He is a good awesome guy. And also pretty hot.
Hot? No. He is a very patient professor with a good sense of humor. I asked him endless questions and he never once became impatient like another professor (in another department) did. He obviously enjoys his profession..and it shows.
Sarcastic comments to ligitimate questions!! Doesn't have much respect for students! Wouldn't recommend him!
He's a good teacher, but give "pop-homework quizzes" So make sure you do your homework b/c u have to copy your answer out of your notebook. I really like how he uses his computer and a power point show for all of his lessons, its easy to d/l them off BlackBoard and follow along!
Nice guy. Homework quizes aren't very fair. If you missed even one problem you could be screwed.
hes a very decent guy. he'll answer your questions, and he is a patient person. he likes teaching, so that is good. and i like that he uses blackboard and all that.
helped me a lot. I didn't mind his sense of humor, he was different than other math profs - which was good. Notes were definitely helpful. You should show up to class and stay current with homework. Grading was fair, he takes the whole class into aco****, not set in his ways like other profs.
Do your homework, come to class, ask questions... You pass. Blow off homework or sit quiet - you will not do well. He tells it like it is and make math understandable. My questions were always cleared up either in class or after.
Funny, interested in what he does. He could tell I don't care for math, and went fairly easy on my work. DO THE HOMEWORK (though you won't want to) and you'll do well. And show your work on the tests and quizzes-don't argue with him, either.
not too bad. you get points for writing anything on ur test so leave nothing blank. quizzes once a week (can use notes) and 4 tests and a couple of projects. the thing is that he teachers and shows examples different than how he asks them on tests which can make it hard. I'd take him again..
NOT WHAT OTHER RATING MAKE OUT TO BE. Other comments say that he lets you use notes on quizes. NOPE, he doesn't. The whole class did poorly as a whole. Unclear about what will be on quizes and tests. Not as easy as ratings suggest, however not unbearable.
Math kinda sucks but it was bearable. Forget the other post about notes, he DOES let you use note on quizzes. Online notes are helpful and he works with you. The projects were different but okay. He answered my questions when I asked them. Given that the class was math, he was oaky to work with. I'd take another class with him.
Sweet!!!
He's a really nice guy, but he gives WAY too much homework, goes WAY too fast, and really doesn't know how to teach. He likes to make it seem fun by talking really loud and making funny noises, but it's just annoying. The worst part is that he gives the EASIEST examples in class, and the homework is really hard. Take a different professor.
i like the take-home quizzes. moves kinda fast but the online notes are helpful - can keep up with the lectures.
Great guy. Really helpful but class examples are really easy but test questions are extremely long and tests are written to long for the class. He goes through material really fast. Flys through examples so all you can do is copy down info. w/out being able to think about what you are doing. He is young and inexperianced as a teacher.
BAD BAD BAD...his examples are really easy, and the homework and tests are the opposite. Sometimes does not seem to be able to explain the questions that you find hard. Used to be a high school teacher...and little experience as a Prof...and it shows!
He's a horse**** teacher who has no idea what he is talking about. When he scratches his head, just walk out.
Dont take him! He goes through everything so fast and doesn't know how to teach. Tries to be funny with faces and shouts sometimes to be funny. Problems you go over in class are unlike anything done in the homework prob. and tests. Notes are not helpful at all as they are on problems way to easy compared to homework prob. Doesn't explain anything
He's a good guy and a good teacher. He's human, so that's cool. Be sure to study for his tests-- they're a good amount of difficult, but not enough to make people cry while taking them. He can get a bit crazy with his sayings, but he's good at breaking things down for people who ask questions.
So far so good. Online notes help a lot and the quiz so far was mult choice - easy! Takes time in class to answer questions, but I still can't find his friggin office. I get it so far.
Online notes definitely help. quizzes are just like homework problems. lets you knwo what is on the test the day before so show up for sure that day. kind of a math geek but makes it a little interesting.
He's not very understanding about missing any homework or quizzes(regardless of the reason).Never stays on track with the syllabus, so it's usually VERY unclear what is due or when tests and quizzes will be. Not very approachable, and never really tries to get the class involved. Not very good at answering questions, usually more confused by the end
I loved him as a teacher, he's hilarious and really easy to get along with. Go to class when you have a quiz...easily said and done because they do matter.
Sometimes it is hard to understand him, but if you pay attention, go to class, ask questions, and do your homework you will be just fine. I have yet to dread going to this class. It's not a bad math class.
Great professor. He is a little speedy going through the material, but is a great explainer. Reading the book helps with anything that isnt clear. Can use notes on quizzes. Tests can be tricky but if you show up for class and do the homework, you'll do fine. Also has projects due but can work in groups. Recommend him!
