Liscano is very good looking, young, and relates to the college crowd very well. He is extremely intelligent and well qualified to teach in his field. He makes you think, and prompts political debates about controversial issues. He is so good looking!
Funny and really intelligent. Good lextures and not boring. easy B, study in groups and you will do fine.
Super cool guy and really fun class.
Cool guy, realizes that the JC is not at par with a four year institution. If you pay attention at all it is easy to get an A. For a Napa JC class it is some what difficult, but if you passed high school Government you should do fine.

I'm not all that Politically inclined, so naturally the class is difficult for me. He tries to make clear everything that needs to be known for tests and makes sure if you have questions to ask them. Good guy, good teacher... A+ Liscano!
Liscano is a great teacher, his teaching method is such that u cant resist but getting involved. P.S he is soo HOT!
The teacher is very informative and just by attending the lectures and reading the text you can give a easy B. Class is a lot of fun and there is a lot of debates going on! P.S. He is sooo HOT!!!
Mr.Liscano, is the best teacher i ever had. He makes classes fun and interesting. He is one of the reasons why i miss NVC so much. He prepared me well for Davis and it was such an honor to have someone that intellegent teach me. Ohh and he is so hott. i mean very hott. yum...
I had Liscano for Comparative Politics, and he was overall a pretty good teacher. He is a bit more challenging than the other poli sci teachers, Donohoe, for example, and I only recommend him if poli sci is your major or you have a very strong interest in it.
Good looking and easy to follow
Mr. Liscano I'd say is a man with a great mind with great looks. He's someone that you can talk with for hours on any subject that comes across. His class is very enjoyable and easy to comprehend. Overall, a great teacher in Political Science. he's a one of a kind.
great teacher, explains material throughly.I wish the tests were easier tho.
He explains things very well, and likes to play the devil's advocate to stimulate your thinking. He is way too good for a JC, you definitely get your money's worth.
The best teacher I have ever had.
International Relations is great!
International Relations is great! Plus is he is good looking, not that it should or anything.
perhaps one of my best friends
He's a very good teacher and his lectures were always interesting. Although I failed his class (because I was distracted by how fine he is), he was an excellent teacher.
Although I failed his class because I was too busy staring at him, he was a very good teacher and actually made politics interesting. And he's hot.
Great teacher with tons of knowledge. He really makes you think about things.
HOTTIE!!!!!!!!!!He is a good teacher and nice to look at during class so it makes it easier to pay attention!!

smart, enjoys teaching, insightful and damn it.........he's good looking, a plus.
Gorgeous. That man has some great knowledge.

He's a great teacher! I loved his class...he brings a different view to every side of an issue! A great teacher!
Great teacher with a very socratic method of teaching. He helps you explore your own opinions and beliefs and a lot of different issues.
he's gorgeous. i don't kow if i'd be able to conentrate in his class.
he will change your world view...and teach you a lot.
he's such a meanie...sometime he's kool but he can be very bias
he's a hottie. the tests are hard. know everything word for word and you'll pass the class. danm, does he know his****e!
He's a ridiculously smart man, and he knows his stuff, but he can be a total ****. Not only does he plays favorites, but he takes it to the next level by seemingly hating other people in the class. Truly bizarre.
I've had Liscano for Political Science 120, 121, 130. I think he is one of the most informative professors I have ever encountered. He's very clear in his information. His tests are based on his lectures although some questions may pop up from the actual reading(s). He's not a tough teacher. He wants you to learn, and develop your own opinion about current events, which is why he won't express his opinion at times. Take his class! He's a great teacher.
Great teacher! Currently only polisci teach with Ph.D in Political Science at NVC so you get your moneys worth taking his class. Very informative lectures nd he knows what he's talking about. He's a funny guy so the classes aren't a snooze fest and he's not too bad on the eyes.
he really challenges your opinion by playing devils advocate and he knows what hes talking about. More conservative than most of my other teachers, but makes it up with his beauty
Professor Liscano's Ph.D level of education, studies and work all over the world have gave him a great background of the world. He brings a political point of view from the economic point of view which you'll never receive elsewhere. Professor Liscano's class doesn't lean one way or the other in retrospect of politics, it isn't about that, it's about informing the student about strengthening their own opinions, whatever they may be into stronger ones by playing devils advocate. His class is a blast to go to
Wow. He has got to be the hottest teacher i have ever known. Plus he's super-inteligent, funny, charming, and has the most interesting opinions. He has this way of making you look at things differently and consider things you wouldn't have considered. A great teacher, he makes government really interesting and his class doesnt have any homework, just lots of reading and studying. His tests are hard to a lot of students but that's because they think the lectures are enough. Over-all, he's awesome!!!!
hes fine and tight! what else is there to say?
