Very nice man, pretty good Prof. He was always willing to help with question and assignments. Only thing bad I would say are that his assignments are extremelyyyyy long, way too long.
Best prof ever! Even helps out on Sundays before midterms. Help sessions for every assignment, great office hours, great notes. He's the funniest person ever! Everyone take math with him.
Great guy, first year at Memorial, gives a lot of extra help if you need it. Explains everything in easy to follow steps. I'd recommend him to anyone taking math.
Dr. Craighead is a great prof! He is a great marker, a great lecturer, and he makes sure you understand before he moves on. I highly recommend him.
Amazing professor! He gives great notes(which he even posts online), is super helpful, and has help sessions. This man was born to teach, he does everything step by step! He doesn't trick you on tests, he covers EXACTLY what he taught you. Extremely funny and actually made math interesting. Always had trouble with math and aced my first midterm.
Really good prof, gives notes and puts them online and is very flexible with schedules and such. He is very nice and funny and will help with questions after class and holds his own math tutorials.
John Craighead is a saint. He is extremely helpful, he gives super clear explanations, and has 3 hours of extra help sessions a week (Even more if it's before a midterm.) He makes math interesting, and super easy to understand. Definitely take his courses if you have to. Be prepared for longgg (but helpful) assignments though!
Great prof. Makes math concepts clear to understand, and is always willing to help you out.
Really great guy. Tells funny jokes and tries to help everyone anyway he can! His assignments are veeery long but they really prepare you for the tests. He offers help 3 times a week which is awesome because he answers some of the assignment questions for you! Also, he gives out chocolates during exams :) Recommend him to anyone!
Simply the best prof that I've encountered at the university. He dedicates an unreal amount of his time to making sure that students understand the concepts, and is a very nice and approachable guy. I'm bad at summing things up, so all I can say is that if you intend on doing Math 1000 (only if you have to..), try and get this prof!
Loved this prof!! This is my second course with him. He is VERY helpful, he has several help sessions a week. His assignments are LONG but I hardly had to study for the exams because I knew it from the assignments. Hands out chocolate during midterms! Dry Sense of humor, haha. Loved Mr. Craighead!
Goes COMPLETELY out of his way to help students. The most understanding and helpful prof I've had. Math is not my strongest point but I got through it because of Craighead. He held his own math tutorials each week, for assignments and extra ones before the midterms and final. Assignments are really long, but they help prepare you.
really nice professor, will do anything to help you out and make sure you succeed
excellent prof, goes out of his way to make sure you understand the material, very helpful and sweet. Best prof i have ever had at mun
Craighead is a WONDERFUL professor. You would be blessed to have him for any Math course. A hilarious, personable guy who makes coming to class fun, and knows his stuff. Always asks the class opinion and is trying to make your life easier - at least in Engineering, a real rarity! Cannot offer high enough praise - seek him and be rewarded.
This is the best professor ever! Calculus is my favourite class. so funny, friendly and helpful!!! Will do anything to help you understand the material. 100% recommend this prof to everyone! Makes things easy to understand and super fun.
Best university math course. He makes every class interesting and grades fairly. His assignments are golden and his midterms are exactly like the assignment. If you go to his classes and miss less then 4 then you have the chance for a 100% final. He is the most helpful prof i have ever had the pleasure of having!
This man is amazing. I failed Math 1000 two times, and I'm doing much better this time around. So nice to meet a math prof who understands that not everyone taking math is an engineering student.
Absolutely amazing professor! Craighead is a hilarious, genuine, helpful guy. He offers weekly tutorial sessions which are a huge help. Assignments are a little lengthy but great practice and personally helped me a lot with the course material. HIGHLY recommended!
Craighead is the best mathematics professors in MUN. There's not much else to say. He's funny, helpful and his class was a pleasure to go to. He went out of his way to assist anyone who asked.
best I ever had #1 of18! really helpful and happy to help you. The most reasonable prof I've had, assignments are lengthy but it is the only work really required. he is happy to learn, if you have an method that works that he did not know he's happy for you to use it.2nd time I did 1001 passTheFirstTime butNow I understand andHave aMuch betterMark.
Amazing Prof, most deffinitly would recommend him to anyone. For by first year in mun he made math alot easier and made sure you could understand. He manages to make math somewhat fun and has a very funny and good personality. He does everything out of his way to help!!!