I think he is a great teacher. If you need help he is more than willing to give you a hand. He keeps class intresting. He's laid back and just likes to have a good time. Pay attention and you 'll do great!
says that he'll always give you some points for attempting a problem. NOT! ALL of my points would be docked for one small error on exams! my grade suffered BAD for this. would blow us off if we asked him about it. take someone else!!!!
He is kinda hard to understand. Goes into depth with problems but speeds through things. You don't have homework but the tests & quizzes aren't the easiest. He is somewhat helpful but speeds through that too. He talks really fast. If you're in class and following along, you should be fine.
His class is easy, hes helpful, and funny. I enjoyed having him as a teacher, hes not an old grump like other prof.'s. I would take him again
The exams have tough questions, ones not even covered in the book. Quizes are take home usually, so that's nice. He moves very fast, we were usually 2-3 chapters ahead of other classes. Do the homework and quizzes and you should do okay in the class. I would go to the MAC for help!
Funny, nice, and easy. He is very smart and knows his stuff. No homework but 4 or 5 projects. Do good on the projects and quizzes to get a good grade. Take him.
Great professor, tests and quizzes are easy - just study! Always lets you know what material will be on tests so you can fully prepare for them. Very helpful, will meet you outside of class if you need help. I hate math and i enjoyed this class! I am getting an A! Take this class with him, you will not regret it!
Quizes are take home-3-4 hrs. Not based on HW. Exams are worse - not HW or quizzes. He cares nothing about student learning. If you have a question he tells you to to to math lab. Wed classes r a waste -- he's recovering from his doctoral work in the cities. Why does he even bother?
he is very rude and he takes his stress out on the class. This class is very hard expect to not study cause he willfind some way to screw you over no matter what you do!
If you go to class everyday and take some notes, don't buy the textbook. There is probably a quiz every other day. He tends to go kinda fast and if you don't get something make sure you ask. Because if you ask later, he may not go over it again. Test are hard. I never got more then a C but I still got an A in the class.
This class is not easy make sure to read over your notes and do all the homework problems even though they arent graded. His tests should be easy but they are hard and complicated. It is hard to understand him he talks to fast and he is arrogent. This class should be atleast at 200 level.
He talks really fast but hes a really good teacher. You get to use notes on all of your quizzes and the final is a take home final. You never use the book unless you want to do the take home problems. Exams are harder. Pay attention but if you miss a class you'll catch up quickly. He doesn't take attendance. Get to drop lowest quiz. NIce teacher!
Class was a little bit hard but we are in college what do you expect. He is very nice and if you need help he will even help you outside of class. Do the assignments. Quizzes can be hard but if you study beforehand you should do fine.
This guy seems a little crazy. If you think math 100 sould be easy, think again if you have him for a professor. He is most definately not one of the nicest guys to go to for extra help. He doesn't curve and you DO NOT need to buy the text.
His class is a little tough, but he does a decent job of explaining things. He is a very nice guy and I would recommend him.
DO NOT buy the textbook! complete waste of money and the school will not buy it back. I recommend going to class, he explains things pretty well. Make sure to study for tests and ask about using a notecard. He is willing to help you outside of class, an A or B is pretty easy to achieve, though it is hard for a 100 class.
He is a very bad teacher he does not answer questions and he is very rude to you if you ask anything! do yourself a favor and take a different teacher, this class sucks
The dude is a riot so far. You get a week to do homework and have 3 tries at it. Drop a quiz and they are take home. Gives you powerpoint notes to follow along so you don't have to copy everything.
Terrible, I even with his powerpoints i could figure out basic math. He could not find a more complicated way of explaining things
Doesn't have a clue what he is talking about let alone teach it. Extremely hard homework and tests. Doesn't grade on a curve.
He is not a good professor when it comes to explaining the information, but he is pretty understanding. Online homework due near the end at getting 10 chances is nice. Take home quizzes are great. I recommend going to see a tutor to get help.
He doesn't always explain concepts that good but he has powerpoints to follow along and the homework is online and you get 10 attempts. Go to the MAC, get hw done, pay attention and you'll do fine!
professor czaplewski has no idea what he is talking about.whenever asked to clarify he just moves his hands around and says "lets move on". he's very unapproachable and pretty cold when you ask him questions. avoid if at all possible. especially larger class sizes
makes you use webassign. Is unclear and moves very fast. Inconvenient office hours. test are hard. only good thing is take home quizzes. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. it will lower your GPA
At the beginning of the year, I still liked math. Not anymore. Uses an online text and online homework site that always crashes. His way of answering your questions is mumbling, pacing, waving his arms, and assuming that fixed everything. I've been to every class and still don't have a clue. Save yourself the headache and take a different class.
