Great professor. Very animated and excited about teaching. Very sweet, understanding and helpful. If you are late to class, you can't take or make up the test. COME TO CLASS!!!!! If you don't, you might miss an essay or quiz or an assignment...
Just do the pre and post test on the my history lab, and you will pass the class. :)
Sweet & enthusiastic teacher who you can tell enjoys teaching!
Really easy class. Show up, Study the pre and post test in my history lab and you get an A...he is very enthusiastic. Thought history was gonna be my worst course...turned out to be my best!!!
I love this class!! If you study the pre and post tests you will make a 100. He gives a lot of extra credit if you show up to class i.e. a one page paper over a video. he assigns one 5 page paper and one group project. Great prof!
This class is EXTREMELY easy. When he says study the pre, post and chapter tests he means that that IS the test, verbatim. You have one 5 page paper which can be a bit challenging because you can only use sources from JSTOR but if it wasn't for the random participation quizzes being 25% of your grade this class is an easy A even with low attendance
Great Professor. Passionate about teaching. Very clear about assignments and expectations. Attendance isn't mandatory but when there is fewer people in class he gives out extra credit papers or answers so try to attend. Overall excellent professor, would recommend to anyone...
Great professor who makes it very hard to get anything less then an A. You have a 5 page paper, 3 chapter tests(more like quizzes), a midterm, final, and a group presentation. He gives random quizzes randomly but not often. He is a clear speaker and covers the subject well. I say go to class if you like learning history because he is good.
Extremely easy class. The tests consist of the pre, post, and chapter exams that are on the online history lab. Nice guy and cares about his students. Take him!
Excellent professor! Not only is the class easy but he makes history interesting for a change! Attendance was not really mandatory but I did not mind sitting in class and listening to him lecture because he just knows his stuff. Great class to take! Not to mention easy and interesting.
He is very helpful! You can tell he truly has a passion for the subject and cares about his students. I loved having him! His tests are pretty much identical to the questions on my history lab. Every now and then he does attendance quizzes so I'd suggest showing up to class. It isn't bad sitting in there though, he makes it interesting! (:
Easy A class! Test are super easy, just do the pre and post tests on myhistory lab and the tests are the exact questions. He does everything possible to make sure you get an A. TAKE HIM!!
Awesome prof! I would reccommend to anyone that they should take him. His tests come from my history lab. Although he requires attendance I went rarely. He drops the lowest test grade even if it's your final. Which means if you've done well on all your tests you can skip it. The only downside is that there is a group project. Easy A!
You probably can't find any history teacher in UTSA that's easier than him. Fun lecture, easy tests, friendly personality. I never expected history class being this relaxing and interesting.
Easy class! With this professor you don't have to attend class or get the book and you can make an A. He takes his test questions directly from the myhistorylab.com pre, post and chapter exams. He is a very nice professor and will help you with whatever you need and is most likely the easiest history class you can take.
The tests come directly from the quiz answers of myPerson history lab. Do not buy the book but buy the code for the myhistory lab. He is a great professor! An easy A!
took HIS Methods, he's super nice. aren't any tests/quizzes just class participation, teach a ch, and a10 page paper due at end of semester. have to keep up with the readings or you will get behind. Has about 5-6 books. He's really nice and always willing to help you. attendance not mandatory but participation big part of grade. I'd recommend him!!
Very simple class. He was fair and understanding. Interesting class lectures and you can tell he loves teaching. Also gives a lot of extra credit!
He is a great professor! His class is easy if you put in the time to memorize. He takes all his questions for the tests from the textbook online. He is nice and considerate. Fun and easy class.
I absolutely love his classes. He is an amazing instructor with a passion for what he teaches. I wish every professor was as understanding and fun. Easy class and he makes class interesting! I can't say enough just take his class!!! One of his classes was full and I went to him and he made room for me.
He definitely shows interest in the subject matter and the students learning. He's has high standards set for the class, and if you don't keep up with the readings then you'll fall behind, but if you skip classes reading won't help, because he has plenty of in class assignments, and his lectures are equally as important as the readings.
Easier than high school history. The tests are almost exactly like the ones on myhistorylab. Memorize them you should ace the tests. He does give pop quizzes during class so I suggest going to class.
Excellent Professor. His lectures are interesting and although he assigns reading every week it is not necessary to read it. He has two 5 page essays, on counts as the midterm and the other is the final. He also allows you to do a rewrite if you are not satisfied with your midterm. Take him!
