exams are purely from the notes and he does expect you to know stupid details. But still relatively easy. Only problem is he takes attendance.
Best teacher I've ever had. Interesting class, lectures and hes very helpful. Tests arent very hard. You cant go wrong with this guy.
he is one of my best teachers ever! he is really nice, interesting and down to earth! he makes everything clear, and the exams are strait fwd. If you can, do take him, u won't regret it!
great teacher!
Def one of the most engaging profs I've had at Concordia. Very clear delivery and amazing ability to make material relavent to the students. Do yourself a favour and take a course with him.
He is truly amazing. I loved him, he is up to date the best teacher i had in university. Very interesting class, engaging, teachs you what you need to know, not all that **** we do not need to know. Easy test, do the question he give you in beginning all on test. just take him you will not regret it!
Great class, very current information, great teacher!
Amazing teacher! The class is very interesting. Exams are very easy. He's an easy marker, I highly recommend!
He's amazing, I love him. He's funny and down to earth, and looks like a hockey player. The class is interesting, he doesn't expect you to know unimportant details. Projects are interesting and exams easy. But he's a maple leafs fan!!!
Very!!!!very!!! Very!!! Good Teacher!!!!take him
the best in the department.follow what he says and you'll get an A 100%
Attendance is a must, he doesn't post his notes. There isn't much work involved. Studied for three hours and got A+ on his exams. Assignments did more attention though. Great teacher. First class I never fell asleep. Easy elective. He can be cranky, just come to class on time and don't distrupt class then he'll like you. Very interesting material.
One of my favorite teachers. always prepared for class and tries to keep things as interesting as possible.
definatley a great teacher. Plus hes a leafs fan! so an extra bonus if you from ont. He knows his stuff well, lots of notes, give a decent amount of time to write them, just dont get distracted. spelling errors on test, but no biggie. he made a class about globalization interesting. not many can do that.He is one of the better teachers ive had.
One of the better profs thus far
Awesome teacher! Although it is a lot of work (2 in class tests, 2 assignments and one exam), the tests are very easy if you study and you are given at least four weeks for each assignment. He tells you exactly what's on the final as well. Very helpful! But TA is a harder marker than he is, so make sure to do your assignments really well!
Professor Buskard is one of the worst teachers in the Geography department. He is not interested in helping his students when they need clarification on assignments or tests. AVOID THIS TEACHER!
I agree with the previous comment! Horrible teacher! Most people in the class got in the 60s and 70s on the assignment and tests. He is rude and not approachable. Don't take this class!
Terrible teacher! Avoid!!
I cannot believe he teaches environmental studies when he has a carbon footprint of 12, drives a truck, lives really far away (i.e. uses alot of fuel) and is basically all round the worst environmentally consious person I have ever met.
fairly easy class. Does not post lecture notes(must take your own). He is somewhat on the rigid side, you know, kinda stiff.. but hes good.
Great teacher, took his class as an elective and considered transfering into geography afterwards. Go to class simply because it's interesting and you NEED your own notes to pass his exams. He cares about his students and the subject, you can't ask for a better prof.
It was my second class taking him and he's a good teacher. He's to the point and doesn't waste your time with nonsense. You do the work you get the grades. I've gotten back to back A's with him by simply attending the lectures and doing the work and I'm not an A student. Those who are complaining about him are lazy students who expect free grades.
Best teacher Ive ever had. Ive had him twice now and I think hes great. Just make sure you go to class and pay attention, which isnt hard to do seeing that hes very interesting ad really cute
BORING, absolutely demagogic, mainstream and general. Some readings are non scientifics. He projects videos EVERY single class. Can't believe he's a university teacher. To AVOID if you want quality!
The material is somewhat hard, but he is a very good teacher. Super interesting. Make sure you do the readings and quizzes every week and take notes in class and you'll do fine. Kinda hot too!
I assume most of these comments are from CEGEP students. That's where this 'teacher' should stay. He seemingly has no regard for any of his students, and appeared as though he disliked us all. Easy enough A but not worth dealing with this guy.
The class was interesting even though my major isn't geography. But he really seems to think that everyone is out to cheat him in some way and doesn't have very high regards for his students. I wouldn't take him again but it was an easy enough A.
Very good teacher. Class is engaging and easy to follow. Grades pretty fairly. Quiz almost every week but if you do the readings and attend class you'll do fine. Doesn't post his lectures online so going to class is a must. Definitely one of the best teachers I've had. Very willing to answer questions after class.
Prof. Buskard is a great professor when it comes to the material. He explains everything very clearly and well. Some of the political views in his lessons I don't agree with, but as far as teaching goes he is one of the best.
Very good teacher. Tells you in advance what he expects from you, explains everything very clearly. Has a very deep understanding of the subject and cares about helping his students do well. His also not so bad to look at for 2 hours straight...
highly recommended,such a great teacher
He is one of the best teachers I've ever had. I'm not the most attentive and enthusiastic student, but I never missed a class because the material he teaches is interesting & everything he says in the lectures is pertinent to the exams. This is not an easy course, you will need to attend classes, & study, bt if you do you should be fine.
