Crowell does a wonderful job in preparing the class for his exams. He has a course website so that anyone can access homework solutions, practice tests and solutions, course handouts, and a message board. His review sessions before each exam are great.

His lectures may not be the most interesting, but you can tell he puts in a lot of effort to help his students! Practice exams are VERY important and VERY similar to the actual tests! Go to review sessions and study practice exams! You'll do well!

The most student-friendly prof I've had at UCSD--dedication like no other! I felt bad for all the whinings he had to put up with, because he didn't deserve any of them. 6B was the best because of him! (and a cute TA)

An AMAZING professor. Review sessions and practice exams are extremely important. He makes every effort (office hours, chem helproom, website discussion board) to make sure that his students can get help with HW or get questions answered.

Crowell was really caring, had great reviews and practice MT's...still, lectures were as dull and monotonic as could be...even the TAs fell asleep during his stuttering of "e-e-e-lectrons"...if you're a good self-motivated student, go for him!

Very good professor. One of the best I've had so far. Provides LOTS of ways to get help before test. Allows one cheat sheet per exam and 4 during final. Sometimes exams tricky but if you study you can easily get an A or B.

Midterms and finals are not bad as long as you do the practice tests in full. His lectures are extremely boring and actually confused me MORE than helped me. You need to do the majority of the work on your own b/c his lectures are boring and incoherent.

Gives handouts in class. His system is not condusive to taking notes, but he tries hard. Do the practice exams and go to section. The practice exams are very similar.

Crowell is cool sometimes, but he shouldn't teach AM classes... his speech is just too monotone to sit through and stay awake. Exams are OKAY, not too long, and you get good practice between reviews and other exams.AllYou good asian students will do fine.

professor crowell is very very very boring. he's as amusing as a piece of cardboard. and his monotone voice just makes you want to take nice naps in his class. powerpoint slides don't help. if you'r not good in chem, do not take class. you won't learn

Okay...Crowell gives out his lecture notes before lecture...so that's a plus...but his tests suck...alot! I did get an A on one of his tests...but I guessed the answer to every question...NO JOKE!!! No quizzes though...oh...and I love the way he says "metals"...I still laugh about it!

This guy is fantastic. He's a good lecturer (he stutters, but you get over that really quickly). He really cares about his students actually learning the material and will go over a prob many times to explain it to you. Do the hmwrk, go to reviews and do the practice exams and quizzes.

He is the only Chem prof that has an overflowing lecture hall at every lecture. He is really passionate about teaching and he does everything he possibly can to help us. Sample probs help and the bonus points for clickers are really important. Practice quizzes, exams, and reviews are a must to ace.

Terrible lecturer, annoying voice, explains things as if they're so simple, but usually skips over steps most ppl don't think of. Goes through slides too fast. Fair class. You'll do well if you're good at chem and you do the hw and practice quizzes. He talks to the class like we're really stupid.

He's one of the best prof in UCSD. Too easy that I underestimated >.<" I wished I spent more time studying for quizes and midterms, otherwise I didn't have to study hard for final. DO and UNDERSTAND ALL the practice exam and quizes as the real ones are similar.

He trully cares about his students passing and learning the class material. I learned a lot!!! I didnt find him boring at all... he used some strange remarks such as "Are you pumping my tires?" isntead of "ARe you pulling my leg?" LOL, I wont forget those... Everyone should take him!!!

this is probably the hardest class i've ever taken. I ruined my GPA and neglected my position in student council because i was studying for this class constantly yet still got a D. I imagine that if i actually had the time to complete all the homework and practice exams that i would've done better.

Crowell is SO committed. How many other profs do you know that offer sample quizzes, sample midterms, and sample finals? He even holds review sessions ON HIS OWN TIME to help you understand the material! His exam curves are generous and he is an all around nice guy. I could highly recommend him!

Great professor! Provides powerpoints for every lecture. Great practice midterms and final, do them! Devotes a lot of time to student's understanding. Go to his office hours (it's close to one-on-one). Overall great! I recommend. One of the best professors UCSD has to offer (that I've seen so far).

