John Cummings is an excellent professor of literature.He combines my love for film and lit. all in one.I wish all of the English professors were as energetic and open as him. Its hard work, but it is work with a smile and never a dull moment.This is also the perfect class to take even if you are not a student of English like I am.He's the best!

The coolest teacher I have ever had he is so open and honest and he relates his lesson to what is going on in the world well like the interesting stuff. He is very open about your opinion and is very helpful. Although this class is fun you still learn alot and take what you learn to the next level. This class is very interesting highly recommended

BEST TEACHER EVER! No reserach paper! Lots of movies! Not boring! You know when you have one of those teachers that you will remember for the rest of your life? He is one of them. Your life will be changed for the better by taking his class.

The best English professor ever. The class is so interesting that you don't even care about having a 3-hour class on monday. You have a lot of movies and little reading resposes due every week and some quizes. You explore many faces of human nature and ultimately experience a new vision of the world, after that, who cares whether it is easy or no?

If you love films....& If you love sex.....& If you love films with sex.... THEN THIS IS YOUR CLASS. Great guy, one of those teachers that you will love.

Prtofessor John Cumming is the best teacher in the world. I just finished his class and I am ready to take his class over and over. You will learn alot and he is funny. Very nice man. I am just a little sad because he got a cancer in his kidney. Wish him to get well as soon as possible. We need him so much. All students love him.

The final was an ONE HOUR oral presentation from your groups. This is okay if you do not mind acting out a drama for one hour in class. Other than that really nice open minded teacher. He is great.

A real character, passionate about what he teaches.

Unfortunately, he was gone for awhile due to his surgery. However, we had a good teaching assistant, and the class overall was very enjoyable.

The professor radiated a sense of positive energy to the class and always kept things fun and interesting. Highly reccomended. They don't get much better than this.

Outstanding teacher! He truely loves what he does and will go out of his way for anyone. He can put anyone in a good mood and will leanr your name and make the class very personal. Very easy to relate with and the class is full of energy. He has a great knowledge of what he does and teaches in the most non conufusing way. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

He has the best classroom setup on campus. You will think that you have walked on board the USS Enterprise. You will sit in a comfortable seat, in front of a huge screen, with Butterfingers, and hear truths about democracy and racism, sexism and cold revenge-he takes you to the dark side and tells you to look--an organic education.

I took this class over the summer. It was the most interactive and exciting class I have ever taken. I loved the trial that we did, even though I was the lead defense and we lost for the first time in history. ; (

Great teacher and real world discussions! If you are expecting traditional World Lit, this is not for you. He talks politics, racism and sex. We read wonderful novels and watched interesting films, and participated in a mock trial. Although a little disjointed at times, he is passionate and kind. Treats students like adults. Highly recommend!

Great teacher and motivator! must be present during mock trials and must read the material assigned. but they are each meaningful and expand your knowledge of great writers in history. Tests weekly on material but gives fair chance of understanding material beforehand. OVERALL- GREAT PROFESSOR & HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

He is a well rounded and interesting teacher. I enjoyed his class. I'll be looking for him in future semesters. The novels we read create a different view of the society and world lit. Worth every penny!

wonderful professor. I understood and felt I cou;ld analyze the films just fine, but eve so he really brok it down for you at the end of it. Everything we did in there applied to you personally. love it. I REALLY RECOMMEND HIM!

Awesome teacher, but the group project is a nightmare. If I had known there was going to be a reenactment of a real trial with a group, I wouldn't have signed up. If you don't like group work, do not take, as the project is 55% of your grade.

Professor cummings is the greatest teacher. Bar none

He could widen and improve the intelligence and perspective of a goat if the college allowed admittance of farm animals. A professor who deserves his title. A jewel of the college. Listen, think, then participate in the class discussions. A leader in his field.

Group mock trial is requested from you. Be prepared and have everyone do their part. Dont know what this and alot of other things had to do with World Lit. Watched movies. Tests are multiple choice and are about anything off the wall that comes out of his mouth. Entertaining teacher. No book needed for poems to read, just get them off the internet.

