Lecture are long and boring but occasionally he will play simpsons clips and other funny things. He also talks about current events at the beginning of class which is nice. He is pretty clear in lecture (if you're awake). Tests are kinda tough...READ!!
Very Boring!! It's hard to get through his power lectures without sleeping, and the TA's are really bad. The test's were okay, but you have to read!
He is a good lecturer and gives you outlines of his notes, but very boring to listen to. The tests are tough...I read every chapter, article, etc and still had a rough time.
He can be very boring to listen to, but Is a really funny guy and always slips a twist into his powe lectures. The tests arent bad if you pay attention in class... almost everything is from the lecture notes.
Great professor.
His class is easy to follow and entertaining. The tests aren't too bad if you pay attention in lecture and do the reading. Also, he presents politcal views in an unbiased manner, and doesn't preach to his students.
He's an awesome guy, and makes class interesting
I loved this class, Coleman was great! I was a little intimidated by what people were saying about the tests, but if you pay close attention in lecture and take decent notes you're going to be okay. He is sometimes a dry lecturer but listen for his humor - he can be hilarious if you're listening!
He is so boring. Like painfully boring. By the way anyone who thinks he is funny is just wrong.
The tests are really hard. Try and take this class with someone else. I had hopes of this being my favorite class and it is not.
Coleman is Great. His tests are tough though, but studying will get you an AB. What I really like is he presents politics in a humorous, unbiased, and very informative way. I thought readings were interesting. I recommend Coleman.
I loved this class! Professor Coleman is a great teacher, you learn a ton and I usually thought lecture was intersting. He is just so funny. It is pretty hard but if you do the work you can do pretty well. Not an easy A though.
While sometimes lecture can get a little tedious, Coleman is a quirky little fellow who likes to add a little humor to class--and that makes the lecture less dry and much more interesting. He's at his best when he adds a movie or a clip to class.
He is really funny and made the power lectures go by quickly by showing funny clips from "The Simpsons" relevant to the class. He is very knowledgeable and seems interested in getting his students to learn.
If you can get real solid lecture notes, and study them for a few hours before the test you can get an A/B. Great professor, loves the Red Sox.
Good Class...lectures get boring at times, but overall he is a very good teacher. Everything in lecture is from the book.
Coleman is a great professor. Anyone is lucky to get him. He has power point slides along with a detailed explanation of all of the main points. He doesn't rush through material and would rather cut it short than cram a lot of information in.
He was a great professor. His lectures were well prepared, and he always made it interesting and fun. His tests were hard, but it's a class worth taking.
Professor Coleman is hilarious. The subject matter is pretty dry, but he always adds in a ten minute or so diversion to help the class go by faster. The TA's sucked. DO THE READING.
Although the American Government system is not the most interesting subject, he makes the class very interesting. Power Point lectures are easy to follow, and Simpson's cartoon clips make power lectures bearable. The book is also easy to understand. Definitely recommend him for this class.
tests are straight forward. if you study and understand the information, you'll do well. lectures are a little boring, but he usually does at least one goofy thing each class. definitely recommend him.
Coleman is a very good lecturer. He is well prepared, a smooth speaker, and makes everything very clear. He is good at incorporating video clips as examples and this helps the long lectures go quicker. Tests were what I expected, not too bad. He also likes to do something goofy each lecture.
Great prof., funny. Lectures are clear and interesting. Tests are challenging. They are fair though. Nice dresser!
Coleman is a great teacher, he does something fun every class, like last week he threw out some candy, he gives you off of class if his Boston Red Sox with the World Series also, the tests are straight forwards if you put some effort in you should do fine.
He kept class exciting by doing funny things everyday. As long as you talk good notes you will learn a lot and do well on the tests. I highly suggest taking his class.
real awesome and funny guy. he makes the lectures interesting. the tests are pretty straightforward taken mostly from lecture and a few questions from the books. overall, not that hard for a 4 credit class.
This was the first class I ever fell asleep in. The man may know his stuff and love Political Science but generally lectures are long and dull. I've been to about 4 all year and have an AB average in the class. If you got to discussion and read the material, don't torture yourself with the lecture, especially if you've done any poli sci before.
A fabulous professor! The tests are somewhat challenging but not bad if you take good notes. He does something funny every class- we watched a 1/2 episode of the Simpsons one day and and another we all made paper airplanes and threw them in the lecture hall of 300+ while he video taped us. Very funny. I learned a lot!
I really enjoyed this class. Prof. Coleman makes a dry topic interesting and tolerable. He always brings a joke and starts off class on a light note. I learned a lot! I recommend you taking his class. YOU NEED TO GO TO LECTURE!!!! The tests are basically off his lecture, so you should take good notes. The tests are challenging, but not impossible.
i like the guy, but it was hard. especially if you don't know much about poli sci to begin with. i thought the exams were kind of torture and even if i had spent days straight studying, i wouldn't have done any better. but coleman is a great guy.