Craighead has to be one of the sweetest Professors at Memorial. Gives plenty of opportunities for extra help and honestly cares about all of his students. Relatively easy marker. He's great at explaining, makes sure the class understands before moving on. Also makes a lot of jokes during class which lightens the mood. If possible take this class!
He is one of the best profs at MUN. He gives great notes and posts online. He will answer your questions anytime in or after class. He had weekly review tutorials and extra review classes on Sundays to help us for the tests. His assignments are a bit long, but practice is the best teacher. My best prof by far.
BEST TEACHER EVER. Mr.Craighead made me have a new appreciation for math. He turned my awful high school grades around with his awesome teaching ways. He really makes sure people understand his material and will do anything for you! I hope he teaches other courses so I can have him again.
Come back John we miss you. You are an awesome teacher and we miss you. Never had I understood Math before you.
Best prof I've had so far. Very nice and funny, making class fun to attend. Genuinely cares and stops several times throughout the class to ensure everyone understands. After teaching a new concept he will go around the classroom asking if anyone has questions. Assignments are long but helpful in the long run.
Craighead is a saint. He makes class enjoyable to come to and has a great sense of humor. Unfortunately, Craighead had to leave early this semester because of injury but while he was in the hospital he still asked to correct the midterms. Even with a broken arm! The most dedicated prof EVER. If you're doing math get Craighead! Number one math prof!
Craighead was the best math prof I ever had. Too bad he had to leave halfway through the semester due to an injury. He made things easy and clear to understand, and did whatever he could to help you out. Assignments were long, but he had weekly help sessions. Always made jokes in class and made it fun to go to! Would recommend taking his class
Mr. Craighead is an awesome prof who cares about his students. He understands math is not everyone's strong area and will do anything to make sure you pass the course. I would highly recommend to anyone!
NEED CALCULUS? TAKE IT WITH CRAIGHEAD! Must be the friendliest and most helpful prof in the department. Goes above and beyond to make sure you get it. Weekly help sessions on top of office hours. Assignments online as well as taken from the text, but he posts the pages you need on D2L so no need to purchase. They're long but they really help.
His assignments are like receiving a gift that's wrapped in spikes. It takes a while to get through, and you may curse it and question why it's taking so long, but in the end the gift inside is well worth the effort it took to get. You will forget the long hours spent on the assignment but you will be thankful for the mark you receive. Amazing prof
This guy is a god. He is the best teacher at MUN hands down. If you take 1001 with Craighead he will ensure you understand everything before moving on. His assignments are time consuming but make up for time you'll have to spend studying. If you can take a course with this prof you won't regret it.
Lectures are absolutely hilarious. Holds several help centres weekly for those who need it. Weekly assignments can get old fast, but they do help to keep you on top of what's going on in the course.
Don't take math with anyone else. He really goes out of his way to give help to those who ask. 3 weekly help sessions, 3 hour midterm review, sample midtermsextra practice for midterms, basically all but give the answers. He makes every lecture worth going to :)
Classes are easily enjoyed as he tends to crack a lot of jokes and isn't afraid to say when he's screwed up. Makes sure everyone in class understands before moving onto next topic. Assignments are long, but definitely help in the long run. Great guy outside of class and very understandinglenient when it comes to handing things in. RECOMMENDED.
I am so glad I have the privilege to call John Craighead my math professor!! I have never enjoyed math, or been good at it but he gives three help sessions a week, lectures are great, and you can tell he genuinely cares about his students! When a professor answers your e-mail in less than 15 minutes you know he's a keeper! :)
Craighead is all around awesome. He has help centres 3 times a week, he keeps class funny and interesting, gives extra marks for showing up on days that most people don't. He's extremely approachable and easy to deal with. Would recommend to anyone.
Best prof I've had so far. He's hilarious and knows his stuff. Has many help centres, review sessions which are awesome. Plenty of assignments which are really beneficial. Super approachable and HILARIOUS. Definitely take his classes!!
He was the best professor that I had this semester. He took everything step by step and in the end he took time out of his schedule to do some tutorials for his class. If I were to do another math course, I would definitely try to get him as a professor.
