This guy is so bad!!! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! He never explains anything and when u go to him for help he tells you to read the book.... The material would've been easy if he knew how to do it.. This man is dumb as dirt and i hope he is not teaching anymore.

This class was awful. I paid attention and attended class until the first test. I barely passed and even with taking notes, listening, and asking questions. He seems to be very smart he just can not teach. I ended up teaching myself and using the online resources to help me. Take another professor if possible.

Prof. Botzum is really not a bad guy, but his class is really terrible. I took his College Algebra class after taking AP Stats my senior year of high school. The class isn't hard, but terriley taught. He always uses irrational numbrs in his examples, making his lectures hard to follow because he ends up with crazy numbers.

Terrible!! Run for your lives. Literally does not know how to teach, don't know how he still has a job. He took forever doing problems on the board without explaining and even would have the wrong answer and the students would correct him. He takes 15 minutes to do a problem but expects you to do it in 1 minute on the test. DO NOT TAKE HIM!

This teacher is the worst, he doesnt explain anything and you will have to teach yourself everything. People ask questions and he yells at them for asking questions, constantly corrected on examples he does in class. Ignores every guy in the class when going around helping, only goes to the females, awful teacher

Botzum is literally the worst professor. Half of my class had an F and I don't know how I passed. He would do problems that lasted the entire class and then realize he was wrong the whole time and leave it up to us to correct it and figure it out. I stopped going because being in his class would just make me even more confused.

He is a caring guy, and he wants everyone in his class to succeed, but he is extremely hard to follow. He rambles and goes off on tangents which makes no sense to the things we actually learn. He is a hard teacher to follow but will help you if you there for help. But, you should definitely reconsider him as a professor given the chance

Botzum was a terrible professor. I spent hours in his office and he barely helped me. Do not take him unless you really have to. He doesn't know how to teach and gets angry when you don't understand a concept.

I went through more than half the semester thinking I was bad at math until I started teaching myself and realized it was just his inability to teach. If this is the only math class that's available for you to take, I highly recommend starting/finishing the homework early in the year so that you can pass his class. DO NOT rely on his lectures.

This professor makes no sense. The only time I have ever understood anything in that class was when we had a sub. He is also rude and sarcastic

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF! I'm good at math so despite people telling me not to, I took Botzum. Big mistake. This is the most incompetent prof I've ever had, he teaches you the bare minimum, but the hw and tests were way harder than what he taught us, and half the time we were correcting him. He also has no common sense, idk how he is allowed to teach.

He gave you lots of notes to take in class which didn't help at all on the homework or the quizzes. All quizzes and homework were on Pearson which made it difficult to understand. The tests were difficult because he used everything off of Pearson. He also was rude whenever someone corrected him even through he was wrong half the time.

He is a nice guy but is very rude when the class would ask a question. He expects you to know everything when you are in the class to learn. Also if you ask him a yes or no question he will go on a tangent and not even answer a question that you didn't even ask. He marked me wrong when my answer was what he asked for in the directions

Bottom was terrible. He never actually taught material and just thought we'd know it. He's incredibly smart but he's too smart. He gets confused at his own problems, hates when people correct him, and he appears arrogant. I didn't learn anything in this class.

If you are taking MTH103 for your math DO NOT TAKE BOTZUM! He is extremely repetitive and teaches the same things multiple times and never actually finishes teaching a complete lesson on everything you need to learn. Its basically a self taught class with a little professor help. If youre going in bad at understanding math, he is not the one!

Worst professor I have ever had, terrible at explaining course material and offers no extra help. Online course material was clear then once I got to class, he would explain it in a totally confusing way. Test questions do not relate to material presented in class. Overall very rude professor, do not schedule classes with this professor.

quit literally the worst professor. never have I ever been in a class where the professor rambled for so long about one problem over and over. his teaching style is very sub par. when switched to online learning it was the death of my grade. it took him 20 min into the lecture to even start teaching. ;long story short DO NOT TAKE HIM TO PASS!

I would not recommend at all. Switching to online this year was hard enough, but he made it horrible. He is not easy to get a hold of and is very hostile in emails. He is unclear when he is giving assignments and I have spent so many hours teaching myself. Overall do NOT take him unless you want to fail.

