Great Teacher, Make sure you take this class sometime while at Kent. It's really informative and cool with live demonstrations, music, and even a planetarium show. Wish there were more teachers like this.
Awesome class! Cool teacher --
Funny guy...made things interesting to learn but exams were too hard and had nothing to do with what he taught.
cheap books for class that he and emmons make, fun class, easy if you keep on it and pay attention.
He's a good teacher, but don't listen to everyone who says the class is an easy A. It's definitely not.
AWESOME
cool guy, good class
everybody said it would be an easy A, but you really do have to study for the exams. awesome class- i learned a ton of interesting things!
Definetely agree - the exams were challanging. If you attended class, though, it was a bit easier. He gave very clear, precise, examples and was available if you needed extra help. A++!
As long as you attented class the class could be handled fairly easily, the study guides also helped a lot. Though the tests could still be challenging.
I had him for both classes. Despite what you hear, the class isn't so easy. He is a great teacher though. The workbooks made for class are very helpful. He's so cool.
Not necessarily an easy A but attainable if you study! If you can, take Emmons instead, Barrick can get too energetic and hard to understand. Overall the class is worthwhile and interesting.
Great professor. He actually enjoys what he's teaching and keeps the class interesting.
The class seems easy, but you need to know the info. The questions of the exams are so messed up, if you dont know the material you wont do good.
He's the most energetic professor I've ever had. Like everyone said, the class is NOT an easy A, but he's pretty thorough with lectures and often times will dismiss class early when the weather's nice. Very funny guy, interesting class.
take emmons instead if you can ~ or you can just go to his class b/c the tests are the same
Well, unlike what just about EVERYONE tells you...This class IS NOT an "Easy A". Barrick is a great teacher and gives good notes, but this man makes you WORK for your grade in the class. There is no such thing as an "Easy" test in this
TAKE EMMONS!!!!! I like Barrick as a person, but...let's just say that he wasn't very helpful when I had questions. Emmons is AWESOME and so nice. If you have to take Barrick, just go to Emmon's class and ask him your questions.
nice guy, ****, but good teacher. Knows his lectures back and forth, basically has them memorized from doing them for so many years. Show up to class and you'll get an A.
an OK prof, but I learned more from the workbook. Study the workbook and you'll do awesome on exams.
He's a firecracker.... Class isn't all that boring... The supplimental notes are pretty much what's on the test, minus the in-class-only material. Fairly easy if you go to class...
Dr. Barrick was one of my favorite teachers at Kent. He was exciting, and funny, and he makes you want to go to class. Also, going to class is the difference between the class being an easy A, and too hard. If you go, you'll get the material, and you won't have to study too hard for the tests.
Great guy and fun teacher, easy class
This class was really great! Barrick was an excellent and very interesting professor. If you show up for class, take good notes, and use the workbook, then it's easy to get an A! The material is really interesting and Barrick presents it really well.
He is a very funny guy. I am usually not that intersted in physics, but he really keeps your attention. I've heard the class was an easy "A", but I don't agree with that, you still need to study and really understand everything, but not necessarily go to class every day.
One of my favorite teachers. I agree that this class is definitely not an easy A, but it is a very fun informative class. The music he plays before class is always sweet. He kinda looks like Danny Partridge.
He's a really fun, quirky guy who understands that most people in the class aren't going to major in science and just want to learn the basics. The experiments he does are awesome and very entertaining. Study the workbook!
Awesome professor. I though this was going to be the most boring class every, but I actually looked forward to it each day.
His personality made me want to go to class, he made class extremely interesting
Awesome Professor...He made me want to go to the class. I enjoyed the class, and he made it very interesting. If you went to class and took the notes and have the workbook, its an easy A. If you dont then it is difficult.
good teacher
best man ever
So simple, plus the teacher WROTE the book, so he def. knows how to teach it! Love this man!!
good guy, makes the material interesting
Amazing and hilarious professor! I studied just the night before each exam and I came out with an A. The final was a lot tougher than anyone thought it'd be so watch out for that. Overall, this class with him teaching is a must for all Kent Staters!
