Not available for extra help in summer course
moves fast, keep up, attend everyday, very energetic

OK, OK, OK, the guy on the ledge says OK. boring....unless you tally the OKs
Pay attention, keep up, do the homework, he's a nice guy
that damn guy on the ledge.....fast paced teaching, do homework! go for help
HE MAY NOT BE THE EASIEST BUT HE IS A GREAT TEACHER!!!!!! DEFINATELY RECOMMEND
pretty easy, says 'ok' a lot and talks about the man on the ledge too much
Ok, Good Enough! Very energetic and FAST! Good teacher though!
He always says 'ok'. He has 5 grades, 20% a piece, so if you mess up once you mess up the whole thing. 4 tests and the final. GOOD LUCK. i did terrible*
The man on the ledge...AHH!! this guy is a great teacher. if you're willing to put in any effort whatsoever, he'll help through it.
Fast teacher, DO NOT SKIP CLASS! this is one of those classes that if you do you're done for the year. Pay attention to examples, they work wonders for homework and tests.
IF YOU CAN KEEP UP, HE'S COOL
Does say "ok", "guys", and "man on the ledge" a lot, but tries to make a boring subject like statistics interesting. Hes nice and easy, but the class is a little boring. RECOMMEND
I thought that he was very hard. Do not skip a class! I failed both tests he gave miserably before dropping it. If you are not a math person, do not take him! He's very intelligent and he wrote the book.
Teaches at a very high level, and grades like a beast. Small mistakes will cost you alot on tests.
Would not recomend unless you are extremly confident in math. He knows his stuff but test are imposible.
Very good, clear teacher! Nice guy and always willing to help! I would highly reccomend him if you have to take Calculus!
Very tough class, you have to follow along with homework and ask questions if you don't understand. You have to grasp the first few concepts, if you don't you're screwed for the semester! (I got a B) =p
Very friendly, very helpful, but very fast and thorough. You will need to put effort into the class and go to him for help. Tests are hard. He knows his stuff and is willing to help. He writes too fast and messy. Curves nicely if you put in effort.
He is really friendly and helpful but the class is really hard.
He says "OK" the whole class period. I can't concentrate on anything else, but he's very nice.
Very nice guy. Certain nice stuff. He is not easy, but if you work hard and ask questions you can get an A. Talks alot about the "man on the ledge." I would recommmend him if you need to take busn calculus.
Hard, but willing to help. Your grade on test has no corrolation to how long you study.
He's a sweetheart. He dresses like he's in the mob & his bangs flop when he walks fast. Say's 'ok' a lot & always talks about guy on ledge?! He explains everything in detail & reviews a lot. I like math so his class isn't too difficult for me.
Horrible. says "ok" every other word. wrote the book, yet always seems lost. that comb over is horrible. talks about the guy on the ledge like he is actually in the class. never tells you the short way to do anything. doesn't clarify anything. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!
talks like the penguin. writes in chicken scratch. goes too fast. he uses his own textbook which is a horrible horrible text book. try to avoid this teacher if possible.
I had to take this class and i HATE math. he is a very good teacher and he makes sure that everyone knows what they are doing. kinda talks like a mobster and dresses like one too. he is very knowledgeable about his subject, but you have to go to class or youll be lost on the tests
He is a great math teacher!! Don't get anyone but him for business calc. Even if you don't like math he will make it clear and easy by explaining EVERYTHING! Doesn't check homework or attendance but if you want an A I suggest you do both. Little effort to acheive a B!!
All notes for this class. Once he puts numbers to words, the formulas are easy to understand. Talks about the "guy on the ledge". Writing is difficult to make out, just ask him what he wrote. Maple assignments are easy to do. About 4 tests; just remember the formulas and how to do them. Good guy.
This classed SUCKED. He talks way too fast, never reviews, and loves the "guy out on the ledge." Tests are HARD. Maple projects are a good way to get some good grades, but they only count for 10% of your grade. Textbook is awful because he wrote it, so if you don't understand him you're screwed.
Not that hard of a class...do the homework...and go to him outside of class, becuz u won't get much during class becuz he moves way too fast if you don't understand it...but he'll help you out outside of class
Super Hard...Need I say More!
HE is a decent teacher and he is smoking, you gotta go to clasas tho and boy is he hot the subject matter was hard and he kinda went fast thru it dont take this class altho he is really hot.
