Good class. Instructor is very friendly, knowledgable, and clear. Highly recommend!
Brodney's class is easy and he's uber helpful. He has a great sense of humor. Show up to class, do all the labs, ask questions when you don't understand and your garunteed a good grade. Seriously he's happy to help. I was scared to take this class after dropping James Davis's class and having Tsung. I was relieved a little more after every class.
Good teacher and very helpful. The labs are pretty easy. If you don't understand something he is very willing to help and explain. I highly recommend taking his class if you're considering it. Just be sure to do the outside of class lab. It's really easy.
Great teacher. Very helpful notes. grades on a curve... very helpful person, answers every question with very helpful answers. makes a not-so-easy subject enjoyable! Highly Recomended!
Very nice, laid back teacher. The material is not easy, but he is fair and the curve is generous. Trys to keep it interesting with humor. I recommend him if you are going to take Astronomy.
this guy is great.
Really easy and fun class! He's a GREAT teacher and makes class fun. His sense of humor is really funny as well. He gives a TON of extra credit, especially before a test. As long as you go to class you should get an easy A! Tests can be a tad-bit tricky but still doable. if you have an 85% or higher, u get an 'A'! You won't regret taking him!
He'll answer any of your questions. He gives you links to websites that are very helpful and cool.He allows plenty "padding" with in class assignments, quizzes and extra credit. The tests are mult choice. He allowed us to use a telescope(: He's funny. The class is fun and interesting and he obviously loves Astro-physics&teaching.Take it.If you study=A
This class was very enjoyable. You shouldn't miss class since we do most of the assignments in class. Fitzgerald explained the assignments very well and would explain any concepts that I wasn't clear on. He obviously enjoys the subject and that carried over into his teaching.
Brodney is a totally great guy but if you don't follow every class then you WILL fail. His study guides seem simple but often they wont translate to the test, TAKE NOTES because you will allllways have a quiz the next class, however the questions will be random. I think if he was a bit more organized I wouldn't have felt so misguided.
This teacher Rocks! He knows what we can and cant remeber during a single class. He welcomes all questions and makes you feel good about being in his class. How cool is that?! Awesome teacher
The labs are easy. He is very very helpful! One out of class lab which was easy. I took ASTR 110 a year ago and just took ASTR 112 this semester. That's EASY. Only downer you don't get alot of time with telescopes. But easy class take him!
Really good teacher!!! He is awesome, and he allows every student to succeed. If you study and come to class and listen to him, his tests are fair. I really liked this class, he made me interested in astronomy. I definately recommend him!
I took this class in the summer and enjoyed it. He is a teacher that I will absolutely miss at Grossmont. Even though the subject is boring, he makes the time go by quickly and add in a few jokes here and there. There are no homework but a lot of note taking. There are a lot of quizzes. All his quizzes and exams are multiple choice.
Amazing make it really easy to understand the matrial straight forward easy going fun professor.
he is great!
SUPER-tricky tests; he really loves to throw curveballs, by re-wording questions. Some math IS involved, so take Physics, to understand the formulas. Earth Science & Chemistry is also covered from the start, so be prepared for that, too. Don't do the field trip - it's a serious waste of money, and you WILL be disappointed. Games were fun, though!
He is an awesome teacher! Easy to understand, doesn't go on tangents, and sticks to the point.
I had absolutely no interest in taking this class beforehand. He is a good teacher, the only thing that really bothered me were his facial expressions. Most of the time I couldn't look at him. He tries to make jokes that aren't funny, which is funny. You will need to study and take notes and be there every class or you'll fail, but it's not too bad
Cool guy, kind of boring to listen to at times doesn't discuss current astronomy event which was kind of lame. Moderate tests you'll do well I'm this class as long as you attend, take notes and study.
went into course very excited about astro lab.this teacher not only makes you feel stupid about a simple question,he continues to do so.some of us havent been in school in years and need a refresher.he introduces the lab for that day and leaves it at that. he runs around the class like a chicken answering questions.you end up waiting 30 min 4 help.