Took this in intersession...Hillarious professor! Makes a lot of funny little side jokes to go along with what he's teaching. Talks really fast but easy to follow. Go to class and take good notes and its an easy A.
He's so funny...makes physics actually interesting enough to learn. Theres tons of opportunity to review and get help and the tests aren't that long or hard.
Funny & entertaining. The only class I actually looked forward to going to.
Wow, one of the better electives I took. Funny, entertaining and makes the class fun. You can tell he deffintly has a passion for the subject and cares about the students success
I'm awful at science. I need more instruction that he gave. He just re-read chapters from the book. I think it would be an easy 'A' for someone who knows a bit more about physics.

Barrick's class is tougher than some people say it is, but he will totally help you out if you need it. All you have to do is ask.
One of the best teachers i've had in my educational career
great teacher, my favorite
great class..awesome teacher..u must goto class and take notes..if u do easy A
Very "Hyper" guy, but still fun and good sense of humor

best teacher in kent. Take this class even if it'll make u stay an extra semester!!
He is crazy! and so much fun. You can't help but listen to everything he says and take it all in. Though the room is dark, it's hard to fall asleep. He's awesome!
easy, easy, easy...and funny to. take both classes to boost your GPA. just go to class read his workbook and its a cake walk, he will make the class the funnest and most interesting one you will ever take
soooooo cool and super easy
Very funny in class, enjoy going to class
he is an awesome teacher. i have always hated science but he makes it interesting and fun. he is energetic and makes some lame jokes, which is great. you cant ask for a better teacher
Class attendance and good note-taking pretty much guaruntee an A. He's funny!
Freaking amazing! He is so funny and so knowledgeable. Great class, great prof
This guy is a riot, dont be a fool...make sure u get this guy on your class list. you wont regret it.
awesome class!
Awesome Class! Great Prof., I recommend it.
Barrick is great! The class is pretty cool, too. Most Physics teachers I've had were monotonous and dull, but this guy is completely opposite. Get him if you can.
Very enthusiastic and good at keeping you interested.
He makes the class fun and keeps it interesting. He does examples which make it easier to remember even boring stuff.
He is a corney, but fun teacher. He explains the material pretty well. If you need help in the class he is more then willing. He cares about getting to know his students and he always let the class out early.
He was awesome! He made the class really fun. Lots of examples and corny joked, but he made it very interesting. Very good teacher.
Funny man - very easy to understand... keeps ya interested, and has some fun random taste in music! :)
easy class
Awesome guy! Classes are really fun and interesting. Music before class is wonderful to have, too.
Awesome teacher. Makes class interesting and obviously loves his job. I would definitely reccomend his 7 ideas class.
He was silly but he went through material too fast and seemed like he wanted to get us out of class as soon as possible without explaining things thoroughly... tests are moderately tough, no extra credit with workbook... I recommend Emmons instead
I am an English major and I love this class!
Awesome. His jokes are hilarious.
This IS NOT a push-over class, however,Barrick gives you all the tools nessicary to get an A in the course. Group reviews are EXTREMELY helpful, supplementary notes allow you to watch and listen in class and not have to frantically scribble down notes, Barrick keeps your attention well. Show up everyday and you'll get an A/B easily!
He is a pretty cool guy. Great lecturer and will keep your attention. Can go a little fast but is easy to follow. Great class, should get an A.
7 ideas,Come to class, go 2 reviews, complete the workbook and you'll get an A liek I did. Barrick is the best prof. I have ever had!!!!!
No matter what your major is you HAVE to take this class. It's so fun. And make sure you get BARRICK, not Emmons. He does all of these awesome experiments in class and he messes around with dry ice and liquid CO2 and stuff like that.
He's a great teacher! He really ties current events and the real world in with what he's teaching. The experiments are pretty cool too.
Makes it relative to everyday life.
AMAZING TEACHER!!! I HIGHLY RECCOMEND HIM! he provides a chapter by chapter workbook that REALLY helps. and you have 3 tests that are super easy if you follow along and go throught the workbook.