This class is hard! He goes through the stuff fast, but if you go to his office he will help you a lot. You also need to do the homework to be able to keep up in this class because most of the notes are on theory but not application. Overall, his class is a rough one but great if you can grasp it.
He is very helpfull outside of class. I went to his office before turing every maple assignment in and he told me what I did wrong so I could change it and got a 100 on all of the maple assignments. his tests are kinda hard, you need to go to class to do well
his writing cannot be read. he wrote his own textbook that has many type-o's in it. his tests do not reflect on the material taught in class. DO NOT TAKE HIM unless you previously took calc or don't mind having a D on your transcript. I was forced to withdrawl.
This is one weird little man. Listening to him talk was enough to make me want to drop the class. Not recommended.
Worst class ever!! Forced to withdraw - he makes it seem REALLY simple in class, but is impossible on tests!! The way he talks will drive you insane, and by the end of class you will want to find the "man on the ledge" and STRANGLE HIM!!!
Had him for 135 & got an A. He explains everything about the problems and how to work them. Daily HW helps, you can normally walk in his office right before class to ask questions. Tests use mostly the easier problems. About 5 and final. I guess some people find this type of work hard...
This guy is not very clear when he teaches. He is not very understanding or helpful when it comes to testing. Tests are hard. nice guy tho, but i didnt like him as a prof
booo! not a cool class, ok guy but not a good prof!
The guy is a great guy and real nice, but goes through problems so fast its hard to keep up and understand...Also says the words "ok" repeatedly...i tallied 276 times one class
Since I don't like math anyways, it sux. Like everyone says, he's a good guy but as far as teaching.....if he says "ok" one more time i'm walking out! He goes way to fast and that pop quiz sucked!
One time i counted and he said the work "ok" 145 times throughout the class period...he says it like every other word....

First of all he does say "OK" a couple hundred times a class. There is the mysterious guy on the ledge and you cannot read anything he writes on the board. All in all he is the BEST math teacher I have ever had. He never ever skips any steps which I have determined was a huge problem with my other math teachers. His tests are extremely fair and cover what we do in class and so is the homework. Very easy to reach but the Maple stuff sucks. Take him.
ok this ok professor ok is ok the ok worst ok professor ok i ok have ok ever ok had ok.I ok had ok to ok drop ok this ok class ok. Luckily ok, I ok just ok switched ok majors ok, so ok I ok didn't ok need ok it ok. Avoid ok at ok all ok costs ok, especially ok if ok reading ok this ok was ok annoying ok.
he kept talking about "these guys" and "the guy out on the ledge"...it was so hard to make myself go to class....his tests aren't bad though...make sure you do the homework he gives you
Wow, he is a great guy dont get me wrong, but if you are thinking of taking this class, re-think this professor...goes very fast and if you get behind say good bye to your grade...hard to catch up...veryy borrrrrringggg as well...you will literally have to drag urself to class
Ok, so he is ok. He, um..ok, is very thorough, ok. And ok, I understood the class very well, ok. Took a summer class, ok. And, ok, watch out for the guy on the ledge, ok...yeah definitely, definitely ok.....
pretty easy if you do some of the homework and pay attention in class. he says "ok" more than anyone else ive ever met.
i think hes a great teacher. he does say ok alot but if youre actually paying attention to the math he trying to teach you then its not so bad. i thought his class was very easy as long as you try a few of the problems he gives you for home work. tests are easy...lots of pop quizes
a lot of people have complained that his class is too hard and that he doesn't actually teach, but those also tend to be the people who don't show up. the material isn't interesting, but if you go to class everyday, take notes, and do the homework, you'll me more than okay...and he's not nearly as bad as that prof. that doesn't speak english.
Hes ok. Nothing fabulous. He doesnt check the homework which is good. If you take notes and study for an hour or two before tests you should be fine
Best math professor I ever had, took him for 110 and 125. Very clear and no surprises on his tests. Requires a lot of studying though, not an easy A. Don't skip class unless you can teach yourself, which is very hard. If you are good at math than this is the man to take. He dresses cool also.