I'm in love with him. HAHA! He's so hot. Oh, he's smart too. But really, a good teacher to have if you're willing to participate in class discussions. Very helpful and very clear in what his class outline is. I would take him again but I didn't do so well because not only is he a hard teacher, he is distracting as well!
Dr. Liscano is God-like to many students. He is rude and brutal at times, which of course the "regular" students love(all are males). At first I really enjoyed his class, until I realized that his lectures are down to a song and dance. His "act" is definitley well rehearsed.(APPLAUSE)Unfortunatley he forgets and/or repeats his lines excessively.
Dr. Liscano's classes should be models for all other courses taught at Napa. Amazing knowledge base, no pretentiousness, interesting, ongoing, non-boring dialogue on a subject I did not think I would enjoy at all. After I actually studied, tests got much easier. hehe I really enjoyed the classes a lot and actually went to every one. A first for me.
Liscano!!! God how I miss that fine piece of ass.. Thats it I am leavin Davis and coming back to NVC. mmmm, the hottest teacher I have ever had, well right next to Mr.Wideman, Professor Rocca, and Prof spriggs. Anyways besides liscano being hott, He engages his class in very interesting conversation. All my lower divison pol was with him. I miss u
Do not take this class. His class is entirely based on 4 tests. All answers on the test are "correct" but you need to choose the answer he prefers. Meaning reading the book was worthless. He loves to hear himself talk, he is always bragging about his PHD but he is a JUNIOR COLLEGE TEACHER, not a DOCTOR. He also lives at home with his parents.
Typical Liscano-hater below... Funny how they have the exact same comments on the exact same day. Probably the same person. Maybe not even a student. I have Liscano in PS120 and I've learned more in this class than any other class I've had here. EXCELLENT TEACHER!!!

I feel I deserved an A but got a C due to his bias. The only way to pass his class is to regurgitate his version of the information. Don't bother buying a text book just spit your notes back at him.
Dr. Liscano is a brillant teacher who merely expects that students read the material before the classes and that they have a general idea of what's going on. He isn't biased, he just (understandably) gets annoyed when half a dozen people have no idea what we're supposed to be talking about. Do the reading and you'll get an A. And he's gorgeous.
Dr. Liscano is an awesome teacher. He keeps class fun, and has a good sense of humor. I am honored to have had him as a teacher. He taught me so much, which makes me really happy since I didn't know anything about poli sci before taking his classes!
He's definately hot, makes it easier when you have to stare at someone for 90 minutes. His tests were pretty hard. Make sure to study.
Worst professor I have ever had. He never answers e-mails. He is full of himself and doesn't listen to his students. I go to Berkeley now and I have never had such a bad professor.
Arrogant, extremely conservative and is full of himself. If he is so smart, why doesn't he publish his own philosophies instead of defaming the ones he disapproves of. He doesn't belong in teaching. Take Clymer, he is a self-procclaimed conservative, but at least he listens to your political view.
He is a very intriguing teacher who opens your eyes to new thoughts about the world of politics and the government. He leaves you thinking at the end of class. He teaches from the book and from other sources, which make the class interesting. Class discussions are stimulating and it’s a fair portion of your grade, if you participate you will do fin
Most of what you are tested on comes from the slideshow, so despite the fact that attendance is not mandatory it is best to attend every class.
THE BEST PROFESSOR OF ALL TIME!
the class was very helpful. i did not know to much about goverment, but after taking his class my eye were opened to new things. (plus it didnt hurt that he is pretty good looking). it is important to make it to the lectures because he does let you know what you need to know for the test. and dont forget to ask questions.. he will ans. them.
Great teacher, very helpful highly recommend. If you participate in class you should be fine.
teachers should take a class from liscano to learn how to teach
you :(
Liscano is an excellent teacher. He's a really cool guy ( Plus he is really good looking! ha!) and very smart. He would ask u questions on class, so you need to pay attention 'cause he can suddenly say .."So, what do you think about this...?" Very easy class, if you go everyday to class.
True story...
Engages students who, aside from an transfer requirement, aren't interested in the class. Gets off topic occaisionally, but has great stories. Never bashes conservatives like other professors. Grade based on 3-4 tests and 2 written papers, so I'd suggest studying for the tests. Be sure to pay attention in class because he will ask you questions.
