Hard but great, if youre taking the class to learn, Dr.Conrad is your guy... i might get a B in the class, but i will be more proud of a B from his class than an A in any others....
Dr. Conrad is extremely passionate about Chemistry. Although he is brilliant, he realizes that this is an entry level chem course and really takes the time to explain the lab thoroughly before each class. If you don't come to class with some preparation however, he probably won't be very impressed with you.
Dr. Conrad is an excellent teacher. He wants his students to understand the material and does a great job of helping them. He is slightly nerdy, but also really cool at the same time. As long as you go to class and do what is asked of you, there's no reason you shouldn't get a good grade.
He is a super nice guy and very willing to help with any questions you may have. There is a quiz every friday but generally they are very easy. He offers 20 extra credit points. The class is not really that hard as long as you study, he generally repeats the very important things and is straightforward with what is on the test. Gives study guides.
I looked forward to his lectures. They were informative and interesting. He puts a lot of effort into helping you understand the material.
Dr. Conrad is a great teacher. He made learning the content easy and engaging and would help you whenever you needed it. I highly recommend him for anyone taking CHEM 1180!
Great Class! Very Very Intelligent Man. He will stop the whole discussion to help a single individual understand the concept of what's being taught.
Dr. Conrad is a great professor! He really knows what he's teaching and is obviously passionate about his job. He is always there to help anyone who needs it. I highly recommend!
Take him! He tells you exactly what is going to be on the test, so there is no guessing. He paces the class well and really wants all his students to get good grades. He was great!!!!!
Hands down, the best teacher I had at UNO. He is very passionate about chemistry and genuinely wants his students to really understand the material. I went in to his class not liking chemistry, and after the semester it was my favorite subject. Take his class whenever you can!
Dr. Conrad was great! His tests are hard but if you pay attention and study you will do fine. He has the homework and quizzes online. Work on them ahead of time you will be fine. I think he was hilarious and very cute. (I called him Silver Fox.) Take this class!
His lectures are very good. He is easy to understand and is upfront on what tests are like. He's funny and make class interesting. Very nice guy. Not overly helpful if you go in during office hours, though.
He is awesome! for the students who are chemistry majors he tries and make this class as fun and clear as possible! He is too nice, once he dropped a subject on the exam bc a students found it difficult. His exams are seriously what you go over in lecture. He's all about history! You will know what scientist did what and in what year. I recommend!
He really is one of the best chemistry professors I've had at uno. I was terrified going into his class but he really does want you to do well and does a really great job of making you understand the material. I wish all of the chemistry department was more like him.
Attend lectures and write down everything he says. Don't bother with the book- it is too long and he only tests off his lectures. First 3 tests are easy so don't loose points there! Last 2 tests and final are more comprehensive pathways. More tests divides material and makes it easier not harder. Don't ever miss class! Best teacher in Chemistry!
The book for this class is very detailed and not really appropriate for the class. Dr. Conrad is a good lecturer and makes his expectations clear. There are 5 tests plus a comprehensive final and several quizzes. Tests are weird, very open-ended questions. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot. I would recommend Dr. Conrad to others.
Dr. Conrad is an amazing teacher. He's engaging & entertaining but most importantly he has an ability to make it all make sense! Test are tough; go to class-participate, take notes, study. Expectations are clear. With his infectious enthusiasm for the subject you may even end up loving chemistry. I will absolutely take another class with him!
There wasn't any actual assigned reading, but he does offer bonus reading quizzes that can boost up your grade. There were quizzes every week but he made sure to really go over the material with the class. Attendance was not necessary but I would highly recommend going, he explains the material really well. Book was online.
He does a great job of explaining everything and there are no surprises. Bonus reading quizzes at the start of every week & usually a quiz at the end of the week. Tests are tough but relevant & he posts past tests so it's easy to study. Take good notes & study, you'll do great. I used to hate chemistry but he made class fun! Textbook's free online!
Dr. Conrad is one of great professors I have ever had. The material can be challenging, but he does a great job explaining it. He has very clear expectations for what will be on his quizzes and tests. He also provides a lot of supplementary material you can use to study. His excitement about chemistry is infectious.
Dr. Conrad was an amazing teacher. I loved his style of teaching and how he seriously love what he was teaching. It was really cool to see someone care so much about what they do. Also he gives out previous tests (use them!) to study off of and gives bonus quizzes based on reading from the book. Weekly graded quizzes and online homework also.
Late grading. Makes mistakes on calculating your points. Wants essay tests. No multiply choices. Almost is not available for out-of class consultations. Not supportive especially for nonnative speakers. Recommendation: take this class in other location.