I found Dr. Botzum to be very hard he expects you to know a lot about math coming into the class. He knows how to teach math but for students like me who arent great at math its a nightmare. Once we went online its been terrible its like he doesnt think we have any other classes and loads on the work. Doesnt give u enough time to do it.

He can be very rude at times. he's smart when it comes to math but sucks at teaching, he overcomplicates problems and the stuff on the test is nothing to what he covered in class. If you're not good at math, don't take him. He will just confuse you. I had to learn by myself. He also gives quizzes for every class which can really hurt your grade

Stay away from him if you suck at math. He expects you to know everything, teaches horribly and is very rude in emails.

This class was one of the worst classes Ive taken. Hes unprofessional and makes things more complicated then what they are. We took an online exam that took a lot of time and then he told us after that it was a review. Made plenty of errors with our grades which confused most students in my class.

Honestly doesn't seem to care about whether his students are understanding or passing the class. Laughs at students for asking questions then gets upset when no one wants to talk. It feels as if he's all over the place. won't learn much from the lecture so be ready to teach yourself. Also the quizzes/tests will be on stuff you didn't learn.

The only people that actually enjoyed having him as a professor are the people who enjoy seeing people do bad in life. Math used to be my favorite subject but, he changed that for me. However, he did help me realize that I shouldn't major in mathematics because I would have to deal with people like him. please don't take his courses.

This course was perhaps the most frustrating class I've taken. This professor rambles on, it's just difficult to learn from him, he is very educated in mathematics however doesn't teach well. Quizzes don't exactly match what he teaches in lectures.

DO NOT take this class if you have the chance. Professor Botzum was nice at first, and as the semester went on, he became extremely rude, passive-aggressive, laughed at students for asking questions, and so on. Also, his exams and quizzes hardly relate to anything learned in class during lectures. He makes them so difficult for no reason.

Started out nice and helpful became angry, condescending, and disrespectful. Doesnt have respect for students especially those that have questions. Dont try contacting him bc he will not answer or he will send a passive aggressive message

Would not recommend taking him for any classes. Everything is on Pearson math and is very fast-paced. ALSO I have him right now and we have a surprise exam tomorrow when finals are literally next week... This test was not anywhere in his horrible syllabus and I don't even know what sections the exam is on but the study guide is 9 pages long.

i suggest taking someone else, he is a good guy but cannot explain concepts for sh*t. He expects you to know everything and rushes through everything.

Just be prepared to teach yourself. He will not teach you the math he will go on random lectures on stuff that doesn't matter.

He was one of my worst professors i have ever had. He made me break down in class and he made fun of me. He made me feel like i had to withdraw to save his grade as a teacher and he is one of the worst people i have ever met. He is not worthy of his 2 star rating...

This guy is the worst math professor I have ever had. He doesn't know how to teach at all. Nice guy though. I should have 100% failed the class but he gave me a C, I feel like he was forced to pass his student though.

He is really hard to understand when he lectures, and oftentimes will not accept other methods of getting to the same answer. Usually very passive-aggressive when answering questions and humiliates students who do not have a good understanding of content. Gives takes 3 weeks to teach a unit or 3 days, no in between. I do not recommend him.

A sweet guy but the worst prof I have ever had. Does not provide accommodations or any leniency. For one of the in person exams we had, he was out sick all week and we had to teach ourselves the material. Attendance is mandatory and he goes on long talks about random things that have nothing to do with math. Does not answer emails or questions.

Botzum was a generally nice man but a terrible teacher. The material had to be learned outside of class or in his office hours if he wanted to get a passable score on his tests. If you're looking to get a B- or above in a math course do not take his class unless you are looking to barely skim passing it.

If you aren't good at math going in you are probably going to struggle. Often makes math mistakes when writing notes and gets off topic very easily. I had a hard time sitting through the class.

Get ready to teach yourself how to do algebra, because he does not cover all that he needs to in class. The homework has much more content than he explains. He is also incredibly disorganized and unprofessional. He often makes students feel bad, and does not respect the fact that not everyone is good at math and understands it quickly.

if you are a person that needs for the professor to explain things in detail to make sure you understand, this is not the right professor for you, he goes through stuff without explaining much and its hard to keep up with him.

