This guy is so cool, he's super understanding and he's a genius...best prof ever
No Comments
Really caring, smart, understanding. One of the best profs. at UWEC. :)
If you entered college with intentions of stretching your intellectual boundaries then there is no finer professor to whom you should entrust your mind. He is nice, smart, and best of all, approachable. Take the class!
A rare professor who makes you interested in the Romantic Era by bringing in Iron Maiden and mullets. Great professor.
He is super nice guy who actually cares about his students. Take him although he rarely gives A's.
Really nice guy, cool assignments like listen to DMB and watch The Matrix. This class will give you a whole new outlook on english. Really recommend him for all freshman.
The best prof at UWEC. Always willing to help and lets you redo papers until you get the grade you want.
Awesome teacher.. I would take a class with him if you have the chance; no one regrets it. He isn't the easiest grader, but it pays off because you learn alot.
Mr. Joel Pace is a wonderful professor. He not only relates to you as a professor, but he truly tries to relate English to your life. He's one of the best at UWEC!
Probably the best teacher I have ever had...
THE BEST TEACHER I have EVER had!!!! He is so awesome, he relates to his students well. It's definately a laid back environment and you get to know everyone in your class well. The class itself isn't hard, you just have to do the assignments. If you get the chance take any class with him!!!
Challenging at times but extremely helpful and relates very well to all students.
He's a hottie with a body. He is a very good professor, probably the best I have had at UWEC. Really challenges you, but makes you want to excel.
GREAT PROFESSOR, THE BEST! He grades papers hard, but classes are so much fun! A lot of my friends that I made last year are from this class. He is very helpful, and a wonderful person. I learned more in this class than any other class at UWEC.
Prolly the best prof I have had in my 4 years here!!! I had him freshman year and he still says hi to me...just a nice guy and made class really fun!! I also learned a lot! Highly recomended!
this man is by far the best professor i have EVER had! his class is so useful and he makes it way fun. he is a very cool, young, hip, fresh and intelligent man. TAKE ONE OF HIS CLASSES. he relates so well to students.
Fantastitc, fun professor. Made everything seem really interesting!
He is super excited about the subject matter (Romantic Period) and very fun to listen to. He is very laid back (almost too much so!) and easy going. I love going to his class!
This was a very fun class. Pace is a very nice professor; he is very helpful. He does grade kinda hard so dont expect to get an A in this class.
Awesome class. Awesome professor. If you love the outdoors, DEFINITELY take this class in the fall. We're outside on nice days! Very helpful, but also VERY busy guy. Cute wife, too. Challenging, but well worth it. He makes you look at a 'B' with newfound respect. Helpful student mentors, also. He's also written a book! DEFINITELY take PACE!!
great prof. its a really fun class becuase it makes you take a look at art and other cultured stuff. definitely take this prof if you get the chance. You can get a B if you give decent effort but don't expect an A unless you're a real great writer and give 110%.

Pace is a very fun teacher who actually talks about topics that matter. He is always helpful, and he is very cool and friendly. The material is difficult, but he makes it fun.
Pace is the man. He challenges you and expects you to work at a college level. Anyone who thinks this guy isn't cool probably wouldn't know cool if it slammed some mean poetry and explored the matrix and simulation (I am speaking of Joel).
OMG, he is awesome!! His class can be pretty hard at times but if you go every day and at least have fun in the class you will get so much out of it. He is a great professor and loves what he does!!
Pace is the shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!!!! Easily my favorite professor, unbelievably helpful, great guy, but he expects quality work in return. Some may find his classes a little difficult, but it's definitely worth taking any class Pace is teaching.
I don't think I really learned anything. It was an easy class with pizza on Thursdays, but I really wished I had a different professor that actually decided to teach.
i dont see how anyone can not like pace... he is awesome, hands down my FAVORITE professor. i have never been so inspired by a single person. his class is pretty tough, but he tells you exactly what he wants. he typed a full page paper about our papers, what he liked and what we needed to improve on. extremely helpful, LOVES participation
Pace was awesome. He is extremely funny and helpful and knows what he's talking about. I loved going to class, he's a really fun guy
He doesn't explain anything and you really don't learn all that much. the syllabus is a joke in his class. He's very laid back but it's near impossible to get an A. All in all one class with him is way more than enough
wasnt a very good teacher. laid back. doesnt know how to teach college kids. he is knowledgable but doesnt know how to teach it. take someone else.