The best prof you could ask for. If I were to do another math course it would definitely be with him! I would recommend him to anyone.
Enthusiastic about helping students. Makes class interesting by keeping your attention with jokes. Very approachable. Gave assignments every week which were extremely helpful for learning course material. Flexible with due dates on assignments. Overall, EXCELLENT prof!
Best math professor ever !
John Craighead is super clear during his lectures, he has help sessions once a week! He is really concerned that his students are learning during class not just staring at the board. He often asks if he's going too fast, or slow. Overall he's an A+ prof!
He is kind, warm, funny and smart! His teaching is clear, he gives many examples, he has different ways to answer different questions. He definitely cares about his students, go to his classes and see his many notifications online and you will know what I mean. His notes are awesome, though occasionally his handwriting can be a bit harder to read.
HE IS THE BEST PROF AT MUN, Hands down. I haven't met a teacher in highschool care this much about their students, never mind university. He is such a sweet man, who tries his best to make everyone pass (23 tutorials weekly), keeps class interesting, and he makes all tests out of 100, so you'll do better on them. Lots of assignments, but they work
Easily the best prof I've had so far. Very helpful, clear and easy to understand, approachable, and super friendly. Easy to contact by email or after class. Flexible for midterm dates decided by the class and has tutorials weekly plus review sessions before exams. HILARIOUS guy and extremely friendly. Would definitely recommend!
Craighead is the best!!!!
Craighead is very funny and generally an understanding and nice person. He also teaches topics well and doesn't waste much class time. However, his midterms and assignments are brutally long. I would often find myself struggling to keep up with the assignments and often didn't finish them. But over all, not bad.
He will move heaven and earth to make sure you pass his class. Calculus is difficult but he is the best prof you can ask for.
With him math become interesting !
I had him for Math 10901000 and he was the best prof I have ever had. He is hilarious. He jokes around and made the material interesting. He has extra help groups 3 times a week and for each exams. He is also caring and understanding. He asks the students in class when they want examsreview so that everyone is accommodated. I got 75 the course.
Craighead is an awesome prof. Hated math in high school, but he made me enjoy being in class and is SO helpful. He doesn't move on until everyone understands the material and is very flexible with test dates! Best way to learn it is to go to class. Incoming 1st years should definitely try to get him for their math courses.
He's funny but not helpful at all, he messes up A LOT and is useless to make an appointment to see him.
Probably better suited as a comedian than math prof, Craighead's in-class jokes are both offensive but still hilarious. As an actually prof he can be confusing to follow as he routinely makes mistakes while doing his own examples on the board, however his notes are clear and easy to study. Beware of his assignments as they are lengthly.
Honestly the best teacher I have ever had. On multiple occasions he has offered to help me because he saw I was on my way to the help center, and obviously he didn't need to. Hilarious to listen to in class and keeps the class engaged well. Earned my respect after the first day and has made his class my favorite. Thanks Craighead you legend.
I cannot rave enough about this guy. Would seriously consider going to his classes for fun even if I didn't need the course lol.
Craighead is probably the sweetest prof ever, he really wants his students to do well and is willing to help you out in any way possible. This course is brutal in general but his lectures are clear and he is insanely funny. I'm so glad I had him as my math prof!
Really funny and very helpful in class. Gives hard exams but will do anything he can to prepare you. Would recommend!
Craighead was the best prof I had this semester. Hes hilarious, makes sure his students understand the concept before moving on, and is a genuinely nice person. His assignments and exams are brutally long but the assignments really help boost your mark. Hes willing to accommodate students and will move midterms if need be. I would def recommend!
Craighead is an absolutely laugh. Loved listening to his dry humor and it always got my attention back to what we were learning. The assignments are hell though. Super long and repetitive. The tests are very clear. As in, you know it or you don't.
Didn't come close to finishing the course material. He's funny but makes inappropriate jokes. Not suited for being a prof. Expect to need a lot of help outside of class from other people as he is useless as a teacher.
Terrible.... friendly but awful at teaching. Would not recommend.
Although the classes weren't always the clearest, John's help sessions (held three times a week) saved me multiple times. He would go over questions until you understood and didn't make you feel stupid for not knowing something. Lectures can be tough but take advantage of the smaller help groups and the one-on-one time, he's very understanding!
