This teacher makes the class really interesting. He cares a lot about the students and their progress throughout the semester. I was really lucky to have him as a teacher. Not a lot of work and you learn as you go.

Just the best! I learned a lot and have fun at the same time. He is the #1!

J.J. sticks to the syllabus and does not surprise you with an unpredictable grades. 6 1-page long assignments; final presentation on lit. periods.

He's a very good teacher! I got freaked out by him in the beginning because he was so jittery all the time but he's cool, down to earth & easy but fun class. I Recommend anyone to take him!

amazing professor. helps you after class and is very clear with the assignments. he doesn't mind if you have other things to do during one of his classes and will let you go get what you need done. work is fun. i get to write what i want and he enjoys reading it. he loves variety among all of his students so the class is never boring. funny prof.

AWESOME teacher..easy A. But he's really out there, I mean he's young, and a little crazy but super cool, he talks to you like a friend not like a teacher. But he does make u buy his book, which is out there as well. (read it nd it says it all)

J.J is a great professor. English 1 is fun with him. The class is easy but you really have to write a lot. He is also very funny. Take the class!

J.J is my favorite professor! I am so glad that I was lucky to pick his class for my ENC 1101. Class is easy, even though you have to write a lot. That's pretty much all you do. His class is all about teaching you to develop a point and how to explain it. If you get stuck on something, he goes over everything until its crystal clear.

COLAGRANDE is a great professor!!!!!there is a LOT of writing but he makes it super fun. I loved his class!!!!!! take him u wont regret it!

Fantastic teacher. His class is challenging so if you trully want to learn than take him. If you just want someone who's going give A's away then take some else. he explains everything clearly and he is super laid back outgoing and makes class funny. He is a total spas though. You will be a better writter after his english class.dont be late!

This teacher is one of the best I've had. His lectures are so much fun he's a big jokester. he really gets the students to engage in whatever lecture he gives. There IS a lot of writing but he lets you write about WHATEVER you want and explains it very thoroughly. I highly recommend him if you don't mind putting in a little extra work

Lacks a little of professionalism, but that isn't a bad thing. He connects with his students and is very adamant on making you a better writer. His speeches are interesting and you will not be bored. In the end, if you follow his steps, you will pass. If you are an above average writer you will get an A. 30 papers total, spread out spaciously.

He's a really great teacher. Just make sure to do the work and if you are a decent writer, you will get an A. Also, I would suggest that you take his class for a regular term (like a full fall or spring or even a 12 week summer) instead of a 6 or eight week term to make it easier on yourself. The work will be much more spread out.

He loves what he does.He is a really good teacher. The only bad thing is that you need to do a lot of writing. His class is not hard but is not easy. He is very funny. You will laugh every time you go to his class.

Jay Jay is an amazing professor! <3 He creates an amazing work atmosphere & is totally amusing once he starts his lectures. Though, don't confuse fun with slacking! He wants you to be as involved as possible and will expect your best efforts ALWAYS. If you want to learn and really have a COLLEGE LEVEL experience, he's the professor for you!Recomend

J.J is a very good professor. At first, he may seem a little intimidating, but as time goes by you'll go with the flow. His assignments are easy, clear and interesting, coming from a esl student for one year. After taking this class, you will improve a lot.Don't bother buying books, for he doesn't use them. I highly recommend him.

His class is easy, but you need to write a lot. His book Deco sucked, but whatever you don't even have to buy it because you won't use it. You won't use a book at all, so it saves money. I recommend him if you write well.

His instructions are very clear, there are a lot of essays that you have to write during the semester but it is about the class not him. Read his book, fallow his instructions, and be at the class, get an A. He is a good professor.

a very different professor. He can open your mind and make you like writing. Don't be lazy and get your work on time. There is no much reading, but there is much writing. Creativity is very appreciated! Totally recommend!I took him for both ENC1101 and ENC1102, loved it!

Very easy going professor. One of the best professors I have had. If you are not lazy and do your work on time you should not have problem passing this class. You must do some writing and reading but nothing complicated. He gives sufficient time to submit your work. He is very good helping students to achieve their goals. Just DO NOT BE LAZY!