He is a very good professor. His lectures are boring, but class is mandatory. Note card quizzes will ultimately determine your grade. Test are very easy. Study and remember post and chapter exams from my history lab and you'll get an A on the test.
Lectures are boring, but tests come straight from myhistorylab. He does "index card quizzes" in class and they affect your grade so I suggest going regularly. Easy A.
Class was very easy, he requires reading every week and while its not very little, he seems to prepare you for the reading required in the higher division history classes. He only requires 2 essays, one midterm and the other final and short class discussions with short presentations to help understand the reading, highly recommend!
Heavy reading but very simple lectures, no tests, 2 essays for midterm and final and allows you to rewrite your midterm for an increase of up to two letter grades, very helpful, allows you to pick your essay topic, final can expand on midterm. group presentation for end of class project but highly recommend.
Relatively straightforward and easy to follow lecture class, but where things got hairy for my semester was a final group project that consisted of being forced to reconcile 10 college strangers schedules and varying levels of work ethic.
I was apart of the lucky class when this guy decided he WILL NOT USE MYHISTORY LAB FOR THE TESTS ANYMORE. First, he told us "oh, just study myhistorylab, you will make an A". So we do that, and what happens? He accidentally gave us the wrong myhistorylab. So, now he only gives you basic reviews for the tests, which help, so make sure to do them.
His exams are mad easy, he gives reviews with pretty much the exam on it and lots of extra credit. Mandatory attendance by I clicker kinda sucks and group presentation at the end of semester.Overall i would recommend
Hes a very interesting lecturer, great historian; he really cares about his students. A lot of extra credit that boost your grade. Attendance is mandatory, he uses Iclicker to check attendance. the class is basically 5 exams and a final, and hell drop the lowest two, and a group presentation which sucks.
Prof. Carr does a lot to ensure the success of his students. Great lectutrer and a easy A. You will need to study and read some of the book. Offers tons of extra credit and drops lowest test grade, visit him in office hrs and he will help you tremendously!! Take his class!
Very nice and gives great lectures! I never liked history until I took his class. Tests are not hard and he gives extra credit opportunities. Great professor!! I am taking my second history class with him!
He is super nice and extremely helpful! Book is mandatory!! Read before class and you will pass your tests with an A!! He gives questions that will be on the test a few days before and is super interesting during class!
So far my favorite teacher, he is so nice. He does not need a text book or notes to teach his class. He will stand in front of everyone and let his mind blow everyone. I love his class. He makes me want to learn history.
Terrible teacher. His notes aren't clear on what is important and what isn't. When it comes to posting test reviews, he is awful. This guy gives you extremely long reviews barely two days before the test. In fact, I am actually still waiting for him to post our final exam review and it is in 3 days. TAKE ANOTHER TEACHER!!!
Good lecturer. He will drop the lowest test. He uses iClicker for attendance. Textbook is important and he do a review before each test. Take him.
The professor is very clear when he speaks and encourages questions and comments. Also very nice and keeps the class moving at a steady pace. If you miss class one day the syllabus tells you exactly what you missed and you can go over it in your book. It'll be like nothing happened. He also has a great mustache.
He is such a nice guy! His lectures are very interesting and he is definitely passionate about history. Index card quizzes that are done randomly. Many opportunities for extra credit. He really wants everyone to make an A and he is a very understanding guy. Most of the tests were pretty easy and he always found a way to help his students out.
Very straight forward class. There are many opportunities for extra credit and he always is very helpful with reviews and hints in class. Very easy and slightly amusing overall. Fun to have small talk with as well. Go Ireland!
Really great professor! His class is extremely interesting, and if you attend and take good notes, you will do very well. There are TONS of extra credit opportunities. He genuinely wants you to do well and is really helpful. Definitely would recommend him! Book w/ code is needed, or just the access code.
Great teacher! He cares about his students and the subject. He wants you to get a good grade but you have to do the online homework, it is easy but if you fail the test you can still get an A because of all the homework. I recommended him to all my friends
extra credit(short essays 2-3pg, register 2 vote);reviews are just terms; gives 2-3 Q's from test day B4 the test. if you google it youll find quizlet, which is your best friend in this class. I know he uses test banks, i studied quizlet. & 4 the final... he basically gave us the test we just have to find the answers, he gave us version A
Great professor! Wish he had TR classes instead of just MWF. Professor Shanahan is a genuinely nice man, he always asked me about my classes and what he could do to improve his own. Extra credit opportunities each test + EC questions as well. Gave us test form A for the final to study! His passion for history is also evident through lecture.
