He is smart handsome, and definatley keeps my attention in class
He makes this class pretty fun. He gets excited about all of it which makes it more interesting. Kind of hard, weekly quizzes + paper, but no exams just a final. Overall, I'd recommend him.
He is a very good teacher. He explains the course work well and all of his quizes were online. He likes his students to understand the work and he is very helpful. I would reccomend him to anyone.
a cake walk, all tests and quizzes online, if you want an A, take Minden. Oh yeah, and he smiles a lot!
Great teacher. Everything is online and he listens to his students. He is also very hot!
This guy sucks. He explains the easiest things twenty times, and assigns a lot of very simple busy work. It's insulting. I'd rather gouge out my liver with a spoon than sit through another hour of his class.
Great class for those with internet access, entirely based on tests and quizzes (all online). Word to the wise, take his class at the end of the day because he likes to let it out early. :)
I hated this course- if you enjoy learning, and like being active in class DON'T take this course with minden. The class may have been easy, but he graded REALLY hard for the APA paper, and class was sooo boring! It was hard to go.

This class was one of my favorites. Besides it being an interesting subject it was hella easy. You don't really need to go to class, but since he's hot I would recommend it... If you don't get an A there is something seriously wrong with you.
He's a great instructor...Do your reading and pay attention...then you should do good. He's very nice, always willing to help answer questions, lets class out early often, and BONUS...he's H.O.T....yes very hot!
This class was really easy to get an A, and he is HOTTT!!!
Dr. Minden is super nice and a good teacher! He's pretty funny, too! All the quizzes and exams are online, which is nice, but you either have to have read the book extremely well or go to class everyday and take notes (option #2 is best!). Try to participate in the class (he really wants students to do that, but it usually doesn't). He's great!
First of all, he isn't hot. I dont know where people are getting this.... second of all, the class is sort of easy, all the tests and quizzes are online which is a plus. but dont expect to understand all the material and get 100% on every quiz. His lectures are power point, and boring. I am getting a good grade though so i cant complain too much
All tests are online, but make sure you read well or attend class daily (as already mentioned by someonelse). He is helpful and straightforward about what he's looking for in an assignment. He is nice to look at too!
I had him for the online course. Definitely take careful notes, as they will help on the tests. There wasn't a textbook, but rather a packet of journal articles to buy from Mr. Copy. There is a pretty big lit. review paper to write, which is a big portion of your grade. On-campus students have to do an oral presentation of their lit review.
Don't forget to take the online quizzes!! He won't reopen them for you if you forget. He's a nice guy and would recommend taking him. At first I didn't think he was hot but after staring at him for a whole semester's worth of classes, he's not that bad looking.
This dude is hot! His smile is to die for. He class was a fun one. I enjoyed his teaching method.
I'm not sure where all the hot comments are coming from? Dr. Minden is nice and does have a sense of humor but as a professor I didn't care for him at all. You can tell his heart isn't it it and his testing methods show. He practically throws points your way and the quizes on-line are ridiculous. He needs to revise his strategies, big time!
A great professor. Lectures are concise and interesting. He adds in some humor. The format of his quizzes and tests are online, but not too easy. You will need to attend class, take notes, and read! Downside: He is NOT easy to talk with one-on-one,seems to enjoy his position of power as a prof. & can make students feel inadequate & uncomfortable.
his lectures are interesting and he is really funny but i felt really uncomfortable asking him questions after class. i felt like once class was over he didnot care anymore. the class is pretty easy, i wouldnt take him if you want to get to know your prof though!
Miserable class. Easy grade. He likes himself a bit much. You get to listen to his ego stroking lectures wouldn't be so painful if he spoke in plain English instead of trying to impress the class with his psycho babble vocabulary. If he would have put as much effort into teaching as he did hitting on girls at bars I might have learned something.
You can take all quizzes and exams at home online-super easy! He's nice, but just barely covers most topics (lectures make you feel like you're in 2nd grade). I don't feel like we learned much.
