what a funny guy, even though he will hardly smile. if you pay attention and do your work than you will succeed. not too difficult at all. he makes his class very informative and interesting, even though its geography. highly recommended....

Very simple class. Just follow what he asks you to do, memorize the locations on a map, and you will get an A easily. Not too hard, but you do got to work for it.

If you have to take Geog, take it w/ Quam. He makes the class interesting and gives fair exams. His grading is fair also.

Hes so hilarious. Just a funny person. Like a character from the Simpsons or something. Because he doesn't try to be funny, yet is. One of those people.

Easy class lots of group work and be ready to give speeches yes speeches two of them.

Like other reviews say, between Quam and Yearman, definately go Quam. This guy teaches real geography.. Sometimes it's rather boring- but geography is geography. The assignments are a piece of cake and you get a lot more out of this class than Yearman's class. His finals are rather fun, too.

Quam is fun. He definitly believes in snacks during class. The best is his Geography Party, or your final. You memorize tiny bits about everything and discuss them with random people while enjoy food and fun. Him over Yearman any day of the week.

He's kinda weird, but his class is fine. He makes geography as interesting as geography can be. The Party at the end of the quarter is something different, but pretty easy.

Prof. Quam is awesome!! his class was definitely worth my money! very insightful and helpful.. although we had to do two 2-minute speeches and several map quizzes back to back plus 3 exams with some essay questions.. but don't let that scare u away 'coz they're all part of d' learning process ;) take him over yearman- you'll learn more ;)

Great teacher! He has a real dry sense of humor, but he is still cool. You have to do 2 short presentations and a few map quizzes. Other than that just know what he says you have to for the tests and make sure to look over the maps before you take the map quizzes. If you show up you should do well.

Little bit challenging as you have to go through 3 exams containing multiple choice and essays, map quizzes and speeches, but it is a really informative class. If you like geography as a subect, go for Prof. Quam. He has a unique and exciting way of teaching. Don't forget to attend his lectures.

If u wrk hard u can get an A. His tests r hard. Gives quite a lot of wrkshts.Sometimes his wrkshts hav nothing 2 do w/ the tests. Oh & the tests r called "info. festivals." He is funny at times. Gives a map quiz on evry region we cover. He has 2 three min. speeches on a country/state. they rn't that bad. Overall, I recommend that u take him.

He is cool a teacher, seems like he likes the subject that he teaches. I recommend him. I got a C but barely did my work or study. The with Him is to learn the maps and do the worksheets.

Prof. Quam is an excellent geography teacher. You can tell that he loves teaching it, and he likes to add a bit of fun to his lectures. He has a nice, subtle sense of humor that makes the class more easygoing. Now, I love geography, so I am getting an A. However, if geography isn't quite your thing, you're going to have to really study for his tests, especially the essay part, which if you don't study, can prove quite difficult. But don't worry, he does curve them, so as long as you try, you'll be fine.

Prof. Quam is a very good teacher. His lectures are organized, but also fun. He uses websites, videos and music in his lectures to keep things interesting. Tests can be hard, but not too bad as long as you go to class everyday.

I love Prof. Quam! His lectures can drone on and if you want a teacher who does a lot of interatction during lectures, you won't find it in this class. Even so, he is a really nice guy!! His tests are hard though. Show up for class and you should be okay. If you are looking for an easy grade you won't find it in his class.

EASY TEACHER IF YOU ATTEND CLASS

It's an easy class, but it's not a blow off. His tests are a lil difficult, but if you pay attention in class and do the reading worksheets you should be OK. There are plenty of extra credit opportunities too. People who didn't do well in his class were probably lazy. It's college, you need to do more than attend. All and all, he wasn't too bad.

Professor quam is really nice but he is a little bit boring you have to do packets for each region but those are preatty easy u can find the stuff online without even looking at the book i took the class 2 months in i hadnt even bought my book yet and still was getting a b i recomend him

Most of this class was based outside of the classroom, most work was done in a computer. When in class, the lectures were dry. It seemed like the lectures were going nowhere and where pointless. He was a bit boring.

Prof. Quam is a very genuine smart man. I really had no interest in geography prior to his class but after a few weeks of taking the class I really got into it. I learned so much!He is not the easiest prof but you will learn a lot. Also he is really not that difficult if you study and do the worksheets:)I got a high B.