Not inspirational
He has lack of teaching experience. To know the subject does not necessarily mean you can be an instructor.
Dr. Conrad's passion for the subject is contagious! Energetic, compassionate, and caring, he empathizes the difficulty of the material involved. It is not an easy class/subject, but he makes it easier to learn (and even a little fun if you are a nerd like me). He also teaches Biochem, which I hope I can take with him. Awesome instructor!
If you attend his lectures you'll understand the material on tests, quizzes, or homework. He's always around to ask a question. He's the most animated college professor I know. He does his job very well
His tests are ESSAY-type test. Most of the questions he does not cover during his lectures.
NO MAKE-UP TESTS, QUIZZES. Most answers for the test you should infer from his lectures. It is hard!
I would take this class again The class is hard but it is a 4000 level class so what do you expect? I think he is a great professor, he is very passionate about what he does. Exam questions come from lectures. If you are not planning on going to class do not expect anything above a C. If you are planning on going, getting an A is not impossible.
He gives extra credit, but later he will deduct every possible points out of your tests and quizzes. He pretends to be helpful, but in reality he does not care! His tests are far beyond what he teaches in his lectures. Go to another places for biochem.
He can't help you if you ask. If you ask questions do not expect to get a straight answer. He does not like when majority of his class get A grade. His tests are picky ones.
I took Dr. Conrad for CHEM 1180, and he is awesome!! He takes notes with you, so it's easy to keep up with the flow of the class. Go to class and you will be golden. Very dry, but hilarious sense of humor. I recommend him to everyone!
Picky Professor. Not inspirational. If the whole class is doing worse than he expected there is a chance of extra credit questions. But the extra credit points are little of value and they will not make any essential changes.
If it is not too late, change your mind!
AMAZING!!! He cares so much about the topic and wants everyone to do well. If you attend the lectures and do the weekly online assignment, the class is a piece of cake. I would say I spent only about an hour a week studying because he teaches it so that you can remember it and makes it easy to boost your grade.
After 4 years at UNO, Dr. Conrad is the best professor I've ever had. I hate chemistry, but this was the least stressful class I have ever taken. Dr. Conrad makes subjects that are usually very difficult easy to comprehend. He makes it extremely clear what is going to be on the quizzes and tests. Go to class, take notes, study, you'll get an A.
He gives you study tips and practice problems to get you through the class. If you do not read and do your homework you will not do well, but that is because of the difficult nature of chemistry. He will try his best to help, but if you do not put in work, you will not do well. You just have to actually try. He gives great notes and practice exams.
Dr. Conrad is the best chemistry teacher at UNO. He is legitimately invested in making sure that you lear the material. That is, if you put in the effort to stay involved in class he will make sure you learn. The tests are over 100% of the material he teaches, so pay attention in class and they will be easy.
He is the best
Dr. Conrad makes this course easier and understanding in general chemistry if you do the work. He wants you to be successful and prepared for Chem 1184 and you will earn the grade if you study, do the homework and clicker points. He is very caring, passionate about chemistry and is always there if you need help.
Conrad is hands down one of the best professors I've had at UNO. He genuinely loves what he does and makes chemistry understandable; before this class I hated chemistry. Instead of online Sapling homework we do problem sets which are very helpful and he holds review sessions before tests. Amazing prof!
One of the best professors to take chemistry with! Although he speeds through his lectures like no other but overall he's a great professor.
Great at presenting lecture material, and making sure you understand it. Super clear about expectations.
Dr. Conrad is the best professor I had in all of my college career. I had him for both general and biochemistry. He was an incredible lecturer, and though his tests were challenging, they forced you to understand rather than just memorize facts. Anyone who says he doesn't care or doesn't know what he's talking about didn't want to put in the work.
Dr. Conrad changed the way I thought about school. He made chemistry actually fun to learn, he is energetic and very caring about his students. You can tell that he really wants you to pass, thus he does not give out the standardized test for the final like the other professors do. For once, I didn't dread chemistry because of him. Highly recommend
Conrad is great professor and gives great and entertaining lectures. He has many study sessions (with his TA) and lots of office hours as well. His tests and quizzes are great and are very straight forward.
Conrad is an excellent professor! His class is tough but if you study and prepare for the exams you will do fine. He gives you practice exams and worksheets to study off of and every week there is a quiz. I would not skip class and I would study at least an hour a day.