Joel is fantastic. Great guy, very approachable, makes a real effort to get to know his students. In 110 I felt like I didn't learn a whole lot, but if you can get past the class itself, Joel is great. Take him for a more interesting class.
JP is such a cool guy and is really laid back. Tough grader and really tough class with a ton of work involved. Really interesting though and a really good class for english majors. Reccommended if you're willing to put in the work.
Joel is AWESOME! He'll order pizza and hold class in places other than the classroom. He wants his students to ACTUALLY learn and be in a comfortable environment while doing so. It's hard to get an A because he really pushes you to do your best. Take him.
Pace is a pretty awesome guy. definitley never a dull moment in his class. its a lot of fun but he can be a hard grader...don't expect to get and A unless you give it 200%! the work load can also be a little much at ceratin times and the syllabus is kinda a joke. but overall very helpful (if you ask questions) and a lot of fun!
Such a fun guy! Is a hard grader but gives a lot of credit when deserved! A good grade from this teacher makes you feel good all day. Really wants students to do well and won't settle for less than your best. Take him if at all possible!!!
Professor Pace is great. Teaches the class by having students explore and discuss creatively. Allows for students to find their own interpretations on works of literature. Holds class outside sometimes. Orders pizza in class around 4 or 5 times this semester. He's in a great band called Irie Sol; Go listen to them. (He's the one with the sideburns)
Pace is the best professor I've had at Eau Claire! I definitely recommend him to anybody who hasn't had him yet. He definitely keeps class interesting and you will learn a lot. Keep up with your folder and you will be fine! He is not an easy grader; he pushes his students to work up to their full potential. You won't regret taking this class.
He doesn't teach, he lets class discussion reign, which might be fine for some classes, but not thoery and criticism. More than halfway through the semester and he hasn't mentioned Critics at all. He doesn't keep track of participation-expects students to take notes on what they say in class to prove what grade they think they should get.
Pace was awful. His grading is based on a relative scale, so even if you are a great writer, he will give you a low grade if he THINKS you can do better. His syllabus is hard to follow. He gives feedback after you have turned in your work so you make the same mistakes the entire semester. I learned nothing. My writing hasn't improved at all.
Disregard negative comments from silly freshmen. Pace is one of the most intelligent and most helpful professors in the English department. He is a relatively tough grader, though, and has high expectations of his students. Do not take a class with him if you only have vague interest in the subject - you'd be wasting YOUR time and stealing MY spot.
One of the BEST teachers at Eau-Claire! Very helpful. Unique sense of style. Always in a good mood. Loves when you participate and go to him for extra help. Tries to stay out of the classroom as much as possible. You write 3 papers in the class the last one being a 10 page paper but its not bad at all if you stay on top of things. TAKE HIM!
He is a great professor, although, he is extremely difficult. Especially when it comes to grading. He's very understanding, he let someone turn a paper in 2 weeks late just because their computer broke. No penalty. Class is extremely interesting. though its not really mandatory, you'll wanna go!
Pace is awesome. He is understanding, leads interesting class discussions, and has made me interested in theory. I hope he teaches other classes I need.
Very funny and carefree professor. You really get to know him over a semester and appreciate all the tips he gives you. Very understanding. My only gripe, and it may have been the individuals in my class, was that it was very unorganized. Due dates were ALWAYS being changed. Overall, I really enjoyed taking one of his classes.
Awesome professor and a great class! It's a lot of work but worth it. Pace is the best professor I've had so far. I hope I get to take some of his other classes!
Pace is a great English teacher! Yes, it is not a walk in the park, but no English 110 class is. He is super cool, I took the night class which is 2 hours and 15 minutes twice a week, I was dreading it and thinking it would be boring... but turns out the time goes pretty fast! I recommend him!