He does not take attendance, but its very important to attend. He goes through a lot during the course of a class. He is really easy to follow. He also provides study guides which really help. However, he does not cut anyone slack. If the passing score is 150 and you get 149 then you fail. Either way I loved his class and the way he teaches.
Listen carefully in class. Random conversations in class may be on test. Attendance not mandatory but you SHOULD go. Read the text, it helps. Give you study guide but study EVERYTHING. 4 tests and 2 one page papers. Congress Simulation for a week
Great teacher. Makes political science interesting. Be sure to pay attention, so if he asks you a question you are not caught off gaurd.
awesome teacher, makes a heavy subject interesting and comprehensible.attend lectures to stay on top of class.his fine looks, and engaging style are somewhat distracting though...guess that can't be helped..could be an incentive to attend!
One of the very best teachers at the J.C.He doesn't insult your intelligence by trying to pass off his opinion as fact.He knows his stuff and how to teach it. and girls......he's SMOK'N!!yesssssss
He's clearly intelligent (great store of facts & bouts of insight from his economics background); he's also attractive (thanks to really white teeth & his moderated voice inflections). I leave class thinking he is an impressive guy, but it seems he benefits more from it than his students.
While Liscano is a good professor...looking back on his classes I must admit that he refuses to acknowledge other points of view...Im not talking about the point of view of the streotypical liberal college student, but the point of views of other professors (not necessarily liberal) in his field that challenge his assertions and beliefs...
Good teacher, knows the topic backwards. He tends to go way off topic, or he will ask a question and never tell you the answer. He is conservative and very opinionated, it shows when you have to write a paper.
well, Mr. Liscano is- by far- one of the realest teachers i have ever had. he teaches in a way that gets the students to think outside of the box. he has an unconventional way of getting you to gain intrest in things you would not normally have intrest in. on a scale of 1-10, i rate him a 9.5, and i definetly am looking forward to take another one
Students feel less confident about themselves and more confident about the teacher.Evidence of a good teacher need be reflected more in students not just in the teacher.Smart teacher, but a personality that is subtly manipulative. Many students are growing seeking individuals just out of highschool and need someone to look up to.He needs to grow up.
I believe everyone is entitled to an opinion however, a few comments made about Mr. Liscano are off base.To set the record straight he is an awesome teacher. He makes the subject interesting, and you can understand his lectures. He also challenges you to think outside of your personal comfort zone. That is what a good teacher is all about!!
Not really sure where the personal attack on Mr.Liscano stems from saying "he needs to grow up". He is the fair, knows his material, and makes class interesting. However students are accountable for doing the work and showing up for class. He is fair. That doesn't mean you do what you want when you want in his class. That's why he's the instructor
who would have thought that a summer class on saturdays from 8am-3pm would be so cool and great??? Mr Liscano made the subject interesting, through his charisma, good sense of humor and intelligence. Def he is a good teacher. I learned a lot this summer!!!!!!!
Great teacher and it doesn't hurt that he's extremely easy on the eyes :)
Excellent teacher.
Loved the class. He's really smart and teaches everything clearly. He makes the topic interesting. Tries and balances out debates, which makes him look more conservative then he really is. Not a really easy class but as long as you study and do your work you can easly get an A. One of the few classes I've ever had that i looked forward to going
LOVE this professor. He is very cute but beyond that his class is very fun. He encourages discussion from the class and he is helpful in making sure that all the material is covered thoroughly.
i will give him credit, the class is intersting. but the tests are impossible. approximately 80% of the students in my class failed. the rest were low Cs and Ds with ONE B. His test are ALL lecture, and he WILL NOT give you the powerpoint.the only time you will use the book is when he calls on you to see if you have it. sports fan=brownie pionts
My son took Liscano a few years back and he enjoyed the class so much he told me to take it. This is my last semester at Napa and I'm finally taking Government. Liscano is excellent. Clear, honest, sees all sides. Plus he doesn't try to poison you with political correctness. He's pretty funny too. Best professor I've had at NVC bar none.
Even though he's not the easiest teacher, I would definitely take another class of his. He's a really cool guy and makes class interesting. Just do ALL your work ON TIME and you'll be fine.
AMAZING TEACHER! He made me look at politics in a whole new light. I looked FORWARD to his classes. He is truely inspiring. I would take any of his classes again. He also requires very little homework but I still learned more in his class than any other. Awesome teacher!