GREAT PROFESSOR!!! Come to class, take notes, read the book, take the easy tests and BAM...."A". If you miss a test, he will allow you to take make up the test. He grades on a point system, so get as many ponits as you can.

awesome teacher. funny and interesting. he uses various methods to teach so you actually come out of the class with learning something. i got an A, its easy but you gotta stay on top of your assignments. TAKE THIS CLASS!

Prof Quam is a wonderful teacher. I love all his techniques and he is very knowledgable! He tries to entertain you! I'll miss him after this semester. Make sure to do your packets and STUDY them..his notes are crucial for the tests he gives you. He is quirky and eccentric & really cares about teaching you!!

Prof Quam is a really nice guy and he is always making class interesting and thinking of new ways to teach the material. Tests are somewhat difficult, but there are opportunities for extra credit. There is also a lot of homework to keep up with.

Professor Quam is the man. Laid back, dry sense of humor, incredibly tolerant, sincere guy. Very helpful - presents content in a way that makes it relevant to the individual. Caring guy - inspires concern for international affairs, kind to the class, unique personality.

Professor Quam is awesome! He's a really chill dude. His jokes are corny and he knows it, making them even funnier! Hardest thing about the class is remembering where cities and countries are...its not rocket science. Just an overall great guy.

Prof. Quam is a AWESOME. He's really laid back and keeps class entertaining. He truly wants you to pass as well. He gives you opportunities to turn stuff in late and corrects all the tests and gives us points back. The finals a "party" where we just have to tell a person he picks out for us a little about one of the countries. 100% recommendation!!

Good teacher and very understanding.. He's extremely hard.. when it comes to your presentation hes and extremely hard grader.. tons of extra credit offered tho, try to do all of ur extra credit coz trust me ull need them.. tests are rly hard but the essay portion of it isnt at all.

Incredible professor, definitely not easy, but you can get an A. Best teacher I've had at COD so far. Just do the extra credit, and actually read the chapters assigned, and take lots of notes. It's not so much that you know the names of places, it's that you know something about the places themselves. He should be teaching at harvard, not COD. :)

If you really want to handle a conversation about the world and its places you should take this class, 100% recommendable. The final test is a very nice activity. Is an awesome teacher!

He is the best professor at COD. Because of the difficulty of the course and the amount of work required, I learned far more than I expected to. I have never been more satisfied with any other course or professor.

He is a great teacher. He's sort of goofy and kids around sometimes. His tests are fairly easy. You have one map quiz for each section which are usually multiple choice. I wouldn't say attending class is mandatory, but some of the things he teaches will be on the test and is good to know. Lots of extra credit opportunities.

Quam is the best. Its hard not to learn something in his class and its not crazy hard. all you have to do is pay attention.

He's really really nice but his class is so much work. Easy stuff but just too much to handle. I'd recommend him but you just got to be on top of things. :)

Quam has a very boring voice but he is very effective in the notes he gives. The study guides assigns have all the information needed to know on the test unlike many other classes I have. Hard to stay awake sometimes but you aren't in any trouble if you don't all the time

Professor Quam is awesome! I learned more in this class than any other class. Tests and quizzes are straightforward, and fair workload. Take him if you are taking geography 1100.

Amazing teacher!! This is the second class I have taken with him. I have received an A in both classes and I do not take many notes in class. He gives out a lot of EC. Also has a curve in the 3 major test you take. Great Professor! Great Person! Highly recommend taking him. People who say you will fail if you take this class are highly wrong

Quam is my FAVORITE teacher at COD! He's great at teaching--always clear, simple and passionate about geography. He's also really laid back, funny and helpful. I'm missing a lot of class because of surgery and he's made it really easy on me. I trust his material, and he just makes learning so fun. Thanks Quam!!

He is such a good teacher. He gives out these long study guides before the test. Thats probably the only downfall. But you can complete them a couple days before and you'll be fine. He offers so much extra credit, and also makes lectures and notes humorous. He is really a great teacher.

Professor Quam was one of my first professors. He really knows his subject, and had something to add for every country we talked about. It's not the easiest class, but if you put in the work and read, you'll have no problem getting an A. He really wants everyone to succeed, and won't penalize you for missing class. Take him, you'll learn a lot.

