Very good instructor.....Good role model in the GLBT community
Good personality, lots and lots of reading and the course is not student oriented.
Awesome class!
Do the reading and you'll be fine
Very interesting course. Makes you really thnik when it comes to writing.Great teacher. Do the readings and go to lectures and you will get an A.
Great!
Great guy! Very, very, very hot! Go to class, do the reading and you'll do great. A wealth of knowledge and remarkable ability to explain difficult, abstract concepts in easy, understandable terms.
Great teacher, very knowledgeable. Excellent rapport with students. Read the material and study for the tests and you can get a good grade. This guy has a great sense of humor, too.
A wonderful teacher. Reading assignments are well chosen, and lecture/discussions are thought provoking.
very good professor, probably the best in the school. you just have to do his writings like he wants--one argument one thesis kinda deal. he tends to grade papers like an english professor. other than that he is very very interesting.
One amazingly smart and funny person. He tries his best to make the class interesting and is one of the only teachers that is successful. I asked him a lot of tough/ convoluted questions in class and he answered all of them dead on. He shows respect to every student and his exams are pretty easy.
very good teacher, very funny. lectures are very thought provoking. exams are easy only if u study and read the material. Take Mark as TA if possible.
This man's extreme attractiveness matches his intelligence. I'd attend his classes even if I wasn't registered! Pure stimulation! (intellectually speaking, of course;))
Best PHI teacher at WSU, class is very easy if you do the readings, which is about 8 pages a day.
He's an amazing teacher, extremley intelligent, and hot as hell. He's also gay, so ladies don't make the mistake of drooling over him for like 10 weeks and then realizing that you are definitley, in every way shape or form, not his type.
He is an amazing professor. He can make something as boring as philosophy interesting. Although he is gay, he is good eye candy for a 9:30 class
Good professor. DO NOT TAKE MARK AS A TA. HE SEEMS NICE, BUT TRUST ME IT'S LIKE HE DOESN'T WANT STUDENTS TO DO WELL. HE CAN'T TEACH.
He is alright, but his Gay side comes out in class once in a while. Not the best grader in the world...system sort of sucks. Pretty easy A
Awesome professor. Topics are very interesting and the 2 hour class flies by in about 10 minutes. I would attend his classes just for enjoyment. He grades a bit hard but he can turn a bad writer into a writer that would amaze english professors. The readings were very interestingand well picked.
Good professor. Corvino is accessable and to the point. He makes the Univeristy make a packet for him so we can save money not buying a text book. Reading is manageable. Multiple choice is tough, but pay attention to his lectures, and you can't get less than a B. Try and get Evan as your TA. He is great!
John is very nice to look at everyday, too bad he's Gay. He is super smart and encourages group discussion. He is a tough grader but he spells out exactly what he wants in class. If you like to skip class this he is not for you. His tests are based on lectures.
Good prof, clear and precise in his lectures. Tests are incredibly easy, his study guides lay everything out for you to know. Quizes are easy as long as you are concise.
Although his lectures were okay, I thought that he was a bit biased in his grading, if not arbitrary. I also thought he invested more in his grad students than his undergrads, and that his feedback was often not very constructive.
he's an awesome professor very knowledgeable. good looking, smart, and a sense of humor. Very impressive individual. He reminds me of Will from "Will and Grace." he should become an acter instead. but until then he's a great asset to wayne state. take him if u want to be inspired and taught.
Charismatic, knowledgeable professor. Very helpful. Makes the subject matter interesting. Expectations are laid out in front of you.
This guy is awesome. One of the best teachers I have had so far. Learned a great deal in his class (for once). His T.A's was awesome and they were very clear on what they wanted for tests/quizzes. Take him if you need a PHI credit.
Best teacher I've ever had. He doesn't mind helping in office hours. Take advantage. You must show an interest 2 get good grade. Hard class, but he makes it better. Do all reading/hw, make sure he and TAs know your name by grade time.
Interesting class. Difficult. Great speaker.
he gives a lot of notes
I don't remember the number of the class. it was intro to ethics. The point is, Professor Corvino should be president of the universe. he is amazing and one of the best professors I've had.
I've been blessed with the good fortune of two consecutive semesters of J.C'S infusion of positivity. listening to John Corvino can be compared to the warm, tender feeling that one experiences after feeding the animals at a petting zoo, stroking the precious flesh of a newborn, or the instant gratification of gramma's hot apple Pie. yesthatgood.
Clear, understandable. Gives plenty of time for questions. The only means of grading are 3 tests. So dont get sick around when a test is scheduled! Otherwise, you will learn a lot from lecture and studying. Great Prof.
great pro, easy if u take an interest. Hes Funny too!
good Prof. As long as you read the section and pay attention in class you can't fail. He gives limited reading a few pages a week. He will go over information until you understand it.
