4 test and 1 cumulative finals. At times he is confusing and does not like if someone ask too many questions. Overall average.
Hard to understand. Kind of confusing
Took the 8 week summer course. If you didn't understand something and you actually asked then he would go back over it. He is a good teacher.
I find statistics confusing, nonetheless I think he was more or less fair with the material. He puts a bit too much weight on the tests, considering that the majority of the class did poorly on them. I think the class would have faired better with more in-class activities. Overall a nice guy and a decent professor.
Horrible. Absolutely horrible. I took his summer class and couldn't understand a single thing. He's all over the place, unclear, confusing, and especially, incompetent. I can't believe he's actually a professor.
I took his summer class and his teaching was a bit confusing. You have study on your own most of the time and there were 3 tests and a final. He will let you correct one test and a chance to do extra credit. I suggest to only take his class if you're really desperate to take a math class.
Take a class with him only if nobody else has space. Terrible teacher, confusing and not helpful at all, not even in the Math Center. Why was he hired?
I don't understand where all these bad reviews came from???Professor Sheldon has good sense of humor, that's a huge plus. Also he always reviews all the problems before test. So you know the exact problems that will be on a test. Just practice, that's all you need. I didn't need a book, because he explains everything in class. Cool teacher!!!
I'm not sure what these reviews are about. I took his summer class, and it was a lot of work, but I ended up with an A. He has a good sense of humor and always tries to make the material as easy as he can. Overall, I'd say hes a good teacher. Just be prepared to work for your grade, like you should in a math class
the teacher doesnt know how to taech that well
He teaches way too fast and gets offended if you ask questions. He gets confused easily and messed up the hw/class schedule for the semester. Goes extremely fast and doesn't' explain things. Sometimes doesn't tell us how to do the steps. Students in my class have had to correct him numerous times. Worst teacher ever.
Sheldon is the WORST professor EVER. i took his class cus it fit in my schedule for the summer. DO NOT even take him if its your only option. he goes too fast, he gets annoyed when you ask questions, he expects you to know the answers. he really should not be teaching, cus he basically doesnt know how to. for someone who doesnt get math, STAY AWAY
He is a very good professor at IVC. At times he might be confusing, but he would always go back to the material that we don't understand.
This class was awful. I didn't know it was possible to un-teach math, but he definitely succeeded. I got stuck in this class because I didn't take matriculation seriously, so I feel so bad for everyone learning all of this for the first time or people who really need help. If you can, please avoid his class.
i have taken 2 math classes with him and will take 3A , best math teacher in IVC. i highly recommend him. his classes are an easy A. His tests are super easy and most of the questions are in the review worksheet +HW
He's a good teacher. He tries to find an easy way for his students to understand all subjects. Participation in his class is mandatory. If you lose a class you miss a lot. He's pretty clear also not a hard teacher. He's flexible and let his students be relax at math class.
There are basically 4 tests and no quizzes. So you have to do good on the tests and if you have questions he can help you if you ask. You need your textbook for the beginning of the class to use it class and after you don't need it.
Professor Sheldon is a great teacher and I have no idea why he has such low ratings on this thing. When I first saw his ratings I was intimidated and afraid to take math with him but by the end of the semester professor Sheldon became my favorite professor and I will most definitely be taking my other math classes with him. He is awesome!
Professor Sheldon's class was challenging, but I managed to pass. You will succeed in his class if you study and put effort.
SHELDON IS TERRIBLE. He is the only math teacher I have EVER had that is terrible. He acts like he is gonna help you out but then puts random questions on the test. He assigns way too much homework and is a chapter ahead of some of the classes. He is at least 2 sections ahead of the closest class I know. Math used to be easy for me. Not anymore.
OKay class. do all the homework and you should do fine. Tests were okay but final was hard.
He's a nice guy, BUT not a math teacher. He doesn't teach, he only do problems and answer them by himself. If you ask him a question he would say "Oh, they told me" and would not answer your question!! Not really helpful guy. Don't take with him unless you have too. You have to take advantage of the Math Center especially "Jordan" He's so GOOD!!
He was a good teacher I took him in the summer as a repeat since I failed the class in the fall. His worksheets are what's on the tests.
Very friendly, helpful and funny professor. 3 midterms (50 %) and one final (30 %). First exam was by far the easiest. Homework and quizzes were worth 20 % of our grade. He curved our exams and provided extra credit opportunities. He will help you out in the math center if you have any questions. Homework is quite intense, so buy the solution man.
