John Bitterman has a wonderful personality. Most people feel awkward giving speeches in the front of the class, but John teaches you how to relax. I found his teaching to be very enjoyable because he adds humor to a lot of his lectures.

Even though Speech class can be unenjoyable, he actually made it fun and I looked forward to it. As long as you do all the speeches and appear to try your best, you'll get an A.

Speech is the dreaded fear for everyone but it helps when you have someone guide you through and Mr. Bitterman is an instructor who care about his students. He is an approachable and friendly teacher.

I've always been deathly afraid of public speaking and dreading having to take Speech classes. Mr. Bitterman's class is actually FUN. I gained a lot of confidence; he is really helpful and understanding. He's probably one of the friendliest teachers at WCC. I'd definitely take another class of his.

You can't take an easier class. The only way you won't get an A is if you do not show up to do your speech.

He's easy to understand and he knows what he's talking about. He let the class research what their intrests in mass comm were. He's a great teacher.

Bitterman made speech less fearful when you were talking in front of everyone and there he is, in the back of the class, smiling at you which helps put one at ease. One of the best at Waubonsee!

Tests were challenging but class was not too hard. I had a great time listening to Bitterman stories about his days in the field. Great teacher!

Awesome teacher! he applogizes a lot but if you show up and pay attention you will get a good grade. He is very easy to talk to and ask questions and on his tests they always have an essay but one of the options is write your own question- relating to what you learned so if you study something thats not on the test you can put it there yourself-A+

Mr. Bitterman is a really great guy! He is understanding and helpful to his students. He makes public speaking a lot, lot easier!!! He does tend to babble a bit, but he really knows the material. Only one easy test, you don't neeed the book, and you won't do everything he has on the syllabus..he does grade speeches a little harshly! GREAT GUY!!

This guy is AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME! The friendliest professor I've ever had in my entire student career. I was in an online course of his, and he was so nice that it felt like you were a member of his family. He took amazing amounts of time to make sure his students were understanding the material, and he's definitely in top five teachers ever!!

SUPER easy. Canceled class somewhat often. Gives extra credit if you go first on Speech days.

Had him for Mass Comm. He was possibly one of the nicest teachers I've ever had, BUT his class was also possibly one of the most boring and unhelpful. Classes were canceled a LOT and he would never email you in advance to tell you. You would find out by the note on door once you arrived. However, if you want an incredibly easy A, go for it.

John is an absolutely wonderful teacher. Although I hate speech, he made it a lot more bearable. He's very friendly and understanding. A few people in my class didn't have their speeches done on time, so he allowed them to go later. If I had to take any more COMM classes, I want to find ones that he teaches.

John was an awesome teacher, engaging and helpful. I had him for television production 1, and now 2. Seriously, anyone interested in taking a television production course, take his class.

There are not enough superlatives to describe John Bitterman. He is what higher education SHOULD be, all the time. Brilliant yet humble, caring yet professional with an encyclopaedic knowledge on television and mess media. Will spend the rest of the night and into the morning talking to you. Accessible, approachable, THE BEST THERE IS PERIOD.

There have been a handful of amazing teachers I've had since, say, kindergarden. John Bitterman is an extraordinary teacher. Always kind, helpful, and clear, John makes you want to go to class. I highly recommend taking any of his classes because more teachers need to be like him.

One of my favorite teachers at Waubonsee. I dreaded taking his class because I got very anxious agiving speeches but not only did I get over my fear of public speaking, I got an A in the class. Bitterman is a great teacher! Easy to understand, talk to and never gets that "I'm the teacher im smarter than you" voice. Great guy... If you're taking speech sign up for his class. Havent used a book once.

Mr. Bitterman was an excellent instructor. At first i thought the class was going to be boring but when i met Mr. Bitterman, things got better. I liked having him as a teacher.

Professor Bitterman is by far one of the most helpful and accurate Professors that i've ever had as a COM Professor. He is by far so professional and provides TONS of helpful insights to help you succeed in his class as well as in your future successes. Great Professor!