This is a GE class, figure it's easy...Noooo. Corvino makes easy material hard. Tricky multiple choice and they use a rubric for your essays...only 3 tests and a final. If this is just for a GE, too much work for the 3 credits. I work harder on this than I do classes for my major. Lectures are boring and makes me sleep but it helps to pay attention
The tests are hard if you don't study. Don't let his appearance and the easiness of the material fool you. In all though, he is an excellent scholar and he's extremely helpful, not to mention he's pretty famous.
Great professor. Presents class in a clear and indepth fashion. He is also HILARIOUS. -very enjoyble class.
kinda scrawny, but very hot I drooled over him for about a month before finding out he was gay. One or two quizzes about every week and half and 3 papers, none of which could be NO MORE than 500 words. Just make and get to the point
Perfect
Try to avoid this teacher as much as possible don't let his looks fool you. he's extremely hard, if you think PHI is easy then take his course and you will change your mind! oh did I mension his ****iness??
U simply couldnt ask for a better professor
I actually learned about structured arguments! It was wonderful. Wish I could have had a different TA, but Corvino himself was a great teacher. He's tough, but it's worth it.
Wow, did we have the same guy? I remember him as one of the most arrogant, moody professors I ever had.
As a mandatory class, it is perhaps one of the best you could ever hope to have. He explains all the articles (whether he agrees with them or not) very thoroughly. He is very available and does a remarkable job of making the atmosphere comfortable with the use of humor, in an otherwise uncomfortable situation (racism anyone?).
Great teacher! Makes the readings (which can become mundane and confusing) more exciting and understandable. I actually want to go to class. Respect him and he will respect you, plain and simple.
AMAZING TEACHER!exams were clear and if you attend its a piece of cake! Hes wayy tooo cute :) Hes so smart
Wonderful speaker and great teacer. Being a philosopher he is paid for his opinions, but does a great job representing both sides of the fence in his lectures. T.A. wasn't the best but Corvino is great!
He is an awesome teacher and it is too bad I can only vote hot for him once! No but really as long as you go to class and participate in discussin you will do fine. He gives you review sheets that are very helpful and your TA's will go over anything in discussion. HIGHLY recommended!!!!
I took the honors version and the material was pretty hard, but Corvino is a GREAT teacher and he's funny and lectures are pretty entertaining overall. Learned a lot in the class, but it was still a hard class.
Despite its relative difficulty, I took a lot from this course. Corvino is a little headstrong but very intelligent and helpful (see him during office hours if you're struggling). Grade consists of four exams (no essays) that require a high degree of fluency in the material, which is often dense and sometimes hard to decipher. Go to class and read.
I thought he was an excellent professor. His notes were amazing and his exams followed his study guide pretty much word for word.Do not slack off in this class just because you think it is easy, I saw many people fail because of this.
This was a great class. You should absolutely take this course! It is challenging, but if you keep up with the readings and attend class you will do fine. The TAs were great, and very dedicated. This is the best course I have taken in 3 years.
What can I say John Corvino is one of the best professor at WSU. He is funny and smart. His class is hard work you have to read all the papers and show up to class in order to do well on the exams. But showing up to class is totally worth it...HE IS SOOO HOT! I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR. Take his class you will learn a lot and you won't be sorry.
Dr. Corvino has been the best professor that I've had at Wayne State. He made class fun but still got the point across!
this class was amazing, i LOVED the material!! they way corvino taught made it VERRRRY interesting and not to sound like a nerd but i loved going to class and wished it were longer!! also the discussion sessions that go with the class which are smaller than lect. are VERY helpful and always turn into fun convo!
he is a wonderful, funny and the best teacher that i have
Very good speaker. Tests are hard but if you listen, come to class and read the text you will do well.
Im in the honors philosophy class and i was shocked at how hard this class was. I learned that if you write down every little thing he says (not kidding, i mean EVERYTHING), you will get carpal tunnel but you will also pass the tests! he is a really nice guy, and makes the difficult material understandable. -rita elias
Dr. corvino is a very intelligent guy but is not the easiest teacher. I thought for sure I would do good in his class and have a C. He only has 4 tests that are very difficult and thats what your grade is. HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED.
Intelligent professor, a little condescending when it comes to one-on-one help, but will try to do as much as he can to help. Don't recommend taking the class unless you have a strong interest, extremely dense.