Amazing professor. Sometimes the information gets a little dull, but that's political science for you. He is very passionate about the subject and knows what he is talking about. It was fun learning from him. His tests are REALLY easy. There are maybe two or three tricky questions on each test. I'm a science major and getting an A was easy.
I agree with most of the other comments. Studying more probably won't do you much good. Just go to lectures, listen, enjoy it, and then study your lecture notes. All in all he's a great guy, very intelligent, and he keeps class moving.
He sparked my interest to go into the political science department.
Professor Coleman is a great lecture-style teacher. He throws funny stories and adds in movie clips to keep his power lectures interesting, because after all, political science can be pretty boring. The tests are based almost 80% on lecture, so if you show up and take notes, they shouldn't be a problem
I love Coleman, he presents his lectures very clearly, and very easy to understand. He always lightens the mood of the power lectures by telling funny anecdotes or showing movie clips. I highly recommend taking a class from him
I think he is really funny, and I also enjoy his weekend updates and stories. I guess he's a little random though.
Very good prof, intelligent. Funny, keeps class interesting with stories, jokes, and video clips. Tests are easy and mostly lecture based. Just review lecture notes and skim readings to study.
Coleman is the man! He makes boring material really interesting and he apparently is very distinguished. He wrote the textbooks you read and he is always on the radio (he lets you listen). Overall, this class is not easy, but Coleman alone makes it worth taking. Graduating without sitting through a Coleman lecture is a waste of 4 years.
go to class and study your lecture notes, then just write down the vocab from the text and get the main points from the readings. you dont have to read all thats on the syllabus. easy to get an a
Very interesting class. Coleman presents the material well and usually has a funny "weekend" story. Study your lecture notes and the E.D. readings and you should do well in this class. Also, do any and all extra credit he offers. He is willing to help his students out if he recognizes that you try very hard (let me turn in EC I forgot in dorm)
Coleman is a good professor, so if you are interested in taking a class that he is teaching, take it. The class was challenging, but nothing impossible if you go to lecture and pay attention. Liked class a lot.
Enthusiastic about political science. Wasn't that interested before this class, but he makes it as interesting as possible. Powerpoint lectures are sometimes hard to keep up on. Funny videos and emails. 2 big essays and 3 pretty easy tests (30% 30%, lowest counts as 15%)
I thought i liked him at the start of the semester, but it started to change. Coleman is a good professor if ur into politics and want to change the world, doing BS for some stupid political campaign. If ur not that into poli sci-and just did good in gov in High school dont take it, i got a C, too much reading, and its not fun
I love Professor Coleman! He helped sparked my interest in politics, and I might major in poli. sci. now. He explains things so well and will tell great stories. Take a class with him if you can.
Prof Coleman was a good lecturer, always trying keep the power lecture alive (and awake) by punctuating his notes with witty remarks. He seems to fancy himself something of a comedian as he'll occasionally start a lecture with a stand-up-esque recount of his weekend. The papers are pretty straight forward, but you NEED to read the text to do well.
Hilarious professor, keeps the material interesting for the most part. All power lectures can become too long after a while and this is no exception, but great class and awesome professor. Fairly Easy as long as you study your notes and briefly lookover the book for vocab. Take the class!
Great teacher great class. Go to lecture and read the enduring debate articles. The material is really straight foward and not difficlut. I really enjoyed this class. (again- dont miss lecture)
Made the class interesting
One of the best classes I have taken. Prof. Coleman is the best professor I have had in college
very good professor. lecture attendance is a must!
Lectures are not mandatory (if you know someone else in the class) otherwise its a pretty good idea to go to class. Assignments are really easy, but you got to study and do the reading. Material is far from boring, but if you want a good grades on the tests, take notes on text and study more than the day before.
Prof Coleman is a nice guy and a decent lecturer. He tried too hard to "spice things up," though. He tended to spend the first ten minutes of class talking about worthless things, but after that he was on topic and intelligent; he obviously knows what he's talking about. DEFINITELY go to class.
The material is really easy, and going to lecture is a must as most of the questions come from lecture notes with a few from the readings. The tests are incredibly easy, no need to study more than a day or two before the test. Pretty funny guy, makes the class interesting
Coleman is a great lecturer, although he has a tendency to overexplain some concepts. Exams are manageable, but you should study more than one or two days before hand (unless you review your notes daily), otherwise you may miss something on the exam. Do the readings, but Coleman mostly asks for vocabulary terms.Go to lecture,it's most of the exam.
Easy class, and interesting. Coleman is a good lecturer, and he makes an effort to keep the class fun. Tests are easy and almost entirely based on lecture material, so go to class. The reading is unnecessary- just look over the chapter terms and you'll be good. Overall a decent class, if not extremely intellectually stimulating.