I had Math 2 and 3A with him. He is a great guy and his lectures are very clear. His exams are not very hard if you do the homework and final is easier than exams.
over explains things and doesnt come out clear. Makes uneccessary remarks. doesnt require homework. The worksheets only count for 1 pt each, the tests are difficult even if you study from the study guide. If you get low grades on tests, i wouldnt take this class. I would learn notes from the book or online than listen to his lecture
Really tough class with confusing lectures
He is a really good math teacher. His personality is the best. His lecture would not be the best tho to be honest. But he cares his students a lot and I highly recommend his class especially for those who are not good at math. He gives lots of extra credit. I also recommend you to take his class if you can study by yourself.
I've always had trouble with math, even when I would work hard at it, I would still do poorly. If you're like me and math doesn't come easy to you at all, take this class. The professor explains almost everything he does and makes it very simple to understand, no tricks, no shortcuts. Just the basics. It's great if you need a lot of help in math.
This is the first math class ever I enjoy going to. Sometimes he moves a little fast, but it's my job to catch up. He's always willing to help. Hope to get im for my next class! He's funny in a good way.
He is such a nice professor but he is not that good in lecturing which makes it hard to understand the lesson. Also that impacts getting a a little bit more challenging. he does give a lot of extra credit and very lenient with due dates.
The class was made up of 3 tests and the final which was cumulative. He assigns a decent amount of homework on mystatlab so be ready for that. Every class is boring and the same since he reads directly off the powerpoints. Best thing about him is that he adds points to every test.
Took online math 10, was happy to pass with a C. Did not respond to a simple question I had that was worded very politely and never did respond. Took over a month to grade our midterms and was overall pretty careless as he gave 2 updates about the class the whole semester. Don't expect to pass his class if you have a difficult time with math.
Math 10 was horrible for me! He is very caring and silly, but, easily gets irritated if you don't understand the material. If you do take him, don't listen to the lectures, just get your homework done in class.
Took this 5 unit class over summer so in 8 weeks. It was very homework heavy and each class could get boring with the material, but he is hilarious so made the time pass quick!!. 3 multiple choice tests, online homework, a few activities due on day of test,EC, and a cumulative final. Not hard just expect to spend a lot time on hw if in 8 weeks!
I took this class because I have to, but this professor has made sure that I will hate math for the rest of my life. Incredibly unhelpful, basically tells you tough luck if you don't know how to do something and he is incredibly unprofessional. I already struggle with math and he did not help me in the slightest bit because it inconvenienced him.
I took this stats class online. Online videos were different professors, not him. Discussion posts were posted, never had exact due dates or even notified they were posted until close to the due date. Doesn't help over emails. The course seemed unorganized. I learned stats, just not from him. Videos, slides everything was from Pearson publishing.
I really like him as a person. He's nice and makes jokes but as a teacher, no. I have trouble in math in general and I've had teachers that would break everything down step by step. You won't get that here. You'll live in the math center. I will say he does grade tests leniently but reviews won't prepare you for the 3 exams and final. Study!!
Disrespectful to his students, overly critical grades, and doesn't allow his students enough time and attention to cover the material
If you're looking for a teacher that is patient and willing to help learn the material then find another teacher. This professor is never available at the math tutoring center to help his students. Often, his lectures consist mostly of talking AT students rather than engaging with them. Lastly, his lectures move too fast to keep up or take notes.
Really funny! Made the 8am class bearable.
I have no idea why he has a 2.7, Sheldon is really chill and accommodating! His tests are very fair and match his activities, in class examples, and homework problems. I'm taking the 8 week summer course so the class is very homework heavy but it's still doable if you do 1 section a day. He's clear and goes step by step.
I did get an A ... but i did spend a lot of time studying and practicing his study for the test. attendance is not mandatory but helpful for doing well on his tests. he allows extra credit by giving you half your points back on the lowest exam score with test corrections. he's super funny and the class is enjoyable - but it's not the easiest.
One of my favorite professors of all time. The material itself can be difficult but like in any calculus class it's up to you to take the time to really understand it. Sheldon makes his lectures straightforward and tells you what to expect on the test. I suggest making yourself stand out, answer his questions because he'll remember that about you.
Joel Sheldon is a thorough professor. If you join, I suggest you show up to class, do the homework, and extra credit. Easy grader and involved tutors to help students towards the end of class to work on an activity sheet. An optional math workshop is also available. Lots of extra credit. I highly suggest him.