If you want a easy "A" DO NOT!! take his class However if you want to leave educated take him He is one of the most intelligent and chill teachers you could ever have that's guaranteed Papers are almost impossible to get an A on however, getting a B is easy as long as you are passionate about what you're writing I already recommended him to friends.
Amazing professor. Very humble and respectful towards students. Incredible teaching style that encourages learning.
Awesome teacher, take him if you can!
Pace is outrageous! Bought us pizza, moved almost every paper and test back, and his class was the only one I actually wanted to go to during the week. TAKE HIM, Best professor on campus
This professor is my favorite professor on campus. He is the reason why I switched my minor to English. If you can, take his class. It does require work, but the information you can gain is outstanding. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!!!!! (there is pizza provided a least twice a semester)
Awesome professor. Very friendly, considerate, and wild. Expect to not have class in a classroom.
Excellent professor! I enjoyed this class very much. He made me extremely interested in the class content and although it was somewhat a lot of work, he made me excited to do the assignments. Definitely take Joel if you get a chance.
Really interesting class and you can tell Pace really cared about his students. Tough grader but class was always fun to go to, would recommend this professor! and class if you love hip hop music. He's just super disorganized and doesn't have any time outside of class to help students.
I feel lucky to have Pace's class, had so much fun and learned alot!!!
I would totally recommend Pace. Not only is he smart, but it's very obvious that he is passionate about the subject content and loves to teach his students. The only downside is that he is very unorganized.
Joel is the man. The class in general was amazing. It was on Hip-Hop. What could be better? Two papers and a number of homework assignments, but they aren't due until the end of the semester. He makes class interesting and engages with students, without seeming pushy. Hopefully you're lucky enough to take a class with Joel.
Professor Pace is a good professor at UWEC, as he truly cares about his students. Participation matters in his class and Pace counts it towards your final grade. Expect to write some long papers for his class and you will have to read your papers in front of the class as well. As much work as it was, I would recommend taking Professor Pace.
Super funny guy, I had him for a 2 1/2 period twice a week and he made the time go by really fast. He's super laid back and cool. I would definitely recommend that everyone takes his class! He is flexible and understanding when it comes to deadlines for papers. (He even ordered us pizza a time or two)
He's just so fun. He's passionate, energetic, and unique, and his enthusiasm for the arts is infectious. Love him!!
Pace is my favorite professor by far here at Eau Claire. He is a bit eccentric and if you don't have a sense of humor and aren't willing to have fun, you will hate this. Overall, he gives great feedback, is always available for questions, makes class fun and makes you feel like you're part of a family. I want to take his class all over again.
Pace is the coolest professor here at UWEC. With the time spent creating a friendship with the class, we were left with 4 weeks to write 5 papers. The work load at the end of the semester was way to much. We did not have clear direction on papers. We learned about 5 things all semester and heard the same thing repeated 49 times. He's awesome tho..
he is great
We never have any homework. He takes us outside as much as he can and his class is amazing. Sometimes he free style raps. I hate writing but he makes it so fun cause I actually want To go to class.
Pace is really fun! He brings in a variety of writers and makes the class go by fast. There was a lot of homework and since I am not an English major it seemed a bit much for just an LE credit. There are two main papers for the class. The first is 4 pages and the second is adding an additional 4. Not terrible but not the best ever.
I enjoyed Pace's attitude when it comes to teaching and writing. He is very knowledgable and super cool. The only downside to this class was that we didn't get the syllabus until April and didn't get assigned our first paper until then. We had to write 4 papers in the last 2 months with unclear guidelines, so it was a time crunch and stressful.
The best professor I've ever had, hands down. I can't wait to take a class with him again. If you get a chance to have a class with this absolute gem of a man, do it, by all means. He changed my life in so many ways and going to his class was like being wrapped up in an environment of absolute peace. LOVE him to death.