He's an excellent professor. Take him! His grading curve is very generous. About 27% top of class get A, so easy. His midterm exams resemble practice exams, and the final exam is like the prior midterm exams. I'm happy that I took his class.

BOO. His Slides/Powerpoints were WAY to paked with inifo on EACH slide it was hard to follow! Tests were so hard! But, P.Chem is just a difficult subject period. I heard he's better than the past prof. though. AHHHHHHHHHH! :(

slides WAY packed with info so its kinda confusing to follow what he is talking about, just hope that you get a good TA, even though my TA didnt really know what he was talking about either. Otherwise he is a very devoted teacher but lectures suck

Prof. Crowell is sooooooo good! He is the nicest prof. I have ever seen and cares greatly about the students. He goes very fast in the class but creates useful practice exams. He has extra lectures before midterms and the final. He just spends his own time to make sure P-chem is takable for everybody.

the prof is caring wants you to do good. very prepared. midterms(mts) resemble practice mts somewhat. do all the practice problems he gives you including the lecture probs. he is helpful, but he is not great at responding e-mails and he doesnt answer the questions on his forum. and he is a bit inflexible.

Prof. Crowell gives you every opportunity under the sun to get a good grade in his class. Thats what he wants. If you don't get a good grade in this class, its because you didnt study. Lectures can be confusing though, lot of info packed on the slides. exams can also be tricky sometimes. Overall great professor

I studied very hard for this class, but still ended up doing badly. The practice exams will help you for maybe only one problem on the actual exam, and they only give him more reason to make the tests harder. The clicker use as bonus points was nice and he does want to help his students, but his belittling of SDSU has got to stop.

One of the best professors I had in UCSD so far. He is so very nice and dedicated to his students. He spents so much time even outside of classroom time to help you. As long as you do all of your homework and practice tests you should have no problem in his class. I highly recommend him.

Most of the time I had no idea what he was talking about in his lectures, but the book made it more clear. Read the book, go to lecture for the extra credit, homework is not really necessary. As long as you know how to do the practice tests you should be fine. My friend got 70s on the midterms and ~85 in the final and got an A. Not very difficult

Crowell really helps his students as much as possible unlike the other prof. He is a nice person and care for his students. Pchem is difficult but people will pass this class with Dr. Crowell's help. The material he presents is more understanding than the stuff in Phys 2D. HW is mandatory so do them and read the book for extra clarity.

Good professor. He shows much more concern for the students than any teacher i've had so far.Pchem is hard, but read his lecture notes (they're detailed, u'll get lost, but read them). Tests are not easy, but fair & representative of the hw & lectures. he's very smart & enthusiastic about the subject. take him for Pchem & u won't suffer as much.

Nicest man you'll ever meet. He makes the most extensive cheat sheets for tests, they're really helpful. Don't need to take notes because he gives to print outs of the slides. Holds extra review sessions before each midterm. Exam problems are similar to practice problems and hw. Can be hard sometimes, but he really wants you to do well

Prof Crowell really wants you to do well. His tests are pretty true to the homework and practice tests. He puts in a lot of time and effort. His note sheets for the tests are multiple pages. Sadly, his lectures are boring, but mandatory(ish) because of the clicker points. But his willingness to help you learn helps a lot.

lectures are super boring, but they are mandatory because he does the clicker questions. however you can really tell that he puts a lot of work to make sure that we understand it because he always print copies of the lecture for the students, has practice exams, and lead review sessions. practice exams are really helpful and multiple choice exams.

As far as grades go, he is very easy with a generous curve and a rediculous cheat sheet. It's obvious that he puts a lot of time and care into his classes. However, because his resources were so comprehensive I feel like I didn't really learn much since so much is provided for you. If you like that, then definitely take him.

He made supposedly the most difficult of the chem 6 series a no-stress class... as long as you took advantage of all the resources he offered. He's a really great prof, BUT his lectures can get a bit dull (overload of info) and are unfortunately made "mandatory" by clicker points (which on the other hand are pretty easy to earn w/ some prep work).

Probably the best/easiest chem professor you will ever have. Lectures are kinda boring but you go because of the clicker points. All you really need to do is study off his previous exams and if you get a general idea of the material you're guaranteed a B. Homework is somewhat helpful but just study off the old exams he gives you and you're good.