Dr. Minden, when lecturing, almost sounds like he's reading from a script that he's memorized. The class isn't hard, it's just... weird. Don't miss taking online quizzes, like I did.
Easy class. And Dr. Minden is amazingly patient. He's a no wrong answers kind of guy. Super easy to understand, and very helpful after class. The only exception I've heard is his gentle refusal to give a girl answers who had been obviously sleeping in class. Sounds reasonable to me! This is an easy A.
Great teacher. Very patient and understanding. A good person outside of classes as well. Highly recommended.
This class is easy but, if you want a good grade do all the work. He won't help you get a better grade and will never let you make up missed quizes. No extra credit offered either. He acts like he cares, but in a wierd way. I dont know but I was .6% away from a A- and he wouldn't give it to me. Rediculous
I enjoy Dr. Minden's style. He often articulates with astoundingly flawless precision, which, as other posts have mentioned, may seem unnatural. However, this is nice when one has limited patience for rambling. Busywork is not assigned, and he kindly gives the time of day to theoretical perspectives that honor the unconscious. So thankful for that
If you don't know big words, I recommend you NOT take his class. However, if you have a decent-sized vocabulary, take him. He's nice and funny, and don't be afraid to ask him questions in class (it shows him you are paying attention). He doesn't seem too approachable after class ends, but i promise you he is. He cares about his students.
Just...loosen...UP! Can be helpful but surprisingly uptight about some details that are not always important. I'm sure it's not intentional, but has a way of making people feel inferior or less-than even if you make a valiant effort to be a top student and show interest (I certainly tried). Didn't feel comfortable meeting with him when I had to.
Great teacher, super smart and funny plus not bad to look at.Online quizzes and test make it really easy to pass. He makes it very clear what you will be tested on and often uses power points. He likes to answer questions and wants his students to participate in class, which is a small part of your grade.Don't be affaid to talk to him after class.
Great professor. He really likes it when you read the chapters before coming to class. Uses powerpoints. If you go to class, do your reading and take the weekly quizzes it is not hard to get a good grade.
hot hot hot . very easy to look at. easy class, but he does expect you to do things correct and a certain way. come to class and you shouldnt have an issue passing this class. online exams!
He's super awesome and has really interesting lectures. Tests are all online and are really very easy. He does have a way of making you feel stupid or lacking common sense when you speak to him outside of lecture...which isn't too big of a deal because his class is simple and you don't really need to meet with him. I'd take another class with him.
Actually read the material assigned before class. Minden is a good communicator and makes his subject interesting. If you do what he wants and keep it SIMPLE, you should get an A. One thing I would caution people against is going to his office. Outside of class, he makes you feel stupid and often creates more questions than you came in with.
Super hot! I love his class!
Good lecturer, presents the material very well and has humorous anecdotes as well. One caution: he does have a way of appearing to laugh at you when you participate in class :( Inhibiting a student this way is counterproductive.
No problem earning an A but he can come across as uptight and rigid. Never ask about extra credit! Not one person in our class asked about it all semester and he was pleased enough about that to finally offer some. Unapproachable personality for a teacher.
Not a hard class, you can get an A. I really liked the way he ran his class. He is kind of off-putting, though. Can easily make you feel self-conscious, especially if you volunteer in class. Laughs at your answers to his questions. Yet participation is important to your grade. Too bad.
Dr. Minden is a good teacher and his lectures are interesting. I liked his powerpoints and he has a pretty good sense of humor. He has an unapproachable personality, however. Kind of mocking. Can seem arrogant and uptight but overall a pretty good teacher.
Clear power points. But make sure you catch every word!Sometimes his quizzes are tricky. He will present the material one way but a different answer will actually be the correct one on a quiz. Confusing.
Very clear professor, and easy to understand the material presented. Never felt uncomfortable to ask for help, and he was always available for additional office hours. Loved going to class, even though the subject was dry. Lecture notes are important to online quizzes, but are doable.
