very cool teacher! very easy to get along with and test aren't that bad at all
Great teacher! If you go to class you'll do well. Must take him b4 you leave
Go to class, lots of little quizzes. His lectures are interesting.

Very good teacher overall. Great lectures!
Cole is an excellent teacher, and you will have no problem staying awake in his lectures (Narcolepsy excluded of course).
very interesting. he knows what he is talking about, and is enthusiastic about it.
He knows what he's talking about, but the tests should test more over the lectures rather than the book

I made an A and never bought the book. He is the most childish grown up guy I've ever met, but just go to class, and you'll do well.
awesome teacher
Overrated. Wanted to be everyone's buddy instead of actually teaching his subject matter. Decent enough guy, but that's about all he brings to the table.
This class isn't hard and he tried to make things fun, I would reccommend this to anyone!
He was a great teacher, and makes the information very interesting. I never read and still made a B in the class.
Easy class but some of the questions on the multiple choice were bogus and didn't really pertain to the reasoning part of class, just memorization. Go to class everyday though because there's no book and no powerpoints so all you have to study for the tests are your notes.
He is awesome! I have not been inspired to get to know a teacher outside the classroom in a long time. He is a good teacher and an even greater guy. DEFINITELY TAKE IT!!!

One of the best teachers I've ever had. Brought a reaL world approach to a college class. We had the opportunity to meet people and gain knowledge that we will actually use in our careers. Great guy......also very fashion forward!
Best teacher I have ever had, he is great!
THE BEST TEACHER EVER!!!! Really nice guy. I liked the class so much that I changed my major. Don't skip this one, b/c you'll miss a lot. It's not a hard class, you're an idiot if you fail this one.
I took Markets and Consumers from Mr. Cole he was a good teacher, he kept things interesting, and was very fair. There were no surprises in the grading and tests were not bad.
All-around awesome guy. He needs to teach more important classes, he's always prepared and is very clear, concise and makes lots of references so that you understand topics. He reviews almost TOO well, as you could reasonably miss lots of classes and pass, just going the day or two before the exam dates. Don't do this; he's the best.
AWSOME teacher. By far the best Markets & Consumers teacher @ the Walton College. He is fair, and he curves everyone's grade at the end of the semester because the common final is difficult. He also drops some of the attendance grades in case u missed.
Be careful when studying for his tests. Every question has 2 possible answers that could work... he has a laid back personality and strolls through the material like its not a big deal at all and then come test time his tests do not reflect that same attitude... i always wonder if he even wrote his own tests.
Cole is the best Markets and Consumers professor. Even if you must take him at 7:30am like I had to, he is better than the other professors at a later time in the day. If you want a possible A and a for sure B, get Cole some way or another. I go to class every time and have a high B in there and I am a B student
In all honesty, the worst professor I've had (and I'm a people lover). Oftentimes he didn't even know the answers to his own test questions! Useless if you need help or want him to explain something. He's too distracted with his business to care about the class. The only positive thing I can say about his class is that his guest speakers are good.
I know everyone loves him for markets and consumers, so I took him for selling and sales. The material seems so EASY and then you get his test and there seems like 3 right answers. Also, beware of the presentation he grades it very very hard!
He's the real deal.
Great teacher.
Dr. Cole is one of the greatest teachers I have ever had. Great Teacher, pay attention in class and you will do just fine on his tests.
Great teacher. Very clear, positive, helpful and fun. The only possible complaint I might have is that the course moves a little slow, but Markets and Consumers is a freshmen-level business course, so that is to be expected. I strongly recommend him.
Great TEACHER, TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES, Very nice, very helpful, very fun classes. I've had two so far. They are hard to get an A in but a pretty easy B!
His class was very easy. He really cares about his students and wants them to pass. He is very helpful and his lectures are boring but he makes them fun. He's a pretty funny guy.
Go to class if you want to take your own notes, but I rarely went and it was not hard for me to get a copy. John goes over information that is interesting and fun to learn. Take him for markets!
Nice teacher and interesting class. He grades pretty hard on projects though, so don't think you can get away with little effort and thought. Tests are sometimes strange...some of the questions are more opinion oriented and weren't covered in class. Take or get good notes and you should be okay. Easy to get a B, have to work for an A.
I loved John Cole! He was so interesting, even at 7:30 in the morning. His tests aren't that hard, just go to class and study the definitions from the book. Take him!!!
Professor Cole is a great professor. I had him at 8:30 in the morning, and the material itself is pretty boring, but he tried to make it interesting. The tests are easy - he tells you which pages in the book you need to read and the rest comes from his in-class lectures. FYI though - He does grade the projects hard and gives points for attendance.