Nice guy.. easy class. A couple of papers not too bad..watched about 10 movies. One big project. He is helpful and replies back to emails. Use of book was medium. would recommend for english classes

AWESOME GUY!It was the best English class I ever took. He was very funny and helpful, there was no class in which I didn't laugh. Tests were medium hard, 1 big project is the trial-was fun too. Best teacher/professor I've EVER had! Easy class. No research paper; a fun trial instead. Tests/Exams open book, open note. Movies and a lot of chit chat in class talking about whatever and a lot of fun. Recommend this professor to everyone!

this is the best teacher i have ever had and will have probably. he is very interesting person and amazing teacher. you will learn a lot maybe not about English and literature as much as life lessons and more useful knowledge. i took his engl Literature class and engl 223 the movie class. Highly Highly recommend to take his class :)

VERY interesting class. Prof is an all around cool dude. No book so attendance is mandatory as all of his test material is pulled from lectures and reading assignments. He lets you use notes so PRINT THE READINGS!! No research paper, trial re-enactment instead. Do not take this class if you're an English major.

Awesome Guy...A couple small papers are required, but you don't have to do a research paper. All you really have to do is be involved in the class discussions, and you will get an A.

Was a very cool guy but his off-subject rants got kinda annoying. pretty much just show up to class to watch movies and do the project at the end and you have an easy A

Professor Cummings reaches students using a different style of teaching. At first I was "surprised" but came to learn though his innovative style. He genuinely loves the students, and vice-versa. Show up to every class, make a slight effort, you get an A. Easy class, very enjoyable, he closes the generation gaps so well. No text, class size 150!

Professor Cummings was awesome. I was initially worried about taking this class because of the mock trial, but that day turned out to be the most exciting day so far of my college career. The class was great, the teacher was exceptional, and I am extemely grateful that I was able to experience it.

he was GREAT! i took his 4 week summer course & it was a breeze. he's super funny & tried to make class as entertaining as possible. attendance isnt mandatory but if you miss a day youll probably miss some information or a quiz. we mostly had to read poems & stories for homework which he doesnt ask many questions about, its more like a disscussion.

You've got to take this prof!!You wouldn't wanna miss a day of his class bcz he is sooo entertaining.Class is discussion based & he provides online links for assigned readings.NEVER a dull moment!He made this class super interesting & fun.Very different style of teaching from any prof u'll ever take.You'll c when u get there.Give em a shot! ;)

Best teacher I've ever had in my entire life! Easier then my pre school teacher at 5 years old! My class was only once a week and I missed like 4 classes and still got an A! Take him take him take him!!! Bombest teacher at CSN period! All we did was watch movies & 9/10 I just fell asleep! I reccomend him to people who have alot of hard classes :)

Great teacher, interesting with new perspective and creative style. Show up, participate, enjoy yourself, learn something and has a new approach to poetry. Dr. Cummings has an end of semester project that is great and the more creative the better for the whole class. He goes out of his way to make you successful and get a good grade!

Teach is great! he has a different but great teaching style. He made class interesting where you want to show up and I learned from the discussions. I would take him again, I wish more teachers were like him.

Amazing Professor. Class is easy and he goes into further detail which makes it even easier. Very understanding of Student struggles. He did not require a text for this class, just a $7 book at Barnes and noble. Great professor, Favorite class ever taken. Highly recommend especially if you have hard classes load

Such an entertaining and interesting professor! I'm only two weeks into the course, but it's my favorite one by far.

This is by far the most entertaining class I've ever had. Watched several movies & documentaries. 1 group film due at the end (so learn NOW with a MAC or PC how to edit a 5-10 min film). Just a few assignments & some he never asked us to turn in anyway. Learned a lot and a great class for the ENG requirement. TAKE HIS CLASS!

Had fun going to this class everyday! Very interesting to watch movies from the 50's, they were some actual good movies in my opinion. The professor was very fun and his discussions were very interesting and funny. Video, midterm, and easy final, turn in like one assignment and you're good! Funny and very cool! Was my favorite class this semester!!

