The best professor ever. Down to earth, father figure to all. Great guy!!!!
BEST PROFESSOR EVER
Easy to get along with. Off the wall crazy, but in a good way.
Crazy but an entertaining class. If you have an A at the time of the final you do not have to take the final. Also, his tests are generally curved very sexy like.
Baen is harsh but he will help you out in every way possible
Hey was a great professor with good information. If you need info on how to save, recieve a better return on investments and how to buy a house take this class.
I actually liked getting up in the mornings and going to Baen's class. This guy is hilarious. I laughed pretty much through the whole class, very entertaining. Dont be fooled by the humorous atmosphere, you still have to study your textbook very thoroughly to get a decent grade. Best teacher i've ever had at UNT.
good teacher! i learned a lot about things that I will use in my everyday life! His tests are hard with many parts. He really wants all his students to be successful. He has a true passion for what he does and cares about all his students individually!
Basically if you can't get a copy of old tests then you are screwed. He curves all tests, but that is because he doesn't review you at all. The class is interesting but he doesn't prepare you for tests at all.
Professor Baen is hilarious, caring and intelligent. He makes coming to class in the morning worthwhile. But his test are hard and if you want to pass you have to read the book and come to class!
I never went to class.. but if I had, I would have gotten an A. The tests are based on the textbook, he doesnt give reviews and is TERRIBLE at giving you any idea what's on the test. The class is fun though and Baen is a class act
Teaches by telling stories about real estate deals, and by instilling the mindset of a commercial investor. Really interesting stuff with some joking around involved.
great teacher.... one of the few who actually cares about his students.... by far the best proffesor i've had at UNT
Baen is awesome, best teacher of life success skills ever. What ever you learn about real estate is a bonus
The only professor I whose class I made sure to attend EVERY DAY!
As a grad student, Dr. Baen was the greatest prof I've ever had at either of the two schools attended. He IS the real deal with life xperience and a six-figure income. I've never found anyone who could touch his flashy teaching style. Hes also a great person and his life lessons are unbeatable. He's in an Elite class--the best of the best
John Baen is hands down my favorite college professor. I would take any class that he taught if I could. I learned so much from him and I know that if I ever need him, I can count on him.
he should be a comedian. SO funny makes the class fly by. he curves the hell out of every exam by 20 pts or more just so we all pass. if your ears are tender to cuss words dont take this class otherwise he's the best teacher i've ever had. Def take him! he makes your day just a little better
I loved this class! The class is interesting and best of all he curves the tests! Haha. It's important to read the chapters and go to class. Each test is divided into 2 parts, fill in the blank and multiple choice. The curves, honestly, saved me because I was lazy & didn't read as much as i should have...I'd def take another class of his though!
Baen is one of my favorite teachers ever. All test are automatically curved to a 75. This man does not want the class to get in the way of you taking home the important information. He generally cares for his students and wants them to succeed. He is a valuable asset of knowledge. He is the real deal.
Best Prof I have had at UNT - passionate about real estate, investments, and life in general. Relates real estate to life and making a great living. Very respectable - great mentor~
By far my favorite teacher at UNT. Im not a REAL major. I was waiting for my class to start on the first day and next door i hear this dude talking crazy. Found out about the class and signed up. I'll never forget the lessons I was taught. take the class read the book study and make and you will make an A.
This class is an easy A and Dr. Baen is a nice guy, but honestly I didn't learn anything about real estate. I learned a lot about current events but that was about it. Yes he curves the tests but half the questions on the tests were actually graded wrong. Do not take his class if you actually want to learn something about real estate.
I had Baen for Principles and Investments. He is the best professor I ever had by far. You will learn a lot more other than Real Estate in this class. This guy knows so much its scary. Baen will make you a better business person by just sitting in his class. Super funny, just a great learning experience.
Only Class I'v ever WANTED to go to. Baen is very smart and interesting. He will have you laughing half of the class with his humor. Most i have ever learned in any class.
Funny guy who keeps you very interested. You will learn just as much about life as you do about real estate.
If you can get copies of the tests from the previous 2 or 3 semesters to study you will be golden on his tests. Otherwise prepare to do A LOT of studying from the book and not do so well on the test, but he curves it by 30 points to help. He's not very clear during his reviews but otherwise he's interesting and you will learn alot.Funny too.
Baen is a nice professor. HOWEVER, if you really care about learning something then choose ANOTHER professor. You can't go to his office hour. Don't go to his assistant either bec he doesn't know anything. He goes way too fast, and his exams doesn't match his teaching. It was very frustrating, I hope he retires soon, seriously...Plz--retire...
