One of the best Prof I have had. Always available, dedicated, truly outstanding

Very nice and helpful
Hot! hot! Hot!
Def. a nice guy, likes teaching and his students, eager and available to help!
very moody -- not easy to talk with-- favors teachers pets
for history. . . not that bad
Love this guy, tells great stories
He was my first crush at JMU. He looks like Indiana Jones...hubba hubba

very good speaker and teacher, just a great guy
Lectures are sometimes boring...but get the point across
Relates to students better than any professor i've had, fantastic teacher
He's SO personable. Great sense of humor & understanding. Very eager/bright.
In a word: outstanding. best prof i've ever had, truly cares about his students

Great prof, very caring, funny and personable.
Very enthusiastic lecturer, difficult midterm, study and you will do fine!
Great guy, always very nice, easy grader.
awesome guy! very helpful, smart and nice...and very adorable!
really tunes into students, lectures can be long, stories make the class fun
Love this class! He's an interesing teacher, fair grader, looked forward to class
great guy, good lectures, but sometimes boring, wants us to do well, fair grader
best history teacher i've ever had, not easy but you'll want to work
wonderful teacher, made class fun, assignements were easy, funny stories
he is a GREAT prof; i hate history but loved his class! he made it interesting.
one of the best classes i've had here at JMU
Great teacher, sucha nice guy. Tells some random sroties sometimes, but I've really enjoyed this class. He's someone who really loves history
This class is SO GREAT!! He is such an interesting and fantastic teacher. I had the class at 8am and I was more awake during his lectures than my other classes! His tests are pretty hard, but he gives a good review and you will do fine if you study.
I love him. Great guy! He is so cute when he talks about his wife/kids! Take notes, go to class, study and enjoy!
Great guy, his tests are pretty tough..grades papers pretty tough, but still a good class..makes class fun...

One of the best professors I've ever had. Fantastic guy.
Interesting lectures but grades on papers are pretty arbitrary. Wasn't able to explain why he gives the grades he does or what could be done for improvement.
Great teacher, but very hard grader.
excellent lecturer. challenges students, wants to promote discussion. grades are reasonable. great even if you're not a history major.
A really good teacher. A lot of work needs to go into his class, but he wants to help you out and his class is manageable. Best 395 to take.
Arndt is great! Class is just lecture based. Come, hear some fun stories, write 4 papers and you're out. Even the papers seemed pretty easy.
super nice guy, funny too. A lot of reading required for class but he's a good teacher. Only 2 tests and both are take home. Easy one page papers bring up grade. Good teacher and class to take.
The lecture classes were a lot of fun to attend, but the papers and exams were graded tougher than most professors without explanation. He often brings up his liberal political viewpoint on opposing the Bush administration. This gets old after awhile
Arndt is the shiznit!!! He is one sexy piece of man!! I would so attend his class again if I could! And best of all...he's liberal!! If the world were more like him, it would be a better place!! Viva la Revolucion!!...Arndt rules...down with BUSH.
Very cool guy but grades very hard. Lectures are boring but he's funny and interacts with students well. Material is hard and there is a lot of reading. Use books a lot. Easy-going and flexible.
There are much better professors for this class.
awesome guy...the class and lectures can be a bit boring at times, but he tries to make them interesting with stories. sometimes goes off on random tangents, but they tend to be very funny. good general education course!! highly reccommend!
Very lucky to get anything above a C on exams and essays.
Im not the biggest fan of the class, but i think he is a great teacher. He is really engaging and helpful. The subject has alot of material to cover, but he tires to make it interesting and tries to get make test best for everyone.Take-Home mid and finals
Lectures are the best part of this class. Do not miss! Discussions on the Middle East are the best lectures and are really interesting with most students getting involved in the discussion. Do the work thoroughly and you will be fine.
A lot of people like him, these people are CRAZY!! He is helpfull, but this class is sooo hard I do not see how that helps. I'm a history major and I got a low C. Try to avoid!!
Nice guy. His lectures are sometimes boring but more often than not they are interesting. He's understanding and lets class out early most of the time. A hard grader bur the class is cool. Assigns a lot of reading. But he's very helpful.
worst teacher ever. pompous, had a 4th hour just so we could read the books he edited. gave d's, corrected grammar that wasn't wrong in the first place, a real jerk. if it wasn't for the t.a. i'd have been lost. not as smart as he'd like to think.
He is so nice. I hate histroy, but he told funny stories and was just great!! All the tests are take home...which makes them harder, but at least you can use notes!! I suggest you take him :)
His tests are hard as ****, but he is a great teacher. Pay attention, take notes, read, come to class. You'll do fine.
He's a really good teacher, very helpful when taking 395, couldn't have done it without his instruction. 422 requires an overwhelming amount of reading (to be expected) but he losens up his grading because it's an upperlevel course, still need work hard.
Very nice guy. Very accomodating and likes to cancel class. Takes attendence when no one shows up. Likes to talk about his daughter. I recomend him.
not too bad, i don't even read the book, it's pointless, i got an A on the midterm just by using his notes from class and i spent the whole night writing his paper (which sucked) and still got a B
Very nice man. Willing to help. There is a lot of reading and essays, but it's not bad at all.
Very articulate and helpful. He is specific on what he expects and grades a little hard, but never unfair. Class is fun and interesting.
He's a very nice teacher. The class is REALLY hard but he lets you know what he expects and he will definately help you if you talk to him! Visit him over office hours and you'll do fine!
A lot of people have been saying this class is hard, but if you took any AP history classes in high school you will breeze through it. Besides that he tells you exactly what he expects. Likes to talk about his daughter as people have said, or just China. Overall pretty good professor.
Class is indepth. Classes alternate between discussion and lecture. He has funny stories and he likes to talk about his adopted Chinese daughters. He is really helpful. One page papers assigned one readings, but are easy. Larger papers assigned on 2 books that were lengthy but interesting.
Very good class, take him!! Extremely doable, just stay on top of things. Don't bother to read the textbook.
Take him for 395! Is extremely helpful and fair, will do everything to help you get through the course. 395 is a ridiculous amount of work, but he makes you want to do it. Extremely nice guy, very student friendly, very very smart... highly recommended... what every professor should be.
HIST 395 is wicked painful, feel free to dread it, but Arndt is the best guy I can think of to have at your side while you're gritting your teeth and working through the misery. Very helpful, insightful, and together. He's definitely the one to take for this class.
This guy is hot, gave me a paper extension. Not too many teachers are that excepting for this class. Talks about theory (which is a drab). Other then that he is a cool guy.
I love Arndt. Take him, he's worth it. He's really down to earth, lets you know what he wants, says there is attendence policy but never takes it. I'd really suggest this guy if youre willing to do a little work. Plus hes hot for a middle aged guy!