At the beginning of the year I thought this class was going to be great, but then by about mid-term I didn't find his quirks so charming anymore. There is no textbook, all assignments are online, and they are a pain in the butt. Even the tutors couldn't help me sometimes. If you are looking to take an easier lower level class don't take this one!
Sometimes Czaplewski can make jokes that aren't very funny.. can be rude at times, but he actually turned out to be a decent teacher in the end. Take home quizzes usually every friday, so be there that day! final is easy also, able to do a review that you can use. online homework can be a pain, but just don't put it off and you can pull off an A.
WebAssign was hard to get used to. The mega class was not good but talking to him during office hours helped a lot. I like the notes and that you got a bunch of tries to do homework. Quizzes were all take home. He went over material for exam the day before and we had a review sheet ahead of time. Overall pretty decent
Be warned, hard for 100 class. Material similar to precalc from high school, but harder. He is a nice guy , responds to emails promptly, ended up giving tons of extra credit and dropping tons of points. Some problems even stumped tutors. USE THE MAC!! I got straight Ds for math in high school and ended up with an A, if i can, anybody can.
I sucked at math but it isn't too bad. i didn't like webassign at first, but it was good to know if i was doing the homework right or not. he gives you a week to do homework and you get to use notes on quizzes and notecard on tests. very helpful during office hours and will stop class if people aren't getting it.
The class is harder than it should be. However, Czaplewski is willing to spend an extra day or two or three to make sure we get it. You gotta do your homework on WebAssign, which is hard to get used to at first. He's open to answering everyone's questions in class or office so speak up. Notes on quizzes & exams helps also. He helped me understand.
This is class is awful. He bables and flies through everything while assuming everyone knows what he is talking about. Remember man, this is MATH 100 and were not mathematics profs!!! INSANE how hard this class is. DONT EVER TAKE THIS MAN UNLESS YOUR GOOD AT MATH
He's a really, really nice guy and also extremely helpful. Quite generous when it comes to scores. I feel bad for saying this but as a teacher he is not competent. Most times I had to go to the advising center to understand the assignments. Take him if you're really strong at Math, otherwise the class will be a pain in the *ss.
he is helpful. sometimes work in class. you always get at least a week to do homework. some assignments are too long but you can always ask for an extension. work all done on webassign. get to use notes on quizzes and tests. he answers all your questions if you ask them - either in class or during office hours. i was so-so at math, now i get it
This was my 2nd time taking this stupid class to get into Bus Admin. Take this guy over anyone else. he gives you ppt slides for notes, you get a note sheet on every test and you get easy points for doing your homework, plus you get a week to do it. He answers every ? anyone asks in class and I think he knows how to teach to those that don't get it
Czaplewski is a super boring leacher. He made us buy a $170 book and then told us we werent even going to use it. Oh and this was after the deadline for returning it. Homework is online. Yes he gives you a lot of time to finish HW, but each assignment can take you 1-2 hours. I suggest not taking this class if you dont have to. He's pretty lost.
I <3 Czaplewski! He has ppt for notes, get a test eqn sheet, and very helpful outside of class. Do your hw! One of the easiest classes I have ever taken think I came out of his class with 99.8%. He gives great partial credit. He still helps me even if Im not in his class. If you enjoy math he will like you...
Go to class and take notes on the sample problems. At times hard to follow in class. So go in during office hours very helpful and able to walk you through the problem and not make you feel stupid. Take him if your willing to go to class and put in the extra time to go into office hours with questions.
Czaplewski is awesome! A little weird at first but super nice. He really gets that not too many people want to be in Math 100, so he makes it pretty easy. The homework is all online, and the quizzes are short. Basically just go to class most of the time and take some notes. I really suck at math, so this was the perfect course
He doesn't know what he is doing. He won't give you any guidelines and when he tries to help he makes it up as he goes along.
Extremely nice and helpful. Very responsive to emails and will help until you understand the problem. He knows that none of us really enjoy math whatsoever and teaches us accordingly by making the class fun. If I had to take this class over again I would take this professor right away!
Not as tough as others say. We got 20 tries at all HW, quizzes were all mult choice, and exams were take home. Homework all done online so you know if you got it right. Project was a little weird at first but our group was awesome and it wasn't that bad. When you go to his office he really helps you out.
Much better than what I heard about other EDUC profs. He has actually taught in the classroom. Not too sure about grading yet but I like the stories he shares and how he treats us like people by listening and asking for input.
literally such an annoying professor. Ask him to clarify his directions to an assignment (which he NEVER does) and he acts like it's a horrible thing to ask. Sometimes he walks around the class rolling his head around and moving his hands. He does this when he isn't sure of your question and acts like a crazy person. classispointless!
