Great Teacher
No Comments
Awesome teacher. Very funny, very helpful, and generally a really down to earth guy. Also lets you use notes and book on exams. Highly recommended.
Teaches mostly Business Law and Accounting. VERY helpful instructor. Classes are generally easy, yet thought provoking. Very knowledgeable in subject manner. Refers to everyone by their last name and WILL call on you in class.
Great teacher. Definately knows his stuff.
Awesome professor
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Great guy who really teaches well.
nothing but praise, take if possible
The best professor ever. Very smart, very good at what he does. Nice guy. Awesome. Take any and all classes he teaches!
Probably Tech's Best!!! Best that I have had anyway.
AWESOME TEACHER!!! Take if possible. As long as you go to his very involved, informational, practical classes, it's in the bag. Never skipped a class, cuz they're great to go to. Extra credit if people don't show up :)
you cant beat joel when it comes to finding a fair teacher that is all about giving an A for people who try. take him.
Fantastic teacher. Just make sure you know your stuff...
If tech had more teachers like this guy there wouldnt be a problem with enrollment. Go to all classes! Great teacher, interesting lectures.
Best class I've ever had, he knows how to teach, captively.
Sweet teacher. Easy if you go to class.
Joel is freakin awesome!!! Business Law was the best class I had this semester and the only class I ever actually looked forward to. Joel is a great guy and a great prof. Definitely going to be taking all the classes I can from him.
AWESOME teacher! You will learn so much even if you don't care about Business Law. The more you go to class, the more opportunities you have to opt out of the final...I didn't get a chance to opt out and his final was LOOOOOOOOONG...So suck it up and go
One of the best teachers at MTU. If more people were like him people would WANT to go to school! He makes class fun and gets you thinking 'real worldish'. Makes you work but you actually learn stuff that will help in the future!
Favorite teacher, so far.
Best professor I've ever had. He makes you think and gives you useful information. Awesome guy all around.
Class is very easy if you attend class, he'll give incentives for being at class that you will miss if you are not there. Uses good examples for all his classes (accounting, business law) and is an all around nice guy. One of my favorite teachers at Tech.
Excellent teacher! One of the best I've had at MTU. Definately take him if you can.
Summer class but excellent class because Joel rocks!!
Joel is a great teacher. Make sure you put a good faith effort into his classes. He's easy to talk to and you'll breaze through the class as long as you go. I had him for Business Law and Accounting, and he's just a great proffesor!
Best professor I've ever had.
Joel is a really easy teacher as long as you are prepared and do the work! He gives lots of opportunities to get out of taking the final. I learned a lot in this class.
Best professor ever. If I could I would take him for every class I have.
Absolutely the greatest teacher there is. He has the best stories and they all pertain to the material which is also very interesting. Make sure you go to class!! I wish I had him every semester.
Excellent teacher, though he tends to yell his material so don't sit in front. Easy if you come to class and take notes. Don't wait to take his class as a senior, because your lack of motivation to take notes or attend class really hurts you:-) (I know, lol.)
Joel is awesome. He hated my class, but he was still a kick ass teacher. Now how many people can you say that about?
Joel was awesome, never had a problem with him or any of the material. His analogies to local happenings were always fun to hear, and i got to deliver pizza to the guy a couple times, lol, great tipper ;) always recommend joel, and look forward to working with him this year, as he is joining the lode as faculty advisor
This class is a lot better than Bus Law I. Get's away from contracts and helps you with real life situations. Very Interesting.
Very good and interesting professor
Excellent teaching style with stories that relate to the material being covered. Thorough and he makes sure you understand the material.

Absolutely awesome, even in the first week. Explains everything in simple terms so you can understand the lawterms easier
Terrible handwriting, awesome everything else. He can teach clearly and simply which is difficult with law. For one example of a contract, he gave someone $20 to run up and down the EERC. Then he couldn't find a legal loop to get out of the contract, so the kid got the $20. Also, dont skip or sleep in class. Pay attention and youll learn alot.
Go to class every day and you will do awesome. Besides, it's not a class you don't like going to. Best teacher I've had here so far. Take good notes, you can use them for quizes, the midterm, and final. Take Joel for anything if you can!
