his class is so much fun. if you take an oral class, this is the one. the group projects are a blast. he makes the as entertaining as possible with his corny jokes. just don't get on his bad side or you'll be remembered for the worst.

He's a fantastic teacher, sometimes talks a wee bit fast, but he's great, he is a hard teacher, but you really do learn a lot about pulic speaking, and the class does aleviate public speaking fears.

He tells it like it is, if you should give your speech next semester then yea, you're clearly failing :) He's been awesome so far, gives lots of good advice, he's not arrogant. He grades really hard, it's not easy to get an A in his class. This is a really stressful class for ESL students. He is an arrogant person, and I am not really like the way he talks. He's really mean!!!

dude, this guy is the funniest and coolest teacher in ALL of EVC. his grading is pretty straightforward. follow his guidelines for the speeches, and you'll be fine. read for his quizzes and you'll be fine, cause his questions are derived straight from the book. make sure you show up to class everyday and on time too, since he grades attendance.

I thought at first he was a very hard professor and in fact he was. But there is no hard professor if you do your work...and I believe I did my part so I end up gettin an A. Professor Carrion is very funny, nice and approachable. He gives out quizzes like every other week and you have speeches up the yin yang. His main thing is memorizing your speech, maintaining eye contact, and speaking loud. He grades TOUGH, and if you are an average speaker you might get a C. He expects a lot from the students, but is very helpful

Taken summer semester. He is a very nice guy, very funny, & will be a new dad in August. He can be a little hard on grading the speeches. There were about 6 speeches in all as well as easy quizzes each week. The final was a bit difficult & requires lots of studying. Memorize your speech, practice a lot, eye contact, few notes, speak up!

If you're afraid of public speaking, you should take over Summer session. It goes by real quick. This is a hard class for me, but I passed the 2nd time.

fun class/teacher. I came to his class all tense, but he turns out to be ok if you show up to class on time and participate. lots of outside classwork with your group members, that's the hard part. only 2 presentations, 1 easy 1 hard. 2 midterms that are reasonably easy if you take good notes and pay good attention, reading the book might help.

I would definitely recommend Prof. Carrion to everyone! I took him during intersession so we went through every speech quickly. He's easy to understand & extremely funny. The class is boring, but he makes it fun! I looked forward to every lecture! You should take him! You won't regret it.

If you have a sense of humor or if you like to have a good time, this is the class for you. The class is extremely fun and the professor, very funny...you just have to see for yourself. The class itself is not that bad, not an easy class either, as long as you go to class and do your work, you'll be fine.

Fairly good teacher. He's funny at times, but is very understanding. I would recommend him for communication studies 45. You may have to work with others alot, but it's worth it. Work on your extemporaneous delivery (keeping eye contact with audience and refraining from fillers) I'm glad I had him.

Prof. Carrion is an excellent teacher. His class is really fun and easy. He can seem harsh sometimes, but that is the way he is. A bunch of quizzes, 2 group projects, and 1 final. Study, take notes, have fun in your group, learn something, and the class will be a breeze. As much as I liked that class, too bad all my classes aren't like that.... =)

Professor Carrion is a GREAT teacher. He cracks jokes all the time which makes his class a lot of fun. Since his class is such a great atmosphere, it makes giving your speech less scary! I highly recommend taking him for speech, you wont regret it! :-)

Funny and Easy. Quizzes are all based on lectures. You have the answers as long as you study one day before you'll be fine. Punctuality and attendance is a must. You earn about 4-10pts at every class meeting. Must practice speeches to get A. Take the Saturday class he doesn't have enough time to do all assignments that he has planned for reg days.

Unconventional/different in a good way (incorporates class activities for his students to understand the concepts he teaches); lectures, promptness, & attendance are key (quizzes taken regularly but book use is extremely minimal but still necessary). Very funny.

