Great professor, wish all my professor were like him. Great lectures that were pretty interesting, very clear on the grading and tests are fairly easy if you memorize your lecture notes, he also gave out helpful handouts.

This guy should be the poster child for all instructors to immulate!He's interesting and will give you a break if needed! One of the few classes that I have really honestly enjoyed! Also, Natural Disasters of Ohio is a great 1 credit class for summer!

He is a very easy teacher. Questions on tests come right off of notes in class. Funny too.

Could have been the easiest class I've taken in college, but I did learn stuff. He just makes it very clear what will be on the test, and passes out handouts to study. Perfect science class to take.

Mr. Beltz is one of the best professors I've had. I purposely signed up to take Physical Geology with him also. He is very funny and makes things easy. I HIGHLY recommend him!!!

Pretty easy class; 4 exams, a few one day group activities, and open note quizzes every Friday. Final was optional; replaced an exam score, and easy -- 60 m/c questions straight off other 4 exams. Beltz is a nice guy, amusing, understands not everyone in class is a future oceanographer but class still unclear at times. Interesting.

Very easy class, he made geology more exciting than I thought it could be. 4 tests, exam optional, group exercises, and open note quizzes every friday. Don't buy the book because you definitely won't need it. You would have to be in a coma not to pass this class. Very nice guy!

Great teacher, I had him for environmental geology. He was really into what he was teaching and knew a lot about the material. Study your notes and you'll do good on the tests. Read the chapters in the book and you'll do great.

Easy Prof. Take notes all class

A really easy teacher as long as you study the notes he gives you. Also, he tells you at the beginning of the year that you don't need the textbook; I sold mine back and still got an A. Also, he has a bit of a sense of humor at times which is nice.

This man is amazing. The class was so easy that I didn't have to worry about my grade, and could actually focus on learning what interested me. I never even bought the book, and got an A without taking the final. And he wears a blue shirt every day! It's just kinda fun. Also the nicest guy you could ever hope to have as a teacher.

Great teacher, he does powepoint presentations so just make sure you write it down. Tests are easy as long as you pay attention and study the handouts. The final is not mandatory. Great class.

Definitely one of the easiest classes i have taken. You don't need to buy the book. His tests cover the notes he gives in class and he tells you exactly what parts to study. He gives all kinds of bonus points and it's easy to get an A if you go to class and take the open note quizzes.

Professor Beltz is awesome. He is very funny but his jokes are subtle, which makes it even better. He realizes that some of the material is boring and tries to make it fun. Don't miss class, though- quizzes every week and a LOT of notes taken. Overall awesome professor- if you're looking for a good science elective, this is a good choice.

I had Professor Beltz for Introduction to the Oceans. Everday you take notes from the powerpoint. Every Friday you have an open note quiz from that day's material. There are 4 Exams and if you take the Final Exam the lowest score is dropped. Class is based on points. Study hard for the test, this is where points are lost. Take good notes.

Geology of Ohio is a one credit class. This class had two tests and four quizes with the lowest quiz score dropped. Study hard for the tests to do well in the class. Our test were multiple choice and the quizzes were open note. Test will be where a majority of points can be missed. No text book used, an interesting class if you need one credit

Really funny professor. :D Had him for Earth Science and I really enjoyed it. It got a little boring as it was just a powerpoint every class, but he was really funny. Open note quizzes every other class, and group activities on the other days. Very laid back. Very easy tests. Didn't use the book at all - don't buy it.

John Beltz is the best teacher at Akron I took him for all of my science credits oceans, geography and nat. disasters if u dont get a good grade its ur fault. quizzes weekly are open note and all u do on the other days is notes! take him if u have the chance!

J.Beltz is an awesome Professor. If you are uninterested in science and want a fun class, take any of his! His jokes are funny, he's down to earth and just a really great guy! I had him for Oceanography and it was by far my favorite class because of how interesting he made it.

