Well spoken, extremely nice, understanding, great lecturer. Keeps history alive and entertaining. He'll never put anyone under pressure if you don't know the answer to something. Has bad handwriting, but he will give translation services free of charge.

Incredibly friendly and helpful guy. If you want the A, you do have to work for it (the tests come from lectures and out of class online readings). Copius notes to take, but in the end, the hand cramp earns you the grade.

Prof. Ball is a great guy. Very genuine, very friendly and very helpful. Has endles office hours and is readily available. His lectures are long, but not boring. You write many notes and will earn the grade if you read the assignments (not too many) and pay attention in class. Tests are manageable. Grades very fair. The lectures are your review.

He is a very very nice guy. His class requires a lot of note taking, but you will learn the material in return. You get online readings; that are incorporated into discussions and tests. There are no multiple choice questions, and he gives deserving points for each answer, so an "A" & "C" are hard to attain, but a "B" is nearly automatic.

He really likes history and really enjoys talking about it and makes it fun for every one else.

I hate history and i first expected to get C in this course, however i get an A. he grades tests easily. i guess everybody in class get A or B. he's young and cute too ^_^

John Ball was great. My hand still hurts from all of the notes, he is a wealth of information. He is passionate about the topic. He lacks some theological specialties however. His focus on history is social structure, and discusses religion, politics, and military conquests in how they relate socially. Tests are essay, but tangents are acceptable.

Dr. Ball is the best by far. He is very helpful, very nice, and super cool. I took EUH 1000 and we had to do a lot of reading and writing, but it's not that bad depending on who you are. The test are good as long as you take good notes. And trust me, you will be taking ALOT of notes.

Awesome teacher. Could care less about american history but he actually made it interesting. Enthusiastic, passionate teacher who'll keep you engaged. Don't bother with the book cuz it's a waste. Great prof., makes history so interesting! Class is made up of 3 exams and an optional final that is multiple choice. Studying for exams is a MUST(plenty writing and a good memory!!). Also, there are writing assignments due on certain days, but it's easy. Oh and pamphlet readings, which you have to write detailed notes on. I give the class a B.

A very helpful teacher who is always willing to help. He picks parts of history that are actually interesting and easy for anyone (even if you didn't read any assignments) to put in your 2 cents. Doesn't expect you to remember dates. A lot of reading but he explains it all in class anyway. Don't really need the textbook either.

TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT AN A! Daily readings can be very tedious at times, but they're interesting to read. That's basically all the work you need to do. No books needed, extra credit is given to those who haven't missed any class days and that's about it.

This professor is amazing! He made me love history in a total new way. He's sort of weird sometimes, but he is very easy to understand and he is actually really funny. None of his exams are multiple choice, but they are not hard at all. Just notes and listen! So if you want a good history teacher TAKE HIM!

i absolutely loved this teacher! I strongly dislike history, but he really made me enjoy the class. What i learned i actually retained and I really thought was interesting. I typed up my notes every day during class since i write slowly. The tests were almost identical to what i had written in my notes. The reading assignments could get tedious.

If you're going to take a history course, TAKE HIM! I took him for both AMH 1010 and EUH 1001. I absolutely love this guy...I could rave on and on about him...best teacher I've ever had :) There are 3 essay exams, an optional final, 3 projects, and a bunch of readings. If you want to have an enjoyable learning experience, once again...TAKE HIM!!

Dr. Ball was a great teacher, He has writing assignments that are due each class but they only have to be 1/2 page minimum, the assignments tie into his exams which are essay format. Pretty much if you listen to what he talks about and write down his main topics, you will get an A. It's boring, but its the easiest A you'll get in school.

Dr. Ball is a pretty good professor. He generally likes history. He's also very nice. The one page homework assignments are a pain in the you know where, and there is a lot of information to memorize for each exam. However, it is definitely possible to ace this class with Dr. Ball if you give some effort.

Two 5-7pg paper & a wrtn take home final, which can be up there in pg count if done correctly. Lectures were great, and alternated between timelines and reading discussions. Be ready for the "Fantastic! Tell me more." Perfect balance of leading the class while allowing for our own discoveries. Fair grader. Biggest advice: do the readings. Awesome!