If you take Professor Carrion for COMS 45, majority of the notes from that class are exactly the same as COMS 20. He's very straightforward with what he wants students to know for their quizzes, exams, and speeches. Textbook use is minimal but mandatory. Anyone who knows how to take notes and is willing to improve their public speaking will pass.

Loved this class + teacher! He is very funny, lots of laughs everyday. As for work, we had mini quizzes once a week (4-7 questions), but gave what was on quiz in the class before. Loved that you could pick speech topics, made it a lot easier. Just follow guidelines and show up and you'll do fine! Would suggest to anyone.

Excellent teacher. Very intelligent, kind, and fair. I learned alot in his class. He was voted as best teacher at Evergreen Valley College a couple of times. I'm very glad I had him as a teacher for Communitcation Studies 10.

He is freakishly hilarious. I am glad that I got to take his class. Never laughed as much in a class as I did in clean cut Carrion's class. He is very specific about assignments and due dates. Just take notes (study them) and follow all instructions to the dot and you'll do fine.

I took this guy for oral communication. He is very funny and makes the class interesting. I took him for the intersession and we had 3 main speeches. He is a wonderful professor. you must be in class on time! if you are late on a speech day try to get there before the second speaker starts his/her speech. PRACTICE your speech to the point you have it memorized. Fillers and dependency on notes will deduct points. EXTEMPORANEOUS!

He is hard when it come to speeches but dont freak out its okay.what makes it hard is that he expects u to know your speech your are allow to have notecard but no more then five and your speech has to last 3 min no less or (F) to no more (F) 4 min . Carrion was the best com teacher ever! His grading is a little tough because participation is a big player with him. If you miss a speech date, you automatically fail that speech and cannot whatsoever make it up, no excuses even if you were in labor it doesnt matter. He makes that very clear. But he is the nicest Coms teacher and helps you.

Took this class for Winter intercession, Amazing instructor -Clear from the get-go about his tough grading for speeches -Practice your speech a ton and you'll be good -Love the comedy he throws in, just don't take him too seriously. The good thing about taking Carrion's class is that it's fun. He is full of energy and his lectures are hilarious, so you will never fall asleep in his class. The downside to his class is that he is a tough grader. He sets clear expectations and expects them to be met, no makeups or excuses. If you miss a speech you automatically get 0.

I took this class once a week for 3 hours. Let me just say, he is a TOTAL trip in the morning. VERY energetic. Constantly drinks coffee. All I got out of it was basically the word "EXTEMPORANEOUS". Oh, and don't be late. Especially on your presentation day.

Don't believe what everyone else says about this teacher. He is one of the best teachers i have taken, and would definitely take him again! He is tough on grading but if you practice your speech enough and even spend some time with him and asking for credible feedback, he will help you to achieve a good/passing grade. Carion is THE BEST/HILARIOUS teacher ever. He will let you know what exactly will be on the quiz, and what is to be expected from you for the speeches, he gives you SO much time to practice your speeches and encourages you to practice in front of him for help. I have stage fright but ended up passing with an A. If you fail, it's cz you didn't try.

This professor is probably the highlight of being in college. He likes to exaggerate the difficulty of his class,but it's pretty simply to pass. Just make sure you take notes and study for them prior to a SUPER EASY quiz. For speeches, you might not want to take him if you're quite or shy in anyway. I am fairly introverted so of course, a class like this would be difficult for me. Objectively, however, the level is reasonably lower than I let on. Carrion manages to put me and other students through the motions smoothly with judiciously fair grading and critique, intimate knowledge of his subject, and super sense of humor. A real gem at EVC.

Took this class over the intercession to get it over with and I'm glad I went with Carrion. He's so funny and keeps you entertained. He's a tough grader, but only because he literally tells you what to do so you deserve to get points knocked off for not paying attention. Never gives out homework and gives a lot of quizzes but gives you the answers!

