Good teacher. He incorporates real life examples into his lectures. There are alot of assignments but is very generous in grading. Interesting class
Mr. Bardon is one of the best profs around! He really knows how to teach the material with real life expreiences, loved coming to his class would take it over and over just to sit and hear him! Its great being in his class, you'll learn a lot just by being in class. Very clear and helpful. Recommned him to everyone, great teacher!
I highly recommend Prof. Bardan,he is Great prof.very interesting teaching style, tread everybody equally, nice sense of hummer, no stress.he made it very simple. He is completely different than other professor in his teaching; you fell like he is a friend not professor,no embarrassment. If he teaches other classes I would diffidently take him.
Excellent Proffessor not taht you have a choice to take him or not for this class but when you take it youll enjoy it. Best proffessor ive had in these 2 years
Very very good teacher. Tests are not hard if you go to class...if you dont go he reviews anyways. Plenty of cases to work on with your group, but not hard to make As on all 5 of them. Should be an easy A
Awesome teacher! I recommend taking his class. Show up, participate, and review notes - and you'll have an easy A. He also gives test questions IN CLASS!!! 5 case assignments are assigned, but you can do them in groups. As long as you present that materially professionally - you should do well.
man, If you don't take this class, you will get lucked out. Bring your Fanny to class everyday, and I swear it will be so worth it. I am a person, who never goes to class, but having John Barden in my life changed that. I brought my Fanny to class everyday, without having the desire to skipp. He's understandable, easy to get along with, very helpfu
John, is what everything I imagined good professors to be. When you think about a college course changing your view on the subject matter, this is it. John has raised the bar for what I expect from my professors. I did hear that Spring 2008 will be his last semester with undergrads so I highly advise taking his class whenever you can. Thanks John!!
Prof Barden is HILARIOUS!!! The cases can be a little overwhelming, but his class is great overall.
Very good class. Barden is very loud & interesting!Class will seem hard at 1st, but its really not.GO2 class, tells u what will bon the test thru powerpts. 2 tests & mini group case analysis! Super EASY! Study powerpts and things in class plus DON'T MISS review day & u'll get an A!He is very smart & gives lots of useful knowledge 4 the real world!!
Great teacher. He knows his stuff and keeps the class interesting. He assigns 5 cases to do as a group project and you have to present one of the cases. Easy class. 2 tests.
I LOVED this class! He was very helpful in the exam reviews. Cases are not so bad since you can work in a group. You will definitely enjoy his class. Don't be late and don't wear hats!
This prof is one of the best profs at UTD. He is very involved in SOM which can help you a lot! His tests are easy b/c he gives you a review for both midterm and final. Come to class b/c it is fun and do his cases and its an easy A. Take this prof for AIM 3320!!
Great teacher best teacher i ever had!! He really cares and really helps! Take him you wont regret it!! Highly recommend!!
Amazing Professor. Highly recommended. You don't have to go to class but you'll want to go to class. He keeps it interesting and he's funny. He wants you to make a good grade so he'll work with you.
He is the most awesome teacher at the SOM. He makes the lectures very enjoyable. Just do what he ask of you and you'll do fine.
Funny, but makes the class stressful due to his...intimidating and slightly cruel personality.
I do agree that he's quite funny, but his personality is quite cruel and offending sometimes. While his lecture is above average because due to some sense of humor.
Funny guy, I enjoyed going to class. He doesn't take roll, but if you go to class he knows, and will be willing to help you out more.
His class is one of the best. Good sense of humor that make class interesting. Attendance is not mandatory but he tells you word by word what will be on the test every now and then. If you attend you are more likely to make an A. the cases are ok. do not stress about them too much he just wants u to show something for completion grade. Good guy!
One of the best teacher at UTD. If you want a success in accounting Take this guy. Dr. B Revenue-Expenses=Netincome. rememer for ever.
This guy was awesome. He expalains everything REALLY well, helps you if you need it, and makes everything really clear. I had NO idea about accounting until I took this class, and came out with a full understanding of everything. Its a fun class and the prof. is great! Best teacher I've had.
great guy. very approachable and smokin' hot!
A lot of students says he's a great professor and funny, and he is, but a lot of them over exaggerate about him, and NO is not smokin hot, but a fairly decent looking guy. There are 2 exams, several cases in which you can work in groups. He is very knowledgeable and makes class interesting. And I think he's the only one teaching this course.