One of the best chem professors you can get! He's extremely nice, definitely shows he cares for his students, and his curve is crazy. He is my favorite chem professor yet and his grading/tests make it really easy to get a decent grade. Definitely take this professor!!!!

Great guy, will have extra OH during Finals Week, is very easy to talk to. But goes too in-depth: spends little time on important concepts, lots of explaining where a formula came from. HW is excessive, practice tests are fantastic preparation- do all practice tests several times until it's reflexive and you'll be well-prepared.

VERY easy class. The curve was 80% for an A in the end. The tests are exactly mirrored off of the practice exams. Crowell's tests are all math related, just like the practice exams. The study sessions are a bit pointless because he ends up posting his answers and work online on webct.

Bad lecturer! The only reason to come to class is to click in. Never learned much from him, but he does a great job posting practice exams. They were the only way I passed the class. He's a really nice guy though and you can tell he really cares about students. He holds his own review sessions which is kind, but not helpful! Unfortunately avoid :(

Crowell is a nice guy, but I could barely stay awake in his lecture. But there still hope, read the book and make sure you can do his practice exams and you will be fine; especially if your decent at math. His class is actually pretty simple to get an A in, but you will have to do the learning on your own.

I couldn't stand his lecture, but clicker points were part of the grade. His lecture notes do help, so be sure to at least look over it. He has this weird way of talking that is really annoying, well at least to me. His tests are easy, but he screwed me over with some stuffs. BE SURE TO LOOK AT UNITS. Then do the practice exam, it will help.

Prof Crowell is prob one of the best teachers at UCSD. His lectures arent that great but honestly, which chem 6b professors will you get that are going to teach you everything. the important thing to know is that his tests were very fair and the clicker points were a good part of the grade so its pretty hard not to get a good grade in his class.

i don't know how this professor got good ratings. i can't understand his lectures, so it makes me unmotivated to even do well in this class. i studied at the last minute (literally on the day of midterms and final), and i did okay w/out his lectures. lectures are useless but it's mandatory because of clicker points. don't take him.

Lectures are dull, but the professor makes copies of the slides. Important to understand how to do quantitative questions on tests: study using the practice tests, the real tests are similar-looking.

Took in Wi 08. nice and caring professor. Gives several practice tests (with solutions)for each midterm/final. He gives you equation sheets, but it's best to memorize the important ones so you'll have time to solve all the questions. 3 midterms, 2 hours long, multiple choice. Didn't touch the textbook and got an A, but didn't learn much.

I don't know what everyone is talking about. I think his lectures are crystal clear. The only problem is application because tests are tricky and require you to know the topic conceptually, instead of just knowing how to use an equation. But if you actually try to pay attention in class, shouldn't be hard. one of the best chem teachers out there

I took this professor because his reviews said that he'd have easy tests. WRONG. The tests are ridiculously long, with a really useless equation sheet, and very tricky. His lectures are incredibly boring too. He's a nice guy, because he does post a lot of extra help online, but overall, the class is not worth taking.

I dont understand why so many ppl said his tests are esay..they are not esay at all..very tricky-> look out for units, it might screw u up..but he gives extra credit, so it helps a little, if u have him, dont even go..cuz like only 1/3 of class go so sad =.=..just read the book

Tests are not easy. My class got an average of 60 across all 4 exams including the final. I feel lucky that I got a B. I do have to say however that Crowell does realize that this is a GE and he curved very generously at the end. I'm grateful for that, but still, the amount of stress that my scores gave me throughout the course was overwhelming.

Whoever says this class is hard obviously didn't do their part to scrutinize the material in depth. If you READ THE BOOK beforehand, his lectures further your knowledge. If you don't, they're cryptic. You can't expect him to spoon feed you an A. His tests are extremely fair and doable. JUST like the HW and practice tests. Use your time wisely.

He is too detailed in his lectures and slides. He provides printed slide sheets so that's helpful although I never looked at them. He is a very good professor and knows his topic. Also, he's pretty generous in his curving at the end. I ended up with an A. There was extremely low attendance in lecture...I don't blame them, but I went to most of them

Lectures are really boring. Tests are mildly difficult, but there are no surprises. Rushed his teaching in the end bc he ran out of time so I ended up teaching myself a chapter or two for the final. The final was easier than the midterms. I got an A on it with lots of studying. I would recommend him. Basically, boring lectures w/doable tests.

