If you can, take him. He's the best literature professor I've had yet.
definetly one of the very best, highly recommended!!
He is a great teacher. He is really hands on. You will enjoy his class even if you don't like english.

Blair picks interesting plays, poems and novels to read and explains things thoroughly. His exams are very fair and relatively easy.
Made Eng Lit enjoyable for someone who hates studying Lit...........
This guy could care less. I know his TA's did most of the grading.
I had him for College Writing II and never made less than an A on all of my papers, which I put hardly any effort into. He grades very easily on essays and his class is very enjoyable. Nice personality and is usually very happy. Highly recommended!
reads stories to you in class and gives answers
He's very enthusiastic about his lectures, which are easy to follow if you just read the material prior to class. Take a little responsibility for your own actions and you will do very well.
Awesome professor! Interesting, fun, and helpful. Take him!
way funny and entertaining. he's really into what he's teaching and it makes a big difference. as long as you read the assignments, its a breeze

Blair's "creat. writing" correspondence course is a sham. He failed to return several assignments and gives B's without consideration. The supp. reading provides no assistance. Your writing ability simply can not improve, and Blair is arrogant and thoughtless in his communications and grading.
I really liked this class, he was hillarious. He doesn't have an attendance policy, but i would go to class. He gives pop quizzes sometimes, but they are like 3 questions (Easy hundred) tests are mulitiple choose except for one essay. I made a B, only because i missed a few classes and a lot of the test materials come from lecture. take him!!!

study the old tests...... recycles questions
I do not like to read, but I really enjoyed his class. He was very excited about reading the stories and poems out loud, so he was never boring. His tests were a little tricky though. But I would definitely recommend taking his class.
Sarcastic and entertaining, i would definatly recomend blair
Repeats the important things many times. Gives occassional test questions. If you wear a hat, he'll call on you. He really loves what he does. I'm not the best at english but I got an A!
AWSOME PROF. I took him during the summer, he does not put any essay questions on the test duing summer sessions, only M.C. He really enjoys what he does. He also gives you the key points and questions that will be on the test. Yea, don't wear a hat because he will pick on you, unless you like to talk in front of a class of 200 or more.......
He was a great teacher! Very funny and entertaining. Pay attention in class, don't skip and the tests will be an easy A. You don't even really have to read on your own to do good, just listen to what he says.
Awesome teacher, Literature themes were badass over all and good lectures
He is very funny and his lectures are awesome, but you have to go to class because the tests are easy, but they are all what he says. So don't think you can just read and be okay.
He is awesome! Easy A if you go to class and take good notes. He keeps class interesting and doesn't push his beliefs on you like some other professors do. Take him if you can - you won't regret it.
great prof...class is easy but you must go to class. test ?s come strait from class notes. I never read one story and still got an A
He was very helpful and made the class more interesting than it was.
He is an excellent teacher and explained all the reading thoroughly. I enjoyed coming to class and listening to his lectures, BUT some of test questions are tough- sometimes the answers will be so similar that it is difficult to distinguish which ones he is looking for. Great teacher but watch out for tests that try to trick you.
Creative Writing class. Fun and pretty easy. Turn stuff in and you're guarenteed at least a B.
Its hard not to think of his class as a blow off. All he does is read the story to you BUT he gives his personal insight on the story and that is what you end up getting tested over. Hes big on attendance. If attendance is low for the day, he gives out free test questions. Easy easy easy professor, just go to class
Hey yall, I am currently taking his class as a first semester freshman....and im doing VERY well. Blair is entertaining and makes going to class worthwhile, I really enjoy his class
One of the funniest teachers I've ever had!! He makes the class fun and throws out free test questions in lecture! He doesn't take role, but you need to go to class because he throws out random quizzes that are really easy! Tests are fairly easy as long as you go to class and just listen. An easy A and a fun guy to listen to!
He's a good teacher. Take notes everyday in class bc thats really what you need to study. You should go to class to get the free test questions and extra points from quizzes. Its a lot of reading, but hey its english. Study the old tests because he recycles some questions from them. Oh and never wear a baseball cap or he'll call on you for sure.
He's hilarious! Easy class as long as you go everyday. Gives out exam questions in class. Extra credit quizzes when attendence is low. Tests are easy as long as you read everything.
Good in class but a complete jerk outside of class. Don't ask him to help you in anyway because he will just be mean and act like you are completely putting him out by asking him to do his job. Take someone else.