Goood, entertaining teacher. Knows his stuff. Barely any homework, tests are alright. I'd reccommend! True story.
Awesome teacher. I really recommend!!
He is one of the best teachers at Napa Valley. True Story. I didn't have to go to his class after I passed the forth test but did anyway because his lectures were top notch.
Great teacher! definitely recommend his class. He doesn't give much homework and his test/quizzes are easy.
So Liscano's right wing bias oozes out in his lecture, but is disguised as "playing devil's advocate." Either way, he is a very good professor, and what professor isn't biased? He does call on people randomly and encourages participation, so make sure you are not daydreaming during his class. Attendance is not mandatory, but you should go.
One of the best teachers in Northern CA. NO B.S.!! You will actually get some education instead of Marxist/Feminist propaganda! A REAL Teacher!
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. He was always very rude and intimidated his students and made you feel very dumb. He is very into himself and doesn't care about anyone's opinion and always shot down whatever you said. I will NEVER take another one of his classes.
When u speak up and oppose his views, he will shoot it down and push his. Tests are inconsistent because he himself is not prepared. Take this class as ur last resort. I lost interest as the class went on because he never gave feedback, used intimidation rather than encouragement, and did not respect his students enough to value their opinions :(
Liscano was VERY respectful to all students in our class! However he will challenge you at times to back up your opinion with the evidence that convinces you!Maybe this was a challenge the students below weren't up to. That's what college is for! Great teacher, presents all sides of an argument for consideration.Lets you own your own opinion.
Knows his stuff, he will make you participate so you have to stay up on current events, encourages students to think for themselves but will question your opinion, tests are on lectures and not hard, and he is entertaining. Take him.
Intelligent. Charismatic. Humerous. Knows his subject well and uses multi levels to help you learn it. Great lectures. Exams are hard so read the book. Be in class everyday and take good notes. Study! Read! Great Class.
As a Political Science major I am really critical when it comes to my professors and also attending UC Berkeley's International Relations Program I highly suggest taking Professor Liscano's class. He definatly knows his stuff! He genuinly cares about his students and pushes you to reach your highest potential.
overall pretty cool guy, great teacher, smart man who's passionate about education. If you dont mind having to work hard but actually learning something I recommend this class. He's also a pretty funny dude
Amazing professor! Teaches critical and analytical thinking. Not hard class: pay attention in class, take notes, study text before tests and you're good to go! Current events once in a while. Passionate about students and their future. Right after finals, he'll pull students aside and give a personal good-bye. Definitely won't forget Prof Liscano!!
Professor Liscano doesn't care about his students and just likes to hear himself talk. Very rude and opinionated. He doesn't like you if you disagree with him.
Pretty sure Liscano and I hated each other until he accepted that I'm not an idiot and I saw that he's actually a nice guy. He has very high expectations for his students and the pressure is felt in class. He really wants you to think critically but I think a lot of students are afraid of him. He made the experience hard but I magically got an A.
Horrible Teacher. Save yourself and don't take his class!
I did not care for this class much but I needed it for my GE, I have never been in too politics so I had a very hard time paying attention, and I only went to class half of the time. We only had a mid term and a final, which I enjoyed. he's very knowledgeable, but if you dint go to class just read the chapter and you will be fine.
Good Professor just very OPINIONATED. If you say something he will have a come back for it and might make you look stupid. Only had three tests and one writing assignment but, you have to study pretty hard. He is harder on classes that are required. He makes the class very interesting though.
The syllabus made the class seem very clear cut, but wasn't really followed. Do well on every assignment or your grade will falter greatly. He fostered a good learning environment, but don't expect to get help when you ask for it. He is nice and seems helpful, but never allowed us to view our test results. Made it very hard to study for the final.
This Professor gives his lectures based on his knowledge of the subject. You will learn a lot if you care about learning and put effort into the class. Ask intelligent questions and think about what was discussed in class. I thought he was very fair. He wants you to be critical thinkers and mature responsible adults.
He was AMAZING. The energy he brings to class makes you want to join the Chinese Olympic Gymnastic Team. I looked forward to going to class all the time; I even went on days when class wasn't even held. I failed every test and got an F in the class but I'm way more smarter now anyways. I wish every teacher was like him. He is so awesome.
Dr Liscanos class is like being the guy who makes cotton candy at the state fair. FREAKIN AWESOME!! I especially liked the section on public opinion surveys where we learned how unrepresentative samples, selection bias, and improper operationalization can destroy the validity of survey results, like online polls of students. lame.