Great professor, knows what he's talking about since he has the experience. He's really loud and tends to bang on the walls...so it makes you pay attention. Tests are average but you should DEFINITELY go to the review session since it really helps with the test.
Not as good as others commend. Learn yourself. This course has a lot stuff but he teach a little.
Comes across like he is an "easy" professor but take his exams seriously. He tends to ask questions that surprise you even if you have a great idea about what's on the test. Pay attention because he likes to call on people and learn names of students. He wants his students to learn. Lectures are fun but you can't hide and be shy in this class.
Half time in class he talks some things for fun. You should repare to teach your self. Test is not easy. Read book, do homework, study hard you can get A, if not get B.
This guy is a great professor. He really knows what he is talking about. He connects class with the real world and the class is very helpful. Definitely take his class. My opinion is that he is one of the best teachers at UTD!
he's a good teacher, his class would not be hard if go to class, study, focus on thing that he emphasize in class, but 1 or 2 Question on the test will be tricky. He talks a lot about real life exp and make me to question or why it turns out to be like that. he's a good speaker and has great sense of humor. besides, Barden needs a BMW hahaha =))
Professor Barden is a HORRIBLE professor. For one, he refuses to give A+ grades, which are important for those of us seeking law school. He knows his material, but his test questions can be poorly worded, his English is subpar at best, and his arrogance is quite appalling. He does have a good sense of humor...for most, that is enough. Not for me.
He's an alright professor. Not very good or very bad. A lot of folks like his sense of humor, but his personality doesn't match the grades he gives out. Then again, I am an overachiever and strive to make an A (which I don't think he gives out)
He's a great teacher, and a lot of fun. You definitely need to study for the tests though, as he doesn't go every over every detail that might show up on the test. However, if you study with the book what he tells you to study, you should have no problem. Also, the cases are easy - just make sure to include everything he asks you to include.
The professor is fun and nice, but kind of full of it. He's a good talker, but talks too much. I think he makes stuff up. Exams are M/C, and the extra credit opportunities are ridiculous and make for an easy A. My final grade was 100+, and he still won't give an A+.
Professor Barden's class is really fun. His test are pretty hard so studying with groups are very helpful. His case projects aren't so bad either. Read the books and take GOOD notes!
Everyone has a great time in that class. Talks a lot. Makes you laugh a lot. Great teacher.
everyone thinks he's got a great sense of humor, i think hes full of crap, he does not like to curve or give good grades so your stuck with what u get. Final exam he gives you a review full of usless thats not even on the exam. If you're reading this, i would recommend taking someone else and not waste a time with him and his stupid cases.
Professor is extremely self involved. Spends 90% of the Semester talking about himself and his family instead of focusing on the material. He also likes to pick on students in class that he thinks he can intimidate. I do not recommend him.
Class progressively gets harder so don't slack off towards the end of the semester when you will need that knowledge the most. His HW assignments are extremely vague and the third case had to be done before even the cash flow statements were covered in class. Good lecturer and good person that knows his stuff and likes his students. Tests are hard.
Prof. Barden is very funny in class, and it was a good experience for me. His quizs and cases are very easy, which was a mislead. Beacuase the mid-term and final are NOT. So if you are in his class, make sure that you don't get distracted by his humor or how easy he made them sounds like. To get a A,you need read your book, do the chapter problems.
Professor Barden is a good teacher. His cases are easy. Quizzes and tests are a little hard, but study. If you have trouble with anything go talk to him. He repeats each and every formula tons of times so you remember them. Do his Multiple Choices from all chapters for quizzes and tests and GO TO CLASS! Amazing teacher!
Professor Barden is an awesome teacher. He explains the content very well and is very personable. He makes it easy to learn and understand. Professor Barden is hilarious and keeps the class interesting. I would highly recommend him.
Barden is a good professor that knows what he's teaching. His jokes can be pretty harsh and harmful at times, but i'm sure he doesn't do it on purpose. Class isn't mandatory but really helpful. Study for the exams ahead of time, and quizzes can be done at the end of the semester which gives you a lot of time to do them! not the easiest class
barden is a really nice guy but since he talks a lot and points students out in class, for people who arent too confident, he can create a pretty awkward or uncomfortable situations...although he doesnt mean to. He really cares about his students and if you talk to him he is gonna help you out. class is easy and he explains well bt the exams r hard
He makes fun of people's ethnicity, teach people how to take advantage of others, and cuss periodically. He tries to create credibility by saying that he used to work for PWC, part of ethics committee, and apparently evaluate other professor's salary with dean Pirkul. The exams he writes are worded awkwardly and aimed to confuse his students.
