He's a cool hippie - pretty easy going & funny. Pretty serious teacher, with a teaching style that makes almost anything interesting. I got a D in his Phys. Anthro class but I still think he's cool (I earned the D). Lots of extra credit possible.
loved the guy! makes class very interesting and has many stories to tell. however, i recommend to study for his tests- just go check out his sample tests on the website- should be fine. very helpful guy- wants you to pull the best grade
He rocked! His class was a breeze...two three page papers every week. our final was AMAZING!! I suggest all who go to mooprak take him as your teacher!
I am currently taking Baker this semester. He makes Anthro very interesting. I don`t want to miss a single class! He is a very laid back teacher, but very serious. He offers several extra credit assign. and study sessions prior to tests.
Quite possibly the best professor I've ever had. Funny, engaging, and very smart. Taking classes from him conviced me to choose Anth. as my major.
great teacher. he makes the class kick back and interesting. the tests are a bit tricky but he gives enough extra credit you will have no worries.
This teacher gives a lot of extra credits. very knowledgable person; he tried to help the students throught the whole semester. Taking a class with him is a special experience.
Very Cool teacher. It is one of the very few teachers who actually make you want to come to class because of the excitment he builds up. He is very straight forward of the info but yet makes it interesting. loved his class.
stud... this guy is the man. very interesting. do ALL ex credit. he is great teacher. if you get peoples old test they are very similar. Take Him
very nice he's funny and pay attention in class
fun teacher, many classes were spent laughing. he knows when to be serious and when a joke is in order. he geniunely wants his students to suceed in life anf in his class. overall great person.
Took him for cultural anthro and physical anthro. Tests are pretty hard, but he gives u some extra credit. Does not take attendance, but expects you to show up. He is currently taking fall of 2004 off, not sure about winter though. Very good teacher.
He was one of the best teachers I have had at moorpark. He was easy to listen to and explained everything. Great discussions. His tests were hard, but he gave a list of essay topics 2 weeks before the test to prepare. Amazing. I got an A.
Such a motivating teacher. He is this hippie, think outside of the box, kind of guy. Very personable and pays attecntion to his students in a way I have never really seen from a professor. His tests are not terribly hard, if you really study the guide...
Okay this guy is totally interesting and really fun. And he's strangely hot, I had a hard time concentrating. Pretty easy class if you go and put forth a little effort
he is awesome. his lectures aren't boring at all. the tests are hard if you don't know the material, so really learn the notes and you'll be ok. he is a teacher you have to have before leaving moorpark.
he is one of the best teachers
John is the best of Moorpark. This class is a blast, but underneath it all, he is still a very serious teacher. The course is not hard, but it's alot of work.
What a babe! Great orator, great personality. HUMBLE. Extra credit. Lectures have nothing to do with what's on the the multiple choice portions of his exams!! So READ that damned book. Well, actually he's writing his own book now, so maybe he'll incorporate some of those lectures...
Fun, doesn't take attendance, never opened my book and I got a solid B.
Greatest teacher ever. Any class taught by Baker is guarenteed to be imfomative and fun!
This man is seriously the best teacher i have ever had..his lectures are engaging, interesting, and it's always a fun positive experience whenever you enter the class...
John Baker is one of the coolest teachers at Moorpark. His lectures are very interesting and he'll give you a cd of the lectures in powerpoint. He doesn't take attendance, but don't miss class and study. If you do that you'll get a good grade. On top of that he's just an awesome teacher.

Amazing teacher, amazing person and not bad to look at! I had a crush all through school and I took all of his classes! ;-)
Best professor you could ask for!
This was seriously one of the best/ most fun classes I have ever taken. John is so interesting, fun, and helpful. He is clear, fun, and offers study groups. I HIGHLY rec. any of his classes!!!
HAAAAAAAHAAAAA this guy is HILLARIOUS! he honestly entertains me everyday and i dont mind going to his class whatsoever. He is not just funny he is a good teacher and not a lot of hw at all just study for ur tests when you happen to have one...take him!
One of the best teachers ever
i would marry this guy if i could. He's an AMAZING proffessor. I only wish I could take physical anthropology OVER and OVER and OVER
Dr. Baker is a great teacher. He is passionate about his subject so he knows how to make it fun and interesting for the class. I really like how he applies what we learn to present day current events. It makes the subject more pertinant.

Great teacher! I absolutely love him. He offers a great deal of info, so be prepared. His tests are challanging, but if you study you'll pass no problem. Every class is enjoyable! He's the greatest ever!
Coolest Teacher ever! he makes you want to pay attention and he is such an interesting person. he is so nice and easy to talk to. he loves telling you stories! hes a hippy at heart
THIS GUY IS AMAZING. awesome prof....i most definatly approve. he actually makes his lecture classes entertaining so you dont fall asleep while taking notes.
Listening to John Baker every Thursday night is a religious experience in and of itself. The most wonderful man I've ever met! Sometimes Im hardly able to pay attention through the pounding of my heart. HE'S BEAUTIFUL! But he's also an endlessly inspiring instructor. Just beware of the HUGE crush that you will have on him and enjoy!
JOHN BAKER. Such a simple all-american name for such a unique and inspiring man. Dr. Baker will make you want to go to school and study hard. I've had him for Phys. Anthro and he even made Mitosis fun so imagine talking about Buddhism, Shamanism, Jesus Christ and psychotropic drugs. This is a great class. Everyone should take it
This guy is the best! we dont even have tests in our class! but that dosen't go for all of his classes.
Amazing teacher and person in general!!! Inspiring and motivating. Also very intelligent, which works for and against you. He's a very hard grader, but offers laods of extra credit, and is always open to helping you. So basically, if you're willing to learn and STUDY YOUR ASS OFF, then take it, it's fun,and you'll learn a lot.
AWESOME CLASS! This was the best teacher i have had at moorpark, i learned so much! amazing class, amazing teacher!
best teacher ive ever had. but to do well you have to go to class and you have to study. other than that he does everything for you. gives you everything you will need to know for every test and is very clear. he knows his stuff and is there for his students always. hes the reason i go to school.
I thought this class would be boring but he made it more fun than i ever thought it could be. He is very helpful and caring for his students and he is really really funny which makes the class more fun. simple: just study and do all the extra credit and you will pass with a good grade(this is coming from a C average student:)
BEST TEACHER EVER! His fun and upbeat personality made me forget all about the occasional workload that we had to complete throughout the semester. I never minded going to his classes every week. TAKE HIM! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!
i was strangly drawn to this man. he made me laugh harder than anyone in my LIFE!i will never forget him he has the most liberal personality. i just reviewed the study guides and enjoyed myself and i got an A! Mr B is the best teacher at MC!
Probably one of the most fun teachers i've ever had. Fun to listen too, lectures are quite entertaining. Tests are extremely difficult though, you will have to study hard.
This teacher made me study my ass off and made me realize you can do anything that you desire. Also he was extremely funny with a simple but knowledgable view on life.
You need to be open minded to take this class. no test, just writing about yourself ( not that hard) Crazy class... crazy activities ( really cool) one of the best professors at mc! Don't like Homework, but like the subject take this class! i'll say it again all the writting is about you!
He is an easy teacher, very chill, you cant help but to be drawn to him, class went by very fast. also very charming
very interesting! awesome teacher!!!
it should be a requirement to take this class with Prof. Baker. It's interesting with an open to anything atomosphere. You write introspective essays, and go to unique places. baker is awesome, and easy on the eyes too. ;-)
He is a very funny, smart, and cool guy.