He laughs at his own jokes, and knows how to make you feel like an idiot. Especially if you are a frequent tardy person. Will not stress about class absents, but will make you feel dumb if he notices. His side remarks are not for everyone, so get used to it if you want an A. Tells you everything that will make you fail his class, other professors will tell you how to pass. In all, he's a nice guy who cracks a lot of jokes. His grading is fair and if you're not comfortable with speeches you should see his office hours. He'll help you regardless of where you're at in your speech. Use his office hours, he doesn't bite.

He gives most to all of the answers for quizzes & there isn't a midterm just a final. The part where he is tough is speeches. He really cares about delivery so make sure you spend a couple hours to memorize and perfect your delivery and you'll be fine. He's an amazing lecturer & is SUPER funny. Professor Carrion is an amazing professor. He incorporates humor into his lectures and will often stress the most important things you need to know for a certain speech or quiz. He is almost always available outside of class if you need to practice and he might be a tough grader, but he really wants to push you to be your best.

I'm an ESL student and I challenged myself when I took this communication class during summer. I feel lucky that I attended Carrion's class. Before speech, I practiced in front of him & know exactly what I must fix to get full credit and the next day I did so well. Final was a bit tough but you'll be fine if you studied his lecture carefully.

Carrion will make his class seem so scary & hard on the first day but trust, its not that bad Although he has a strict grading criteria on all speeches, he gives you the option to practice in front of him which is very helpful. As long as you do not use many filler or be short on time, you shouldnt worry too much. Always remember, EXTEMPORANEOUS

SO glad I took him. Honestly he had me pretty scared on the first day. But as the class went on, he really is so funny and not intimidating at all. I learned a lot from the speeches. Be sure to really practice your speech, he gives an option to practice in front of him before and will tell you exactly what you need to do. Highly recommend.

John Carrion is a funny professor. Hes a little rough on the edges. Hes grading is pretty rough and usually absolute. For example, he doesnt not let you do make up on speeches. Typically, if you miss one, your done. He doesnt care if your whole family had passed away. There is ABSOLUTELY no make up. As far as that, hes pretty cool.

He is honestly not as bad as everyone makes him out to be. He tells the class exactly what he wants. He even gives the option for students to practice their speeches in front of him. For quizes, he gave us the exact questions and answers the day before as review. Take advantage of every opportunity he gives, and you should be fine in his class.

Professor Carrion is one of the greatest instructors I have ever had; his lectures are interesting, and get to the points. Then, he encourages you to practice on every presentations beforehand and gives you feedback. In additions, he is also willing to stay after class to listen to your practices. The skills I learned from his class help me alot.

Super funny. Keeps class interesting. Hes tough when it comes to grading speeches but he makes it clear what he wants your delivery to be like. You can practice your speech in front of him and hell tell you EXACTLY what to fix. The best way to describe it is: hes giving you the test with all the answers beforehand; you just have to go to him.

Carrion is the best professor Ive had at EVC so far. He is very clear with how he wants the speeches done and how he grades. Write down all notes from day 1, everything from the very 1st day of class WILL be on the final. He is a really chill and funny professor, just show up everyday and dont ever be late, most of the time class will end early!

Carrion is incredibly funny and accessible if anybody were to need to ask him questions or create an appointment to practice their speech in front of him. That being said, quizzes are very easy and the midterm is alright if you study. The speeches are graded extremely hard though. Carrion is not an easy A, but if anything, shines out otherwise.

There are simple small assignments that can help your grade slightly, but failing a single speech (out of the three major speeches) can cost you the entire class. Take advantage of note cards and visual aids and don't underestimate this class. Regardless, the class itself is fun and he is very entertaining.

Got a F for not reaching the time limit on the first speech, but got B's on the rest. Quizzes and the final is pretty easy if you actually study.

super hilarious, lectures and quizzes are super easy but the one thing he's super strict about are his speeches. He knows what he wants during a speech and if you don't practice or aren't prepared he will know and you will fail. Just practice your speeches and sound confident while you deliver them and you will pass.