I was glad to have him for my very first college semester. It's not that the class was easy; J.J is just really good at teaching the material. Just get your work done when it's due. No need for textbook is needed. Lectures are fun to listen to, easy to understand, and always on point. He is very understanding, and will almost always help you out.

Professor Colagrande gives very clear and precise lectures on the literature assigned to read. As long as you follow directions and turn in assignments on time, you will pass the class. You will definitely learn how to edit and revise your work. I highly recommend his class.

A very cool professor,someone who the students really identify with. Very down to Earth and charismatic. English majors may find his class to be too easy or too relaxed when comparing to other other EnglishLit classes. If you don't like English: TAKE HIM, he will help you LIKE IT! Write all essays, his grading is not too hard at all.

The stories I read in his class were great! I loved all of them. Homework is very easy: a minimum of 2 pages per story. Take him! You'll love his class!

Professor Colagrande is an nice down to earth guy, but doesn't really teach you anything. just makes you write throughout the whole semester. You have a total of about 15 not hard essays and not hard grader, but it is A LOT OF WRITING! So if you don't really like to write i recommend to not take him. But if you don't mind take him.

His lectures are long but he is enthusiastic which makes his class exciting. J.J. will also be there for you when you need help on an assignment.

His lectures are fun. He is fair grader. As long as you do your work and submit all your assignments on time he will give you a feedback and a good grade. If you need a help he is there for you. Would recommend!

Took him for ENC1101 & ENC1102. He is my favorite professor so far! You do have a lot of essays to write but we're in college so that shouldn't be hard at this point. He gives you at least a B just for doing ALL the work. He's hilarious, if I could I would definitely take him a third time.

Colagrande is amazing - he has a way to make you discover and enjoy writing. In his class you will definitely learn not just english lessons, but life lessons as well. Consider his class as a way to get to know and enjoy a professor that wants you to enjoy the college life, and hopes that you take something from his class, unforgettable times.

He is very open minded professor. attendance not mandatory but he will deduct points in the final grade due to absences. took him for ENC1102, gave me two major writing assignments. you will read a lot and get lectured on it, but he gives you time to read. BE READY TO WRITE!

Honestly really amazing teacher!! I was a mediocre writer in the beginning, but throughout the semester he really showed me how to excel and I ended up in the top of all his classes :) If you do what he say's your basically guaranteed a B. If you want the A, you'll have to put in extra work. He may seem like a goof ball, but I really recommend him!

I never expected to have such an unorthodoxed, inspiring and hilarious professor. He assigns an essay every week which takes about 3 hours each. It may seem like a lot but it's not. The essays are do all at once every few weeks, so there is plenty of time to do them. He self-advertises a bit but he has goals. Definitely Take! Writing is re-writing

This has to be one of the greatest teachers i have ever had. He makes a boring English class extremely entertaining. Very Very Very Very funny. He will give you second chances on late work as long as he sees effort. As long as you write the essays in the exact format he ask for you will pass.

The professor is super passionate about his work. I took him for the 6 week semester and all the students had to work on were 9 short essays and a final research paper. He does jump from topic to topic very quickly but since it was a 3 hour lecture it make it worthwhile. Don't procrastinate and you'll definitely pass the class. Recommend 10/10

Guys he is honestly a trip. I have so much fun in that class just because of the simple reason that this guys is funny. You work by portfolios so you have a long period of time to work on his assign. but it mostly simple if you fall his class it's because you didn't follow instructions. This guy tries to make as easy as possible. But you learn.

Professor Colagrande is AMAZING! I hate english but coming to class it's easy for me because he makes the lectures funny and entertaining. You will learn so much more than english. There's 4 stories that you need to write a 2 page paper about and then 2 assignments based on two books. It's a lot of work but if you don't procrastinate you'll be fine

Starting his class I thought he was going to be some fake know it all and on the contrary this man is the greatest professor at dade. If you do not take him, you're missing out on some great life lessons and hilarious lectures. P.S. if you take his class late he gets tired and lets you out early but with knowledge.