Wow, best teacher EVER! Study the study guides, they are almost WORD FOR WORD the same as the tests! And you get an answer key! This teacher is so funny and nice and really knows his stuff! Take him! You wont be sorry!!
Excellent professor. He cares about the subject and is highly motivated and interesting. Highly recommeded! Honestly, one of the best professors at Moorpark College.
Baker is hands down the best teacher i have had. I have never looked forward to going to class that was not art so much before. I did find him a bit tough, but it was worth it! He is so into what he is teaching, and knows so much about the subject! Very enthusiastic about his job, and it shows! A+++
best teacher ever, hardest class ever... i studied so much and got a C in the class... you have to do a project at the zoo.. it sucks... hardest class i had at moorpark..hes the funniest teacher ever though.... cusses a lot
Didnt think I would like this subject, esp. since I took his 4 hour class but he kept it interesting the whole way through. Tests are extremely easy; gives you sample tests that are almost exactly the same as real tests! Highly recommeded
He'll change your view on the world. Amazing man, amazing teacher. You have to earn your right to be in this class by doing a lot of work, but the reward is worth it. Take this class...It will change your life (if your open-minded enough).
This class is the one to take if you are interested in Anthro. He is interesting even when the students are boring. Always on the subject one way or another. The class is not any harder than any other science class at Moorpark. HW is just to read and go to the LA zoo once to look at monkeys. Test is easy if you do the reading.
John Baker is probably the only reason ive stuck with school this long. Hes an incredibly nice guy as you can see from all the previous comments. He likes class participation but hes not mean about it. He cracks jokes and really makes everything interesting. If you have the chance to take any of his courses, do it. You"ll love it. Thanks John!!
i had this teacher two years ago when i went to moorpark. i transfered to a different university but i still remember him as one of the best teachers ive ever had.
Quite possibly one of the best professors I have ever had. Not only is he down to earth, but his passion for the subject shows in his lectures. A fun, interesting class. Easy for science majors, a bit difficult for non-science majors. All the same, he is open to help and explain the topics. A fun trip to LA Zoo included in the course.
This guy has a gift for teaching. He keeps you interested in a topic that is not that interesting. Enjoy the class and do the extra credit movies. His test are not the easiest but use all of the study tools he gives you. I would take another class with him anyday!
The class can be difficult as a few have mentioned if you are not a science major. But during the technical biological parts of the class where it can get difficult and boring. He makes the class fun! He is always enthusiastic , Study the practice exams and sample tests! I have never had a teacher that has offered this , BIG HELP!! THANK YOU JOHN!
BEST TEACHER @ MOORPARK COLLEGE, THIS GUY ROCKS ! ! ! WISH ALL TEACHERS WERE LIKE HIM.
John Baker is the best teacher i have ever had in my entire life. He gives your practice exams and about 70 percent of the questions on the practice exams are the ones on the actual test. The nicest guy ever! i dont understand how anyone could get anything less than an A in this class. AMAZZZING TEACHER & AMAZZZZING CLASS
Baker's one of those teachers that has fun at his job&it shows immensely. I took Anth of Religion with him Fall semester&it was a lot of fun. We took field trips&the papers&chapter reviews were easily doable. The class is for any student who actually enjoys learning&Baker is the man to take it with. I look forward to taking another class with him.
Amazing teacher. He is the most understanding, compassionate teacher I have ever met. His lectures are interesting and he can keep his class awake. He is a wonderful man and an awsome teacher. Just study the study guides and sample tests and you will do great!
doesn't take attendance, tests are very similar to practice exams on cd he gives you, very nice/friendly professor, has mandatory zoo field trip (fun!), and interesting subject. Mr. Baker is a great guy very grooooovy man and approachable. Take for Anthro!
Awesome teacher. Best class I've taken so far. He is a lot of fun! If you get within 5 points of the next grade up he will give it to you. I got a 396 and got a B by 2 points!!! Study the CD rom he gives you and the practice tests and you will do fine. I highly recommend this class. Looking forward to taking Anth M011.
Great teacher. One of the best I've ever had. Do yourself a favor and take this class. Not only is the class very interesting but the final is awesome. Mr. Baker is fantastic. He loves what he teaches. He's such a great guy. If you're looking to fill up units, PLEASE take this class. Pretty easy and fun assignments.
GREAT MAN! GREAT MAN! He is honestly the best science teacher ever! I thought that his lectures were interesting. Just show up for each class and study the sample tests and it is possible to get an A. Take him if you need a science class. Very helpful.
awesome teacher. wasn't the best student in highschool and was able to pull off a A in the class. If you are willing to study for the test, and use all the extra help he offers outside of class, it should be an easy A. not to mention baker is the****!!!!
Once again, John Baker has been a fantastic professor. I've taken every possible class with him. Don't get me wrong, it's no easy A. You've got to listen to the lectures, although he doesn't require attendance. Read the book! 3 tests, 1 paper, and films to watch. If you want a cool teacher who knows what he's talking about, take Baker!
Took John for both Biological and Cultural Anthropology. Biological was much easier. He had a power point presentation every day and had practice tests. Cultural Anthro on the other hand was not as organized and was quite boring. He's a groovy teach nonetheless and would recommed him to anyone.
Professor Baker here is just an amazing man! Just a quality guy. He is also a phenomenal teacher. I haven't seen someone lecture in such an entertaining way. He's very enthusiastic and not in an overbearing way. He's very helpful and clear and always funny. Need to take an anthropology class? This is the guy!
His approach was inspiring, thoughtful & compelling. People voluntarily sat in on his courses. He was very easy to approach, and he always seemed to take great joy in teaching. He taught beyond his subject-made learning exciting. He's one of the few professors that I still stay in touch with past university. Any kudos he receives are well-deserved.
Has a great passion for his subject AND for teaching it.
I <3 Dr. Baker
Makes anthropology fascinating and exciting!
He is sooo adorable! I'm in love with Mr. Baker. And he's an awesome teacher.
He is the best professor I've had (and I'm way hot for him). Sample tests and study guides were available for every test, including the final. He also posted test scores online before we met the following week. He drops enthusiastic f-bombs everywhere and is a feminist <3. 350 characters is not enough to express my approval.
Baker is awesome! very enthusiastic about what he teaches, and wants his students to do well. i had a four hour class every wednesday night and managed to sit through it because of his interesting lectures, and hilarious jokes. lectures are very clear and gives study guides for every test.
Awesome professor. The best. So willing to help. Lectures are interesting and he makes learning interesting. Easy class if you attend lectures and do study guide and practice exams.
Absolutely on of the best teachers I've ever had. He's extremely entertaining, easy to learn from, and has really interesting, in depth lectures. He honestly changed my perspective on life. The BEST.
Simply the best professor at Moorpark!
Awesome teacher. Always has someone sitting in on class just for fun. Not like other profs who ramble on about nothing. His witty banter is actually relevant! Very fun class. You need to attend on a regular basis, and I wouldn't call it an easy A. But everything is so easy to understand in his class that it's your own fault if you don't pass.