Really nice guy, however lectures got a little long. Tests aren't too bad if you study, otherwise they're pretty hard. Almost completely pulled from lecture notes, just have to know the vocab words and main ideas from the textbook.
Coleman is the best prof I've had. Lectures are stimulating as he keeps the info interesting. You don't really need to reed because almost everything from the exams comes from lecture. Lecture attendance is a must, however. Take Coleman if you get the chance!
Professor Coleman is very knowledgeable and makes lectures interesting. Tests aren't hard as long as you pay attention in lecture and do the readings. I would definitely recommend him!
Coleman is a good professor but he teaches one of the most boring classes. It is almost impossible to pay attention the whole time. Reading are dry and TA's will screw you over on the paper. Only take this class if you need to. It's not a hard class but it isn't an easy one either.
Professor Coleman is very intelligent, but for a 100 level intro class, this is a difficult course. There are only 3 exams and 2 papers, but exams count for 75% of your grade.
This class was interesting, but it definitely felt a little long sometimes. An hour and fifteen felt too long for me. Prof Coleman is a good, clear lecturer. But the problem for me with this class was that there were no real due dates for the readings so I never read them and if I did, they were very dense. It is not an easy, nor is it hard.
Professor Coleman is a great lecturer. Very clear and straight forward. Powerpoints are a little dry at times. If you read the book and attend lecture, you're guarnteed a B
Funny enough to keep me awake during class.
Great Lecturer. He made the subject clear and easy to understand. He brings in useful outside information. You can tell he has strong opinions, but usually he teaches without a major bias.
Fairly entertaining. Easy class.
Professor Coleman is a good guy, but the power lectures for this class are extremely tedious and most of the topics covered in class were things that I learned in high school. Easy A if you have any knowledge of the US political system/ US History.
Extremely entertaining professor. Lectures are easy to comprehend, and Professor Coleman is very helpful. Best professor I have had in college.
Good lecturer. Attend lecture and take good notes and you should be fine.
Read the Material, attend all the lectures, and this is a great course. The lectures are quite enjoyable, so it shouldn't be a pain to attend.
Excellent professor. He made the power lecture entertaining and simply wants all of his students to succeed. He's just a great guy in general. If you go to lecture and do the readings, it's an easy A.
Professor Coleman is a great professor. There are 3 exams which are moderately difficult. However, if you take good lecture notes (I suggest using a computer to keep-up with him) and read the assigned reading the tests are quite easy. The paper that is graded by the TA is graded hard- but if you spend time on it you can earn a good grade.
Coleman is a great professor. He is extremely knowledgeable in politics. His lectures are straight forward. He is a funny guy. Tests are multiple choice and easy. One paper. Amount of out of class work is determined by TA
Professor Coleman is awesome and pretty laid back. He's funny and nice, he even gave our class candy after each exam. Coleman made this class easy to understand and presented material in a clear way.
Great professor! Applies the material well. Fun and laid back with a good sense of humor. Pretty easy class.
Coleman is a excellent, funny professor. He is clear and and consistent with the book he uses. Besides the textbook, there is a small amount of outside reading that you may or may not use depending on your TA. Also, he is not biased whatsoever.
Professor Coleman is the ideal professor. He has a sense of humor, yet still takes class seriously. He strives for his students to understand politics, rather than just memorize facts. TAs determine the amount of outside work. Exams are relatively easy if you go to lecture. If you are at all interested in American politics, take this class!
Seemed like a great guy. Very helpful. Dry sense of humor.
Coleman is a great guy and is extremely knowledgable about political science, but unfortunately the lectures for 424 were EXTREMELY slow and quite boring. Easy to earn an AB if you attend lecture and do the readings. In class midterm, research paper, and take home final.
Coleman is one of the best professors I've ever had. Clear, concise, incredibly nice, fair grader. Take this course if you get the opportunity -- he's so knowledgeable and a great teacher!
Amazing professor!!! Knows his stuff and articulates it very clearly. He's got a great sense of humor.
Coleman is super smart, well-spoken, and un-biased. He coordinates well with the text book (he co-wrote it, too), and his tests were all multiple choice and pretty easy! We had 3 tests including the final and one paper. He put all his lectures online so you don't have to go to class if you don't want to.
Prof. Coleman is great! He teaches PoliSci without bias (which is a major accomplishment) and really wants students to understand the material. If you've ever had an American Govt. class before you will find this class to be a breeze. Unfortunately Prof. Coleman is leaving UW at the end of this semester so you be able to take this class with him.
A very good instructor. He does his best to make the topic of American politics and government interesting. Read the book. It'll help tremendously and go to lecture. His lectures are easy to understand; plus he records his lecture which is very relevant if you do have to miss class. Exams are based on lectures and the textbook.
I very much appreciated his organization, structure, and easygoing attitude. He clearly cares about the understanding of the students, and worked to ensure that his lectures were unbiased, informative, and interesting.