The class is pretty straight forward, and he clearly states his expectations for his class. Not a difficult class, as long as you don't slack off and pay attention to his instructions. ESL may have some difficulties in this class, but I have seen them do an incredible job on their speeches. You can tell if some did not practice, so good luck.

I really enjoyed his class because he was funny. He also gives clear instructions on what to do/ or donts to get a good/bad grade. Do not look at the board/pictures and do not look down at the notes that will not give you a good speech grade. Make sure you practice, he also allows for you to practice in front of him and will give you feedback.

Make sure to show up to class! When its not your turn to present, you get points for writing feedback for peers. I got all As on my speeches but missed too much class and my final grade was a B. Hes very picky about eye contact. Sometimes I would look down without realizing and get points docked off. Overall a great Professor though!!

One of my biggest fears is talking in front of the class. I took Carrion's small group comm. You will work as a group but will give speeches individually. He doesn't appreciate tardiness and will call you out for it. Speeches are easy. Memorize them and maintain eye contact. YOU. WILL. PASS. Very helpful professor. Will gladly give you feedback.

Class is an easy A if you do well on speeches. Prepare and practice on speeches and you will get an A. Grades tough on if you say "uhm" or "like" a lot in your speech and make sure you make the speech time criteria or he will fail your speech. Be on time. Grading criteria is clear. Other than that, he is funny. All true or false answers are true!

I can honestly say I thought I wasnt going to pass this class because Im very shy, but as long as you speak and present your speeches the way he wants, youll pass ! Not to mention, hes funny and is very clear with instructions! All you have to do is study and show up and youll pass ��. I would totally take him again.

Professor Carrion is absolutely fantastic! His quizzes are very straight to the point on the content that he lectures on. Make sure to take notes and be attentive. It is clear that he wants you to succeed in this class, even designating days for you to practice on the speech and with him as well. His feedback for your speeches helps a ton as well.

During these times of living through a pandemic, its important to find a class where youll be able to learn and not stress more than we already are. I would say you would be able to do just that in this class. Carrion himself is humorous but can at times sound a little rough. As long as you have your speeches prepared on time youll pass.

Mr Carrion is great and his lectures are great. Its not a tough class, just have to do what youre supposed to do and youll have a good grade. Every time we had to do a speech hed go over it, explain and even show some samples. The quizzes are pretty straightforward and easy. His cares and is very helpful.

Carrions class is very straightforward and easy to pass. Follow the grading criteria for the speeches, take notes, do the homework, and take the (super super easy) quizzes. Really cool and nice professor.

He provides a sample group agenda, individual outline, and videos of speeches for you to follow. Use those resources and practice extemporaneous delivery of your speeches and you will do well. Quizzes are very easy with multiple attempts and no time limit. He does drop new assignments in the middle of the week so watch out for those announcements.

Awesome professor! I had a lot of fun in this class, Carrion made everything fun, very easy course as long as you study for quizzes and don't mind speaking in front of the whole class. Very energetic and always joking around, but don't disrespect him because he will disrespect you back. Memorize how to spell EXTEMPORANEOUS

He is tough grader, you he helps you throughout the assignment and wants you to do great on them

Great teacher, BUT DONT TAKE SMALL GROUP COMMUNICATIONS!!! He will put you in random groups and everyone will get the same grade no matter who does good and who does bad. I got an A on my individual speech, however my group was AWFUL and many of them failed. Because of this I got a C on the speech rather than an A. Otherwise, he is a great teacher.

Pretty straight forward class with many little quizzes. Most of your grades are based on your speeches. Only issue is that he was a really tough grader. Takes off points for everything.

Professor Carrion is very charismatic. You grade relies on how good you perform on your speeches. Attendance is a very huge matter to him. I got 2 A+'s on my speeches and 1 B-(due to my lack of effort). He often gives pop quizzes based on the lectures.... professor practically gives you the answers, so easy. I ended off with an A in his class!