He's very arrogant. You must go to class because he's going to test you on how he interprets the material. Look over some of the old tests for pointers if you must take him. On the plus side, I enjoyed a lot of the things we read, especially the short stories.
The class was interesting. Make sure you go. Just as everyone else has said, he gives quizzes and free test questions. Overall an okay prof, but its hard to get an A from him.
Take him! Good prof - take notes - most of the tests were from lecture. Attendance not madatory - but gives test questions and extra credit when low.
Great Teacher. Make sure you go to class. Tests are multiple choice. Most of the short stories he requires can be found online if you know how to search for them. His sense of humor is awesome. TAKE HIM.
Ok this guy is weird. He really enjoys what he teachs but that dosnt make the class easy. Not to mention he's an ass, dont bother asking for help he wont give it to you. And his test have questions you never thought would be there. Dont walk out of his class he'll call you out & then take it out on the rest of the class,it really pisses him off.
B-O-R-I-N-G!! YOU LEARN MORE READING THE STORIES BY YOURSELF AND DOING THE REVIEWS (FOR THE TEST). yOU HAVE TO SO UP DAILY B/C YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN HIS GOING TO GIVE A POP QUIZ.
great guy. knows whats up. show up to class. take notes. study them. anyone should be able to pass the tests no problem. he even gives extra credit which helps
i love this guy. he obviously loves what he does. he wears a bluejean vest that says poetry on the back. hes corky and funny. he makes some of it interesting but i mean it is english and sometimes your going to have to read some boring stuff. he has extremly clear and interesting lectures.
I can't stress enough how much you should reconsider taking a class with this useless, rude man. He has made it perfectly clear that teaching is not his priority, but being published is. He will not respond to your emails, he will not be in his office during office hours, and he will do his best to be a rude **** on the mass class emails.
I would reconsider taking Dr. Blair unless you seriously LOVE literature. He will ask questions on the test that you would have NEVER expected. He seems like an okay guy, but not a good professor.
Don't know what the fuss is - I thought it was an easy A. I never did any of the reading, just showed up and took his notes, and the tests were mostly from that. Started with lots of poetry, then the novels are fairly easy. He has an odd sense of humor, but was pretty laid back. Don't leave during class unless you want him to make fun of you.
Ha! I can't believe Blair still wears the blue jean vest with 'poetry' on the back. He was wearing that over 10 years ago when I was an undergrad at SWT
Had him for Amer.Lit. This guy is a jerk. Take this class at ACC,you will learn more, and you won't be asked to recount his mindless dribble on exams! His exams were a joke too! I dropped, it wasn't worth getting a B from someone who was not TEACHING ANYTHING! I guess i just want more value for my educational dollar.
it can be fairly interesting and tests can be difficult. The questions consist of what he says during lecture and what HE thinks everything means. some of the questions you would never expect to be on the test. LOTS of reading but not an inpossible class to make a good grade in
Blair is awesome. His tests are EASY. Just go to class!! He gives away test questions in class! Quizes ask questions like "name any author you should have read for last night" or "What's Obama's wife's name?" Easy!! You also only have to get 2 out of the 3 questions right. For students that actually go to class, it's awesome. I got an A!
Excellent teacher. I did the assigned readings, attended every class (taking notes), and got an A+. He is available for additional help during his office hours.
He is hilarious. I was dreading this class but he had made it so enjoyable. You have to attend class to do well on the exams because of most of the questions come from the lecture. His exams can be tricky so you have to make sure you study your lecture notes and the material well. He is very helpful, friendly, and has a great sense of humor!
very good teacher, makes class interesting.
Dr. Blair is awesome! TAKE HIS CLASS! His lectures are very helpful, he is nice fun, and explains stuff so well. Actually made me interested in poetry! His quizzes are just for attendence and gives extra credit for them! DON'T THINK TWICE ABOUT IT TAKE HIM!
Amazing teacher...seriously. Most of the things we read for class he explains it very well. Attend class cuz he gives pop quizzes (easy) and uses them for extra credit. He is hilarious and not boring at all. The class is not as hard as it seems before taking it. There is one essay exam. TAAAAAAAAAKE HIM!!!!
I LOVED this professor. As long as you go to every class, you will definitely do well in his class. His quizzes are basically attendance quizzes and he thoroughly goes over the readings in class. If I could, I would take another class with him as the professor
BLAIR IS AWESOME! english is not my thing, but I really love this class!! I love the reading, he explains everything really well, lectures are never boring, and hes pretty funny. The tests aren't so bad and theres only one essay (midterm) If you're taking eng 2310, i'd recommend getting blair. DO IT!