A really fair guy. Doesn't expect too much. Doesn't expect too little. Pretty good at explaining things too. But who is the man on the ledge he's always talking about?
boring class, pretty cool guy though. hes a good teacher, knows what hes doing. make sure you study for the tests though, theyre usually only a few questions each, so each question is worth a lot. he never lets you out early, but he's funny and always talking about some guy on a ledge.
Funny guy. He uses the guy on the ledge as an example of the student who just uses common sense and often comes to the wrong answer. His class is easy because its straightfoward he tells you what kind of problems you need to know but there's always that one problem I see and think where the hell did this come from? LOL
His class was really hard, not that I'm a math wiz, but if your math sucks like mine does than stay away, he gives lots of examples but none of them ever seem to be on the tests and his test problems vary slightly enough from class examples that they threw me for a loop
I really liked him as a teacher. If you do the HW your fine. Says "OK" a lot in class lol. I didn't mind him as a teacher, he is HARD so do HW, study and pay attention in class (which...you should be doing anyway!!!) and you'll be fine
Very hard and completely unforgiving. Would not allow me to make up work missed for a funeral or hospitalization. Once you realize how often he says "OK" its hard to pay attention to what he's saying. My classmates and I made a game of tracking how many times he said "Ok" each class. AVOID IF POSSIBLE!
"ok so, the guy on the ledge..." i dreaded this class to no end, not very helpful, boring, and hard to understand
Avioli is decent. he isnt the most clear or concise all the time. he expoects you to know your algebra. hes fair. only 4 tests and a final. dosen't require attendance but if you skip you'll be lost, moves pretty fast
Great teacher to take if you not math major, and want an A. He doesnt collect homework, and the tests are simple material that he provides plenty of examples for. The only work i did for this class was study for about an hour before the test.
Avioli is a decent teacher; he really does say "okay" at least a few times per sentence; however, when he's going through the problems and you're concentrating, it isn't as noticeable and you begin to ignore the "okays" after a month. Overall he's pretty good, although I've heard that other teachers are far easier.
He is a very good professor, but he does say ok a lot. As long as you go to class, pay attention, and STUDY for the tests you should be fine. The maples that he gives you during the semester are not that bad. Overall the class is ok, but the final sucks...even though I studied for almost 2 days, I still failed it.
Garbage, could not understand anything he taught. Tests were doable if you knew anything, but he didn't teach so you didn't. And he says ok over 300 times a class period...
This professor does not know what he is doing. He strikes me as lazy, in that he does not appear to plan any lessons, but instead assigns random homework problems (never graded) and spends at least half of the following class explaining them. His tests are difficult and worth a huge percentage of your grade. I feel like the "guy on the ledge."
Amazing teacher!!! He cares about what he teaches and who he teaches. Yeah he says OK a lot, and refers to some random guy on the ledge, but he is an amazing teacher. He was also my academic advisor. Very very VERY helpful and knowledgable.
great guy! down to earth and funny without trying to be. kinda hard though. passed his stats class but failed his calc class (then again, i did fall asleep like every class period).
UMMM...WHAT??? I didn't understand a single thing this guy said! I actually dropped his class and went and took the same class with Brady and Brady is a million times better. Avioli kept talking about some guy on a ledge?? Still have no clue what he was talking about! Stay away and take with Brady!!!
He explains things in great detail, if you like that. We spend an hour and fifteen minutes going over one or two problems. He says the word okay a large amount of times during the class and always refers to this random guy on the ledge. He is decent, but his class seems to take forever.
ok. dont listen to the peope who failed this class because if they did it wasnt the Professors fault. he goes over everything you need to know in class and tells you exactly what will be on the exam. its EASY!! just pay attention and go to class.
Avioli isn't a good teacher if you aren't good at math. He does say OK a lot and talks about the guy on the ledge but that isn't the worst part. He will not give any extra credit. And does not give much help at all if you ask.Your grade is based off of 4 or 5 tests, thats it. I am trying to avoid him for Math 135 next semester.
I didn't really like his grading. I'd get a sign wrong or make a small arthimatic mistake and lose 1/3 of the points for the problem. I failed this course and took other one and I am going much better
This teacher was horrible. He was extremely confusing and does not speak or write clearly. His handwriting looks like hiroglyphics and is totally illegible. All other statistic students with other teachers have said the class is easy and fun, but with him it is terrible. One test had a question worth 56 points alone. Extremely difficult tests.
