Heavy accent, deep thinker and funny.
He is the best teacher at Skyline and teaches students how to have high standards for themselves. He tells us that we are the future leaders of tomorrow. He is a deep thinker. A wise professor.
Great guy. Smart.
VERY thick accent, but if you pay attention you will learn. Make sure to have a highlighter with you because he will tell you to highlight something and it will be on the test.
PLSC 200, PLSC 210, PLSC 130, PLSC 301. I took all his classes. Good teacher and nice guy and also funny. But he is strict too so dont fool around. Read the text book and make a note of it. Lectures not always about the book. But the tests ARE 100% book. I recomend him.
Come to this class with open mind. Masare is the best professor at skyline. UC Berkeley Ph.D and MA so you are getting top notch. Dont be scared of his accent, just listen and open your mind. He is funny and nice guy. Read the text book. Lecture is his time. Test info in daily reading. A good guy.
Nice guy and good teacher but very hard to understand- softspoken + accent= ?
Good teacher. Accent is really thick and can be a problem. But the class is very easy. Just highlight what he says in the book and its on the test. He goes off on tangents a lot of the time, which is exhausting (espeacially in a night class) but not a hard class at all

awesome teacher
This teacher is nice but he has a very heavy accent. Other than that, he is pretty easy as long as you do the readings. No HW given so you must do well on all of his test to get a passing grade in his class. Recomendation: Do NOT take at night esp if you fall asleep easily or are not a nite person.
heavy accent, funny, smart, and cool....
Good man, intelligent, caring, relatively easy class.. one problem though.. if you have a difficult time understanding teachers with heavy accents, then i would not recommend him for you. It is very difficult to learn while guessing what he is saying.
he has a very heavy accent but a very easy class. if you are good at memorization then take his class, otherwise don't because he only has 4 tests that base on memorization. don't take note, just highlight everything that is read from the book.
Wonderful teacher!!! I love him to pieces he is so great. He has a passion for his classes and knows his stuff.
Higly intelligent, and very well educated, his teaching was so effective I took three of his classes and ended up becoming a Political Science major. Masare means it when he offers to help, he genuinly wants all students to learn & succeed. I'm getting my BA in May of 06 partly bc of this professor, he made me belive in myslef without even trying!
Easy A. definitely recommend taking his class. Remember to bring a highlighter and TAKE NOTES those are the answers to the midterms and finals.
He's passionate about what he's teaching. I have a hard time understanding because of his heavy accent, but he is willing to spend the time to help you understand. Really funny and great guy.
Go to class for notes. Study the notes and you should do well on your tests. There are only 3 and one final. If you pay attention in class, he tells you what you need to know in the book. Everything he lectures and tells you to nake note is on the test. His grading is pretty cool. Heavy accent, but it will be fine after a little while.
Easy class, but very difficult to understand him. Rely on your notes for the information, reading will help you to understand what he is teaching in class. He is picky about attendance and if you talk AT ALL in his class.
hes a very good teacher.helpful and very sweet.his class is too easy to pass...just take notes and thats all in the tests.no homeworks,quizes...
i've taken two polisci classes with dr masare and enjoyed them both. i would take another course with him if i hadn't transfered this semester.
Masare, intelligent, nice, and hes a preacher in a way. He expects excellence from each of his students. He has a heavy accent but dont let that scare you just sit in the front. His lectures are very good and the notes are straight from the book. Tests are usualy 30 multiple choice and 4 short essay questions. He is an easy grader. Take this prof.
He is a nice man, but nearly incoherent. He seems to be mumbling to himself during lectures and tends to repeat himself. If you do the reading it's not that hard to pass the tests. Dr M. seems out of touch with students and oblivious to the yawning, sighing and sleeping in class
this man has never heard of the socratic method. If you enjoy a class that consists of a 100% reading 0 % discussion class then you will like him. the essay portion of his test are based on the principle that his students should memorize by rote every obscure fact and law listed in every chapter. I will NEVER take a course taught by him again!!!!!!
He is very full of himself, and he'll let you see it the first day of class when he shows you his 600 page book and talks about his Berkeley Ph.D. He's extremely anti-religion and will mock it which I think is wrong (though I'm not religious myself). He should use the socratic method he should have learned with his Ph.D. Don't take!