Best creative writing teacher ever! Blair made the class extremely interesting and really helped me with my writing. Extremely easy if you like to write, since there are four short stories you have to write. Provided good input and always ended class early. I loved this class! Blair is an awesome and fun teacher.
Make sure to ATTEND class bc he likes to punish those who don't by giving away a test answer when attendance is low or giving an EASY quiz like "What's the name of our most famous alumnus?" He curves, and on almost every test he threw out a question or 2 to get the class average up. I'd take him again.
Had this guy for two classes over the years. His junior-lev. classes are much easier than sophomore. Great sense of humor. Not so great at actually teaching (as he'll admit) but classes regardless are interesting and informative, &c.&c. Darn easy, too. Does as much as possible to help the class on tests nudge nudge hyuck. My favorite prof.
Took for Summer II. He is funny and interesting...very funny. I did not buy the required books.I bought the Efictions, went to the library and scanned in the pages I needed, then printed it out. That was FREE. I checked out other books at the San marcos library. Take good notes, attend class.
Awesome teacher! Very entertaining which is a good thing because you have to attend his class in order to do well on the Exams.
I loved him! One of the best english professors I have had. But it didn't start out that way. I HATE poetry and the first half of the semester was dedicated to it. Actually, I hated it even more with him because he tested us with multiple choice exams over poetry!!?? I was not a fan of that.
Very fun & entertaining professor! He seems to absolutely enjoy the subject matter & is very passionate about it. Go to class & read the assigned stories & you will do great! Pop quizzes are only for attendance purposes. The only paper you will write is an in-class midterm. TAKE DR. BLAIR!!!
If u don't really want to learn anything and get a b at least, this is your class, he doesn't really care just dint wear a hat, just read the books and take good notes and if u missed. Just listen to review session Attendence is not mandatory but if u miss u miss notes and thats necessary,His test are pretty much what he says in class
Great teacher! pay attention in class and take good notes and the tests will be a breeze
All these positive reviews sure fooled me. I'm assuming everyone who posted a review of this class is an English or Philosophy major. If you're not, you're S.O.L. I'm a 3.5+ GPA student and BARELY have a C in here. This wack class is going to kill my GPA. Tests are ATROCIOUS
Yeah Im not sure what the folks before were thinking either. I am 4.0 student with a "C" in this class. U must attend class sick or not (tells students not to share notes)Reviews done by TA as quickly as poss...with a lot of "and u have notes on the rest..." comments. Test are meant to trip u up. HORRIBLE class. enthusiastic but aloof prof
Prof. Blair says at the beginning of the semester that he doesn't care if you show up or not but that's not true. There are mini quizzes at the beginning of class to check attendance. I have a 3.0+ GPA, but this is my hardest class of the semester. I've heard the same from others in the class. Prof. Blair your class is HORRIBLE.
Took Prof Blair for Summer II, LOVED him. He was really entertaining. Only problem i had was with his tests.. Tons of "a&b, but not c" type answer choices which trip me up EVERY TIME. Without these, i would have made an easy A. Instead i ended up with a B.
Lecture was enjoyable. Exams are multiple choice and can be a challenge. I did not study but I did read all the stories and attend lecture. I received an A.
I LOVED this class! he kept my attention and was funny too! he gives you the info you need to get an A . the final is all the tests combined. keep the old tests study them for the final and you will ace it. i made a 95 on my final because i studied the old exams! He is hard no doubt but if you really try its an awesome class!
I enjoyed Prof. Blair. I took him in Summer II. Reading wasn't always essential since he covered so much in class, but I recommend it. Take notes if you want to do well. Sit toward the front and don't ware a backwards hat if you don't want to get called on a lot. He made a lot of pop culture references too, which was a plus. Very approachable too.
This professor is HARD. I dropped the class before the 2 day midterm and so did my other friends who were in the class. B on the first test, failed the second. He's a cool guy, but he loves his poetry, and that's the hardest thing for me. If you don't like poetry, you'll probably fail.
Goes over poems and readings in class and hints toward test questions. But reading outside of class is recommended for tests. Fairly easy and enjoys what he does. Attendance not mandatory but gives out surprise (easy) quizzes for attendance grade.
By far one of my favorite profs. ever. He is EXTREMELY EASY, he practically GIVES you all the test answers word for word. I never read any of the poems outside of class, he went over almost all of them exactly what you need.He is also really lively and funny. He clearly enjoys what he does and makes it fun for everyone. If you can take him!
