Great teacher, I have not seen math in 12 years. Everything I learned was like learning for the first time. He explains great, gives extra credit. You do not turn in homework but I recommend you do it because that is how you learn it. I wish he taught 098 next fall. Great personality and has reviews days. Very easy to understand
He is a great teacher and is very easy to understand when teaching. He doesn't require you to turn in homework but it helps a lot to do it. He does not teach 098 but a great teacher.
I have not been in math for 13 years and he was so helpful. Very clear and his test are almost the same as the homework that he does not collect, so do the homework it helps. The best teacher and he has a great personality!!! I did not have him for 098 but I also received an A because he taught so well in 094. I will be taking him for geometry !!!
Bialas is awesome. That is all that really needs to be said. Wish he was teaching 127.
Great teacher his explanations are crystal .Class is well paced, answers any questions to ensure class understands.Overall great teacher with sense humor and great personality. I wish I had him for pre calc
I have 64 credit hours at JJC and Prof. Bialis has been by far the best professor I have had at JJC. Prof. B. takes time during every class to go over ungraded homework assignments. Any question you have he will answer. He wants everyone to do well and doesn't pick favorites. Very easy to get along with and jokes a lot in class.
Great teacher!!
I had Prof. John Bialas for Algebra 094 and am scheduled to have him for Pre-Calc. He is a Great Teacher, very helpful and consistent in his teaching method. He grads tests such that there are 1-3 bonus questions and give credit for the work shown. Tests are just are VERY similar to the Chapter tests in your book. I got an A in his class.
Good teacher
He is a good teacher and he makes you work for your grade. The tests are decent, you will have to study. He explains everything well enough that when you go to study,if you take good notes you will do good. He's really nice and will help you.
Great teacher all around. He answers any questions you have and explains the notes well.
Professor Bialas is such a great teacher. He takes the time to listen to your concerns and works to make sure you feel comfortable with the material. Very fair teacher...I highly recommend taking one of his classes.
Best teacher i ever had!!! Highly recommend this teacher to work with. very helpful, nice ane will guide you to understand Math..:)
He's an excellent teacher. I've never been this good at math. He explains the material very well and is always willing to help if you have any questions.
I never liked math. He does assign homework but never grades it. I think I would have done better in his class if he graded homework.
Mr. Bialas is awesome!!! He really helps you to understand Math. He will answer questions all class period if it helps you understand the work better. He doesn't grade the HW but gives HW quizzes, so if you do the HW you pass!! I took him for 094 & 098!! He's awesome and I would recommend him to anyone!!
He is an amazing teacher. he explains everything so well and will stop at any time to answer questions. i am horrible at math and he made it very clear to understand. he doesnt check homework but i suggest you do otherwise you are screwed. i def recomend him. im also taking him for 098 since he teaches that
He is a good teacher. He tends to fill his students with hope that they can do things they have not done before. he tends to make everything straight foward. The only thing is that he likes straight answers and takes off bunch of marks for little mistakes, so watch out for mistakes as he is really strict about them.
Awesome teacher. I would recommend him to anyone. Very helpful and clear with his lessons.
this teacher was AMAZING...I only wish he taught every math class!
Awesome teacher. Takes homework for a grade. Very clear teacher and always willing to help or answer any questions you may have. I would most definitely recommend him.
He is helpful but he does not take homework for a grade! The grade is based strictly off quizes, tests and exam. You get only 4 absences the semester excused or not. I have a tough time with math but the way he teaches does help a lot! He really makes you work for the grade.
Mr B is a great math teacher, i actually had to retake the course over because my previous professor was not good at all. He didnt make the material clear. Mr B makes the material very very clear goes step by step and helps you when needed, you can tell he loves math and if he is an option i would suggest to take his class! Excellent teacher.
Failed Math 139 the first time around with another professor. I took Mr. B, and he made it so much easier. He actually answers questions and will spend time explaining things until everyone understands. He's the only good math teacher that I've taken at JJC. Study and do homework, and you will do fine.
Professor Bialas is an incredible teacher. I wish I had teachers even half as good as him for 094,098, and 138. Lectures are clear, comfortable, and often funny. He actually wants his student's to succeed, which is a breath of fresh air at JJC. Take John Bialas's classes and work hard, you won't be disappointed!