This is an excellent teacher, open minds are highly encouraged to take his classes
very nice teacher! very helpful and funny. enjoyed his class. i would take him again! have a quiz everyday just read the chapter and you'll be fine. i would HIGHLY suggest to take this teacher one of the best teachers at moorpark!
very funny.and very good at being fair.well rounded and applies what he teaches to real world.plus you get to go to the zoo!and you can watch movies on your own time for extra credit.and the movies for extra credit are actually really good.i began to love this class the more i went. reading is important but interesting so it doesnt feel like work.
Baker is awesome. I already had an interest in anthropology but now i love it even more. his class teaches you to think for yourself. pretty funny guy, lectures are always entertaining!!!!!!!if you need a biological science take this class, even if you dont take anthm01 take another class w/him like anthm11. one of the best professors at Moorpark!!
I love this class, it was a great experience. I took the community learning class ANTH M11 & HIST M20A. John is very passionate about his work and he really makes you think. He is a great guy and it is easy to get an A in his class all you have to do is do your work and you should be fine. He is one of the best teachers and I highly recommend him
John was an amazing teacher who inspired me to continue learning in and outside of the classroom.
One of the best professors ever! i had one of his previous students as a high school science teacher. He told me that baker was the person who inspired him to be a teacher. I know hes right because hes done the same to me.
This was a class I was not looking forward to taking, but this professor made it fun and enjoyable. Tests are mostly short answer and essay- they're not easy, but he posts sample tests online as well as review sheets and the questions are almost identical. Class lecture notes are provided online and the class itself is laid back.
Great instructor. Always keeps it interesting. It can seem like a lot of work sometimes though. There was quite a few writing assignments.
TAKE A CLASS FROM HIM
Wow, where do i even begin? John Baker is absolutely brilliant! His class is so interesting and fun, i was so sad when it ended. 3 tests and a final which is not cumulative. Also a fun zoo project that is worth a 100 points which is mandatory. He offers up to 20 points extra credit. Take him, i promise you will not regret it!
HE IS AWSOME! His learning community with nenagh brown is the best, most fun, most interesting class I have ever taken!! He has inspired me so much, in the field of Anthropology and in life. Take this teacher! You will not regret it.
Dr. Baker is the best teache I have studied under at Moorpark. He is extremely passionate both about his subject and teaching in general, and he really makes you think. I studied harder for this class than I ever have for any other and I got an A; just make sure to do the sample tests before the exam as they are pretty dead on. He taught me much!
You haven't had a great class until you have taken one with Baker. even if anthro is not your subject the life lessons he teaches are worth it. after taking a class anthro will be one of your favorite subjects. you must take a class with this guy. its hard work but well worth it and you actually feel accomplished after the class ends.
you need to write 11 papers on subjects relating to the chapters,a 6 page essay on another book. and a 14 page essay on 2 different religious sites that you will need to go to.This class is a lot harder than I anticipated, I regret that I took it.If you like to write than this is a class for you.Hes not an easy grader though, very specific. :(
It is a privilege to take a class with Baker. Yes, he assigns a lot of writing for his Magic, Witchcraft and Religion class, but I have to say that the writing is a small price to pay to have a professor who is as knowledgeable, witty, compassionate and entertaining as John is. Don't be a lame-o. Take his class.
this class is annoying. he assigned 11 2-pg pprs, a 6 pg ppr on a pntless book, a 14 pg ppr on religious sites. he talks non-stop from the time class starts till it ends. its an easy A if u dont mind writing, since there are no tests. he moves his hands a lot when he talks. this is the kinda stuff u pay attention to because his lectures are so dull
This class is a waste of time. The teacher is pretty chill and he knows what he is talking about. There are no tests but there are like 11 2-page papers that he assigns instead of tests, he takes forever to grade the papers. there is a lot of other papers due as well. no actual need to attend class besides to turn in papers. LOTS OF WRITING!
hes funny and really interesting. definitly recommended. hes awesome and passionate. i have to take anth mo1 next sem & he teaches it. im definitly gonna sign up for his class! the best thing about him is that he really wants u to be interested in anth. he cares about getting us excited about the subj. love him! take the class- hes a sweetheart. <3
REALLY enjoyed this class. Biological Anthro is a tough subject, so the material is pretty demanding but he makes every effort to make you understand and is more than willing to help you if you dont. Very funny relaxed guy and makes a boring subject fun and interesting. Go to class and study for the tests and you will be fine.
He is an awesome lecturer. He makes the subject interesting. However the class is hard. Your grade is based off of 11 2pg papers and two big project papers. And I found the subject to be boring. I wouldn't take the class if the subject sounds boring to you! Or if you want an easy A don't take it. But he is an awesome teacher.
Wonderful professor, wonderful class, wonderful person.
Took his Bio Anthro class, attendance is a must. He makes it fun and he's really good at breaking it down into understandable bits. Tests are hard but it's do-able if you show up to class and do the reading. Gives extra credit opportunities and is available for help when you ask. Really easy going guy, very easy to get along with.
This was the first semester he had an acutal text book (he cowrote it). We were the guinea pigs. No tests, 11 two paged papers, 1 paper on a book, one paper based on 3 religious sites you have to visit. Because there weren't any tests there was no need to take notes which made the lecture boring.
Took him for Biological Anthropology. Fairly easy to get an A, as long as you go to class and complete his study guides. I'd also suggest going to his office before tests, he basically tells you all the stuff you will need to know. Lots of extra credit, and just a really cool person in general
John Baker is AMAZING! He cares a lot about his students, and actually makes you want to come to class, which almost never happens. He very attractive in my opinion, kind of Richard Gere-esque. Hehe.
What can you say about John Baker? Simply, he's awesome. He's one of those "cool" teachers that swears in class and makes you laugh. The material was harder than I thought it would be, the class isn't to be taken lightly. But it's so hard to give him a difficult rating--because he is the MAN.
very good teacher. Makes you want to learn...
He was a pretty groovy teacher, I had a psychedelic time.
I still love Baker even though I got a B in the class. Whyyyyyyy!!!!
hes a good teacher but i swear the first time i heard his voice i thought he was tommy chong
He is the most groovy teacher ever!! Always keeps class interesting and really cares about his students. He is the best teacher I have ever had. I look forward to taking future classes
Best teacher ever! One of his assignments was to go to the zoo, how cool is that!? He makes things so clear it hurts, he constantly moves around keeping you awake and interested. He always gives sample tests and study guides before you start the next section. Honestly you would be hard pressed to find a better teacher, take him NOW!!
don't take the 3 hour night class, so many people dropped it. baker is really cool, but the class is not. he lectures for a few hours, and then the tests ask questions about really specific things from textbook that he wrote. boring, and hard to pass.
Took Biological Anthropology with Dr. Baker. He's a very experienced instructor not to mention very thorough; he posts study guides and sample exams to study from on his class website. There are 4 tests and you get to go to the zoo, so fun! Dr. Baker has a good sense of humor and an interesting perspective on certain issues. Great teacher.
Can't believe I had to read Siddhartha again.HAD I BUT KNOWN.The textbook is dry, overly wordy, hard to read & I'm a strong reader.Loves the sound of his own voice but he's intelligent & interesting so it's ok.Most of what's covered in 3 hours of lecture won't be on the test.Harder to pay attention once you have that realization.Fun but hard class.
John Baker is in the top three of best teachers I've ever taken. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable and passionate on his subject, he manages to tie humor into his lecture. Material isn't too difficult. Print lecture notes and do e.c. and B is guarenteed.