Professor Cummings is extremely funny, and knows how to make everyone laugh. All we did was a short Midterm paper, Group Project, and an easy take home final. We had to make movies for the group project, but as long as you make him laugh he will give you an A.

Professor Cummings was a great teacher. Class is an easy A. He had us write papers but never returned them, however he graded them easily. You take a few test, watch some movies, and complete one poetry project.

Took him for summer school, and it was super easy. He goes over the readings in depth and prepares you for his quizzes, you see the same questions from the quiz on his tests, took two tests (easy midterm and final), and did an easy group poetry project (follow the outline he gives you and it pretty much does itself). Easy A and very fun class!

John is a chill layed back guy. Very friendly and smart man. He doesn't try to front and act like someone he's not to please the establishment. Take his class, I was in his Fall 2011 class and improved my mac skills while having fun at the same time. No tech movie making skills required. Just show effort and turn in a final project and your golden!

Easiest class that you're going to take at csn. An A is guaranteed as long as you show up. the Guy is cool and you just need to come to class, watch some movies and your done. We'll work with you to help you out as well. take his class.

BEST eng profssor Ive ever had in my life! My officially last eng class was this one and I would still love to just continue going to his class-very social and comprehensive. Honestly, I see him as more than just a prof, he's a person you can be good friends with. Had so much fun with the project he gave us-even gives you an A guarranteed.

Taking John's ENG232 for Summer and couldn't be happier! Great teacher, no condescending attitude and makes learning interesting. His relaxed approach to teaching is far superior than most professors and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone. I hope to take another class from him in the near future.

This is ts you want to take for your final English credits.its easy and actually enjoyable.the teacher us one of the coolest guys I've met since being at csn.our final project was to make a short film styled after 1950's films and it was a lot of fun to do. I would definitely take his class again with out hesitation.

John provides an easy going, laid back type of atmosphere to learn in. He's very intelligent and challenges his students in non-traditional ways. I can't recommend him highly enough!

This professor is probably the most laid back guy i've ever met. Watch 1950s movies and talks a little about them and sometimes has you turn in a sheet of paper at the end with your name on it and the name of the movie you watched that day. No assignments or tests just a group movie project due at the last week of the semester.And everyone gets A's

By far the best and most laid back professor I've ever had. Absolutely hilarious. Engages everyone in the class, but no pressure. Unfortunately he only teaches literature but is very knowledgeable... thoroughly answered all my questions in plain english.

If you don't take any other class at CSN, take Professor Cumming's Literature 223 class. The class is fun but the best part of this class is the teacher. Prof. Cummings is so easy going, kind, very funny and a great instructor! Take this class, you will be glad that you did!

SUPER EASY! very laid back. english turned into story time half the time. watched a lot videos. He gives gives quizzes but gives us the answers to them before turning it in. the final was 7 questions and one group project ; all i have to say, make sure you make it interesting. he gets bored rather quickly. otherwise, a funny class and an easy A! Great class with an even better teacher. Short paper with a group project at the end. He gives you plenty of time to complete everything and is very animated and interesting to listen to in class. THIS IS THE CLASS TO TAKE!

His class is very easy. Make sure you read the books. The books he chose are great reads. My fav. was "The color purple". Also, make sure you get creative when you work on the group project other wise you might get embarrassed.

Professor Cummings is an awesome teacher! He is a bit out of the box, but an absolute breeze as far as the actual class is concerned. As long as you show up to class and also do the video project at the end of the semester, you're good to go. Oh, and he takes attendance at the end so stick around for the whole class!

Laid back guy. maybe like 1 assignment. He'll communicate by email. group video project due as final exam. no textbook. all we do in class is watch 1950's films. also have a notebook entry which is watch 7, 1950 films of Marlon Brando and write a review and explain if you liked it and stuff. takes time but dont procrastinate.

Literally the easiest class, I believe our group turned in one assignment and midterm together and he cancelled all other essays and tests. There is only one group project at the end of the semester which is too easy and you watch movies all day, enjoy the easy A!

his teaching style expands your mind to things you didn't know before and it's a hands on class due to a film project that you do with a group. It was my favorite class. this is the only eng 223 class people should be taking.