He is the best teacher that I've had at Concordia. He makes the class exciting, interesting and makes you want to go to class. He wants his students to succeed. You have to go to class and take good notes though if you want a good mark because he tells you what's on the exam and doesn't post his notes online. Take GEOG 204 with him, he's the best!
Doesn't post notes online, so you'll have to attend class. You have to take quizzes online related to the assigned lecture. Very easy exam and topic if you are already interested in this field. Excellent speaker, gives clear instructions and good sense of humor. Definitely recommend taking this as an elective.
I loved taking geog 101 with John, was always excited to learn what was going on in the geography realm. Class was taught on St Cath Street !
Great prof. Just make sure to go to class and take notes. Reading the book is extremely important. ( Going to class and taking notes is a must if you want a good grade).
Professor is very clear and if you have any background in the subject at all you will have no problem. Fair grader, tests and assignments aren't too hard. However, as some have mentioned, he's a bit rude and not very approachable. Teaches environmental classes but, by his own admission, lives a highly polluting lifestyle...
Doesn't post his slides, talks pretty quickly. Good teacher. Just don't be late or email him too much and you're good.
John is something of a man. Not too sure if I like his vibe or not, but what he teaches is SO interesting and he is super organized and clear. CLEARNESS. He will repeat: Ok, make sure to know this. My hand was hurting after class because lots of notes to take. You shall make it to every lecture if you don't want to be a little behind.
Lectures are very interesting, makes me want to learn more! Good teacher, hard to approach but he is kind and understanding. You need to keep reading to get a good mark.
Professor Buskard's a good teacher and covers everything that needs to be covered with occasional tips of what terms will be on the exams but there are no classes for reviews. So for those with some knowledge of geography or those with a good memory go for this course, beginners (like me) you will need to read quite a bit to catch up.
Geog 210 with John Buskard was an interesting class as the material was fascinating. The prof is very clear and if you attend class you will become more knowledgeable in the subject matter. He can be a little grumpy outside of class time depending on the context. A very charismatic man nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed the class...
He doesn't publish the power points so you have to go to class and take everything down.
He is a really passionate and inspirational. The course material is interesting and relevant.
Every single lesson in this class was extremely interesting for me. I was almost about to change my major to geography:) Mr. Buskard is very friendly, helpful & patient. Classes are not easy, but just read the book that is, by the way very interesting. You can expect a few online, 5% home quizzes and a writing, very educative assignment.
I really enjoyed this class. Mr. Buskard and his Student Assistant Angie were very helpful.
This class was very inspirational. Expect a few online quizzes and one writing assignment. The book is essential to pass quizzes and exams.
Great teacher, he makes everything really clear. His classes are super well structured and he keeps everything interesting with a healthy dose of video viewings in class. I took two classes with him and I found both to be really inspiring. I would highly recommend any classes given by him.
Took GEOG 204 as an elective. You definitely need to do your readings and attend his class; don't skip! He's a helpful and funny guy all in all! If you have questions, see him during his office hours! His quizzes are easy, as long as you did the readings. His exams are tricky, study well for them. Do not take this class if you want an easy A!
Amazing and caring teacher! Inspirational lectures! Would recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn more about the pressing issue of climate change.
John was my favorite professor as an exchange student. He had very engaging lecture, clear on assignments/grading, provided a lot of insight on world issues. You can tell he cares a lot about his students and the topics he discusses. The work in his class isn't too hard but just enough to check your understanding. Highly recommend this professor.
Super interesting class and teacher (he knows his stuff) and gives great tips to succeed in his class. The final was a bit hard but it is easy to get good marks with the quizzes and the term assignment. Would 100% recommend!
John is really a good prof. You definitely have to go to class since he does not post any slides or anything. He is very passionate by his job and teaches the material in a very straightforward manner. Would definitely recommend.
Amazing professor and very interesting course. Loved everything I got to learn from him.
Grading criteria not very clear
Professor Buskard is great teacher overall. However, I find that his lectures sometimes can get boring and long for certain chapters, which only a few of them! Be prepared to read a lot since all his quizzes are based on the textbook. The exams are multiple choices but really mostly based on the reading questions soooo study them!!
I took John's class as an elective. I found that I learned a lot and got a lot out of it, definitely as a general overview. He is engaging as a lecturer and I went to all his classes. He tells you what will be on the tests, so go to class. Would take him again if I could.
Overall great guy, but dont skip class
Good prof with amazing amounts of knowledge. Can make boring subjects pretty interesting. Exams were multiple choice only and fairly straight forward IF YOU ATTENDED CLASS. All material covered in exams are from class. You will not be able to pass if you don't attend class. Online quizzes based on book chapters. Easy elective.
Very interesting class and he made it even better. Gives great tips and you can see that he loves what he does.
Get ready to take notes, because he rarely uploads the power points and you absolutely NEED these notes to pass (so, if you skip you will miss a lot) but he is very very nice and always tell what is relevant or not. Very inspirational regarding environment. You do need to study hard and read 1 chapter/week to do a graded quiz online tho.