One of the best profs I've had. He is lively and engaged, encourages participation, and has a true passion. His classes do emphasize poetry, so if poetry is not your thing then don't take Blair. Tests are all 25 questions and really easy. There are five pop quizzes that he typically saves for low attendance days. Great class, very easy.
Blair is amazing. I lost my book after the second test and continued to make A's on every test after that. He makes sure to go over questions that will be on the test during lecture. I recorded his lectures so that i could get every single detail written down. Its simple go to class...get an A, skip class...struggle for a C. Hope you like poetry
Dr. Blair is amazing. He made Amer. Lit. very interesting. He's very helpful and the tests come from the reading. To get an A you have to come to class take notes and read. It's a very cool class to take. Im not an english major and he is by far my favorite professor I have ever taken. I took him in 2009 and I still remember the readings. Awesome!!
Great, enthusiastic teacher. Encourages attendance through quizes. Pay attention to lecture as test questions can be tricky and are based on lecture and readings from the book. Glad I took the class.
He's awesome! Just show up to class. I literally did not read a single reading because he tells you everything about them so you don't have to know. Go to class and he will give you test answers. He's cool!
I had this professor over the Summer for English Literature. You read a lot (duh), but if you attend class and actually LISTEN to what he says while taking notes, you'll be fine. During the summer only multiple choice exams make up the grade. Fun professor, I learned quite a bit. Highly recommend him.
I took Blair for Summer I and while he was a great professor, the class was really difficult, as a 5 week summer course would be. I advise taking him in the Fall/Spring where you're not cramming 15+ poems and short novel stories in 5 weeks. Test were really hard as well as he pulled random quotes from a poet and wanted you to know the line.
I took this in the summer so yes it was cramming in a lot of reading into a short period. But his lectures were thorough and interesting. He is very entertaining and knows his stuff. Attendance is not mandatory but tests come from lectures and reading. So go, listen, enjoy and you'll do well:)
Easy just show up to class and pay attention to his lectures. Many of the test questions comes from what he says. He does give quizzes for attendance purposes (which are random but easy). You don't have to read, but I recommend it because it helps with class discussion. Offers extra credit for students. Made an A.
Blair gives out around 8 tests over the semester and one the day after spring break so get ready to be studying a lot. But many of the test questions come from what he says during lectures so go to class! Sit near the front if you want to understand him, he is sorta unclear at times and doesnt like to repeat himself
Taking SummerII with him. This guy rambles & gets off topic very easily. He's also inconsistent when reading to us, sometimes leading to rambling. His humor is mostly bland. "Review" is just Q&A w/TA. He DOES read the poems in class, so I never read them. Tests are easy mult. choice, just remember text and lecture material. Easy but boring class.
I took this class over the summer. He is funny, laid back, and makes expectations very clear. If you go to lecture and read the material, you'll be fine. Not sure if you have papers in spring or fall, but in summer we only had multiple choice tests.
He is super chill and super funny. I took his class fall of 2013 and only had one essay for the midterm, other than that all the exams are multiple choice and as long as you go to class and just read the material you are pretty much guaranteed a really great grade.
Blair for poetry prez.
A passionate fair professor that will keep you amused! I had no interest but LOVED this class! Easy if you do the reading, LISTEN to lectures, and study!
Cool teacher. Didn't do as well as I hoped because I put almost no effort into this class. Attendance isn't mandatory except he gives out quizzes towards the end of the semester. All of the test answers are online somewhere on quizlet. I read only one book, but you probably don't need to do that as long as the quizlets are still online. Pretty easy
He explains everything very well, gives tons of hints that "this will be a test question!" and has just the right amount of quirk to keep the class interesting. Test are 50 MC, w/ an essay added for the mid-term, & final 100 MC. He's pretty in-depth on the material covered, so definitely go to class! Gives the occasion [very easy] quiz, too.
The book is mandatory so is attendance he gives easy questions like whats your name also he gives you test questions read the reading carefully he asks detailed questions like what poet said this line. class was never dull. 1 essay (midterm) easy
LOVE THIS PROF. Super into what he teaches, makes class interesting. Easy quizzes on low attendance days. One essay in the whole semester (midterm before spring break). Worships the book. Will point out test questions. His old tests are online somewhere. Recommend for your eng credit for core.
Very good professor! He makes the class fun and easy to understand. Relates well with his students and is helpful with answering questions. Has random pop quizzes that are super easy questions. Has review sessions for tests. Tests are easy if you takes notes and pay attention in class. Overall a very good teacher. I'd recommend him highly.