Real easy class. Just read the book and you'll do fine..his tests are way too easy if you read. The thing i have against him is he talks off topic alot about "life" trying to spread his ideas around...kind of lame.
He has a very thick accent, but he's an OK teacher. He is very philosophical, and sometimes not very interesting to listen to.
This teacher carries a very heavy African accent that makes it very difficult to understand. I would understand 20% of the words he is saying. Worst of all, he would speak his own language sometimes to teach the class, so you won't be able to tell whether he is speaking english or his own language.
For some reason throughout the whole semester he emphasises the importance of attendance.Throughout the whole semester all he does is read out of the book, it almost seems as if attending class is pointless because you have to read anyways. All you have to do for class is read and you will be fine...no other work assigned
Incredibly boring, spends all of class reading out of the textbook... if you're lucky. He'd often spend entire class periods talking about "human intelligence" and "the meaning of concentration." I came to school for this? Although he takes attendance, I missed three weeks of class and got an A by reading the book. COMPLETELY predictable tests.
Dr. Masare is great. He makes the class as easy as possible and is always there if you need help. He tells you exactly what to study for the tests too!! He is a very nice man.
he makes the class as easy as possible. the class seemed hard at first, but it's so easy. u know EXACTLY what's on the tests. no homework. every other class is a movie. tests are like 30 mult. choice and 2 essays, and you'll know exactly what your essay questions will be
Dr. Masare is a great teacher. I took him over the summer and he tells you exactly whats going to be on the tests. He goes over everything in the book mainly reading aloud in the class and tells u what to highlight. it could get boring but as long as u highlight everything he mentions in class you'll pass.
DONT TAKE THIS "teacher"! He talks too much about his african tribes Wanajimba or Mambuda, something nobody cares about, instead of teaching. First day of class I was shocked with his teaching methods, he makes students read out of the book, instead of lecturing to them. And his accent is horrible, it was hard to understand his incoherent mumbling.
Easiest class I have ever taken, but very boring lectures.
Really easy class!! just show up to the class and study for the test you'll get an A!
Wow...what an easy class! Classes consist of 1. A movie of the country we're studying 2. Reading specific passages from the book which he's assigned. After 2 countries, you get a test, the questions are from the sections which he's assigned. He's a very nice guy, but his African accent is difficult to understand.
Dr.Masare is very inteligent and knows his stuff. He has a thick accent and sometimes goes off subject. Classes consist of reading from the book. Tests consist of what he tells you to highlight. In the beginning of the semester I had a careless and lazy attitude, but Masare threw out a lot of 2nd chances and practically told us whats on the test.
He's a chill teacher who tries to incorporate information about the world not just the specific subject he teaches. You can tell he really cares about his students. I thought he was awesome, just make sure you do your reading.
Dr. Masare is the most enlightening professor and person I have ever met. He is awesome! The class is a breeze and easy A, you just need to show up for class and take an exam that he pretty much outlines for you and thats it. No homework. -denisse
Mr Masare has a strong accent, but you will get used to it. so dont worry. He's a very nice person, always willing to help his student. and he will go over everything in the test. if u take notes and read the book, u will be fine. good teacher, easy class. strongly commend.
i want to sleep in his class but just make notes and the just remember all the paragraphs u are reading.. zzzzzz hes cool tho
This teacher is pointless. He talks about abstract ideas and expects you to understand them. He has the students just read out of the textbook, and how is that teaching? The only positive about the class is lack of homework, but I have no idea how he expects anyone to learn without being able to practice application.
His accent is very thick and can be a problem for non-native speakers. Most of his class consists of having students read from the textbook. If you mark these sections and take notes on what he writes on the board you will know exactly what to study for tests. I found this class mind-numbing but fairly easy if you attend.
A great teacher, who cares in teaching his students, can be a little absent minded but he means well. If you actually do the reading and study for the tests, you can get an (A) in his class.
EXTREMELY NICE PERSON. VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE, COMPETENT AND KIND.
A poor excuse for a teacher. His classes themselves are a complete joke. There is no structure whatsoever to his lectures, which consist of students reading out of the book for the most part, and the occasional life lesson or little haiku that falls on deaf ears. I was one of his best students, and he didn't even know my name by semester's end.