He is an inspiring teacher to look up to! Always positive and makes the class enjoyable. Haven't missed one class yet and don't want to. Offers much extra credit. Study the lecture notes & book and you'll pass the exams. Exams are pretty difficult, so don't be lazy in his class...it really matters.
really really great teacher. loves his subject, and loves teaching it. the tests in the class are difficult and you absolutely need to study. lots of extra credit and he is very willing to work with you if you are willing to work. by far the best teacher ive had at moorpark
Baker is by far the most interesting prof ive ever had!He is very passionate about the subject and passes that on to his students.Take notes and study for the tests and you'll go far. I loved this class and Prof!Definately recommended :) "Groovy"
amazing. take this class. knows his subject inside and out and by the time its over you will too. puts notes, study guides, and practice tests up online. show up. pay attention. = A.
Great teacher! Very enthusiastic and clear on the material. I recommend his Biological Anthropology class!
Baker has to be one of the best teachers I have ever had. He makes a boring subject really interesting and fun. He is passionate about the subject and if you attend class and print the lectures it's not to bad. I recommend him for any Anthropology class!
Baker is one of the greatest people you'll ever know. He's passionate, helpful, and offers tons of extra credit. Everything is also online. I love this man. He's really handsome to me. lol. Super progressive hippie... damnit i love him.
I'm still taking his class, but he's awesome. If you need anth, take him! Not easy, but makes class worth it. EC abounds, lots of hints for tests, sit in front. Down to earth, don't hesitate to ask Qs or just talk; he's cool like that. Grades by points, so average B on tests, do EC, & zoo project right, you'll get an A. Worthy experience!
I've taken 3 classes with him so far. He's probably my favorite teacher ever. He's really smart and will teach you a lot, but makes the tests easy if you pay attention and read the book. Baker is a fantastic human. I can't imagine anybody not liking him. DEFINITELY take anthro of magic in the spring, best class ever.
Prof Baker is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is caring, engaging and passionate about teaching. His class is not easy but if you pay attention and put in a little effort you will get an A. He is more than fair with his grading and gives opportunities for extra credit.
It is impossible to say something bad about this man. He is extraordinarily passionate about his subject, and very knowledgeable (he has a published textbook). His personality will add a color to the class like none-other. A kind-hearted professor, who cares about the world and his fellow humans. Recommended, regardless of major-related interests.
Mr. Baker has to be one of my favorite teachers, ever. I took his Biological Anthropology class in the fall and it was awesome. We're just about done with Anthropology of Magic, Religion, and Witchcraft. BEST CLASS EVER! You must take it next spring (only offered during the spring). He uploads all his lectures online, and he's hott, too!
This is a very great man, his class on the other hand can be slightly boring, you sit down for an hour and 15 minutes every class and listen to him talk about a powerpoint, He is a great help with his office hours but his tests are tricky, this is not a class where you can slack off,you need to do all the work and extra credit to get an A
Great teacher in every aspect. Funny, laid back, and wants everyone to do well.Highly recommended. I wouldn't mind going to class.
BEST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD. Definitely take him if you're considering taking the class! Very helpful and pretty easy as long as you attend class. And class is definitely worth attending! He makes the subject very interesting and keeps you paying attention. I just took my final today and I can honestly say I will miss the class.
Tests are not easy, but he gives you a study guide and a sample exam. A lot of opportunities for extra credit. He loves teaching and is incredibly sexy too :]
Very helpful teacher and gives you a practice exam that helps you do well on the exams. The material is hard but if you get help from him in his office hours, you should do fine on his tests.
This professor was by far the most passionate, energetic, and knowledgeable professor I have ever taken at Moorpark! Class isn't mandatory but to get an A you should go. The tests are both "Multiple Guess" and Short Answer. ALWAYS study with the study guides and sample exams. I bombed the first test and still got an A. Help him and he will help you
Class is extremely interesting and you learn a ton. The study guides and sample exams are really helpful. Overall, Baker is the best professor you will have at Moorpark. He is inspirational and treats you like an adult. This class is highly recommended!!!
John is one of the most intelligent people I have ever met. His class challenges you and at the same time is not unreasonably hard. You will learn a whole lot; he solidified my decision to be an anthro major.
Excellent instructor, i have taken his biological anthro class and not only did i learn something i enjoyed the class. The Magic, witchcraft and religion class is just as fun, a bit more relaxed, however you still learn a lot. There are two group projects and a bug individual project in which you visit various religious sites. great class!!
Probably the best teacher I have had thus far. I looked forward to going to his class. He has a style of teaching that is very different yet very effective. He has a good way of relating to the students. It's a hard class with a lot to learn and he has away of getting it to sink in.
Awesome teacher. So motivated and passionate about the subject. Expect to study and do work, but you will learn a lot and it is pretty easy to get a good grade.
Seriously, one of the greatest professors at MP. He makes class a lot of fun and really helps you to do well on the tests. Easy E.C. points too!
Knows his material and is extremely passionate about it. Attendance is not mandatory but recommended when it comes to the tests. Uses powerpoint & puts them online so you can follow along. Has a few lengthy projects that aren't as hard as they seem Just put a little effort into it you're fine There is no final just an extremely fun party Very chill
John is awesome! Hilarious & smart. Very open & kind when addressing religious beliefs. I had a late start class it went fast & it was tough (for me) but I learned a lot and enjoyed all his lectures. I recommend taking him. He ROCKS :)
Baker is charasmatic and it is addictive. Lectures were good. His textbook is an easy read, dare I say entertaining? Don't fall behind on the readings. Tests are mostly based out of the book. Big or important events/concepts/etc from his lectures find their way onto the tests. I wish the religion project was more detail oriented.
I had no interest in Biological Anthropology to begin with, but John is just amazing. He makes the class so much fun. He is extremely funny and sarcastic. The only downfall is that you MUST read your textbook. He is awesome though.
His class is fun and it goes by fast. If you go to the class and pay attention you will pass. Most of the test questions come from his lectures. Make sure to print out his blank slides that he provides online. I think I used a notepad and the textbook maybe twice. One of his assignments is going to the zoo and its worth as much as a test!
My favorite teacher ever. Also the nicest guy I've ever had the pleasure of being in the same room with. Do yourself a favor and sign up for his class.
1st took him for magic witchcraft & religion and then for bio. he is hands down one of the best teachers i have EVER had, one of those you remember for the rest of your life. SUPER intelligent, genuinely cares about his students. light book use, you can get by on lecture notes but you have to attend. very interesting subj matter for both classes
My Baker experience was kind of disappointing. He's a funny guy, very knowledgeable and passionate too, but I didn't feel he really connected with his students on a very personal level.
By far my favorite teacher at Moorpark. He will give you the answers to the study guides & sample tests if you go to him during office hours, but there will be questions on the test that are not on the study guide. He also offers extra credit. Make sure you study/memorize all handouts and lectures and read the book in order to pass the tests.
This teacher has to be the best teacher on Earth. You can tell he is from the 70's because the way he talks sometimes lol. He makes the class really interesting. He is very smart and is clear about what is being taught. The test can be a bit tough and require studying. No hw atleast. You will use to book and inclass notes for the test. Overallgreat
By far, hands down, THE greatest teacher i have EVER had. Hilarious, sweet, helpful, accommodating. Obscenely intelligent, this guy is seriously a walking encyclopedia. His jokes are adorable. Not to mention the subject matter - this class changed my life. I changed my major to anthro and I can directly 100% attribute that to him.
