New professor, course schedule doesnt match when he tells us things are due. Gets upset when you dont turn things in on time. Expects a lot out of his students, nice guy. Wants you to do well but if you're shy and lazy this isnt the class for you. No exams, only papers online work and speeches.
He is the G.o.a.t, i loved his class everyone in my class loved this class and you will if you take it.
Professor Cassese really cares about his students. 3 hr night class and we never stayed longer than an hour. No exams, only online work (answers on quizlet) a few short papers and 3 speeches. He wants you to learn something from this class. I hate public speaking but this was g one of my favorite classes. He's hilarious. Takes forever to grade tho
Mr.C was so great! He does not assign work for the sake of it, and truly cares about adding value to us as professionals. He knows a LOT of people and is willing to help you network and meet professionals in your industry. That being said, there are not a lot of assignments, only a handful mostly oral presentations so make sure to do a good job.
I had a lot of anxiety but he is a great teacher and offers you a more relaxed environment to shed the fears of public speaking and see what you can truly do. Extremely nice. Speeches are better for learning the material than tests any day and he utilizes that. If you do above minimum (if even slightly) then you will succeed in this course.
He is probably the best professor I've ever had. He clearly describes what is expected and won't waste your time. He creates an environment where you don't feel judged and it is much easier to speak in front of the class.
Professor Cassese is honestly the best professor to take for COMM 2105. His class is so easy all you have to do is like 4 group presentations. It is impossible not to get an A in his class. Attendance for the groups presentations are mandatory.
A terifiic professor who cares deeply about his students. Brings a real world perspective and did more to prepare me than any other class or any other professor. Everything in class is done for a reason and he ties it all together. I enjoyed every minute of class. I really learned
John is a great teacher. He wants everyone to do well and is more concerned with preparing you for the real world than tests and quizzes (which he doesn't have). You do a couple of oral presentations and some writing assignments and that's the class. As long as you put in a little effort you will get an easy A. Gives lots of extra credit too.
This was a group comm class. He is an amazing prof. He is the type to not like grades, but instead want to teach you professionalism. He also lets you leave early a lot and doesn't make you take notes, and all your grade is is on presentations. It great. He helps you out on your real life stuff too. A truly great prof!
Dont be fooled by the seemly easy comments. This professor makes you work and learn. He is no nonsense and demands you act think and be professional. He treats the class like a job so you better show up and be ready to participate. And dont even think about being late or missing assignments. Bottom line, you will learn in his class
I will get to the point, I learned more from Prof Cassese than I would have thought. He knows what is going on in the biz world and shares his knowledge. He is funny, smart and wants you to succeed. It is the best class I have taken at Unc. If you can take him for a class, do it.
I have really learned in this class. We had great assignments that helped me better understand how to position myself in the business. I dont think a professor has motivated me the way Professor Cassese has. He is the G.O.A.T.
Professor Cassese is great! This class is the most real class I have ever taken. Yes, he focuses on presentations but by the end, you won't be as nervous. You learn a lot and he grades you on effort. He has a lot of experience in Business and is willing to answer any questions you have. (P.S. I hated public speaking but the class was worth it)
Business COMM was the only class I looked forward to this semester. Prof. Cassese was great. He knows so much real world information. And, I became a better speaker. And I hate speaking in public. This was the best class I have taken at Uncc.
Professor Cassese is by far the best Professor I have had here at UNCC. He has prepared every student so well for the professional world, and he makes it FUN. Do everything you can to take him!!!!
This guy is a legend. He really helped me so much outside my class and really cares for his students. He makes an effort to give his students wisdom that will actually apply to the real world.
The best. Honestly, the best professor i have had at Uncc. I learned so much and he made it interesting and fun. I looked forward to his class every week. Do not miss the opportunity to have him as your professor. You will learn so much from him.
Prof. Cassese is undoubtedly one of the best professors that I've had in my four years at UNCC. He is extremely knowledgeable and sincerely cares for his students. This class may be nerve-wracking because it focuses heavily on presentations, but you will learn a ton that you can use in the real world. If you have to take BCOMM, pick John Cassese.