Barrick was one of the professors that made me want to come to class. He does all these cool experiments and makes funny (sometimes corny) jokes. He also does attendance/workbook points, so if you're really struggling, attend all the classes and bring your workbook on test days.Plus, he plays cool music at the start of class.I highly recommend him.
Best professor ever. Easiest class, and a really nice and friendly instructor. He'd talk with students about anything before classes and got to know them better than most, if not all other instructors. Highly recommended, helluva teacher
Most memorable prof. I have had at Kent State! He had me wanting to come to class from the first day just to see what experiment he was going to do or what Monty Python clip he was going to play. Very fun and willing to re-explain or elaborate on anything you didn't understand or just wondered about.I took astronomy just to have him again! TAKE HIM
barrick is a riot. i had him at the crack of dawn, and he was always ready with some "choice" music and quirky comments and jokes.
Go to class. His tests are based directly from his lecture notes.
i took 7 ideas with him & emmons, and took astronomy the following semester because i had so much fun! he's quirky and zaney. makes class fun and makes you want to learn. uses real life examples. one word: planetarium!
This was the best science class I ever took at Kent State. You should go to class cause the lectures very important for the exams. Also, all material is relative to the world today.
hilarious. good teacher. love him.
HANDS DOWN BEST TEACHER I'VE HAD AT KENT! he is BOSS! Take this class! you will not regret it! I looked forward in going to class and his exams really weren't hard at all, all you need to do is read the book and complete the workbooks and you'll get an A!
crazy but fun class. i hate science but the class is fairly interesting. clas isnt mandatory ut i suggest going so you'll actually know the material
Hilarious and a bit crazy- in a good way. Delivers all the lecture material while bouncing off the walls. Definitely LOVES the subject he teaches. You will enjoy his class- so go. He'll make fun of people who leave early and the people who he doesn't see most days. Thoroughly enjoyed him.
Best teacher at kent!!! Freaking HILARIOUS
I love him so much! Such a great teacher. Very funny, and extremely knowledgeable. Exams are quite easy if you do the workbook and take notes. He's very personable and quirky, and often plays an "interesting" selection of music before class. One of my favorite teachers of all time.
By far my favorite teacher of all time. Very entertaining! He teaches you at the same time as ammusing you. If anyone is questioning taking any of his classes, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!
He is very funny and cool. His experiments are interesting and very helpful. You don't have to get the real book but a handbook made by the university which is just the notes. Tests aren't bad and every once in a while you get attendance points.
Amazing instructor. I highly recommend taking his 7 Ideas class, and if you like the material, then his Frontiers in Astronomy course.
had to drop the class. only 3 tests make your grade. its stuiped if you fail the first your done, he is a great teacher and is fun and interesting and like to liven up the class
Really interesting, and you learn a lot. Its a difficult course but i couldn't help but be excited everyday i had Barrick. He makes it fun.
Really fun class, and a great teacher, he speaks clearily, but very loudly. He makes jokes, that are a lil corny at times, but he knows it and he's just trying to lighten up the mood.
Both 7-Ideas and Frontiers in Astronomy are a fun class to take under him. Plays music every day before class starts, makes corny jokes but some of them get a chuckle. Keeps the atmosphere light and easy to learn if you pay attention. All notes are in the workbook and test are pretty easy. Highly Recommended
great teacher! a lot of fun and made my class laugh almost every day! have to study material tho, but usually im not good with science and i managed a b so its not impossible!
Attendance extra credit points. I got D's on all of my tests, and he bumped me up to a C. Easy lecture, just not good at science.
7 IDEAS: If you know anything at all about physics (or basic math for that matter) you will be bored to tears. High School education with a $50 price tag for the workbook & notes.
Everything a teacher should be! He's been teaching the same class for probably decades, yet he still manages to be exited, and exiting! What a great teacher!