Heavy, heavy accent. A little heavy on the "word analysis" with which he uses to announce his pirmarily-liberal ideologies.....Otherwise, easy in the sense that he actually tells you what is going to be on the tests, and hard in teh sense that his accent is heavy. Otherwise, he is a nice guy. not necesary to take the class, but take it if you want.
He is a very nice man and is extremely helpful; however, it is hard to understand his heavy African accent. The class is kind of taught like a high school freshman reading class since every student takes turns reading through the book each day. Boring? Yes. Easy? YEEEES!
This class is WAAAAAY TOO EASY, if you read the book and come to class because he pretty much tells you EVERYTHING that is going to be on the tests.
very easy to pass. He's kind and patient. must bring your book every day, all you do is read the book during class. No classwork, no homework, he just calls on students to read aloud so pay attention. His test are kind of hard if you don't pay attention. otherwise it's very easy to pass. he has a thick accent that can be hard to understand at times
Attend class because u got 10 extra points on exams and 5 extra points on his exams and study the highlighted passages of the book passages u read during lecture. If u cant get an A in this class then u r just dumb
This class is VERY easy. If you read the book and come to class, you should no doubt get an A. A majority of the class has A's so it should be easy for you. Plus, yeah he does have a thick accent but its not THAT bad. Ive heard worse from other instructors. Also, pay attention when youre in class, he does get irriated if you tune out.
Great Professor. Really knows a lot about the subject and the world in general. Learned a lot in the class. Show up and read and pay attention. He tells you whats going to be on tests and is very helpful. Great Professor take this class
VERY heavy accent. Most boring class ever, but I have to admit, it was pretty easy. I pretty much did nothing in class and crammed like crazy the day before. Got an A. One thing that really annoyed me is that he kept talking about morals, race, etc. Totally off subject and a bit annoying because he rambles. 27 A's in the class i took. 2 F's
No quizzes, projects, homework. All we do in class is read the textbook out loud. Literally. No discussion, either. Very simple set up. Study the sections of the chapter you read out loud as those paragraphs will be test questions. Test are MC + Short answer. Easy A if you do all that.
very nice teacher, just pay attention and study provided and it will be a breeze. Extra credit given for perfect attendance and for his accent haha!
Don't worry if you're on WL for this class, he accepts all students. Perfect attendance = +10 pts on midterms. No homework. Textbook is A MUST. Very helpful and nice. Definitely recommended.
BORING LECTURES. Deep accent and is hard to understand at times. Though I received a good grade in the class I would not recommend this teacher to others.
Good teacher but tends to go off topic. You really have to re-read the text in order to do well in this class.
VERY nice easy going teacher. lectures are boring but if you come to class highlight what you read out aloud you should get an A.
The most boring class I have ever had! I can't understand what he's saying because of his strong accent. So, I basically just show up in class without paying any attention. I have to read the textbook by myself in order to get good grade. Plus, I don't think we can learn anything from him at all! he is the poorest teacher I have had so far.
He uses the book a lot. You will highlight passages and have study guides. He only tests you on stuff he talks about in class. He is very fair and is a good professor. He might be a bit boring and have a strong accent, but you will learn a lot. Tests are straight-forward and not too hard. He's really nice.
Got an [A] in his class. Super easy exams. No cumulative final. As long as highlight what parts of the book we read and go home, memorize them before the exam, all the information he tells us is what he puts on his exam. Offers +5 pts on exams because of his thick accent and +10 points for perfect attendance. GUARANTEED A
Masare is the toughest teacher in the universe to understand. You cannot focus on what he's saying for more than a few minutes. He starts to ramble, and go off on a tangent, and that's when you realize that you're literally wasting your time and money. Save yourself the pain, sign up for something else.
Just go to class and you'll be fine. He does have an accent which can make it hard to understand his lectures at times but his sense of humor more than makes up for it. He does a review before every exam which is so helpful. I would definitely take another one of his classes.
So this is a really easy teacher!!! all you have to do is go to class, take notes ad thetest comes from the notes you take! so as long as you study youll get a easy A!