I learned more from this professor than any other in my 4 years at UNCC. Cant say enough good things about him and his style of teaching Smart, funny and generous with his knowledge. He is the professor by which all others should be judged.
Professor Cassese was the BEST college professor I have ever had. He made sure that we took away more from the class then just taking test and quizzes. He prepared us for the real world and truly cares about your success. Definitely take his class is you get the chance too. Also attendance is not mandatory but it only hurts you to not go.
John Cassese is the best professor I have had at UNCC. He is a great speaker and really helps you to become a business professional. There are not tests or exams. Assignments are mostly presentations. His class is fairly easy and he really does try to help you if you have trouble with public speaking.
John is, by far, the best communications instructor I've ever had! His class is designed to assist you in real-world scenarios and how to communicate both professionally and effectively. He will not waste your time with busy work! Thank you, John, for all of your efforts into making this the best communications class on UNCC's campus!
I wish I had NOT taken this class during the summer. Why? Because I did not want it to end. I wish the semester was longer. Thats how great this class was and that is how outstanding Prof. Cassese is. He is inspiration, smart and is committed to your success. I learned so much. This is the professor you want to have for BComm.
Go to class, participate, practice your presentation before class and you will pass. Super cool professor but also hard. Take his class seriously and you will be fine.
The professor fully prepared students for the business world. He prepared us for interviews, career fairs, and interactions with business professionals. He showed how he valued class time and our time as he never wasted class time. As long as the student puts in the work for this course he or she will succeed and benefit from this course.
Fantastic professor. Going into the course I was not very confident with my presentation and public speaking abilities and by the end I felt super confident. Cassese gives great feedback and helpful tips for going into the business world. The course consists of 3 presentations and a paper. No busy work. ALSO, Friday classes don't meet.
An awsome professor, would definitely recommend! He is all about not giving busy work or wasting your time. He wants to focus on skills that you will actually need and use when you get a job. To do well in this class, pay attention to the grading rubrics. You will never fall asleep in this class! The best part: NO EXAMS!
HE IS THE BEST PUBLIC SPEAKING TEACHER. PERIOD. but seriously, if you want a good time and you know that you will be able to attend classes, TAKE HIM!!!! HILARIOUS and so so caring. 15/10 would recommend!
The best business/communication professor I have had an UNCC. He really helped me with my speaking skills. But even more, I feel better prepared for the real world. Mr. Cassese helped me and all of us with the skills that we need to find our right career path. I wish he taught more courses in the business school. I would for sure take him again
One of the best professors you could have. He prioritizes information that will help students succeed in the business world rather than loading us with useless work. After following his advice on how to structure my LinkedIn profile, I was actually being headhunted for my first job, which is very rare!
The best experience from what has to be one of the best professors at UNCC. Mr. Cassese focuses on the real world and gives you the tools you need to be successful. Every assignment has a reason. No mindless busy work. He takes you out of your comfort zone, but in a good way. He is the only one to take for BComm
It was a great, interactive class where we could communicate at a level with our peers and our instructor and also provided an environment conducive to learning and developing confidence. It was unfortunate that we were not able to finish out in the classroom but Mr. Cassese still came up with great assignments to address learning goals.
Mr. Cassese's class is wonderful in the fact that it addresses so many real world experiences that students will encounter in their future and career especially in the Comm Studies field. Topics were appropriate and the instruction was interactive. Students felt at ease in his class and we all develop confidence especially in impromptu speaking .
Dr. Cassese has to be the most amazing professor that UNCC has ever employed. During class, we had assignments that helped us prepare for interviews, helped us with improve speechs, and improve our LinkedIn profiles. Because of our LinkedIn assignment I have had employers contacting me everyday.
Dr. Cassese was the fact that he was very blunt and honest with us as business professional( Not STUDENTS). I also loved the fact that looked at us as Business Professionals and not students. He's the first professor I have ever meet that actually cared about giving us the skill we needed to be in the work force. I can go on for days.
The most applicable to real-life work course you can take at UNCC. He absolutely crushed it and I genuinely learned a fair bit about using PowerPoint and such. Lots of work to be prepared for your presentations, but it was easy to do for such a nice teacher. Make sure you choose a good company for your reports because it makes things a lot easier.