Crowell's a really good professor who knows what he's talking about. If you study the book, do the problems, and read over his slides (I never went to class) you'll do fine. Just make sure you understand the material front & back, and you should get an A. People who complain obviously don't know the material well enough. Hes a nice guy, go to OH

Nice guy teaching a boring class. He seems genuinely interested in the subject and is willing to help you. Posts his lecture notes online so you can print them out prior to class. His practice exams are helpful but try not to completely memorize them and actually understand the concepts as the exams aren't exact copies.

Seemed very hard at beginning after I failed 1st quiz. I stressed out and studied very hard for the hw and practice quizzes. I was fu**ing stunned when I got a 99 on the first exam. Do the hw, at least the example probs and when you feel confident enough, honestly test yourself on the prac. tests. His tests are very similar to practice ones. A+

Monotone, boring and sounds like he's reading a book in lecture, but he's not. His exams, (all midterms and final) is MC which is okay I guess. 6B is just a generally tougher course than 6A or 6C. I'd recommend someone else.

Those of you who want to destroy your GPA, take this class. First off, he does not understand the concept of being concise and he's a freaking scientist! Those of you who have seen his lecture slides will understand. Second off, the only way to get a B or higher is to have old midterms and home works. Third, this guy just sucks.

Passing his class isn't too hard. But if you want that A, it requires a lot of work. He's a horrible lecturer and going to class is a waste of time. Tests are difficult and they don't reflect the homework, not to mention they're long. But he curves well, and his practice exams are very useful with his solutions. He really tries to help out.

He's a nice guy and genuinely tries to help his students understand the material, but his lectures are tedious and barely anyone attends. Luckily he posts all his lecture slides online, and he holds review sessions before the midterm. And even though the tests are hard, the curve is extremely generous and he offers tons of extra credit.

He's a nice person but a terrible lecturer. He spends way too much time on pointless things and not enough time on important ones. He jumps from concept to concept in his lectures like everybody automatically understands them but it just leaves people lost. The curve in his class is VERY NICE though. If you study hard, you can get a good grade.

Compared to other chem professors hes pretty easy and he posts practice exams before every midterm and final. he offers a good amount of extra credit and his review sessions are pretty helpful. if you try hard enough you can get a good grade.

His practice exams are nice, but don't think the midterms/finals will be direct copies with different numbers. I quite enjoyed prof crowell. I had to try pretty hard, but but he's fair, plus you get extra credit for going to section. there are 5 quizzes, 2 midterms. if you pay attention in lecture, you will find he is actually really funny!

Very sweet Professor. Makes you take alot of quizzes and tests, but you actually LEARN. Most people ditch his lecture claiming his isnt teaching anything, but in truth his lecture examples give answers/hints to his quiz/midterms. Going to lecture saved me like 5 hours of figuring out the quiz on my weekends. During office hours he is extra nice!

I really enjoy his class. Although he is not the best lecturer he genuinely tries to help his students. He posts Practice Exams with answers and detailed solution which is extremely helpful. I recommend taking him if you are a hard worker that is willing to read the textbook to learn while using his materials as supplements.

Professor Crowell is so helpful. His class is straightforward and easy to study for. He hosts these multiple hour long review sessions that are so beneficial in studying for midterms and finals. The final was kind of difficult, but overall, the class is manageable.

Prof Crowell is helpful and caring. He has review sections before midterms and finals, which go over the practice exams he puts online. This is the hardest class in the series, so don't expect you can cram right before the test. Tests can be hard, but his curves are extremely generous. You should definitely take his class.

Crowell is very knowledgeable and passionate. However, he's also very detailed and he heavily stresses conceptual thinking so be prepared for high quality studying. Plus, he makes things sound overly complicating. Big curve which saves about 90% of us. If you want a challenge, take him. You'll learn a lot.