I recommend this professor! He is very good at his job & you can tell he loves the subject material. He is a very nice man & does a lot to make sure everybody gets a good grade. He gives you a ton of questions that will be on the test, & he basically gave us all of the questions that were on the final during the review. I hardly even went to class.
Nice guy and a really easy teacher. Attendance is sort of required as he uses the clicker on random days. Tests are really easy (and the questions can be found online…) and he drops the lowest test grade also. LOTS of extra credit. He'll also add 3 whole points to your final grade if you show him a slip that says you're registered to vote.
Pretty easy class, especially if you pay attention. The test reviews are elso very helpful and he keeps the lectures informative and interesting most of the time.
LOVED HIM. Tbh he is by far my favorite professor I've had at UTSA. He's super nice and gives tons of extra credit! His reviews are EXACTLY like the tests, you just have to study the answers basically. iclicker is a must, and you get extra points on your final grade just by showing him your voter registration. Pretty much easy A!
I took him for historical methods and high middle ages and renaissance. I really enjoy him. He requires you to read the books that he assigns and gives a book quiz everyday. No tests at all but you are required to write a midterm and a final along with group work. He lets you rewrite and is not a tough grader at all. Interesting guy, great classes.
I did not like this class at all! You have 100-200pgs to read per week. You have a reading quiz that is one question made up by students and can be ANYTHING. So be prepared to fail those. Lectures are random & geared towards those who already know what is being taught. Only upside was no tests, just papers. So all that reading is basically a waste.
Wonderful professor. Gave lots of extra credit. Once he read the test out loud to us as a review. Another time he allowed us to retake a test. He doesn't try to trick you and genuinely cares. Very clear tests. Attendance is mandatory, it's a grade. Read the book and you will be golden.
Shanahan is a good professor and gives tons of extra credit. He does expect you to be in class every session, which only helps you. His tests are long but very easy if you simply study.
The only assignments he gives are from the online textbook. Good class to take but you definitely need to read to pass the tests or study pretty good.
Easy test if you study and use the online textbook. The only assignments given are straight from the textbook and also a lot of questions on the test are pulled from there too. He's a good professor and offers extra credit here and there. The only way to fail is if you really just didn't try.
Good professor, he gives lots of extra credit and drops a test grade. Attendance is a grade and only homework is online and very easy, just sometimes lengthy. He is very passionate and somewhat interesting. Tests are easy as long as you study.
He's by far one of my better teachers. He gives a lot of extra credit. His lectures take up the whole class but they're easy to follow and straight to the point. Keep up with the reading if you want a good grade.
Although the lectures can be a drag, the class itself wasn't difficult. As long as you somewhat take notes and do the assignments, you could easily get a high B or low A on the tests (depending on your background with history). He gives extra credit. The assignments are long but easy to get through. Attendance is taken through top hat.
Professor Shanahan is sweet in person, but horrible with emails! He gives HUGE amounts of XC Opportunities, and gave us an optional essay as a final! He also gives XC if you turn in your Proof of Voters Registration! Only downfall is his study guides are the book itself. I passed w/o reading it but SmartBook quizzes helped a bunch!
Attendance and the textbook are mandatory. The tests are specific to the reading assignments so if you do them you'll make a good grade. He also loves to have hidden extra credit assignments on blackboard, be sure to look for them! Easy A+ if you work for it.
Professor Carr-Shanahan made history interesting for me and I usually HATE history. He was clear about what would be on his test and test questions came both from lectures and reading the textbook. He uses TopHat which can help or hurt your grade. He saved my grade at the end of the year when I made a huge mistake and he also offers extra credit.
Great guy with great knowledge of his field. Entertains with videos every other week.
This professor is great! The tests aren't too hard if you study, and there is not a final exam! His lectures are interesting but if history isn't your thing, maybe you won't enjoy his class. He does give extra credit, so that's always helpful. There are random reading quizzes, but the questions aren't hard and I've only had 2 this semester.
He likes to make jokes with us during class. When he lectures, he does cover the main material but also gives us extra detailed information which is just interesting to hear in general. Although, if you don't like extra background info, don't take him. I wouldn't say you won't pass if you didn't go to class . I was pleasantly surprised.
Professor Carr-Shanahan is great. His lectures don't really cover the most important material, and the way he lectures made it hard for me to take notes. However, his tests are easy if you go over the study guides, and he provides several opportunities for extra credit.
This guy is awesome. If you need to take history take it with this professor. He does take attendance, and his lectures can be a bit boring at times but he's one of the best professors I have. I highly recommend especially if history isn't your strongest subject. He will make it easy and obtainable to get an A.