This class was insanely boring I went twice. Since all the quizzes and tests were online I didn't see the point in going. Ended up getting a B. He even gave me credit for a paper I never did LOL.
If you come to class and take notes on the lectures, you should have no trouble with the assessments. Even if you just pay attention in class. I am taking his Psyc of Personality class, and his lectures are quite clear, and that's where the assessments come from. The exams are straight from the quizzes. Pretty easy to get a decent grade.
Lectures are kind of boring but you NEED to go, he counts attendance and they will make or break your quiz scores. Quizzes weekly, 10 questions online. Tests are online & you have 1.25 hours to take them, so it's difficult to take if you haven't studied (i.e you cant look up answers as you go). He's a hard ass but a good professor, learned a lot.
As long as you attend class and take notes, you will be find. I barely opened the book and all quizzes and exams are online. Quizzes are based from the lectures and exams are primarily based from quizzes.
Joel is eloquent in his lectures and delivers the material fairly straightforward. All test and quizzes are online. Quizzes are based on lecturebook and tests are based on quizzes so daily attendance is a must. He gets agitated if people use the restroomtext during class. He was difficult to approach with questions or concerns in and outofclass.
Professor Miden is a pretty good teacher. He really knows his stuff and you can tell. He comes across a bit pompous at times. I said something one time in class and he sort of laughed at me, I didn't take too much offense, but someone else might. All tests are online and are straight from the weekly quizzes.
Minden is so awesome!! Seriously show up to class and take notes and you'll pass with an A. Weekly quizzes and 4 exams and participation is your whole grade. He assigns a book, but all exams are based on his lectures he just wants you to read to create conversation during class time. Seriously take him, you won' regret it!
He's probably the worst teacher I have ever had. He is annoying to listen to and his classes are the worst. He is a boring person and it shows in his lectures.
Lectures can be boring, and yes he does laugh at times if someone says something that I guess he thinks is silly or completely wrong. BUT, this class is awesome in so many ways!! Test and quizzes online. Show up, take notes and you will pass with an A. He is total eye candy too!! He is very very strict with electronics though. Not allowed at all!
Joel is an obnoxious professor. You can tell he thinks highly of himself and no one wanted to participate fearing that he'd laugh and say no. His lectures are extremely boring and he talks about things not included on the slide but absolutely everything he says is extremely important. Tests and quizzes were difficult even with the book and notes.
Great guy who has so much knowledge in the field of personality Psychology. I put that attendance is not mandatory, but he doesn't post his slides, and his online quizzes every other day, and all tests are straight from the lecture. So if you want to have any chance of doing well, you need to go. He's nice and funny in his own way. I recommend!
For this class there are only exams, quizzes, and attendance is counted. All tests and quizzes are online. They are mainly based on the lectures, but even so I felt they were difficult. Take good notes during class.
Come to class, pay attention to what he says, and read the book the few times that you even have to. All quizzes and tests are online and come directly from his powerpoint notes and what he says. There's a good portion of questions that come straight from just listening to him speak so make sure you come to class!
One of the best professors Ive had at Chico State! He cares about the material and is knowledgeable in his field. He communicated clear expectations that we should not approach him with questions before or after class, but he was always very helpful in office hours. His lectures were interesting. I highly recommend taking a class with him!
Dr. Minden is one of the few exceptional professors I have had at Chico State. His classes are slimpistic yet informative. Class attendence is a must but if you go and take notes from the slides you will pass. His class structure I hope will be adopted by others. I hope he teaches some upper divison Psyc courses in the future. Great guy!
All tests and quizzes are online, textbook is a cheap reading book, whole class is developed around optimism and pessimism, semester long project, but easy presentation and short paper
He is the dullest man alive! He is a great professor in the sense that the material was easy to understand, but the guy could kill people with his monotoned voice. I never fall asleep in class, especially an afternoon class, but this man is straight up dry. Take another professor that has passion in their work so you could enjoy your class'!