AWESOME professor. I can't stress enough how much I enjoyed being in his class(and this is coming from someone who used to be HORRIFIED at the idea of public speaking). Bitterman is so encouraging and kind! 4 speeches, all 5-7 mins long, and one test. I have no complaints whatsoever. If you need to take public speaking, take it with Bitterman!

Mr. Bitterman is by far the best teacher I have had at WCC. He is very helpful and makes class very interesting. He was especially very helpful when i was in the hospital at the end of spring term and he helped me get all the makeup work and I ended up with an A in the class! I also have an interest in communications and he really knew his stuff.

This instructor was great but there were somethings i did not like about him. He promised the whole class that he would give us the DVD for what we did in class and he never mail it to us. Overall nice instructor.

If you are heading into the field of Mass Communication or anything with media in general. I'd highly recommend this professor. His tests are simple as long as you read the textbooks. It would be a very hard class not to pull an A or B in. You'll have to try to fail this course with him.

He was awesome! I took COM100 with him online, we all met up once a month. You only do 4 speeches, and some discussion posts online but not much. He had two meeting times, which was nice.

Easy A, and I do not mean that in a good way. If you need to up your GPA take this instructor. The reason he has such a high score is because everyone gets a good grade in his classes, even if they don't deserve it. There's a good chance he'll cancel 4 weeks of classes as well.

I wish he had more classes i could take. He is an amazing professor. Not really any testing, just the speeches, and he doesn't grade just on presentation he's gives points for trying and content in the speech. He is very helpful with answering questions, but if you need to ask before or after class. Just show up to speeches

This is my second class with Mr. Bitterman. He's a fantastic teacher who actually wants you to succeed. You can tell he's passionate about what he's teaching. YES, you do have to work in his class, but if you put forth the effort, you'll find his classes fun and rewarding.

Excellent teacher for someone who is afraid of giving speeches! 4 speeches. Book is expensive & not needed. His feedback is done in a positive way. He does little exercises along the way which helps you for when it's speech time. If you are afraid to take this class take it with him! Very nice man! He cares! He wants you to succeed.

Probably the best teacher i've ever had at Waubonsee. He really cares about his students and wants you to pass the class. Write your speeches and show up and you are almost guaranteed an A in the class. He is super nice and understand and always has good positive feedback to give you. Mr. Bitterman is the most caring and friendliest teacher you will ever have. He gives great feed back after your speech. He also genuinely cares about what yo have to say during your speech. He was my favorite teacher and he is one of the best at waubonsee.

Prof. John Bitterman is the one you want to take if you are scared of public speaking and need a decent grade. He understands people get nervous when speaking in groups. He is a little slow at updating the grade book but does an overall good grading criteria. Take the online version of COM100 its easier than going twice a week every week. Great guy

Now upon entering this class I was scared it would be a bit boring and hard. To my surprise Mr. Bitterman was a splendid easy going guy. Very interactive and talkative. Lets everyone in the class have a voice. The class work is easy and helps the lessons stick. Though not a whole lot of HW at all. Loved his class so much hes very charismatic man.

Prepare for the most caring man to give you confidence in speaking. I loved this class so much. By week 2 I felt so close to him and the rest of class (only knew one person going in). He is very engaging and wants everyone to succeed. Everyone was in such a good mood during class because of him and it made coming in every a breeze.

One of the best teachers I have ever had! If you have anxiety about speaking in front of others, definitely take his class! 80% of the class is spent listening to other students' speeches, which you fill out forms for. He provides great, individual feedback. Very laid back, wonderful person and teacher. Can't say enough good things about him! :)

I do not believe my eyes when I see negative comments on Professor Bitterman. He is BY FAR one of the best professors I have ever had a class with. I took his class in 2018. I took his online course that met 5 times throughout the semester. After every class, I left feeling rejuvenated by his positivity. He is a fantastic person!

Bitterman has a great online class. He gives good feedback. Directions easy to understand. Take an online class and just really take an interest in the material, try to pull stuff out and apply it. Intro to Mass Comm online was just modules, then some videos and some tests. Really interesting class and discussion board. Not that hard. Easy class.