I took this class a semester ago and loveeddd it. Not only it is easy, it is actually interesting. Mr.Baker keeps everything interesting and adds humor to every part of class. I studied either the day before or the day of and got 90s and over on every test. Tests are part multiple choice and part write in. He gives practice tests which Help ALOT.
Best teacher I have had at Moorpark. He is intelligent and passionate about his subject and makes you want to learn. He could be reading the phonebook and make you want to hear. Hes very funny and helpful. Use your book and do the work. Dont miss a day, they are all loaded with important info. You will love this class. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
This class is SO FUN!!! Baker is a fun teacher who loves making jokes and having a good time. He is quite comical and teaches the material very well with his lectures. If you have questions, he is more than happy to answer them. I highly recommend his class for credit and for a good time.
One of the best teachers I have had, made the class very fun and interesting. I would definitely recommend taking this class.
Best Professor ive had by far, he keeps the lectures really interesting. If you study for his tests and listen to him talk you should do well. He has sample exams and study guides for tests which help a lot.
Great and engaging teacher! Buy the book you will need it. GO TO CLASS. The first section of the class is a bit dry but it gets better as time goes on. He offers extra credit, study guides, practice exams, and office hours. This class isn't easy, Baker wants to see you put in the effort but as long as you TRY you will have no problem.
Such an awesome professor! He's funny, intelligent, and very helpful. He offers extra credit and makes it very possible to get an A even if you're no a science person. I highly recommend taking this class or any other classes he teaches. You won't regret it!!!
One of the best profs at Moorpark! He is a genuine person who loves to teach. He is funny and relates to students easily. Takes test questions from the book that are not covered in class, so reading is a must. The in-class essays are not that hard if you prepare well. He is one of the professors whose class helped shape my worldview.
one of the best professor out there, but also a hard class and fair grading with no favoritism. Lots of work. Would have liked to have known a little more of whaats going to be on the test. He loves to tell stories when he teaches, a very exciting professor who loves to make it fun for all, and very smart too.
I love Baker!! He is super funny, sweet, nice, outgoing and also smart. He knows what he's talking about and the lectures are never boring. He makes it easy and possible to get an A in the course as long as you put in the work. Take Baker if you want to learn and have fun at the same time.
He is honestly the best teach ever! I wish i was a anthro major so that i could have him again!!!!
Hands down favorite teacher of all time. Almost changed my major because of him. Brilliant, hilarious, engaging, fun all around incredible person. Took his classes 3 years ago and I keep in touch with him to this day. Anthro of religion is a change-your-life kind of class, not a get-credits kind of class.
Took him over the summer, and it was probably the best decision I made at Moorpark. He finds a way of teaching that doesn't dumb anything down, but still is able to communicate really well. I highly recommend him.
Great great great bio anthro teacher. Must take him. So helpful and clear. Not boring keeps class interested. Must study for the tests to get a good grade but almost no homework besides some reading and the zoo project where you have to go to the LA Zoo! Fun class!
Hands down, one of the best teachers in Moorpark. He is very clear, makes lectures interesting, and is very helpful. Don't expect to get an A if you don't put time into studying for tests. He provides study guides and if you do those you will pass the tests! No homework other than LA zoo project and offers extra credit. Take him!!
Awesome Professor this is the 2nd class I took with him, he gives tons of EC and a lot of the grade is based on a field trip, he puts lectures and sample exams online and will make you laugh your ass off I'd take another class with him if I could! Take Him!!!
He's a fairly good teacher, although I feel that he wasted some class time and didn't always clearly explain things. His tests are very difficult so make sure to do the sample exams and go to his office hours. Do all available extra credit. Tough class, fair enough teacher. Definitely not "a walk in the park."
LOVED this teacher. If you're going to take this class, you absolutely have to take class with him. He keeps the subject interesting, offers tons of extra credit, and as long as you do your work and read the book, it should be an easy A!
He's a good teacher, but honestly he's a better person than a teacher. He's become sort of overrated at MC, but he's just like any other in most ways. He will inspire you, but he won't prepare you for the exams as much as a student like me would like. The exams are very tough. He's willing to help but I wish he was clearer about what he wants.
he's really not that great. there were times when the tests were completely surprising and didnt even correlate nearly as much as he said they would. he claimed "95% of the final comes from the study guide" SO not true. he's nice, but he's just that. not all that great.
The only reason people say his tests are hard is because they don't study for them. He gives you a study guide&practice exam, personally I took the practice exam&only studied from that. It's important to go to his office hours&have him correct your answers. If you GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS- you have an easy A. He just wants to see you try. I got an A
Took this class fall 2013. the tests are hard and my highest grade was a C. i never read textbook but i did the LA Zoo project and the extra credit and got a B. He is a nice teacher.
For such a highly rated professor, I found his teaching style disappointing. He gives you study guides to prepare, yet only 30% of whats on the study guide is actually on the exam. He essentially expects you to know the chapters on the back of your hand. He's a nice guy, but I wouldn't take him again for anything.
Baker is inspiring! He is enthusiastic and draws you in. He is extremely helpful if you reach out. He has a level of dedication to his students that i just have not found at MP. Read Chapters, Bring the uploaded handouts to class (every class - don't miss one)and attend one of his office hours before every test = A+!! I promise!
Absolutely amazing class! I walked out of it every night in deep thought. Baker is such an interesting and engaging guy, and the magic/witchcraft/religion class is clearly his baby. There wasn't a whole lot of work for this class and it was very self-reflective. This was one of those classes where I would recommend taking it just to learn.
By no means has this been an easy course for me, but I do not regret taking Baker. He is an amazing professor. Hilarious, intelligent and very helpful. Attend his office hours and you go over the entire study guide. It's extremely helpful. He's made Anthro so interesting for me. I definitely recommend this course to any Anthro majors
I took this class in summer and wasnt looking forward to it and then i took it with BAKER. hes amazing so nice and helpful will email you or talk to you whenever and is so willing to help you achieve!! Not a easy A but you can with not a lot of work, READ your book and read over lectures for the tests and essays. I loved his class! TAKE HIM!
Very passionate about the subject. Very opinionated, but without being unfair. Never boring listening to him lecture. Not a simple grade, but as long as you can pay attention, read the book and go to the zoo, you will pass.
Great teacher, extremely passionate! Taking notes is a must to pass! Office hours help so much, definitely improved my grade. Grade is based on 4 tests, zoo project, and some extra credit. Would recommend him but make sure to do and understand study guides, sample exams, and all lectures! He's an awesome guy, extremely caring and funny!
Baker was my favorite teacher by far; I really wish he taught more classes! He's easy going, funny and is very clear on explaining things. I've never sparked such a sudden interest in a subject after taking a class until I took this class with him. I HIGHLY recommend him!
Baker is awesome. I took this class because I needed a Bio science and man was it a good decision. He is really funny and his you only get graded on a few tests and a field trip. Pretty easy to get a good grade and his class is entertaining enough to go to because you want to. 10/10 would take again.
LOVED this class. Came out of it feeling like I knew everything there was to know. Highest of high quality professor. Could not have been a better class.
Professor John Baker is one of the best in the field of Anthropology. The lectures were very well thought out and the use of power point made it easier to follow along with quality note taking. He offers Extra credit if you are willing to follow his directions . Plus John Baker is hilarious . I'd recommend his class to everybody.