Sheldon's class was amazing, he's very kind and wants to help you pass the class, he offers extra credit to redo exams, and is always willing to help his students and others at the math center with other tutors. Sheldon made me enjoy coming all the time. His teaching methods are amazing and always got me to understand it in the end. Green-Guy.
Prof. Sheldon is, in my opinion, the best math prof at IVC. He is very eager to help his students learn the material and pass the class with a good grade. His hilarious and caring personality makes you want to learn math and work hard to learn it. There's an ample amount of homework, but it's do-able and he offers lots of chances for extra credit.
great professor, very caring, provide a lot of useful information. He also provides a quick feedback. I would recommend his class.
He is nice and funny in person. The grade on exam is very fair. He offers Math center extre time for student who has trouble on math. I like to work hard and do some hand writing as the homework after his class. If you do not like hand writing or spend time on your homework to help you improve your grade. Please do not choose his class.
I had him for 8am lecture and he made it durable. He's super funny and caring for his students. What helped me a lot was rewriting my notes and going to the Math Center where he also goes so you can get help. If you do the homework and asl questions you will be fine. He let us use graphing calculators, but you didn't really need them.
This professor is useless. He taught us for a month before campus closed for COVID-19. In that month, he didnt really teach. Just kinda talked AT us. Once we switched to online, he stopped teaching entirely. He posted chicken scratch notes meant to serve as lectures, never answered questions and didnt communicate deadlines. HORRIBLE.
Sheldon's class ONLINE teaching is awful, in my opinion, LOTS of homework, will start classes early or late at times. Do not get me wrong, he is a GREAT person, but his online teaching is not suited for everyone, He barely gives a break online. He isn't as easily accessible online. My overall opinion I would not take him Online. in person i would.
be forewarned for online class he is homework heavy, his teaching for me is not as well understanding when teaching and the times he starts and ends class are uncertain as it can start early or end early or start later and end later. would not take his class ever online as to say.
I never write reviews but I just finished his summer course and received a HIGH A. Understand, given the current situation teaching will be different and maybe not as intimate as it was in class. Show up to lectures, ask questions, he is very helpful. He also heavily curves which honestly goes a long way. Only con: there's A LOT of hw
I took this class online. A lot of homework, but if you are willing to do it you will pass. I have never met this professor, but I know he is a very caring and good professor. He is willing to help his students to succeed. 1 midterm 1 final . 3-4 discussions board. Try to do homework a head of time and you will be fine. Good teacher. Thanks. N Pham
As long as you know what you're doing, his lectures can be on a second monitor as you work on the assignments. No excessive pressure for participation, but is still accessible and provides helpful explanations inside and outside of class. If you're looking to get through this course with minimal trouble, I recommend him
He deserves a higher rate, People don't like him because math is hard in general. I really enjoyed his lecture. He is extremely understanding, and helpful. Homework is not that heavy, practice is essential if you want to learn math well. if you have any math questions you can ask him, he will help u! extra credits!pick him if you want an easy A
Amazing! He explains so well that Im taking as many classes with him as I could. I was nervous to move forward with calculus but hes such a good prof that Im sticking with him. He give extra credit and allows extra attempts to understand your homework and raise your grade! Very very good!
EASY A. I don't like to ask for help or meet with others... basically, I learned everything from the website he gives and never asks him for help. Threre are three exams in the morning time. Have extra credit. I got 99/100.
He teaches well. He is super caring and sweet. I wish he also had a math 3B class. Take him. The only bad point about this class is a lot of homework, however; test questions are similar to homework questions so it helps you get a good grade.
I am an English Major who has always struggled with math. Professor Sheldon made everything so clear and was so helpful w/ any questions I had. Quick to to reply by email. All tests were written answer, which was wonderful. Truly inspirational, so glad I had this Professor. This is the first A in math I have had since freshman year of HS! Amazing!
Took his 8 am class for calculus. The lectures are 2.5 hours long but they were pretty interesting-You get a 10 minute break. In my experience, the homework was rough but he takes in people's feedback and adjusts the workload for future homework. Exams were rough but he does have a good review. Know your TRIG and take advantage of your graphingcalc.
Super great professor but you have to put in the work. Review is exactly like the test. I took it over the summer it was faster paced but it was all really digestible and straightforward. In his lectures he does a bunch of problems which might scare a few people away but if you ask questions and do the HW you WILL get a good grade in this class.
Sheldon is the besttttt!!!!