Very helpful and super funny! A good teacher who is clearly passionate about astronomy. Be sure to go to class, there are a lot of notes to take and the material is kind of confusing without an explanation or opportunity to ask questions. Studying is a must; tests and quizes are a bit difficult without doing so.
Super cool guy. There is virtually no homework beyond actually studying and the test and quizzes are not too hard. He makes the class somewhat enjoyable to go to and I had fun learning too. Overall, pretty simple class.
Cool teacher. He's really chill and pretty funny. Clear lecture but study at least 1 hour before each test. Not too hard though. Could have gotten an A if I had gone to class more.
GREAT class! very enjoyable! so much fun. Before every exam, the class before is a study guide session where we play a game that goes over the material in the exam...we also get starbursts and milkyways :D definitely attend because a quiz is given every week. if you miss it, you get a 0...
Good professor. Very passionate about astronomy. This class was pretty easy, if you study and attend class to take notes and quizzes, you should be able to get an A. He was nice and helpful. Made a lot of awkward jokes, but it was funny. Overall a good professor.
GREAT GREAT GREAT class! He is extremely passionate in the topic. One of the best Astronomy teachers at Grossmont. He drops a test, and several quizzes, than curves the grade. He sets you up for success. He is quirky, and has a good sense of humor. Never a dull moment in class.
This class was awesome! He is funny, dorky, just totally awesome. The material is wonderful and he teaches it well. I completely recommend him!
Great instructor! Has lots of silly jokes to liven up the class, even the early morning classes. Tests are once a week and the questions are completely random and give you an idea of what to focus on for the next exam. would recommend this instructor for any astronomy class or lab
GReat Games for Study days before tests. Cheesy, but funny jokes. Helpful videos and links. Young, energetic, and passionate. Tests are pretty darn hard, and I really thought I was getting it, till test time, so study. Almost NO homework!
Fantastic professor one of my favorites at Grossmont. Very helpful and hardly relies on textbook. Through notes and study guides I earned an A+ in the class without opening it. HIGHLY recommend.
He is awesome. Makes astronomy fun and interesting, and most of the quizzes and tests are straight from the slides so if you study your notes you're pretty set. Plays a class game before every test to help you. Young, good looking, smart guy. Offers extra credit, otherwise attendance is mandatory for points. Textbook is helpful but not necessary.
Professor Fitzgerald is the man! this is hands down my favorite professor at Grossmont. He is extremely passionate about Astronomy and that passion spills over to his students. He strives to make every student successful and values every opinion and question that is asked. I highly recommend this professor A++
Prof. Fitzgerald is a wonderful teacher! I have a terrible Astronomy lecture teacher and I learn so much more in Prof. Fitgerald's lab! He is really great about helping you answer your questions without just giving you the answer. You learn more this way! Would absolutely take a class with him again!
Great professor. Entertaining lectures if you like dry humor, and they are always straight forward. He teaches the material well and basis the tests and quizzes off lecture notes, even drops the lowest test and quiz scores.
Great professor, cheesy humor, very likable and chill. Loves his subject
Took the lab, and it is pretty east so far. A lab every week, and get to work with people so its not like you should fail the class. he always there to help you out. There is one mandatory lab outside of the class. All labs are 100 points, midterm is 200 and final is 300. Closed book, but keep all your labs so you can study.
Excellent professor! Extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the cosmos. He is always happy to help and has an exquisite personality. I had a wonderful experience being a part of his class and walked away with more than just a good grade. GREAT PROFESSOR!
SHOULD BE VOTED #1 PROFESSOR AT GROSSMONT! Best professor I have ever had in any college! He makes class fun and interesting while making sure everyone is understanding all the material. Our class gave him a round of applause before taking our final to thank him for teaching us. I wish I needed more sciences so I could take more classes with him.
BEST PROFESSOR AT GROSSMONT! He keeps class interesting and entertaining while making sure everyone understands the material! I wish I could take more of his classes. Best professor I have ever had.
Overall great professor. Very clear and helpful. The tests are based completely on the lectures so you have to pay close attention, though that should not be very difficult as the lectures are funny. I had him for astronomy 110 and I did fine without the main textbook, however the classwork is pulled from the workbook so you will need that one.