Professor Crowell's class is not easy, and many people find it hard to pay attention in lecture. That being said, Crowell is an extremely sweet prof and he'll help anyone who bothers to ask him for it. For an A, read most of the book, attend ALL reviews, and while doing Aris is tedious, I found it really helped in his tests since it's math based.

Crowell is a very sweet professor. Although his lectures are sometimes hard to follow, his office hours clear any questions up. You do have to work for an A, but it is worth it. You learn a lot in his class, which is helpful in later classes. I definitely recommend him for 6A if you work hard and are willing to learn.

Don't let the cape reviews discourage you from taking him. Crowell is actually a decent professor and gives his students many opportunities to get points throughout the quarter. He also curves well, so if you do your homework and show up to lecture, you will be fine.

I found it extremely hard to follow him in lecture and did not read the book. But I studied and went to the review sessions and managed a C+. The class is not easy but I believe he gives his students a huge break with the end-of-the-quarter curve. Don't under-estimate this class like I did and you'll be fine

I had Crowell for Chem 6A and while he's a really nice professor, he's a really boring lecturer. His slides are almost complete translations of the book and his voice is very monotone. He curves very generously and while I wouldn't say to avoid him, if there are better professors, go for those.

Though he puts up all his powerpoints online, he requires an iclicker so class is a must. He does decent job of explaining the basics of chemistry, but puts all the hard stuff on exams. First exam is easy though. Second very complicated. Final is everything so it can go both ways.

Take advantage of free points from i-clickers and homework. Take ARIS seriously and you'll need less time to study for exams and quizzes. He stresses conceptual topics and leaves a lot of self-learning to you. An A/B is very possible as long as you put in the effort. With that said, you'll learn a lot in this class.

I'm not sure if we got used to his question for finals, but it turned out a lot easier than I thought. So I think you should take his class. As long as you take the time to study, it is very VERY possible to get an A ;D

lectures were incredibly dry so i always ended up fiddling with my smartphone for 80 minutes every class. I never learned the material til the day before quizzes/tests, regardless crowell makes his class easy to succeed in (clicker and aris points, one droppable midterm) and I ended with a raw 95% with minimal effort.

Crowell cares about his students. His lectures tend to go into too much conceptual detail, obscuring the practical ideas that will be on the HW and tests. Midterm 1 was easy, Midterm 2 was ridiculously difficult; class average was around 50%. The final was alright. He curves the grade boundaries pretty generously, an A- was an 84% at end of term.

Despite his good intentions, he really is a terrible lecturer. His lecture slides are also confusing and unorganized, so they don't help much. So far we've only had 2 tests; the first one was pretty easy, but the second one was absolutely terrible. It was nothing like the clicker questions/homework. I wouldn't recommend taking his classes.

6B is a hard class. Crowell's got a pretty monotone voice so you might be tempted to fall asleep and rely on the book, but don't worry! He has a very generous curve and the tests aren't too bad. He's a really good guy; I saw him around campus before my 6C midterm with a different prof and he recognized me and said good luck. All around great guy.

Sapling is good practice and he gives practice midterms which are pretty helpful. You can tell he cares. The difficulty of the class is worth putting up his faults. Would recommend.

I got an A but no thanks to Crowell. I learned the material reading the textbook, but sometimes I got confused and wished I had a better professor that could clarify things in lecture. I love Crowell. He's so sweet and really cares for his students. Where else you can find someone who would hold a review session and stay until 1 in the morning? I don't get annoyed by his stutter like most people. I find it extremely rude and disrespectful to make fun of his stutter. Highly recommended his class if you willing to put in effort.

He reads off the slides for most of the time and his voice never fails in bringing you to sleep. I learned mostly by going over the slides by myself or read the textbook, however, still have to go to lecture for iclicker points. His tests are not that tough. I thought this class was pretty tough. He has an enormous amount of midterms that are 2 hours long each. There are 3 of them and around 25-30 multiple choice questions each that are pretty hard. He also has a bunch of sapling homework to do. As a teacher he definitely knows how to teach and knows his materials well. The final was not too difficult

Professor Crowell has a stutter but that doesn't prevent him from teaching. The thing that most people hate about his is that he adds concepts not in the chem textbook. I don't mind it honestly, cause they're kinda simple. His tests are hard and have to know what you're doing to pass. If science is your passion take him. If not, take someone else.