Cole is not as great as everyone makes him out to be.He is very charismatic, though. Tons of uselss definitions in the readings. Tests are tricky. Attendace is mandatory b/c he checks to see who is there every few classes. One of my least favorite classes, but would prob take Cole if I had the chance.
I really liked him. When he has optional review days for the tests, go because he'll tell a couple questions that will definitely be on it. Just hope you get a good group or it won't be very fun. The final was A LOT harder then the regular semester test; it had a lot of terms from the book.
One of my favorite teachers. He was a little bit anal especially regarding the presentation but overall, I think that he grades fairly and if he puts bad questions on the test, he will give them back to you. Being in class is a good idea, but I was fine with that bacause he made the material interesting. Great Teacher!
Professor Cole made markets interesting, even at 7:30am. He knows what he's teaching and is really helpful if you have questions. He's not joking when he says "if you don't read the book you will get a guaranteed C on the tests" so read the book! attendance wasn't mandatory but he does do random attendance sign ins worth points.
Mr. Cole is a good teacher overall. My only complaint is that he makes you hand write all the notes instead of sharing his slides with the students. I was so busy trying to frantically copy down all the slides that it was really tough to pay attention to what he was saying...
John Cole is a GREAT teacher. He can turn a somewhat boring topic in to something interesting. He is strict but fair on grading and how he treats you. Speaking as a student who had several classes with him I look back and can see how he not only taught the subject in class but taught many life lessons as well. You cant ask for a better teacher.
I love this professor! He will make you fall in love with marketing! He's so enthusiastic when he teaches and he truly cares about his students! Definitely do the readings because they will be on the test! If you take good notes and come to class you will be fine!
Great teacher! He really piqued my interest in marketing with his enthusiasm and his lectures are fairly absorbing. Most likely grade in this class is a B, but don't let that prevent you from taking him as a teacher.
Cole is a very good teacher. The class is not very hard at all. All powerpoints are on BB. Tests aren't bad. 80% is from PP/lectures and 20% comes from readings but i never did those and I was fine. Attendance isn't mandatory but he gives random quizes for attendance. He owns Walker Brothers so he understands the subject and provides good examples
No homework, you only need the book for studying for tests, and one major group assignment at the end of the course. Mr. Cole is a good teacher and class is enjoyable and not boring.
Good guy and he is pretty funny, but his final was near impposible if you were his student. He did not prepare you well at all.
Great Professor! Class is not mandatory, but attendance is taken randomly. This is not a hard class but on the other hand his test are more complicated than you expect.
John Cole is one of the BEST professors I have had. He's very knowledgable and always has great stories to tell that really helps you understand. Very funny and keeps us engaged. Go to class and you will do just fine.
Very knowledgeable of the material and was willing to help whenever you needed it. Assignments were clear and there wasn't any busy work. Tests weren't incredibly hard, but you do need to spend some time studying for them. Overall great teacher and I learned a lot from the class. Would definitely take him again!
John is a good teacher. He is very straight forward about what is expected of you. The tests are difficult if you are not in class taking notes but not hard if you are. The project is pretty time time consuming and annoying, but my advice is to get it over with as soon as possible because he grades the easiest for the first few. No book. Nice guy.
Tests are tough even though you've done everything he's asked to try and prepare for it.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Definitely in my top three along with Dub Ashton and Thomas Jensen. I enjoyed this class, because everything you learn can be used for life situations and not just marketing. I took this class during the summer so I'm not sure how it differs from the fall or spring. 2 tests and 1 project with a paper.
Cole is really passionate about this subject and makes his lectures interesting. No textbook purchase so you save money. There is one group project worth a chunk of your grade and the rest is 3 tests, which are cumulative. He's an awesome guy with great stories and the tests are easy if you pay attention and study a reasonable amount. I recommend!
John Cole is an A1 professor. Truly cares about students and has enthusiasm for sales. Class was always enjoyable. The project isn't that bad either.
John loves teaching. He has real sales experience that translate into his lectures. Not a class you will be bored in. MUST go to class in order to pass. He doesn't post powerpoints online. Must read book in order to do well on tests. Attendance is mandatory. A few big group projects but nothing too hard. Really just an awesome professor.
BAD - tests are annoying but manageable. Occasional in-class assignments for a lot of points, but you can skip here and there. there's a group project but its not bad. GOOD - otherwise he is a really great person and super caring and the content itself is interesting, lectures are just sooo boring.
Wow I love Prof Cole. He is wonderful. He is helpful if you ever have any questions. If you go to class and do your group projects youll succeed. There are 5 random attendance days throughout the semester (each accounting for 10 points) and so that is a big chunk of your overall grade. there is a group project but it was honestly very fun.