pretty good, pretty easy, except for a paper i have do tomorrow which i havent started. hes really good with answering questions & emails. he wants you to do good. talks alot about his adopted chinese daughters and having SARS. he can be somewhat pretenious, try to over look it
great guy, helpful and hopes his students do well. the class itself may seem intimidating at first, but it is structured in a very logical way that builds eventually towards the final paper. assignments are due every class, but dont let that drag you down, they are usually pretty brief. this guy is very knowledgeable. he wears pretty spiffy ties.
This class is hard, and there's a lot of work. If you need to take it, take it with Dr. Ardnt. He's a really cool guy, has great feedback, and is willing to help you! All the 395 profs have similar class structure, and Ardnt specializes in US history- but he can be flexible with the paper topic.
This class was very interesting, and his lectures were always great and extensive. I learned a lot this semester, and there were only four essays (incl. midterm and final) and no pop quizes. He is soo nice, and always makes good jokes about himself. Take him if you really want to learn global history.
Impossible paper grader. Good guy though and willing to work you with you. Just hard to get above a "C" on that term paper....
Professor Arndt is a really good professor. He is laid back and very fair. He also has a really good sense of humor. I hate history, but he makes it interesting. You have to write a couple of 1 page EASY EASY papers, and 2 5-page reaction papers. It's easy if you work at it, and I always had fun in his class!
Interesting lectures on stuff I never knew about. A few writing assignments during the year. Two books to read and write 5 page reports on. Great funny guy. He brought is kids (3 years old)into class for some reason, really sweet.
Very good teacher! There wasnt much critical thinking but its a great class for history majors or people interested in recent issues. Hes interesting and says he has an attendence policy but rarely takes it. ALOT of interesting stories and really cute kids!!
Here's how great a teacher he is: I was his student in Summer of 1986, and I remember him after all these years. His lectures are very animated and comprehensive. He has a GREAT sense of humor. Twenty years later, I still remember what I learned in his class, and now I am working on a Masters to teach high school social studies. GREAT PROF.
Great Teacher, gives alot of lectures. Have a few one page papers and two five page papers. Doesn't grade to hard on the papers, and if take good notes and study exams aren't bad. Nice guy, is willing to help.
I really enjoyed Dr. Arndt's class and felt he was very knowledgable and helpful. There is a lot of reading and writing to do but nothing really different than HIST 395. Arndt is a great guy to take upper level history classes with.

A truly excellent and dedicated teacher. Learned a lot in his class. Highly recommended.
Prof. Arndt is a good teacher. The material in the class is dry, but he presents it with enthusiasm and subtle humor to maintain interest. Grades are made up of papers, which he grades tough but fairly, and class participation/ HW assignments. Good class and good professor.
A good overall professor. I found some of his grading on my written work to be unfair. Approachable.
Awesome guy! He takes attendance, but he honestly doesn't take it that often. He's really dedicated to the subject and you can actually learn a lot. Homework isn't too hard and the Middle East simulation game is definently worth taking the class for
great professor, what i want all my professors to be like - may grade a bit easy, though
AWESOME!