I only took this because of the time and because my friends took it. John Ball is hands down the best teacher i have ever had. He's thorough in his lectures, answers any and every question and also adds a comedic twist to keep interest. Yes, the material is sometimes hard and time consuming but overall studying is at a minimum if you take good notes and pay close attention in class. 10/10 .

Dr.Ball is a wonderful professor! I had him for Special Topics Tudor Britain Honors and it was a very tough class. The load of reading and papers is very difficult, however, he is certainly a great professor that enjoys his classes tremendously. I would definitely recommend him even though he is hard.

Amazing professor! Lectures took up all of our class time, but it felt like I was listening to a really good story rather than a lecture. Tests have essays but as long as you can get the basic idea of what happened you do good on the test. The textbooks are small but important, they don't cost too much. Although there was many assignments given, the grading criteria for homework is a bit lenient because of the immense readings used as homework assignments. While work is at the forefront of Dr. Ball's lectures, he makes the class fun with jokes, and he tries to answers most of the questions asked by students. Highly recommended

Dr. Ball's Early Modern England class is very interesting. You will learn a lot about England. The class consist of three essays, one 5 page and one 7-10 page paper. The last is a take home final. The class is mainly discussion so reading the books are essential. The class makes history very cool.

One of the best professors I've had. His classes were heavy reading based on a text book and select works that highlight the course. He spreads out the resources for you to make 2 papers and a take-home final. Class is open forum on the readings. He is very passionate about it and sincerely gave me a better understanding and love for history.

Fantastic professor. Gives engaging lectures with a great personality and is approachable during office hours. The workload is very manageable, with a few readings per week and studying for the tests. Also is very clear on the material that will be covered on the tests. The tests format is mixed- fill the blanks + one section where you select three topics and write a paragraph for each + an essay question. Take notes in class and summarize from the textbook and youll get an A.

Very sweet prof! Online class consisted of reading whatever readings for that week, and then taking a quiz for the selected readings. He posts weekly discussion boards, too, about the readings/ whatever links he includes as well that you have to post to/reply on. There are 3 exams and a final. Ask for extra credit and you shall recieve!

took this class last spring when we had to switch to online halfway thru the semester. Dr. Ball was a great prof, very passionate about american history. This was an honors class so we were only graded on one 15pg essay. RELAX! He helps you the ENTIRE way. Not a history major, but he made me interested in history bc of very interesting discussions.

He is extremely sweet and caring. Class is an easy A if you have the textbook and pay attention. Only one quiz per week (10 questions) and one discussion post per week. Everything is open notes and he is clear what the tests will be on. 4 exams total, 20 questions multiple choice and an essay with each exam. STUDY for exams! do not blow off.

Lots to read. I recommend buying the e-text version of the required textbook (cheaper and easier to search key terms). He drops your lowest exam, quiz, and discussion post which is nice. Everything is open book, but the exams are timed and a little anxiety inducing. Overall, pretty doable. There is also extra credit available.

Absolutely amazing teacher. All teachers should be like him. Seriously, I enjoyed every minute of this class.

I took this class online, he is awesome. If you follow his instructions the class is an easy A. Late assignments are admitted drops lowest grade in each section. In person his is an awesome lecturer very engaging. I recommend taking him 100%

He was an amazing Professor that engaged with me person to person and gave great feedback to the class with our weekly writing assignments. I enjoyed the class so much I took another history course with him!

Mr Ball was great, I had a fully online class with him, lots of work weekly however it's not difficult, if you read you're good, he gives lots of extra credit too, and there are in total 4 exams, the least grade is dropped!.

I enjoyed taking his class, I learned a lot of history taking this class. The chapters were long, but they are interesting. Every week there is a discussion, and an easy quiz. The exams were fairly easy, but you had to write a short essay after the multiple-choice questions. I definitely recommend, he was very understanding.

Professor Ball was super chill. Always responded to questions and it was a really easy class to learn about history in.

I can appreciate a lack of busywork as most of the class engagement is in lectures that really beckons the more active students to participate and ask questions. Professor Ball has my admiration as someone who can flexibly find truth and humor in the details, with plenty of time to go on valuable tangents.