He made class very interesting. He cracks a lot of corny jokes and makes many TVmusicmoviecomic references in his lectures. Tests are easy when you do the study guides. I definitely recommend him.
Plenty of XC options and really fun in class test review games giving the chance for more XC. Fitzgerald makes astronomy interesting and relatable. He's got some funny jokes and a good attitude which sets the atmosphere for a positive learning environment. I enjoyed his classlectures and he returns grades ASAP which was nice. Fitzgerald is Rad!
Prof. Fitzgerald is funny in an awkward way. At first, he'll make jokes that no one will laugh at. But as the semester grows longer, everyone will be on board with his cheesy humor. He gives great, entertaining, and interesting lectures. 90% of everything on the tests is in his lectures, so no book is really required. Great teacher. Great class.
Prof. Fitzgerald is the nicest Grossmont and Cuyamaca teacher I've ever had. The greatest personalty, and extremely easy going guy! It took the lab with him. It is not that hard, but you've got to work hard for an A.
In general, Physics isn't the easiest subject (at least for me). But, he has made it clear enough to understand everything and he's always willing to help. His lectures are posted online after class w/ all of the equations, which is helpful. Study guides are what's basically on the test, which is another plus. Lowest test score is also dropped!
Great professor. His homework is 99% videos you have to watch and they take forever (like 3-5 hours a week), and homework is 15% of the grade, so you basically have to do it. Really interesting class though, his lectures are funny and he is very helpful. He doesn't take the entire class time, so you'll be out nearly have an hour early every day.
Do not TAKE!!! He makes you watch videos and his tests are really tricky!!! If you like wasting your time watching 5-10 hrs of videos a week be my guest. Also, the videos have to be watched it will know if you are paying attention with an eye popping up and you can't leave the page. Also, there are fill in the blanks homework quest with those vids!
He is a sweet professor. Go to his office hours and he will help you. Not a lot of time in class to ask questions. Lenient grader on exams. Online HW were probably the toughest in my opinion. He tells you what to expect on exams (take good notes). Good luck and don't let this class scare you away the first few weeks. Hope this helps!
Worst professor ever, do not take his class it's so hard, more than half the class dropped it and he marks off points on in class assignment if its a minor mistake, and he makes you watch these stupid videos and they're 10 hours long each week, he thinks that his class is the only important class we are taking.
Do not take his class you will regret it! the online homework is very hard and time consuming, I would spend 4 hours a week trying to find the answers with my classmates help, we really struggled with it and they re not even worth many points. Like 30 questions would be worth 1 point like that ridiculous. Each question should be worth 1 point.
Online videos are horrible and a waste of time, who has time to watch videos for 8 hours. You have to actually watch it because you have to click on the eye that pops up to make sure you're actually watching it and if you miss it you have to start over. Some videos are 1 hour and 30 mins long.
Don't take this class expecting to not spend time doing homework for this class. HW assignment + online videos due every week. The online videos take HOURS to complete and they cannot be skipped.
Online HW +Videos are weekly and many hours upwards of 10 hours a week of videos and you must press random buttons through out plus fill in the blank questions that follow the book and take about an hour to do. Must have textbook and lecture book. Everything is out of 5-10 points except exams out of 100. No papers. STAY ON TOP OF THE HOMEWORK!!
Be prepared to spend hours just to do the homework. Tests are very hard. Offers extra credit but not much at all. Have to show up to class or you will behind.
Took the 3 hour lab, and he was great! One of the most willing to help teachers I've ever had! Just be patient, and he will make sure to get to your question. One lab assigned each meeting, each worth 100 points, with the lowest 2 scores being dropped. Two exams, the first is 200 points, second is 300, but extra credit! I earned about 40 points EC.
Took his Lecture and Lab class for Summer. Very easy classes, just show up and do the in class assignments. Tests are easy as long as you study, and minimum HW in Lecture class and zero HW in Lab class. He's willing to answer any questions you have, and his reviews for the tests are fun and engaging. Definitely worth taking during the summer.