I do not like history; however, he makes his class very interesting and fun. I have sent him a couple of emails and he has been very rude, but still I think he is a good teacher. Easy A
The class is easy, and he is a great professor. Additionally, he is a cool guy overall. However, if you speak to him individually, whether it be in his office or in email, he is an ass.
(For sophomore level European Civilization) Gave excellent lectures that did not repeat the textbook readings but added to them. Solid choices for supplemental films/documentaries. Great facilitator of class discussion. Tests are super easy if you read the (super-easy-to-read) textbook. Great prof that clearly wanted students to learn.
the class isn't too hard, pay attention to lectures and read the book/follow the review and you'll pass. he's really smart, he speaks straight from memory and doesn't have a powerpoint. fun to listen to and is passionate about history. class where you have no choice but to learn which i like.
He sets you up for every opportunity to pass this class with an A, as long as you play by the rules. Participate by showing up for attendance, do the learnsmart work, bring your voter registration, and study for tests and you'll get a super easy A. He is very entertaining too and thought he did an excellent job making a boring subject not boring.
This guy is amazing! Made history seem so interesting. Class is very easy if you show up and pay attention, he gives out a lot of the questions before the test! So many easy extra credit opportunities! He really cares about your grades just make sure and go talk to him!! Book was not necessary, so if you can avoid it definitely do so!
Professor Carr-Shanahan was very helpful throughout the entire research process. He makes you work for the grade, and expects a lot from his students. Put effort in the research and you'll get a good grade. You do have to read the assigned readings to discuss them in class, and he gives terms quizzes which are easy if you study the terms. Take him!
Carr-Shanahan is a really great guy and professor. He covers the material really well and is able to tie it all together. It's obvious he really cares about education.
Tests, book readings and attendance are the only grades. If you read and learn the content then it is very easy to make an A. A very kind and generous professor.
Professor Shanahan is a sweet and hilarious guy. His powerpoints don't have a lot of text (basically just pictures), so he expands on them verbally. Lots of great stories and insights from his lectures. I took him twice - 1st semester gave no study guides and just told us to study the text. 2nd semester gave us study guides for each test. Mixed bag
Professor Shanahan is the best history teacher I have ever had. His class is a very easy A. He takes attendance using IClicker & he excuses your first two absences. He gives multiple extra credit and adds three points EC on your grade if you have a voters registration. He gives you test answers the lecture before with review. Great guy!
LOVE THIS MAN. Highly recommend, you will not regret it. EASY class because he reviews before tests and gives extra credit. He cares about class and curved tests. He makes class interesting and I never dreaded going. NO FINAL!! On the last day he gave away Starbucks gift cards. such a caring man and funny. TAKE HIM. 10/10 professor 'car'
He's a jolly dude who has a experienced fascinating things. The culmination of his experience in the Vietnam War, his experience working as a legislator, and his boundlessly broad worldview make him a really fun & interesting character. He's equally articulate as he is personable. I actively looked forward to his lectures. He is strict with rules.
Lectures were a bit dull, and he will call you out if you're not paying attention. You don't really have to take notes. Just do the review he gives out before the test, and you should make an A on the exam. If you bring a copy of your voter registration ID, he will add 3 extra credit points to your overall average! Easy A+.
Easiest class by far!!!! Just show up because attendance counts, you don't even have to pay attention! Just study the review and you'll get a 100! Lots of extra credit too!!
Professor Shanahan is amazing! I absolutely loved his class. He truly cares about his students and teaching. He emails back very fast and really cares about everyone in the class. Show up and you are pretty much guaranteed an A. He gives lots of extra credit. Drops one test. If you don't pass, it's because you didn't try.
He's a very charismatic person and makes history enjoyable.
I respect this professor so much. He cares about his students and the subject so much, it really warms my heart. He is a very good professor and he is just overall a great person. If he is teaching other classes I am definitely going to take them!
The professor is great at his job and, while somewhat demanding, he will go well out of his way to help his students. You will learn a lot in his class.
Good lectures and straightforward textbook. One group project, but he doesn't let group projects hurt your grade, only help so you don't have to worry if the other members of your group don't pull their weight.
Hes extremely passionate about history and it makes the subject much easier to get into. Ive never liked history but Ive very much enjoyed his class. A small portion of the grade is on the online textbook. The tests are super duper easy! Hes even let us use an index card on them. Just show up and pay attention and the class is an easy A.