Dr. Conrad is an amazing professor when it comes to caring about his students. He truly takes the time to teach the material to ensure that the majority of the class understands what is going on. Some of the material can be abstract, but that is the simple nature of the intro chemistry class and Dr. Conrad does a great job at lecturing it!
Dr. Conrad definitely made Gen Chem 1 easier to understand. He cares about his students, is enthusiastic, and truly wants you to pass with a good grade. He is available during his office hours and is very helpful with any concerns regarding the class material. Exams are doable as long as you take the time to study and focus during lecture.
Dr. Conrad is a great example of what a college professor should be! Instead of being lazy and using PowerPoint, he writes all of his lectures on the board and works through problems in class. He also writes all of his own homework, quizzes, and tests, including the final. Put in the time and work and youll get a good grade.
Conrad is by far my favorite professor that I've had so far. He gives lectures that reflect exactly what will be on quizzes and exams, and he truly cares about his students. He is so passionate about chemistry which makes the class more fun to take. Take good notes and study outside of class. You can't get a grade worse than you get on the final.
Overall amazing teacher, his enthusiasm in the classroom grew my interest in chemistry substantially
As I called him all semester, John "the GOAT" Conrad, is literally the best. He is so funny and literally will answer anyone's questions and will be amazing about it. One person didn't know how to round and he taught the person without hesitation. If you have taken chemistry in high school or AP Chemistry, you don't need to show up at all.
He's AMAZING. One of the best teachers I've ever had. All his tests are based on his lectures, and he makes his lectures so much fun and funny. He's super caring and really tries to make everyone understand the content.
Great professor. Easy to learn and study. Just go to class and study the night before and youll do fine with how well the information is provided.
Dr. Conrad is one of my favorite professors so far. He writes his own tests and doesn't include anything on them that he doesn't cover in class. He moves at a fast pace in class but always starts with a little review of where we had left off. He explains things simply and really prepared me for Chem1190. DONT buy a textbook.
Attendance wan't always mandatory but he did have occasional in-class assignments you wouldn't want to miss. He was delightful during lecture and his passion about the subject was contagious.
My thing about Conrad is that he expects you to infer a LOT of material without assigned readings or practice problems that are similar to his tests or quizzes and he will fully deduct you points. He is inconsistent. His teaching is also for a very specific kind of person. If you have ADHD or any other impairment you're learning is limited.
Dr. Conrad is a great professor. You can tell that he really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He is clear with his lectures, his expectations, and his grading. He is pretty thorough with his lectures, and usually brings a lot of energy to the classroom. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you learn a lot more if you go to class.
He's a very kind professor and made the material very accessible. He is a very straightforward grader, but his tests aren't too bad. Honestly a solid chemistry teacher and I recommend taking him if given the chance.
Breaks down a difficult subject into bite size pieces. Remote class is 3 50 minute zoom sessions. He is interactive online. Fair grading. Tests are average in complexity.
Very enthusiastic. Chemistry was my favorite class because of how well he explains things. Reviews before exams, and exams are open notes. Makes chemistry easily understandable and hard to hate. His notes are very clear, and they tell you exactly what you need to know without any fluff. I hope I can take another class with him.
He really is great. Everything is explained thoroughly. The only issue is when students keep asking questions. If you listen and be patient he explains everything perfectly and you are never confused. He puts every aspect into relation of everyday life. There are a lot of quizzes, so your grade doesnt change when you bomb one. Great teacher.
Dr. Conrad is very excited during his lectures. You can tell he genuinely cares about chemistry. He is very good at answering questions and tries to encourage participation.
I hadn't taken chemistry since sophomore year in high school and he made it super easy to learn it all again. Don't let his score scare you, he is super easy to get into contact with if you need any help and he just wants everyone to succeed. You also don't necessarily need to be at lecture but it made it easier to learn everything!
Im currently in medical school and am studying for boards. I took Dr. Conrads Biochemistry course 4 years ago. I still remember things he taught me. He teaches what is relevant and makes sure you actually understand the material. Would highly recommend him for clinical relevance and professional school prep.
Where do I start? Dr. Conrad is a gem amongst Chem professors. He truly cares about his students and wants them to pass AND learn. He doesn't give extra credit but he takes off a TON of low scores. The class is well structured and follows the syllabus. If you have to take CHEM 1180 do yourself a favor and take it with Conrad, you will succeed.
I had this lecture in the middle of COVID and the lecture was completely on zoom. He did a good job with the class lecture, answered all questions, and was nice to students. Participation in class is greatly appreciated by him to get on his good side.
Fantastic professor! Definitely one of the best I have had at UNO. He is very knowledgeable and extremely helpful! He is very understand for different circumstances and easily accessible outside of class.