I took him for summer B in 2017 and it wasn't hard at all. Gave us a page to write on a topic of his choice, but it was creative writing. two projects and a final. If you do everything on time you'll do just fine and if you turn it in early enough he'll give feedback to resubmit it if anything. textbooks are optional (he emails a pdf version)

Where do i even begin! HE IS AMAZINGGGG, so funny! (sometimes the younger students dont find him as funny) He is a very smart man, first day i was a bit nervous he was everywhere but he taught us more than just Writing, he gets deep into his lectures, you will def learn alot. Take him, yes its a bit of work but he makes it worth it. No textbook req

I have never had a professor teach with such passion. IF YOU WANT A FUN, DIFFERENT WAY OF LEARNING AND A TEACHER THAT LETS YOU EXPAND YOUR CREATIVITY PLEASE TAKE IT WITH JJ. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.

Had John for 1101 and 1102. His work is very simple, do it and you'll receive a B or higher, he'll even say this at the beginning of the semester. The workload consists of 2-page double-spaced papers each week. Finals could be 8-15 Pages depending on 1101 or 1102. No books needed(or very cheap $10 for 1102) I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PROF.

I wish I would have taken him for 1101. At the beginning I wanted to drop out because he seemed really intense, but I'm glad I didn't. His lectures are funny and inspirational. The amount of workload isn't that big, and I actually improved my writing thanks to him. Go to his office hours, he reviews your papers before turning them in. TAKE HIM!!!!

He is a great teacher, he's hilarious but he gets his point across. We do have to write a 20 page paper for the final but he helps us out with it. We do also have to write and read a lot throughout the year but you will appreciate it.

Professor John Colagrande is amazing at what he does. He is not like the ordinary stereotypes people assume of an English teacher. He makes writing less complicated and easier to learn and to share with other people. My writing has improved tremendously and yours will too if you have him as your teacher.

I took him this summer and he was awesome! I would 100% take him again we had 6 essays that were one page and then 3 essays. 2 of which were 2 pages and the last one was 7-8 page essay. But he lets you do as you please. I missed I think about 4 classes which is a lot for summer but he emails you all the work. I recommend going to class. He's funny

I took him for Spring 2018, he is beyond amazing and has great experience when it comes to writing and english he is a journalist and author himself. I totally recommend I took his class in the late afternoon and I was NEVER BORED MUST TAKE, he is hilarious and you will pass if you do the classwork and HW. BEST english teacher ever.

Best choice I've ever made! If you are into interesting discussions and debates, you will love taking his class. He pushes you to be creative and challenge yourself. He will make sure you pass with an A or B. He is hilarious too. There are no tests, just a lot of papers. As long as you put in all your effort and do the papers, you will pass.

Colagrande is a good English professor to start off college, he says in the very beginning if you do all his work he will give you no lower than a B, of course, there is grade lowering if you turn in something late. Gives 2 midterms which consist of 6 essays each and a final he honestly just wants you to pass with an A or B take him he's not bad

Took him for ENC 1101 and 1102, lectures are always fun and the workload is reasonable. Cares about his students and wants every one to do well.

His class was okay but somewhat difficult to receive an A unless you are an amazing writer. If you are an okay writer and want to ensure a B in English I would recommend this class. I would mostly recommend it for summer B as it was only a midterm consisting of 6 essays and a final consisting of two analysts and a paper that is minimum 8 pages.

J.J. Colagrande is an outstanding English professor. With a strong emphasis on editing, he assigns a handful of assignments throughout the semester. He offers plenty of time to complete them and guarantees at least a B if you demonstrate effort. Strongly recommend.

This class was my favorite of the semester the lectures were good and easy to understand. He is super funny. He grades the semester in 2 parts of about 6 essays each.

Best English professor there is, honestly! He's understanding and cares about his profession, unlike many other MDC professors. He actually teaches you how to write and edit your writing until it's perfect. If you take this class with him as the professor, you will definitely learn to love writing. Easy A.

Although my personality didnt mash up with JJs, he made English interesting. JJ is probably the best English teacher at Miami Dade. Do the writing homework assignment before the due date. You DO NOT want to procrastinate on any of them at the last minute. Show up to class and do the assignments on time, and you should be fine.