Mr. Botzum is a great guy to talk to but horrible teacher. He barely explains things and gives maybe one example each lesson. If you put in work to teach yourself the lessons you will be fine. Personally his office hours did not help me.

I had to take Botzum again because there were no other teachers. He had better personal communication, but again blames the students for not knowing the content when he cannot teach the content. He also changed how quizzes were done halfway through the semester. He does not give back test grades fast. Do not take if you can help it.

You could ask him something with the most straightforward answer and he would still manage to make it confusing and theoretical. I went to his office hours to go over my quiz, we got through two questions within the entire duration because he was overcomplicating and adding more layers the topics. Friendly and approachable, cannot teach.

Don't take this class unless you're willing to basically teach yourself the material. Botzum is largely unhelpful in class, asking him questions will give you an answer... just not related to your question. He's a nice person, he just cannot teach the material. Study for tests and do the homework, homework is given unlimited attempts and it adds up

Professor Botzum is a very hard professor. He grades hard and explains some things in a much more complicated way than it needs to be. He does offer help and try's to stay flexible. Attend every class and take a lot of notes. He expects you to spend 15 hours a week studying his material. He is friendly but just teaches at such a high level.

Mr Botzum is a nice and friendly guy, just horrible at teaching. He overcomplicates the easiest equations making the material unnecessarily hard to understand. I asked him multiple yes or no questions and they were always met with some weird metaphor of an answer that did not help at all. My classmates and I basically taught each other.

He completely refused to give us a review for the final so a lot of the students took it upon themselves and made a study guide to try and pass the final. I will never recommend him to anyone.

You need to do everything yourself. Use the my math lab and ask for practice exams and extra problems. Use outside resources that are less confusing since he is not straightforward.

Terrible. he is a nice guy, but horrible at teaching. only show up for the institution's attendance checks. You will have to teach yourself everything. He is willing to give help, but it doesn't actually do anything. He has been told many times to slow down and explain but his only response is "math is hard".

Do not take this class. He is not a good teacher and doesn't know what he's talking about half the time. White-out is his best friend because he is always messing up when trying to teach. He makes everything so over complicated. DO NOT TAKE make sure to get another professor

AWFUL TEACHER. DO NOT TAKE. DROP THE CLASS. You will become so lost. He jumps around at every topic. If you ask a question he twists it into some other question and leaves you even more confused. Awful teacher, if you go to office hours he doesn't even explain anything to you. Do not take.

do not take this class, do not take anything where John Botzum is teaching. If you do please pray that no one dies or you don't get sick or you have a job or a life outside of his classroom. even if you have perfect attendance the lecture is so confusing and he will just tell you to learn it on your own.

Very hard to understand. He jumps around and gets sidetracked on other topics. Is like 5 minutes late every class. Took trig and Calculus with him and every day is harder than the last. In trig he did allow retakes which was great but in Calculus he does not. I can never understand what he's saying, he doesn't dumb down or explain anything.

Don't take this class. The lectures are very confusing and he spends about 10 miniutes going over the history of the person who made the theory. His tests are long, if you dont go to the class or study you wont do good. He starts a new section with a minute left in class then rushes through it the next class.

I only took his class for a month before I tapped out. His lectures were made up on the spot, and I mean literally. He did not have notes and would use a paper and a projector and come up with examples on the fly. While I kind of admire the knowledge he had to be able to do that, he did not convey it in an understandable manner.

The amount of HW for this class is ridiculous, considering you may have to go through it several times trying to teach yourself how to do it. His classes are only the basic concepts that he expects you to be able to apply the advanced concepts and word problems. Makes a lot of mistakes during lecture itself, and help is hard to understand from him

John Botzum can not handle criticism or conflict. You can go in for help but he will make it look like you are the problem. He does not teach class properly and is super condensing. The stuff he says is on the tests is not and it has really impacted my grade. He can't even get his own problems done correctly. Do not take please.

I will say I did learn but not as well and as much as I should have. John just does his own examples and doesn't actually let the class go through it. He's not that helpful and can be a bit rude at times. It's hard to learn his lectures are really bad. Don't take his class if you struggle with math because he won't help at all.

Do not take unless you wish to teach yourself everything.