He is an inspiration to one and all at UNT. His classes are great. The best prof ever, he is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He has inspired me for life, he is the most interesting person that I have ever met in my life.
Baen is a nice guy, but his tests are impossible because a) the test questions come out of the book, WHICH IS WRONG. and b) because you have to memorize several lists. He doesnt have a blackboard account, so you never know your grades. Handwriting is very hard to read, and he jumps around all the time.
He's a funny guy, he curves most of tests but you still need to study, the final was so long and not easy at all. I thought I was gonna make an A , but I ended up with C!!!
His tests aren't really very easy, but he curves very nicely. Go to class every time, it's worth it if not for the tests, for application to life. Take notes on lists and acronyms only. Read the book and practice questions because they become test questions (word for word). Don't let any blank go unfilled on free response. Interesting class.
This guy is a genius of the real estate world. He is extremely interesting and makes class worth going to. Most everything he teaches can be used later on after college. He is the reason i started taking more real estate classes.
Baen is the man. Best professor Ive ever had, and I mean that. He tells us to not take notes and listen. Easy tests. Youll learn a ton if you can keep up, hes quick
Get the old test and you'll make an A. No questions. Baen is simply the best teacher at UNT. He inspires you to do better and genuinely wants his students to succeed in life. As long as you have a pulse you'll pass. Baen takes priority in teaching, not in grading. Can't say enough good things about this man.
He's one of the best professors I've taken. He teaches for the sake of teaching. In this class, he shows current events from the newpapers and comes up with insightful conclusions that I would have never seen. He really cares for his students and really urges them to do something they love. He's also a really funny guy.
Baen is the best! Not only will he go out of his way to help a current student, he gives you a lifetime guarantee that he will help you out in the future. He gives you opportunities to build your network with some of the most influential real estate people in DFW. I highly recommend taking this class even if you don't need it.
This guy is really interesting and helps you out with real life things!
Baen is the best teacher. People talk about having a teacher that you remember for the rest of your life. He is it. His lectures are awesome. If he tells you to write something down then do it. Other than that just listen and enjoy! Such an amazing guy!
Realist.
He is an awesome teacher, he really cares about his students and has a great personality! I love this man!!! take him he gives nice curves
Dr. Baen is a very cool and nice teacher. I learned alots in this class and very entertaining class. He telles you what's on the exams and what need to be study for. The first 2 exams are really easy, but the final is hard. 2 exams, 1 final, and a project. Attendance is not mandatory.
Awesome professor! ALways enging, and always knows how to relate topics to something you can easily understand. He goes out of his way to make sure that you have a complete understanding of the subject matter by the end of the semester!
Best teacher I have ever had. If you just want to listen to a boring lecture about the book do not take him, but if you want to have fun learning real world stuff then you will love this class.
Baen was awesome. It is the only class I've ever not wanted to miss. He is the most engaging professor I've ever even heard of and will make you laugh the whole class. He has a very fast pace and test don't match his teaching but they are straight from the book and he tells you to study the book and lists.
Baen is my favorite professor I've ever had. This class should be taken by everyone, regardless of Major. He not only teaches you about Real Estate but also give you helpful information for your life regarding taxes, buying homes, saving money, etc. Curves tests. Pretty funny. Best professor ever. This is a class you won't want to miss.
Best professor you will ever have. Hands down. You will learn a lot about not only real estate but lessons about the real world. He has a great look on life and it is a pleasure listening to his lectures. You will learn more from his course than any other you will take in college.
Great Teacher, Baen cares more about his subject then most professors care about literally anything, you WILL learn a lot.
AMAZING PROFESSOR, BEST IVE EVER HAD
Best professor, I've had at UNT so far. He brings more to the table than just textbook bable. He has lived life to the fullest, and he shares his stories. He communicates well, but I wonder if he writes his tests? Although the personality of the Professor is light hearted, the tests may suprise you in difficulty.
BEST TEACHER YOU WILL EVER HAVE! I wanted to withdrawl from school forever but forgot to drop my classes in time so decided to stay enrolled in one last semester. After one class from this professor my life was literally flipped upside down!!He will give you the most amazing confidence, determination, & knowledge you will ever get from ANYONE ever.
Incredible teacher. He makes this class very enjoyable. Tests were a lot harder than expected. Final was long and difficult.
Definitely one of my best professors at UNT. Keeps class very interesting and knows his stuff. Curves test so much it is hard not to make an A in this class.
