Coming to the class with the intent of getting into a writing workshop rather than a class, I was impressed with the level of assistance John provided to the class with regard to publication. The course, as he teaches it, will work for a wide variety of students.

john, rather elegantly, altered my consciousness on a daily basis. he is all chalk dust and belly-laugh and green pen. he ruined me and i loved every minute of it.

I fully agree with all the comments about John. He helped me learn how to truly write an effective essay. The guy has a great sense of humor and he is very informative. He totally changed my writing style. There are still some good teachers out there! Take his class if you feel you are worthy of laughter and learning.

This is a great professor. Very, very helpful to his students. He has workshops to help us clean up our papers, before we get the final grade. As well as in class sessions for fellow students to critic eachother's papers.

If you go to class consistently, turn in stories on time, and make him laugh, you'll get in A. Expect a comfortable atmosphere and don't be shy to speak up in class (I think he prefers participation over the mysterious thinker). But seriously, turn in your stories on time.

Professor Brantingham is an extraordinary faculty member at mtsac. Treats you as a friend and will proofread your essays before you turn it in for a final grade. He doesn't believe in stupid questions so he will not make you sound stupid in front of your peers. Very warm and friendly professor that prepares you for English IC or any higher writing

John is one of the coolest professors at Mt. SAC. i looked foward to showing up for classes and see what crazy question he wants you to answer. extremely funny and you can go to him at anytime for help. i HIGHLY suggest you take this him.

Most professor would just give you an F, but he ALLOWS you to redo your essays. If it wasn't for this, I never would have passed 1A. He was more helpful than any other professor I've had.

Best ever. I work full time, so he showed up at 7am for a month every Monday to give me tutorring just cuz i asked him. He helped me to rewrite the papers on email.

Brantingham is nothing short of genius. He is one of the greatest professors to have ever taught at MSAC. Class sessions are very energy driven and humorous. However, he does not stick to a straight teaching rhetoric of Critical Thinking and argumentative writing; his teaching style is very outta-the-box as he makes you think globally.

Had him for English 8A and 1C. Best teacher I've ever had in my life and I will never forget him. Makes you want to actually go to class even though he's not a stickler on attendance. He's LOL funny and should be a stand up comedian. A little more challenging than some of the other ENGL teachers I've had but he's always in his office to help.

Amazing teacher! He actually cares about you learning vs. just doing the work. Therefore, he'll let you rewrite your essays. There was no text book. There was, however, a paperback book which we used to write our papers. I would recommend this teacher to almost anyone. I only wish I could take him for every English class.

I took Brantingham for Lit2-at 1st i was apprehensive becuz every1 in the class was an honor student.But, he made it comfortable.2 essays in the semester, read 6 novels, he gets you to actually think about what's going on in the novels.He's very comical and likes to start the class with a question as he calls rolls. Fantastic Teacher! I learned more in Brantingham's class than in any other English class that I've ever taken. He's interesting, funny, and intelligent. Pretty much the greatest teacher on campus. Not only is he friendly and funny, he honestly loves what he does, and loves to help! As a writer, I was stuck with a case of writers block for the longest time, and he helped me (through one of his textbook projects) escape my rut and start writing again. He is VERY entertaining! In his class, 2hrs go by faster than expected. Grades easy on essays-gives a rewrite and will tell you exactly what you need to change to get an A. Brantingham is one of the best at Mt. Sac. Super laid back class although it was an honors course. Every lecture felt like I was at a stand-up comedy show; dude is hilarious. Taught me how to write the perfect thesis and great papers easily. Grades fairly and lets you re-do one paper (SAYS one, but I doubt he'll say no if you ask for more).

Overall GREAT professor. I would highly recommend him. I took him for 1AH and 1CH and he is very entertaining, encouraging, and is willing to help you improve as a writer.

Professor Brantingham is very helpful and clear on what he expects. It was pretty easy but he has no problem giving work back if it is done lazily, which is great!! Only thing i didnt really like is the books given for the essays but hes a great professor regardless.

John Brantingham is an extroverted, helpful professor unlike any I have experienced at Mt. Sac. Taking the fiction class, John has helped me become published, and even enjoys doing so. His classes are always filled with energy and worth every penny.

Prof Brantingham is a fantastic man! He is quirky and such a book nerd, it's awesome. His class challenged me, but it was always within reason. His 'research paper' was only 1500 words, as were is other essays. He is always more than willing to talk about anything, not just english, which is awesome. I wish I could take him again! Professor Brantingham is a great teacher. His class is very interactive and he's always available to give you feedback. Often he will grade your essay in front of you and give you the chance to revise it if needed before turning in the final draft.