Craighead has a very dry sense of humor. Some jokes are hilarious and some are just offensive. He often makes so many mistakes while writing his notes on the board and students have to correct him. It can get confusing. His assignments and midterms are VERY long. I ran out of time on both midterms had to get a tutor because the notes were not clear
Really nice man. Extremely accommodating and always there if you need help. However, his notes are all over the place and he makes so many mistakes it becomes hard to follow. While he is very funny and seems to be a solid prof, his teaching isn't that great. Assignments each week that take hours to complete. Wouldn't overly recommend him.
Craighead is hilarious, he's pretty clear and his notes are great if you've a bit of math sense in your brain. Go to class and you should be fine. He also holds help sessions thrice a week so if you're having trouble, go to those.
At times he is sometimes a bit confusing, but super hilarious ! He tries his best and offers help sessions in which he basically gives the answers to the assignments ! Also, if you plan on attending his class make sure not to wear anything that's bright or out there, if you do he WILL call on you !!
Craighead is such a nice man, really funny and genuinely caring for his students. He sometimes is a bit all over the place, giving examples that he can't workout or making mistakes in his workings but always takes the time to explain how to do it properly. His assignments are long but they really do cover everything, the two midterms were very fair
John Craighead was a great prof! He explained the information in a way that everyone would understand and he answers tons of questions which is very helpful. However, he is an insanely tough grader, and his tests are really difficult. He gives an assignment every week, which are way easier than the tests. You have to work hard to get a good mark.
He has a great sense of humour but be ready to get called out, often says rude comments to students but it's all a joke and not serious. Gives an assignment every week about 10 pages long but midterms and final are the EXACT same. GO TO CLASS, he takes attendance and gives extra credit for those who go. Confusing at times but overall great guy!
He is all over the place with his notes, its terrible. He takes attendance and gives extra credit for going but it almost confuses you more to be in his class. He spends too much time being "funny" and not enough teaching. Assignments every week are long plus there are online assignments too.
Great guy. He is extremely helpful one on one if you take the time to do so. Personally I did not find his lectures useful, I found they made everything more confusing as he makes a few mistakes and is unclear where he made them. His exams are tough but they will prepare you for the final. his ratings come from personality more than teaching.
He is very helpful and goes above and beyond. He is very understanding and will meet you halfway if you ever have trouble with an assignment. He gives weekly assignments, but goes through most of it with the class. Put in at least some effort and you will pass
Extremely helpful. He also makes class interesting with funny jokes. His tests can be tough, you just need to study a lot. Would definitely recommend him.
Really good teacher !
LOVED Craighead! He's a funny guy, and most importantly, he actually cares about his students! There are a bunch of tutorials, go to them!! He gives great detailed examples. The weekly assignments are very long, but the extra practice is great, the questions on the midterms can't be different as you have already worked through so many examples.
BEST professor at MUN. Funniest guy you'll ever meet. He has about 1000 students and he cares about each as if they're his own. You won't find a better prof than Craighead!
Easy to talk to, will make time for students. Lectures are interesting and fresh, keeps everything easy to comprehend. Great, great prof, would love to have him again. My only gripe is that his assignments can be insanely long; not hard, just long.
By far my favourite prof at MUN. Super caring, hilarious, and overall wonderful person. He cares about each and every one of his students and makes sure that EVERYONE understands what is going on.
Really amazing prof. Hated and was very troubled in math before I did it with him. He does everything in his power to help you during/outside of class time and will meet half way if you knows you're really trying. Definitely recommend.
Such a sweet man who truly cares about his students! Posts notes online that aren't the ones from class which can be confusing. Didn't do very well but definitely not because of him, I just have a hard time with math. He sets up lots of tutorials and will always make time to see you out of class if you need it. Also very funny.
100% recommend him! He is super flexible with extensions and does everything he can so students can be successful. He even found funding for me to pay for an exam I had to change. Responds super quick with emails and is such an awesome human. Great teachers are so inspiring and he is one of them!
By far my favorite professor through my first semester, makes the transition from high school much easier because of his relaxed yet informative lectures, funny guy that consistently ensures students fulfill their potential. Makes time for students outside of class, and offers free weekly tutorial sessions. Great prof all around
Amazing teacher. Works very hard to ensure students understand and use properly concepts of math that he teaches in his class. Always available to help, always willing to explain something again if you do not understand.