He is amazing I have been trying to get into another one of his classes for a year and all the seats are always taken. His class is really easy, you have to do a lot of reading but for a non lecture based class he makes things interesting.

one multiple choice test and a beefy discussion each week. as long as you put in effort in your discussions you will pass the class. the discussions will be the bulk of your work. there are 3 exams with one essay question each, the final exam being optional. there is A LOT of reading that i just did not do because it was so overwhelming

Great teacher. Gives you everything you need to succeed, I can't wait to take classes with him next semester. The only you should know about is that the exams have an essay, but they're fairly easy and actually helped all of my exam scores. Definitely recommend taking him.

Go in expecting to write the longest research paper of your academic careers up to this point. However, know that he'll be with you every step of the way and that he's preparing you to succeed at a 4-year university. Gives the best history lectures, period.

Professor Ball was amazing!!! Very responsive to emails and very supportive. I really enjoyed his class!!!

A lot of reading and he explains the assignments well. The class is not hard and everything was interesting to read about and it actually made me like history more.

There are 3 exams and one final, each exam has about 150 minutes about 20 multiple choice questions and an essay which he gives feedback on. There are 11 quizzes that go with the 11 discussion boards every week. I found it difficult to keep up with the discussion posts because of of the large amounts of reading you need to do.

Professor Ball is a great professor at HCC. He will go a little heavy on the lectures and can be hard to follow, but he really cares that you understand the history of what's being taught. His assignments are pretty easy, but there are a few of them, mostly quizzes and a couple of tests. I would take him again, and would suggest him to any major.

Great professor. Discussions and quizzes weekly however, they were fun and engaging. Gave feedback and tips but always was kind. I work fulltime and started school part time (this was one of two classes). This class was very easy to navigate and complete assignments. Exams are nice as well. Made history interesting!

Prof. Ball is by far the best professor I have ever had. Gives extra credit and amazing feedback that is always positive. As long as you follow the syllabus you will get an A. It is very hard to do bad in his class, so if you have to take history at all PLEASE take his class

Great teacher, love the class, I took summer class, and it was very fast, as long you read your book and do your homework in time, it will an easy A. Professor very helpful and replied quickly.

Very easy class as long as you read the textbook. Doesn't have live lectures but shares his thoughts through the discussion boards which was very interesting. Exams are pretty straight forward, one essay question and multiple choice that is mainly from chapter quizzes. All open notes!

Professor John is awesome, He responds quickly if I have any questions. I would love to enroll to his class again in the future.

Professor is great - very responsive and supportive. The class has a lot of weekly readings and discussions, but it's manageable with effort. I found Unstuck ai really helpful for preparing the exams and essays.

If you take any history course take him, he responds quickly, is very kind, and is eager to help you love/explore history. Exams are not proctored and all of them are all 21 questions(1 essay at the end) quizzes are all 10 questions and you get multiple attempts. BONUS: there is an extra credit quiz!! You only do discussions, quizzes, and 3 exams.

Mr. Ball is so amazing i took his online class and passed with an A+. He gives discussion boards and quizzes and they are very easy and similar. If you are looking for an easy A with a great teacher choose him! He is very accessible outside of class as well!

Professor Ball was a great teacher I had him for two semesters, he had amazing lectures that got you excited to learn about the topic. There were many types of primary and secondary sources to make you understand what life was like in that time period. He was also good at answering any questions that we had. Overall he was a spectacular teacher.

Class was easy to follow, set aside time to read and you'll be fine. Grading is fair and he responds to emails quickly.

Professor Ball made this course stress-free. He's a good instructor and communicates when to expect grades. Each week is an assigned reading, quiz (10-ish questions), and discussion post. 3 exams and a final (lowest one gets dropped). Quizzes/exams on Canvas, no Honorlock. All modules are open for the semester, so you can work ahead.

Professor Ball is the best professor at HCC. All the students respect him, and he takes the time to teach, to guide, and to inspire. I have learned a great deal from his class, and he is the kind of professor who encourages students to learn more. I am grateful to have been able to take this class.

There is textbook reading and discussions based on given documents, but the discussions aren't bad at all. The only way to get a bad grade is by not doing the assignments. His feedback on assignments is helpful, and you can tell he's passionate about the subject. He's very welcoming and encourages you to reach out if you have questions.

Professor Ball is the best, he wants his students to succeed, he sends weekly announcements to make sure that we are not confused with the upcoming assignments, he is incredibly passionate about his class, and it shows. I will miss this class.