He was the best math teacher. He was I had the best time in his class. He made coming to class class an excitement. He were very helpful when I needed help. I loved the chemistry of his class and I really enjoyed his class. Next semester he will be by Math 098 teacher. I refused to take anybody else but the best. ??????
Simply the BEST Math teacher I've ever had. He explains everything so clearly and really takes the time to answer everyone's questions until they understand the material. I wish I could take all my remaining Math courses with him.
I would not recommend this course over the summer, because every over week tests, and he goes over chapters fast. No homework, your grade will be based on tests you have taken. Otherwise, very nice guy, explains everything but just not enough time.
Mr. Bialas is literally the best math teacher I have ever had, I could understand everything he was talking about and if anybody had a question at any moment, he'd stop what he's doing and clarify anything until everyone understands the process. I totally recommend him.
I Loved him as a professor! He explains everything in detail. If you ask for help he is there for you. He will stop and ask if anyone has questions. Goes over all the homework to make sure everyone understands. Homework is not for a grade but the test are easy if you understand it. Need your book for homework. Test are similar to the homework.
If you actually study and complete the homework assigned this class is a breeze.
The usual math class, homework everyday, textbook and attendance are required. Amazing teacher who understands that school is not the only thing going on in students' lives. Very helpful, talks quickly, but will work every step of the way when a student asks questions. Would take again.
Best math professor I've ever had!
I loved having Prof. Bialas. I wish his 150 course would've fit into my schedule. He is a really good teacher, and he wants to be sure everyone understands what is being taught. Take him, especially if you struggle in Math.
Wow. Just wow. I absolutely hated math before I took Professor Bialas! I would have gotten a D in this class if it wasn't for him. I ended up with an A because he is that good of a teacher. He made college algebra not only understandable but enjoyable. If you have to take a math class, take Bialas. He's truly an amazing teacher.
Amazing teacher ! Take his class if you actually want to learn. He is very clear with what to expect on tests and quizzes. He has an extra credit quiz at the end of the semester that is just pure extra credit. He takes questions every class. He does not assign homework but he gives you optional problems to do which I recommend doing.
Wonderful teacher! Math is always a class full of homework as is his. Need the book and graphing paper. Always builds in extra credit to quizzes. He understands that school is not always the top priority in life and is always willing to help students outside of class.
I am absolutely horrible at math. It bores me to death and I honestly cannot stand it. However, this was the first and only teacher to describe algebra to me in a somewhat understandable manner. I struggled through this class. We covered a lot of material each week. I went to tutoring, asked questions, and did the "homework" and passed with a C.
I took the class that was one day a week. It was his last class of the night, so he seemed to impatient which is understood, but I feel he was rushed to get through the work. He only gives you one hour for the tests, no credit for homework.
Very good teacher. Is very clear and gives lots of extra credit. I will have him next semester for the next level
start off with a 0% not 100% like most instructors
He makes you work for your grade. Doesn't give points for homework so if you really want to do good and understand what's going on then, DO THE HOMEWORK. He is a really nice guy and will take time to answer and explain everything to you. Don't hesitate to ask anything, even if you think it's stupid. Your grade matters more than your ego.
Mr. Bialas is a really good teacher. He makes everything clear and explains in a step by step process. He assigns homework but not for a grade just so that you will practice on the material at home. Your grade is dependent on how good you do on the test. As long as you do the work you will do great in the class.
he is by far one of my favorite professors. he is super nice and great at explaining. He loves questions in class
Bialas is one of the best, if not the best math teacher I have ever had. He always helps and throws a joke in here or there to lighten up the "math classroom" vibe. Would 100% recommend him to other students.
I took 095 online and its a ton of homework you have to complete! 300 questions plus a practice exam which helps alot on test ! you also get a cheat sheet each exam. I have a C, but I suck at geometry and procrastinate to do the homework . Good online teacher I guess No Complaints.
Gives good study tips and goes over a lot of homework. gives some extra credit
Professor Bialas is a great instructor, he answers all questions, and genuinely wants you to understand what you are doing. The class is tough, and the only grades you receive are test scores. He gives homework, but does not collect it, my suggestion, do the homework. The tests are exactly what you work on in class, there are no hidden balls.
May seem like a lot of rules the first day but honestly the best teacher I ever had. Great teacher style and he works with you hmwk is optional
He is by far one my the best math teacher's I've ever had! I struggle with math so much and he makes it so clear and easy to understand. He's very friendly and funny! Which make the whole environment very enjoyable! Unlike most teachers who just lecture and bore one out of their mind.