Great/best math prof i have ever had. Cares about his students easy to talk to. Often gives extra time for midterms and also assignments. *CRAZY long assignments but they prepare you for midterms and final so good to do!
By far my favourite prof at MUN, I've taken him for both Math 1090 and Math 1051 and he is very caring towards all his students and wants the best for everyone. Makes sure that everyone in class understands the content and if you don't understand he is extremely easy to approach after class or during office hours! *don't wear bright colours 2 class
Craighead rocks. Assignments are long and hard but give you the extra practice needed for the brutal tests which demand a knowledge of the material inside and out. He's hilarious and care about all his students and will bend over backwards to make sure you pass. Will l give you credit where credit is due. His classes are a worth attending.
Craig head is the man. He wants all 375 of his students to pass he has a big heart and is probably the only prof on campus who legitimately cares, finding a prof like this is 1 in a million.. although assignments are long they are worth it because it boosts your average up just before finals. He is very approachable outside of class.
math1090 has a lot of materials, Homeworks are long but it helps a lot . awesome prof .
Loved being in Craighead's class! Teaches very thoroughly in way that's easy to understand. One of the best things he does is give you steps to solve each type of problem. I was frustrated during the term about the amount of homework but it ended up paying off when studying for the final. He's also funny and really sweet if you ask him for help.
He was one of the best math teachers I've had. He gives long weekly assignments but they were key in practising and learning course material. He cares about his students and was a great prof all around! The only criticism I could offer was that he rushed the end of the course.
Honestly a math god! He was beyond amazing. I aced this course by doing barely anything besides the assignments. Assignments are very long, many questions and some textbook questions as well, however totally pays off for midterms and final. I would recommend him to anyone!
Craighead is a legend. Best prof I've had at MUN.
He's a nice guy and pretty funny! The assignments are long, but they're good practice. Easy to understand
He gives out pretty long weekly assignments but they help make sure you understand the material. He also has extra help sessions every week and will do any of the questions on the assignments for you. He likes to call on people but he won't make you answer & you can request not to be called on. He's very funny caring & accommodating with test dates
John is the best prof I've ever had. I took 1090 in class and failed it and then took it again online with him. All lectures were posted online and he assigns long weekly assignments that account for a good portion of the final grade and are super helpful! He is the BEST prof I've had in my 3 years at MUN!!!!
Craighead is easily the best prof I've had at MUN. He changed the way I looked at my ability to do math. His lectures are hilarious and he gives amazing notes, plus he gives reviews outside of class time for both midterms and the finals. It's basically impossible to fail his classes unless you don't care
Prof. Craighead is truly a great math prof. Gives so many examples and clearly explains things so you know what's up. Assignments are really long but they prepare you for midterms and finals so they're worth it. Great guy, great sense of humour, and I'm grateful to have been in one of his courses.
Best professor I've had yet at MUN. His assignments are very long and very challenging, but he provides plenty of help & guidance to bring you through. I wish all of my professors had been like this.
He's a really awesome professor that makes you want to come to class all the time due to his sense of humor. If you show up and show real interest in the class, he'll do his best to help you out. Gives tons of practice sheets so you are prepared for the midterms and final.
Loved prof. Craighead this year! He made me actually want to attend an 8am math lecture four days a week. Gives great examples in class and super accessible outside of the classroom, hilarious guy too. Assignments are long, but basically mirror your midterms and exam and are such helpful study tools.
Gives long assignments but honestly the best prof I have ever had at mun. He really cares for his students
John is a real gem. Definitely one of the best profs I have at MUN. Only critique is that his assignments are way too long. Yes, it is great practice but I find myself just googling the answer towards the end just to get the work done. Overall a hilarious and great prof!
John if for sure one of the best profs Ive ever had! He really knows how to make his math lectures interesting and always jokes around so the lecture isnt miserable. He really knows his material and does before class and after class tutorials to help his students the most he can! Hes overall an amazing prof and Id recommend him to anyone!
John is a funny and ultimately caring person. He does try and give help when students are in need, but thats about where the good things stop. During lectures his writing is impossible to read and if voices can annoy you i suggest not taking this class Its like I can hear the spit in his mouth while he's talking, plus answer keys are wrong a lot.