I took him for the summer class. If you leave class early or come late you won't pass. There is a quiz at the beginning of every class and a class assignment that he grades at the end of every class. He offers one 10 point extra credit that I highly recommend you do. He drops two quizzes and one test not the final (there was three test plus final)
Took this as summer class, it was a pretty condensed class but not overwhelming. Gave very little homework, quizzes almost every class though. Lots of extra credit opportunities. He's a very nice professor, very approachable and friendly. I would recommend this class.
Read-details can help in quizzes,Test,&review games-for extra cred points. Participate in terms of being on time to take quizzes and answering questions. LEAVE YOUR CELL PHONES ALONE! Accepts special situations on case-by-case. Class grp projs to end class. Looking through telescopes-COOL&Fascinating. Study PPT, chapters, & notes-will help to pass
Participation&GRP Projs-BE THERE OR FAIL! Always willing to help to understand the lab work, the math involved when you're rusty or just don't get it and how to use your calculator (don't get too fancy). However, remember this is not a math class. He indeed was able to get me to truly see the awesome vastness of our Universe. Study Labs for tests.
Fitzgerald was absolutely amazing for PHYC 110. He is obviously passionate about the subject and wants his students to succeed. He gives opportunities for questions and will never make you feel dumb for asking a simple question. Biggest complaint I've heard from others is the homework website. Stay diligent and you'll get an A no problem.
He is very passionate but I do not recommend this class unless you aren't taking other ones. He gives extremely too much homework. I probably had about 100 hw assignments including hour videos. It's too much for an intro astronomy class.
Professor Fitzgerald was so much fun! I took the Saturday evening lab and there were only 6 of us. Very engaging labs, and he is very easy to talk to and help you understand the point of the lab. Very eye opening, and fun opportunities to gob ok the roof and use the telescopes to look at the planets! Highly recommend!
His lectures were engaging and interesting and he really was knowledgable about the topic. But, the homework was way too intense with hours of videos to watch every week and book work also. Way too much homework for an intro astronomy class. If you go to class and study throughout, you can easily end with an a.
I went into this class not really giving a hoot about the sky and what's in it and left fascinated what lies beyond our stars. Professor Fitzgerald was without doubt one of my best teachers yet. He was engaging, funny, and really knew what he was taking about. I learned a ton and was always having fun while i was in class
The class over all was ok, but the online homework was rediculous. There is so much and if you have other classes be prepared to stay up till midnight trying to finish it. You will not pass your tests just off the lecture notes you need to pay attention to the online questions and videos.
His hw is just videos of astronomy that you watch, but make sure not to get behind on them!!!! Other hw is fill in the blank questions and you answer them using the book. He's a really great instructor and really funny. Thought I would have a hard time in the class but really got into it. Only got a B cause I fell behind on hw videos.
His class is super hard but omg he was my FAVORITE teacher. He makes these little faces that were so funny. He's so smart and loves Astronomy. Lots of homework but very informative. The tests are a little confusing so pay attention. Great teacher though.
Great teacher. He really knows his material and wants everyone to succeed. Loads of opportunity for extra credit. Like those below me, tons of homework but the homework helps! Don't fall behind on the videos or your wont get an A. In-class participation is also crucial to your grade as you have to complete an exercise every class. Great teacher!
BEST PROF. he will help you if you need help lessons are not boring tons of homework
Came in this year thinking I wanted to be a marketer, now Im on a path to become a physicist bc of Fitzgerald. Super interesting class.
Fitzgerald genuinely was a great teacher. He was extremely homework heavy and in class exercise heavy, but he makes tons of jokes. One thing to notice is that he has an online document that matches your lecture. You'll need both for your tests. He'll also drop one of your lowest tests, but spend enough time on your homework and studying.
Don't let his kindness fool you, he is the toughest most specific grader I have ever had. 70+ hours of online videos!!! Marks you down even if you have the right answer but are unsure. Missed a class because of a funeral service I had to attend that was during his lecture and he would not let me make up the 10 point assignment (which is a lot).