I took both 094 and 098 w/him, I had a fear of math but Prof B was super clear with his expectations of his students and even more clearer with his explanations of the coursework. He is a funny guy and easy to talk to. Just do your homework (he doesn't check it, he says it's up to us if we want to succeed), ask questions, and it should be a breeze!
very helpful
Very hard class. Tests are worth 500 out of 855 points and are WRITTEN. The final exam (multiple choice thankfully) is worth 200 pts. Homework is worth 100 pts and all questions are due every other week and same date of test. Didn't find practice tests helpful (25 pts). Harder class than I expected, esp with the written tests.
I took Professor Bialas for both MATH 138 and 139. He's great at teaching and knows what he's talking about. Homework isn't required but if you neglect it, you have a good chance of failing the tests. He gives partial credit on tests which is great, just make sure you study hard for them. Don't forget to bring your book to class!!!
Professor Bialas is by far the best math teacher I've ever had. I always struggled with math in HS but when I was in his classes I received A's. He is great at teaching the math to others and making sure others understand. He is a really nice guy and does everything he can to help his students.
HORRIBLE HE DOESNT EXPLAIN ANYTHING he is very nice but you have to kiss his behind to get the grade you want!! I dropped the class right before the mid-term. Pretty much was failing the class the whole time and I passed 094 with a 98%.
I've had the unfortunate pleasure of taking his online class. I actually dropped once and had to take him again. lot's of homework worth nothing and by the time you finish 600 problems, videos, and practice tests, you're too overwhelmed for the actual test. Probably is great in the classroom but would not suggest taking his class online
great teacher, do the work and youll do fine. do not forget to study
Took this class online as a late-start. You must be very disciplined, as this class is very demanding. There is weekly homework that is graded for points and counts towards your grade. There is also practice tests that must be taken prior to taking actual tests. Tests are taken at the testing center. Bialas is helpful & is there if needed!
Professor Bialas is easily the best Math teacher I have had at JJC, and one of the best I have had in school all together. He is a very clear teacher, explains every problems well, and is helpful to those who ask questions. He will take a good amount of time to answer questions, so as long as you ask you will get help. Would highly recommend.
He is just your average professor nothing amazing nothing bad.
I do NOT recommend taking this professor if you are someone who has struggled with math classes in the past. The only things that go in the grade book are tests and quizzes. If you are someone that does not test well, you will fail this class. I retook this class as an MRP class and HIGHLY recommend. I passed with an A and am able to skip a class!
I took Prof. Bialas for 098 and 131 currently. He is the best math teacher i have ever had, and plan to take more courses with him. He teaches based off of examples and will go above and beyond to make sure that you understand a topic. He has even helped me in other math courses when i wasn't in his class at the time. He is the best!!
Material isnt difficult he just goes super fast. I couldnt keep up and ended up dropping.
He was awesome! If you had questions about the criteria you are learning in class, he will make you not scared to ask. He is very approachable and is well organized with the different objectives you are learning. He will go over the criteria to make sure no one is confused and is willing to answer questions before the test.
I took this class online and never had to talk to the professor. going to the tutoring center helped ALOT whenever I needed help. You just watch video lecture and use the textbook. ALOT of hw that only counted for 5 points each chapter. Test were pretty hard. Uses MyMathLab. Took during covid but was already taking it online so not much difference
I was worried I would fail taking online Algebra but I was forced to, due to COVID. However, Prof. Bialas created a series of algebra lessons that were straightforward and easy to comprehend. Great resource! He was also accessible. Homework-heavy! Like anything else, you won't excel without practice!
He gives a lot of homework, NO extra credit, You'll be on your own, NO help from him. Good thing is, just take the practice quiz and you'll pass the exam. For HW, do the help method.
online class. watch the lecture vids do the hw on time and you will do just fine. DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS ALOT! the exams are just like them. He is willing to help if you need help. nice guy. I thought the class was rather easy and was able to finish work at my own pace before it was due. 10/10 reccomend
Super easy class and a great teacher. if the textbooks aren't your go to, he offers up youtube links if you're more of a visual learner. Doesn't have you fill out a workbook and doesn't require proof or webcam for exams, which as someone who stresses about that stuff is super appreciated. I only got a B because I missed some assignments.
10/10 recommend! Very clear teacher with the grading criteria and allows you to go at your own pace/get ahead! Practice exams help a lot too and are very similar to the exams.