He's very big about participation in his class. He's really helpful, but his tests are hard and wants you to be very specific with your answers. He's a pretty cool guy overall.
If you like constantly arguing with your professor, this is the class for you. He has very specific rights as to what the right answer is. Gives demeaning replies and refuses to consider any other points that don't align with his Republican views. Online class is easy, just do the quizzes and discussion boards. I did learn some things.
Liscano is such a great professor; he is so passionate about teaching and has a great sense of humor. Bringing your book to class is a MUST. He truly is an insparation and has opened my eyes. Also, he's very very handsome.
If you do what is expected of you, you should be fine. This means show up to every class on time and with material's ready, read the chapter's, and study. He is a great speaker and makes the class very interesting and helps you understand how politics works but the exams are based mostly on the chapter's, so READ.
Very passionate about what he does. He's the master of presenting both sides and allowing students to think for themselves. He's an excellent lecturer and kept me engaged every class. Give true participation to discussions and an honest effort to tests and you'll be okay.
He was great; probably the most informational class I've taken so far. You're grade will rely on participation, so make sure you're ready to raise your hand. He's pretty good at looking at both sides of an argument, which makes you become more open minded to things we consider "problems". Test are somewhat difficult. Book is ALWAYS needed.
Liscano knows what he's talking about. His lectures and PowerPoints are clear and detailed (make sure you take note because he doesn't share them), and his lectures are lively. However, he expects you to pay attention and will be a jerk to you if he thinks you are not. He mostly grades on participation and tests.
I would take another instructor
Okay so Liscano: he knows what he's talking about but he can be rude. If you can't handle criticism or watching others get criticized, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. The subject is interesting and you will learn, but be prepared to get your feelings hurt. He won't hold back. Most of the grade is made up of exams with questions straight from the lecture.
I was intimidated by him at first. In my first class ever with him, I dropped it. However, I went back. I am a Poli Sci major. He is very very very intelligent (obviously) and has alot of insight. He definitely requires participation. ALWAYS BRING YOUR BOOK TO CLASS. The tests can be significantly difficult. I have always gotten an A in his class.
Dr. Liscano is one of the best professors at Napa Valley College. His lectures are interesting and easy to follow. He is very funny and knowledge on the subject.
Liscano is an intelligent man, but extremely opinionated. He often solicits opinions from the class only to shoot it down with his own, and statistics that cannot be argued against on the spot. Quite unbecoming. This is especially frustrating since it is an introductory course, though he seems to expect you to know the very specific answers he want
Liscano's an interesting teacher. He's cynical but he really knows his stuff and he delivers it in a way that is informative, entertaining, and memorable. He's not for everyone but I, personally, really took a lot away from his class. He challenged my beliefs and made me really think about things. I took him for 125 and 135, both great classes.
Very smart teacher, knows his stuff and very respectable. Try to stay engaging in the class and you will do ok. On the negative side: the only thing used to grade us on the entire semester was 3 tests, 2 quiz's (worth nearly no points), and one simple paper. Meaning: if you are a bad test taker you are set up to fail.
10/10 teacher he really cares about whether you understand what hes lecturing on. Also he teaches visually as well which is great for usual learners.
Sad to hear he is thinking of retiring from teaching. If he taught every class I had to take I would be a lion in life.
I took the hybrid class so part of it was online and the lecture were at the campus. Its an easy A if you do all the discussions and follow the guidelines. The quizzes and test are moderately easy. You must read read read !
I took his online course so that being that if you show him you care and want an A, you'll get the A. Make sure you do discussion(FOLLOW HIS RULES), do weekly quizzes and make sure you study the materials for his exams, and try to get into his only conference, and it'll be a super easy class.
No homework, just exams. He is one of the best professors on campus. Get ready for constructive criticism. Show up and pay attention because he knows if you are not paying attention. He looks at all sides of issues and is very smart. Great class.
Definitely the best professor I've had on campus, and I think many people would agree with me. Just gives four exams and a few quizzes but he knows when your slacking.
The worst teacher I've had so far. He gives unclear instructions, and when I asked why he gave me 0's for discussions he said I wasn't clear and that I should read the material. As well that I wasn't making an effort in his class.I'll let you know I made effort. I missed 1 assignment and my grade dropped to a "D". I wasn't able to make it up.