John is a great professor and incredibly smart. Teaches a controversial topic in a very respectful way. This class is NOT an easy A, but it is very possible to receive an A if you study. Show up to class! Lectures are interesting and necessary for passing. Offers extra credit! There are 4 exams including the final and one LA Zoo project (very fun)
Dr. Baker is THE hidden gem at MC. your life will be changed forever. He is a wealth of knowledge and such an exquisite lecturer. This class is inspirational! Do not take it if you are looking to goof off. This is serious stuff. Respect the opportunity of this class and cherish it.
Fantastic teacher. Probably one of the best teachers ever. Knows his information. There are 2 papers to be done, one after you read Siddhartha the other after you visit 3 religious sites. The final is basically a "ritual" or pot luck party that the class puts together. Has some guest speakers. Loved it.
John is amazing. He will make you laugh and get you interested in the material he talks about. There are four exams (including final) and they are very difficult. You need to study in order to pass. There is also a mandatory LA Zoo project. You will have to work for a good grade in this class! It is definitely NOT an easy A!
This class changed my life and the way I view the world. I mostly took the class because it sounded fun, however it ended up being my hardest class of the semester. It was enlightening, informative, and is a class I will always remember. I recommend that everyone at Moorpark takes it, and takes it seriously. You may not get the opportunity again!
Mr. Baker. Wow. So many adjectives I could use to describe this man. I took him in Fall 2014 and he was absolutely wonderful. Not only did he teach the subject in a very clear guided manner, but he was also very personable and funny as well. He made the class very entertaining and a fun environment for everyone. I recommend him to anyone.
If you need a science credit, please please please take one of Baker's classes. He's an incredible professor and cares a lot about his students. His lectures are funny and easy to understand, and visit his office hours if you can! He's awesome.
If you go to his office hours and put in the necessary time, you will see how awesome and caring of a teacher professor baker is! love love love him and would recommend him to anybody.
Fantastic teacher! Amazing class! Put in the work and it's an easy A he is willing to help whenever and with whatever! Couldn't think higher of him! He's fantastic
John is hands down the BEST instructor I have ever had! He will inspire you and make you love Anthropology. He's very genuine and he completely commits to his students. I highly recommend taking him!!
One of the best professors I've had at Moorpark. Really clear on what he wants for the test. Do the sample exam, and use the study guide. Go to his office hours for sample exam answers! Also, just a genuinely amazing person inside and out. Will help you if you ask. Very smart and funny.
Awesome teacher. He is very clear on what he expects. He gives sample example exams do these and go to his office hours for answers and you will likely get a good grade. He also lets you do several things for extra credit. You will find his lectures engaging and often times humorous. He is hands down one of the best teachers I have had.
Took a summer class. We had snacks, we had laughs and we had fun. John is a great teacher, and very relaxed. The tests are hard, you need to read the book, but he gave up to 28 percent extra credit every test. Possibly because it was summer, and the tests were extremely hard but he really cares and wants us to do wellDoes push views a little tho
Best Teacher Ever! His lectures are very entertaining and super funny. very helpful. your grade is made of 4 non-cumulative exams and the LA Zoo project. Gives extra credit on tests and for watching movies. Seriously one of the best guys I have ever met
Baker is the definition of the college experience when I think about the kind of professors I want. Everyone should experience a class of his. I would definitely take another class with him if I could. He will make you interested in even the most boring parts of this class. However, it is challenging and he does make you work for your grade.
Easiest A of your life very clear on expectations but I will add this he is incredibly condescending towards students and is beyond any shadow of a doubt the most arrogant professor Ive had at Moorpark you're better off with Messinger
Professor Baker is an amazing teacher! He is very clear during lectures what is going to be on the test and offers study sessions during his office hours everyday. He made my semester. Due to his class, I switched from a Biology Major to an Anthro Major!
Baker is a great teacher and person! If you pay attention in class and do the sample exam (most test questions are the same or similar to the sample exams), it's really easy to get a good grade on the tests. But if you don't study, you will get really bad grades. He gives like 30 points of extra credit for watching movies though. Love this class!
Best. Teacher. At. Moorpark. He is absolutely hilarious, and a truly caring teacher. I wish he could teach all of my subjects. I would audit a class of his for fun.
John Baker is the best teacher I've had. He goes in detail about material & is very clear on what he expects & even says questions that will be on the test (if you're paying attention during is lectures.) Not only is he a great teacher but very great person & the only class I don't get anxiety in. Keep up the good work john you're very ispirational
Love John's class! He's very inspirational and really knows what he's talking about. The class is practically all lecture but he makes it fun and interesting; very easy to stay focused. Would highly recommend!
Baker is literally one of the best teachers I've ever had. Extremely helpful and hella supportive. Theres work and studying required, but he gives you basically everything in the lectures and a bit is in the book. Do yo'self a flavor and take his class.
I LOVE JOHN! 3 He teaches beyond the text!! Four Tests (one essay on each, but he gives you the prompt in a study guide), a few super easy papers (opinion based) and extra credit! everyone who I talked to that has taken him has considered changing their major to ANTHRO because he gets the students that excited about the subject!
He is one of my favorite people I've ever met. I'm not interested in the topic at all, however he made the class super interesting. I enjoyed going to his class and hearing his lectures. He is so funny. Make sure you take notes and do the study guides and practice exams. I hope to take his class again . Take him for sure.
he is the best, my english is not so good but because his class and his exam are stright, i have A... if you work hard and study in his class, you will find its supper interesting and very easy to get A
Mr. Baker was seriously my favorite teacher! He's very interested in the material he teaches which makes you more interested in the subject. He's also super funny and will make you laugh more then once. I would love to take him again for another class, and I probably will.
Awesome professor! His lectures are wildly entertaining and fascinating. The exams are challenging but he will help you if you ask for it. He will even sit outside his office and answer last minute exam questions with a herd of students huddled around him.
one of the best professors i've ever had. Pay attention, which is not hard because of how much fun he makes his classes, and you will get an A.
Professor Baker is by far one of the best professors at Moorpark. He knows anthropology very well and you can tell how passionate he is. There is a mandatory trip to the LA zoo but it's very fun. Just make sure to read, do the sample exams he assigns you, and to go to his office hours because it's very helpful. And he also gives out extra credit.
John's an awesome professor, his tests are hard though. Do all of the practice tests and have a good study group and you should do fine.
Baker is one heck of a guy! Funny, smart, and clever in his lectures about Bio Anthropology! Make sure you study for the tests, do the zoo project and do the extra credit he provides! The etra credit are movies you've probably already seen before, (like contagion) so why not write about it?
He is a very excellent professor and keeps the class super entertaining most of the time. Sometimes his lectures drag on but the information is usually pretty interesting. A lot of test questions come directly from the text book so it's best to buy it. The tests are pretty hard but he puts up study guides and sample exams online! He's very helpful!
You can't have the full Moorpark experience without taking a class from the legendary John Baker. Being a Moorpark veteran for more than 25 years, he not only encompasses encyclopedic knowledge of anthropology, but he is such a genuine, and truly inspirational, liberal minded fellow, always doing his best to make the world a better place.
John Baker is THE man. I would 100% recommend this class to anyone that needs/wants to take it. He is passionate about his work & cares about his students. Do the practice exams, read the book & do the zoo project, you'll get an A.
John Baker is incredible and made me way to come to class. Go to class, take notes, do the study guides and do practice exams: YOU WILL GET AN A.