Overall, Professor Crowell was not the best chemistry teacher. The pros: Three midterms and he drops your lowest grade, Sapling homework is easy points, and review sessions before every test that are essential. The cons: his lectures are 70% irrelevant and midterms are based on this, midterms have concepts from later chapters, and he is boring.

Though Prof. Crowell is not the hottest professor in the CHEM 6 series, I do like his lectures. Professor Crowell is very helpful and willing to take questions and assist his students. Lectures require attendance for iClicker points. He is not the greatest lecturer, but all lecture slides are posted online so that is good. The exams are all MC and you can drop one MT. The class itself is very easy if you have previous chem experience.

By far the most boring prof on campus. He takes pictures of the images and charts in the book, then reads them to the class. Uses iClickers in class for free points to make students come to lecture else nobody would show up. Tests are all MC. Take Crowell if you can teach yourself Chemistry.

I just came back from Professor Crowell's review section for midterm 2 right now. He is SO nice. He has been talking for almost three hours from 9p.m to 11:45 p.m. We can tell his voice changed. But he didn't even stop to drink some water until he coughed. When you meet a professor like Professor Crowell, you know what is the spirit of science.

Crowell seems like a very good person, but he's a bad teacher. He spends a too much time going through confusing topics, which we don't need to know for the tests. I'd recommend Crowell's class for someone who has a good understanding of basic chem already, or who is really good at teaching themselves. Go to class for the easy clicker points.

He takes topics that can be simple yet manages to complicate them until you do not understand the little you understood to begin with. Lectures are tough to get through with a monotonous voice and going through the slides he prepares very slowly. Getting all clicker points is fairly easy. Take this class if you absolutely want to read the entire chem 6A text, which is extremely long. His lectures are not very helpful (imo), and are also required for iClicker points... The homework is due very soon every week, and he doesn't drop or even slightly adjust lowest quiz and exam scores. Worst of all, his curves aren't too great for B's.

That being said, you need to have a general understanding of chemistry prior to taking this class and you must be prepared to teach yourself chem by reading the textbook thoroughly.

Professor Crowell really cares for his students. Once i sent him an email regarding something i found confusing on the syllabus and he wrote back in an hour with 3 paragraphs explaining every misconceptions i had and moreover adviced me on my future courses. As for the course, you'd really have to study hard on your own! It is pretty doable.

Lectures are a little confusing, so expect to read the text book to do well. Tests are tough, but are definitely do-able. However, Crowell honestly cares about his students and their success. Always willing to answer questions and help, curves the entire class in order to let as many people pass as possible, and is very passionate about Chemistry.

His class is honestly not bad at all. The lectures are boring and confusing, but as long as you read the text book, you'll honestly be ok. The midterms are not that hard, but the final is a bit. Personally I think midterms are reflective of the practice tests. Just study, it's up to your habits when it comes to your grade.

He is a good professor and is patient for students. He would remain more time for easier stuff in the earlier chapters and accelerate the last 2 chapters before any exam. But his voice is not clear and his exams are a little trick.

His stutter and voice is pretty hard to understand but you'll get it eventually. I wouldn't count on learning much from him though. He is very unclear and he goes off on long tangents before telling you none of it mattered. I'd say just read the book do the homework and practice tests and learn on your own. I only went to class for clicker points.

He seems like he wants to teach you well but his lectures were boring and confusing. I was extremely good at chemistry and he confused me so much and I fell for the tricks he had on his exams. 8am exams on Saturday were killer and there were always ridiculous questions on information that he barely touched upon in class and was not related to HW.

Not the best lecturer; he stutters quite often and explain things in a confusingly boring monotone voice. However, he is a really nice guy. If you get the chance to talk to him you'll realize that he really cares about his students and want to help them. Lecture mandatory b/c clicker points. Exam are multiple choice. Professor Crowell is a great dedicated professor. He truly cares about his students. However, you need to read the book to get an A in the class. He holds review sessions before every tests. A lot of free clicker points.