Barden is a great professor. Couldn't ask for anything better than him. Keeps it real and easy to approach. Went to all of his Tuesday, Thursday classes and I have never heard him curse. He is a gentlemen and an excellent professor.
dont rake him. you will regret it. people think hes easy because he is funny but he is mean and realy hard
Barden is a wonderful professor. As he says many times during the semester, if you ask for help he will NOT turn you down. I highly recommend Healthcare Accounting as an elective. Fairly easy class if you have general accounting knowledge. If you attend lectures and do the work there is no reason you shouldn't get an A.
Barden is a really good professor. Those who are giving bad ratings probably got the grade they deserved but didnot want
Barden is a great professor. Tests can be a little tricky. Attendance is not mandatory, but make sure you go to the review sessions.
Online course. Super easy! Just take quizzes and do a group project.
Good professor. Grading is very easy too. Need to give test quizzes and submit a group/individual project. Will definitely recommend it.
Weekly quizzes, no tests. Professor doesn't set very clear guidelines/expectations for the group project. Lectures are helpful, but occasionally I came across a quiz question that was completely foriegn, not sure if these questions came from.
One semester project- being assigned to a group was a mess, apparently a glitch in the online system but he didn't make much effort to resolve. Listening to lectures and reading the textbook are necessary for the weekly quizzes. More than once I came accross a question that was not addressed in the lecture, or the text.
Prof. Barden gives you every opportunity to achieve success. He has an off kilter wit about him, so just prepare yourself to be subjected to it. No hats, no hoodies, no beanies so comb your hair or be revealed. Tests are not easy at all. Study study study. Weekly quizzes. Partner up and get em done. Final is fairly hard if you dont go to class.
Barden is one of the best professors. Great guy super entertaining and very helpful. I don't know how anyone could think his tests are tricky when he gives a review, online quizzes, practice problems, and is incredibly helpful in office hours. Great guy for networking opportunities. Great class.
Barden is a great professor! His exams are tricky, but he works through problems with the class in each unit, so GO TO CLASS!!! Yes, he does "pick on" people but he's not rude or offensive about it. He is very enthusiastic about accounting, which is always good when you aren't excited about the subject at first. Plus he's really funny.
Professor Barden is by far one of my favorite professors. Mainly because he makes sure all students understand the material and is very clear. He provides all the tools necessary to achieve a good grade in his class. He also knows how to makes class very entertaining.
Barden was by far one of my favorite professors this year. He is very professional, prepared, and always enthusiastic. He genuinely enjoys teaching and is a very nice guy! I ran into him in the bathroom once and he actually helped me with some concepts for a different accounting exam that I was about to take! Try and take a small size class for him
Barden was one of my favorite professors this semester! He really cares about the students and wants to help them. He repeats things to make sure everyone understands. The book is used for practice examples but you tech don't need it. I love going to his class he makes it interesting and gives real life examples. His tests are moderate! Best prof.
Very likable professor! He seems to really enjoy teaching his students. His reviews for the test are extensive and descriptive.
NOT AN EASY "A". You definitely have to work for your grade in this class, for tests he focuses on the problems at the end of the chapters so make sure you know them like the back of your hand! He will throw in a random question! There is not enough time for tests and he will get furious if you don't put pencils down when he says to.
Talks a lot about nothing to do with accounting. Yells a lot and picks on people. Says come talk to him if you need anything but he's never available, even during office hours. Says tests are straight forward but admits trying to trick you on them. Don't take him...
It was an enjoyable class. He made it very funny. Repetition is his bread and butter; if you don't like it, sorry. Not going to class will hurt. HE GIVES OUT ANSWERS IN CLASS. Not going to class in general is like paying for a hotel room but sleeping on a bench. He never
The most horrible professor! He makes the tests so hard, it's like he enjoys tricking students. Do NOT make the mistake of taking him, I was a 4.0 student, and just taking him this semester brought down my entire gpa. Sure his class is pretty funny and interesting, but he is no help when he makes the tests, horrible professor!
This class was very difficult. Avoid his class if you love your GPA. Exams are super hard and absolutely impossible to finish. He cares little for his students grades.
Professor Barden was one of the best professor in Accounting program, I have learned a lot from him. His class was not difficult but you still have to work hard to earn an A. Always ask question when you do not understand about the problem!