There is no textbook, except for online. Everything is done online except the weekly quizzes and the test (which has been take-home!) He just goes through some examples in class to get a better understanding of things. He can be helpful if you ask him to be & put the effort in. There is a semester group project though so BE AWARE!!
He was a good teacher with enthusiasm but it was sometimes hard to understand and the weekly quizzes were very hard. Grade mainly consisted of quizzes, two tests, homework, lab hours, and project.
Once we got through the research stuff the class really got interesting. He tries to show us actual examples in class to use when we teach. Ask him for clarification and everything is pretty easy. Tests were take-home and plenty of time to do things. LOVED the elem field experience. Take Czaplewski.
Take this guy. I suck at math and I actually learned something. Homework is online and you get forever to work on it and can keep submitting it until you get 100%. He is super easy to talk to and when I went to his office, he goes out of his way to make sure I got it. He responds real quick to email also. Don't know how you can't get a good grade.
Online homework was a pain at first but I kinda like it. Czap tried to make it interesting evn though a lot in class didn't like math. He was always helpful when I asked questions. We got to use notes on tests and group quizzes.
Only HAVE to show up to class once a week. Can do a lot of the work outside of class. he doesn't make you come. Weekly quizzes. He is more than helpful explaining things in class - he wants everyone to understand. Treats us like adults.
Way better than other educ profs. He shows you activities that you can actually use. Talks about the research in the book some but most of time we are doing stuff and planning to teach at the elem schools. Tests are hard but they are take home so you got time to look stuff up. I think i may actually like math now.
3 week hard as heck summer session but Czaplewski pushed me to do better. He was very helpful and honestly cared about my success. Wish more professors were like him. He would answer every question that I had and didn't make me feel stupid for asking.
Great professor, he made math very easy for me. He was extremely helpful when I needed help and made sure I understood my problems before I left his office. Great guy.
This class wasn't hard, just need to keep up on the homework. The homework is easy to fall behind on because it is all online. 2 types of quizzes (online and in class). I thought he was a good professor and pretty fair!!
Czap was awesome. This class was hellahard but he answered every question I had. The class was individualized so there were no lectures. He found time to work with me every class period. Pretty easy to talk to during office hours. Answers emails pretty quick too. Take him.
I was scared of teaching math. Czaplewski made it enjoyable. He actually knows how to explain how to teach. Also way different than of educ profs because he has actually taught in a school. What a great idea! You get a ton of ideas to save for later when you actually get you own class. We got to go to W-K for practice - that was way cool. Funny guy
Awful professor, is never clear on guidelines, never helps. Will tell you he pulls answers out of 'thin air'. I would never recommend him.
AWful. Test and in-class quizzes are nothing like what the homework is. Most of the time he solved the problems in class wrong and the students corrected him. He does not know what he is doing.
The last two people must not have went to class. I have gone most of the time and actually like the class. I usually suck but the stuff we talk about makes sense. I like that we can redo homework online to get full credit. Tests are okay. We get to use notes and he tells us all the questions that are on it. Get with a good group and you will pass.
Helpful prof. Answers questions in class. Tried to have fun even tho class was at 8 am. easy to ask for help in office and email. like online hw. Get to work in groups for quizzes. The guy can be funny and knows his stuff.
Totally worth taking. Use notes on all tests. Final was multi choice. Get to do hw until you get 100% on it. Get in a good group cuz projects count. He helps in class and is awesome asking outside of class. Not a dull prof
He likes to joke around in class sometimes and is a very thorough, nice professor! Homework is completely online and due the day of the test. Tests are straightforward with a take-home portion of 25 questions and an in class portion of around 6 application questions.Group quizzes every Friday except test days. Understanding of illness and sports :)
One of the easiest classes ever. Having to clock in hours at the math center every week was a pain in the butt, but easy to get extra credit on. Like the class not so sure on the professor.
Best prof for this math. He made it fun for an 8:15 class. Didn't just talk from book - tried to relate to real math. Online quizzes weren't too bad. Group quizzes each week were helpful. U get unlimited attempt at all homework. Homework and quizzes are online. I went to talk to him in his office and he really helped me get it.
This guy explains absolutely nothing during his lectures. Incredibly unclear. My HS math teachers were all better than him. He tries to joke around with the class more than he does teach. Thankfully its an easy enough of a class that you will still be able to pass if you don't understand what hes talking about.. which you wont. Go to the MAC.