Probably the best professor I have ever had. An amazing guy, he cares SO much about his students. He bends over backwards to make sure everyone understands and holds tutorials 3 times a week where he more or less gives you answers to the assignments. Additionally, he is hilarious and makes class so fun. If you get the chance to take him, do it!
He seems to be very caring and wanting to make you pass but other than that I couldnt stand him. He goes really slow to the point Im convinced Ill have to teach myself most of the course by midterms and finals. He also somehow messed up Pi? He also has online assignments which are really confusing to enter online if you have the right answer
I thought Craighead was an alright lecturer, but he was super eager to help outside of class. I ended up redoing the course with another professor and got a 91 instead of a 56. He is funny but we didn't finish the course material and had to teach ourselves the final unit. He was okay, but I personally wouldn't take him again.
John is a gem. I personally am not a fan of math but John makes it so much better. Crazy how caring he is. He literally does SO much to make sure EVERYONE understands the material. He is also hilarious. Would 100% recommend. Really nice outside of class as well and makes sure you understand everything before you leave his office.
John is a really good prof and I highly recommend him. I have friends that have taken 1090 and 1000 with him and they have the same opinion. He uses a lot of examples in class. He is also respectful of his students and does not force students to talk. All classes are recorded with lecture capture so if you miss a class, you can always watch it!
I didn't dread going to his lectures. he made learning math fun.
Excellent prefessor. He does examples with the class and takes the time to make sure everyone understands topics being covered. He also has his posted office hours plus he normally there anyway so he is very accessible. He also cracks a joke here and there. He does not force anyone to speak if they do not wish too. Highly recommended.
John made an 8am class 4 times a week, a little more bearable to attend. He likes to crack jokes and chat but makes sure that everyone in the class understands. The lectures are good and the assignments are a little long but pretty easy, and he has extra help sessions where he'll basically give you the answers. Super nice guy, I recommend.
great professor overall!!
Craighead is hilarious, makes lectures so enjoyable to attend! Definetly made the course easier to understand, used lecture capture so class wasn't mandatory! Would highly recommend taking him for any math course!
Craighead is by far one of the best prof in the math department. He make things very clear and will do anything to help his students. Calculus is not easy but Craighead is your best option if you have to take the course. 100% would take again.
Best math prof at MUN for sure. He really cares about his students and he wants you to do well. 10/10 recommend. If you can take a class with Craighead do it!!
Best Math prof at MUN. Had him for Math 1000 online and was the best I have ever done in math. He is quite clear on what you need to know and gives a multitude of examples. His homework is a bit long, but is really just to nail in the concepts so you really know the material for the tests.
Really great prof and very accommodating i would defs take the course again
Tutorials for assignments are key!!!!! He is my favourite prof.
Does great at communicating his knowledge to students. His help sessions really help expand the videos that you watch when doing math 1000 online. Also really helpful and understanding outside of class. 10/10 would recommend for this course
John is just a lovely person. He is super thorough in showing the class what needs to be done. He walks you through everything step by step and is very flexible if you need time or help. He cares and is just really good at teaching. He responds to emails promptly, he is available for extra help, honestly he's a blessing. Especially if you hate math
Assignments are rather lengthy, other than that John does well going over course material and will never fail to crack a cheesy joke when the time comes. Awesome prof and even better person.
John seems like a decent guy in general but I found his lectures so hard to follow/confusing, his writing is impossible to read and I learned more from the tutorials he posted with someone else than his lectures. Assignments are WAY too long, questions aren't explained right in his lectures & online assignment are impossible to input.
I took this class during the pandemic and this prof put in 0 effort and piled on a bunch of videos early on, making everything very difficult to keep up with, let alone the fact that a solid chunk, if not all the videos, are poorly recorded lectures from years ago and/or not his. He also assigns work on webwork, a website for math that doesnt work
Seems to be a nice guy, but WAY too much homework. from 20+ paged assignments every week and an annoying webworks assignment every week it is the biggest time-consuming course I take. His course is very hard to navigate around and overwhelming. Trying to upload my assignments but grade scope wouldn't load, he provided no help, and I received 0%.