You must attend his lectures as he builds on the reading material, and tests on the full content (lectures and readings) he does not post powerpoints so get ready to take notes. Lectures are still fun to attend and very interesting. Very short and easy online quizzes almost every week, 1 project/individual essay, 1 midterm and final. No group work.
The professor was very nice and made the class interesting all the time, but he did not allow us students to get a copy of his PowerPoint, so it would be very difficult for an international student, who was not very familiar with the geography in English and could not write fast, to get good command with the knowledge. Anyway, good and responsible
Best lecturer Ive had so far! His lectures flowed very well, and he did not only read from the slides. He followed the book structure, and he added more interesting content during the lectures. He did not post his slides, so attendance was a requirement. He is very opened to questions and comments from students. Also, fair exam questions.
Everything is on 20, and all the tests are multiple choice. Some can be tricky, so prepare to really know your stuff.
One of the best teacher I ever had! His lecture are very interesting and his test are fair. Attendance is mandatory as he doesn't post his slides and you need to buy the book to pass the exam. He tells you everything you need to know for the test so if you go to class and pay attention, easy A.
One of my favourite teachers! I didnt get a good grade on my midterm (skipped a few lectures / missing notes) I definitely recommend attending every class because you feel more prepared. He made it fun and is passionate. Love him!
His lectures are great, you will learn so many things even if you are not interested in this course, at the end of the semester you will love it. Every week, there is a quiz(chapter related). Also, About 30% of your grade stands for an essay. The midterm was good but the Final was hard. Not an Easy A but truly an eye-opening course.
best prof honestly, nice & understanding especially during online classes. Took it as an elective & a little bit steep imo but if you read the book & listen to the lecs you're good to go. He tells you what comes on the exam so make sure you attend class (reading the book won't be enough) a lot of reading & weekly quizzes but overall amazing prof.
He is one of the bests!!! He cares about students and really wants them to enjoy his class. He also knows how to communicate and deliver the material. Definitely will take it again!!
did not like.
The semester started off pretty smoothly, but he became quite rude as the semester went on. He was also extremely adamant about not recording his lectures or posting his PowerPoints during the pandemic and told students with COVID to "deal with it and find a way to get the notes" which clearly led to some students attending class even with COVID.
grading was way too harsh for an elective, avoid this professor at all costs
He is very good at explaining the material without being boring, he cares about students, i would definitely take any course with him again
I really enjoyed this class with Prof. Buskard. He is a great lecturer and this class in general was super interesting. Lots of reading but nothing too crazy. Would definitely take as an elective.
Took this class as an elective and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Get ready to memorize the book and articles. Will not share his power points with students and if you cannot come to class because you are sick or any other issue, its your problem. Zero compassion & I would say so much more but then this review would probably be blocked.
Super honest and nice person. Lectures can sometimes be a little challenging to keep up with, but they are pretty interesting! Quizzes were dirt easy, midterm and final were very fair and not hard. If you are even slightly interested in any aspect of sustainability, take this course with him I promise you will not regret!
He does not critically examine the topics that he teaches at all, only giving very surface level and "by the book" summaries. Refuses to give extensions on assignments for any reason, something that disproportionately harms disabled students. Completely reuses class lecture material, videos, even term assignments.
guy needs a reality check. Teachers that teach electives and make them hard suck. re evaluate your course content. I'm here for an easy grade and so is everyone else. why take yourself so seriously with your mandatory attendance? no point in making it a miserable class for everyone don't make the same mistake I did.
he was the best professor I've ever had at Concordia
Good Prof. He railed against capitalism and poverty, yet required a textbook. However, I found it in Anna's archive, so use that (and any other class that needs one). Lectures had slides with answers to the blanks provided on Moodle, you miss notes if you skip. Not accessible to students without a screen. Hard class for an elective.
You have to attend every lecture to get the blanks from the slides. A lot of material to keep up with, easy essays, midterm and final seemed easy but I probably just didn't study enough
He gave me advice on how to do well for the assignments and it worked, I got a good grade for the assignments. He is strict about deadlines and wont give extensions, so beware of that. I don't like how he puts so much weight on the exams. The exams had a total weight of 70%. Overall he's a fairly good teacher.
Nice guy, cares about his content which leads to good lectures. Good knowledge and open to in-class discussion. Papers and exams are easy. Fills in blanks of presentation in person so you need to get those filled. He discusses things and says it will be on the exam, very helpful. DO NOT SHOW UP LATE BECAUSE IT MAKES HIM SAD!!!
I found that he lectured well, and the assignments were interesting. Definitely not the worst teacher you could get for this course in this department.
Very knowledgeable prof, passionate about the subject, and clear about his expectations. I would definitely recommend
he is just the best, so interesting and fun to listen to. i looked forward to every lecture with him
Class was not too difficult, online quiz every week, 2 written assignments, midterm & final with 80q's. Most work & assignments are simple, they're graded by TAs. but the final many did poorly. The exam did not reflect the lecture or book notes, grades ended up being curved as many failed. He's a good prof & explains well just hard exam.