Comes off as pompous at first since he's tenured. The class is very reading intensive so expect to spend hours reading and studying. Come to class after each test day because he always has an attendance quiz right after to hurt those who skip. He gave out extra credit that bumped me up to an A. The reading materials are excellent too (Grendel).
I literally did no work in this class, barely listened, and studied an hour before the tests and still got a C. If you actually tried, it'd be an easy A. Quizzes are very easy and usually have no answers. He just asks you to put your name on it and turn it in. Final is cumulative and 100 questions, but that was my highest test grade so don't worry.
He's a great professor honestly. He's very animated during his lectures and clearly passionate about what he does but his tests are so freaking hard!!! oh my gosh so hard. I'm a transfer student from community college so I've had some experience with hard college classes before coming to Texas state but this class has the hardest tests ever.
Great lectures, great class. He was one of the most interesting professors I had this term. Knows his stuff.
Small class lots of participation. Having an opinion is pretty much the most important thing to have ready for class. If you turn in your stuff, read, talk, and show up, you're good to go. He didn't really grade, it was mostly just participation. Very difficult to not ace this course with him. I would take his class again.
He is a great professor! Really breaks down the material to make sure everyone understands it! His tests are all online. Only had to write 1 essay all semester. Does pop quizzes that count for attendance but the questions are as easy as "what is your name?" He is very helpful!
This guy is an amazing teacher! He made learning poetry fun and the test are so easy. They are normally 25 questions but if you go to class and pay attention you should easily get an A. They also have many of his questions online. He has 3 books to read and I didn't read them just went to class and Sparknotes. I ended up getting an A easily.
If you actually read the books required you will get better test grades. He usually repeats old tests. (try: Quizlet, ect.)
nice nice
Blair is a great professor. Strongly suggest taking his class. You will need to put in work to make an A but as long as you are willing to do some studying it is an easy class. Use Quizlet to find reviews and study those and go to class and you will make an A for sure. He makes class interesting, I never dreaded going to his class.
Great professor, His lectures are hilarious and insightful. if you show up to class and read youll make an easy A
He was an incredibly entertaining professor. He can hold your attention pretty well even if literature isn't your favorite subject. His lectures tell you a lot of what his exams will be over and a lot of times he tells you to look online from previous students exams for questions that may be asked. Overall I really enjoyed the class. Go to class!
This class was one of the "highlight classes" of my week. Basically, it's more advanced story telling, and rogue memorization based heavily on quizlets. Although a lot comes off the quizlets, this doesn't mean to not pay attention; you'd probably only end up with a C. Pay attention, use quizlet, and do one of the two optional extra credits A+
I made an A in this class from using the quizlets online. When he says he uses old exams he isn't lying. Awesome reading material, strongly recommend this class with him.
Loved this class. Dr Blair has a very commanding voice and he basically reads the important parts of the literary works to you. Think of it as a bedtime story from a beloved uncle, that you get tested on. It was not hard but you needed to be there to hear which parts were important and you should remember.
Blair is so cute. Not like Ryan Gosling cute, but like a grandpa. He literally gave us 17 test questions straight from the final during classes. He does that for every test. It really helps. Honestly, the test questions are all on quizlet and repetitive. He doesn't really make up new questions so it's easy. If you fail you were probably on ur phone
Blair is a very animated professor! He reads the important parts of poems/stories during lectures and he'll point out the important parts. Go to class and take notes! He randomly gives test questions during class, so don't leave early! 1 essay (midterm) and 1 extra credit essay, and all tests are on quizlet ;)
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Idk why he has such great reviews but he is awful. Not clear at all in lectures, and the questions on the tests are so random. I basically memorized quizlet and still made a D. No homework, all tests and he doesn't curve them. He gives answers to questions and they'll be counted wrong on the test. He's awful.
He has a loud projecting voice which is useful in huge lecture classes. He gives random test answers on days where attendance is low. Be sure to attend lecture, he'll mention 98% of the questions that will be on the test. Don't slack off in reading.
Professor Blair was my favorite professor. His lectures are great, but you have to pay attention or you'll miss something. Reading is important! You don't necessarily have to read before hand, but you need to read before tests. The tests are multiple choice. If you read the material and take good notes, you'll pass.
Easy A if you go to class and take good notes. He always tells you what is going to be on the test pretty much verbatim of how it appears. Old tests are on quizlet so with the notes from class, reading the material and quizlet for back up, there should be no problem getting an A. He's also funny and not at all boring which helps.