This professor is awesome. Two presentations. 1 midterm and a final exam. He takes the time to meet with you and provide feedback on your presentation before your speak.

I took this professor a second time I did not pass. Because there is 1 midterm exam and a final exam. I like the way he gives his lectures. There are two presentions. I like how he meets with you and he lets you practice your speech in front of him.

Professor Carrion was an amazing professor. At first I wasn't to confident I was going to pass because I was nervous about recording myself giving speeches but I was proven wrong. He is a reasonable grader and response to questions quickly. If you have a chance to take his class, DO IT!!!

Really good professor, Grades pretty tough on video tho, my grade dropped from a B to D after missing the final video assignment but that's my own fault for missing the deadline, Overall he is clear on what he wants and I plan on taking him again.

Very clear on how to pass! Great professor overall and willing to work with you if need be. My grade dropped due to my own doing of not turning in one assignment. I would totally take his class again. I enjoyed him as a professor.

Took him summer 23. Honestly was easy class. Just follow his instructions and you will be good. I received an A in his class and I am quite shy nervous when speaking out loud. Would recommend during summer did only 3 speeches.

The class was easy, but the teacher is very demanding about late assignments and does not accept any. My grade was terrible because of that, I know it wasn't his fault but I was doing all my work and only because I forgot to send it. He didn't even give me a chance to get at least 5 points. I wouldn't take this class with him again.

Professor Carrion's class was very straightforward. From the beginning, he explained what he would be expecting of us. He does not accept any late work whatsoever, so if you plan on taking his class DO NOT slack off. He assigned homework maybe 3 times a week and speeches were usually due every 1-2 weeks. He gives really good feedback and cares.

Dr. Carrion's class is straight forward and the workload is minimal. There's no excuse to fail the class at the end of the day. Speech grading criteria is clear and there's only 1-2 assignments every week, so it's easy to get in the loop.

Took his summer course, which essentially is graded by 3 speeches. There are a few other assignments and some quizzes but the speeches are weighted way more. If you can speak through a camera for 4 mins you'll be fine. He has a very clear grading criteria for his speeches. Not very hard or a lot of work, I'm just bad at public speaking.

Professor Carrion runs a tight ship, but his no-nonsense approach works well if you stay on top of things. The workload is manageable, and he gives great feedback. I found Unstuck study and the free textbook really helpful for prepping speeches and staying organized.

Great professor who is a nice person. Make sure to pay attention in class to do well on quizzes, speeches are done in random groups but doesn't impact grade. As long as you have good public speaking skills you will easily get an A. Don't lose points as there aren't many to lose. Quizzes cannot be redone so make sure to attend class.

Professor Carrion is one of the best professors at EVC. His Group Communications class grade relies heavily on your two speeches, and the group grade doesn't even impact your final grade. It is not that hard to get an A in his class, and you learn a lot about public speaking as well as working within a group. He is a very nice and fun guy.

Mr. Carrion is a very strict grader when it comes to the 3 speeches you have to do throughout the semester, however he makes it clear what criteria you need to fulfill in order to get an A. As long as you practice, you should be happy with your grade. He also has a few quizzes that are easy if you do more than 5 minutes of studying. EXTEMPORANEOUS!

Although i took this course online the professor still made great effort for us to get to know his personality. I liked that he was clear on grading criteria, even though he was a bit harsh.

Carrion is VERY particular about his grading, however he is very clear at how he wants you to give a speech. He basically tells you EXACTLY how to phrase things and if you follow that easy A. Speeches are what make or break your grade. He cracks a lot of jokes but isn't interested in having conversation with you. Save your time, take it over summer

I took the asynch class. It's not a heavy workload at all. For the 3 speeches, as long as you follow the criteria you'll be fine. Start working on them a few days in advance to not get overwhelmed. Just make sure to finish everything by the deadlines since he does not accept late work.

pretty chill guy, as long as you're a proficient speaker before getting into his class and aren't afraid to mess up and re-record your speeches over and over again, you'll do great.