Pretty good professor, Took him for ENC1101 and had about 9 easy 1-2 page essays and the final of 5-8 pages with whatever argumentative topic we want. Honestly if you do the 10 essays and turn them in on time you're guaranteed a B or A and he emails most of the topics and what to do on them too.

Professor Colagrande is hilarious and chill and laid back, you'll enjoy his class if you can take a joke. Just do your assignments and do your readings, you might only have one book and occasional passages to read but they are short and enjoyable.

The coolest college professor on the planet. His class consists of 11 assignments, all due at the end of the semester. No due dates, so if your a procrastinator like me it might be a little tough. Last 3 assignments are a little long but all doable. You don't have to show up to class but it helps if you do. Lectures are enjoyable, I loved him!

Professor Colagrande definitely has been one of the best professor I had so far. Very funny and good jokes while teaching the class. I left the class smarter every time on every aspect.

Best ENC teacher in the school, without a doubt. Do all the assignments and you'll finish with an A or a B. He's hilarious and makes the class entertaining. Although ENC 1102 is a literature class, don't be fooled, JJ makes it easy. The class seemed more like a creative writing class than a Lit class. If creative writing is your forte, lucky you.

Great professor. Teaches you things about life you did not even know and is very down to Earth. Grades is based off your writing portfolio. Lectures are entertaining and funny yet still relevant to the subject. Would recommend to anyone taking any ENC level. Quality professor

He is a very chill professor, his class is very easy to pass with an A as long as you do your work and REVISE it. He is very funny and gives good life lessons. Trust me you are not going to regret taking this professor. Overall work-wise, you only need to do short review essays and 2 big easy, all the work is due at the end of the semester.

Only 10 assignments in the whole semester, he gives you until the end of the semester to finish them. Its pretty easy, we spent most of the time watching episodes of different series and commenting on them. The final 2 projects are easy, one of them is write a story with the hero's journey, which I enjoyed a lot! Sincerely the best professor I had!

JJ is as good as it gets when it comes to English professors. He's hilarious and super laid back. Just follow instructions and do all the assignments and you are guaranteed to get an A! He's very knowledgeable and there was never a dull lecture. Strong Steve-O vibes.

Fantastic professor! He is beyond fair in grading! He responds to emails quickly and is available for questions outside class. He treats students with respect, he's encouraging and understanding. He gives opportunities to improve a grade, but doesn't flood them with tons of extra work. I hope to be able to take more classes with him in the future.

I had this online because of covid and he cut everything in half. I never had experience him in person. He answered all the questions asked on the board chats. You will have a lot of discussion questions and most of the books assigned won't have any work towards them.

I has to take this class remotely because of covid, and it was probably the easiest class I've ever taken. He cut a lot of the material, so there were just 2 essays, a few discussions, and some quizzes that allow multiple attempts. If you're looking to actually learn something I wouldn't tale him, but if you just want an A he's a solid choice

I hate English but this man made writing so easy and fun, lots of writing but you get to pick the topic and if you dont you get to twist it up however you like. For the first time ever words flowed as I wrote because the topics were actually interesting.

Hey! Normally I would wait till the end of the semester, however, I must review him now, so people can jump on him while registering for SPRING. This professor is by far the coolest English Teacher out there. Very caring! Responded to all my emails in time, sometimes immediately. EASY A or EASY B. You dictate the outcome, whether you do the work.

Prof. JJ is by far the best professor at MDC. He does not like seeing his students fail so he will try his best to pass you! I had him during COVID so I did a lot of the BlackBoard assignments but I did attend a couple of his lectures that were optional and he is AMAZING. Please consider him, no other prof. like him at MDC!!

He is good, a nice professor. There is a lot of work but in this class he was not responsible for that because the program was designed for MDC. He cut a lot of work, there were 2 essays, and other assignments through Blackboard.

JJ is not only the best professor I've ever had, but also one of the best people I've ever known. He genuinely cares so much for his students and does everything possible to help them. I took this Prof for ENC 1101 and 1102 and I passed easily. He divides the class into 3 modules each modules has about 2-3 discussions and 1 essay per module. for my class he only made us do 2 Essays only!! He wants his students to pass. Accepts late work. He records lectures and posts it for us to watch on our own time. Easiest class ever!!!!!!!!