(7 ideas) This class is a must. Its very easy if you dont miss a class. The workbooks are posted online along with pretests for the exams. Cant miss. Easy A - Given im a CS Major but really its common sense mixed with 5 math problems. Hes funny and they host review sessions for the 3 exams you are graded on. 100 pts total + EC for attendance and HW
He is an awesome professor that really made a subject I'm not a fan of fun. He tells jokes and is very willing to help anyone who is having troubles.
Fun stuff
awesome class. one of my favorites yet. tests were kind of hard but the class itself was very interesting and fun.
Wow one of my fav. classes. Interesting material, lets out early, gets grades back next class, jokes are cheesy and that makes it funny, really happy i took it. Oh and no expensive textbook!!
This dude definately shoots up before each class. He's the most upbeat, hyper, giddy, in-his-own-world guy I've ever met. He definately knows his material. He teaches it in a fun way that's easy to comprehend. He's got a corny ass sense of humor and a hard on for the stars. Just read the short workbook and there is really no need to go to class. A+
This man tries his best to keep things entertaining, and most of the time he succeeds. I had 7 ideas and it was an extremely easy course and he does an excellent job of keeping things clear, he just sometimes gets really boring with his anecdotes. I would definitely recommend.
I don't know why some idiot think barrick "shoots up" before class. This proffessor loves what he does and he's always excited to help you learn. Easy class if you apply yourself.
What an extremely energetic and exceedingly knowledgeable man! I looked forward to his class every afternoon where I feel I gained an incredible understanding of the topic. I strongly suggest his class and guarantee a professor that is unforgettable.
Had Professor Barrick for 7 Ideas, the class was very easy but its important to attend class. I HIGHLY suggest going to the exam reviews, you will definitely get an A if you do. Final Exam was surprisingly challenging, but he really is a great professor and is passionate about what he teaches. Oh and he loves Star Trek.
I had him for Astronomy and he was a pretty good professor. I attended each lecture and still had some trouble on the exams, but I got an A in the class. I'd recommend taking his class if you don't like science; he makes it interesting.
I had trouble initially with the wording on the test. Be that as it may, the prof. was absolutely wonderful. He was more than willing to help you get a good grade. This was such an amazing class.
He is a wonderful instructor. One I will never forget. So quirky.. from the music he plays before class to his sense of humor. Please go to class! He gives lots of info not in the workbooks for the exams.
He was a decent teacher. The course material is beyond easy. If you aren't great at science this is a good class for you (Seven Ideas). He knows a lot about physics but he is able to make it appeal to those who have no idea what the hell science is. I probably should have taken a harder class, but it was an easy A. No reading/homework.
Had him for Seven Ideas; enthusiastic guy. It's an easy course, but don't slack off! If you come to class, complete the workbook, and attend the study session the week before the test, it's practically a guaranteed A. He does tons of demos (planetarium, holograms, etc.), which makes it even more interesting. Definitely a great experience.
good teacher, pretty clear and straight forward about what you need to do to get a high grade in that class, but his tests are not easy tho.
The class was too difficult, and our grade rested only on exams.
He gives extra credits for the workbook and Attendance
If you've had any kind of intro high school physics, this class will be cake. Barrick is an awesome, dorky, outgoing, fun professor. you'll ither love or hate him because of how dorky he is. If you know nothing of physics this class can be challenge but he gives lots of extra credit. I thought the exams were really easy. Definitely a good LER
I never took physics in high school but my friends recommended him and this class. They insisted it was an easy A. Not the case at all. He is horrible at lecturing and I didn't understand even the basic concepts that he assumed we all knew. If your not good at science don't take. I dropped after the second week.
Great teacher, makes class fun. Really wants students to enjoy learning the material. Tests are straightforward and relatively easy if you attend class and do some studying.
very entertaining and helpful
pretty laid back and funny guy. study for the tests and you'll do fine. no bad comments to make, no surprises really.
He is obviously very interested in the topic he teaches, and very engaging. I am not good a Physics at all--never took the class in high school--but as long as I attended class and did the workbook, I got decent grades. He doesn't require attendance, but try not to miss class. His lectures are helpful and interesting.