Dr.Masare is extremely intelligent!Earned a bachelor& two PhD degrees at UC Berkeley!also speak 6 different languages!!!All you do in class is read certain paragraphs in the book.Study the paragraphs&key terms he went over during lecture&you should pass!I can't understand how people can fail this class. He tells interesting&funny stories.TAKE HIM!
Dr.Masare is a character. He loves to talk about the planet he comes from.Great class no hw,4 tests, and all we do is read paragraphs in the book aloud in class. He gives out 10 ec pts on exams for attendence and 5 ec pts for his accent cause of the planet he comes from.
Overall, the class was ok but it was extremely boring because all we did was read off the book but his exams were extremely easy. And I actually learned something new. I would recommend him because it is an easy A but bring something to class to entertain yourself.
Has an acccent! But a great teacher and a Very easy A class (:
Although he has an accent that some people may find hard to understand, he compensates for it by giving extra points on his test! HIGHLY recommend him! Textbook required, but no homework at all.
If you put in the slightest effort you WILL get an A in the class. If you want to learn anything, besides the fact that 'Professor' Masare can't teach, do not take him. Everyday, he goes through the roll-sheet, name by name, and makes every student read a paragraph. That's it. No discussion, no lecture, nothing...worst class I've ever taken.
Two words: EASY A. All you basically have to do is underline what you read and keep it in your head. There's 4 tests and no homework. He preaches more than he teaches. He's very passionate about helping young people out, but he can be confusing at times. Overall, he's a preacher not a teacher. Take him if you want an easy A; super boring though.
Yes this class does tend to get a bit dry from time to time, but for general ED this is pretty good. He is super nice, but his accent is hard to understand at times, however he tells you exactly what paragraphs to read and all the questions on the test are exactly on the stuff he point out in class. Overall pretty easy and educating.
Only easy bc the information needed for the tests are somewhere in the text book, & he tells you exactly which paragraphs to read. Very helpful if you reach out to him (e-mails, after class, office hours, etc.). Has a very strong accent & speaks quietly so sit in front. Text books required.
He's nice. I sometimes end up nodding off in his class but he doesn't say anything. He's an old fashioned teacher so it's all reading from the book each day. He doesn't discuss the topics that well or goes off topic. It helps that he points out what to read so you don't need to go to class if you have a friend who writes down which paragraphs.
This class is EXTREMELY boring. I would suggest not taking this class during the summer because it is two hours and you can barely understand him. He tells you which paragraphs to read and what will be on the test.He gives 10 points extra credit for having perfect attendance, and 5 for his accent, but attendance isn't mandatory.
Book use is mandatory because he tells you which paragraphs in the book to study for exams. Sit in the front because he has a strong accent, but gives you 5 extra point each exam for that reason. Attendance isn't mandatory, but gives you 10 points for good attendance each exam. Passed with a B, but could have easily got an A. Recommend!
The extra points for attendance saved my ARSE! You get too much to ditch class! He picks like 2 paragraphs from every chapter on a page. You note which ones and study those. Overall pretty easy and he is extremely generous. He is willing to admit his mistakes and he's very humble. Class might be boring, but 99% of political science classes are.
He is a very nice teacher. I took it in the summer. You don't do too much in the class, you just read and take note of the important paragraphs, it's super easy. Just study those paragraphs. Class gets boring but you SHOULD attend he gives EXTRA CREDIT.
His exams are easy to get an A on if you study all the paragraphs we read aloud in class. ALL the answers to the multiple choice questions/essay portion are in the paragraphs he tells us to highlight in the book. He also gives you +10 points on exams for his accent and perfect attendance. Mr.Masare is really sweet! Highly recommend his class!
You need to have the book, if you don't its impossible to pass the class. All you do his highlight the pages he tells you. Very nice person, however he preaches more than he teaches. Doesn't give homework, you should be able to get an A with very minimal effort. Go to the class for extra credit on the exam!
I took him last semester and he seemed easier. This semester, he didnt seem very helpful. Attendance and book is mandatory. I fell asleep a couple of times due to it being so early. Just study what he goes over! No hw or papers.
If you want an easy A, take this class. All you have to do is show up and read the textbook, and Professor Masare will even tell you which paragraphs to study. If you want a class which will inspire your interest in government, go somewhere else. He is the most pedantic professor I have every had, and does not tolerate interruptions well.