We work on word problems and actually doing the math rather than a bunch of stupid problems. Homework is all online and get to do it until it is right. Get retakes on quizzes and exams. Group quizzes are helpful. I don't mind this guy.
We work on computer assignments. He is there to answer all my questions. I like that he helps me figure it out and makes sure I know it before walking away. Doesn't make you feel stupid for not knowing how to do it. Don't know why other people don't like him.
He is such a funny guy and super helpful! My class was based mainly on just the Aleks browser and it was work at your own pace. But when you didn't understand something, Professor Czaplewski would always help you and wouldn't leave you to keep working on math until you understood the problem. Definitely recommend him!!
If you do the homework and group projects and lab hours you will pass. Easy to get a good grade. The tests are the super hard, all work problems and only around 5 questions worth 100 points. But you can do bad on the tests and still get a good grade. He does group quizzes so if you get a good table you are fine.
The class is easily passable. The professor offers more instruction in the lecture than one may think. However, utilize the tutors in the MAC, and turn in all homework on time. Heavy workload with the amount of assignments, but it's good practice. Class wasn't great but Nothing is bad enough to the point where I would recommend staying away.
Didn't want to take a math class but had to. He made it understandable. Most of stuff was online but he answered EVRY question I had and didn't make me feel dumb. Felt like he wanted me to learn and wasn't happy until I passed. There were a lot of people that didn't come to class and they are the ones that probably failed.
Class was stupid. Czaplewski help for sure. i was always asking him questions and he answered them all. there were some in class that didn't care and he knew it. those that cared passed. Taking him for precalc this semester. he can explain when you don't get it.
I was not a huge fan of him.. although he was funny and nice, I believe his example problems were nothing like the tests... I believe he made this class too difficult for a 100 level course.
Whenever I needed help, he was always there, even for questions that seemed silly. He's really sarcastic, which made class a lot more fun. Most of the time, we got done early, but attendance was a big part of the grade.
He is super funny and sarcastic which keeps class interesting. You get as many tries as you want to do the online homework. There are group quizzes every week that aren't hard. There are group projects that are easy too. The tests are average. If your ok with your grade at the end of the semester you don't need to take the final.
Get on his good side and you'll have a great semester. Answer questions in class.
This was a very easy class if you just show up and do your work for the 50 mins. No homework ever unless you want to pass early (If you complete all your homework, have participation points you and have a 80% you can take the final & pass early.) I never did homework & passed just fine but not as early as I could have. Very helpful and funny profes
Great professor. Explains well. Understands students. He challenges you. If you maintain hard work throughout the semester you will receive an A. Its super easy to get just a B. Great guy out of the classroom!
As long as you do the online homework on time you can get an easy A in this class. He is fun and incredibly laid back.
Super funny guy and very helpful-math isn't my best subject but he made it fun and understandable. Would highly recommend
I was worried about taking this math class. Czaplewski makes it easy to understand. I wish he would have been my teacher in high school because I wouldn't have sucked at math. Whenever someone asks him to explain - he does. He understands that math is not easy for everyone.
I took Czaplewski for finite math. He was super helpful! Funny guy that makes class fun. He is good at making things easier to understand. Take him!
I needed to get through math 50 to move on to 115 and he encouraged me to do it and was very helpful to get through the material on ALEKS. He then helped me slide into the next class within the same semester and still helps me when I don't understand something.
He is great. By far one of my favorite professors. He says at the beginning there will be "pop quizzes" but he actually tells you when they are. He is super funny and energetic and is willing to help whenever you need it.
He was really helpful and I loved this class. Homework and test grades were always posted super fast and I always knew how I was doing in the class. And if you went to the tutoring center you could get extra credit.
John Czaplewiski is my favorite teacher in Winona State, he can be hilarious and is a very friendly man. His Math 110 course is super easy if you just work on what he tells you. I'd say attendance is important but this does not mean you would have to come, just do your work. Lots of the class has to do with the online book and quizzes and tests.
John did a great job of explaining each section and will literally show you the questions that will be on the exam. A fair amount of quizzes but you get to use your notes on all of them plus use a full sheet of paper on exams. You have about a month to complete the homework assignments for that chapter. Highly recommend.
I just heard that they did not hire Czaplewski back for next year. Mistake by WSU - this guy was awesome and actually cared about whether we learned or not. He took time to make sure the explanations made sense. He shared his background from when he taught in high schools, something the other faculty has not done. I loved that dude.
Dr.v Czaplewski is amazing. I was very hesitant when I found out he was my professor because UWL had just hired him, but he is seriously awesome. He taught high school before and he uses that to help him better explain problems. He makes his expectations clear the beginning of the semester so just pay attention to them!