Dr. Cassese gives very practical assignments, and then puts what feels like completely random grades on them. He's a very tough grader. Feedback is tough to read because I think he does voice to text when he's giving feedback. He is not very specific, but he expects us to read his mind. I think he's a great guy you could learn a lot from though.
I loved this class! Prof. Cassese provides great feedback on all assignments. His techniques on how to frame your resume and how to present yourself are spot on. Using his techniques, I scored an interview & was offered a position for an internship that I'd been wanting! Give him a try; he's truly a caring and honest professor.
Wow. Best experience ever. He cares about helping you succeed not just as a student but as a professional. You learn the practical things like elevator speech, interviewing, memos, etc. No busy work. Every assignment counts & can be used to further your career! Asynchronous, but posted videos & I enjoyed every time he reached out bc he is so kind!!
This class is generally pretty easy and the stuff you do is helpful for the real world. But for me, the cons outweigh the pros for this professor. It's asynchronous and he just posts assignments. The instructions are vague for assignments and if you accidentally turn in something late, he won't accept it for any credit and it will tank your grade.
If you are going to take him online, dont. so unorganized, does not reply to emails, & does not give feedback because he doesnt do a single thing for the course. he gets his TAs to grade and do everything for him. youll just be teaching yourself and praying you are doing all the work correctly.
Not great. Didn't meet him in person but from his posted videos he came across stubborn and inflexible. Class was overall a bad experience. Very poor communication from professor on expectations and assignments, all grading was relegated to nitpicky TAs who refused to give 100s. Assignments did not feel that applicable to real life
I had a great experience in Professor Cassese's class. Never have I had a professor who cared so much about his students success. This is a no nonsense real world class. No tests- but presentations and critical papers aimed at your professional growth. Thanks to this class I got an internship What more could you ask for?
This Professor should be what all other professors should strive to be. From the first day I was excited. I learned so much- not least if which was how to present myself and turn my experience into what a potential employee wants to know in order to hire me. This is the Professor to take for BComm. No one else comes close.
From the first day of class, I knew this was going to be a course like no other from a professor like no other. I was right. Not only caring, but accessible outside class. I reached out and he responded. He teaches what you need to know to be successful. Thanks to him I got an internship at my dream company. Thank you Mr. Cassese.
We are only a few weeks into the semester, I can tell that Dr. Cassese is unlike any professor I have ever had. His focus is on the students and helping us learn to become the best business professionals we can be. With just a few assignments I feel as if I am becoming better prepared for finding an internship and then a job.Thank you, Dr.Cassese
Unfortunately I took this Professor because his ratings are great. He would tell you something like "I'm preparing you for the real world" and he is not. His assignment is so unclear and his grading is the worse. You either get a full mark or get a 0 and his TA Curry who is responsible for the presentation grades is the worst human ever. DON'T TAKE
Took Professor Cassese due to the high ratings, but don't be fooled. He seems like a nice guy and wants you to succeed, but his teaching style is awful. The grades are all or nothing, and assignment instructions are very unclear and often has to send multiple clarification emails. If you want to gamble with your grade this is the right choice.
Professor makes his grades all or nothing, if you mess up one part of your assignment you will receive zero credit for any work you may have put towards assignment. Not good at getting back to emails, not understanding of personal matters, do not take.
professor made class entirely online due to an injury, which is not a problem but he would barley work with us when we had questions about unclear instructions on assignments or issues with technology. seems like mr.nice guy but sets you up for failure, sets unrealistic expectations.
Grades are zero or 100% (no in between) on assignments with VERY vague instructions. He claims to prepare students for the "real world" but none of the work actually prepares us for the real world. The assignments are old school. No one does business memos anymore! TA Audrey Curry is horrible. Has an ego from the power she gets to grade. DON'T TAKE
only took because no other options and I HAVE to take COMM3160. stay away from this prof!
nopeeee
Curry and Cassese = evil duo. set you up to fail and somehow make it your fault
they do too much. TA Curry on a power ego. Cassese let's her run the show
some say he was better last semester. this semester he's horrible and maybe he's upset he hurt his footsie.