John Craighead is one of the few math teachers that I could actually learn from. Math is a hard subject for me, but Craighead's videos are actually understandable, and the lady who does the question videos is super helpful too! Although, the assignments are 13-25 pages long but manageable.
John is a really nice guy! But, I took his Math 1090 course over COVID and did not have the best experience. I have taken this course before in HS, so I knew all the content, but if I did not I could see myself struggling in his class. The lecture are old and badly recorded & 2 very long assignments every week. Also takes forever to respond toemail
He's an amazing prof! I'm horrible at math but he helped me get through the course. Assigns a booklet every week but it's easy marks. Always available to help or if you have any questions. Very kind and cares about his students!
I'm taking him right now and honestly he isn't that bad. First week was a disaster because he uploaded the wrong work for week 1 but no one is perfect :) and also the assignment's are LONG but they are extremely helpful because when the exam comes, you should know how to solve each question cuz of the amount of practice you would've done :)
He is a very nice prof, however, he never answers any emails. This is definitely not good considering the whole course is online and the only way to reach him is through email. I would recommend for in class but not online due to not being able to get your questions answered in a timely manner.
Prof. Craighead was one of the sweetest! His assignments were incredibly straightforward and he didn't give any chapter tests. The midterm was very clear. One con with him is that he's not great at answering emails. He is an incredibly sweet guy though, I would take him again.
One of the best profs I had all semester. Craigheads assignments were extremely fair and if you followed the videos posted, it was pretty easy. He was really flexible and responsive to his emails, unlike a lot of profs I had. If you have the chance to take one of his math courses, I would definitely recommend doing so.
If I could give a zero I would. He is incredibly hard to listen to through the online video lectures and his notes are down right not legible. Maybe he is a better in person prof but if you are online avoid at all costs. For the assignments he gives questions he dont show examples for and in his notes he covers the bare minimum.
The sweetest man you will ever meet. Cares a lot about his students and is very flexible with deadlines. He thoroughly explains the material in a way that is easy to understand and made me love math. The assignments are long but helpful. I strongly recommend choosing Craighead as your math prof, you won't regret it!
I would love to take all my math courses with him again if possible. Was my better deal for the whole year
Assigns lots of homework along with 19-28 page weekly assignments, math may be practice but these assignments are hard to balance with a full course load and a part time work schedule. Recorded lectures normally help with the balance but he's got a very strong lisp and poor recording equipment making understanding the lecture very challenging.
Solid prof. Always super helpful and gets back to you quickly with questions. Cares about his students. Highly recommend him.
Although his assignments were lengthy and annoying, everything on the test we have done something very similar. No surprises on exams. Do the practice exams and assignments and you are prepared. I would not take him online for any more advance maths than 1090 as its hard to commit to an online course. He answers emails.
John was great. Even though I didn't do too well (and that's on me) I can truly say that he's the best prof for 1090. His assignments might be 20 pages long but it helps you prep for what's coming on the exams. He also gave out easy points for just watching the skill development videos. Gives out gift cards from time to time which I find so cute.
great prof
I had the pleasure of being a student in Professor John Craighead's class and he was an exceptional educator. He was very approachable, easy to work with, and genuinely cared about his students. The notes he provided before exam helped very much. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for an excellent professor for calculus.
Absolutely amazing and more than willing to help.
Gives big assignments as homework but he's a very good teacher. Caring, funny and professional. The whole class loves him.
Absolute sweetheart. Gives out $5 Tim Hortons cards in lectures. Cares a lot about the success of his students, and is very responsive and answers the same day. I would recommend John to anybody who struggles with understanding math, as he finds ways of bringing hard topics to light.
Craighead is a good prof, he's funny and knows what he's talking about for the most part, but sometimes needed to be corrected. He responded quickly to emails at the beginning of the term, but since the first midterm, I've been unable to reach him, and not sure why. Very assignment heavy and they aren't worth a lot except for practice.
He's a nice lecturer who cares about his student, I recommend you to take him again
Fun professor, gives clear lectures. Lots of homework that (not heavily graded) but you would want to do all of them to do well in the tests. Easily approachable. However, he did seem to be getting more stressed out gradually towards the end of the semester and the feedback and email replies were irregular. Getting a B grade is on me.
