
I had this class at 7:10-9 on Mondays and Wednesdays and despite being tired from work late the night before, the energy that he had given off was great! With his analogies and examples had made lecture so worth it. I would definitely recommend him to another student, and also take him for another english course if offered.
Prof Kuszai was an wonderful teacher. I took his English 101 class for Fall 2015 and I Passed it was an easy A. He is willing to help you if you have any problems. Only downfall is that he gives a lot of mini essays to do, but that's where your points adds up. If you are on track with your points, you might not have to do the finals, like me.
He talks a lot, I had him for ENG 101 and 102, I would take again he's so helpful, and best part no final for his class !!!, He didn't even require a textbok
His lectures were super long and in the end i still wouldnt understand what the point of making his lecture . expect some work. maybe a 2 page paper every week. and a couple in class essays. and 1 big project. Hes alright. gives off the i care attitude but in the end, wont bother if its not done his way. allows 1 absence.
NONONO LOL. dropped this class... i just couldnt take the utterly useless lectures.. i gotta say i really hated the class.. half the time you wont even know what he's talking about cause it gets so off topic.. he'll pretend it helps a lot when it DONT. EXPECT a 2pgs+ paper due EVERY week. Hates when your late and class is mandatory. good luck
This professor is like chalk on a chalk board. If you take his 7:10 class you will regret it every single day. He expects so much from an english 101 class. He expects a 3 page paper every other day. He also expects you to love english and participate everyday. Save your self and pick another professor.
Professor Kuszai does give lot of work, but helps you in every way possible. He is also flexible, as long as he knows you are trying. He is also funny and caring.
Easily one of the best teachers I've had yet, doesn't give you a hard time. Understands that you have other responsibilities and is extremely helpful you just have to be open and talk to him. If you try even the slightest you'll pass theres so many opportunities, wish there were more teachers like him.
He barely teaches you anything in this course. All you do is write 3-4 pages every week and expects you to submit it.
He is literally one of the worst english teachers ever. He does not teach anything about this course and just talks about random stupid things all the time and then assigns you stupid 2 page essays every week and expects you to do it. He also gives you 3 essay projects and 1 final and expects to much in the papers. DO NOT TAKE HIM. YOU WILL REGRET
if you do all your work and get good grades in class he will still fail you if you miss a few classes. He likes saying at the end of the semester you missed 4 classes or more and gives no prior warning or a starfish- Shawn Charles
Literally the worse. He tells you to "write whatever you would like to write" and still fails you. He says its not what he asked for. You could go to his office hours and ask for help and he would say "just write, just write your thoughts" but he fails you for not writing what he asked. I wish John Yi had an english 102 course.
Excellent professor. Imagination is the key. He enjoys reading the work he gives if imagination is used. He doesnt give alot of work. Youd be surprised how easy the essays are if you use your imagination. The first professor i had that didnt expect "peer-review" journals in essays. Holds in high regard students who appreciate literature.
Although he's a tough grader, he does give you a WHOLE lot of chances to get the grade you deserve. I know I would've had a higher grade for the class, but with work and other classes, the amount of work this professor gives is just too much. The responses should help you in developing writing skills, but sometimes I found most of them unnecessary
He submits 3 pages of writing homework every week. It will make you to spend a lot of time on this class. You should avoid this class if you have another work of class you got to focus. He says "embrace and enjoy the writing assignments." but he doesn't manage you to enjoy them. The writings he asks you to write are just like you did in highschool.
He gives the best feedback and leaves a comment after every paper you submit online. Tries his best to make his classes easygoing and funny. Although he's a harsh grader, he gives you tips and tricks on how to reach that. The amount of effort you put in is what you end up getting graded for. Gives many opportunities to each your highest. Good prof
Honestly one of the best professors Ive had at Queensborough. If you do the homework and put in the effort, theres no reason why you shouldnt get an A. Hes a caring person and his feedback will help you tremendously. Would definitely recommend.
great professor.
This professor is probably the best professor in QCC. Really enjoyed my summer session. He makes writing fun. Everything about this class was amazing. If he taught other classes I would take them too. This is the only class that felt so worth it getting up for and writing. I think writing helped more than my therapist! great professor!
Great professor, he helps you get the grade you want and gives you many opportunities even though you have a paper due every week.
Cant stress the fact when I I jotted down lots of hw be careful guys you will be getting 2 essays a week a lot of reading and more. Good luck
If you are okay with doing a lot of essays then take it otherwise do not
Long and thoughtful replies on discussion board threads is a must. He takes 20 mins into a 50 min audio file to even mention the assignment. Complicated & lecture heavy work. Only reason I chose this class was bc it wasnt full. Overall, he rambles too much and leaves out important info.
This is the best professor Ive taken thus far. If you love to write, I would definitely recommend him! You need to work hard and be consistent. He cares for his students a lot! He provides lots of extra credit assignments but the key is to complete them. If youre not a fan of writing then you wouldnt succeed but otherwise hes the BEST!
Professor Kuszai is top notch and hands down the type of professor everyone should encounter during their higher education years. His assignments allowed you to explore your creative and free thinking and wasn't pressed on grammatically or punctually correct essays. Great guide and mentor at QCC.
Genuinely the sweetest and most kind professor I've had. If you meet with him during office hours he will answer all your questions in-depth and is extremely empathetic with student struggles. Super encouraging, funny, and personable. Gives so many chances to get extra credit and his feedback is always thoughtful. LOVE THIS PROF! Effortgood grades
Hands down one of the best prof Ive taken. Super chill, gives amazing feedback and is super encouraging. He always answers emails quickly and is always able to have a zoom meeting. He genuinely cares about his students and gives 1 million chances to resubmit work, get extra credit, and get points. I love him hes seriously the best ever!
Be ready to write... a lot. You write normal responses to essay proposals to the actual essays. So. Many. Words. But he's a fun teacher, often made class entertaining. He encourages students to join in and make comments, and he often offers comments on what you've written. He's strict on deadlines, but will make accommodations when needed.
In a nutshell, he is all over the place and just messy and not structured. Says you can use late passes for assignments but then never answers emails so he just goes ahead and gives you a zero for assignments without confirmation. First time in my life that i get a D in english, kind of mind-boggling. Stay away!!!!
He's a great professor, definitely one of the good ones at QCC. Class is also easy, hand in your work on time and come to class, you'll get an easy A. There also is a lotta bit of writing assignments but what did you expect it's an English class. He's also lenient to students who hand in work late as long as you keep in touch with him.
Best professor I've had at QCC so far, if I could give him more than 5 stars I would. You don't have to write too much (6 smaller essays, 2 bigger ones, 2 proposals for the bigger essays, and a final assessment). His class is a lot of fun to be in, normally pretty chill and despite his busy schedule, he's really good at responding to emails
Joel Kuszai is the worst professor I've ever had at QCC. After his class, English, which was once my favorite subject, has become my least favorite. He's even caused me to switch my major. He makes you feel horrible about your writing skills, and is such an insufferable person. He's quite literally evil. He'll make you never want to learn again.
The semester was good, he wants his student to do well. He is not tranditional, not organized, but if your someone that is always late on handing in assignments he is the one to take because he give countless opportunities to pass his class, but its alot of writing, ALOT of discussion board and is challenging as if its a science course.
He lets you try multiple times to get a good grade on assignments, anyone can get an A. He deserves a 5.0 on RMP but some people don't want to do the work and that's not his fault.
Best english prof ever. He will work with you to fix your grade if you need help. He was very flexible and bent over backwards to help me and I will always appreciate that. Not many profs are like him. Weekly discussion boards are easy and you can do them multiple times to pass. Easiest class ever!