The TA (Curry) grades so harshly on presentations and assignments. She takes off points for simple hand gestures, if you look at a slide for more than 3 seconds or if you are 1 minute late due to personal reasons. There have also been all-or-nothing grades. I believe that this is one of the worst classes I have ever had. DO NOT TAKE IT!
do yourself a favor, find a diff prof
The TA Audrey Curry is impolite towards her students and grades very harshly.
Both professor and TA are old school and picky, does not make any acceptations, if you mess up once your grade is done for. Only taking class cause it is required. Do yourself a favor and take anyone else.
Terrible professor, barley teaches any content, doesn't use the book. Don't recommend taking as a professor, you can get by but very difficult.
He is a really tough grader, but he doesn't really give a good answer on what he is looking for. I would live by the rubric is gives cause that is all he will follow. He has very weird expectations for when you present in class which is a lot. You need to be perfect, no umm or oks. Need to stand still and memorize everything on the presentation
Not understanding whatsoever. Ignores emails of students which is ironic of a communications professor.
Terrible professor, ruined my experience at uncc and made me ready to get out of here. Clearly doing things out of spite, not understanding at all. Unrealistic expectations, and cleaely is not up to date on how the real world is now a days.
Professor made my efforts feel unvalued, and no matter how many hours I spent on assignments if one thing was wrong you got a zero. I really hope if you get him next semester he improves. Class made me very very sad.
Worst class I've ever had. Never had a professor in comm not know how to communicate. All or nothing assignments. Super vague and wil never elaborate. No announcements to let you know when an assignment is due. No clear requirements doesnt answer questions. Completely ruining my semester pick any other professor because he is tweaking this year.
He is a super tough grader. I followed all his examples and still got points deducted for doing something his example did. Does not really give any context to the assignments. I would not recommend him unfortunately.
Prof is on a high horse and belittled the student's abilities and skills. Not a great role model for students going into the professional business world. Would not recommend this professor.
If you do the work and follow directions, you will not only do well but also get a good grade; you will get interviews and job offers. That's what happened to me. I listened to him, used the information and skills he gave us, and made it work.
Dr. Cassese might be tough, but if you need help, all you need to do is reach out. I spoke with him on the phone-What professor does that"" several times and he was more than willing to help me. Everything in his class is geared toward preparing you for the real world. Its been valuable.
Thanks to what I am learning in this class, I landed a great internship at BOA. In my interview, I drew on many of the topics we had in class. The best tool is the elevator speech which I used and gave me a big plus in my interview. This prof knows what he is talking about.
This professor lays everything on the line and tells you what he is looking for. We got examples of assignments so we knew what to do. He shares real-world information geared to help you succeed. Thanks to this class I got two job offers.
What I liked best and appreciated most is that there was no wasted useless assignment. Everything was assigned for a reason and built on each other. Thanks to this class I helped define my brand and what skills I had to offer. I feel ready to hit the job market and succeed. You will too.
unreliable as a professor, if it is not in his opinion you are wrong, thinks his class is the only class you have when only taking class for credit to be done with degree in business. take any other professor.
would not recommend. TA was horrible. I only took this class since it was the only one available (enrolled late to UNCC). save your GPA, choose another professor
Basically entire class got a 79 (a 100 without a specific citation) on a paper for not including a source that wasnt clearly stated in the requirements. Obviously the majority of students didn't interpret the directions how he thought we would. Had no leeway in this situation even though 95% class did the same thing. Wouldn't curve.
Cassese really cares about letting us focus on our topics/careers of interests. About 4-5 presentations, a few discussion posts and 2 essays. No homework assignments or exams. Make sure to follow rubrics exactly or points will be taken off. He is strict but very clear with what he wants. He responds quickly to emails if addressed correctly.
This professor is an extremely ruthless grader and he does not care about personal writing style at all. If you do not follow the rubric word for word exactly, he will literally give you a 0. He is clearly very intelligent though and I think would be nice if he wasn't my professor.
Cassese was very helpful and cares about his students. His TA made him look bad since he was unable to be in person this past semester. As long as you followed the directions for each assignment, you could easily get an A on all assignments. Really enjoyed how this class directly helped us for our future after college.