Liscano will challenge any and all beliefs you have, whether he agrees with his side of the argument or not. He is the smartest teacher I've ever had and he knows that he smarter than most people and isn't afraid to point it out. Not much homework, tests and essays are the only thing graded. I recommend him highly if you can deal with arguments.
He really gets you out of your comfort zone. He's a tough grader but he will give you feedback why & actually wants you to learn. READ! This class was challenging for me.. but do the discussions & read, you'll be fine!
His online class is one(sometimes 2) discussions a week and a quiz. Youll get an A if youre sure to follow directions and dont miss deadlines. Hes a stickler about following directions. He uses god awful lecture powerpoints that doesnt allow you to speed up his voice so youll be stuck listening to 1+ hour lectures each week
Great professor opened my eyes to a subject I was not particularly interested in.
This professor was really interesting. This teacher is not there to make you feel good, however, he will make you think about what you believe. I found him very even keeled and never dismissing of other peoples beliefs. For Online Class: The PowerPoints he puts his lectures into are funky. But honestly, its just a minor inconvenience.
I took his online class and it is by far the worst class I have taken here at the JC. His weekly tests are worded so confusingly on purpose so that you are most likely going to get it wrong. I Wrote down a ton of notes during lecture and while reading the textbook but half of his test questions are not even about lecture/textbook content. hated it.
Enjoys putting students in the spotlight and keeps pressuring you even if you have no idea what to say. Belittled students in front of the class. Do NOT raise your hand unless you know exactly what you are going to say and how to back your statement up. Other than that, his lectures were entertaining I guess.
Why does this college treat students unfairly by allowing him to teach POLI 120. HE IS THE WORST profession on campus. He degrades you and makes you hate going to the college. Luckily the class was online otherwise I would have dropped a long time ago. The college should invest in teachers that care. He needs to resign and go fishing.
I'm assuming that based on his past reviews being high, that he is a good on campus professor. But he's definitely not a good online one. The stuff you need to read was very unorganized. Also I understand he mentioned that he would play devil's advocate a lot in class. But it came to the point it felt like a class made up from his OWN beliefs.
Stay away from him - although he is really the only one teaching POLI 120. You would think the college owuld invest is better professors. He thinks he is some philosophical person - he should be in politics. He sounds like them. Why is he even a professor. He really doesnt care about you - he is more about how his views are mainstream,
This class is hard to pass. I watched every single lecture and I made thorough notes on each chapter, but he makes the questions tricky in a way like he wants students to fail. I'm in his online class and he has zero connection with students. His powerpoints are sloppy. The discussions aren't really about the textbook just article he chooses.
The worst - maybe because it is online but he is straight up crazy. It is his views or you are insignificant. Horrible instructor. I guess anyone can teach these days. Dont take him unless you want to be treated like you are preparing your dissertation. Too bad - and I like politics - just not with him.
Horrible is all I can say. Why even be here teaching if all you care about is yourself and your beliefs. I even heard you downgrade others that do not agree with your philosophy. Never did I think I would pass this dumb class with such an arogant professor. I would NOT recommend his class to my cat.
Great professor, a quiz, and usually two discussions a week based on the reading. good choice
THE WORST ever! Napa Valley College - you really can do better than this. Makes me want to transfer.
I don't know what's going on with Prof anderson but I would avoid this class and this instructor. way too much personal politics. has lots to say about liberal arts majors that i personally found insulting as a sociology major. thinks he is god's gift to the world. i already have a college degree and i know not all teachers are this bad.
Mr. Anderson is a tough teacher. His lectures and discussion had little to do with the chapter topics & how he presents information makes understanding difficult. When writing, appeal to his beliefs & reach out for clarification. Resourcefulness & self-advocacy are crucial for success in this course. A positive thing is he's timely when responding.
John Anderson is one of the best professors I've had at this school. There is work to do, but the patterns are the same every week, so you know what to expect. Since Covid, he had to change to online. So, he recorded his lectures as he goes through each power point, and it worked. He is funny, and knows his history, which makes for a great teacher
At the start of the first class, he bragged about his low pass rate like it was a good thing. Red flag! I should have dropped but I stayed. He phrased his quiz questions vaguely on purpose to confuse people. Told the class in a wink-wink-nudge-nudge way to vote Republican in the next election to change the world for the better .