Online quizzes every week. Lecture is boring. You must take good notes of everything he says. He doesn't post slides on blackboard. His tests are ok just take good notes. You get 1 point each day for attending class & a 0 if you don't go. Does give extra credit. Can't use your cell phone he will call you out! A 1 page paper due at the end of Semest
Minden is a super cool guy who knows what hes talking about. All the exams and quizzes are online, and the exams are made up of the quiz questions. A lot of his quiz questions are based on things he stresses in class, so going to class is important. I would definitely take a class with him again!
Really need to expand on notes besides the lecture slides; I mean really. Super monotoned, always dreaded going to class. Stay on top of quizzes and exams. I felt like he wasn't the best for my learning style either; like if I said the wrong answer, he wouldn't really help me get on the right track. Should stay at his practice full-time.
Joel is a fantastic prof. He's super smart (might make you feel a littleeee bit not smart) but he's also very willing to help you. Offers 15 points ec right in the beginning. As far as assignments go, you have like 15 quizzes and 4 tests. The material is a little tricky, but very interesting! You will have to study if you want an A
This class was pretty simple. One quiz per week which was easy then one big project that you work on all semester (which turns out to be a 2 pager). Good choice.
Dr. Minden knows what he is talking about when it comes to the class subject. The lectures can be a bit dry at times but it is not a difficult class overall. You must read the textbook and watch the lectures if you are going to pass.
The lecture could put you to sleep from time to time so bring caffeine.
Dr. Joel is the worst professor at Chico State, by far. Minden is not only a monotoned lecturer, but an unsupportive professor to students. When asking Minden about Phd. programs or his class, he will make you feel inferior and incapable to reach your aspirations. He also somehow made such an interesting topic of Psyc 152 the most dreadful thing.
This is the worse professor ever! NEVER take his class under any circumstances. This class literally makes me want to slam my head against a car door and drop out of college. He does not care about his students' well-being. Instead, he spends most of the lecture talking about himself and his stupid Ph.D. degree. Rip.
Dr. Minden gives very clear instructions on what he expects of us and what we need to expect of this class. There were quizzes every week and as long as you watched his lectures, he talks about everything you need to know AND does his best to make it easy to understand and not so technical.
Only graded on one quiz a week and the occasional test so there are very few things to be graded by. He does not give the benefit of the doubt. I missed a quiz because of a personal emergency which I had proof of and he still did not let me take the quiz because "it states in the syllabus no late work". If you're super good at psych then easy A
Clear about what is expected of his students right from the beginning. Allows you to make up one missed exam the last week of the semester. Gives one extra credit assignment... DO IT. Quizzes are given every week and you should not have any issues if you've watched the lecture and taken notes. Heads up his lectures are monotoned and pre recorded.
He was very chill. The class was pretty easy. We took one weekly quiz and the final was not cumulative. We did literally nothing else, but the quizzes were a bit tough. The exams are almost fully quiz questions though. Definitely super tough to get an A in but a B or C is totally easy.
Professor Minden gives pre-recorded lectures that cover everything that will be on tests and quizzes. Everything on the lecture is open to be quizzed on, the book was hardly used at all. He is very strict with what he expects, with no exceptions made at all. One extra credit assignment the first week, then it's just quizzes and tests.
For an asynchronous class, he only gives 10 minutes for your weekly quiz and a one hour window to take the exam. He has two separate times listed on the front page with no way to tell which section you're in. If you miss it, or think your test starts at a different time, you get 30% off. He is super anal about his rules with no flexibility
Minden has some issues going a lack of associative material to work on. It's only his lectures, 10 point quizzes, and four 100 point exams. He has a habit of correcting the book he uses and throws his personal bias into lessons. Just ask about Rorschach tests.
