Professor Woodward is a Terrific Instructor. The lectures are entertaing - gives many extra credit activities. Has study guides on blackboard to help with the 3 tests and the final exam. There is one main writing assignment that is 25% of your grade. Ample opportunities to improve your grade. Highly recommended!!
This is one of the best instructors I've ever had at this college. He is helpful and very very knowledgable. I would recommend him to any thinking individual who is confident in learning something about themself and their world.
This professor is knowledgeable in his field and quite entertaining. There is a paper, in-class quizzes that you do need to study hard for, and some other smaller assignments. Very enjoyable to listen to, though he does show a lot of classic nude paintings/sculpture. Highly recommend, would take him again. Just pay attention and take notes!
Professor Woodward was a good professor. He was pretty knowledgable and would also let you correct him when you have more knowledge. A good professor.
He's an interesting guy. Kind of strange, but his strangeness definitely made the class more interesting. He's really funny, but the material itself wasn't very interesting to me. I would recommend him especially because he's very helpful, if you ask for help, he will help you.
Professor Woodward is a great instructor! He is funny and is very helpful. Tests are not too hard, and he gives a study guide that is so helpful. I would definitely reccommend him for Humanities. Favorite professor so far!
I read this website prior to signing up for his class...very disappointed. Class was very boring and nothing was interesting about it. He hardly explained what to write about with the papers that were assigned. I feel as if everything was "busy work" because nothing was learned from it. Powerpoints presented were pointless, never on any tests.
One of my favorite teachers. He is very funny and keeps the lectures interesting. Very laid back and his due-dates for assignments are not very strict. Show up to class and the exams are relatively easy. He's relatively young so he's pretty relatable for younger students. A very laid back and interesting class to take if you need some HUM credits
My favorite professor so far! He makes class interesting and fun. He's very laid back. He provides study guides which are super helpful. He tells you everything that'll be on the exams. Highly recommend him!
I sat next to the other person who commented on this class. Let's just say... not the brightest bulb in the bunch. I had to help them through most everything. They never even read the syllabus! Dr. Woodward was great. If you have half a brain, you should take him. If you are a slacker or just plain stupid then avoid him.
Instructor does not make himself clear as to what is expected of you. Does not respond to emails, and does not grade and return work in a timely manner. Prior to enrolling in this class I saw how highly rated he was only to be very disappointed. Save yourself the time and money and DO NOT take his class.
He is a very understanding, lenient professor. If you have any problem come up, just talk to him and he will help you as much as possible. He is very flexible with his due dates, and the tests are easy IF you study. He keeps things entertaining and he looks like Johny Depp... so that helps.
If this professor were any hotter he would have melted the walls! The class is so entertaining its not like learning at all. He gives pretty easy tests with very appropriate study guides. TOO EASY!
This teacher is okay. He puts a movie on and then leaves class and comes back when its over. Expect a few papers, and if you don't speak the film lingo expect to fail them also. The class was easy, show up and watch a movie, talk about it and go home. But if he doesn't like you, your doomed on the papers. Goodluck!
Great professor. Examines were a bit difficult, unless you pay attention and read the book. Discussion of films was interesting, though some few people did all of the talking. Basically no lectures. He was also very helpful. I recommend him.
Prof Woodward is a very cool guy. He is young and he is very relatable with us college kids. His lectures are very clear. I took both his film class and his humanities class. He is super intelligent. Makes class fun and interesting. The only thing that irks me is that he we have 6 weeks left of the semester and not one grade is put in online
two essays and four tests are pretty much the only things graded for the class. He is a very interesting guys that knows a lot about what he teaches. However, class overall is pretty boring because its a 100% lecture class. Each and everyday he has art to show you and talks about them may ask a few questions then class is over.
Very Cute! speaks the language of the course some times. He knows too much but Im willing to listen. If you engage in the conversation it can be really fun. If you dont say nothing then you will be bored too
3exams,2papers,6discussions on BB, quizzes in class are in groups may have one quiz on BB. Study guides are a lot harder than the actual exam, usually most of it isnt on exam. Really have to do your own research to figure out the exam. Had to study my butt off for exams. Lecture based, lots of pics and him just explaining. Always late in starting.
very helpful and makes class interesting
This online course was tough, no doubt. There was a lot of reading. However, the quizzes were clear and based on the book, so no problem. He grades tough, but I know I learned a lot. More than just "log in and pass."
I don't know how this guy got rated so high. I took the class online and he is not clear of what is expected of you and is so slow at grading that you don't even realize your doing something wrong until 3/4 through the semester when he finally grades something you did in week 2. I don't recommend him.