Professor Carr-Shanahan is great at teaching the content of this course. You can tell he is very passionate about history. The tests are not hard if you study and attend class. It's an easy A if you put in some effort.
Great course overall! It is an easy A if you study the material and the study guides he provides you. The lectures are not even lectures. professor Shanahan does an amazing job at painting a picture of the material you are learning. There is homework over every chapter done online but it is easy too.
Great professor! You must purchase Mcgraw hill for weekly assignment but only for a completion grade. Offers extra credit all semester and if you give him a copy of your voter's registration it counts as 3 points towards your final grade! Easy A would highly recommend
By far my favorite teacher this semester, if not one of the best in my time at UTSA. Carr-Shanahan is clearly well versed and passionate about history, and I found myself fascinated by every lecture he gave. If you're a history major/love history, I highly recommend taking this professor.
Professor Car-Shanahan is a great! Attendance is mandatory, but lectures are interesting. Textbook is required, but I advise just purchasing book online so you can read online and do chapter quizzes. There's no final in his class and he does offer extra credit: Proof of eligibility to vote, writing essays, and attendance.
Very passionate prof, but I didn't like his teaching style. No powerpoints and the one he showed in the class were all pictures only. I had to take notes super fast till the point idk what actually happened. It was hard to keep up. 4 tests, hw/book on Mcgrawhill. Lots of extra credit but you have to write papers for all of it + voter registration
Although his lectures can be boring, his class is extremely easy. Very passionate professor and lots of opportunities for extra credit. Funny at times, but knows when to get serious. Attendance is mandatory, but he offers assignments on Fridays that are optional for a one free attendance point (so you can miss one class with no penalty).
You have to do iClicker right when class starts or else you'll be marked absent. His lectures can sometimes be boring but he sometimes tells really interesting facts and stories. You have to do some chapter modules for completion credit but they're really easy. He offers a bunch of extra credit throughout the semester to help your grade out.
If you're taking HIS 1043 (pre-columbus to civil war) at UTSA definitely take professor Carr-Shanahan!! He gives you a ton of extra credit and his tests are just like the reviews he posts. The only downside (which is not that bad) is that you have homework due every week (45-70 questions) and attendance is part of your grade. Great teacher overall!
One of the Best professors Ive had , he is super sweet and will make history fun for you I would definitely recommend taking him if you want to have an easy class
I would defiantly recommend Carr-Shanahan to anyone looking to sign up for History! He is an intriguing person and his lectures are fun to listen to and dont make you want to fall asleep.
His lectures are mandatory but he does a great job at making them fun to attend. Most of the grades you will get are through ch. tests and one group project although there are ch. assignments for each chapter, they are online and allow you to take it until you get a 100. Be prepared to give your opinion in class because he values different ideas.
He is an amazing professor. He knows what he is talking about and will love any new information that you can give him. He does call on people randomly so be ready for that. Reading will help with exams so make sure to keep up with that.
The course has so far been quite easy but the lectures are fairly poor. He seems to have next to no enthusiasm for his profession and has been reading his lectures off a script for this online class, but has a pretty severe speech or reading impediment that negatively affects the legibility of his content. I do however appreciate his assignments.
attendance isn't mandatory, but if you don't go, you're screwed. His lectures are interesting but he does move through the slides fast so I usually had to wait for him to post the PowerPoint later. His tests are pretty straightforward but you do have to study to pass. if you do what is asked then you'll be fine.
He is very charismatic and he cares about the student and his subject. The only bad thing can be considered the lengthy material and his lectures can be unorganized sometimes. He is extremely understanding, gives extra credit, the actual assignment are easy, class work is minimal but interesting, homework is clear and do-able.
This proffesor is amazing. He is so caring and actually treats his students like human beings. He will really go out of his way to help his students. I took World Civilization it was lecture heavy but I would literally study the night before and get an A. The tests are easy. I would definitely take him again.
Shanahan was one of those teachers who is an absolute amazing teacher and an okay teacher. He totally makes up for it though, everything in the class is pretty easy and he's so wholesome. Would definitely take him again.
Homework assignments are very easy (through online textbook - have to buy), there's 1-2 per week. Attendance is graded every few classes. Extra credit for some tests, and a few group assignments in class. Tests are 50 mc or t/f questions and you get a flashcard as a cheat sheet. Very boring lectures but just do the study guide and you'll get an A!
Lectures aren't the most engaging or interesting, but Professor Carr does try his best to help students prepare for exam day. Grades are mostly based on exams, so definitely study beforehand. Textbook is mandatory so don't skip out on that. All in all, OK class and OK professor.