Well, he is funny, but he grades very hard. I got 4 A and 2B in my essays. I also had 30 points for extra credits. However, he gave me B in final grade. So disappointed

Great writer? Then he's the professor for you. Professor Brantingham will definitely enhance and promote your skills. English not your favorite subject, then this class wil give you a run for your money. His course consist of: two in class essays, 4 papers, quizzes, and of course a final. Reading is mandatory and just like any other course, don't skip class.

A great professor that cares about his students success. Tries to be available for his students beyond office hours via email or facebook. Expects participation during class. Lots of group work if you like it, if not he doesn't force you. Turn your papers in on time because he deducts 10% everyday its late. Funny and engaging overall. Recommended!

Great and humorous professor. Five to six essays plus final. He is there for you for any help needed on essays. He makes sure students understand the assignments and helps them through it. Eng1A shot my confidence down in writing. But this Prof brought it back up. He's a tough grader, but i never knew you could teach writing at that kind of level. I learned so much from him & enjoyed this class so much. 6 papers + final. let's you rewrite your paper for a better grade. HILARIOUS. Gets to know you on a personal level. TAKE HIM.

He's a lot of fun and very passionate about English which is good. Gives good feedback, you can turn in an essay early for him to look over just to make sure you're on the right track. Really emphasizes on thesis, topic senstances and citations. Occasionally repeats lessons in class but very kind and helpful wants to see us succeed.

Very friendly lenient, and smart professor. He will work with you to make sure your writing improves and is very helpful in class and at office hours. Truly wants to see you do well. Grades everything through Google Docs. Essay subject matter is all poems which make essays a little harder. Take him, the class is challenging, but not grade risky.

Had a really good semester with Professor Brantingham. He's super nice with grading essays since the main thing he checks for is that it's not confusing and topic sentences and thesis have to be very informative and argumentative. He's really chill and gives second chances to help you improve your paper even after the due date. Take his class!

Highly recommend to take his 1C, especially for students who want to transfer to UC's because he will convert an essay topic to UC transfer essay and help you to edit it. Always visit his office for feedback before you turn in every essay, and you will surely make a strong A. He is the one you must take!

An excellent ENGL 1C Prof. He helps students to go into a higher level of thinking through his lectures. He gives a clear outline of what should be in an essay. Papers are submitted through shared google docs so no paper needed to turn in. Is accessible outside of class if you need help. Gives feedback on the essay after its turned in.

He was always engaging during the lectures even late in the evening. He has clear grading criteria and will challenge you to take on complex ideas. I truly enjoyed the class. Show up to class and you will be fine, he is very helpful during office hours. He is a great person, someone that will be there for you even after your class is over.

I am so happy I got into this class this Spring, regardless of the pandemic. Professor Brantingham is amazing. The instruction received from professor and reading material used in class opened my mind to a higher level of understanding. Take this professor!

Professor Brantingham genuinely cares for his students. When classes went online, he extended his office hours by 21 hours throughout the week. He wants you to succeed. There are four essays throughout the class; extra credit can be given for each by doing certain activities (paper exercise). My grade was never in jeopardy in his class. Take him!

Best English Professor Ever! He seriously is amazing. Gives you a lot of feedback on your papers. Extra credit available! Having a hard time with a paper? GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! It really helps! Took his online course& it was NOT bad!(: need to keep up with your reading to understand the topic of each paper! & attendance is important to pass also!

Brantingham is a really solid pick for a professor. He not only offers tons of extra credit but he'll let you redo all of your essays (4 total)! He is also very nice about helping you during his office hours. If you have him as a choice, definitely choose him. His online class can be a bit boring but nonetheless, still great.

Really great professor. First semester in college and taking critical thinking and writing worried me since Ive never been good with English but brantingham is extremely helpful and clear on what he wants. he wants his students to improve and to come to him. 100% recommend him if you can take him

Professor Brantingham is very helpful, he offers a lot of extra credit and will meet with you during his office hours. Also you are able to revise all of your essay's. work in groups a lot especially for the quizzes. would most definitely recommend this professor!

Professor Brantingham is such a caring professor. If he sees you struggling he'll reach out and help you. There were 4 essays with min of 1500 words. It seems hard but you can revise all your essays and he leaves very specific advice that you're guaranteed an A. He also always accepts late essays. If you're scared of taking English, take his class.

He's the best!!! His class may seem heavier than any other ENGL1C classes but taking his class does wonder for your writing skills. There's no easy A. IF you really want to learn something, to gain knowledge, then take this class!!!!