Content is hard, but Barden makes it fun and easy to understand. One of the best professors at UTD. Take him for sure.
Barden is a great professor! He is so engaging and makes accounting interesting. He made the effort to learn everyone's name in the class. Tests are hard, but if you study the quizzes, do the questions at the end of the chapter, and go to SI sessions, you'll be fine! I will definitely miss having Professor Barden.
He's a great professor! Not an easy A though... must do practice questions and quizzes on time to get a good grade on the exams. DO NOT SKIP THE CLASS BEFORE EXAMS!
exam 1 20 points , exam 2 25 points , exam 3 30 points , quizzes 25 points read his syllabus before you take him. The guy is scary and strict if you come late you have to give him 10 dollars for a donation doesnt give A+ take another professor if you want a good GPA and to come to class late. People like to be challenged at utd. Strict.
Barden is the best! So helpful and so hot!!
Great professor! Definitely cares about his students who show that they care. If you don't care about his class, he has no motivation to help you. Attend every class and do all practice problemsquiz problems over again before the exam.
His lectures focus more on his personal life, and he's funny so students forgive this. However, his exams get harder with time and you have to study on your own. This class is the basis for other Accounting classes in the future. Prepare to be lost in those future classes because you learned nothing from this one.
Barden reads these reviews. Hey Barden, you think you're the best professor in the world, but you're one of the worst! He's very funny and has a great personality. But as a professor and teacher he is the worst!! He goes waaaaay too fast, isn't clear, isn't organized, makes tons of mistakes, talks about irrelevant things in class. Very hard class.
Professor Barden is one of my favorite professors at UTD. He makes sure to learn everyones names and get everyone to participate which helps you learn. He cares about the students and tries his best to repeat the important material to make sure everyone is on the same page. He does a review before the test which is super helpful! Take him!!
Nice, hilarious and loud guy but not a good prof. He will try to apply acct principles to life situations in order to explain them, but it ends up being more confusing ("Joe doesn't like toasts and that's why ABC costing works"). Makes exams very tricky purposely, compensates typo in questions with "extra points", calls people out A LOT. Self-study
Barden is a really funny guy and very nice to his students, however it sometimes gets away from his teaching like many others have said. Hard to complain about it though. Tests are pretty tough.
Tests are the only thing that you have to prepare for. this semester they just started doing the final exam during finals week and it is now cumulative, yuck. Got to go, studying for his final.
If you are an ACCT or related field major take him!! The class is not easy but is acceptable. do not procrastinate!!!!! 3 tests and 9 online quiz's. Would definitely take him again. GREAT PROF!!!!
Barden is a great professor, I actually wanted to go to class to learn-most of the time. His tests are very tough, but if you do have ok attendance in class and study, you'll be fine. I learned a lot, and feel better for having taken the class. I didn't buy the book and I still passed, he posts all the notes you need.
Professor Barden is hands down one of the best professors at Jsom. His exams are really tough but if you do lots of problems from the textbook you should be fine. He made class fun and enjoyable. Definitely take him and DONT SKIP CLASS!
Don't be fooled that it's going to be an easy class bc you just read a chapter and take a quiz on it. Lectures are terrible, with many mistakes, and almost every chapter quiz has a question or two that wasn't addressed in the text or lecture. Very unclear regarding expectations for group project. I wish I had taken this course from someone else.
Barden is one of the best professors I have ever had. His class was very tough and the exams were very difficult especially since I am not a math fan. You can tell that he truly cares about his students and wants you to learn. He is absolutely hilarious and tries to grab your attention while teaching. If I could take every class with him, I would!
One of my favorite teachers, he cares about his students and is willing to give a helping hand. Tests are challenging, but if you do your work and study your butt off, you should be fine.
Great teacher because hes very involved and loves what he does. Only he could make accounting not such a boring class.
Accounting majors, don't take him! He goes off topic so much and makes many mistakes during class. He doesn't take the time to learn his students' names. If you're struggling, go to the ACCT SI sessions instead of him for help. He doesnt really know what hes talking about, and hes not really open to helping students out during his office hours.
Great professor but his exams are impossible. It is not an easy A, he looks like a person who would make his exams easy, but its the complete opposite. His online quizzes are helpful but they are different from others so it is hard to work with your friends.