Forget his accent, he is a genuine guy, very understanding, accommodating to your personal life if you need an absence, doesn't talk about test info you got to read that and study yourself, not so easy A, he gives useful info but his class is easy but not his tests, you must pay attention and study, I recommend him
Over all. He is a good teacher if you study you should get an A.
I can admit this is probably a really easy class, everything is totally out of the textbook and he tells you which sections to study for tests. I had to withdraw however, because I absolutely cannot understand what he says and it's tortuous being in that class for three hours. I wouldn't recommend
1st day of class I enjoyed his introduction about being from a different planet:) but what I enjoyed most about Dr. Masare is he always their to help everyone of his dear students to succeed in his class. Take him!!
Dr. Masare is very inspirational. He made a positive impact on my life. I received two A's in two different Political Science classes. I almost considered changing my major to get into Political Science. He shared stories of his life growing up in Tanzania, compared to our lives, he endured a lot to get to where he is. That in itself challenged me.
Dr. Masare is a great teacher. His accent isn't completely incoherent but it helps if you sit in the front. Show up every day 15 points extra credit on each test. I love talking about government. We read aloud a lot in class and he gives you the page numbers to study for the test. He's a very wise and virtuous man.
Gives extra credit on exams if you have perfect attendance. Some of the videos he showed were old but sometimes interesting. The book is crystal clear, I rented it for cheap. If you're thinking of dropping this class because it seems hard , don't. Just read the paragraphs from the study guide and you'll be good
Professor Masare is subtle and soft-spoken and if I had not sat in the front of his class I might have had some trouble following him. That said, he teaches his subject very well. He had to work hard for his own education, and he encourages his students to take their own education very seriously. Tells you which paragraphs to study for test.
Go to class everyday, take notes, pay attention, study the study guide should easily pass with at least a B maybe an A if you remember some details for the Essay Questions. He is a good professor but shares his political views too often, and sometimes I felt offended because everyones situation is different for why they receive govt assistance.
It's hard to understand his accent, his lectures are pretty boring. Thankfully I had a good professor the previous semester who gave me enough information to pass this class. Read the text and you'll be fine. But seriously, in class, no one can understand him and when you look around, everyone's either sleeping or doing something not class-related.
I know he isn't the most exciting lecturer, but he's an easy A! He gives extra points on tests if you attend class, which can almost bump a whole letter grade up. Just attend class to get the points--you don't even have to pay attention. Lots of people are either dozing off, on their devices, or doing other work.
His thick African accent makes it extremely difficult to understand what he's saying. However, he tells you what to study and as long as you read the text, the test is easy. On the document he sends you with everything to study for, pay attention to the bullets w "note" on it. Those will be your essay questions.
He talks about his own beliefs and childhood. He gives you paper on what we cover in class and we go over them through the textbook. however most of the stuff we cover does not really tell you what you need to pass the test even though he said it is because i studied and they were just not there except few questions. Dont take him.
Professor Masare is very old and still giving wonderful lectures. My father took the course many years ago and I took it and next time around, if another course I need to take is offered by Masare, I will surely be taking it. Clear-cut lectures, inspirational stories, everything that is on the test is stated in lectures, & helpful if you need it.
Prof. Masare preached more than he teached. For example, in the two hour class we had together- he spent one hour talking about astrology and why we have four seasons (not sure what this has to do with pol-sci, but okay). It's a really easy A though-just read in depth the paragraphs he puts in the study guide. He also gives extra points on tests.
He is confusing me sometimes, and those short essay questions are difficult for bad memory people. This class requires remembering details in the text book.
Dr. Masare's class is very straightforward: memorize the study guides and never miss a class. He is a very kind professor who means well, but his lectures are boring. He gives 10 extra points on each exam for his accent and an additional 5 extra points for having perfect attendance. Only 4 exams total the semester. No homework.
So boring. So dreadfully boring. If you gotta take this class, be sure to sit in the very front center otherwise you won't be hearing a word. I normally zone out and take notes from the book and the tests are easy enough that thats all you need to get an A in the class. Even as a political science major, i found this professor to be unbearable.