I took Dr. Blair for Creative Writing and Creative Writing seminar. He is legitimately the most wonderful man on campus. He is funny and kind and will go out of his way to listen and help you. I never took his lit classes but I imagine they're not too bad. I am so so sad that he can't be my professor anymore. Take him if you can! He's wonderful.
I loved what we read and how he explained things. Exams are all your grade consist of, and there are 2 chances of extra credit. Memorize quizlet and you'll be fine. Gives test questions away in lecture.
Dr. Blair is a fantastic teacher. If you go to class, you'll pass. All the tests are multiple choice and most questions are found on quizlet. He makes the material interesting and he will make you laugh. The book isn't necessary, you can find most of the material online or in the library.
He reuses questions from past tests, and you can find many of them on quizlet. He also gives test questions during lecture. I read what we discussed in class, but you can definitely pass by just going to class and studying old quizlets.
Dr. Blair is a great teacher. He practically tells you in class what will be on the test in some instances. He also reuses old test questions which can be found on quizlet. He gives a couple of chances for extra credit. He really enjoys going over the material assigned to read.
Fairly easy class, but the final was much harder than anticipated by anyone. Take with caution about the final.
There are about three to four books to read throughout the semester plus short stories, but they were all books i would read again. Make sure to write down everything he says in class because he will tell you over half of the test questions randomly in class.
Dr. Blair is a good and passionate professor. In this class you will read a few poems, one play, short stories and one short novel. He gives out test questions in class which are very helpful. Tests are 50 multiple choice questions only with the final being 100.
My favorite class this semester. I bought the book, but I haven't opened it yet. This guy literally hands you the test answers in class, so be sure you go. His old tests are posted on quizlet. Go to class and read the old test questions on quizlet and you're good to go. Funny guy. Seriously love him!
This class is a breath of fresh air this semester! Everything we have covered so far you can google and read along. He keeps the class entertaining with his side comments and humor. Brilliant man who know the material inside and out. If he says it out loud, it will be on the test! Bonus: His old tests are on Quizlet and he lets your know it.
Dr. Blair is amazing. His lectures are great and easy to listen to. Test can be tricky but most of them are online so you can study from there for the test. I loved his totally recommend him to anyone that has to take this class just to get it out of the way.
Go to class, take notes, pay attention, read over the notes, & check out Quizlet. Easy A. I didn't read any of the readings all semester, but never missed a class. I finished the semester with a 93. He gives you test questions in class, especially when people leave early. He also lets you keep all your old exams so study those for the final.
Depending on what you are looking for this class is a must take if your just trying to get by. Don't take that the wrong way tho Dr. Blair is great teacher this class may seem like a joke because most the test are online, but if you want an A i recommend doing all the reading because he does throw in new questions that aren't online. Fun teacher!
Blair was such a passionate professor and kept lectures interesting. I never did any of the readings, but I showed up to class and took good notes, as well as studied quizlets people had made from past semesters. His tests are very much based on old quizlets you can find online! He'll give out test questions and answers if people leave early.
As long as you pay attention in class you will do fine in the class. If you put in the effort to read everything and study hard, you will do very well in the class. Textbook not really required as you can find most everything online. Very funny teacher, lectures were generally not boring.
Dr. Blair is a decent professor. He's relaxed and gives out some of the test questions if there are few people in attendance or people leave early. Textbook isn't required. I never did any of the readings. Attendance isn't mandatory. I skipped class frequently but all of his tests are on quizlet. Still easily passed the class with little effort.
John Blair is such a great professor. TAKE HIS CLASS, hes genuinely interested in what hes teaching and the material isn't terrible. Show up to class, he gives out actual test questions and the ones that aren't told to us are literally verbatim on quizlet. Blair is fun to listen to, and makes funny jokes. Only one essay, the rest is multiple choice
This was a super easy class! Everything can be found on quizlet! I highly suggest him, I only got a B because I bombed one of the tests. If you can find someone who has the test from the previous semester it's almost exactly the same. He changes maybe 10 questions each semester and he gives away answers in class when people leave early
Dr. Blair's American Literature class is my favorite class I've taken. Like everyone says, all of his tests are on quizlet, but pay attention; Dr Blair really cares about what he's teaching and knows what he's talking about. His section on African American Literature is particularly fascinating. TAKE THIS CLASS.
Save yourself the trouble of listening and taking notes, just study quizlet. Professor loves to say sexually explicit things to get reactions. After the first two unnecessary sexual phrases, it gets old and annoying. Easy class.