I have to say that as a foreign student, his accent did give a hard time and his lecture is not very clear and really monotonous. He always want us to know deeper by providing lots of useless hard formulas. But he is really kind to provide useful office hours and review sections. Just spend some extra time on it and you will be fine.

If you love chem or have a solid chem background you'll love his classes bc they're so extra. His Chem 6A is like Honors Chem. The avg freshman should stay away from his class tho or ull probably get a B- or B+. His tests are HARD.

Crowell's class depends on if you read your textbook. If you do, and work on the practice problems he gives, you'll probably pass. I did not like his lectures at all as they focused on the minutia of the equations of chem while his test does not reflect that at all. Also, tolerating his lectures themselves are hard because he uses a monotone voice.

I would not take his class again. He is not a good lecturer. He uses clicker points, which is the only reason I kept going to his lectures, as they are a portion of the grade (not just extra credit). There are many opportunities for extra credit if you go to the discussion, however.

Prof. Crowell is a really good professor. He is a little boring but he could always make the content clear by lecture and lecture slides and his homework or tests are not difficult. You don't have to remember many things since many unnecessary things would be on equation sheet. If you follow his lectures, you would get a good grade.

Professor Crowell is a nice man, but not the most engaging lecturer. His lectures almost put me to sleep, but his slides contain a lot of information that is helpful for his exams. If you read the book, you should be able to do the homework and perform well on the exams. This class does not require much memorization because of his equation sheets.

Professor Crowell's a nice person. lectures aren't interesting. All the homework and quizzes are online. Lecture slides are pretty useful for midterms and final. Don't really need to read the textbook. Attend discussion sessions for extra credit. Stay until the end of classes cuz he likes to give iclicker questions at the end. He curves the grade.

I studied 16 hours for each midterm and still failed the class. Hard to understand during lecture and the exams were much different than the practice and homework. He's a nice person, but I work not recommend taking him as a professor

Really passionate, caring guy who tries to get students interested and wants students to pass. BUT, lectures are boring, has noticeable stutter, and uses material from later chapters and more advanced classes, which makes it confusing. Uses complex, conceptual ideas for tests, make SURE you understand concepts, practice exams are VERY helpful.

He is a really genuine teacher and tries to get you to understand the topic but he just spits out info at you. He does not show many examples in class and he requires you to buy a book but you really do not need to read for that class. He is absolutely adorable but does not make the class interesting at all, I fall asleep in every lecture.

Do everything in your power NOT to take this professor. Lectures are nothing like practice exams, practice exams are nothing like midterms. Haven't taken the final yet but have been studying for 2 weeks and bombed the practice final. Every new exam you take is brand new stuff you've never seen before. Professor makes the course pointlessly hard with practice exams that are not similar to the actual tests at all which there are too many of! Final is nothing like the practice final as well. Also makes false cheating accusations and is overly paranoid about academic integrity to the point of getting innocent people expelled pointlessly.

Professor Crowell is a very nice professor but his lectures do not necessarily help in preparation for the tests. Much learning is done through Sapling homework. Tests are similar to Spaling homework because of this and is all multiple choice.

I think he forgot that he was assigned to teach a chem 6A class. His powerpoint slides were pulled directly from his upper division classes. He tends to ramble about something for the whole lecture and then tells the class it isnt needed for the course but for future reference. Dont do it to yourself unless your willing to self study

I am completely lost in his lectures and his voice puts you asleep so easily. He rarely talks about basic concepts during class. His tests are the most frustrating I've ever had. We never even touched on bond order before chapter 9 and this concept is heavily tested for a chapter 5-8 test. I have no idea how the others are getting good grades.

His lectures are long, boring and heavy. He includes useless information in his lecture slides for 90 minutes and then tests us on concepts not discussed very thoroughly in class. He also uses iClickers which forces you to attend class. The homework workload is almost impossible if you're a STEM major, and he grades by only a few things.

Everyone saying this class and professor are horrible are clearly wrong. They probably don't read the textbook. I read and go to discussion, and in return, scored over a 100% on the first midterm. While the second midterm had a 50% class average, I scored an 87%. People aren't willing to put any time into his class.