Teacher gives his expectations the first day of class. No more than three tardiness. He explains all of the material in class and will help students out when needed. When walking into his class room, his instructions for that day is on the broad which is also on syllabus. You can pretty much follow along the syllabus. He makes the work easy.
I would take his class again in a heartbeat!! Its easy to see his passion for Astronomy and the Astro sciences. He is good at conveying the awe inspiring amazing ness that is our Universe and whats in it. His class made me wish I was better at math so I could pursue a degree in a space related field.
Save yourself time and DONT take this class. I would say it take 8-15 hours to complete the weekly homework. Ive never had to do so much homework in my life and his homework sometimes doesnt even match the book. You want a stressful class that takes up a lot of your time? Then this is your class. Goodluck.
He is an okay teacher but the amount of material he expects us to know is too much and very stressful. u turn in an assignment after the lecture that you are still trying to process he grades & has online homework videos u spend endless hours watching and questions from the textbook you have to type in. Be careful W/ this class LOTS of studying!
Love this professor! I wish he could teach the next Astronomy class. He makes learning fun and makes a lot of bad (but hilarious) jokes. There's a good amount of weekly online homework, but you have the semester to complete it. Plus, the online videos are usually pretty interesting. Don't skip! You'll miss important info and exercises that add up
Brodney is a gem. He is a bit awkward especially with the jokes he makes but that adds to what makes him so great. He lectures with PP everyday and puts a star next to anything that will appear on the test. Tests are the majority of the grade and watch out for the homework as well. It is online but can be quite time consuming. Would recommend :)
Honestly I had such a great time in this class. Professor is funny and makes learning interactive and enjoyable. Don't be fooled, you've got to study the material to get good grades here but thankfully Brodney makes it easy to learn and is always open to questions and concerns.
There is far too much online homework. It is very frustrating to find answers in the book for hw. The online hw program is not written by the same company so some things don't match up. You will spend at least 4 hours on hw alone. If you truly don't have an interest in this subject you certainly won't retain it. I would not recommend this class.
Professor Fitzgerald is such a great professor. I took his class for intro to physics 110. We work in groups during labs and lecture. It's always random groups. He drops the lowest exam grade. He does give some extra credit, but it's rare. He gives a lot of HW. Take notes he goes over what will be on exams. Don't let the first few weeks scare you.
This was an online class I wish I had taken a person. He is an amazing lecturer that will help you understand the material really well. Best to take this class during the spring or fall because of the amount of work during the summer. Tests are timed, on a specific day and time. Got an A by the skin of my teeth, never worked so hard!
This class was one of the hardest class i have ever taken i only took it because I needed the credit but lots of homework heavy reading and if youre taking multiple classes this one will take all of your time he doesnt care about your struggles i message him for a project i turn in wrong he never answer and didnt change my grade Terrible class.
really enjoyed taking the astronomy with him. He does go through content kind of fast so be sure to pay attention during lectures. All the assignments are clear and fun to work on. Some of the questions on the exams are worded strangely but if you study, you should have no problem. Overall, great professor.
He keeps the class interesting and adds jokes here and there. He also gave chances to help with what the class might not be understanding every week.
I usually never rate any professors, but he is by far the worst professor I have ever had. He gives out a lot of homework, if you do everything correctly but forget one simple thing he'll give you a C. He is a really hard grader, isn' considerate, gives a flat 0 for late work. His tests were extremely stressful, not giving enough time to take it.
I cried through every exam I took for this class because he would provide study guides unrelated to the material, he wouldnt actually teach, and he expected you to teach yourself complex physics to correctly answer an introductory courses questions. Average for the class was 40% and I barely scraped out with an A. Dont take him.
Quizes every week alongside 1-2 other assignments each week. exams every couple chapters. Doesnt give enough time for exams. Grades incredibly tough, you have to pay for the extra credit options. Zoom meetings non-mandatory and i found they didnt help at all. Study guides useless and they never cover the actual exam material. Its do-able but hard!