He's a really great teacher and knows his stuff. He doesn't really explain what he wants in his essays but doesn't grade hard at all! He's a cutie and I loved his class. Don't procrastinate. He is really flexible on his dead lines so you may be tempted to, but don't there's a lot of essays!! If you keep on top of your work you can get an easy A!!!
Yes, it was a pretty tough class. There was a lot of reading and he grades fair (meaning, not just an 'A' for effort). I did well on essays, but missed some of the contemplation questions b/c I was a bit lazy. He provided good feedback that really helped.
Lots of reading. But the exams and quizzes come straight out of the textbook. The questions you have to answer are tough and make you think, but he grades easy. Lots of writing, too. Great course, though. I actually learned something.
Fun guy but I would never take him again. The study guides don't have much to do with the test and they're hard to find the answers to. He's great with the subject but you wont know if you passed the class till the last week. Takes at-least a month to grade essays and tests, and doesn't give feedback - come on.
Takes majority of the semester to grade things from the very beginning of the course. You never get your papers back even though he says he'll "bring them next time." Aside from that, he's very nice, definitely easy to look at, and very intimate about the subject of humanities. Also, the study guide doesn't reflect the exam until the third one.
Awesome. Best professor, period.
Simply amazing. Always there for you, though sometimes late to class!
A breeze. And I learned a lot. Lots of reading, but it's easy stuff.
Excellent. Felt like a college class. Lots of reading and writing. But very interesting. I felt like a learned something.
This man is the best! He explains so much and is really fair with his students. if you show up to class ands try then he is willing to help and give you really good feed back. I love this teacher. taking him again.
Do yourself a favor and find a different professor. He takes an absurdly long time to grade assignments, and his lecture is unclear and all over the place. The syllabus does little more than tell you how he grades. Don't get me wrong, though, he's a nice guy and his lectures *can* be fun.
Coffee.. you will need it to stay awake during the lectures. He has study guides for the quiz but doesn't go over them in class. Ask questions on the study guide if you want the correct answer. Lots of reading to do but never really used the textbook. It a tough class. Take online if you can.
College level course. Took a 16 week online course and it was not an easy A by any means but the topic is interesting and the discussion topics are robust and fascinating. You will watch 12 - 15 movies and each has a 10 point quiz. Watch out for trick questions. 2 papers and 3 exams. ALL are challenging. Movie selections are great.
Def college level course. Lots of reading. But I feel like I actually learned something. Not the sit-in-class-like-a-potato course.
This professor is amazing as far as lectures go, but you really have to be super on top of things to pass the course or assignments will slip right past you. He is very flexible with his assignments. Also, there are only participation, exams/quizzes, and extra credit, so MAKE SURE YOU READ because there are no homework grades to cushion your fall.
Lots of reading. And I mean LOTS. Come on dude. Some of us have lives.
Awesome awesome awesome. Best class I've ever taken. Serious college stuff. And he is very very helpful and understanding if you miss assignments. Up to a point. haha.
I took his humanities class and it was pretty interesting. He makes the class fun and keeps the information simple and to the point. He was very helpful and always answered any questions. Just take notes, ask questions and you'll be fine.
Super chill guy, he grades easy and gives great feedback on papers, he also is extremely lax when it comes to deadlines, he ends up grading have of the assignments the last week of the semester. All Around great course if you're a film nerd.
Overall great teacher! Takes a while to grade assignments but his lectures are very informative and interesting. I learned a lot and would take him again. Don't take his class if you are not willing to do a substantial amount of reading and writing.
Professor Woodward is a good professor, but not a great one. He takes forever to grade papers. You will have 1 midterm and 1 final, and a lot of quizzes. The quizzes, midterm and final are all short response, but if you put in the effort you are fine. Be prepared to read but If you go to class he pretty much tells you the answers to the quizzes
Professor Woodward is awesome! His lectures are rich with detail and information that will make anyone love history. His grading is very fair, and I did not have to study more or less than any other class I have taken. It is not a walk in the park however, so make sure you are organized and are not behind in the notes or readings.
This class is terribly boring, especially if it's 2 hours plus, however, he is the EASIEST grader. You barely have to study to pass the tests, he's extremely lenient, I don't know if he was just lazy when it came to his grading or what but I did not study, I barely tried on the two papers he assigned and I ended up with an A. I would take him again
Professor Woodward is extremely passionate about humanities and tries to communicate that to his students. Lectures can seem long due to the amount of detail and depth he goes in to in his powerpoints, however they are pertinent to the testing material and will aid you in that aspect. Tests are online. Significant amount of writing.