An awesome guy. He tries to make the class different than your typical western world geography course. He has many ppt notes but very interesting stuff in them. Guaranteed you'll learn something you didn't know each time you step in his class. Assigns packets for each region we learn, which are easy and offers LOTS of extra e.c!! Would take again

Loved this course and I learned so much! One of my favorite classes at COD. Although online, the tests are taken in the testing center. The tests are part multiple choice, matching, truefalse, and essay. The more you write the more points you earn. Daily reading involved along with daily discussion posts. Have to read a book to write an essay.

Took the same class with a different teacher and did terrible due to teacher, then took Mr. Quam and it changed the class for me. love showing up to class. makes stuff interesting. has a good sense of humor. incorporates games into his lectures so they aren't boring. HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU TAKE QUAM FOR GEOGRAPHY!

I was horrible at Geography before taking this class and was scared I would do bad. But Quam is amazing and he treats you like a college student. Take time and study the maps and you'll be golden.

Easy, fun class. You learn a lot and it gives you an idea of places to travel in the future. You have 3 big tests, but you just need to do the study guides and you will have no problem passing.

Pretty easy class as long as you put the work in. He provides a substantial amount of extra credit throughout the semester, allows you take quizzes/test late (although I would recommend that they be taken on time and in class), and also lets you turn your assignments in past the due date. This class makes me want to travel even more.

He is a funny guy, a little strange but that's what keeps you interested. He made geography very intriguing for me. His tests included EVERYTHING though, from other peer presentations to little side comments during notes. So study everything! but LOTS of extra credit! Very understanding as well.

Prof. Quam is really really funny. His class was not hard at all, but he clicks really quick through slides and it's hard to write all the notes down. You do two presentations by yourself, but it isn't too bad. The rest is mainly taking notes and filling out packets that hold information for the tests. I highly recommend Quam.

Joel is honestly such a sweetheart. The guy literally gives you the syllabus and tells you everything you need to do to get an A in the course. He wants his students to succeed. Although it may be a lot of work and overwhelming at first, it isn't that bad and you put the work in for the grade you want. The speeches were honestly cake.

Professor Quam really makes Geography fun and engaging for his students. Reading the textbook and completing the assigned packets is a must to get an A, as that is the information on the tests. Lots of extra credit and with a moderate amount of work, it's not hard to get an A in his classes. You can sense his passion for the subject.

This class is very straight forward and to the point. As long as you show up and take good notes youll do great on the tests and quizzes. There is a lot of room for error because Professor Quam offers opportunities to get extra points on quizzes and tests. Great teacher and interesting lectures!

Great teacher. He is super understanding and willing to help out his students. The class was easy itself, but be sure to take notes for the tests because they are a bit harder. People have said he has a monotone voice but I did not mind his teaching at all. E-book also was super convenient and also free! Keep up, and you'll be fine.

Professor Quam is a great & undemanding teacher. As long as you do the homework and read the textbook, you'd have no problem passing with an A. He is a very easy grader and the assigned homework and tests are not too complicating.

Very knowledge on his subject and is always happy to help if needed. There are a lot of reading packets though but they aren't hard. TAKE NOTES.

Joel Quam has been my favorite college professors so far. He really puts a lot of effort into his lectures and is super knowledgeable about geography. He definitely made the course great even though it was through zoom. Highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great professor with clear grading standards. Also the textbook was free!!!

Prof Quam loves his subject & works hard to make his class fun & enjoyable. No group projects or papers in this VCM class. We use a free, online book. There's some busy work but it's designed to help you keep up with the reading. Also, there are some map quizzes, a few fun simple assignments, & 3 exams. Overall, a little time consuming but not hard

This class was completely online and self-paced with no sessions. Homework consists of reading the FREE TEXTBOOK he contributed to, watching youtube videos, taking online quizzes, and writing discussion posts sharing your thoughts and ideas about what you read/saw. He responds to emails quickly and gives opportunities for extra credit! 10/10!

I personally loved his class. There will be a speech or two to give, which might bother some. His lectures were usually fun and interactive. He genuinely cares about spreading his knowledge of the world and it's worth a listen. He is a little quirky but I enjoyed it. He makes the tests as easy as he can without giving free As.