Amazing teacher. He keeps you engaged during his lectures and is very entertaining. Best teacher I've had at MoorPark college hands down. Only thing to know is that there is no homework so the tests are important and require quite a bit of studying.
Although I didn't pass the class which btw was my fault not his, John was a great person and teacher! He keeps you engaged throughout the whole class. He also teaches Linguistic Anthropology every other semester and also Magic, Witchcraft and Religion every other semester as well.
Dr. Baker is one of those professors you will remember ten years after graduating. He teaches you the subject at hand, but also goes off on tangents about life and tries to inspire students like the Robin Williams character in 'Dead Poets Society' to think and feel and leave this world better than you found it. He's a rare find.
Where do I start with this guy? AMAZING. There's an LA Zoo project as well as 4 exams. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities. His lectures are very in debt and inspirational. Exams are difficult (half multiple choice, half written). He does provide a study guide though, so you should do good as long as you study. I highly recommend!
Baker is phenomenal. He is by far the best professor I've ever had. He explains difficult concepts so effortlessly, he's an extremely knowledgeable person and anyone would be lucky to learn from him. Hes like a real life wizard (anthro wizard).
Baker is one of the best teachers you can take. High recommend. He gives plenty of opportunity to succeed. Sample exams, office hours, good lectures. Pay attention and study a little and you'll succeed while enjoying the class as well. Great great teacher. If you're taking Anthropology, take Baker!
Best teacher I have ever taken. Inspirational and relevant. There is a reason he has a 100% would take again rate. Do yourself a favor and hake his classes.
John is a very inspirational and hilarious teacher. His ANTHMO1 class is pretty easy for the most part but he makes his lectures really boring. So its hard to go to class because you know it will be boring. If you do the sample exams ahead of the time, you will get the A. Nice guy but boring teacher. He offers extra credit as well!
John Baker is the greatest professor I have ever had. He is so passionate about his work. If you are having doubts about taking this class, DON'T. He does grade a bit tougher than typical classes but it's for a good reason. Offers plenty of extra credit and keeps you laughing all semester. You won't regret taking this class. Best class ever!!!
In addition this professor is a tough grader, (but fair), four exams plus a zoo project as well as extra credit make up the grade, he supplies the lecture power point online for you to to refer to in order to study for the exams.
John is super cool and hilarious, but don't take his anthro class is you're not ready to sit through his lectures, they are quite dense. You will definitely need to study for the tests, take advantage of any extra credit he provides.
Baker's class is one where if you pay attention and just do all the stuff he tells you to do you will be very successful, he is an extremely interesting individual and is probably one of the most intelligent people I've encountered. Do all the extra credit, you don't really need to read because he gives you practice tests that are really helpful.
I love Baker! He is very funny and personable, which has led to my success in his class. He relates every lecture to jokes and stories that really grab your attention. Gives sample tests that are very similar to the test! Study those and you're golden. He is a really genuine guy and I'd love to take another class with him. Fave teacher at Moorpark!
He gives a lot of hints about what will be on the test in his stories, examples, and even his jokes. Though the tests can be a bit rough, he gives you a sample exam to study so you're not completely surprised. Overall, I enjoyed the class.
John is honestly the coolest professor at Moorpark. Super passionate about the subject, and makes lectures enjoyable. You will actually have to study to do good on the tests. Also, mandatory Zoo project is fun
Uses profanity more often than he should. Tangents are somewhat helpful. Take notes, because some of the power points don't go into detailed information that you will need for test. He may make you feel dumb when he answers your questions. As if there is an obvious answer. I was not influenced by him in a good way. Not setting a good example.
Really awesome guy. One of the smartest guys I have ever met. Just study for the test and you're good. Offers plenty of extra credit in case you slip up. No homework
BEST TEACHER EVER! His lectures are amazing and hes hilarious. His tests are straight forward and he also gives you a practice exam that you can study off of. He also gives out extra credit too. Easy A
I've taken all of John's classes & gone on to complete graduate degrees social & behavioral sciences. He's still my favorite teacher. His lectures are brilliant & inspirational. He engages his students & guides them through the learning process. His tests are designed to synthesize learning & make it meaningful. Take his classes while at MPK!
Amazing professor, very passionate and funny. Easy to pass if you read the book and pay attention
One of my favorite teachers of all time! Tests are easy- if you read and follow along in lectures. Hes very caring and always willing to help you! Offers extra credit options which really help with your grade!
Professor Baker was great! You're graded on four tests (which are very doable, as long as you thoroughly study the lecture powerpoints, etc.) + a trip to the LA Zoo + extra credit, if you so choose (I didn't have to do any). Also, I highly recommend going to his office hours to help prepare for the tests; he goes over practice tests with students.
Professor Baker is a great professor. He ensures everything is clear before moving on. Definitely do the readings for the exams otherwise they will be hard. Hes funny and makes class fun.
John Baker is the best professor I've ever had. He really cares about whether his students understand the material, and goes out of his way to provide all the tools you need to succeed. However, you need to think on your own. Tests are half short answer questions, so prepare to actually know what you're talking about. Read the text and go to class
After taking a class with John Baker it becomes clear why everyone I know calls him the best professor at Moorpark. On top of being hilarious and a joy to interact with, he is passionate about the material and will do his best to make sure everyone can follow along. Doesn't take roll, but exam grades will rely HEAVILY on what he covers in class.
Gives you practice tests to help with exams. Make sure you study ahead of time. there is a lot of material covered for each exam.
Baker's class is super interesting and pretty easy as long as you study. There are four tests, a zoo assignment, and a lot of opportunities for extra credit. He also posts study guides and practice tests for the exams. If you show up to the lectures, the class is easy.
Baker is a great professor. He is extremely funny, and ensures that all of his students understand the material before moving on. There are only a few grades in the class: four tests, an LA Zoo assignment, and some extra credit if you so choose. John is the best professor at Moorpark hands down and I was there for three years!
Took his class out of necessity, returned for his lectures on my own volition.
One of the funniest and nicest professors I've ever had. You MUST study if you want to pass the tests. He also assigns a self- field trip to the LA zoo and lots of extra credit. Utilize his office hours- it will help tremendously with the tests. Class is lecture heavy as there is NO Homework. Overall a really good and interesting class
Lectures all class & they are extremely boring lectures. Doesnt care if you work full time & youre a full-time student. Mandatory assignment is going to the LA zoo. Tests are hard and he grades extremely hard.
Easy class! John is a fantastic teacher and for anyone trying to take anthropology or clear a GE then I HIGHLY recommend you to take him. He is funny and although his lectures get a bit boring, he cracks a lot of jokes throughout. You are however required to go to the LA zoo and answer some questions but its a fun experience!
Best teacher at Moorpark! Tests are passable if you read and attend lectures with his printed slides. I learned so much and it helped prepare me for my first semester at Pepperdine. Highly recommend, his lectures are fun and he makes the material understandable. Great teacher!
the tests were kinda hard ngl.
I didn't really learn too much about linguistic anthropology from him but you should read the textbook and keep up with notes- the tests do require some effort. Really easy grading, your participation points matter a lot, and the make a language project is fun and easy! And he's a great guy
Tests are what really matter and can be hard but if you know the study guide he puts out well and have asked him about the more difficult questions you'll be fine. John is really sweet and cares a lot about you, one of my favorite professors here.