Homework is based on a textbook while exams are based on lectures. Lectures are great, and he tries his best to be funny and upbeat. Exam questions are almost entirely recall of vocabulary and events rather than application of concepts. Some in-class group projects that are possible to miss if you skip, so id say that all lectures are mandatory.
Lectures are pretty boring but are important for the exams. He tried taking attendance using tophat but gave up 2 weeks into the semester. In person exams that are based on the lectures, purely vocabulary and event significance.
Over all a really easy course, as long as you do the McGraw textbook assignments and exams there's not that much work at all. He drops your lowest exam grade at the end of the semester and gives extra credit if you bring in a copy of your voter ID!
If you are thinking about taking him, do it, I promise. He's an amazing professor very sweet and understanding to his students. Attend lectures and do online homework and exams are super easy. He provides study guides as well and you guys go through it a class before the exam. He even lets you use a notecard on exams. Would love to take him again!
This professor requires attendance, but often forgot to take it. McGraw Hill is heavily used, as well as a few in-class participation assignments. The tests were not very difficult.
Great funny professor. Attendance is random days and on a flashcard. The homework is Mcgraw Hill connect which is also the textbook, it's easy and only like 1 every week or so. The exams are in person but are mostly common sense and if you listen during the study guide you can write it all down on a flashcard and use it for the exams.
Tests were very easy and he gives you opportunities to get the highest grade you can. Lectures were pretty boring but had some group assignments that were fun. Very nice guy and a good class for a prerequisite. If you study for like an hour or two a tests it's an easy A.
His lectures are very speedy and hard to follow along but it is forgivable because if you just read the textbook you will ace the exams. The exams are easy. The homework is easy. PLENTY of opportunities for extra credit. He is funny in class but serious about history, the man knows what he's talking about and is very knowledgable.
Lectures are long and tedious but occasionally have fun moments when his passion is allowed to slip through the required points. His way of speech can feel condescending at times, especially when it comes to grades, but I believe he means well. Overall decent professor and good guy, I just don't thrive in his teaching methods.
Really funny and passionate about what he's teaching. Will offer help with tests minutes before they start. Really helpful overall.
The homework is super easy, and he will ALWAYS give you an extra credit opportunity. He communicates with the class well but his lectures can be kind of confusing if you aren't paying 100% attention. Overall great man!
I loved this guy! He was so hilarious, made tons of connections with his students, and was very knowledgeable in the subject. We took 4 tests all semester, the fourth being a group presentation. A child could take this class and pass it. I would recommend taking him, especially if you're a freshman.
He was a very nice person but got lost in his own thoughts.
Professor Carr-Shanahan's HIS1043 class is manageable if you stay on top of the readings and lectures. Exams are straightforward, and there are plenty of opportunities for extra credit. Unstuck study can be a helpful study tool alongside the textbook.
Professor Shanahan is very sweet and caring. The exams are easy if you really study. USE THE TEXTBOOK. drops lowest test grade, and can do a project instead of the fourth exam. McGraw Hill homework weekly.
Class before tests were study guides, and he dropped the answer choices from 5 to 3 for each question when people failed the first test.
Yes, you have to buy a McGraw Hill textbook, but if you keep up with it per week and study for the exams, you'll be good. I made the biggest academic comeback in this class, he wants you to be active in your learning vs. passive. As long as you study for exams, you'll pass, the final is optional to take, but it might help you in the future.
I highly recommend him. He is very knowledgeable and he's a kind person. Provides good information and always ensures we are prepared for the test.
Professor Shanahan's class is fairly easy. If you work ahead on your McGraw hill assignments it makes life just a bit easier. His lectures can be fairly boring, but he will every so often take attendance when people aren't showing up to class. Tests are very conceptual and are weighted super heavy (65%) so prepare for those. He is nice though.
Carr-Shanahan is honestly one of the best profs I've had. He wants you to pass and makes it super clear what you need to do to succeed. Like, you'd seriously have to not show up or just not care at all to fail his class. Don't use ChatGPT for the homework. If you slack on those, you're kinda screwing yourself. Just do the work and you'll be fine.
Great Professor and great person. He's great at getting the class engaged and always does his best to make sure we're prepared for exams. He's also great at giving out advice to individual students who are struggling—Just ask and he's more than helpful!
He is a great professor, his exams are very easy. Even just paying a slight amount of attention goes a long way. The McGraw Hill assignments are annoying but frankly easy 100s.