Joel is great. He makes class very interesting, and is very clear on all the laws. Has great examples and makes u think. I would definetly take this class. Just don't sleep or he'll chew your head off.
Joel is friggin' awesome. Very clear and concise about the material and all other questions. He'll even give you free legal advice. He teaches you how people can screw you over, but he also teaches you how to screw over other people. Take this class.
Best college teacher ever.
Take Good notes, do your homework, and you will do fine. And he is a little cuttie too. :)
As long as you go to class every day and don't sleep during class, you'll do fine. Joel covers everything in simple, easy terms and gives examples that apply to students and real world situations. He's just great! Make sure you take good notes, as he likes to test on phrases he uttered during class and what not.
Best professor at MTU!!
Take his classes, period.
He's an awesome teacher. He doesn't just teach the material but how you can relate it to real life situations. He makes himself very available to your needs. Take his classes. Also, he has fun stories.
Great guy, solid teacher, related the material to real-life situations. Just make sure you take good notes and you will be fine, since you are permitted to use your notes on tests and quizzes.
Fun, interesting teacher. Take a ton of notes because the exams are open note exams and the questions are all covered in class so there are no surprises. I highly recommend taking his class
Awesome Professor. Great Guy. He keeps classes entertaining and informative. Don't sleep in class, or you'll end up writing a report. Also, show up to class because much of the information is obtained in class. He's the best professor I've had, and I'd recommend his class.
Good with his work and teaching appears to be his element, just as easily as law or accounting. Runs a well structured class; attend, take notes, and don't fall asleep and you'll do great. A definite recommend.
Had him for Accounting, Business Law, and Intellectual Property Law. The best... hands down. Tells hilarious stories, and what ifs, that relate to the material so you absorb things better. I heard he's leaving because of some jerk complaining to the dean about him. Terrible loss for MTU cause he's impossible to replace. Long live Joel!!!
One of Tech's best teachers, and a great asset to the SBE. He tells good stories which actually relate to the material and does a great job of maintaining your interest. Show up, take good notes (which you can use on your exams), don't sleep and enjoy yourself. That's all there is to it.
Excelent teacher makes sure you understand the topic. Just dont fall asleep and do the reading and you will do well.
I had him for Institutions, and he taught it with a touch of business and law. The readings are somewhat complicated, but in class he will explain them, making them pretty clear. He doesn't mess around though if you disrespect him or fall asleep in his class though, so watch out for that.
Inspiring. One of Tech's best professors. He is genuinely interested in teaching the material. I'm going to law school because of him.
Best teacher ever!
Joel Tuorineimi is the best professor. He cares about students and strives to help them learn the material well. He has a passion for what he teaches. He gets to know students and remembers them. He is one of the professors that will see you around campus and say "Hi, Miss/Mr. (last name). How's it going?"
greatest professor i have had in my 3 years at tech. Would take any course he teaches.
If you're browsing classes for registration and see his name... sign up.
He should get a Nobel Award for being that good.
Joel is an excellent professor. His lectures are well prepared. He involves all of his students. He shows everyone a level of respect that I often don't even see at the work place. Joel takes subjects that is manadtory for students to take, and makes it fun, interesting, and educational for everyone. He's the best professor there is.
The best teacher I've had. He's the reason I became an accountant.
Best teacher Michigan Tech has
Great teacher. Lectures are interesting and funny; I expected the class to be boring, but it was my most enjoyable class of the semester.
Best College Professor EVER!!! He has great stories that help understand concepts!!!
Great
GREAT TEACHER.. is actually very interesting to listen to.
Joel is an awesome professor. He is extremely helpful and he's one of those professors that has you once and always remembers you. Says "Hi, how's it going" when he randomly sees you on campus.
my favorite teacher.
My favorite prof. I'm an engineering major and took this class because so many of my friends recommended him. Be sure to keep up on the readings though. He doesn't like when you show up for class not prepared.
Great teacher!
he knows exactly what he's talking about, and he's very passionate about teaching. great teacher
Best Professor at Tech
You will enjoy and want to go to class everyday. His lectures are well done and he has a gift for teaching. Take all classes you can with Joel.
Simply the best. He's excited about teaching and expects the most out of his students.
agreed...he's the best prof at Tech hands down
Great Guy. Great teacher. Come prepared for each class, or he will make an example of you.