Baen is awesome. Every class made me want to change my major to Real Estate! If I were not in my senior year when I first took him I would have!
Baen is awesome. Very entertaining lectures and will teach you the most about life than any other professor. Be ready to study though. 3 tests and a final. He curves each test to a class average of 75 though so most people will make a B or A! Fun projects too. He is the best professor and recommend him!!!
If you don't pass this class then you should drop out of school
Hands down best teacher in the school! He is fair and you learn so much from him. He is the definition on what a teacher should be like.
Baen is funny and pretty out there. I like him as a person but not as a teacher. He is completely unorganized. His lectures most of the time have nothing to do with the course. He avoids answering any questions you might have and does not post grades on blackboard.
I got a C in the class but honestly I had personal issues. If I didnt have my issues this semester, its the easiest A. He is so smart and kind to his students. He is also hilarious. He has the best lectures, and I would take the class again just because he is who he is and has many beneficial life stories to tell.
He curves each test to a 70% regardless of your actual score. Then he adds the difference between seventy and your actual score, adding that number to the 70. So if you actually make a 50, you make a 90 after the curve. It's math sorry education majors.
John Baen is the best thing that ever happened to UNT. Guy is absolutely brilliant. By far the most interesting class I've ever taken. You'd be silly to skip class or not pay attention.
Baen was fantastic. Tests are tough but they are substantially curved. He teaches you exactly what to do when purchasing your first home which is incredibly useful. He is HILARIOUS and made our morning class enjoyable. Baen truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Do NOT be afraid to ask him for help at anytime!
Most inspirational and engaging professor I ever had. This is the first class I've ever taken where I genuinely looked forward to going to class. Tests can be difficult, focus more on taking good notes in class and studying the handouts to prepare for them.
found textbook at willis on reserve
Baen gives the absolute best lectures out of every professor on campus. However, he talks so fast and does not repeat himself, so whenever something related to the exam comes up, he lets you know, but be ready to write quick. Exams are difficult, but he curves them 30 points because he wants you to pass and learn life lessons.
BEST PROFESSOR IN UNT! I've taken the real estate 2100 and 4200 and it was so worth it! he really cares about the subject, and he also makes class enjoyable. I even decided to minor in real estate because of him! even if you're not a real estate major or minor, still do take him to learn more about buying a house! Easy A! curves tests like crazy!
Baen's a very engaging lecturer. He doesn't care if you come to class, but you actually want to go. Only con is that he is unorganized and tests are unexpectedly hard but at least he curves them. I learned the hard way that he does expect you to read the chapters so be prepared to READ. Make an A in the class before the final and you get exempt.
Baen is one of the best professors that UNT has to offer, his material is engaging, his teaching method is phenomenal and the grades he gives are fantastic.
Baen is the best!! The grading curve is ridiculous. If you can at least show up to exams and write your name down on test, curved to 75. A lot of life lessons taught in class, not just reading from book. He is a little wacky, completely unorganized, and sometimes hard to follow, but you'll have a great time.
He spends class mostly telling stories about his own real estate experiences, which is really interesting and fun. I expected the tests to be blowoff easy, but they're actually super specific and cover like 5 chapters of the textbook at a time. I learned the basics of how to get into real estate, but I'm worried about my grade tbh.
Take Baen!!! He is by far the funniest professor that you will ever have. As an accounting major, his lack of attention to detail bothered me. However, he is someone that cares more about who we become than what we know. Does not test like other professors, but gives tons of extra credit! Every exam is curved 20 points or more. Show up to class!
BAEN!!. He teaches you skills and valuable information that will really help you in life and in your career. He gives great advice on what to do in the Real Estate industry and he gives his own personal insight on how to be successful. His tests are HARD. He doesn't really prepare you for them, so READ THE TEXTBOOK.
By far the best professor at UNT. He teaches so many valuable things for life that no other professor will. He is very experienced and knowledgable about his field. You will never want to miss class. He has priorities as a professor in check. Lecture are fast but he's hilarious. Textbook is cheap. Curves on test are around 20 points. TAKE HIS CLASS
Baen is a cool guy, dont get me wrong his method of teaching is subpar, for example, what constitutes as a lecture in his eyes is him talking about his personal experiences IN real estate rather then reviewing whats going to be on the next test. When taking real estate principles I, be prepared to read, review, and study the book on your own.