Dr. Masare demonstrates exemplary dedication to his job. Yes, the other student is right about him talking about other things but if you will focus to what he is teaching, the students will receive so much more than just knowing the subject. He want his beloved students to succeed, he gives so much inspiration and encouragement. Best Prof Ever!
Worst teacher I've ever had. Difficult to understand, rambles about irrelevant personal views at every chance he can and rarely talks about what will be on the test. You would understand the material just as well if you just read the book and never attended class. I honestly don't know how this man is teaching college. Not a hard class, but BORING
I took his class last fall, Amazing teacher! Very kind and helpful, if your falling behind, GO TALK TO HIM! He will help you. One of the top 5 teachers I've had, very intelligent.
DR. Masare has a strong accent that makes it hard to understand him but he tells you exactly which things are important in the book and they will be in the Midterm/Final. 3 Midterms split in 2 class session 1.30 Multiple-choice questions and 2.4 Essay questions. 10 extra points on Midterm/Final for 100% attendance. See him if struggle, very helpful
Very lecture heavy. People may think it's boring but he's so hilarious if you actually listen. He always shares life lessons and has a really great mindset. Sit close cuz he has an accent/ soft voice. Come to class and participate because if you don't do well on tests he'll be more understanding since he doesn't give any hw. Study guide is MUST
Dr. Masare is truly cares about his students! His lectures can get a little boring but he takes you attendance into consideration when it comes to grades. He speaks a lot about the importance of education, succeeding and individualism. Some of his lectures were really inspiring and helpful. I highly recommend going to office hours!
Professor Masare is frankly an okay professor. He lectures basically the entire class and many times it is an extremely dull lecture. He is very test and quiz heavy when calculating your grade, but his test and quizzes do come directly from the book. Professor Masare is a very caring man for his students, but overall not the greatest professor.
monotone voice. hard to hear even in front. Would take again. Well respected. Humble roots. Kind. Very Caring. Tanzanian Cowboy.
His accent is very thick so its hard to understand him. Their is no homework all you are graded on are 4 tests-not cumulative and he gives you a study guide every exam that you just memorize and work on and you'll get an easy A for sure. If your looking for an easy PLSC class then this is the class for you!
Professor Masare's class was not awful! His class wasn't meant to be difficult, but he also cares about his students a lot. His rating for the quality should've been around 4.0 or over. He gave specific examples for his students with a study guide. It's easy to pay attention as he lectures very well as long you get an A for this class.
Professor Masare is by far the best teacher I've had at skyline. He is very understanding. He gives no homework and 4 exams with study guides. Study the study guides and you'll pass the exams. 3-4 essay questions that are on the study guide and multiple choice as well. Show up to class and you'll have an A. His accent is adorable, great professor!
I loved that guy who speaks gibberish while he is telling his stories during class.
Masarae is a very caring professor. He grades you based off of four total exams. The class is rather easy, but he is very difficult to understand. Most of his lectures are just him talking about who knows what.
Great Pass, come to class, you will pass, read the text book, its really straight forward, tells great stories.
honestly, this guy is super easy. your grade is based on four exams. its heavily based on the textbook so make sure you read that. i passed the class with an A- and almost never showed up to class. good teacher, easy class, hes just really boring. his accent is very thick too which can make him hard to understand. trust bruh
Professor Masare is the easiest professor I have ever had so far. He cares about his students and makes all the question la very lax so no one fails his class. You can call call him the Tanzanian cowboy(you will know why). Other than that, he grades you only based on 4 exams and he gives 5 extra credits on every exams if you attend his class always
Horrible, i enjoy political science, and I thought every poli sci class would be engaging and try to be as impartial about different ideologies as a professor should be. There was no point in engaging in this class as he would not entertain any ideology that is not his. You definitely have to read the book since you wont learn anything in class
Wonderful professor! Very caring. Great lectures and discussions. Always took the time to help me after class or in office hours.
Masare is such a gem! Your grade is based entirely off of 4 exams consisting of a multiple choice and short answer component, which aren't bad at all. He provides an extensive learning objectives (with pg numbers included) to help base your study guides on, which are allowed on the exams. Very charismatic and understanding guy.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic starting in March 2020, had to adapt to Zoom and managed to get a B- overall grade. He is a little boring to hear when it comes to the lecture, but no homework is given.