This guy knows his stuff for sure, but this class is very hard. You have to be on top of all the reading and pay attention to every word he says in order to do well on exams. The exams are tough and composed of tricky multiple choice and essays. He can spot if you unsure in your essays and you will be marked down
Very hard class. The material is very mundane and boring. I did not do well in this class and I attended lecture when I could (had 18 credits), read the material, and felt I did well on his tests but did horrible. TA was boring but enthusiastic. Corvino is very smart and loves his job but takes PHI too seriously. My worst grade in college thus far
very good professor. one of the best. you must come to class, pay attention, and do the readings. my only problem was learning phi lingo. but that was on me. not prof's fault. good class
FANTASTIC...ACTUALLY!
he is a awesome teacher im taking more philosophy classes just because of his teaching and because he is so hot
Amazing Professor! Smart as well as Handsome..you will be glued to your seat during his lecture.and go to office hours..HE WILL HELP YOU OUT!! I lovv him!! You have to study your material and show him you know stuff..clss is noy impossible as long as u know your stuff..
Prof. Corvino is awesome! Make sure you come to class and read the material and you will do just fine. His TA's were awesome too. Very helpful and clear!
He's the kind of professor every college student should experience at least once in their academic life. He's entertaining so the class never gets boring and if you have a problem and talk to him, he's very understanding. Just make sure to keep up with the reading and try to say at least one thing in class. He likes class participation.
there is no excuses for not doing well, his tests were straight off the notes, and their wasnt even that many notes to learn in the first place. Anyone who said it was hard or that he was bad simply did not try
I had John Corvino for Contemporary Moral Issues, and it was by far my favorite class taken at Wayne. He is hilarious and makes discussions fun. He is open to everyone's opinion and does not force his on you. Overall an excellent professor! Strongly recommended!
Extremely difficult professor for a general education course requirement. Gives WAY TOO MANY readings and does not understand that we have other classes and majors. His exams are too tricky. Do NOT take him if you want an A.
Some of this stuff can be confusing or not interesting for most people. There are a lot of readings so be prepared. The number one mistake is not showing up to class. His lectures and class discussions give a lot more clarity to the content. Not bad, but kind of a demanding prof.
Good teacher, class isn't too hard. Only problem I had was my final grade was an 89.7% and I still got a B+! Oh well...
Dr. Corvino is very smart individual and a good professor. His course was fair. There are a lot of readings so make sure to keep up with them and actually understand them. Four exams (all with the same weight) make up the grade, so prepare well in advance for them.
One of my favorite courses at WSU! Corvino is very engaging has a light personality, which gets you interested in the material. Make sure to keep up on all the readings and come to every class as his insight into the readings gives much clarity. Very helpful when needed. Exams are not difficult if you follow the readings and notes he gives.
Professional Ethics was maybe the most interesting and engaging class I have taken at Wayne. Corvino wanted us to be involved in the discussion and found a way to make a potentially boring subject really interesting. If you came to class and read the material then you were pretty much set up for an A. I definitely recommend a class with him.
Great professor, makes things easy to understand. Follow along during lecture and you'll be fine.
Invokes discussion, and provides useful feedback. My only issue is the amount of reading, and the exams require you to remember specific points from all readings. TA's do the grading so be sure to ask them what they look for! Not the easiest course, but Corvino's lectures are sure to get you thinking about things from a new perspective. Smart guy.
Corvino was an excellent lecturer. He kept the class engaged and interesting. Definitely read the course pack and participate in class. Discussion portion seemed a bit pointless to me sometimes however the lecture itself was wonderful. Exam questions were confusing and tricky at time but the workload is not much!
Professor Corvino is fantastic! He is funny and caring. This class consisted of a lot of reading and only 4 exams so come to every class and study hard for the exams!
Corvino is nice, but his class so HARD. No hw, no extra credit, and no test drops. His 4 exams are heavy and graded harshly, 20 MC questions, 3 short answers, and 1 essay. Essays were graded harshly, I would write 3 pages and still get a lot of points off. You MUST read the book in order to write a decent essay. Avoid him if you can.
He's super nice. Doesn't post his powerpoints online and there's no echo so u have to go to class. He leads a discussion and so lectures are engaging. If you participate in class, it can be a good boost if you're on the edge. His tests are mostly easy but depending on the TA, they may grade essays hard. His practice questions for tests really help.
If you get a chance to have him as a professor, take it. You will learn a lot. He is not just good at delivering information, but delivering it without stress. I found this class fun and relaxing at times. Nothing too exhaustive.
Prof. Corvino is a very captivating lecturer. Even though the class size was large and attendance wasn't mandatory, I felt like I wanted to be in class and hear what he had to say. The course covered some sensitive topics, and Corvino was always respectful of everyones' opinions. Class had many very good discussions.
Don't take this guy overall he is a good guy but the class is very hard and the TA's in the class graded the essay part of the exam way too hard.
Great professor and engaging medical ethics class!