1 quiz and 1-2 discussions a week + Lecture slides & reading that u absolutely have to get through to past quizzes which are worth 60% of ur grade! The worst class I've had so far. Quiz questions sometimes make no sense, and he does not give enough time to complete it. He talks a lot about people not knowing things like TEACH me then. Good luck :/
Dr Anderson is not only incredibly knowledgeable about Political Science (has a PhD in a very tough subject) but he WANTS you to challenge how you think about things - the overwhelming majority of Americans really don't know anything about politics and your decisions shape very serious things in the country. Allow him to teach you and pay attention
Uses class material to back up his Republican POV. Lectures about not using biased sources, but his links in ppt slides are authored by right wing figures only. Gives $100 to the student with the highest test score which is unethical and probably illegal. Avoid at all costs, but if you can't, take him online so he can't belittle you for your major.
The worst professor at Napa Valley. He tries to impose his views on us and his views are horrible. The problem is that he not someone I would recommend to my worst enemy. I wish he would retire so we (students) can experience political science at its finest. My friends took poli sci at Solano or elsewhere. DO NOT TAKE HIM - avoid at all costs.
Horrible! His discussions are based on his political views. I came into this class with an open mind as I am not for any party. Eventually, I played along. Test are the worst part. You have very little time, and it won't get you far even if you take notes. He likes to mix words up to throw you off. I wish I had read this before taking the class.
The class was over a 6-week period, so the class moved quick. Each week was essentially broken up into powerpoints, reading, discussions, and quizzes. If you put in effort, then you'll get by just fine. Though, one thing I didn't like was that there was never enough time to complete quizzes, I always found myself rushing to answer every question
It's really too bad that he is the only professor teaching this subject at NVCC. There is an unreasonable amount of material to go over each week and his notes, announcements and explanations to questions are way too long. I dropped the class and took it at a different college. 10/10 would not recommend if you have other classes and or a job.
STAY AWAY - dropped him on the week. Wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, but what was written about him is TRUE. Glad I didn't need this class to graduate. Sad that he is the only one teaching - TOO BAD for others.
Long convoluted lectures, announcements and assignments that come off as ranting and rambling. Lots of his personal political opinion injected into the overall tone and presentation of the class. Weekly quizzes worth 50% of your grade are almost never from the material on the lectures and entirely from the textbook. Much harder than needs to be.
Very biased class! It would always feel like he would try to push his own conservative agenda and try to force you to answer within his own belief framework - otherwise it would be marked wrong. If you are not politically savvy and don't need this class, save yourself the time and take another class.
Professor Anderson challenges your thinking on many political topics. You can really learn stuff about the government no one tells you. The class, specifically the online course, only requires a few discussion posts and a quiz based on his PowerPoint lecture and chapter readings each week. In short, it is pretty easy.
Please acknowledge all bad reviews for Professor Anderson. Weekly quizzes make up half of your grade and he rambles on in every communication he sends to this class. He is the only professor teaching poli sci at nvc so heavily advise to take somewhere else. Also don't take the class if it is not required. He makes it harder than it should be.
Extremely hard grader, if my views did not align with his he deducted major points from almost every discussion post. Nothing in the power points is in the quizzes, it is strictly all from the textbook, so be ready to read a lot. I needed this class for graduation, if I had the choice to choose someone else I would have.
Professor Anderson was a great teacher, and he definitely is very knowledgable on government and politics. He also gives good feedback on discussion posts/assignments, which is very helpful. I took his 8 week online course, and I'd recommend memorizing vocabulary terms and concepts for the tests in order to succeed.
Professor Anderson was very knowledgable on all the criteria given. Unfortunately, he was an extremely hard grader. There were no full points given always 3.5/4 but he always explained his reasonings behind his grading criteria. Get ready for a lot of reading and listening to online powerpoint lectures!
Was a little nervous about taking this course because of these reviews. however, I appreciate his way of forcing you to look at policies in a different point of view and actually think about the discussions.
In this class, there is no textbook needed although you have to buy an ebook to do your reading assignments. I took his 8-week course, I will say there are a lot of discussions you have to do and he is a very tough grader. There is a test every week and it is all based on the lessons and discussions.
Beware of him. He will force his opinions onto the students and will grade you if you hold opposing views. He claims that he plays "Devil's advocate" but he only plays devil's advocate if you do not view the same things as him. If you do not have to take his class, do not take him. If you do have to, take the shorter term.
This has been THE WORST professor I have ever had. So much unnecessary work. A week expect: 2 discussions, 2 slide presentations, chapter readings, quiz with about a minute per question, long announcements you'll be quizzed on. Learning should be enjoyable, and he frankly makes it miserable. Too bad this class is a requirement.