Had him for Frontiers in Astronomy, he is so enthusiastic about what he teaches. Not a hard class if you attend lectures and actually study.
One of my favorite classes! Awesome teacher, knows his stuff and is very helpful. Explains everything as easy as possible. Exams are not tricky, easy if you go to class, and take notes. A lot of his questions come from the experiments he does in class! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for an elective class!
I had him for 7 Ideas, and he knows what he's talking about and keeps his lectures fun and interesting. His tests are largely modeled after the practice tests which are online. I never had physics, but he made learning the coursework easy, the textbook he and another professor wrote, so it relates perfectly to the class. Do the work, go to class.
Easy class. Great teacher, he is really good at explaining things and making them easy to understand.
MY FAVORITE TEACHER AT KENT STATE, HANDS DOWN, AND I DONT EVEN LIKE SCIENCE. he made the class enjoyable and worth going to. if you go to class, the material will be easy and the exams will be too. He wants every student to succeed as long as you put the time forth. great guy
One of the best professors I have had while at Kent. Great guy you can tell he loves teaching and truly cares about his students. Take astronomy it was awesome
A truly marvelous professor who cares, and isn't above chatting his his students. After taking his "7 Ideas" class I knew I wanted to go on to take his Astronomy course. I only wish there was another class for me to take next semester!
Hands down the best professor I've had at Kent State. I'm definitely not a science person, but he made his "7 ideas" class so interesting because of his passion for the subject and he's hilarious. The whole grade is based on 3 exams though, so if you don't have time to study, this class might be a little hard. But i definitely recommend him!
Prof. Barrick is the most outgoing and fun teacher I've ever had. I had him for 7 Ideas That Shook The Universe. He knows his stuff on the subject very well, and he will help you if you need any assistance. I highly recommend taking his class..... you'll have a blast!
Really enjoyed Seven Ideas with him so much that I signed up for his Frontiers in Astronomy class. Very personable guy and very easy to pay attention to.
Greatest professor I'll probably ever had. I had his Seven Ideas course at 1:10 every MWF and he let us out early just about every day. He always made corny jokes but I loved them. He always had an interesting story or fact to share. I loved him. I wish I was a Physics major just so I could have more classes with him.
Currently have him for Frontiers in Astronomy. He's a very good professor and very knowledgeable on the subject. He ties humor into the subject and keeps the class genuinely interested in it. He does have a tendency to go off on tangents that are somewhat related to the subject, but most teachers do that anyways.
Awesome Professor. As long as you do the work in the (relatively) inexpensive workbook you should get an A. He gives out some extra credit in attendance and the workbook.
Best teacher ever!I'm not a physics person, but he kept it interesting. You really don't have to go to every class if you don't want to,but he's so cool you want to. If you don't go to all the classes, make sure you use the books and don't miss the exams. Also gives a lot of help if you ask.
EXCELLENT TEACHER!!! Very animated and fun. talks to you as an equal, very fair. pay attention, record class and don't miss, you'll do fine.
Of course any physics class is going to have some information that is hard comprehend, but this guy knew how to teach! I learned so much from Barrick. He always made each class interesting and his sense of humor is like no other. By far the best teacher I have ever had and I DEFINITELY recommend him!
Barrick is really entertaining and fun. The class wasn't hard. It's only out of 100 points; ~33 per test. The workbook is extra credit, but you should do it because it helps you learn and the bonus points are a great buffer. I skipped this class all the time and got an A. Definitely recommend.
I LOVED this class! Took 7 Ideas with him and he made me fall in love with the material. He truly makes you appreciate and respect the world we live in. Be sure to attend class, do the workbook (he puts that towards extra credit), and enjoy the beauty of our universe!!! :D
Both friends and my advisor recommended this course to me for two reasons: It was an easy A, and it was fun. It started out as a fun class, but exams were brutal, and we were quizzed on many things we DID not learn. I bombed exams despite hard studying and attending every class. Barrick is a kind & hilarious professor, but the class isn't worth it.