I would much rather take a lot of tests than have a lot of assignments, so i loved it. The quizzes are easy if you pay attention. Almost all tests were the same questions from quizzes. Super cool guy and funny. He keeps it simple and straightforward. You have 1-2 lectures every week, with one 10 question quiz due by Thurs, then done for the week.
His lectures were up to two hours long and hard to sit through with his boring voice & this guy loves to talk about himself. He does not respond to emails unless you write them exactly how he wants. And although your class meeting is and hour and 15 mins you only get 45 mins to take exams. I would never take a class with him again.
I am normally an A student but will be lucky to get a C due to the entire grade being based solely on tests and quizzes with poorly worded, totally random, often negative questions (Which of these five incredibly similar things did Freud NOT believe?). Terrible experience... and he does not want to hear from/help students for any reason.
He tests you on things he says verbally (he talks A LOT and it's impossible to write everything down) and his powerpoints are single words with no information. Quiz and test questions do not align with lectures whatsoever. Save yourself the headache and take this class with someone else.
Joel Minden is a very knowledgeable professor and his lectures were always very interesting. I did, however, take his fully asynchronous class which was solely based on weekly tests. If you understand the material, you'll do great, but everything is based on memorization and application.
I just started this class with him and Im already hating it. His quizzes SUCK. The answers are very alike and difficult to choose the right one. If you dont go to the lecture you wont pass the quiz, even if you do the readings. His lectures are very boring. Save yourself the trouble and just dont take his class. Hoping I pass.
He doesn't care about his students and that was clear when he refused to allow me to make up an exam because I was in the hospital. He basically told me that I should have timed my medical emergency better. His lectures are horribly boring but you have to watch them if you have any hope of passing the quizzes. Which you probably won't anyway
One of my favorite instructors! Very informative, entertaining, and understandable lectures. Wonderful personality. Assignments all added to the learning experience. No busy work. Take him!
Only graded with online tests and quizzes. Lectures seem irrelevant to the material that youre graded on. I spent too much time in that textbook which is also horribly organized. This prof is a practicing therapist and doesnt seem to care as much as other profs about his students success prepare to treat this as an online class.
Attendance wasn't mandatory, but instead of following what he wrote in his syllabus and giving us 1 online quiz following two non-mandatory lectures (as usual), he decided to watch a movie during a random 2 lectures and make us write a paper on it, which you couldn't have known unless you had been there, since the syllabus mentioned nothing of it.
Prepare to get all of your info from the textbook. A lot of the info in the lectures is irrelevant to his questions on quizzes/exams. Lectures are usually one slide and he will just talk for the whole hour and a half. Not a bad guy but makes the class way harder than it has to be.
I am an A student and this is the most stressful class that I have ever taken. After the first few quizzes and the exam, I probably have a D. I am ready to pull my hair out. The quizzes and exams have incredibly difficult and similar answers, and there is a short time limit with no going back to previous questions. No other ways to earn points.
This professor was extremely insensitive about certain topics involving mental health. He ridiculed people's struggles and used very triggering language. He upset many students and was not respectful. His class was not difficult but it was hard to sit through lectures hearing how he discussed information.
Though this was an online class, the lectures were very long (about 1 1/2 - 2 hours per week). Professor Minden is very knowledgeable about his subject matter and explains it very well. My only complaint is the class is graded purely off quizzes and exams, no extra credit or other work that will help your grade be brought up. Easy passing class
Didn't enjoy this class as much as I hoped. Super heavy on lectures and quizzes/exams. Lectures were really long and boring. I recommend to pay attention to the lectures and disregard the readings. He is obviously knowledgeable, I just didn't like his teaching style and the quizzes and exams were somewhat difficult for me.
don't take this class, save yourself stress and take it with somebody else. enough said
Dr. Minden is very knowledgeable and informative on the topics. Class relied heavily on online quizzes and exams. If attendance, general interest in psychology, attentive listening, and detailed note taking aren't your thing you will struggle in this course.