I took an online lab course with this professor, and felt that his grading was inconsistent. There was no reading or lectures, really, but he was helpful for the labs. Additional effort was not rewarded, just correct answers. I would say, all in all, it was a class. He wasn't any more invested than I.
His online class is extremely hard. The video lectures did nothing for me and could barely hear him half the time. Everything is graded harshly, and you have to pay $ to be able to do extra credit (unethical). Tests are 1 question at a time, and cannot go back to questions., nor is there enough time to finish. Very stressful, very difficult class.
This professor does not communicate well, and his grading structure is the worst of all time. I would never recommend this professor be careful taking him he's super strict with every single thing he puts out.
I took his lab class online. The labs were hard and long but interesting. You can call him into your brake out group anytime and he will help you. He is very detailed at grading and checks everything. So you do have to make sure everything is correct or you lose points. Overall enjoyed the class even though it was a bit challenging.
I took Astronomy 110 and 112 this semester with Professor Fitzgerald and the classes were difficult but he is the best professor I have encountered. He likes participation and any questions he answers with detail. 110 was weekly lectures however he did a good job preparing us for the assignments. 1000% would take this professor again, he's amazing!
This course was wonderful. I took it online, and had a great time learning all about astronomy. The textbook is provided (online format) so no need to rent/buy. The lectures are thorough and entertaining. The homework varies between worksheets, DB's and exams (6 questions max). Professor is super funny, and you can tell he cares :) EC is available
This is one of the worst teachers at Grossmont college. Hes a tough grader if you get one thing wrong or have a different opinion he makes it down. This causes your grade to go down by a lot. The study guide have nothing to do with the exams. The stuff on the study exams dont match the exams or the lecture for that matter.
Not an easy A However he teaches this great. Practice exams were amazing and were very similar to the tests. He answers any questions with no issues and helps you on assignments and homework if you need help. Keep in mind he has graded assignments every class you can't make up if absent so if you are gonna be absent alot this class is not for you.
This class was labeled as online course but was technically asynchronous. He grades super heavy on the homework for absolutely no reason. His lectures are from like 2 years ago and he offers no help what so ever. I would not recommend. You could be on your death bed and he would not care, he would still not let you turn things in late.
Obliterated my interest in the subject. Grades all homework to the extremes. Wasn't much of a help when reaching out to answer questions over email. Lectures also seemed to be recorded 2 years ago and were just reused. Questions asked on the test also weren't gone over much in lectures, which sucks because those were 55% of the final grade.
No hw just classwork, dont be late or youll miss the attendance assignment. He makes astronomy fun. He grades tough but is always there for help if you ask and really appreciates participation. Exams based more off textbook, and take good notes as lectures in person have more info than posted ones on canvas. Great teacher!
The class seemed to be difficult for many people but Professor Fitzgerald made it easy to digest, his lecture videos are often short and everything in them and assignments is on the exam. He makes a lot of jokes during lectures and seems to genuinely have passion for his field.
He was generally a good teacher but his class is definitely hard. Do not take this class if you have big responsibilities like kids. Attendance matters A LOT. His exams and quizzes are unfair, a lot of questions are things not covered in lecture or the study guide.
The professor is awful
I would not take this class if you work. The lecture videos are old and lengthy and there is a lot of textbook reading. There is discussion posts due every wednesday and 2 worksheets every thursday. There is a quiz every friday and you cant go back once you answer. He grades very hard and you wont find the answers in the textbook or the lectures!
A hard-won B. He's a likeable teacher, always responded quickly, but the test/quiz material was almost impossible to study for. He provided study guides, which helped a little, but I would find every answer on them and still would encounter near impossible to answer questions on the test. Answers provided in Canvas would sometimes contradict.
He is a very good teacher and is clearly passionate about the subject he teaches. He does grade strict, but he grades fair and whenever you have a question he will answer it with clarity. The tests are easy and as long as you show up for the labs and do them with decent effort, you will get an easy A.
I struggled at first, but once you get the routine, it's easy to keep up. You work in groups and present group projects every day from that day's lecture. He drops your lowest test score. The main work is weekly discussion posts and tests.