Messy and lazy guy. Hasnt changed the test ?s in 20 yrs so theyre all online but dont let that get your hopes up because he has a ton of them & they could be any random 50 on the not dropped tests. You are only graded on these tests & sometimes he wont print enough tests so you have to meet him outside of class to take the test on your own time.
I have an A in the class so having a bad grade is not the basis of this review. The actual material isn't hard. However, having to spend time studying for the most ludicrous tests over trash material. He's also unprepared and does not take responsibility for his own actions. He doesn't print out enough exams and screws everybody because of it.
This is an easy class! Would definaltey recommend! Dr. Blair is knowlegable and offers a great deal of extra credit. All the tests are on quizlet, just study two or more and you should be fine! Funny professor and good!
Class is alright. You dont have to buy anything but was pretty boring. Just make sure to attend every class and take notes. Tests are over his lectures.
This professor was one of the best professors I've had this year. This is also THE EASIEST class, like he does not care if we post the whole exam on quizlet. So everything is literally on quizlet. He's very funny and gets the attention of the whole class. Very easy A kiddos
Easiest A of my life. Only 5 exams, 1 of which that contains an essay. The IA's are super easy graders though. His lectures are actually enjoyable, and he tends to give out test answers during his class, which is mandatory. EVERYTHING is on quizlet. Take him if you want an A
Took Dr. Blair during the summer and it was the easiest class ever just as long as you pay attention. He gives you test questions for being there but that's his way of "attendance". He knows all of his tests are on quilzlet and literally tells you to study them. Amazing guy
TAKE HIM. Such great lectures, makes material interesting. Clearly loves poetry and makes it understandable and invites discourse and participation. Most test answers are on Quizlet. Funny, enjoyable and enlightening throughout. Great literature and author selections. I wish he would do an InterDis Approach to Walt Whitman!
Go to the lectures he will help you understand the readings and really teaches you something. Gives out free test questions in class when there aren't a lot of people there. Tests are on quizlet.
His tests aren't too hard and at first I didn't know what to study bc he says to study the quizlets. To get an A make sure to study several quizlets, and make sure to read the questions thoroughly, he has a lot of a and b but not c etc. He makes you read 2 full books, but they are actually good and not too long.
Dr. Blair is an amazing lecturer and truly knows what he is teaching. As a lecturer I would take his class over and over again, but his test are a different story. His test are unbelievably hard even if you read the material and do not get any easier throughout the semester. This is only an issue because the only grades in the class are test.
This class is so easy. Literally show up, take notes (I never read any of the material I just took lecture based notes) and study quizlets and you're golden. He is a great professor though, he made the material interesting. I definitely recommend him!
Definitely one of the easier classes I've taken. Tests are all surface level information, the texts he chooses to study are interesting. He hands out test answers like candy if you show up to class. If you don't show up to class, Quizlet is your best friend. Funny guy, thoughtful analysis.
If you don't pass the exams I don't know what to say- there are tons of Quizlets with word for word test questions and answers, which he literally tells you to study. Amazing lecturer with great discourse who truly cares about the content, which makes this course easy to handle. Really sweet and funny. If you need to take Am Lit go with Dr. Blair!
The class is very surface level and easy, and he's an alright lecturer. However, you HAVE TO pay attention in class and go every meeting time because 100% of what is on the tests are discussed in class. The tests are confusing and often have questions with no right answers so they just end up getting thrown out during grading.
Hated the class material, loved the professor. Blair is hilarious and really down-to-earth. While this was the most depressing class I've ever taken, the tests are easy. Everything is on quizlet. Only had to write one essay, and I put next to no effort into it. Also, if attendance is low, he gives out free test questions.
Fantastic lectures, never stall and very passionate about his profession. Dont have to go to class bc he gives a schedule with what to read and links, but def helps to attend. Does sometime give out questions and answers if he sees attendance is low. Tests are pretty easy tho most questions are on quizlet. Cant really go wrong with Blair
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! He changed all his material so its not on quizlet anymore. He literally said after the first test that everyone did so good that he was going to make it harder, and then he actually did. No one made higher than a C after that. Stay away from him!!
Amazing professor! Highly recommend taking his class. All of his tests are on quizlet and he basically tells his students to study off of quizlet. Does not require a textbook and there is no homework. Easy A if you study for his tests!
He cares about the subject a lot and the course has interesting content. Tests are basically memorizing quizlet and reading sparknotes for an A. Only annoying thing is that you have to show up most of the time and it feels like a waste of everyone's time. I'm an adult, don't force me to show up to pass.