This professor is amazing. I took him Fall of 2015 and loved it! He is hilarious! He has a unique personality that just makes you love coming to school. There is a lot of reading and I do recommend attending class because he'll mention things that'll be on the exam. Also, expect a group project. Nothing too hard, just do your part and you're solid.

John Cummings is hilarious and makes a three hour class fun. Class time is spent going over a few poems, and mostly watching movies. The midterm was open notes, and our final was to write a paragraph of our choice. This guy is blunt and says some crazy things. Keeps the class laughing. Easy A! Show up sometimes and read the poems. You can't fail

This will be one of the easiest classes you'll ever take at CSN. Alot of students take him because he's easy, but you can learn a thing or two about film. I really enjoyed making a short film instead of cramming for a final. He's an awesome teacher.

Really cool dude. He bs'd with me about Jurassic Park cause of my shirt after I handed in my final. Super laid back, and his assignments don't demand much. He does do group projects, which I was sure I'd hate, but they're not even bad. I will say though, if you use sources like Wikipedia, he'll be harsher on your presentation.

he is sooooo crazy, like next level crazy which is why he is such a great teacher. his class is easy and interesting i had a 3 hour long class and it didn't go by slow. most of the time he played movies from the 1950's. easy A i would take him.

Really fun class - show up to class for attendance and meeting with the group for your final paper - you watch movies and TV of the 1950s for the whole class and often get out early.

Amazing Professor !!!! Easy to get A.... He is very hilarious and very great grader. Take him if you don't want to do many paper works for class. And I bet you will be fine and get A even though you are ESL.

Took this class over the summer. Professor Cummins really cares about his students. Overall the class was easy and enjoyable. I loved all the films he showed us and I truly enjoyed the final group project which is what your final grade consist of. It was an hour long presentation which seemed impossible but it was fun and educational.

He explain all the literature and take care of the students. I love Hamlet and the way we study for this.

Super easy A and he is probably the funniest professor I've ever had. We only did one presentation the whole semester and that was our final grade. He's really lenient on grading it too.

All you pretty much do is watch old movies. We had two papers to write answering questions about movies. One big group project, you have to make a short film. Homework is to watch 6 movies and post a summary about it. Pretty easy class. Make sure to go to class because sometimes he takes roll or asks for a name on piece of paper for attendance.

It's definitely a boring class because we just watch films all the time, but there's no homework and only two written assignments due. An occasional pop quiz at the end of class which is easy. He honestly talks way to much, but otherwise a great teacher. In this class youll watch 4/5 movies, summarize 6 watch at home films, 1 assignment, create your own film, and a take home exam. It was actually a really cool class definitely recommend him!

No reading, no essays. If you want easy, take him. The one thing I got from this class was an appreciation for old movies. Work load consists of: 60% of your grade is a video project, the rest is between your final (which you are allowed to do in groups, only 6 questions), and 6 discussion posts analyzing movies you watch at home. Take him.

all you do is watch old movies ! there is one pop quiz on high noon journey so be there that day ! one MAJOR grade and thats a film 2-8 min long and it can be done in a group or solo and you have to present it to the class !! EASY A!! an amazing teacher.

Do. The. Readings. Chances are, if you take ENG 232 with Professor Cummings (he's very blunt), you will read The Handmaid's Tale and The Road. The great thing about this class is that Professor Cummings shows the film adaptation of "The Road" so the content isn't as dry. You may also watch a few critical episodes of THT during class.

No reading, you watch old movies in class. The grade was based on one group film project and the final exam. The final was only 5 questions.

His class is very easy! One group project and one final exam that is five questions! Watch movies everyday and have discussions! He is very funny and nice!

Professor Cummings is my favorite Professor so far. The man is hilarious and I looked forward to attending his classes. He is fair with his grading and lets you know exactly how to exceed in his class. He does not give vary many assignments, but every student has a solid grasp of the material through his lectures. I would highly highly recommend!