I've taken 3 classes with Bitterman, and loved them all. He's absolutely my favorite teacher. He cares more about you showing a genuine interest than anything else. His classes are very hands on, but you won't get in trouble for missing one. But he makes it so that you don't WANT to miss a class. You learn a lot and I never stressed about my grade.

I took John's COM100 sync-online course and loved it! He enjoy's seeing his students faces and is always very caring, understanding, and interested in what his students have to say. Also very clear in what he expects and gives good feedback on assignments and speeches. If you're looking for a great professor, John Bitterman is the way to go!

Very understanding and caring professor especially during a pandemic. None of my professors were as understanding and he even waived assignments and still gave us credit. I will say that he was not as responsive as I would have liked with emailing but the class itself was very easy to pass.

Great professor. He only has a technical grasp on how to use canvas which leads to great emails (unique wording, random capitalization, long titles, etc.), would recommend. There weren't many assignments and they were all really interesting and pretty easy to do. Any class he teaches, I'm taking from now on. Lots of spontaneous capitalization.

I cannot recommend him more, he really shows compassion and understanding during the pandemic. Gives detailed outlines for speech assignments, EXTENDS DUE DATES A LOT! The only downside is that grades don't come out all that fast and some of the modules on Canvas are posted late. Otherwise, his course was worth the money.

One of the best classes I have ever taken. Flexible with deadlines. He does not give busy work. We held class over ZOOM meetings because of the pandemic, but the class was really engaged and most people were willing to have their cameras on. He has a great sense of humor and is a great listener. Easily contacted outside of class. Highly recommend.

Took his class in a hybrid setting, meeting only for presentations. Incredible teacher! Professor Bitterman does more as a person. He is a great facilitator for the teacher-student environment and makes you feel comfortable and cares for the student. There's no homework, only the speeches. Presentations are easy and simple. Honestly Professor Bitterman was amazing he made speech so much fun! I highly recommend you to take him he is very funny and just has a great personality overall. He also really cares for his students and does his best to help you in this class there's also no homework other than working on speeches which are also pretty easy.

He is a very caring teacher and really cares about his students. He is very easy to just sit down and have a conversation with. There are a lot of extra credit opportunities as well.

He's slow to responding and posting in modules. He's an extremely easy grader. Gives good feedback for speeches. Very simple small assignments. Only 5 speeches. You do have to basically tech your self but it's pretty easy.

The class is a little slow, but I really enjoyed it. Bitterman experienced many unfortunate circumstances during our semester and was very attentive and proactive about getting back on track. The class is very chill and less like lectures and more like conversations about our learning topics. I would totally take his class again.

I loved Bitterman! So passionate about what he teaches and wants his students to be interested/engaged in these topics too. My only regret is not taking more of his classes (and taking them sooner in my time at WCC). Not a typical semester as there were unforeseen life circumstances on his end, but he still made the class worthwhile. Loved him.

I took it over the summer so my opinion may be skewed However Bitterman was amazing. You would have to actively try to fail if you wanted anything less than an A. John Bitterman's class was honestly a pleasure to take. He tells the most interesting stories and he is so kindhearted. The class doesn't feel like a lecture, he teaches us in a way thats practically conversational. His speeches have very clear outlines and his feedback is always positive and helpful.

I have really bad social anxiety and I took his COM100 class. I have to say he is the most caring professor I've ever met. If you have anxiety he is the best professer to have. He is very understanding and caring. I did 3 of 4 my speeches one on one with him. He can take a bit to reply to emails, but that's fine. As long as you try, you'll pass.

If you want an easy A with a super sweet guy I would highly recommend. If you want to learn and grow as a communicator I would stay away. Little to no feedback is given. Professor Bitterman is an incredibly caring and engaging teacher. While the class is quite easy, he provides great feedback on speeches and creates a comfortable learning environment. I found unstuck AI super helpful for exam prep - definitely take advantage of it!