Good class, good professor. This is not a course that you will just sail through, however. Plenty of work and topics are in depth. If you're willing to put in the time and effort, it's a very rewarding and informative experience. Films are discussed from an analytical and artistic standpoint. Selection of movies is great. Highly recommended.
LOTS of reading. We read some Roman poet called Ovid. Interesting when he explained it. We read four long works with lots and lots of discussion and analysis. Felt like I knew more about everything when I walked out of class. Exams were easy. Essays he graded tough. Good feedback though.
This class will expand your literary horizons, and is a good General Education course to take. I got an A, and I worked for it. This is not a "breeze class" by any means, but if you put some effort into the materials and lessons you will learn a lot and do well.
The prof. is passionate about film making and goes very in depth. Grades very easily as well. The hardest part about the class is his movie selection. If you are not a fan of black and white movies from the 1920's to 1960's(many of them foreign) you will have trouble with the assignments as I fell asleep nearly every movie we watched.
He is a nice professor and very passionate about humanities but I am not so I had a tough time. A lot of quizzes that were difficult to answer because I had to analyze old English but we get to finish them at home. If you dont like humanities then dont take him because his lectures are going to be boring, find someone easier.
Really good professor, very lenient with a lot of things including missed classes and "late" work. There is a lot of reading, like 5 or 6 quizzes, 3 exams and a research paper due at the end of the semester. His lectures were very insightful, and I thought he was pretty funny with his sarcasm and jokes. Wonderful man and wonderful professor.
Easy grader, but sometimes he gives a low grade for no reason and gives a really dumb excuse for doing so. For example, on my first essay I got 97% on my second essay I got 98% then on my third essay he gave me 70%? Makes no sense. Also, we did not use all of the books, which I paid for and cannot get my money back!!! he said we had to have them!
one of the greatest ! I loved his class
Awesome. Best prof at the place. Like real college.
This was an online class and I actually learned stuff. Not for the weak, though. Lots of reading and he's there to help when you need him. Responds right away to email. Even when I sent it at 11pm.
Rough. Lots of reading. But this is why I came to college. I felt as though he respected me as a student.
Too much. had to write like 4 essays. way too much for me. this isn't a real college.
4 essays in 7 weeks?? Should make it easier for the short semester... Good feedback and answered emails right away though.
Had students by 5 books!! And we had to by them. I emailed him and said i would have to drop the class because $50 for books is too much. He said to drop. You shouldnt have to by books to go to colege
Very good professor. He responded right away when I had questions. Loved the reading. Felt like a real college class. Grades easy, too.
I would not take him again, especially for a 7-week course, because he will assign you 4 essays, each essay has 1500 words. On top of the top that you have other quizzes that can be only taken once. If you fail nothing he will do about it. Didn't respond to emails quickly. For a 7-week course, too many essays shouldn't be assigned. Avoid him.
Really excellent class. But also very hard. But any 7 week course should be hard. Lots and lots of reading for 7 weeks. And lots of writing, too. But no silly discussion boards. Just lit reviews, basically. I liked the clear way he told us what to write for the essays.
We used all of the required texts but only had to read portions of them. All the texts helped to supply evidence to the theories and notions behind what he was teaching. Very captivating lectures & I walked away feeling like I actually learned some things. This class really helped me step up my essay game & he always gave constructive feedback
Pros: Easy grader, gives good feedback, Many of the book's essays are online (pdf). Cons: Many of the films we watched have questionable content. He told us to get one book (8th edition), but he took lectures from two books (6th and 8th edition). (That took me a while to figure out). Basically, if you're ok with essays and weird films you're ok.
I'm gone to put yall on game so you gonna have about 3 essays and an annotated bibliography also, you will need 7 textbooks and you will have quizzes as well. the work is easy, just have a lot of reading if you love old ancient history so it shouldn't be a problem but other than that he is an amazing teacher and he works with you.
Great teacher but he has a lot of papers to write if you do his 7 week class
Get ready to drop money on 6+ books. Then, read a book every week. Also, prepare to write four, 1,500-2,000 word essays. Ton of reading and even more writing!
I loved this class because of this professor. It is really dry reading but he went over everything and made discussions actually fun and interesting.
lots of writing for this class. youll buy 5-6 books for this class but you'll end up using them all. the research essay is a killer at the end of the course but the other essay are pretty easy. accepts late work for everything except the weekly reflection. just do the work when its due and its a pretty easy class.
He gives a lot of quizzes on the readings and weekly reflections and a couple of discussions. 2 pretty long papers at 1.5k words and a massive research paper at 2.5k words. Somehow I escaped with an A doing a third of the quizzes and 2/8 reflections and 2/4 discussions. Just do all the papers because he is an easy grader and you should pass.