He did a good job explaining the text that we had to read. But, show up, because whenever attendance was low, he liked to give us really specific answers to the next test.
If you miss class you are likely to miss important answers to some of the test questions. He makes the class entertaining and pretty much stress free.
Great professor. I enjoyed the class, he is funny.
I had Blair for Summer so we only had 4 tests. He is hilarious and engaging so GO TO CLASS or have someone who does because he gives out test questions frequently. He will even tell you that most of his questions are on Quizlet and to study that. Easy A, just make sure you attend and study.
If you take him you cant be studying the day of the exam or even skipping class. The only grades are 3 exams and the final(comprehensive). Everyday is another poem, another play to go over. Hes interesting but his tests are hard because they are so specific. So you really really need to study. I regret taking him, but you live and you learn.
You can tell he loves what he teaches. I never paid attention in class but passed the tests, ended up cramming for every test which wasn't the best because tests are over lots of things. Tries to make class interesting. Quizlet is great for his class. The TA (Taylor) was a blessing when it came to studying and was very caring.
Lectures were long and covered lots of material, so going to class is very important. Overall, he explains the poems and stories in-depth He also gives out bonus questions when lots of people are missing the class.
Dr. Blair is a really cool guy. His lectures aren't that bad. I only attended maybe half of them. If you get really bored of them, just scan in and leave. I realized this trick a couple of weeks into class and it made my life heaven. BUT, the best thing about Blair is that even though he has an attendance policy, he didn't end up holding it up!
hes a great guy and knows how to explain things well, but if you leave early or there is low attendance one day, he will give you test questions. quizlet is VERY helpful in this class to say the least. its easy if you study quizlet and pay attention in lecture. he makes the class interesting enough to keep yourself focused on it.
okay so I really hated this class. I just scanned in and left every class because it was SO boring. I failed the first exam (even tho I went to class for those lectures) but once I figured out that his tests were on quizlet, i started making 102's and quit going to class. still helps to read the material tho. easy class but I can't stand the prof
Almost every questions on his exams are on quizlet, and Dr. Blair takes pride in that. But there are many questions and answers that he gives out during lectures and they are important to know for short answer exam questions. He makes the lectures interesting and he shows a lot of videos
Dr. Blair was one of my favorite professors. While we do not use a textbook, he does expect you to do daily readings of assigned poetry, drama, and fiction. However, listening to him lecture was amazing! His tests were beyond easy if you pay attention and give effort. He made the class amazing and I would definitely take him again!
Hands down my favorite professor at Texas State. Dr. Blair is brutally honest and always has an amazing sense of humor.
ENG3348 is an informal class. Blair treats it as such. He's very easy-going, friendly, and and knowledgeable. He fosters discussion so easily. He can be blunt sometimes but never rude. His feedback is quality.
A pretty chill professor. Some entertaining lectures, others aren't but he knows the material well. Attending class is important as he will give out questions from exams for free if he notices low attendance. For the final you will have to write a good amount but if you know the material you will do good he isn't a very tough essay grader.
A good professor who knows and loves his content! The class has a 30% participation grade, which made me extremely nervous, only to find out a few days before finals he calculates that grade based on attendance, so show up, read a poem or two and you'll be good! About 4 quizzes and can be hard if you don't pay attention to the lecture.
Blair is a kind man,but if u are like me and just needed to take a higher level class to complete advanced hours, be prepared. I wish he would've made ex credit or had more grades other than tests, participation,&the final papers. Participation makes up 30% of grade & I said smt in every class & still didn't get a 100 bc he doesn't act. keep tally.
Professor Blair's class is tough, but engaging. Participation is 30% - just show up, read a poem, and you'll be golden. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for quiz prep. Overall, a rewarding experience if you're willing to put in the work.
Dr. Blair is amazing! I have never learned or been engaged much with prior English professors, but it is completely different with him. Pay attention in lectures! He is extremely knowledgeable about all of the plays/ poems we have discussed! I am very easily bored in English classes. Dr. Blair makes it fun to learn!
Professor Blair was great! He made the lectures fun and interesting. Attendance is optional but it does count towards your participation grade. 4 exams plus the final were our only grades but he goes over everything in lecture and will even give you all the answers. PAY attention to lecture & take notes. Easy A
The tests were all info he said in lecture. Good class for non-english majors. Take very thorough notes and you will easily pass. He is likely a better in-person prof. If you take him online, he will be elated if you show genuine interest in the material. He said multiple times that he knows we don't read or care. Show him you care! Give him hope!