I don't know why anyone would ever give this professor a bad review, he is nothing short of AMAZING! My 1st impression of him was great. He is nice, funny, and shows he loves what he does. I took him for summer and the course was online so it was not hard at all and he made it easy to contact him in case we had any questions. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!

Prof. JJ is the most caring professor at MDC. He genuinely wanted everyone to pass. The class was designed by the college and not him, but he still cut a bunch of assignments and dropped the midterm for us. He gave us a second topic for each writing assignment and let us choose. He bumped multiple students from 89 to a 90. Best professor!

He made the class very interesting although I took it online. He went out of his way to provide extra videos, prepared lectures, class material (text books, articles), gave honest feedback, and truly got me to appreciate creative writing. He is a fair grader and challenges you to read and explore different topics with lots of quizzes.

The best professor you can ever have!! He is so understanding, gives you so much time to turn in assignments, and truly cares about his students. Online classes usually feel a bit disconnected from the professor but he didn't make it like that. He would send videos to update us, he is amazing.

Realest professor ever, Honestly he's better than half of the advisors too. He teaches you a lot about the school, scholarship programs, and real-life stuff. He always crushes his lectures. As long as you do all your assignments you get an A-B.

Took him for ENC 1102 in person. He's the BEST PROF or teacher I've ever had. It's hard to explain but his class isn't a normal English class. The lectures are more about life. AWESOME CLASS -- easy too but there is a lot of writing, so don't procrastinate!!

Easily the best professor you can choose. He is an extremely fair grader and cut many of the work for the online course. He sends out videos through blackboard even though he doesn't have to. Accepts late work and doesn't want you to fail. Doesn't get better than him!

I don't usually go out of my way to actually rate a professor but I had a feeling that I needed for this teacher I never had anyone so easy and his class was a breeze he gave you all the work on the first day like 10 quizzes and like 6 discussion board and 2 essays. And he gives a pdf version of the book we need.

He is a real person, honest, and funny. I loved this class. Be ready to analyze.

If you need an ENC 1102 teacher TAKE HIM!! He is an amazing professor who actually made the class worth attending and the assignments are clear and can be done quickly. He responds to emails fast and I recommend him as a professor any day:) If you have the opportunity to have him as a Professor take him you won't regret it!!

I withdrew from ENC1102 twice before so this professors class was my third shot. He was pretty cool and just gave a lot of essays as homework but he guides you through all of the readings. As long as you do the bare minimum of doing the homework and assignments then you'll pass. The midterm and final are 4-8 page essays, which wasn't hard.

This was hands down the best class I've ever taken. There were topics about about life such as love, loss, betrayal etc. within the lectures. He really cares about his students and wants us to pass. He will guide you through everything and make the class very entertaining. It was a very nice and comfortable environment. You won't regret it trust.

This was a 12 weeks class but I finished in a week and five days. JJ is very sweet and hilarious. The class consists of a few graded quizzes, discussions, and two essays which are really easy. There is no midterm or final exam.

Took him during fall 2022. He is the best!! Every class we watched a clip of a tv-show or movie. Assignments was to write summary on what we watched during class. All the work is due at the end of the semester. TAKEE HIMMM!!

Personally, I don't think he is the best online. He was not very familiarized with online classes and seemed kind of frustrated with it (he kept mentioning it) making him come off as rude. My advice: take him in-person. Overall, class was super easy and he TRULY wants you to pass. All papers were due by the end of the semester. Pretty simple.

In all this class was super easy. You had two main essays, quizzes, and a few discussion posts. The professor emails you back fairly quickly and helps answer all your questions. He helped make the course super easy by cutting out our final and giving us an option to do creative writing for essays. Whether online or in person you'll have a good time

I loved this class, he is the best one, everything is due at the end of the semester, the lectures were super interacting and i simply loved the vibe everyone was participating, i would take him again for sure.