Beltz is an awesome teacher! He is so goofy and funny that he makes the class interesting. Every class you take notes and don't use the textbook at all. There is a group project before each test but they're easy. Very easy to get an A. Definitely take this teacher!

Great professor! And I don't ever say that. He makes Geology interesting. I took him for all of my Geology courses. If I didn't like his style of teaching I would not have done that. Super nice guy. You are not guaranteed an A. But showing up for every class and taking good notes helps tremendously.

He is an awesome instructor, very easy. Attendance is not mandatory but you take notes from a Power Point the whole time. He knows his stuff, too! He explains things very well and answers questions clearly. He has open book quizzes every week (5 multiple choice questions) and the tests come right from the notes. We don't use the book ever, though!

Easiest class of my life. He was an excellent professor who made all this inconsequential and pointless material (for an econ major) very interesting. Has a great sense of humor. Take any class with him. Extremely clear and easy to follow. You?d have to be dumb not to take him class..

Earth Science. Super duper easy, Beltz is extremely clear with his notes. Weekly group projects & quizzes. You can use your notes on the quizzes, it's really hard not to get all the points on them. Test material come directly from the notes so as long as you study the notes you will be fine. He is overall a great professor

By far the best professor I have ever had. This guy knows his stuff, and is funny too! I used to think Geology was boring, now I could easily think about changing my major! :)

Good guy, and a great teacher. If you listen you will learn. If you don't listen but take notes you can still get a good grade. Just go to class so you can get the notes though.

Mr. Beltz is a great teacher, and his classes are fairly easy. He's a very nice guy and super knowledgeable, but I'd be lying if I said his class was thrilling - the 50-minute class sometimes felt like 5 hours - but still, he's a great teacher and you should definitely take him if you have the option!

He is a great professor, very knowledgeable, but if you're not interested in science he gets very boring very quick. You do have to be IN class to complete quizzes, but they are so incredibly easy. HIGHLY recommend him.

Great teacher. Test questions come straight from his notes. You don't even have to glance at the book to get an A. Only downside is that he doesn't post his powerpoints online, so you have to attend class and take notes if you want good study material. He will send you slides by email if you ask though.

Great professor. Very knowledgeable about subject matter, while adding in his own interesting (and funny) commentary. You have to study for exams; however, the class was not unnecessarily difficult. No busy work.

John is a very knowledgeable teacher with a lot of field experience. Sometimes he can be appear a little unfriendly, but he is incredibly nice! He lets you know exactly what you will need in order to do well in his class. I would definitely recommend him!

Had Dr. Beltz for the 1 credit Dinosaurs class. If you know anything about dinosaurs, don't take this class, it won't teach you anything new. If you just need an easy 1-credit A, take it. Boring, repetitive lecture. 2 quizzes and 2 tests make up your grade. MAKE SURE YOU PICK UP QUIZZES. The questions are sure to be repeated on the upcoming test.

The class is very laid back and the tests are straight from the notes. He teaches at a nice pace and gives you time to copy notes. He lets you keep tests because he combines them all for the final.

Dr. Beltz is fantastic! He explains material concisely and in a way that brings about interest in geology. I really enjoyed attending his lectures. He is willing to stay after class to answer further questions and his sense of humor added "oomph" to his classes. I would definitely recommend him!

You do not need the book for the lecture which is nice because it saves me some money for other things I need to pay for college... I had the hardest time in this class but it was no fault of Professor Beltz. He was a very good lecturer. He made it sound interesting. You have to go to class to take notes which is all you need to take tests.

Weekly open note quizzes. Will work with you if you miss class for a good reason. Does not use Springboard. Does not take attendance but you got to go to take notes. Semi-tough tests but you just got to study your notes. Book unnecessary. Excellent lecturer. Will take again. Did not care for the material but he made it interesting. He's so kind!