Pace is one of those human beings who are so rare and so inspiring; you only meet a couple of this type in your life. His classes are NOT easy, but he makes you realize how much you want to challenge to yourself. :) And then you see how much potential you have! I am only able to stay sane this semester because of his class, honestly. THANKS PACE
Pace is overall a nice guy, but if you want a class with structure & specific agenda DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. We spent the first 5 weeks doing introductions and we didn't get a syllabus until week 6. You dont learn anything and he expects a lot from you. You have one paper and that's your whole grade. It's very stressful and it plain ole sucks!!!
Probably the most interesting man I have ever met. He is super awesome and super cool guy and will make class fun and interesting but wow he gives a lot of hw. we spent the first month of class just doing ice breakers making the rest of the semester cramming stuff in. he will assign reading that are like 120 pgs. Again great guy, but hard class.
Pace is a great person and caring professor, but he is not the most organized. So coming to class and talking about random stuff just felt like wasted time. He is a really cool person, but his expectations are kind of high especially for the last paper. If you like structure and clear expectations this class might be a struggle
Super fun nice professor, but you spend the first 2/3rds of the class doing introductions (which are really fun) and then do all of the work the last few weeks. Not the worst set up be be prepared for it to be really workload heavy at the end.
Pace has been my favorite professor. He does not use standard teaching methods, but to my surprise they helped me thrive nonetheless. You become close with him and the entire class, while joking and laughing the whole way. He truly is a caring guy and gets to learn each one of his students. His class features homework, but Due the last day.
It was a great and caring professor but expected a lot of input from students. There were group projects and chances for extra credit but the papers were long and required critical thinking. Pace would get off topic a lot and I felt like we didn't learn a lot. It was a fun class, though, but be prepared to talk a lot and work hard for the grade.
Pace is genuinely one of the best professors at UWEC. He made a 2 1/2 hour class go by in what felt like 10 minutes. He works really hard to get to know each of his students and always makes you feel welcome in class. He expects a lot from his students so be prepared to think outside the box. The last few weeks is a lot of work too.
Pace is an incredible person morally, but his class is ran horribly. He does not stay on topic and will do everything but answer your questions. Doesn't respond to emails and it is very hard to know what he wants out of you. Do not leave everything until the last minute because you will regret it. I really do not suggest taking his class.
Pace is one of my favorite professors. He cares deeply for every one of his students and makes an effort to know them. The class took a while to get rolling and the work can pile up if you don't stay on top of it. Your grade is mostly 2 big papers, homework that is turned in at the end of the semester, and participation. Love Pace.
Pace is very intelligent in music and its history. I find this class interesting as we listen to songs and then go in-depth about them during class. I don't know much about music, but it's still easy to participate and get a good grade. He is considerate about workload and can move things around on the syllabus if students need it. Would take again
Pace cares greatly about the courses he teaches and knows exactly what he is talking about. He makes classes interesting and shows passion for the content.
likes participation from his students clarifies assignments well attendance is accounted for
Pace is one of the most caring professors I've had at UWEC. He makes an effort to build a community within the classroom and get to know each student individually. He is very kind and approachable. Some of the assignments were a little confusing, and a lot of work was saved for the end of the semester. Be prepared to work hard for a good grade!
If you like structure, don't take this course. The first six weeks are spent on introductions and then the syllabus is finally sent out. All homework is due on the very last day of class. Pace is very nice and engaging, and there are plenty of fun moments in class, but the structure of the course (or lack thereof) can be challenging and stressful.
Professor Pace is a very fun person, but his class needs more organization to be beneficial to students. You are graded on class participation, a paper/revision of paper, and a final portfolio of homework that you did over the semester. 90% of this is due during finals week. Much of class time is spent off topic--but if you're down, take the class.
He was a very kind person and had clear grading criteria.
Great professor who clearly enjoys teaching and getting to know students. Class, however, is somewhat challenging. Tough grader for papers, however, and a lot of reading
Pace is an amazing prof, but is super disorganized. There's no canvas page, but only four papers. You also do daily assignments, but they only take ten minutes. I liked his class, it's very social, which makes the class a community. Be willing to talk in class and you'll do good in his class. He's super nice and really cares about his students.