Dr. Conrad is an absolutely amazing professor; his lectures are fantastic and he makes sure to explain concepts very clearly before moving on. He makes himself available outside of class for any questions and is very upfront about the content that will be on exams. There are no surprises, so as long as you keep up on the work you'll do very well.
Dr. Conrad is an incredibly understanding professor and you can tell more than anything he cares about the success of his students. He always makes himself available for questions and seems genuinely passionate about the topics he is teaching. His positivity makes it more fun to attend class.
He was often ill-prepared for lecture. If he was behind schedule, he would cram everything into a couple days before the exam. Not having a textbook for the class was frustrating because his handwritten notes on the whiteboard were incomprehensible.
This prof does his part making the material easy to understand. He's caring and very fair. Weekly quizzes and some group work which are actually really helpful. Tests are over lecture material, and no trick questions. He's always willing to answer questions and makes himself accessible outside of class. Easily the best professor I've taken.
Summer Chem I. Fantastic lecturer. He cares a lot and shows it. Offers extra credit. Likes participation in lecture. Provides study materials for exams that make it super easy! Great guy.
Took him over the summer. Such a good lecturer, it's clear that he's extremely knowledgeable and passionate about chemistry. Honestly, if you just show up and pay attention you should have no problem in the class. He's very clear about what's going to be on the test and offers super easy extra credit. Take him if you need to do gen chem!
Amazing professor. Took him over the summer. Lectures were engaging with daily practice problems that were assigned to help the student and also built up as extra credit. Dr. Conrad is both funny and knowledgable about the subject. I walked out of class being a lot more interested in chemistry. Definitely recommend him for 1180.
Dr. Conrad is amazing. Pay attention in class, take notes, do his practice problems and an A is very attainable. He explains everything very well and made gen Chem 1 easy.
Dr. Conrad is great, and if you're newer to chemistry and can get him for gen chem 1, would highly recommend. He gives very little homework, and the majority of your grade will come from 4 tests and the final. As long as you prepare using the resources he provides, it's not hard to get a good grade. He also allows 1 retake of any test.
Lab w/ Conrad is great, he's chill, he grades very nicely, and he's very helpful during lab periods. Overall, he's just a great guy and I'd 100% take him for lab.
I LOVE CONRAD! There is a quiz every Friday which sounds bad, but it made me study every week and really prepared me for the exams. He has sooooo many practice problems on canvas that relate directly to the exam. There's no book, and he teaches from a white board with no online notes, so you have to show up to class.
Best professor, quiz every week but they are quick. He drops the lowest quiz grades and allows 1 retake of any 4 exam a week before finals. Everything in the quizzes and exams comes straight from his lectures so you will not be caught off guard because they are fresh and not repeats. He writes in whiteboard so you have to attend class to get notes.
The best chemistry professor that I have taken at UNO. He has lots of energy to keep you engaged in his lectures. The tests can be tough but the review sessions that he offers are really helpful. There is a lot of information but he is very good at not making it feel like too much.
IF YOU WANT AN EASY A+ GET MR.CONRAD he makes everything so simple and gives alot of bonus points. he actually cares and if you show up you will understand everything P.S he tells alot of jokes
Professor Conrad was the best professor I have had in my first semester of classes. He is a very caring teacher who really wants to ensure that students understand the material. I would recommend this professor and his class to anyone that needs to take a science credit.
Really easy class, attendance not mandatory, but give EC if you show up. Tests are like lectures. Only downfall, quiz every Friday.
He is a GREAT intro chem professor. He clearly wants all students to succeed in the course and makes it relatively easy to do so. Weekly group work that gets you bonus points on quizzes. No notes posted online, so attending class is your best chance at success, along with plenty of practice material that is posted.
he is the goat. literally such a good professor, very caring, and genuinely wants his students to succeed. very accessible, super laid-back, and funny. i genuinely think he is one of the best chemistry professors at UNO. if you can take him, DO IT!!!!
Dr. Conrad is absolutely fantastic. His class is incredibly easy to pass if you just try. He has the single most forgiving grading system I have ever seen in my entire life, and he is really, really funny. He has an insane amount of practice material. Please take Dr. Conrad, he's genuinely awesome. I cannot recommend him enough.
Probably the best professor in the Chemistry department by far!! Funny, personable guy which makes the class so much more bearable. 4 exams plus a final that can replace the lowest grade. 10 weekly quizzes on Friday, but he is lenient with quiz grades. Would highly recommend Conrad!!
