Dr. Barr is a good professor, giving thoughtful feedback and encouraging students to share their thoughts about the semester's books. He drives students to do better with essays in a good way, and each assignment is about learning and improving and making sure you understand. I found this class enjoyable, and would recommend it. Ensure you read. :)
Such a great professor whose willing to help his students in any way he can.
Dr. Barr is amazing, he provides great feedback for all the assignments and truly cares about his students. He is quick to respond to emails (even on the weekend) and offers help to get your grade up, as long as you have been trying. His lectures are great and can keep your attention. Be ready to read and write essays. Overall my favorite professor
In this class it is very important to stay on top of your assignments or you will be behind. Time management is key to be successful in this class. The assignments are fairly simple. The only time consuming thing is the test assigned for the books that you read. Overall, the professor is great. He really cares about each one of his students.
He is a really good teacher but his discussions and tests are lengthy. He tries to help as much as he can. Easy class overall with interesting books which you have to read or you won't do well. Lots of Inquisitives but they're pretty easy, the textbook is helpful and you can buy it online for like $10.
Dr. Barr is a great teacher who really cares for his students. In order to pass, you must keep up with the assignemnts and read the books he requires. He is a tough grader in comparison to other professors, but he provides feedback that will help you get a better score next time. His lectures are interesting and his sarcasm makes the class laugh.
Great professor! Lots of homework and reading, but overall he's a really great guy.
Best Professor EVER!! His assignments are on connect but it is super easy!! I took him for Hist 1301 and I did not realized I had him for 1302 as well but I did not regret at all!! Reply back fast and clarify any question you may have. TAKE HIM
Barr is an amazing professor who knows A LOT on his subject and will do everything to make sure you succeed if you are willing to put work in. That being said, this may not be the class for you if you're looking for an easy grade. Lot's of reading/writing and very long tests. Take this class if you really enjoy history or want to learn.
Dr. Barr was an amazing professor who really cared for all of his students. He was a very fair grader and always took suggestions from students when looking for ways to make his course better. However, you definitely have to put in a LOT of work and time into his class. I took his class online and spent many hours a week working on assignments.
Dr. Barr is simply the best professor I have ever had. His class is a lot of work so don't expect an easy A. If you do the work you will learn to interpret history rather than to know the history. this is the unique part of his class and why I love it so much.
Dr. Barr is a cool professor, but he is VERY heavy on the information. There were several videos posted weekly ranging from 15 min to over an hour. There were minimum of 3 essays per exam and he also assigned 3 additional books aside from the textbook so be ready to read! He does his best to work with you and offers extra credit.
I really enjoyed the class I took with Dr. Barr. The supplemental readings were very interesting and engaging with the rest of the class and Dr. Barr's positive feedback really inspired me to do my best.
Dr. Barr is an excellent teacher, and he always answers any questions that students have. There are three books that students have to read besides the textbook, but these are actually pretty fascinating. Dr. Barr also shares several mandatory videos and lectures, but I found that watching these videos helped me remember the material.
Dr. Barr is an AWESOME professor! I'm taking his HIST 1302 next semester! There's a weekly chapter quiz on Inquizitive, an easy grade, and if you read the three assigned books and do the discussions and exams over them, you're sure to pass this class! He's very clear on what he expects from you, and is a helpful professor. He is a great teacher!
Dr. Barr does expect a level of excellency, but does everything he can to help his students achieve it. You really need to be engaged in the coursework to do well as he is a big fan of detailed essays. It's easy to stay engaged however as the reading material was very interesting and Inquizitive homework tools make it possible to easily score well
Not the toughest class to take, but he does challenge his students to think outside of the box. If you want to learn a lot and feel like you are working towards gaining an education as opposed to an easy A, Dr. Barr is your guy.
Best professor I have ever taken! He cares about and respects his students. He wants to see everyone do well and will meet outside of class if you need extra help or have questions. As long as you do your work and participate, you will do well in his class. I especially recommend him to anyone wanting to take an honors class. He is the best.
Dr. Barr is a phenomenal history professor. He makes history fun by giving you so many different resources and different viewpoints on every topic. You will have to work and read supplemental books but an enriching class. The blueprint for success is spelled out in the syllabus.
I had Dr. Barr for HIST1301 asynchronously through the 3-week mini-semester and I honestly would not have wanted another professor instead. Although there is a lot of reading with the textbook, if you do a bit of homework everyday, you should end up with an easy A in the class as his exams reflect exactly what you read. Take him for HIST1301!!!
I took a 3 week minimester with Dr. Barr. It is a lot of work, basically a chapter a day, plus daily videos. There were also two supplemental books to read. He gives very detailed instructions, and provides great feedback if he feels you could improve. Great interaction with him and the class. Interesting and challenging, worth the effort!
He is a phenomenal teacher who truly does enjoy discussing history with his students. I took his class in the summer and it was quite a breeze for me. He had 15 Inquizitives (guaranteed a 100%), discussion questions, two supplementary book exams (time-consuming, but made and 95% and 97%), and one mid-term and final exam (92% and 96%). Grades quick.
Professor Barr was the best teacher ever he responds to emails and discussion posts right away he provides great feedback, amazing lectures, he is caring and give extra credit assignment he tells you about it at the beginning of the course so you have time to get it done. Get ready to read but it worth it. I enjoy this class.
I took Hist1301 during the summer, 6 weeks, all online. There are 15 InQuizitive quizzes, 2 supplemental book exams, 1 midterm, 1 final, and 4 discussions. It was a lot of work, however if you study using the textbook and read the supplemental books all the assignments will be easier.
Good at his job. I wouldn't take him again because it was a lot of work.