If you are not a FULL time student then do not take this course. It requires excessive time and dedication, as if this is your only class! There are quiz's due by 4:59pm Sundays(no late work) book work reading w/ short answers and Q&A, 4 to 5 discussions with extensive answers that he reads and provides super tough feedback... ALL of this WEEKLY!
One of the toughest professors I've had. Tests are half of your grade, but he drops your lowest score. Be ready for rambling on announcements, discussions, and tests. He provides feedback on nearly all of your discussion replies, so follow his guidelines. I recommend taking the 8-week class if you're sticking to introductory government here.
I took this course twice to pass it. If you are a full time student, don't recommend taking this class since it takes so much of time to complete. Another thing is not to take it in the summer session. Focus on the tests -huge difference in your grade. Very complex with the discussions- same info- no late submissions accepted for all standards
I took the 6-week class and it was heavy. We had 4 discussions & 3 chapters a week and several of his own presentations. I understand now when he says he wants us to think differently, once you shift your perspective from what you've learn from family and school you start to see the government different. This class was hard but also gratifying.
Worst professor I've ever had in my entire life. Everything that's graded is based on his opinions and if you don't say exactly what he is thinking or how he feels, you don't get full credit. I'm still in this course and I find myself replying to every single submission comment he leaves because they are so disrespectful, rude, and not helpful.
Do not take this class if you can help it. I have lost so many mental health points taking this class. I'm taking the 8-week, btw. The work load for this class is massive. 1-2 chapter reads with several questions, polls, and discussions in each section (most chapters have 20-25 sections), plus 4-5 normal discussions, and a quiz. This is weekly.
Professor Anderson's POL120 class is no walk in the park. Expect a heavy workload with weekly tests, discussions, and presentations. But if you put in the effort, you'll learn a lot. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for my study prep.
if u failed idk how u failed literally easiest class oat
I couldn't wait till the semester ended because it was difficult for me to finish. It was also annoying to hear him call our generation “too sensitive.” Don't join the class if you don't want a conservative professor that doesn't really understand “sensitive” people. The discussions were also difficult for me.
he assigns excessive homework, including about 4 discussion posts, 2 quizzes, and chapter readings with subscription access only, weekly. He grades harshly if you disagree his conservative view, and left rude comments. His boring lectures require downloading each PowerPoint and listening to them to get answers to discussion posts. Avoid this class
Never responds to emails, usually not in his classroom. Not easy to get a hold of and definitely wouldn't take again. Even though his work aint that hard, he's just a difficult professor to get taught from.
Do not take this class, this man will not respect any opinions other than his own conservative ones. He has told multiple art majors that they need to change their major because they won't make any money. He leaves extremely condescending comments when grading and truly doesn't want his students to do well.
Take the Summer session just to get the class over with. He's very bias with his conservatives views and will test you on random things on himself he puts in his assignment info (ex. point question on a test asking if his family was from Mexico or Ireland). I would lie about your views if you're left-leaning on the political spectrum.
Professor Anderson is one of the toughest instructors I've encountered thus far. Absolutely dislike his approach to teaching, the way he responds to his students, and how tough he is on grading. Be aware there are 1-2 quizzes WEEKLY, there are 2-5 discussions weekly, and you HAVE TO answer all the questions for the "online text" or you will fail.
The class is fine. It's just the workload 2 reading that can easily last 2 + hours , weekly quizzes that consist of 50 + questions. And the fact that He never posted any of the articles or lectures that we were supposed to use to answer the discussion question.* Note even though he says that there located in the powerpoint section there not.
To put it simply: he is going to nit pick at your responses to discussions. It is very hard to get full credit, but can be done. I wouldn't say he was entirely horrible, but I would NEVER take his course again. I did not feel like I could approach him too often. Test heavy, reading heavy, and I did not like the lecture style personally :/
Absolutely hated this class and always felt scared to share my true opinions on things he asked. Why ask me if you're just going to judge me? And then you want to call my generation sensitive for having empathy. It's quite insane. Maybe therapy would do you good.
Class was a lot for a summer session but doable. People complain about the discussion posts, but the book work was worse. Three chapters were marked late when the system took some time to finalize. I emailed talking about this asking for half credit and he just gave me full credit, no issues. PowerPoints had a solid structure though.
I would say he's okay. He makes you think about different point of views, even if you don't necessarily agree with them. Expect lots of work, maybe like 10-18 hours of work a week, at least that's how it was for me. I do not recommend this class if you do not want to be politically challenged.