Harsh grader, not understanding whatsoever, makes me regret coming to UNCC
The professor canceled every class due to a broken ankle. On days that we did have a speech the TA did the grading and the professor did not attend. The class ended up being a mess because the professor thought he was in charge and so did his TA. They would send out conflicting emails and the grading rubrics were different.
Responds to emails within 5 minutes. Please send him your essays before submitting so he can get feedback. Careful not to turn in assignment late or miss anything on rubric or else automatic 0. :( but otherwise and easy class and it does help you with public speaking. There is also extra credit.
I thought he was a very unfair grader and his grading criteria was always confusing. He talked to you in a condescending way as well. There was like two rubrics per assignment that said different things so you never knew which one was right.
This was a slightly challenging course. There were no tests or quizzes; we had 3 presentations,1 paper, and 5 DBS. Extra Credit is offered if you attend the Niblock Center or sometimes if you attend class on a low attendance day. Follow the instructions for assignments very carefully to get the best grade possible. Ta grades most assignments.
Bro put the most obvious fake reviews ive ever seen. Look at the 3 most recent postive reviews. same writing structure to each other. No one writes like that LMAO
It obvious that this professor cares about giving the best knowledge to his students. His class will definitely provide valuable information that you will actually apply in your career. Great class. Loved listening to his lectures. I will say, you will definitely get out of your comfort zone in his class. But, you will grow as a student.
good guy, exceptionally mid professor. Very specific grader and will deduct points for anything wrong. Only responsive to emails about the assignment, anything else not really. Assignments can be confusing. Has good lectures though
Let me cut to the chase. You can believe or not believe the reviews. Because of what I leave from this professor I got interviews and a job offer. This guy knows what the heck he is doing. You won't regret taking his class.
Professor Cassese is great. He is one of the only professors I have ever had that actually taught me valuable lessons. This class is perfect for preparing for interviews for jobs. Teaches you so much about what to do to ensure you get the job. His TA's do suck, careless grading and never have an actual reason for the grades they give.
This professor wants nothing more than for you to succeed. He is passionate, gives great lectures, and will teach skills that stay with you for the rest of your life. He can be picky about some things on assignments, but you will learn that it is all for a reason. There are no tests, and he loves learning above all else. This is a must-take course.
I'm a be honest I didn't like him at first. Halfway through the semester, just doing the Q&A scenarios really made me change my mind about him. He has the most exceptional connections & I'd come to his guest speeches if you care about learning about the world outside of college.
Do not take this professor. He is very strict in grading and does not consult with students on a personal level as he says he does in class. Literally my lowest grade compared to harder courses, and this is a communications class. His TA Mrs. Curry grades unfairly and will take off points for no reason. Overall, makes it harder than it needs to be.
Professor Cassese is nice. My problem is the TA that he has, Mrs. Curry, who is the worst TA hired. I gave one of the best speeches in the class and she decided to take off points randomly when I executed everything properly. She doesn't care about you, doesn't explain assignments and will take off points just bc she can. For a COMM class, avoid!
when it comes to grading, the course is extremely unforgiving. Any slight mistake or natural college student error will have harsh repercussions. The main problem with this class is the TAs—they are terrible, and I mean terrible. They have little to no care in the world about you and often mark you down in points just because they can.
Professor Cassesse was absolutely amazing, and taught me more than anytbing my other business classes have. His class is definitely more difficult than some other bcomm classes, but that's because he puts the pressure on you in class, so it's not as stressful when you publicly speak or pitch yourself in the real world.
Professor Cassese does care about his students a lot and their success. The grading criteria is very unclear. The rubric and requirements constantly change. Class was full of confusion.
Very unprofessional in lecture and also through email. He does not stick to the rubric but instead voices changes in lecture but never updates the syllabus or rubric. Does not respond to emails. I would highly recommend taking a different Professor.
Very genuine guy. My main issues were with the course itself, as it is presentation-heavy. He provides clarity in-lecture for the various projects throughout the semester. You present in smaller groups for the assigned TA. Very nerve-racking but helps you learn more about yourself as a business professional. No tests & offers extra credit!