Yes it's true: Mr. Barrick actually is hilarious, and makes jokes w/o effort! He's a lot of fun and a great guy BUT- The course itself only consists of 3 tests. 2 of them are 33 ?'s and the final is 34 ?'s. (Do the math, it = 100(%), which is your overall grade!) The ?'s all seem like trick questions! I barely pulled a B being a straight A student.
Great teacher! Very funny, makes the topics interesting quite easily, and is just an overall nice guy. Definitely recommend taking his 7 Ideas course.
Very helpful and clownish guy
7 ideas- Very fun, energetic, very smart and very helpful Teacher. I didnt do well because I didnt study enough, the class is not hard but you MUST study for the exams. Exams are 33 questions multiple choice with extra credit available. Attendance is not mandatory but trust me you HAVE to go to pass. Do the workbook, go to class, study get an A
I've just recently started his class and thus far he has proven to be the most exciting and interesting professors yet! I already have a keen interest in science but do poorly when it comes to the math but he makes everything less about the math and more about the conceptual knowledge behind the topics. I'd definitely recommend front seat in class.
I would recommend this class for anyone who needs an easy Kent core class. All you really have to do is go to class, take the notes he gives you, and study vocabulary for the tests and your'll pass. Also, he loves to make corny jokes and dance on top of his desk. Highly recommended.
Professor Barrick is one of the greatest guys at Kent. 7 Ideas is not a tough class, go to class and he says everything which will be on an exam. He is quirky which helps the lectures. He is a really nice guy outside of the class room too, I highly recommend everyone take his course.
Unfortunately I had trouble in this class. However, do not let that lead you to believe that 7 Ideas is a hard class for everyone. John is so funny and super nice!! The only complaint I have is that he is more passionate about the subjects than helping his students. Besides that, this is such an interesting class and he is a lovable teacher.
Had him for 7 ideas and despite hating science, I loved his class! Its an easy A unless you don't go to class.
He is a great Kent Core professor. I took 7 Ideas with him this semester and it's a fairly simple class. Just go to class, take note of what he says will be on the exam, and study it. Lectures are entertaining and gives about 6 points extra credit (it goes a long way!). Only has 3 exams, 100 points in total, which I didn't like.
I had him for 7 Ideas, and he was a great professor. I am horrible at science and did really well in this class because he does a good job at putting it to a non science major level!
I had him for 7 Ideas, and he was a great professor. I am horrible at science and did really well in this class because he does a good job at putting it to a non science major level! It is basically physics for dummies
I didn't go to class. When I did, I was googling shark attacks. I SHOULD HAVE GONE TO CLASS. It's elementary-level physics with broad ideas and if you aren't very science-y, you HAVE to show up and pay attention. His class is interesting and he's very funny and interactive, so it's not hard to survive a lecture. STUDY WITH THE WORKBOOK FOR TESTS.
The guy is a great professor. I would recommend him to anyone. Always plays cheesy tunes before class, which is pretty funny. Really loves this subject and he makes it clear and accessible to anyone. Would love to take another class with him again. If you have interest in astronomy you will love him.
I absolutely loved this class. It's purely lecture and the only grades are the three exams over the material. He gives extra credit for the workbook right before each exam and every once in a while randomly for attendance. I highly recommend not skipping any classes. Every lecture is valuable and he covers a lot of material in a short time.
Professor Barrick has been a fantastic professor. I loved every second of his class and easily passed with an A. He has a boyish passion for physics, even at his age, which I find invigorating as well as inspirational. I, myself, am a prospective physics major that also has a passion in the field, but he has definitely helped nurture that passion.
I love Professor Barrick! The class was interesting and fun, as long as you go, take notes and do the workbook activities this class should be an easy A. You do have to study but its nothing too difficult. He gives extra credit for completing the workbook and sometimes he takes random attendance for extra credit that help. I finished with a 108%.
Interesting lectures. You have to buy the lecture notes and workbook (about $40 for the whole thing), but it's worth it. Lecture notes are extremely helpful, and workbook is extra credit on the tests. Not many questions on the tests (all multiple choice, scantron), and not many tests. Just come to class (that's also extra credit sometimes).