His lectures are hard to follow. You can never interrupt him to ask questions and when you finally do, he makes you feel dumb. His final is RIDICULOUS and unnecessary for a gen-ed class. I have a 3.9 gpa and I thought his class was hard and unfair.
Very Hard class. Very hard final. Nice guy though.
This was a very challenging class. You really need to go to class and take good notes. It isn't impossible, just a lot of work. The final was very hard for some reason. Great guy, hard class, but doable.
Totally loved him. He was very fair and gave very good and interesting lectures. If you go to class and get the notes its not too hard.
great class, very structured and straightforward
GREAT TEACHER
Great Guy, but lectures are long and boring with almost zero in depth details about anything. Loves to talk about his critical thinking glossary that is pointless and redunent. Awful grader. Gives me an A on one paper and a D+ on another and i took the same amount of time and effort on both. Very Inconsistant. Do not take him if you dont have to.
Interesting and enjoyable class. He does a good job of clarifying the material and is very strait forward.
OK class, Good lecturer, fun project, somewhat of an easy grader and I think he's hott, So I'd recomend taking the class
Professor Ardnt teaches a good class. He is a great lecturer and is obviously very smart. He is very specific about the criteria of the required papers, and study sessions are very helpful. If I were to take upper level history, I would want to study under Arndt.
welcome to Miami Prof. Attar- Also the class itself may seem intimidating at first, but it is structured and very logical
Great Professor. Structured just like 395 so if you do not like writing a 20 page paper then do not take. Otherwise he is very helpful and a fair grader.
Very helpful for future classes when writing papers. Extremely hard grader. Assignments are very vague and his responses are straightforward and critical. Be prepared to work harder than any other class you've been in before. Again, EXTREMELY TOUGH GRADER.
Dr. Arndt is probably the best college professor I have taken. Although the course is very difficult, he explains assignments extremely well and often, gives excellent feedback, and does an excellent job of reducing the inevitable stress. The assignments are constant, but if you keep up, you will do just fine.
I love Dr. Arndt!!!!! Although he is a hard grader and expects a lot out of his students, isn't that what we pay for? Arndt is a wonderful professor who really cares about his students from personal issues to school work he is there for you. A real stand up professor. HIGHLY recommend IF you are going to work and like early American History.
Dr. Arndt is by far one of the best and smartest professors I've ever taken. He is understanding about deadlines, but doing homework and doing it on time will boost your grade in the end. He knows his history VERY well and is super helpful with the required 20 page paper for 395. He teaches you how to research and to research in DETAIL. Take him!
Choosing Dr. Arndt for HIS 395 was a great decision. He is really helpful and cares about his students. He knows his history and will help you narrow down your topic. You have to go to class and to the readings to do well. He makes you work for your grade and isn't going to hand it to you. I got a B but only missed one class all semester. Take him.
Professor Arndt is awesome. I had him for the dreaded "History 395" class , the one everyone told me to avoid my first year at JMU because of how hard it was. It's only difficult if you make it so. There is A LOT of work to writing a successful paper, but he prepares you and helps with everything. Very understanding when I had life issues too.
Dr. Arndt is an amazing professor. His lectures are fast, but he goes into great detail and you can tell he is really passionate about the subject. He is also very helpful and understanding; you can tell that he cares about you as a person and not just as a student.
Tough grader. Grade is based off of 2 papers (of books you read), midterm paper, final paper, and participation/attendance.
The class is very arbitrary and Dr. Arndt is a tough grader. You do not need the text book, but the books are crucial. You will take notes from the beginning to the end of the class. There are about four long papers assigned and six short papers based off of the books and notes in class. Participate in class!
Professor Arndt is a very hard grader. The class is extremely lecture heavy. The midterm and final are the only exams. The midterm is to create an informative website with groups. You may or may not be paired with competent peers because groups are random. Your grade will also depend on two essays about two books that you must read on your own.
Doctor Arndt is increible. I am currently enrolled in his History of James Madison. He is amazing; his lectures are fantastic. He goes over the readings before any paper is due making it impossible to get confused. He assigns SHORT 100 word summaries for the readings assigned. He is amazing and would recommend him 12/10.
Dr. Arndt is quirky but wants you to know the material. He is very passionate about history and his students. There is a lot of reading and writing but he reviews in class. I recommend meeting with him one on one to discuss the material or review papers if you get confused. He extended deadlines if asked.
Dr. Arndt was one of my FAVORITE professors. He is so caring, sweet, and gives you really good advice for your papers. He is a tough grader on the final paper but hard work in the class will 100% pay off if you ask him for help. He cares so much about having his students pass and will always answer your questions within minutes to hours. love him
He is one of the best professors I have ever had. He's caring and understands we can be overworked- will always extended deadlines and is so understanding. Class is discussion based on readings and grades are based on a midterm, final, and three reaction papers on the books. Interesting class and he is just all around great.