I took J Cole based off of the reviews I read on here. He is a nice guy and definitely knows selling/sales, but his tests were extremely difficult. Pretty disappointed with his class and him as a professor. You have to read the book to pass the tests. Pass, not excel. Wish I had had a better experience. Not a fan of the format of his class either.
John is the nicest professor ever! I really enjoyed his class, but the tests are way harder than you'd think so make sure you read the book!
Not my favorite. Test and project heavy. He rambles on and repeats lectures. Choose your group members wisely. Group evals have an important role in determining your grade. He is super passionate about the subject (maybe too much). He makes the tests way harder than they should be. No extra credit. I would not take him again!
READ. THE. BOOK. or you wont pass. Tests are really hard and he does grade group projects easy but the discussion boards he grades hard.
Phenomenal instructor. He's a business owner so he's very familiar with the real world and often incorporates it into lectures. He picks 5 random days to do attendance throughout semester and if you miss the majority of them, you flunk. Exams are moderately difficult (you need to study hard). Great guy. Really wants to help you with career pursuit.
One of the best professors I've had in college so far. His classes are tough, but he really cares about his students and incorporates real life business aspects into his lectures.
John Cole is the best professor I have had at the UofA. I never read the textbook and received a B in the class. Group projects play a huge part in your grade and he does 5 random attendance days. I know I would have made an A if I actually purchased the textbook. He's very passionate about what he teaches. TAKE THIS COURSE
Professor Cole is a great teacher! He is lecture heavy but if you show up to class, he gives you mainly what you need to know for tests. Choose your group wisely though because the group projects are a big part of your grade in addition to the tests! He really cares and wants you to succeed so I recommend taking him.
John Cole is great. He really knows a lot about sales and cares about his students. You need to go to class and read the textbook for the test because almost all of the questions come from the text. Test are hard. I enjoyed this class but he makes it pretty tough to get an A.
John Cole is an outstanding professor and hands down, the best salesperson I have ever met. I'm a real estate agent and sell dozens of homes a year yet I learned so much from his class. I HIGHLY recommend his class if you truly wish to learn sells. However, he is a tough grader. DO NOT underestimate his grading rubric. Choose your groups wisely.
John Cole is one of the best teachers I've ever had!! He truly cares about his student's success after college. As a senior wanting to go into the sales field I learned so much in this class and loved every minute of it
John Cole is one of my favorite professors. He cares about his students and he truly wants to help students be great at selling and sales. He is very friendly and easy to follow in his lectures. The tests are difficult though so don't try to just study the night before and follow the rubric closely for group projects.
Nice guy. Everyone loved him it seemed. I have no interest in sales, so I didn't enjoy the class as much as others. The two tests are big and hard. The presentation and role play arent bad, but stressful. Yes, read the book.
Just dont do it... you'll thank me later.
He is a good guy but this class is hard. The tests are extremely difficult with a lot of conceptual questions. If you don't have to take this class, then don't. There are easier marketing electives that I wish I would have taken.
John is a highly respected professor in the Walton College. He cares a lot about his students and brings in tons of guest speakers to talk about sales in the real world. Taking his class is a great opportunity you should not miss.
This class was very interesting and I learned a lot. He makes you work for your grade but is there if you need help with anything. The group projects seem like a lot but aren't if you have a good group. The tests are hard but make sure you read the book and take notes. He gives random in class assignments that can make or break your grade.
Zero feedback for final or midterm projects, just a grade. Most of the course was web based, course materials expensive, used poor examples and encouraged ethically ambiguous behavior at best. Do not take this class if you want an involved professor who gives feedback on projects or justifications for grades.
Professor Cole was wonderful! I really enjoyed this class and even though it was online I felt like I learned more than even an in-person class. If you read the book you'll pass with flying colors. The group projects aren't bad at all, just make sure you have a good group. I loved mine! I can't say enough great things about this class. Take him!
John Cole is by far the best professor I've ever had. MKTG 4343 is a challenging class but if you are interested in Sales, TAKE IT. He has taught me so much and truly cares about each individual student. If you get the chance to participate in the Walton Sales Competition, DO IT. It was a great experience and a huge extra credit opportunity.
John Cole really cares about his students. The tests are more difficult than they need to be, I never made an A on either of the two. Only two tests and two group projects that require a decent amount of effort. The tests are a lot of material and you have to take good notes and read the textbook to pass the tests. Learned a lot about sales!
Best professor I've ever had! If you're interested in sales he'll teach you everything you need to know. Lectures are extremely engaging and I genuinely want to go. He goes above and beyond and will help you with your career. Extremely networked man. Take this class even if you aren't interested in sales. You will learn a ton on business formats.
I mean he's ok but a lot of your grade is from group projects and then there are two tests which are 75 questions each and a lot of the questions are worded strange. If you aren't required to take it don't do it.