He's awesome and hilarious! He randomly gives points to add to your exam grades for attending class which is great. Barrick also uses lots of demos. Just study for the exams!
He is a very kind man, and if you show up to his class he will be willing to help you. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he gives random attendance points so go! I am horrible at science and did average on the tests(which are basically your entire grade, downfall), but the ex credit helps. If you need him, he is more than willing to help too.
I absolutely adore Barrick! His lectures are interesting and funny. He loves physics and astronomy; he really knows what he's talking about. I was scared to take the class because I've heard horror stories about it being hard, but it was one of the easiest classes over ever had. He is always willing to help. Barrick is a very inspirational person.
He makes an effort to make the class entertaining for his students. Most have heard that this is an "easy A," but it is a general Physics course, so if science isn't your thing, it's not that easy. You have to pay attention, but it's a big lecture, so he won't notice if you skip (most do). If you have the option, TAKE IT ONLINE.
Boring. Is passionate about the subject, but not engaging. Does not use Bb, does not give feedback. He could lecture to an empty room and it would mean nothing different to him. Only 3 tests so you need to do well on those, they are the only grades. Lame teacher.
Prof. Barrick is a great teacher, but by no means is this class an "easy A." The subject matter is somewhat difficult, and I went to every class and studied hard, so I did get an A. This is a very fun class and to fulfill a core requirement it is perfect!
Professor Barrick is great! His lectures are easy to follow and sit through, as he shows examples and is hilarious! Do your supplementary notes during the lectures, and you will have no homework! I would definitely recommend for an easy science class!
Overall, probably one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. He's really fun, and tried his best to get you to understand stuff. Sometimes lectures got boring but usually I would look forward to having class with him. Also gives out extra credit for doing homework and also coming to class randomly.
I feel like I am the only person who strongly disliked his class. I am decent at science and found it to be difficult. I would study for the exams and do the workbook and I ended up getting a C. His only grades are 3 exams and like 5 extra credit points from attendance or doing the workbook. His reviews for the exams are pointless.
A great professor who makes the curriculum both fun and interesting. Whether or not you should take the class depends on the type of student you are. If you ever feel any inclination to skip classes, you will not get an A. If you aren't very consistent on exams AND care about your grade, stop reading and forget the course ever existed, simple.
Class seems easy but if you do not have any physics background DO NOT take. no opportunity to raise grade besides for exams. Textbook sucks and so do review days.
great teacher, fun to listen to, and very helpful
Excellent professor. You can tell he's passionate about the subject matter, and he tries his hardest to make lectures interesting and easy to understand. I'm not very good at science so the tests were a little hard for me (and the only grades in this class are tests), but overall it was a great class and I would absolutely take him again.
He came in the first day of class wearing an Einstein costume. He cracks me up. As long as you pay attention and study before tests, you'll be fine. I recommend.
Professor Barrick was absolutely fantastic. I am not inclined when it comes to physics, but he helped me understand things that past teachers have not been able to. If you are a nerd, you'll appreciate all of his Sci-Fi references like I did. He is lecture heavy, and personal interactions with him are a bit awkward, but he is a great teacher!
Tough class. Three exams (including the final), very little extra credit. Class is out of 100 points. There is zero homework. The textbook is only needed because of the workbook (which is used for three extra credit points the entire semester. Attendance wasn't absolutely mandatory, but two classes had attendance for extra credit.
Four tests including the final, no homework. Gives five extra credit points over the course of the semester to help a little bit. The textbook is only needed for the workbook, which is used for some extra credit.
Three tests, a couple extra-credit opportunities. There's a small amount of math (basic algebra), not enough to screw you over if you're bad at math. I haven't taken an algebra class in 10 years but I still got an A. He tries to make lectures interesting. You don't "need" the book but I think it helped a lot. Not an easy A but not super hard.