Prof. Bialas is a great teacher. His lectures can sometimes be confusing to understand, but most of the time his teaching is straightforward and easy to follow. Just make sure to complete your homework as those help A LOT for the tests and quizzes he assigns in class. All in all, he's a friendly teacher, always encouraging students to not give up.
I taught myself every piece of material in this class with MML. The homework assignments had 60-80 questions and it took me around 4-6 hours to do them. Every 3 weeks there was a test which was usually easier than the homework and only had 20 questions. Testing is done in-person but you can take it at any nearby university if you're out of state.
The professor does not do anything to teach the online class. You will be taught by Pearson and only Pearson. The only instructional video the professor sends is about how to log in to Pearson. The tests are also on Pearson and are automatically graded by Pearson. Do not take this class if you expected a custom courseload by the professor.
He was very straightforward and it's very easy to get into the flow of this class.
This class was very difficult especially for someone who took a break from taking a math course. The professor was very caring and great at introducing and explaining material the only down side is your grade is based on test and quizzes and must be taken in person
I took this class online and had no contact with the professor. Its easy to get 100% on the homework and the practice exams as long as you take your time. TAKE THE PRACTICE EXAMS! They are the same problems as the test and usually easier than the homework. The homework definitely takes a long time but it is easy to get a good grade in this class.
Bialas is a great professor. His grading and testing system is very clear. If you need help he is more than willing to work with you till you get it 100%. Lectures are easy to follow as they are based of the book and he has a good personality towards his students. One of the better professors at JJC.
Great teacher that is straightforward about what is expected from his students in the course. Cool in person but the class is VERY TEST HEAVY. Homework is worth 0 points only things that went in the grade were the quizzes and exams. Your final can replace one of the exams but if you do not put in the work you will not do well in this class.
The material being learned can be very difficult and confusing but he is truly a great professor that will go over the same problem as many times needed to help his students understand. Only bad thing is your grade is based on test and quiz grades which can be stressful but he adds extra points to help his students out to get a better grade.
College Algebra with Bialas was great. There are 60-80 question homework assignments weekly, and about 8 tests plus the final, but the tests make up most of your grade. DO THE PRACTICE TESTS!! They are IDENTICAL to the tests! 5 extra credit points given at the end to final if complete practice test. Final exam score replaces lowest test grade too!!
Best math teacher ever! Very clear lectures and explains things well. Always willing to help. But the only grades that go in the gradebook are tests/quizzes. If you do the hw you should do well on the tests. He does go over hw questions for the 1st half of class. And before each test he outlines exactly what will be on it so there are no surprises.
I failed college algebra at my university so I opted to take this class at JJC over the summer to stay on track. It was a 6 week class but Bialas is a top notch professor who is excellent at teaching. The textbook is very good too.
Despite the long homework assignments, it is extremely helpful in preparation for the exams. I always felt very prepared and confident going into tests after in class lectures, the videos he provides, and the review for each chapter. Best math professor I have ever had, highly recommend taking his classes!
About an average teacher. He's helpful when you ask, but it felt like I was more copying down notes in his class rather than learning. He also relies solely on the book for this class. Which, personally I wasn't a big fan of.
Best math teacher I've ever had! Dr. Bialas is a humble and charismatic man. Just like in any other math class, do the homework he assigns on a spaced repetition schedule and you will very likely be successful. He curves tests, replaces lowest test score w final, but he does only enter tests into the gradebook, so be warned if your a bad test taker
Professor Bialas is easily the best I've had for a math course, he explains the material extremely well, takes any and all questions that you have. The only downside is that he only grades tests, but he curves the tests, and even offers an extra credit quiz towards the end that can be worth up to 30 extra credit points. I highly recommend him
I took this class during the summer, and I enjoyed taking his class; the exams were not too complicated and looked similar to the test reviews! However, he gave out so much homework throughout the week, so be prepared for that. You teach yourself the material, but if you have any questions, he is always willing to help.
literally the first time since 8th grade i've ever actually felt like i understood a math class. he made everything clear and actually felt like i was retaining info. best maths teacher ive ever had
Professor Bialas is a great teacher; he's very helpful, patient, and understanding. Paying attention in class, doing the homework, and practicing the exams can help you get an A easily. Even minimal effort can get you a C. Exams are in the testing center with two hours and no notes.