There are only 2 tests plus the final so make sure you study for each one. The group project takes a bit of time but as long as you do it and follow his instructions your grade won't suffer. Follow the steps he teaches you for completing problems and the tests aren't too bad.
Worst class that I've ever taken. Off topic a lot of times, and when he was on topic he made no sense. Didn't give a clear definition of what he wanted on the group project, and did not grade it fairly. I honestly think that he has no idea what he's talking about. The class was so poorly structured that I thought it was his first semester teaching.
Professor John Barden has easily been the most inspirational teacher that I have had at UTD. His lectures, sense humor, and care for his students cannot not match with any other professor at this University. If you want to learn accounting and have the tools necessary to succeed in the field, then Barden is your guy.
Professor Barden is a great teacher. His inner New Yorker comes out of him often in the form of loud personality and booming voice that fills his lecture hall. He's very knowledgable and is a helpful, passionate guy. Accounting isn't the easiest subject for many, but Barden will teach you the material. An "A" is definitely obtainable if you STUDY!!
Barden is a character. He gets off track sometimes talking about sports and he will call you out, but he's a really good teacher. Class starts off with a bit of lecture and then he goes through many problems in the book. If you do the problems then you will get through the tests. You definitely need to get the book. It's around $30.
do your part of reading ahead and doing practice problems and you'll def get an A. exams can be tricky but you have plenty of time to take them. great professor. quizzes help with the concept as well.
I'm in his honors section. The "case project" was extreamly unclear and he provided little information. Also he was very rude when we kept asking him questions about it. He would add things to the project that weren't on the syllabus and get upset with us when we didn't have them.
Barden is a riot. I signed up for an 8 am class JUST so I could be in his session. He does practice problems in class whenever you go over a new concept to help you learn it. It's really helpful. I highly recommend Professor Barden.
Best professor to have for an early class. I highly recommend Barden because you will never forget him. The exams are tricky, but bearable. If you aren't an accounting major, you won't hear the end of it. He will probably switch to mandatory attendance though. No extra credit also.
Love Barden! His lectures are amazing and made me want to go to class even though attendance is not mandatory. If you go to class, the test will be easy for you. He gives a detailed list of every type of question and they are very similar to the practice ones in class.
Barden a great professor. I wish i could've dedicated more time to the class to get a better grade. A bit intimidating at first but a solid lecturer. Read the class before hand and attend lecture. He tends to pick out students. Textbook is a must have. He assigns practice problems for review and goes over exactly what you need to know for the exams
Lectures were interesting. He runs through the Powerpoints and then does "problem marathons" which are important to the quizzes and exams. The class period before the exams he will go through what exactly to study for, question by question. He has a tendency to call people out across the room. Sometimes will do an attendance check for extra points.
Calls you out during lectures but it forces you to make sure you are paying attention! Very funny and makes sure everyone gets it before moving to next lesson. Didn't purchase the book, went to most classes and passed pretty easily with minimal effort.
Professor Barden is a great accounting professor and really knows his stuff. He makes class entertaining while effectively teaching the material. The tests are really tough, so make sure you know EVERY which way on how to solve a specific problem. Show up every time and you will be rewarded with extra points towards your final grade.
Teaches you what you need to know. No surprises on tests, no tricky assignments. He goes through question by question and tells you what topics the test will be on. You get the grade you work for. He's enthusiastic and likes to make jokes. He won't remember your name unless you do/say something that stands out, and even then it's a tossup.
Professor Barden is an astounding professor with so much experience and background within the healthcare administration that any question you ask him you get an authentic answer. His exam review Is almost the exact same thing to expect on the exam. He is an intriguing professor that teaches in a very fun, and comfortable manner. Dudes fantastic
I did not like this professor.
Random attendance taken over the course period. 12 to be specific. There are two tests, a group project, and two quizzes. He basically tells you what will be on the exam the week of it. Testing center for both tests. Both tests are curved. I should've made a lower grade but i'm pretty sure he helped me. Do your best and he will help you in the end.
With switching over to remote/virtual classes, Professor Barden really does try his best to help the students understand the material. I do understand the material better though with his review videos and I would suggest doing the practice problems from the textbook as it really helps a lot with his tests.
Professor John Barden is excellent. The exams are based on his lectures and homeworks and he will tell you what to expect on the exams. He really cares about you and always respond to your email and questions in time.
He is a great professor. Easy going and fun loving one. At the same time his exams are not at all taxing on other subjects. Recommend you to go for him over any other professor.