I just took the first test last week, I would recommend taking the study guide and the practice exam beforehand. I would retake any of his classes if given the chance. He is funny, great professor, and will answer any questions you have. If you need to take a fun class that involves anthro take him!
Hes great although I didnt go to class much. Theres a lot of info on the test so my best advice would be to start studying for the test a few weeks in advance. You dont need to even go to class to pass I got an A and only attended test days. He posts practice tests and studY guides online SO MAKE GOOD USE OF THOSE and youll pass no problem.
He is an awesome professor, he really cares about his students. I would recommend doing the practice tests and using the study guides. I wouldn't miss lectures, he gives you some great hints on what might be on the exams. The LA Zoo project was fun, I would take him again!
Passionate about the subject matter. Enjoyable lectures. Gives lots of chances for extra credit. Wants you to succeed. Funny. Fair. Clear. Once in a while there will be something on a test that wasn't in the study guide, but mostly you know what to expect. I am going to take him again for Linguistic Anthropology because I think he is that good.
John was the most inspirational professor Ive had thus far! He is extremely caring and funny. He inspired me to pursue anthropology. Take his class, he cares for his students and will give great lectures. Tests can be difficult but they are just fine if you study the book, practice test, and attend office hours. Its worth the effort.
Professor Baker was such a wonderful professor, he has a reputation for being one of the best professors at moorpark college and it absolutely is deserved. He has a deep and wonderful knowledge about what he teaches, and he cares so much about it. He connects with students and makes class fun, I really miss going to this class.
Solid teacher, actually cares about students. Attendance isn't mandatory and there is no homework. Do the study guides he gives you, study them, and if you have questions go to his office review hours. Will most likely get a A/B.
What a God
I literally love this man. He is such a great guy and cares about his students and their success and always gives you such good feedback about what you need to know for the test. Take him if you can, youll enjoy him and his class!!!!
John is AMAZING! I took his online summer course (which it was his first time doing) and he made it clear we would learn how to navigate these strange times for schooling together. While the class really is as easy of an A you can get (I held above 100% for the course) he really REALLY likes to talk. It shows how much he cares about his students.
I took his online linguistic anthropology summer class and it was amazing! He really cares about his students and put a lot of effort into adjusting his class to the online format. I would definitely take him again in the future! He gives a lot of amazing lectures and tells a lot of interesting anecdotes.
I love Prof. Baker's class! His lectures are super interesting and he is a great lecturer. The homework is really easy and the quizzes are super easy too as long as you pay attention in class. The textbook is also needed for the class but there is an online free pdf version of it.
He's a great professor he was very nice and genuine during online lectures. He was also very understanding and helpful if we had any questions.
John is an amazing Anthro professor. He made the lessons easy, fun to talk to and a very easy class. His lectures are three hours long so unless you actually enjoy the subject I would not suggest talking his class. I am sure you could pass without going to them but it would not be as easy. Overall one of my favorite professors by far
TAKE THIS TEACHER. Easy A, a great teacher, gives tons of extra credit, and won't ever dock you points if you have a different mindset than other people. Easiest class this semester.
I love this professor! He is great, his lectures are very entertaining too.
Best professor I ever had. Life-changing course. Easy tests and amazing lectures.
John Baker's class involves lectures, reading, quizes and discussion posts. His lectures are 1-2 hours long, but are really easy to listen to because he is so passionate. I found that the lectures did not fully prepare me for the material on tests, so make sure to read the book. There's one easy project and one final. Open notes on all tests.
One of the best professors Ive ever had! He was the nicest and most caring person you could meet and you could tell he was super passionate about what he was teaching. The lectures were always fun, interesting and lively! He loves to crack jokes and is very sarcastic which just made class even more enjoyable! Just remember to study!
this class is absolutely fantastic and he is an amazing professor who knows his stuff and makes it very easy to understand and is clearly passionate about it which makes it so so fun to learn and i think taking a john baker class should be a mandatory requirement and TAKE A CLASS NNNOWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great Professor, gives around 5 quizzes, 5 exams that are timed, and weekly discussion.
This professor provides clear and detailed instructions on how to succeed in his class! Responds to emails quick. Workload consists of 5 exams and quizzes which are open note, a zoo project, and some discussion panels. Very doable in my opinion and the professor makes it interesting. Highly recommend this class!
Professor Baker is a very fun teacher. You learn a lot in his class and you can tell he really likes the subject he is teaching. The workload was manageable and the assignments he gave were creative and fun. He is also an amazing lecturer and very funny.
One of the best and most interesting classes i've ever taken! You can tell Baker is very passionate about what he teaches, and he also has a great sense of humor. He posts about 1 assignment a week, which is very doable and easy. Take his class!
My favorite professor of all time! Genuinely so sweet and caring and showed that he really cares about his students. His lectures were easy to follow and he's super knowledgeable about the field, it's very admirable. Makes learning super fun!
This professor genuinely enjoys the material which he teaches, and his lectures are entertaining. I took his summer class, and it was still just a couple assignments per week. He offers a ton of extra credit, but I still managed to receive an A without participating in any of the extra credit assignments.
If you scroll down Baker's RMP page, you'll notice reviews from 2006 repeating verbatim what people are saying now. This man has taught ~3k different students over 30yrs and still makes a genuine effort to connect with each one; he's the kind of teacher you'll never forget. Generous grader, inspiring lecturer, great humor (groovy!) and so much fun.
i think the zoo project was a waste of time and money and traveling. i think that he should let you pick an animal and write a paper about that animal or do research at home
My dad had a stroke while I was taking John's class so I would sometimes have to miss a day if there was an incident in the ICU. After he ridiculed me for my attendance in front of the class I explained to him my dad was in a coma & he told me life goes on & he stood by what he said. Glad others had a better experience but I'll never forgive that.
COOLEST PROFESSOR AT MOORPARK COLLEGE!!!!! I'm so sad this is his last semester here at Moorpark!!!! He was such a great guy and had the funniest jokers ever!!!! He honestly didn't care if you cared about the material, as long as you're aware of what's going on, you're all good!!! Easy A!!
Professor Baker's class is a must-take! His lectures are engaging, and the workload is manageable. Attendance is required, but the free textbook and resources like unstuckstudy ai make studying a breeze. Def take this class if you can!
Very Very funny and engaging.
Man this guy is just AMAZING. I just know that if my major was anthropology, I would be the luckiest guy ever! I had fun throughout the whole semester. Although this class was an online class and I never got to meet him in person ( I would love to ) but this was high key the most entertaining class I ever had in a year :)
I LOVE JOHN !!! HE IS AWESOME AF, just make sure to ask questions and make sure you get your sample exam looked at !!!
took online class. its all the same baby. copy and paste!! without it, the class is hard.
Prof Baker is v funny and passionate about what he teaches! But BE WARNED this class is VERY READING HEAVY. I took his Linguistics class over the summer and have had to read about 700 pages over his 8 week course (I just counted). Material is very DIFFICULT to understand but also there are lectures. He is a caring prof but MAN THIS CLASS WAS HARD!
Super positive professor. I would 100% take him again, he leaves a fun feedback after each assignment. You need to buy a textbook and every test is based on it.
John Baker is a fantastic professor. Very engaging and keeps you interested in the topics being discussed. Learned a lot from his Anthropology of Magic, Witchcraft, & Religion class as well as his Biological Anthropology class. I highly recommend taking a class with him.