I have a dislike for this professor. He put a lot of pressure on the students. When assigning the rubrics, his instructions are unclear. The class was like a public speaking class but on steroids. He also did not treat all students fairly; he had favorites, to say the least. Don't take it save yourself the anxiety and stress.
A couple of things to say about this professor. His rubrics are unclear, he doesn't respond to emails, and he's unprofessional. He has a bad attitude, and he cannot see that he can't teach. The class was presentation-heavy and full of comm majors trying to be business students.
Has a lot of bcomm experience. Was a little intimidating at first but gets better/more comfortable as the semester goes on. Assignments cannot be even 10 seconds late or they will be counted as a 0. Most assignments/discussions are due at 6:00pm Sunday. 4 presentations - 1 presenting song lyrics with a paper, 3 with no notes of any kind allowed.
Professor Cassese runs a tight ship, but engaging with his methods pays off. The lectures are solid, and using Unstuckstudy along with the free textbook helped me prep effectively for assignments. Attendance is a must, but the workload is manageable.
UNCC has to do better! This gentleman is by far the least professional, off topic rollercoaster of a professor I have met. To be concise I will say, this professor and his TA are unprofessional, inattentive and don't meet his own standards on success as business individuals. Have fun getting graded by someone not even looking at you.
Excellent professor. The best course I've taken at UNC Charlotte thus far and possibly the best professor. He is no nonsense, but if you actually go to lectures and engage with the class, you will get so much out of it. He is a tough grader, but I think that just reflects the standards of the business world, so I can't have too many complaints.
Very hard in terms of executing assignments, strict grading, unclear instructions at times, and so much more! Though he pushes students to step out of their comfort zones, it felt like the class didn't have to be so rigorous and should have focused more on being informative and fun to learn. I don't recommend taking this class at all.
You would think this is a fun and informative class, but it's quite the opposite. If you hate giving speeches in front of crowds, I do not recommend it at all. Instructions are never posted on the same page, and if you missed a part, it could have been in an email for all that matters. Has a lot of attitude and strict grading.
Can confidently say no other prof will prepare you more for the real world than him. He is a tough grader and will grill you if you mess up your presentations. Presentations are actually relevant to your professional career. He is a tough grader, but that is the point. Real world isn't supposed to be easy, and he prepares you for it.
I love Professor Cassese!!! He is actually the best professor I ever had. His Business Comm major students, DONT READ their rates too deeply. I got on here and saw like a 2.8/5 and I cannot believe that it is that low. I would take Prof. Cassese for every class if I could. NO textbooks and NO exams, and he cares for you as a person!! Love him down!
Super super unclear instruction and some weird assignments, this class supposed to be easy, instead it dragged me down the most, and I am a Finance major. There is a lot of presentations to do and really not much to learn, making a linkedIn etc but way he grades it is tougher than CALC class lol and yeah, he would not accept any late work at all.
I am reading some of these reviews and don't agree. He is a great professor that just expects you to come to class. You have 2 free missed classes and only have lab when there is something to present. i feel like his lectures are actually informative and helpful for your career. there are rubrics for everything in the modules on canvas.
It was a great class. I enjoyed the lectures and found them to be extremely easy. There are no quizzes or a final. He doesn't use a textbook either! This course is heavily graded on presentations. If you don't like presentations, don't take Professor Cassese. There are about 4 presentations that are required to be done along with discussion boards.
Professor Cassese's class was one of the best college courses I have ever taken. The skills you learn are very useful in the real-world. Grades are presentations and discussion boards (no test/quizzes). Grading criteria can be a little vague, but he is very willing to meet individually to help you understand the context of the assignments. 11/10!
John Cassese is an amazing professor in at UNC Charlotte. No tests or quizzes in this class. Lots of presentation and public speaking heavy. His lectures are inspirational if you actually pay attention and engaged. He is a very tough grader but he will help you succeed in the class if you reach out, ask questions and follow his direction.
This professor is amazing. Im an extremely shy person and this class is presentation and public speaking heavy and to be honest even if I didn't do that well the work on the class has actually helped me in real life situations. Yes public speaking is scary specially for shy people but I promise this professor is so inspiring and lowkey very funny.