Dr. Baen changed EVERYTHING about my college experience. He is the most experienced, intelligent and quirky professor I have ever had. Since my first class with him, I've signed up for every class he teaches even if I didn't need the credit. He literally changed my life and has gone out of his way to ensure my success, even after his course.
The only bad part of this class was all the morons in the GroupMe that didn't come to lecture and then wondered why they were failing. Then, they had the audacity to somehow make it Baens fault. If you're too stupid to do the bare minimum then don't take the class, it's that simple.
Nice guy but tests are ridiculous. 90% of class failed first test... a C was the best grade. Licensed real estate agents failed this exam. His lectures cover NOTHING on exam and expects you to teach yourself. In first exam, there were test questions asking how his teaching is and if we would like our grade curved 80%... would not recommend.
Mr. Baen isn't your regular teacher that just makes sure you learn the curriculum. He will teach you real life lessons and is extremely fun, you won't get the test answers for him but he will teach you valuable skills. The exams are extremely difficult but there are quizlets for them, he curved all our test to a class average of 80. You won't fail.
Baen is the best professor you will ever have! Super inspirational and cares about his students so much, he loves to connect on a personal level and treat you like his clients. The lectures are super valuable and the only advice I have is to prepare for the tests because they are surprisingly difficult, but he curves them all
Professor Baen is titan of the industry, but for someone that has given lectures at Harvard, Cornell, Yale and all over the world his teaching methods are mediocre. Most of the class is spent on talking about past experiences but never materialize into anything about the course. Great man and I love his spirit but he'd be a better guest speaker.
NOT A GOOD TEACHER but a GREAT SPEAKER. RARELY covers course material & meanders on about current events. As a Real major it was helpful but Fina majors will waste their time. Didnt do final project, study or attend class & still passed. Looking to learn? AVOID. Looking for easy grade, good speeches & a kind prof? Hes your guy. Drunk uncle energy.
Great Professor and has great experience. Exams are straightforward if you pay attention in class and ask for help if needed.
This is the kind of professor who can change your life and inspire you to do more than just come to college for a degree, if you have the chance to take Dr. Baen you're extremely lucky, people pay thousands of dollars to have him as a guest speaker so that speaks for itself. You'll learn more real world stuff in his class than ever before.
Awesome speaker. Truly inspirational, but is deathly when it comes to grades and tests. He will teach you how to become rich and successful but could stress you out about your gpa. Which will you sacrifice? Tests are not straightforward lol, cruel questions w answers like ( a, b, c, a&b, b&c, all of the above, none of the above). My A was shocking.
If you have any interest in Real estate Baen is the teacher you want. Some people complain that he rambles in class but his stories are inspirational and full of useful tips. He is the only teacher I had where I made sure to never miss his class. Test arent bad if you go to class, but everything is curved so you will be fine. Seriously, take baen.
Although his class was incredibly easy, I don't think I'm alone in I feeling like I didn't really learn anything. He knows his stuff for sure, but he's awful at actually teaching the material. He spended most classes ranting incoherently about deals, current events and interest rates. Gives ridiculous curves on exams so I guess it doesn't matter?
The material itself is easy, what the professor is known for is for being a real-life example of how real estate is done right. His lectures are very inspirational and I always leave his lectures learning something knew and with a good understanding on current events.
This class was pretty easy. All Professor Baen did was talk about real estate the whole class and his experience with it. Your grade in this class will be based on how well you do on exams. For exams I recommend reading the textbook and study on quizlet.
Uncle John, Baen, Baen in the "a$$" (his words not mine), but never "professor". He didn't just teach class, he taught life long lessons, gave career inspiring words, and was also absolutely hilarious. He treated each student like family, a little bit of tough love and alot of care and encouragement for growth.
RIP, loved this man. Only professor I remembered after 5 years post grad. :( Great soul and was a wonderful professor. Will always be remembered
One project with zero guidance, and a few exams that you never know what to expect on. He's funny and passionate but he just tells stories the whole time. He throws 20 point curves on every exam though, so you'll pass without too much trouble, it's just frustrating.
One of the greatest professors ever. Inspired so many and did a lot for the school and neighboring city. Inspired many in business and in life. May his soul rest in peace.
Professor Baen is inspiring, but his exams are no joke. Stay engaged in class, use Quizlet and unstuck study for test prep, and you'll learn a ton - even if it's a tough A. He really cares about helping students succeed in the real world.
I was a student of Professor John Baen from 2016–2019. His exams were tough, but his real gift was teaching life lessons—preparing us for careers and challenges beyond school. Compassionate, honest, and deeply invested in every student's success.
