He is awesome. Very easy grading. No tests! Four speeches that he clearly outlines for you. He is young and still understands what it is like to be a student. I would recommend him to anyone!

Currently taking Speech Comm 100 with him and LOVE IT. Makes group work very comfortable and not intimidating. He KNOWS what he's talking about and applies is to every day situations. It also helps that he's young, cute, and tells great stories from his own life. You learn a LOT in his class and come out being a better person & communicator.

Genuine guy who knows every applicable aspect of interpersonal communication. Topics chosen in his class are fun and relatable. He values attendance and hard work, so as long as you are in class for the majority of the semester and do the (very easy) reading you will do great. He offers extra credit and is always willing to do what he can to help

Unbelievably great professor. Works well with students from ALL cultures and backgrounds. A 5 point quiz each week that can be aced if you do the easy and interesting reading. Also 2 essays (APA format) and a midterm and final which he lets you use a "cheat sheet" on a 5x8 notecard. I can not say enough good things about John Bell - he's the best!

First day of class he came across as really serious, but once you get to know him he's really relaxed and understanding. Incorporates lots of teaching methods (lecture, discussion, film, games) and class is never boring. He also tells interesting stories from his own life. He's young and cool. Take him if you want a great comm class.

Really good at explaining theories. Always shows how info in textbook applies to everyday life. He's also very non-judgmental and seems to want the best out of all his students. Take him if you want a great comm class with a chill environment.

SUPER intelligent guy, but teaches in an easy-to-understand way. Makes class enjoyable and you end up WANTING to show up and participate. 2 papers (grades gently on first one, expects more on second one) + other normal quizzes/tests. Highly recommended professor.

Sometimes speech 110 can be pretty dry, though the way he teaches makes it very interesting. He'd always keep you on your feet and used alot of everyday examples to make sure the students really understood. And he has a great sense of humor. I miss that class

I loved this professor! Class was super fun, and he tells you exactly what he wants. If you do it, you will get a good grade. He makes it easy to learn, and easy to get up in front of people. Show up, do your homework (which is pretty minimal, actually), and you'll do great!

Took Comm 100 with him 3 semesters ago and Prof. Bell is still by farrr my favorite professor at OCC. He provides a great atmosphere for learning something that is truly applicable to everyday life. As long as you show up, listen, and attempt to use your brain you should do fine.

Bell is young, so he understands his students. He makes the class very enjoyable and comfortable. I think I walked out of this course more confident. His tests are pretty easy if you listen in on the lectures. You could pass the class without purchasing/reading the book. He seems to prefer (and grades better) for students who speak up.

Professor Bell is great. Easy going, explains the materal in ways that are easy to understand and you can tell he enjoys teaching. Other than the midterm and final there were 2 papers and a few homework assignments but nothing to worry about, it's a great class!

John is the easiest going teacher. You must take his class for SPCH 100. Yes, you have to do work. It is college, but the assignments are not that hard. Class time is very interesting.

Can't say enough good things about this guy. Took his class awhile back and learned so much. Still kept the papers I wrote. Definitely pushes you to do your best. Take him if you enjoy connecting with your professors rather than being a nameless/faceless student.

He is a GREAT professor! I loved going to his class, and even though attendance is mandatory you will find yourself actually wanting to go. There are only 2 essays, 5 homework assignments, and a midterm & final. The way he teaches really captivates you, and he has great stories. He is very nice & has great sense of humor!BEST CLASS EVER.

i took an interpersonal comm. class for general ed & i'm so glad i did. He's seriously such a good teacher. Keeps everything extremely clear and uses lots of examples to help make things relatable. easy A if you take good notes skim the book and just show up.

What i loved about John is that he actually remembers your name.I always looked forward to going to this class because of the class discussions! John is pretty straight forward, the assignments are simple, and you can get an A in the class as long as you keep up with the reading and take good class notes. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

John was a very respectable and respectful guy. He is clear about what he wants from you, and makes class discussions interesting and comfortable. I highly recommend taking him because I learned quite a bit about myself and those around me.

Easy five question quiz every week. I LOVEEEE his stories, every single one of them! An amazing educator and an amazing person. He's very chill, funny and down to earth. Fun to participate. I hope he doesn't get tired of telling his stories to his students. His class asks for little effort and you'll learn a ton in return.

The class feels more like a group therapy session and John is the coolest mediator. 10 easy quizzes, a paper, couple easy homework assignments, and 2 tests revolved on textbook. John is the best teacher. Teaches you not just about interpersonal communication, but also about life.

John Bell is one of the best professor I had for Fall 2015. He is HILARIOUS, and his stories are pretty interesting and funny. You should try and participate or else he will call on you. His quizzes are easy, and he lets you use an index card on the 2 tests. Overall, best prof and great class. Also, you can text him if you ever need help

JOHN! Love this guy. He really does care about each of his students and wants everyone to succeed. He shares lots of cool stories and motivates you to do well in life. Class felt long at times but that's just how the subject matter is. Brush the book, take advantage of what he offers and pass.