The material was taught very well however the assignments were quite long so be prepared to spend a lot of time on them. Although it was slightly difficult to reach him by email, he was very helpful and responsive during the review/help sessions. both the midterms and the final were very fair (no surprise questions).
Be prepared for long assignments as some were over 20 pages long! Don't put them off, and you'll be fine. The assignments definitely help prepare for the tests. Evaluations are fair and lots of practice is available. Course is well laid out and easy to follow. Help is available through online sessions each week. Highly recommend.
He meant well & did care for students but I found him to be really unorganized while teaching lectures. Every lecture he made mistakes when doing class examples that students had to correct him for. Class notes were extremely hard to read due to using thick sharpie and scratching out a lot of mistakes he made. Assignments are long so start early!
He is really good prof and his exams are similar to simple exams but his assignments are very long around 22 pages.
John is an excellent prof. His midterms are fair, and the final was very similar to the sample one. He does have very long assignments though, so try to pick away at them right when they're released. The last unit, ODE's, is very rushed, and I didn't like that too much. However, it's not tested very much on the exam.
This professor is an absolute gem!!
The goat. Nuff said.
Amazing professor. Responds almost instantly to any questions you may have surrounding material or the course. You will have this course down by the end of it. Very funny and uplifting guy who uses many real-life examples and applications in his teachings to make concepts easier to grasp. Would recommend to anyone taking 1000/1001 math.
Great prof who cares about student success. Assignments are lengthy but exams are predictable. Definitely use Unstuckstudy and other resources to ace this class.
makes you do 30 page math assignments in a week not even worth 1% of your final grade and exams are insanely difficult as they are 15 pages long and worth 80% of your final grade. Online he is pretty much useless. Would not take his course again.
DO NOT TAKE ONLINE! Weekly 20-page assignments worth >1% of final grade. Final and midterm questions were much more difficult than other slots and the samples. Seemed to genuinely care about his students. May be good in person, but certainly not online. It's worth it to find a different slot. A difficult course made so much harder by him.
7 Weekly assignments 20 pages long but only a couple questions actually graded, worth like 10% combined. Test heavy but he was pretty wise. Gets back to student pretty fast. Weekly 1 hour lecture but not mandatory as they are recorded and posted, worst part was webwork. nails prof doe
murphy is very kind and seems to want his students to do well. however, the notes he posts online are quite hard to follow (audio is hard to hear, so many acronyms, you have to listen to ALL the videos to understand.) assignments as long as 28 pages, however within his videos he has a lot of the answers. midterms and final were fair
Unorganized. Barely able to understand notes. Will show easy examples and then nail you with 28 page assignments weekly that go beyond what is in lecture. Half the time feel like I missed a whole section but alas, nothing there. More learning from youtube than lecture. Exams use the most difficult questions from assignments so be prepared.
His online lectures are borderline unwatchable, over 1 hour long with no way of actually absorbing anything since they're so dry. Had to resort to other means to learn any material and even then it was difficult. His assignments to "replace weekly quizzes" due every Sunday are often 20 PAGES LONG! Takes hours upon hours to do each one.
To give credit where it is due the weekly assignments got less tedious as the course has went on, material is all videos. Videos have rough edits with little guidance, “so we know that…” no we don't know because we haven't been taught (in this course) what methods you're using. Found myself understanding the few videos with other speakers way more.
The assignments were long but they had pretty much every case possible on all the topics making the midterms and finals way easier. He had lecture capture setup so it was nice being able to rewatch topics I did not understand. He gave lots of sample midterms and finals to review while also doing weekly assignment help Zoom meetings to ask questions
Really great prof, only reason I passed the course. As someone who really struggles with math courses , he helped me be able to pass this course and cares about his students. Long assignments but manageable, tests are decently fair.
Overall John was a really good Professor, Only complaint is answer keys for sample midterms and finals were kinda messy. I recommend John if you are able.
Assignments are long, ~24 pages due weekly. Topics are not explained in detail, and lectures are usually cut short due to the weather being too nice to not enjoy it. Had to be corrected constantly and even at times wouldn't take the corrections from students. Extremely tough grader, (could have been the TA). Spring Semester.
John is very good prof and his lectures are very fun but the only thing is that his assignments are very long otherwise they are easy if you follow his steps.