I really enjoyed his class, he is really funny and makes the class a little more fun. You usually get out early from class and if you are there enough, random attendance points boost your grade. Use both your notes and the textbook to study and you'll be fine!
We only had 3 tests throughout the semester, but if you show up and take notes on the lectures and study, you'll be fine. He is such a funny guy, and he tries to spice up his lectures with jokes.
I took his Frontiers in Astronomy class and absolutely loved it. He's a really funny dude and clear about what's gonna be on the tests. I would definitely take a class with him again!
I personally am not good at science, but Barrick made science easier and more enjoyable for me. There are only 3 tests and a final exam though, so it is important to go to class and study.
He is one of the funniest professors I've ever had! Not only that, his lectures are very easy to understand, and I say this as a person who was terrible at physics in high school. His class is entertaining and he keeps it interesting, and he's a genuinely nice guy who has some insightful points that will help make learning easier. Would recommend.
Hands down best professor I've ever had. 10/10 would recommend. Interesting material, extra credit opportunities, great lectures and notes. Seriously. Take this class. I wish I could take it again. I don't want to say it's an easy A but if you pay attention in class it really is.
Professor Barrick is the best professor I have ever had. He is one of the most passionate people I have ever met, and he wants his students to share that same passion. Therefore, he makes his lectures funny and relatable. I never want to leave his class when it's over. He's an amazing professor. Knowledgeable, professional, funny, great all around.
By nature this is a difficult class as it is all theoretical physics but Prof Barrick makes class very fun and entertaining. Its hard to skip his class cause you're afraid of what you'll miss out on, not in content but in how its presented. He's very passionate and wants everyone else to be too. Very few graded materials so studying is important
Would happily take any class taught by Barrick. It's worth mentioning that your grade is just the 4 exams and some extra credit, but it's not difficult to do well if you attend class, and his lectures are always funny. The textbook is mostly optional, but the workbook covers everything - it's easy to fill in instead of notes and then study from it.
John is very knowledgeable and funny, however, that doesn't necessarily translate into him being an effective teacher. Lecture style class of about 130 students, only grades are 30 point multiple choice exams, could literally be talking to an empty room and he wouldn't teach any differently. Take a different class, or the online version.
Professor Barrick may be the best professor I have ever had, he was truly a joy to have class with. That said, the material is well covered and he does an amazing job explaining things, but the course is not easy. It is test heavy and you have to show up to pass. The only grades are tests essentially over material lectured on in class.
Professor Barrick is a great Physica professor. I took his class, Seven Ideas That Shook The Universe, and I loved it! He only has three exams, no quizzes or homework. His exams are 30-40 multiple choice questions that are very straight forward. He often gives out extra credit points for those present in lecture. Overall, great guy and an easy A.
Very cool and very personable professor. The class, 7 Ideas, was hard because it's based solely on 3 exams. Barrick's lectures are always very fun and entertaining. Offers help and extra credit for those who are truly putting forth effort into the class. 10/10 recommend.
I adore Professor Barrick, he is so cute and funny! He genuinely wants you to learn the material and cares so much about Astronomy. The class definitely isn't easy, it's only a couple of tests that make up your grade. You need to study for the tests if you want to do well. He offers random extra credit for going to class sometimes!
This class is not an easy A by any means. Your grade is based on three exams - including the final - so it can be intense. Barrick is highly entertaining and usually makes it so you want to come to class. Gives extra credit for coming to class and doing the workbook. Tests are very tricky - questions seem to come from nowhere. Make sure you study!!
I had some trouble in his lectures because as he talked he would bounce around and would make things unclear. he is really funny and knows absolutely anything you would need to know on his subject. this class is easier online for sure!
If you took honors or AP physics in high school 70% of this course is review. Just fill in and review the workbook before a test and you'll be fine.
I enjoyed Barrick, but the class is not as easy as it seems. He's very funny and personable, and likes to get to know his students. Tosses jokes into lectures and is really excited about the material, which makes class bearable. Can sometimes jump around, which complicates topics. Tests are hard! Doesn't use blackboard for grading.