One of my favorite professors at occ! He genuinely cares about his students and doesn't make you do busy work. He keeps lectures super interesting just make sure that you participate. I strongly encourage anyone and everyone to take his class. I hate speaking in public for anything and he made it so comfortable to be able to raise my hand and voice my opinions. The way he presents his lectures makes them so interesting too. He also takes his time to get to know everyone and is so reasonable with homework, grades, tests, etc.

Participation matters ALOT, show up to class and contribute to your class discussions.

Took the introductory interpersonal communication class. GREAT CLASS TO TAKE AS LONG AS IT IS WITH BELL. You don't need the textbook to get an A, but to get an A+ you do (so really, you don't need it). John makes the course super relevant to your own personal life which creates alot of interest from the class as a whole. NOTE: YOU NEED TO SHOW UP.

John Bell is the best! Probably my favorite professor I've had because he makes class so fun and really cares about his students. Its pretty easy to get an A as long as you just pay attention, but that isn't hard since his lectures are super interesting!

Fun class to be in! He's extremely nice & class is always an open discussion. The more you participate the more fun class is! DO. GOOD. ON. THE. QUIZZES. 2 papers, the first paper is a bit tricky with his grammar rules but if you're a strong writer you should be able to get an A. only problem is he slacks BIG time on the grading.

John is by far one of my favorite professors. He is up to date and makes the class enjoyable. He gets the class involved in a way that makes shy people want to get involved. The grading criteria is straight forward. Quizzes every week and two essays that he breaks down for you. He gives you an amazing study guide to pass the exams. Best prof ever!

I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR. I took Interpersonal Communication from him. Not much homework is usually given and you could tell how much he loves his job teaching Communication Studies. The only cons (in my book) is there is alot of group work. Overall, this class is fun. I would definitely take it again if I could :)

Prof. Bell is an absolute gem. I needed to take a comm class for GE req. and he made the class so interesting and applicable. He is a great professor that really cares about his students and wants you to learn something to apply to your life, not just for a grade. Fantastic professor, super chill and kind. He presents the subject matter in a really interesting and easy-to-understand way. 1 weekly quiz and some weekly homework as well as 2 papers, but it's overall really easy and you learn a lot. I took him for another class and honestly hes one of the best professors Ive ever had. Very down to earth and understanding with everything that went down during COVID. There is usually there was a quiz every week, 2 tests and 2 papers. Make sure you participate! Ive learned a lot from him.

One of my favorite professors I took at OCC for sure! He really enjoys his job and makes sure that his students are heard. Most of the time we were either talking about every day to day conversations. We did have weekly chapter quizzes and 2 exams throughout the semester. John was pretty chill and lenient with the workload. too.

I absolutely loved his class. His class helped me become more self-aware. If you're looking to learn and get a good grade, I definitely recommend taking him.

Bell is really good at getting students to open up. I felt like I got to know my peers more than I did in any other Zoom class, and this is because Bell is an excellent communicator. On the first day of class, he said "Stop caring so much about what other people think of you; they're not going to pay your bills." I liked that advice.

Take this teacher!! He will change your worldview like he absolutely did for me! I came out of his class everyday learning something new and interesting that I didn't before, and he really did an excellent job at getting someone as shy and introverted as me to open up in class! There are 2 shares that you'll have to worry about, but they're easy :)

Professor Bell was AMAZING! I took his class during summer and he made it so enjoyable to be there for 5 hours twice a week. Most of the class was discussions, lectures, and activities to keep us engaged. All the topics we covered were interesting and relatable to our lives. He offers lots of EC. I 100% recommend taking his class.

I really enjoyed this class; the Intercultural Communication class makes you really want to connect with people from different cultures and backgrounds. A quiz on each chapter every Monday, only two exams, and HW weekly basis. Do the reading, great lectures. EASY A if you study + pay attention. I recommend this class.

His lectures were interesting and his exams are not too difficult. If you read the material and do his study guides, you will pass the exams. He also post notes online so if you put just a little bit of effort into his class you're guaranteed an easy A.

Our class lucked out in the learning environment, comfort, humor, etc. Group activities and casual, enthusiastic class discussions dominated this class. Homework was very manageable. He was funny, genuinely cared for students success and purpose, and passionate about communications. He always kept it real, kept expectations high. Study for tests!

John was a great professor to have. He truly cares about what he does, which shows in his teaching. There is a lot of group work & 2 very casual presentations you have to do, but they are easy if you do them early. You'll get the full points no matter what if you present. Tests and quizzes & are easy. Just get comfortable with talking to others.

He also makes a point to get to know each of his students and that you get to know your classmates. The work load is easy, but I recommend you take good notes and study for the midterm and final. The most insightful and caring professor I have met throughout my whole college career. He really understands the issues of prejudice and bigotry and wants to share his own experiences through education. Lectures are thought out really well and interactive through group discussions. He really cares,is understanding and clear about his instructions.

I cannot sing the praises of John Bell enough! I took his Interpersonal Comm and Intercultural classes and they were both delightful and encouraged critical thinking. There are no online discussion posts, but get ready to participate in lecture/group discussions. Homework is super easy and expectations are clear and EASY. Well worth your time.