Everything a college-level class should be! Dr. Barr is one of those wonderful people who genuinely want to hear your opinion and learn along with you! Just take the time to do all the work and the Inquisitives. Use your critical thinking skills to discuss topics. Totally worth the time and effort! Take Dr. Barr's class!
This class ended up well for me!!! He has given us three books to read and a textbook online in addition to it. It is so important to highlight the important piece of information on what he is asking you during any quiz or test. If you do that then you will pass. This class will broaden your mind, life, thinking, and perspective. Take this class!!!
Dr. Barr is an amazing history teacher, he really cares about his students and gives really great lectures, the books you need to read are very interesting and, personally, changed my perception of many issues. If you read and do everything that needs to be done, you will get an A.
Outstanding class! The course was very challenging yet rewarding. Dr. Barr provided more than enough material to ensure a successful semester. I appreciated the course material assigned and learned a tremendous amount regarding the United States' history.
Dr.Barr Was one of my favorite professors Ive had so far. There is a lot to keep up with in the class however, If you stay organized you would have to try very hard to fail this class! He actually cared about trying to make the class interesting and posted videos periodically to explain major projects and ALWAYS REPLIED to emails.
Despite the rigorous nature of the course, Dr. Barr is an outstanding professor and is incredibly passionate about his class. I thoroughly enjoyed the supplemental resources, as they helped diversify the focus of the course by adjusting to various learning styles. Overall, Dr. Barr truly cares about his students and will do whatever he can to help.
History Honors: Not many assignments, very discussion-heavy, and book exams are essay questions. Exams are lengthy and take some time. Do not sit on your research project. Very heavy lecture but is an amazing and caring professor. Be sure to talk to him as soon as you have a problem. Overall great semester and would take Dr. Barr again.
Dr. Barr was an amazing history professor. He is very helpful and understanding, and he is very passionate about what he does, making the class even more engaging!
Dr. Barr's class was always a delight and quite literally the highlight of my day. His class creates a learning environment that is both open minded and critical in thought which is something to appreciate. He also provides the class with ample amounts of enjoyable content that can deepen your experience and understanding of history.
Overall I would not take again. The test are very long they luckily do not have to meet a time but, each test took me at minimum 4 hours. Hardly any American History and more so Art History. You will write a lot. I took online and everything was organized oddly. I feel as though he would be a good in person professor.
Best History professor I have ever had! His lectures are super interesting, and he hands out a lot of extra credit. You can tell he is passionate about History. Highly recommend him!
Dr. Barr is an awesome professor! His tests are a bit long, but the content he teaches is very enjoyable. His lectures were always interesting and always had extra credit opportunities. There is a lot of homework/reading, but the content is enjoyable so it is worth it. His class was very fun to be in and always respected students' comments.
Dr. Barr is an amazing professor! Just finished a 3 week mini-mester which consisted of 2 daily inquizitive quizzes (easy 100), 3 discussions ( w/replies to 2 peers), 2 book exams, a mid term, and final exam. Grades fairly easy. Must get textbook and 2 supplemental books. Dr. Barr is responsive and gives great feedback. He wants you to succeed.
I had this professor for 1301 and 1302. Overall he was a great professor he taught the material very well. Get ready to read a lot! In both classes we had 3 textbooks to read and some articles he would ask. He also would get us to watch some documentaries. One thing I have to point out is he does cuss a lot so if you are sensitive please note this.
Dr. Barr is a great professor, but one of two problems was that I read more in his class than for my English class. Additionally, his tests are incredibly long, with him requiring you to write at minimum two essays (average was three) and to provide substantial evidence from the books/videos/textbook to support your answer. Would not take again.
His class feels like the equivalent to two
Dr. Barr is a great guy who cares about your grade just as much as you do. What to expect: 1.) Lots of reading 2.) Heavy discussion posts over books that are read 3.) Tests that tie back to textbooks. If you put in the work, you will be fine
Dr. Barr is the definition of an incredible Professor that loves his students. He always went above and beyond and I've learned so much while in his course. As long as you do the work you will both learn a lot and you'll do great. Thank you Dr. Barr for an incredible semester!
I was occupied a lot and still did well. All work is online, attendance isnt mandatory. What is mandatory, however, is the discussion forums. Miss two and your grade takes a big hit unless you do extra credit. They arent hard, just time consuming. Overall a great professor, provided me extensions when I needed them, and quick to respond to emails.
Professor Barr's class is challenging but rewarding. The lectures are engaging, and there are plenty of opportunities for extra credit. Staying organized and using study resources like Unstuckstudy can help you succeed in this thought-provoking history course.
Dr. Barr is an amazing professor. His lectures are thought-provoking lectures keep you engaged. There's a lot of reading, but you'll learn a lot. He offers extra credit and is always willing to help—but you have to put in the work. Exams are essay-based, but if you show you understand the material and cite the books, you'll do great. Plz take him!
Dr. Barr was one of the most interactive professors I've had. Tons of reading, which was a bit difficult for me to keep up with FT job and other classes, but I learned a ton and interacted with other students and the professor frequently. Only online class I've had where I didn't feel like I was not cared about. He's great!
Dr. Barr is a great professor. I took his science and religion class. He cares about your success. Just show that you genuinely value learning, and you'll do just fine. Listen to his feedback and respect him as a teacher and he'll respect you as a student. He's also very knowledgeable about a lot of things.
one of the toughest classes I've taken, grades super hard, super picky about his writings. I don't recommend if you dont have a lot of time to read. the platform used for hw is stressful and test are super long
I wouldn't recommend this class for a minimester due to the intense amount of reading and assignments that will need to be completed in a short amount of time. However, this class presents a real challenge with the opportunity to truly learn about Pre-Civil War American History. Dr. Barr provides concise feedback and rewards recommended changes.