He was one of the best professors I've ever had. The class was based off of 8 assignments. The last two were considered your finals. Due by the end of the semester, so time was given. He did do lectures every class but it helped with the assignments. He made it fun and interesting. He genuinely cared for his students. A class I will never forget!

He is a good teacher and I recommend him 100%. Only thing is that he can go off topic but even when he does its still interesting. PROCRASTINATION is your enemy, the assignments are easy but if you leave them for the end its a lot.

I can't begin to try and describe what an easygoing, clear, straight-to-the-point, and accommodating professor he is! During my time taking this class, he made sure to keep us posted with updates via email, while responding to emails quickly. No final exam!!! The work isn't hard, he just wants you to TRY. 10/10

100% the best prof. If you genuinely try, you will get an A or B. The course has 8 assignments, but he explains everything on the 1st day of class so it's crystal clear. He is fun and wants to build relationships with his students (he knew my class by name). If he wants you to read "textbook wise" he sends you PDFs so you do not need to purchase.

Trust the reviews, Colagrande is incredible! The assignments are pretty doable, nothing to worry about. Plus he gives you a whole month to complete one module containing six assignments. Only four modules, and no final. Super understanding, but of course, don't take advantage of his kindness. He's worth taking, so save yourself from the others!

Professor Colagrande is THE best professor I've had in my whole time at MDC. He offers creative writing prompts as an alternative to boring writing prompts. Also, he gives great feedback and his course is easy to follow and understand. 1000/10 would recommend!

Take him. His creative writing prompts push you to be more imaginative and write beyond your usual limits. I loved his online class, hope he offers more online classes in the future. We analyze a few short but interesting writings, watch episodes, then write a 2-page paper or a 1-paragraph AI artistic statement. It's a fantastic experience!

Professor Colagrande's ENC1102 class is a fantastic experience. His creative writing prompts push you to be more imaginative, and the assignments are straightforward yet enjoyable. Unstuckstudy was a great study tool alongside the class materials. Definitely take this class if you can!

It took me a bit to realize his grading style so I struggled in the beginning, however he wanted to push us to write to our potential. He removed the final exam and accepts late work which was a blessing. You will work for your grade but it's not a difficult class. I'd recommend it

I actually liked him as a professor. The class wasn't hard, but there was a lot of reading I went through a total of six books. There were only two essays and plenty of quizzes, but no final exam. He was flexible with late work and responsive to emails, which was a big plus.

Listen, If you have ADHD or very forgetful do not take him. He changed up his way of teaching and instead had you write up as the semester went along and you would write up about 8 essays in total. You submit them as a portfolio. I was very forgetful and tbh is overall a great prof. I simply found find that this style did not work for me.

One of the best professors I've taken so far. His assignments are extremely easy and he's a super fair grader. There's no reason to fail other than barely showing up or just doing nothing. He's accessible outside of class and is always in office for extra help. Take his workshops! He gives great feedback for your writing and they're not hard.

Great professor. I took this class online and he removed some of the assignments, the proctored midterm, and the final. He gave alternative writing assignments (a creative writing story) for essays. The quizzes were super easy. He gave people an opportunity to submit any late assignments at the end of the semester. He just wants people to pass.

I took John for ENC1102 and I wish more professors were like him. His class was easy and he definitely wants you to get a good grade. Attendance is not in the syllabus but he cares about you being present/participating in class. Definitely be ready to WRITE, but is not that hard. He is also very funny and creative, his class was very inspirational.

Great professor! he made the final exam optional and there was no midterm. He got rid of some assignments which is great! Only thing is that he is a tough grader, very specific on responses but besides that he's great! I'd take him again

Very clear, organized, and willing to help students pass the class. He bumps peoples grades up and accepts late work, all i would say is he's kind of unpredictable when it comes to grading. No midterm/final, he provides you with plenty of example prompts for your essays (2 essays total), simple discussions, and 2 attempts for the quizzes.

Professor J.J. is the best!! I took him a couple years back. He makes his English class engaging and fun. The assignments are an easy A and they are due at the end of the semester. Just put forth the effort and you will pass with an A or B. Attend his lectures to get a good understanding of the assignments, and don't procrastinate!