Prof. Sheldon goes out of his way to help students understand difficult concepts. I took him for the summer session, and although the material is condensed he made it very easy to understand. Waking up for 8AM classes can be rough, but his lectures are entertaining and engaging. Just make sure you complete the homework on time, it can pile up fast!
idk whos rating prof sheldon so low bt he's honestly such an intelligent & great guy! He knows exactly when to be serious and when to be hilarious. Put in the extra time, do the homework, and go to the tutoring center if you want an A. Don't be afraid to ask him questions and do all the homework!! Its so beneficial.
Professor Sheldon is the best professor I have ever had in IVC. He always encourages students to get help at the math center, and he is easy to communicate with.
such a good professor! be sure to ask questions and go to the tutoring center if u want to pass!
Best math professor!
Very generous professor. Ask long as you work hard, he will do everything to help you. Also, very funny.
Nice man but I'm not a fan of his teaching style. His lectures can be confusing, fast, & he doesn't get straight to the point. Lots of hw; I find myself having to try harder to finish LOADS of hw rather than being able to use that time to understand concepts. The homework can be confusing & does not feel helpful either.
he is the director of the math center and one of the tutors was being so rude to me and it was so bad that my complaint reached the dean. he messaged back to the dean saying that the tutor is always very conscious of her actions and has always been and will continue to be patient and welcoming, disregarding everything i was saying.
He's nice & accessible in the tutoring center, but I hate how he structures his class & teaching. There's tedious excessive online hw. He rushes content & does not review or elaborate on concepts. His "lectures" simply consist of him quickly solving problems by himself instead of actually TEACHING students how to do them.
The teacher is a good person, funny and nice. He just doesn't let the subjects clear, don't have patient of students asking questions.
He was a great professor and very understanding. Homework gets graded on completion and he offers extra credit by correcting previous exams. Study guides were very similar to the exams. The only tedious thing was the person's homework, it was a lot. My grade was from my lack of effort and studying.
The tests are so difficult and homework is heavy. I do not think the homework is good for tests. You need to extra time to learn the math3A. He did not teach the concept and just do questions in the class. I do not recommend him. But he would give the extra credit. The tests are similar to exams
I fought for my grade but overall amazing good teacher! Work hard please so u can do well he is so good yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
Took this class over the summer, but overall Professor Sheldon is really good! Funny guy, clear lectures through his notes and annotations on OneNote, and he's available in the Math Center. Exams are very similar to the study guides. He doesn't deserve any hate!
3 exams which make up 50% of the grade, final makes up another 22.5%. Despite this, gives tons of homework assignments, which are the only way to actually learn the material since lectures consist of him doing problems on the board quickly and with sometimes obscure methods.
Worst Professor ever. Do not take Calc with this professor. You will only understand if you have previous background knowledge of Calc. Does not teach. Does not help at all.
Do not take unless you have previously taken a calculus course. If this is your first time taking a calculus course, don't take his class at all costs. He does not teach, rather runs through the problems quickly and doesn't explain anything. His extra credit is also not much at all, very insignificant. Do not take.
Unless you know your stuff, do not take this man's class. He will not teach you, he will do problems at lightning speed and you will likely catch nothing during his lectures. Exams graded super heavy, tons of hw problems. Pay an extra $120+ for the online hw and textbook. Print out his slides to make notes during class, God be with you.
this dude is like so chill i like him, but his lectures be a bit confusing at times (dont be afraid to ask for clarification). he uses webassign but he extends the deadline for everyone if one person asks for an extension. if u skip class u might be cooked but otherwise he chill and his lectures are ight.
I've never had him for a math class, but throughout my two years at IVC, he's been respectful and supportive to everyone he interacts with in the math center, old and new. Thank you professor Sheldon!
Easy class if you put in a decent amount of work. Lectures require attention. However, he's always in the Math Center willing to answer questions all the time. He gives a review for each test which is a mimic of the actual test. Very solid teacher. 5/5
I loved taking Math124 with Prof. Sheldon. He's a very funny guy. This class is very intro and everything is spelled out in his syllabus. The only struggle was the homework, there is a lot but it is not difficult. His test reviews are a one-to-one of the exam with just different numbers. Only negative is the $120 textbook that is req for homework.
This is one of the worst math experiences I've had in school. He does his lectures at lightning speed and is a very strict grader. He barely explains and expects you to know everything. Don't take this class unless you have previous calc experience. If you want a good grade,
One of the worst experiences with a teacher. He doesn't teach in class; everything is self-taught. Harsh grading on small mistakes and an overwhelming homework load. If you're not very strong in math, you'll struggle. He speeds through material too fast. Avoid this class if you can.