Extremely intelligent professor, but has little interest in helping struggling students. Basically, if you are good at math naturally, you'll flourish. But if you are like me and need lots of help, you'll have a lot of trouble. The only grades are from tests, and homework and attendance aren't mandatory.
I depend on clear notes and examples to help me and get me through any math class and his were bad. He would get things wrong or change the problem. He talked about "the guy on the edge of the cliff" and I have no clue where that came from and he said ok like every other word. Tests were somewhat difficult do practice problems from book to help.
He is an overall good professor and the class, in my opinion, is not hard. Don't get me wrong, it did take me a while to get over him saying ok 342427 times per class but if you meet with him during office hours he's really helpful. Also, he's very knowledgable and attendance is not mandatory but suggested.
once said the word ok 176 times in a period of about an hour.. nice guy but not that useful
Be prepared to understand evrything off of the bat, because he moves 100 miles per hour and won't slow down for people. The only grades you'll have are from the tests, which is really annoying, because if you get a bad grade on it, you're toast. It's really difficult to keep up with him.
Dr. Avioli is a genius, but he lacks the skills to be a great teacher in the classroom. His handwriting is illegible, which hinders the student's ability to learn; he speaks without drawing breath; and his tests are extremely hard, although he hands it out saying that its "easy." Unless you like a challenge, don't take his class
Easiest professor at CNU! I got a 100 on all of his tests. He also tells really funny jokes during class. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
NO NEED TO STUDY!!! I never even went to class and got an A just by winging it. Ask him to do a backflip after class, he used to be a gymnast. He's also a cutie :) GREAT PROFESSOR!!!
Worked my butt off for 8 weeks only to inevitably have to drop the class. If you are not already an expert at calculus, you will drop the class, TRUST ME. 70% of the people in the class were taking it for their second time. His tests are ridiculously hard, poor teaching skills/poor speaking clarity. Do not take him, you will end up retaking it.
I worked harder in that class than any other one. My test grades went from 65 to a 99 on the last one. I swore I got an A on the exam but he curved it to the classes average which, for anyone shooting for an A in the class, just plain sucks.
Do the homework go to class and it is an easy A if you have half a brain. He knows his stuff and will answer any questions. He explains everything in class and is a great teacher. He mispronounces words which is really funny. Take his class.
I worked as hard as I could in that class, only to find out that the final exam was basically a "You failed" exam. I spent hundreds of dollars of tutoring, studied 14 hours a week, and got me a paid notetaker because the University couldn't find one. The professor could not give me accommodations. He kept talking too fast, and was rude to me inclas
Really nice man, very kind. The class does move 100 mph. i couldn't keep up and dropped the class. the grading was kind of hard, only 4 tests.
Awful awful awful! Don't take if you can help it. Didn't learn a thing. Failed the first test, eneded up withdraing from the class. Took it again with another professor and passed no problem.
He always walked in with a smile on his face and ready to go over the homework. If you go to class and do the homework, you're gonna be fine. If you miss a class...you're probably gonna be lost. Also, if he notices that you try...chances are he will boost your grade in the end! I'm taking him again for 140 :)
He's super funny.
He says "okay" every third word and is very unclear. This class is required for my major and I am surely going to fail since it is impossible to read his handwriting I don't understand his examples.
You can't read his handwriting and he goes extremely fast. That said, he is always ready to go over homework, extremely helpful during office hours, and extremely friendly. There are only 4 tests and the final, so grading is tough, but do the homework and talk to him when you're having trouble and you should be fine.
I took business calc last semester with him, i failed the first test and ended up failing the entire class. I went to class everyday, did all the hw assignments, had a tutor, and went to him during office hours. nothing could help me pass that class. avoid if possible.
Great Professor, Great man, all around great!
Thank God this man has retired now. He was absolutely impossible, couldn't write legibly, and was useless during office hours. I was pleasantly surprised to see that D- when grades came out.
His handwriting is not the best, but he always made himself available to clear up any questions. For those that say he is too hard... it's a math class, and it is college. If you are not devolped enough (cognitively) to take his courses, that is one thing, but there is no reason people should fail his classes. SACK UP!
Dr. Avioli was the BEST prof I had at Christopher Newport. His classes were both enjoyable and interesting. I was never board in his classes. And I'll never forget after going over a problem that almost circled the room he would say; "great problem for a test."