A few things to note. Yes this class requires like a 200 dollar textbook, but don't bother reading it since it's all lecture. I would've gotten a higher grade had I NOT touched the textbook for the first month. This class is literally all lecture, and he packs so much into it yet barres you from bringing any sort of recording device. Avoid! AVOID!
Dr. Joel Minden was by far the worst professor I have EVER had in all of my 4 years. Took him for my capstone course and learned nothing. Nothing you can do will be up to his severely high standards. He will make you feel like you want to drop out of college right then and there. I could write a dissertation on this man.
Dr. Joel Minden might be one of the best professors I have had in my 3 years of college. He is clear and concise when delivering his lectures and is very professional and passionate about what he does which is truly admirable. I am sad that I will never have him as a professor again. Forever a Joel Minden stan. Inspired me to do my Masters in Psych
The hardest class I have ever taken at this school. This professor was very lecture heavy and had us read and buy two books, one of them being his own, yet we were never tested on that knowledge. The only thing tested was lecture material so specific that you are set up to fail. Do not take this class if you actually want to learn and succeed.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH JOEL MINDEN. DOESN'T MATTER IF U ARE A STRAIGHT A STUDENT, U WILL NOT SUCCEED. U ARE SET UP TO FAIL BY THE PROFESSOR WITH ONLY LECTURES AND NOTHING TO STUDY. HE WILL HAVE U BUY THE BOOK BUT DON'T BOTHER, U DON'T READ IT ANYWAY. IT WON'T HELP YOU WITH THE ONLY THING THAT IS GRADED, TESTS. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!!
This class was VERY DIFFICULT. It doesn't matter if you show up to every lecture, take notes, and do the readings. He will include very specific and confusing questions on the quizzes and exams about concepts he barely touched on in class. It feels as though he makes the exams intentionally confusing and doesn't want you to succeed.
Students are not set up for success in this course. The quizzes and exams are extremely difficult because you will be asked questions on things that are not taught. The multiple choice answers are ambiguous.
Do not take this class. Your grade is entirely based on quizzes and exams, the exams specifically seem to set you up to fail no matter if you attend every single class. Entirely based on lectures, but included questions that were not covered. Also required to buy a $200 textbook WE NEVER NOT ONCE TOUCHED. Was a bit egotistical. Save your time.
I would drive to this class without my seatbelt on because I was hoping I would die before I got there
This class is extremely difficult. If you don't show up to the lecture, better luck next time, because that's all he tests you on. Don't bother buying the textbooks, everything is completely lecture-based anyways. Only grades on quizzes and tests. Doesn't post his lectures, and you're not allowed to record them or use notes during the tests/quizzes
Just enrolled and to sum this course up he is going to have 2 slides with 4 bullet points for the entire 1:15 class section while he rambles on about topics. You are basically guessing what to take notes on for the quiz since the quiz is predominantly based on the lecture not the book we had to buy. Save your mental health DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE!!
Traaaaassshhh!!!!! Don't do it!!!!!!!!!! Listen to all the other ratings on here!! Quizzes and tests feel like random questions he got from Google and don't have much to do with the material. He's pretty stand offish and doesn't give that he cares about students at all.
DO NOT TAKE! Absolutely horrible! Unapproachable, never has time for questions and you must email them, tests are on lectures and possible answers are extremely vague. He appears to hate teaching and students bother him. Runs out immediately after classes. Seems to only be teaching so students have to buy his book. Your chances of failure are high!
This class is intentionally set up for you to fail. Quizzes and exams are extremely difficult, based on lectures in class; NO lectures are uploaded or available. Lectures are few slides with minimal bullet points, and most info is abbreviated? Professor is extremely condescending and egotistical, will ridicule you for asking a question, etc. Waste.
Avoid this class if you can - the professor makes it intentionally challenging to succeed. Lectures are sparse and unhelpful, and exams are designed to trip you up. However, Unstuck study proved useful for targeted study prep.