If you enjoy lots of reading and writing as well as ancient greek stories like Odysseus this class will be a fairly average difficulty for you. If you are looking for minimal work, do not enjoy reading, and strongly dislike writing, avoid this class at all costs- the professor is respectful and lenient, but it's not light work
I took this class online. He wasnt always super clear about instructions but he was very nice and a good teacher. Get ready to buy several books, we bought 5 but theyre all small and cheap. Reading was the annoying part.
Dr. Woodward's HUM2020 class is easy but it is a TON of work! Between all the reading and writing it is the heaviest course load, I have ever seen or heard of let alone taken. The reading was a lot of older texts like Plato and Ovid so some people had a hard time understanding what the text was saying. But the individual assignments were not hard.
Amazing teacher I would give him a 10/10 both classes I have taken with him, are super easy and really enjoyable to be taught by him because he makes them interesting. You have to watch a lot of movies and there's three exams and two papers. The papers are probably the hardest but the exams and quizzes are simple enough and pretty easy.
He's an amazing teacher, besides the fact that he gives out a lot of essays and quizzes. I'm not into greek mythology like that but if you are he's the perfect teacher for you. You're gonna buy like 6 books for him and barely read them during the semester. Can't forget about how he's one of the nicest people I've ever met. Responds to emails quicky
Obviously enthusiastic about his topic, and wants students to show comprehension. Lots of essays, group projects, and discussion boards. Slow responses to emails (multi-day waits.) Besides how much homework there was, the topic was really wonderful and I'd take the class again just to dive deeper into the subject.
My frustration with Prof. Woodward is that he did not grade assignments timely at all. How can we know where to improve if he does not grade assignments throughout the course and provide feedback especially in an online course? When the class ended and the course was no longer accessible, 1/3 of my assignments were not graded.
I enjoyed this class and this professor so much! Fun guy who was very laid back. Took time to get things graded, but always answered back whenever I emailed him. Highly recommend!
Easy grader, clear feedback, allows you to redo papers, just ask. Answers emails very promptly day or night. He works with you, cares about his students. He will spend time with you to help you if he can. He is funny. A lot of reading 6 books, handouts you have to read and a few easy group projects. Easiest A I have ever gotten.
Professor Woodward is one of my favorite professors on the campus at the time of me writing. He's smart, funny, and is very understanding with students. Very philosophical, too, he helps nurture student's own views rather than recite information or ideas.
Prof. Woodward is great. Just be ready to read, a lot. Your spare time is now consumed being a philosopher. I had to get 6 books for this class. Lots of cushion for assignments and quizzes are done in groups during class. Class room is a team-oriented environment. He wants you to do the work and see how you may answer the questions, and dive deep.
If you pick it for Topics it is really weird like he talks about Pedifial relationships and everything I dont know the subject gets pretty weird and Lottttsssss of writing so be prepared that little all it is reading weird stories and writing a lot.
Professor Woodward is a great professor. His class is mainly PowerPoint focused and discussing what you read at home. He grades fairly and he loves to talk which is awesome. HUM 2020 sexuality in Western culture
Professor Woodward is awesome. His class is mainly powerpoint and lectures are based off the novels. Super chill person and class
Overall a very chill Professor and great person, but that's what makes him so hard to rate. As a person, 5 stars easily. As a Professor however, different story. He gives a LOT of reading and writing with ridiculous word counts, but he's extremely lenient with his late work policy, essentially any late work is accepted.
He gives a somewhat fair amount of work I guess for a 7 week, but it's way too much writing & reading which makes it impossible to care about the uninteresting text. Also, his lectures were probably the worst I had at Fscj with only 3/7 weeks being actually useful. His grading is super slow, + ~100$ in books. Cool professor, awful class.
The student class started with 20+ students, ended with 8. The professor assigned many poems, but was one-sided in analysis, not open to diverse interpretation. Not a critical thinker. Not open source for materials, you have to buy all the books. Graded slowly without specific criteria. Would not recommend.
Professor Woodward is an amazing professor however he can be challenging at times so you need to read his textbook and put all the work in with his essays and assignments but what makes Professor Woodward great is his in depth lectures about film and great enthusiasm about film and how film was made highly recommended!
Makes you handwrite the 1000-word summaries and upload as a PDF instead of just typing them out. (Redundant, waste of valuable time). Packback Discussions every week and two essays. He will pick apart your essays. Save yourself some time and avoid this high-school level crapshoot. Made an A, but the class was annoying.
Overall great class. Professor has clear grading criteria. This is one class where reading is a must and had to hand write 1000-word paper every week for graded assignment. Easy class if you manage your time to complete every week. As long as you read chapters, quizzes are easy to pass.