Joel has a distinct gift for teaching with the Socratic method. He asks YOU thought provoking questions that make you think about the topic and it makes him really great. Come prepared and don't fall asleep because he takes it personally and he WILL make an example of you, however humorously :)
Money in the Bank
Joel is simply outstanding as a person and a teacher. Very helpful when you need, and very understanding and accomodating. He wants you to succeed, and is very passionate about what he teaches. Come prepared to class, and be willing to answer questions. He gets pissed when people don't prepare, and Joel pissed is a scary thing!
Great teacher. Engaging, excited, funny. Cool guy in general.
Easy and cool guy
Joel is the man. Take him over anyone else. He really wants you to take other classes with him too, which seems like it would be pretty sweet.
Joel is an awesome guy, but you better come ready to work.
great class to take with a great professor.
Hated this class. He talked extremely fast, scribbled illegibly on the the board, and used a ridiculous amount of abbreviations that no one understands. The book is terrible and he doesn't give you any resources. Does not grade in a timely manor and doesn't show you grades or where you stand at all. Exams are long, hard, and very detailed.
Had him for Perspectives of the Supreme Court. Knew nearly nothing before the class, but with excellent examples and good teaching the info really stuck. Make sure you are always prepared!
Best Professor I've had in any institution, between two universities and high school. Great human being in general, nothing but respect for him.
I took BA5300 as an Online MBA student. Students essentially teach themselves the material by reading the book, however I give the prof props because he really is willing put in the time with you if you need help. Everything is fair on the exams. Some questions are tough but nothing you're going to be upset about. I'd take another class with him.
I thought accounting would be boring but it turned out to be my favorite class. Joel explained things clearly and showed how the material applied to actual companies. He expects you to come to class prepared but is fair with grading.
Notes are impossible to take as he abbreviates just about everything. If you do take his class, get help right away with everything even if you don't think you'll need it. His class is super tough and the exams are difficult. I never finished an in class exam because I ran out of time.
Uses the book for everything and abbreviates everything, making taking notes a pain. However, he is very helpful if you can get with him to explain things. Exams are super tough.
Not your typical Accounting teacher. He will literally give you "Life Lessons" in class. He is what I'd call the essence of the Keweenaw Peninsula.
Was by far the hardest class I had this semester. Required to read at least a chapter a week and take a good outline to be able to participate in class. Don't even think about sleeping or taking your phone out in class either. If you show up to class and his office hours, you will pass! He's a great professor and always willing to help!
Mr. Tuorineimi is seriously one of the best Profs at Michigan Tech! If you can take a class with him, by all means do it. He is tough. His classes sure aren't easy but he is an incredibly intelligent individual. He shares "life tips for success" that are the greatest. Has the BEST and funniest stories and is SUPER passionate about what he does.
Awesome teacher--very clear! Lectures usually go right up to the last minute of class, but he does a good job of keeping them interesting. I learned a lot in this class and actually understood the material. Know the material in the book because he asks questions in the class and if he calls on you, you better know the answer!
Joel is one of my favorite professors in the SOB. He made me realize how much accounting connects to real world situations and made it interesting to learn. If you show him the effort he will notice and reward you for that. I would definitely recommend taking a class with him! P.S. Don't miss class either.
Joel is one of a kind! His class is always interesting and he is a very caring person. It is rare to come by a professor that holds the amount of passion he has for helping his students grow academically, and personally.
Joel is one of the best professors at MTU, hands down. His lectures can be hard to follow if you don't pay attention, but he provides great real-world examples and highlights the nuances and gray areas in the accounting world. Makes the subject extremely interesting and is always willing to help students outside of class. Highly recommend!
In my 5 years at MTU, Joel is likely the best professor I've ever had, and is certainly the one who cares most about his students. More important than all of the technical material you'll gain from class, are the life lessons he'll tell you. A genuinely good guy, and probably #1 on my list of wanting to grab a beer with after class.
Joel Tuorineimi Understands what it means to be a good professor. Although I only got to know this man over the course of a semester, he will have my respect for a lifetime. He genuinely cares about each and every individual in his class, and wants the absolute best for every student, in the classroom and beyond. In my 5+ years at MTU, he is #1.