Dr. Crowell is adorable! He have CLEAR grading criteria and to do list. He have exam reflection available for students. Exam is difficult, but he have practice exam although that's nothing to do with the real exam. Lots of chance for clicker points. If you want get an A, just follow what he want you to do. Professor Crowell put a lot of effort into the class, he was very available and cared a lot about our success. His lectures were mandatory and pretty dry, but the information was there and you could miss some and still get all the clicker points. The tests were difficult and there was a decent amount of homework, the curve was very generous though.

Should've failed this class seeing what I had as an overall score but he curved it and bless the lords. He is very caring and puts long hours outside of class willing to help students. Lectures might be hard to focus in but he's really doing his best to make sure you pass this class. Great man and great professor! Would take again!

Hes the nicest person ever & genuinely cares about our performance in his class, so much so that he holds review sessions on his own time. I was nervous at first by all these previous comments on RMF. Yet, I still decided to give him a try. It turned out that he was a very dry professor in term of lecturing. Homework and quizzes were challenging and lengthy. I mostly self-studied for the class and passed it with A+ since 72% was still an A for my class. The 2nd exam is the hardest.

The lectures were god awful. The homework is nothing like the exams and the first exam is meant to bring your grade up. I had one of the lowest grades in the class and he gave me a C- so I'm very appreciative. He cares about chemistry but the class is really hard if you are relying on the professor to teach. He doesn't teach much, seek out help!

I would not say his tests are hard but rather, as someone who struggles in chemistry already, he made the class even worse for me. His lectures were boring and he does not podcast. There are clicker points that make it mandatory for you to go as well. He's very nice and pushes deadlines back but his lectures are absolutely unbearable.

I found his class to be very clear and easy to follow. Each week he starts with a list of things for you to do that week such as start homework and read the chapter and if you actually do those things the class will be straight forward. He really cares about his students and even held three review sessions before the two midterms and final.

Crowell doesnt upload his lectures a week before the exam. Said the midterms will be open note / book for three weeks and then he makes it closed note / book three days before the exam. He just reads his slides, no actual teaching or going over example problems is done. Exams 60% of your grade

Had to take this class for credit, ended up having to teach myself basically everything so i could get a decent grade on the hws and tests. After switching online, all of his lectures (he only does asynchronous) are repeatedly posted anywhere from 3 days to a full week late. When they are posted they're vague/don't even make sense. dont take him

Professor Crowell is obviously very knowledgeable about chemistry, but he assumes all of his students are too. He often times deep dives into excessively complicated topics which confuses the topic of the lecture. He also likes to put many different concepts into each individual question for homework and quizzes which isn't bad, just very tedious.

There's lots of extra credit and the homework is simple. That being said it's hard to stay engaged during his lectures and it feels like he give a lot of extra information so it's hard for me to know what's important. If you typically understand chemistry I suggest him, but if you don't you might struggle on the exams like I did.

He's a smart guy but his lectures would jump ahead and make me stressed, it makes you feel behind. So I never watched the lectures the class was just self taught. He always has office hours and is really helpful if you ask. Overall good guy and clear grading criteria it's just his lectures were a bit stressful and I found myself learning more on yt

Unless you want to teach yourself the material, I would not recommend this professor. His recorded lectures were him reading (almost verbatim) what his slides said. It would've been much more useful if he went over problems or broke down the information so it's more organized and comprehensible.

Professor Crowell is not prepared or well suited for online teaching. He did not begin uploading lectures until week 2 of the quarter and never caught up, giving homework and quizzes the same week as finals. Hw takes > 5 hours a week. Exams not representative of quizzes or hw. Rescheduled every exam including the final bc of poor time management.

The easiest way to succeed in this class is to read the chapters on your own, and then go over his slides and videos if you are having difficulty with the homework. He also posts practice exams that are very similar to the actual exams. Solid choice if you are willing/like to do the work on your own.

Professor Crowell just isn't prepared for online class at all. He didn't start posting lectures until Week 2, and never posted any lectures on time. Seems like a very nice, knowledgeable guy, but just wasn't prepared for online instruction. He occasionally posted slides and recordings but they weren't much help (just read them verbatim, overcomplicated). Read the textbook, do the Sapling HW, and refer to his notes if you need more help. LOTS of self-teaching is needed. HW load is manageable.