Conflicting. Dr. Pace is wonderful as a person and clearly has a passion; he makes academia feel magical. He's very kind/smart. However, his class is very poorly organized, he's made us stay late for 3 hour classes, and he grades based on how well he thinks you "could" do, not how well you did.
Pace is a wonderful person and he truly cares for his students, but the organization of the class is horrendous and the introductions took so long we had about 5 weeks to actually learn and in that time had many large assignments due. Nice nice guy, very hectic class
Amazing class for the first month and a half, quite a cram in the last few weeks though
Absolutely nothing against Pace, I just feel like I did not get anything out of this class. We didn't do any actual work until the last two months, and when we did have assignments they were often very confusing. I loved Pace, but I just wouldn't be able to take another class with him.
Very great and silly guy. I could not complain about a single thing about this man as a person, the funniest prof you'll probably ever have. unfortunately, if you need a lot of structure in class this is not for you! we did introductions for the first 6 weeks I think, and then there's also no canvas page! organization is not a strong suit here
Pace is a kind professor! He cares about all of his students! First 2 months of the course on introductions, lasting 45 min a person. The class itself is easy and fluent, don't let your work pile up. He makes learning fun but needs to work on structure! He is a convincing guy, changes around due dates, gets off-topic, and he will buy you pizza!
NO. Everyone I have ever talked with didn't mind their class with him, but would never take him again. So start early. No Canvas page, unorganized. It is a waste of your money because as I am sure you've seen, he spends the beginning months of the class on introductions. Not a bad last choice, he can teach, but if you can avoid him then go for it.
Pace is a super great guy. Good grader with lots of feedback. Not very much structure, must be present to know what to do for papers. Super lenient with due dates, and understanding of anything. Absolutely recommend taking his class. DO NOT LEAVE ALL HOMEWORK UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR, YOU WILL REGRET
A very sweet guy, but a nightmare of a class. The actual analysis and work regarding poetry was interesting and he has a clear passion for it, but class time was severely wasted and he was very hard to reach outside of class. Class was 2hr 45min and we would spend about 30min of that actually discussing content.
Be ready to do a whole lot of nothing the first few weeks of class. It was just introductions with everyone which was kind of nice. Pay attention to the syllabus and make sure to take notes of when things are due because he will push the due dates back or he'll combine assignments. The papers are pretty easy and straight forward.
Professor Pace is a caring and funny instructor who makes learning enjoyable. While the class lacks structure, he's lenient on due dates. Utilize Unstuckstudy and stay on top of work to succeed.
Pace's classes are an experience. I would truly recommend every single person who has a chance to take one of his classes to do it. This is a professor that will make you think and will leave an impact on your life.
I took him last semester, I just forgot to leave a review but he is one of the kindest and nicest people you will ever meet. His class is super easy if you keep up and is a super easy grader. He cares so much for his students and the first few weeks he just wants to get to know everyone. He does not have a canvas so if you want a canvas don't take.
Pace is a very caring teacher and can be entertaining. This class is perfect for those who haven't gotten used to schedule managing since the first 10 weeks is just introductions and no homework which can also be boring for some. The main downside is there is no canvas so it's hard to know what he expects from you, but his grades are often high.
One of my favorite professors I've ever had, by far. He was super caring and nice. You can tell he was actually passionate about rhetoric and our understanding of literature and art. His outfits and personality always brought good vibes to the classroom.
Going into this class with absolutely no clue what it was like was an experience, to say the least. Pace is eclectic, funny, disorganized, and at times frustrating. There's two papers and a presentation at the end of the semester, but as long as you're on top of it, it's not that bad. Pace is a great person and a bizarre professor! Loved his class!
I'm not finished with the class but will not take his classes again. Accepts the use of AI if you source it, introduces the whole class which takes a month and a half leaving all the coursework to be done in the 2nd half of the semester, doesn't use anything online except emails. Nice guy, his hearts in the right place but he shouldn't be a teacher
Does Not have a canvas page, horrible class structure. Do nothing for first month then towards the end crams so much onto you. Unclear expectations and didn't get syllabus til two months into. Cant miss classes and easy to get in trouble if you don't participate.