Mr. Beltz is awesome. The class itself (Intro to the Oceans) is not an easy class. But he'll replace one of your test scores with the final, which is made up of questions from the other tests. If you just need to satisfy the natural science elective requirement and you used to watch Land Before Time or Jurassic Park, take this class!!! Open note quizzes, two exams that were passable as long as you attend class and take notes. Book is not necessary.

Professor Bultz is a great teacher! I've taken him for multiple classes and have passes with a high B to an A each time. Love this man and his awesome teaching style. He makes the topics super entertaining with commentary and will work with you if life get in the way of a test or something.

Basically the best teacher you could get. Super nice, lectures are interesting (if you are a geo major), tests are easy and he drops the lowest one, non mandatory final (if you want that one to be the one dropped), and quizzes once a week that are easy to basically raise your grade. Take notes and that's it!

One of the easiest classes I've ever taken. Gives out easy points if you just go to class. Wednesdays he gives out a 3 question assignment at the end of class (easy) and fridays gives out a 3 question quiz (easy). I got an A on every single test (or close to it) and all I did was study the material the night before. HE IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Took a half semester 1 credit intro to geo class. Attendance was not taken, however there was only 2 quizzes and 2 tests, quizzes were open notes so if you didnt attend you didn't do well on quizzes or tests. Teacher was very laid back, funny and has a ton of information about local parks, which being new to this area, was awesome for me.

Awesome guy for a class with a bad reputation. Fun and informative. Class isn't mandatory, but the quizzes are open notes and the tests are directly from the notes, so definitely go. Grade is only based on 2 tests and 2 quizzes, so one bad one can hurt you.

I loved him! The way his earth science class was set up was so easy. A group worksheet every Wednesday, a four question open note quiz every Friday on what you went over that day, and an exam/test every couple of weeks. His lectures were involved and easy to understand, and he was quite funny.

Great guy! Told us first day of class he wants us all to pass and to make the class as easy as possible. Don't go buy the book it's not needed. All you need is the power point. The tests and quizzes will be directly from the power point. Quizzes are open notes (google friend doesn't care). Tests take like 20 minutes and are memorization. A++

Professor Beltz is a good geology lecture instructor. Class is almost all notes from powerpoints with the lights off, so I do not recommend taking this early in the morning. Class can be dry at times, but as long as you pay attention and take good notes, you should get a good grade.

The only way to fail this class is to not show up, or fail the lab. He's the easiest grader I've ever had, as long as you're going in the right direction he'll give you points. Quizzes were open note. Exams were exactly what he puts in the Review. Write down everything he says during lecture-not just the slides! Overall, very helpful & super funny.

Professor Beltz is amazing. This man is hilarious and is willing to take time out of his day to help you if needed. He made me want to go to class even when we didn't have class. He teaches everything so simplistically anyone can understand even if its your first Geo class. His tests/quizzes are directly based on the lectures so attend religiously.

There is a 4 point quiz every week, based on the content covered that day, make sure to take it and try. 4 major tests, but dropped our lowest test for the final which is optional. Can get notes later on but he just teaches it better. If you need help, reach out!

Prof. Beltz overall was a great teacher and his classes were enjoyable. We had a small 4-question online quiz each week. My only problem was the exams. Some of the questions were asking about small details or things that were kind of minuscule in the grand scheme of things. I definitely would take one of his classes again though!

I had Mr. Beltz for physical and historical geology. Great teacher that really cared about what he was talking about. Easy going. You are graded off weekly open-note online quizzes, 4 tests with an optional final, assignments that take 5 minutes to complete, and the lab. Study the study guide/ notes for tests and you will do fine. GREAT PROF!

Each class he reads off of a powerpoint which can be kind of boring but it is the best way for him to relay the material to us. Tests were extremely easy as long as you took notes during class. Really nice guy, gave very little homework.

very nice, and lectures are boring, but his personality makes up for it. Everything is in the bright space so it's easy to learn without understanding him fully. Got a good few homework done in his class cause he doesn't interact much with you but fine with me. Major lecture hall with a lot of students so it makes sense.
